I’ve been working on a hoodie inspired by stained glass. It’s not done, but I think it’s worth posting anyway!

Reading the comments and tags on a crochet post from last night. It makes me just wanna...guys. Gals. Nonbinary pals. Creature-friends. Please, if you're crocheting and you're having a difficult time, there are a TON of us on here, just on tumblr! Who have been doing thread/yarncraft for literal DECADES who would love LOVE LOVE LOVE to help you figure out what went wrong and how to fix it!
I AM ONE OF THEM. I SERIOUSLY AM ONE OF THEM. I don't know everything, I'm STILL learning new stitches 32 years in, but I am so very happy and willing to help you figure out what went wrong. I have been crocheting for 32 years. I have been knitting for 4. I taught myself to knit. My Mama'aw taught me how to crochet. I am not a snob about it, I want to help. I know for a fact that a lot of others on here do too. Please, blow up our ask boxes, message us, mention us in a post, ask us for help, we'll happily give it! There's no shame in not knowing, and heck, I know a lot of us have a TON of resources we could share. I have an entire youtube tutorial playlist that I can send to people that ranges from basic stitching and problem solving to some pretty advanced stuff, for both crochet AND knitting.
I WILL TRY TO TEACH YOU HOW TO CROCHET FROM SCRATCH IF YOU WANT ME TO.
I know I am not the ONLY ONE!
We want to share our threadcraft with others, not hoard it. We are dragons, but we are dragons of sharing, not secrets kept to ourselves. No matter your age or skill level, we want to help, we want to share, please, please just ask!

A chairde, I would like to present for your amusement & edification, An Argument Within My Brain. *************************************** Ahhh crap, I tore my seál. Tried to pick it up off the sofa & didn't realize the offspring was sitting on it. Ugggghhhh. Okay, nbd, I have the threadcrafting skills to repair this, and I'm cold without it, so let's hop right on that.
MATCH THREAD
Okay, which side, this bitch is two-toned.
… NO TONE. ONLY MATCH.
What about contrasting thread.
… ACCEPTABLE.
What color, we literally have every possible color of embroidery floss.
NO COLOR, ONLY FIX. MATCH THREAD.
sigh *Kill Task* *Limit Color Selection* *Pick Pretty. Result: Lavender* Here is your thread. Put it on a FINISHING NEEDLE, yes, that one right there, and mend the gorram seál.
... FINE

there's something about hand sewing that just really makes a thing special to me.
this isn't the fanciest or most polished project i've ever completed, nor is it the biggest or the most time-consuming, but making my own little sleep mask out of old clothes was incredibly satisfying. the unevenness to the stitches and the irregularities where i turned it inside out to finish the seams give it a life of its own. i've done this thing in a way that my great-grandmother would have done it, wasting nothing, no money spent, and i offered the energy of the work to the Norns. doing this connects me to countless people who came before me going back millennia as well as the gods i work with. the skill was passed down to me directly by someone in my birth family, echoing in my bones the hard work of every ancestor who ever took up needle and thread to keep their families warm. it is a sacred act, regardless of all the pain i remember in the learning of it.
i can't often do this kind of thing without getting shooting stabby pains through my hands these days, but today i managed to sacrifice a few hours of my time and a bit of my energy to make something the old-fashioned way while i still can. i'm thankful for the opportunity. it wouldn't have been any less great or awe-inspiring if i'd used a machine, i'm glad there are more accessible ways to do it, but i'm also glad to have had this experience once more.
#don't mind me i'm just having big-ass feelings about humanity and love and creation nbd#i'm like this with crochet too#my birth mom was shitty but the way my grandmothers shone through her anyway whether she liked it or not is powerful#so i'm glad i took this power with me in spite of her shittiness and i will claim it proudly as part of my human heritage#my offerings to the Sisters of Wyrd usually take the form of some kind of household labor but threadcraft seems to be the favorite#both for them and for me

I'm really proud of this piece, because it only comes together into a coherent scene like this from a distance - up close it's really hard to make sense of and involved a lot of abstract-seeming shapes and colors. But it all works together!!!

wild chisaki headcanon: he gets really into sewing and threadcraft because fabric is super hard to overhaul
like--a human body? yeah, okay, super complex, but the main challenge is its complexity--every cell in a body is connected via chemical bonds. (blood is the exception, which is why ppl who are overhauled would tend to lose blood and get dehydrated.) but fabric? fabric?? doesn't matter HOW simple the chemical structure of the threads, the threads are held together by tension and weave, not chemical bonds! fabric may act as a single thing but to overhaul it's ten billion things folding in on each other! you'd have to overhaul each individual thread to fix a tear! and in the end it's really just faster/simpler/easier to sew or weave something the traditional way than to overhaul it. like he can overhaul it if he's desperate but he would rather not
