Missed Hints
King Thorin Oakenshield x Female Reader
Content & Warnings (per the warnings MDNI): fluff, light angst, humor, pregnancy, suggestive themes, fade to black, established relationship
Word Count: 1.8k
With the pregnancy confirmed, you decide to drop little hints until Thorin makes the connections.
A/N: for @protosslady
ao3 // taglist // main masterlist
âYouâre pregnant, your majesty.â
Those two little words are enough to make time freeze. You are cold, a bit hesitant, and completely unbelieving of what youâre hearing.
âAre you sure?â you ask slowly, needing to know if youâve heard her correctly.
The midwife, Lena, smiles broadly. âAs sure as the sun rises in the morning. Iâve been doing this for close to thirty summers now. Rarely am I ever wrong.â
Lenaâs assistant, Petal, matches Lenaâs smile with one of her own. It is radiant and sunny, a stark difference from your sudden anxiousness. âThis is wonderful news,â she exclaims. âKing Thorin will be so pleased.â
âIndeed,â agrees Lena. âAnd so will the people when itâs formally announced.â
Both women sigh at the same time, but you are not nearly as excited as they are.
You and Thorin did try for a child many times in the beginning of your marriage. It was enthusiasticâand constantâbut nothing ever came of it. While it bothered you, Thorin never seemed to care. He told you that all he wanted was you and that anything else was a bonus.
That is still true. Thorin loves you.
But Thorin is being pulled in a different direction. Erebor needs attention, and Thorin throws himself into service attempting to tackle every obstacle and difficulty on his own. Most nights, he comes to bed lateâusually when youâre already asleep. When you wake, he is usually gone, off to take care of his abundant duties. They are piling up, becoming a burden. Thorin does too much, and while you admire him for his dedication, you miss him.
To know that youâre pregnant is a surprise. Itâs not that you and Thorin havenât been intimate, itâs just that it hasnât been nearly as frequent as in the past. While Thorin is gone, you have your own duties and responsibilities. When the two of you do have quiet time together, intimacy is brief but passionate and almost always followed by the two of you falling asleep in each otherâs arms.
âHow far along?â you ask, trying to place exactly when it might have taken.
When your cycle never came, you didnât think much of it. That happens sometimes. But then didnât occur during the next expected timeframe. With its absence came irritability and random bouts of sudden crying you couldnât explain. Certain foods smelt odd, and while you werenât emptying the contents of your stomach, constant nausea made it difficult to complete daily tasks. You knew then that something was different. And now the midwife has confirmed it.
But even with an answer, youâre not sure how you feel.
âIâd place you at about ten weeks. Perhaps eleven,â answers Lena with a slight shrug of her shoulders.
âThat far?â you squeak, wincing immediately with how upset you sound.
Lena and Petalâs smiles start to diminish. Their enthusiasm melts away, replaced with furrowed brows and soft lines of concern.
âIs everything all right? You look a bit faint?â Lena places her hand on your shoulder.
âYes,â you reply, though it sounds like youâre gasping for air. âSurprised is all.â
Their smiles return but itâs subdued.
This is supposed to be a happy occasion. A child means an heir, and it also gives the people hope for the future. Much of Erebor is still in pieces from Smaugâs habitation. That doesnât even begin to include all the damage and death from the battle. Dale, which was once abandoned and forgotten, is starting to see life again as well. The races of Men are returning to it, hoping to rekindle its long-extinguished flame.
A royal child is a symbol of hope. Itâs a moment of celebration for everyone.
âI think a bit of rest for the remainder of the day will do you some good,â says Lena softly. âWe will prepare some ointments that you can use to relieve any aches or pains. Bloating is likely, and as the body makes room for the little one, youâll have some discomfort.â Lena taps her bottom lip and then turns to Petal. âWeâll need to prepare some liquid supplements to take with meals.â
âOf course,â nods Petal. She begins packing up their supplies.
Lena squeezes your shoulder before letting go. âIâll come check on you in a few days. Bring a few things with me. Weâll talk more then, preferably with the father present.â
âYes,â you reply, absently rubbing your belly. âThat would be best.â
The two women bow and depart quickly, leaving you alone in the royal bedchambers. The room is quiet and your breathing sounds too loud in such a large space. With hands clasped, you twist them over and over again in agitation, needing to move but unsure of how to quell the anxiousness. Itâs stubborn like the deep roots of a tree that refuse to give up the dirt.
