Just finished Tiamat's Wrath, it's one of my favorite books so far (spoilers ahead)
What I love so much about this one is that it de-centers Holden who I always found to be kinda boring and just stumbles into saving everyone even though overall he's kind of a bland basic dude. It makes space for Leader of Everything Naomi who is so wildly far from the 1 dimensional perfect gf of the first book. Her character development is so satisfying, especially starting in Nemesis Games. I love Leader of Everything Naomi.
Some of my favorite moments:
-"Her father scowled, then farted like the blare of a trumpet."
-Weekend at Bernie's Duarte scene when they try to do a scan of him and dress and pose him like a puppet, its so comical. Weekend at Bernie's Duarte is also Psychadelic Trip Duarte, who is also Psychedelic Trip Vaporizing Duarte? He's a total space cadet the entire time like he's not even mad he just blows cortazar's atoms apart like a dandelion.
-The very first mention of "Timothy." RISE OF AMOS YES
-Every conversation Amos has with Theresa. The way he speaks with her like a grown up,or at least with respect, is surprisingly touching. "Nutless" lol killed me.
-Wolverine Amos saves everyone. I was genuinely sad when I thought he was dead before.
-Everyone accepts that Amos has a freaky alien body now like oh hey Amos- freaky alien body now, huh? Okay cool nbd. Cool dog. Group hugs.

Greetings, All
So i’m fairly new to Tumblr, and despite skimming through the How-To section of this website, I’m still not entirely sure how it works, and what the ins and outs are, so bear with me.
I spend a lot of time thinking about The Expanse as a series. Mostly this is because i work at a job where I’m given a lot of autonomy and minimal supervision, so i can repeatedly listen to the last three books (the only three my cheap ass has opened his wallet up for so far), but also because its just So Damn Good.
The pacing, the dialogue, the themes explored. I love it all. Sure, I could do with a few less times when they explain how the ships or stellar objects are not to scale on a display, and that they wouldn’t be visible to the naked eye if they were, but other than that, I’d say I’ve got no complaints. It’s also refreshing to read a sci-fi series written by white guys who (so far as I know) haven’t done anything racist, fascist, or what have you. It’s a lot easier to enjoy something when there’s no guilt involved.
So yeah, I’ll mostly be talking about The Expanse. Some observations about the news and other things will be included as well, so if that isn’t your cup of tea, I’m genuinely sorry. As the name spacekozak suggests, Ukraine will probably feature prominently in that. Which, while I’m on the subject, if you have a few spare dollars, consider giving them to Razom (https://www.razomforukraine.org/donate/). They are a good organization doing good work, and your money would be greatly appreciated.
And that’s it for now I guess. Stay tuned.

I love how they all go until "WW(other character) D" mode at different points in the series, especially in Nemesis Games, Naomi like WWAD, WWBD, Amos both WWHD and WWND.
alex getting into an amos like stance, puffing out his chest, squaring up his shoulders.. bobbie right away realizing it… “and then, we go fuck some motherfuckers up” fodkdisjsjs incredible fantastic a family 😭💯👌🏻 tfw your older tough brother isn’t there so you gotta try pretend to be him!!
#lets go F some MFers up *permanently* was such a delightfully awkward amos impression#loved it so much#tiamats wrath#the expanse#I'm not sure if they all realize how much Alex hustles to keep them all on track emotionally

Cortazar is most definitely awful, but he's also entertaining (as long as you're not one of his victims). Everyone's favourite sociopathic professional vivisectionist ✌🏻

Tiamat's Wrath is the narrative equivalent of a fighter helping the person they just knocked out back up to their feet so they can knock them out again. Like you cannot tell me this will end well. Penultimate books ending with found family reunions are just Always tragedy setups. I'm saying this in desperate hope I'll be proven wrong, but not-so-secretly I really want Leviathan Falls to hurt me.

Everyone Needs to Read The Expanse
I am screaming at how many people are sleeping on The Expanse books! It’s one of my favorite sci-fi series of all time especially the final three books. Persepolis Rising, Tiamat’s Wrath, and Leviathan Falls are masterclass examples of existential sci-fi. The final 3 books alone have:
1. Accurate depictions of PTSD and how it effects people differently.
2. Some of the best cosmic horror I have ever read. It nails the fact that the center of cosmic horror is not only horror of the unknown but its effect on humanity
3. This one is going to sound weird but, the entire main cast of characters are in their 60′s. While it sounds boring it allows for more through exploration of the fear of death, coping with the loss of loved ones, the joy of watching a new generation grow, the fear of repeating the mistakes your predecessors did, what happens after the day is saved, and the cycle of violence that power generates.
4. Just the lore and story telling itself is amazing. Using the terms: “The Dreamer,” “The Romans,” and “The Goths” to explain the ring space and the gates helped add to the almost mythical nature of what killed the gate builders.
5. The characters!!! Oh my g-d I adore the character writing in the final 3 books. In the first 2/3rd of the series James S.A Corey had an issue with writing almost more like the writing of a journal which lead to the characters sometimes falling flat. However in the final 3 books he really comes into himself as a writer and fleshes out all of the characters he neglected in the first 6 books while introducing some of the best characters yet.
6. I said it in number 3 but it deserves to be said again: the trauma and cycle of grieving the books explore from the death of a loved one/ watching a loved one die of a terminal illness is some of the best I have ever read. As someone who watched a parent die from Alzheimer’s; I can say that the way James S.A. Corey explores how you grieve for someone who isn’t even dead yet, and the lashing out that occurs from the feeling is amazingly well written. It’s accurate to the feelings I myself experienced and felt like it was written by someone who watched a loved one of their own die from a terminal illness.
Anyway!!! Go read The Expanse books I am begging you. If you like sci-fi, in depth world building, or mystery I’m going to recommend this series to you.
Thanks for coming to my TedTalk

Just finished Tiamat's Wrath (The Expanse Book 8) and wow it is by far and away my favorite. The way the authors crafted this entire series is nothing short of stunning, and this novel really makes those forces collide well. Only a lot little upset that I'm on the last book, but I can't wait to see what it has in store!
#loved this book so much i had to blab about it#every once in a while one just HITS#and that is this one#the expanse#tiamat's wrath#personal

Im about half way through tiamat’s wrath and I’m screaming. Vague spoiler under the cut…
They made me think he died off screen and then I was so happy to have him back and then they killed me on screen and my delayed emotional processing ass is still trying to process this tragedy.
I’m simultaneously watching the tv series and I was just commenting to my partner how much I love his character and im dead
If they bring it back after the time jump I don’t think I could handle seeing it on screen on a screen
