something about Thule!Simon that I feel like we don't talk about enough (and I really hope gets brought up in canon) is that he's partially to blame for Thule existing at all. like he's not just this tragic passive figure who lost everyone he loves and is now doomed to roam forever alone, he's like. directly responsible for that happening. there is no Thule without Sebastian and there is Sebastian without Simon. because when he was presented with the choice between protecting the world or protecting Clary, he choose Clary. only in the end he doomed both the world and Clary, and everyone else he cared about.

also related to this is his last encountered with Janus, where he said something along the lines of "I'll kill you, Jace Herondale." but it's clearly not a threat he's ever followed through on. and the significance of the fact that all along killing Jace would have prevented everything. if Jace wasn't alive, he couldn't be the bargaining chip for Sebastian's life. if they had let the Clave kill Jace in order to kill Sebastian, there would have never been a war or an apocalyptic end of the world. Simon raised the angel Raziel in order to find a solution that would have saved Jace's life, and all that accomplished was him handing Clary a sword and her promptly getting killed for it. only after, when it's far far too late, is Simon willing to kill Jace. which again, he still didn't do because Janus is still alive, so maybe after everything Simon still can't do it. he still can't kill Jace Herondale.

When you realise Sebastian did turn the world into hell when he created Thule.

Everyone’s worst fears came to life. Julian looses his heart and Emma looses Julian and is unable to protect the blackthorn children. Alec takes magnus’ life away. Maryse was hurt by jace in the end. Isabelle made a blow that never delivered. Tavvy was taken away from his family by a demon. Simon, as Magnus said, is the last person still alive. Sebastian is alone. Livvy watched her entire family get murdered. Helen couldn’t contact her family again. Tessa is alone forever and living in a cave like the one mortmain put her in. Lily dies a prostitute’s death. Raphael sees what remained of another person he was supposed to protect. Luke failing to protect Jocelyn from another Morgenstern. Dru being left behind again. Jace having to hold Clary as she dies in his arms. Clary never making a difference.

SHADOWHUNTERS

Can u imagine a place were u are not allowed to read shadowhunters? I'm not talking about the non existence of the book or other books. There is of course place around the world when is almost impossible to find a book.

I'm talking about political figures denying to you your right to read books, the right to choose the ones you want to read.

Booktok says that books shouldn't be a political issue to have in mind when u vote. I'm not from USA, but I have seen that oratory in Internet from people from there.

If I'm right, shadowhunters is not banned like other books. For example The Handmaid tale, hunger games, Fahrenheit 451... and more. I have seen books banned for having lgbt in it.

Books with critical thinking that they don't want people to have. That havs been seen in Germany lot of years ago, but not too long ago.

If u read shadowhunters u can not say the books are not political, what are they then? Everything is political, specially the dark artificial shows the really dark side of the people and how some politics and ideas can make changes, bad changes in that case. And it shows a lot of behaviours we have seen in the past and WE ARE SEEING NOW.

Russia? Israel? Afghanistan? USA? Argentina? Italy? South Corea? North Corea? Some are more subtle than others but that doesn't mean it is not there. Those dangerous ideas.

Do u think what Valentine did was out of the blue? No, he started little and welcoming people to his Cult, and brainwashing them. With others they enter cause they have the same ideas as him. Then they expanded and created Chaos, and scare. There was a war but the ideas were still there. Sebastian was a kid of the war, and it was so much evil in him that he wanted to destroy the world his way. I know he has special characteristics but anyways.

The Cohort were brainwashed since kids by their parents or other people that still have Valentine ideas. And they tried to punish the Downworlders and killed them. The sentiment of hate is dangerous and scare people would follow the hateful ones.

War, War, War, and again War. All again repeated in this books. We had a glimpse of Thule in the Queen of Air and Darkness. Do u think that is fiction? It is, but it isn't at the same time.

Books have the power to get our critical thinking working.

Thule is Ukraine, Thule is the woman in Afghanistan, Thule is the conflict in Syria, Thule is the ruins of Germany when the war stopped and had to rebuilt, Thule is the spanish oppression by the dictator Franco until he died (sebastian).

Thule is everywhere around the world, all broken parts that are oppressed by Politics and Rich evil man who want to exploit and own the land. And the people are the one who recollect the pieces back.

Livvy not leaving Thule showed how important to her was to rebuilt the place she was part of. The resistance of it again.

Thule is the world, u just have to ask urself who is the evil where u are from. Who is the one that don't allow freedom and difference. And their only benefit is themselves and their radical and totalitary ideas.

one thing i noticed when reading Through Blood, Through Fire in GOTSM is how different Jace and Sebastian/Jonathan are despite being raised by the same parent. Although Valentine may have treated Jace a little differently than how he treated Sebastian, nonetheless, he was a horrible father to both of them.

Sebastian was a horrible father to Ash because his father was horrible. Jace, no doubt, would raise his child with love and gentleness because his father had been horrible.