How are you to tell Thorin? How do you approach this when you rarely see him. Itâs just one more thing to burden him with. Perhaps, if you dropped a few hints? Covertly toss the pregnancy in his direction and see if he picks it up?
You know deep in your gut that you shouldnât worry over this. Thorin will be happy. He will be.
You spend the rest of the day as Lena instructs. Reclining, resting, and reading. Thorin is supposed to return tonight for evening meal. Whenever he promises an early arrival, Thorin means it. Rarely does he make promises he cannot keep.
As dinner is brought in, and the table is set, Thorin walks through the door. There is a bit of soot on his cheek like heâs been in the mines, and his cheeks are slightly flushed. When he notices you, he beams, and there is so much love there that you simply want to melt into a puddle on the floor.
âMy love,â he says, moving toward you swiftly. The embrace nearly sweeps you off your feet. He plants a kiss on your forehead and draws back.
âYouâre filthy,â you laugh, looking him over. Thorin has been in the mines.
Thorin shrugs sheepishly. âI had to help dig. Structural issues.â
âWash your hands at least,â you playfully tease.
âNot interested in eating a bit of dirt?â he asks with a laugh.
âGo,â you giggle, pushing away from him.
Thorin disappears and you take a seat at the table. He reappears a few minutes later, face and hands clean. The clothes he wore before are also gone, replaced with simple, fresh attire. He takes a seat next to you, gaze darting over the spread.
âIâm starving,â you begin because itâs true even though youâve been consistently snacking all day. âItâs like Iâm eating for two.â
First hint dropped.
Thorin laughs, and the sound is sweet like honey cake. âI promise, love. You couldnât eat for me. My appetite is insatiable.â When Thorin says insatiable, he pointedly glances at you with a heated stare.
You perfectly understand his meaning.
You attempt a different angle. âIâve also been having the oddest cravings,â you say, starting to load your plate.
âWhat do you mean?â asks Thorin before he pops a chunk of bread into his mouth.
âDifferent foods. Things Iâd never eat together otherwise.â It is common knowledge that pregnant women will often crave highly specific foods and food combinations.
But Thorin doesnât appear to pick up on the hint. He frowns, then shrugs, continuing to eat without making a comment.
Sighing, you pick up one the freshly made rolls. âI think these buns need a bit more time in the oven.â You stare hard at Thorin, mentally sending message after message. âWhat do you think?â
Thorin glances up at you then down at his own plate that has five of them. âI think theyâre perfect but if youâd like them more done, Iâll let the kitchen know in the morning.â
âThorin,â you say flatly.
âYes, my love?â His head slightly tilts, and his gaze becomes pointed. Heâs starting to pick up on your agitation. You donât mean to be cross, but you were hoping that heâd figure it out so you wouldnât have to tell him outright.
Setting the roll down on your plate, you promptly divert the conversation to a different hint. âWeâve never talked about where weâd put the nursery.â
Thorinâs brow rises toward his hairline. âI didnât think you wanted to discuss that until we crossed that hurdle?â
Does he hear himself? Does he understand the context of whatâs coming out of his mouth?
âYouâre right, Thorin. I didnât want to discuss it until we needed to.â You repeat his words back to him, slightly leaning toward him as you speak to emphasize the point.
Still, it brushes right over his head.
âSome of the advisory council members have brought up financial concerns. Rebuilding Erebor is important but the needs of the people are pressing. Food. Proper housing.â Thorin begins slicing into the chunk of roast on his plate.
Maybe you are going to have to say it outright.
Licking your lips, you ignore Thorinâs change in conversation. âI did receive a few inquiries about baby clothes. Offers to knit a few items,â you shrug.
âThatâs kind of them,â says Thorin slowly. âBut whyââ he pauses, âyouâre notâ"
Thorinâs features suddenly shift, becoming almost unreadable. His jovial expression is gone, replaced with a stern consideration.
Are you going to have to shout it at the top of your lungs?
Thorinâs lips part. Promptly shuts. Opens again. âAre youâŠâ he begins but does not finish.
You start to nod, urging him on.
Finally, like light igniting in the dark, Thorinâs face transforms into one of shock, then pure joy.
âTruly?â
âFound out just this morning.â
Thorin abruptly stands, pushing himself and his chair away from the table. He is moving toward you, grasping your hands, bringing them to his mouth to kiss your fingers.
âWhy not say anything?â he asks.
