The Jabberwock by John Tenniel
Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe; All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe.
"Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!"
He took his vorpal sword in hand: Long time the manxome foe he sought— So rested he by the Tumtum tree, And stood awhile in thought.
And as in uffish thought he stood, The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, Came whiffling through the tulgey wood, And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through The vorpal blade went snicker-snack! He left it dead, and with its head He went galumphing back.
"And hast thou slain the Jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boy! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!" He chortled in his joy.
'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe; All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe.

Idk why people can’t acknowledge that Alice is both a kind little girl and also a little girl that gets frustrated and thinks mean things about people she doesn’t like
Like I always see people dissing on Alices who are on the kinder side and while yes sometimes this comes with taking away her more negative side, that doesn’t mean that Alices who come off as kinder are inaccurate. Alice doesn’t hate Wonderland and even with people she doesn’t like, she’s still asking questions because she is still fascinated by Wonderland and how different it is
Idk it comes off as reductive to me like she can be both kind and angry those two things don’t contradict
She can both love Wonderland and learning about it as much as she can be frustrated with a lot of its denizens
She is a person!!! People are complex!!!! Let her be complex!!!!

Brad's outfit for when he goes through the looking glass
Tumblr media
--
Context: Brad's story is basically a retelling of Through The Looking Glass, which was years after Alice's adventures in Wonderland. Bradford (Alice's little brother) is left home alone during the early christmas season and after hearing Lewis Carroll's retelling of Through the Looking Glass, Bradford falls through the glass and into the looking glass dimension. So basically, Bradford is gonna have his own adventure

Sorry if this has already been asked, but I was wondering if you could clear this up: Are the Red Queen and the Queen of Hearts the same, like in the movies, or are they to seperate characters, like in the books?
They are separate entities in the original source material.
In Alice’s adventures in Wonderland; The Queen of hearts is met as this flat hotty mouth woman, acting like a spoiled child who knows only that if there’s a head, then it can be chopped off.
The Red Queen makes an appearance in the second book; Through the looking glass and what Alice found there. The Red Queen is more kinder as much of the denizens are, but she is more precise and strict. Elegant while a fast runner at the same time.
For this au however, I wanted to mix the two because it was a little easier for me, and I personally love elegant hot headed characters.

THROUGH A GLASS DARKLY (1961, Ingmar Bergman) x THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS... (1871, John Tenniel for Lewis Carroll). While Bergman's title is very close to Carroll's, it has an independent, Biblical origin—and yet the similarity of these sequences is striking, suggesting clear influence...

PERSONA (1966, Bergman) x THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS, & WHAT ALICE FOUND THERE (1871, Tenniel's original illustration for Carroll of Alice facing her reverse image & moving thru the mirror). This iconic image from PERSONA likewise seems to be clearly influenced by Carroll & Tenniel's ALICE works...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It seems fitting Carroll should inspire Bergman; both shared an interest in what lies beneath individual & social veneers, exploring it w/ elliptical, fantastical art. In the case of PERSONA, the exploration includes ALICE-esque touches of mirrors, mushrooms, madness, tea, & more...
Tumblr media
Carroll's works have cast a long cultural shadow, & it's common to see their influence in classic films—including, seemingly, in works by Hitchcock, Rivette, Polanski, & more. Below, echoes in Kubrick's THE SHINING (whose source book by King expressly references ALICE, fwiw).
Tumblr media
Given that TWIN PEAKS begins with rabbit references & ends with an enigmatic Alice, it's natural to impute to it an influence by Carroll's works. (But a further exploration of that topic will have to wait for another day.)