This goes to show that everyone has a different way of dealing with trauma. Some may succumb to becoming like their abuser because they feel like others (in sebatian's case is his son) deserves to be treated the way he was treated. Like, "If I was treated horribly, then why should I not treat you horribly as well? Why should I be the one who only suffers abuse?". They would want to inflict the same hurt on others because doing so gives them a sense of satisfaction. Because it doesn't make them feel lonely that they had to suffer abuse alone. Other than that, it could be just Sebastian extracting revenge through abusing his son. It's like saying, "My father never raised me with love and kindness, so for revenge, I'm going to raise you without love and kidness too." Like, Sebastian literally said, "Why not whip him? My father did it to me."

Jace, on the other hand, learned from his abuse to become a better version of his "father." He knew how it felt to be hurt so he wouldn't wish or inflict that upon someone. He took his horrible upbringing and converted it to something he wished he was exposed to when he was younger, such as: love, kindness, security, gentleness, etc. He knew that he didn't like how he was treated, so he didn't see the reason why he would want to treat others the same way. He hated his father, and he didn't want to become him.

I just think that it was beautiful that Cassie got to show this in her writing. To tell people what abuse and your over all uprbringing can do a the person and how it literally affects them and how they want to mold themselves.

I have just had thoughts.

We know that Thule will obviously feature again in The Wicked Powers. CC has said that the location of the black volume of the dead, as well as what happened to thule!simon, will be addressed. What i just realized after rereading TDA for the tenth time is that almost all the clues given so far relate to Thule.

The last king of Faerie? In Thule the Unseelie King united the courts and is currently ruling over them with Erec as his heir. And Julian told Thule!Livvy his true name before leaving. And Thule!Liivvy is around seventeen or eighteen, which is the age Kit and Ty will be in TWP. I cant help but assume that Kit and Ty will encounter Thule!Livvy at some point because they're around the same age- maybe by Kit and Ty somehow ending up in Thule!Faerie?

Also, Thule!Mark is missing and we can assume he's with the Wild Hunt in Faerie, which does not have the blight as the mortal world in Thule, meaning there's a strong chance that he and Janus (due to his extra angel blood) are literally the only two candidates for still retaining their Shadowhunter powers, which may tie in to the third book's title- The Last Shadowhunter. And obviously the second book is related to the epilogue of the Lost Book of the White, and the events of the Black Volume of the Dead.

Besides, the problem that Dru goes to Faerie for at the start of TLKoF? I bet it's Jaime being missing. CC said everyone's looking for a solution to the problem, so either everyone at this point knows about the missing Jaime and can't trace him in Faerie (because Kieran would know where he is on Unseelie lands), or it's another demonic problem. I bet the separate problem Kit and Ty are having is related to Livvy's ghost.

Also, remember the dreams Clary had in the early mortal instruments? Of her seeing Jace and Sebastian circle each other, Jace with white wings and Sebastian with black wings? Well, that didn't happen, but there IS someone who looks like Sebastian and has black wings- Ash. And conversely there IS someone who looks like Jace, too- Kit. Who hasn't sprouted white wings yet, but has fey heritage just like Ash. They're technically related, even- the Seelie Queen is Kit's great great great whatever grandmother, so they even partly trace the same lineage. Somehow I think the prophetic dreams Clary had were not of Jace and Sebastian, but Kit and Ash.

All this to say i have no idea how I'm going to wait 1.5 more years for TLKoF. Istg I'll have finished a PhD by the time this series finally ends

Idk if anyone else picked up on this, but Ash really reminded me of Jace. Janus may be a shell of his old self but Jace’s sassiness runs too deep.

side note I really want to hold a book club of sorts in preparation for tlkof where anyone who wants to can reread all together as a group. which I'll work out exact details later (we have time lol) but I'm thinking now it could probably include the entire modern timeline, which I think is better than the condensed reading list I had floating around in my head. plus if it takes a year or whatever to get through everything then that's fine

actually. I think it will be kinda fun to have such a long hiatus. just think of the bonds that will be forged in these trenches. the drama free discussions. the in-depth dissections of every snippet. it's about the journey not the destination and as long as the books get published in the end I personally don't really care when they do.

The amount of angst this has the potential to cause and the parallels with TMI... I mean if Clary is kidnapped, Jace will finally understand first hand how everyone else felt when he missing in COLS and how Alec felt in COHF, the Clave will be in uproar, and if Clary willingly goes to infiltrate Janus and Sebastian, imagine the emotion. And if she has to be the one to kill him, after he was desperate to get her back, as I once saw someone (I don't remember who) suggest? Lord have mercy were in for it in TWP no matter what happens...

ok i just came up with this crazy Thule theory SO what if when Kit and Ty are there Thule!Livvy finds a way to Faerie and begs the Unseelie king for help or sorta blackmails him cuz she knows his name and he helps her fight Sebastian and the Endarkebed or smth BUT he dies fighting and Kit being the first Heir becomes the King of Faerie either by choice or he gets kidnapped and leaves Thule for Faerie AND THEN Kit and Ty run into Rosemary who is alive in Thule and Kit doesn’t know who she is but Rosemary just runs towards him thinking it’s Thule!Kit and then Kit finally gets a chance to get to know her