âI did,â you laugh. âMany times.â
Thorin momentarily frowns before his mouth turns up into a soft smile. âClever.â
âYouâve been busy and I was unsure of how to tell you.â
Thorinâs thumbs rub little circles over your knuckles. âYou can always tell me anything. Whatever is happening. Whatever is on your mind. I wish to hear it.â He kisses the tops of your hands. âEspecially something like this.â
âAre you happy?â you ask, voice cracking at the end.
âHappiest Iâve ever been.â
Thorin pulls you up from your chair, his large, muscled arm sliding behind your waist. He drags you to him, his eyelids lowering seductively, all gentleness leaving him to be replaced with desire.
âAre you up for a bit of celebrating?â he asks.
âWhat kind of celebrating?â
âThe kind that landed us here.â
âThorin,â you gasp, lightly slapping his chest. He snatches your wrist, kisses the pulse point there.
âThe food can wait,â and his voice ends on a soft growl.
âThorin,â you repeat, this time with a rasp to your tone.
He seizes it, draws you even closer. âThe food can wait?â
You nod. âIt can wait.â

Braiding Lessons ~ Kili x Reader
A/N: Omg Kili request!!! I love him and I am such a sucker for this plot!! so I hope you enjoy it as much as I do omg!! Also funfact but I almost deleted everything that I wrote during my roadtrip cause I was so unsatisfied with it ;-; Which is probably why it took me so long to actually publish it yikes
âą ËËË Warnings: Fluff àżàŸ âą ËËË Words: 1.0k àżàŸ âą ËËË Request: Yes (Thank you <33) àżàŸ âą ËËËAmrĂąlimĂ© ~ My Love àżàŸ
Summary: You always knew dwarves had various beautiful braids, but how come Kili doesn't? So one night you decide to change that and help him out.
You tilted your head to the side, as you let your eyes skim over the various dwarves, whom you were accompanying on their journey. Being the only human, surrounded by one hobbit and several dwarves definitely let you notice a few differences about their culture to your own. For example, they could eat almost double their size almost as if they have two stomachs. They also tend to not care much about their appearance. Except of course their beards and hair in general. They take care of it almost as if their life depended on it. One detail that definitely stood out to you were the different braids that decorated each of them. You remember once staring at Fili, while he undid his small beard braids just to redo them.
âHow come dwarves always have braids in their hair?â You once asked him. He smiled at you and continued weaving his fingers through his hair. âBraids are very important to us dwarves. Which is why we rarely let others touch our hair.â
Ever since that day you have noticed the intriguing designs and ways each of the dwarves intertwined their strands. Except for one. Kili was the only dwarf who seemed to be lacking any kind of braid and you have been wondering why that is. You also once asked Fili about it but he wouldnât answer you. Maybe he doesnât know how to braid? And he is too embarrassed to ask others for help? Observing Kili, who was laughing along his brother to some jokes, you quickly let that thought settle in your mind. He doesnât know how to braid and you were determined to change that.
So later that afternoon you bribed Fili to change his night shift with yours (which cost you a few of your travel snacks), in order to spend some time with Kili. You wanted to teach him how to braid and due to the fact that it is quite a sensitive topic to dwarves you wanted to make sure that nobody else would notice the two of you. So as soon as the sun set and the snores of your companions filled your ears, you made your way to Kili. He was perched upon a log which was behind the campfire that slowly burned down. His hands were carefully crafting something delicate, which you didnât quite see in the dark. âWhat are you working on?â You asked him, taking a seat beside him. His gaze swerved from the item between his fingers to you. A smile graced his lips.
âItâs a surprise.â He quickly put the item into a small pouch that was secured to his pants. âI thought Fili was supposed to be my night-watch-partner?â âHe was but I wanted to switch with him.â A smirk formed on his lips, before he put his arm around your shoulder, pulling you closer. âWell, in that case I will make sure that this will be the best night of your life.â Blushing at the double meaning behind his words, you tried to separate your body from his. Of course, not because you didnât enjoy him being so close to you, but because you were in desperate need of some cold air to cool you down and sort through your thoughts.
âI just wanted to ask you if I could braid your hair.â A dumbfounded expression accompanied by a gentle blush fell over his face. âI know you probably were just embarrassed to ask any of the others for help when it comes to braiding your hair and knowing that you donât know how to I just-â His laugh interrupted your rambling. âYou think I canât braid my hair?â You nod. â(Y/N), that is one thing we dwarves get born with. No dwarf in this world knows how not to braid hair.â âBut why do you never braid yours? Fili told me they were incredibly sacred and important in your culture.â A blush dusted his cheeks as he stared into the campfire.
