I'm willing to bet one of my kidneys that the song is "Moon Represents My Heart", the Chinese anthem for the lgbtqia+ (also, the OST of Moonlight Chicken).
The colors and the framing in The On1y One came at me with a knife and yelled BITTERSWEET QUEER LOVE at me.
In the first shot Tian was framed outside of the yellow (Wang/Late Summer in Chinese symbolism). Paired with all that talk of poetry and separation and broken mirrors/glasses and the grey of winter and lost time its was already a lot.
Then the colors started screaming in the next scene you see.
Wang was there smiling, framed with his yellow, Tian’s blue and a new very welcomed addition the PINK of their love.
But Wang loses something important but doesn’t tell Tian about it. Tian being Tian our boy goes looking for it. IN A PINK TRASH CAN.
He then teases Wang that he understands why he didn’t want to go in the pink trash to get something as silly as (what he thinks is) “a lucky charm” It’s DIRTY and SILLY. All that framed by his blue with lil yellow stars. Wang doesn’t get the teasing/meaning right away because HE TOUGHT THEY WERE FRIENDS.
Tian then finds the “luck charm” in the pink trash but Wang hesitates to take it. Tian understands because it was in the pink trash of love IT’S DIRTY. (But you see there is already passionate red pointing to Wang’s yellow and the green the boys make together in that frame. It’s too late.)
So Wang takes what was in the pink trash.
It was not a “lucky charm” it was the green metro card that symbolizes Tian’s trust in him/care for him. Tucked in a yellow wallet.
Now that this little exchange happened people with a QUEER LENSE (like the teachers) wont see them the same. They only saw Tian before. But green AND pink are here now.(Note how the trash was blue before and they changed it to pink because it had to be pink ! I’m not clowning the editing it happens.)
In the end Tian is all pink in Wang’s mind and heart now.(Wang loves Tian’s neck AND HIS SCAR)
He tries to flee in his bed but the whole room is bathed in bisexual lightening.
But the red flashes of DIRTY queer trauma are also lurking in Tian’s mind.
The colors were screaming at me AND the show named dropped Jack Twist and Your name engraved herein. I’m hiding in a corner until the finale.
"the reuniting of a broken mirror," this is the true story of princess lechang of the southern dynasties. she was forced to part from her husband. before they separated, they broke a mirror and each took half. many years later, they reunited because of the mirror and spent the rest of their lives together. however, behind this beautiful story lies a deeper meaning. during the decades they couldn't see each other, they could only look at the mirror and long for the beautiful image of each other. after their reunion, in the mirror, i could no longer see your enchanting face like a fairy from before, only the desolate moonlight reflected by the passage of time. Can't believe they made me cry over a class transfer. It's literally just one floor difference, one staircase. They'll still be attending in the same school, have the same lunches, live in the same dorm room, and sleep in the same bunk bed.