âSimple. Nobody has asked to braid my hair before.â Your hand moved to his and gave him a reassuring squeeze. âBut I just asked to braid your hair. So please, let me take care of you.â He smiled at you and moved one leg over the log so his whole body was facing yours. You let your fingers comb through his soft hair a few times, before taking a strand and dividing it into three sections. Weaving your fingers through the wafts, you made sure to be gentle while also ensuring that there wonât be any bumps or strands sticking out of your small braid. After you have reached the end of his hair, you took out one of your slim leather straps and tied it at the end. Your gaze wandered from the braid to Kilis eyes and you realized how close the two of you have been this whole time. âThank you AmrĂąlimĂ©. You have no idea how much this means to me.â You let your gaze wander to your hands in your lap while a shy smile graced your face. âOf course. I am glad you like it.â Kili put his finger under your chin, forcing you to look at him. A bright smile framed his face. âNow it is your turn.â
The next morning the company as well as you quickly packed up their belongings to get back on their journey. While talking with Balin about some of the dwarvens history, you suddenly heard a gasp from behind you. âYou never told me about this Kili!â Fili held up a braid between them both. âWhen did this happen?â âLast night while you-â âWhat is going on back there?â Thorin asked, slowly approaching the princes. âKili finally got his braid! Probably by someone he seems enamoured with.â Fili teases, while letting go of his brotherâs hair. A blush dusted Kilis cheeks, as well as your own as the words settled in.
âWas about time they tied the knot.â Dwalin let out a boisterous laugh at Balins words. Tilting your head to the side, you moved your attention to Kili. âWhat does he mean by that?â â(Y/N) doesnât even know? You didnât even explain it?â Fili asked, flabbergasted at the newfound information. âI hadnât had the time yet.â Kili turned towards you and grabbed your hand, intertwining your fingers. âBut I will explain it to you when the time is right.â His radiant smile was enough reassurance for you. You will wait, until he is ready to explain the meaning behind the dwarvish braiding custom.

Imagine them telling you they love you
Thorin, FĂli, KĂli, Bilbo's reactions when they tell they love you
A/N: My imagines become more and more ficlets and we now have 4k words of it⊠Make you comfortable, and enjoy!
[ đ Main Imagines Masterlist đ ]
FĂli
On a cold winter evening under the lonely mountain, two princes are talking over an ale, one of them in a better mood than the other. âI should never have done that,â you hear FĂli sighs, his face hidden in his arms crossed on a table. âItâs too late, brother,â KĂli laughs as he drinks his ale.
It has been a while since youâre friends in this pub. There is only one pub since the rebuilding of Erebor was still ongoing. The place is busy, and princes or not, KĂli and FĂli drink here every Friday night.Â
When you entered, you wanted to surprise them and you were waiting for the right moment to join them, but you didnât expect they would talk about you. Especially about this subjectâŠ
âYou were drunk, both of you,â KĂli resumes. FĂli gets his head off his arms and sighs again âDrunk or not, you donât sleep like that with yourâŠâ. Someone shouts in the pub while he finishes his sentence. âAs if you regret it,â KĂli laughs. âStop that KĂli!â FĂli shouts seriously.
They should change the subject now, right? But, should you really join them after that? Then you hear âThere are things I regret in my life, but this is the worst and youââ. A group of happy dwarves shout a new time their happiness while you freeze. KĂli is looking at you, as surprised as happy to see you. He speaks to his brother while you already start to run away. You don't see FĂli hit the table with his fist even less standing up so suddenly that he spills his beer all over his brother.
You literally run away until you're almost home. In two streets, you will be in the cosy place Thorin gave you under his mountain. Your steps slow down as you realise how stupid you are to think everything could be the same after Ă that. You suspected that FĂli avoided you since you spent a night together, and you have your answer. It's clearly unnecessary to talk more to him. It was a mistake. Period.Â
Maybe it could be different if you could have talked the next morning. If only he wasnât a prince, he wouldnât have early duties every morning. Especially when he was in your bed! Who sends a guard to fetch someone in the bed of his⊠his what anyway? Youâre just his friend. Well, âwasâ now.
When youâre almost arrived at your place, you hear your name shouted from afar. You could recognise this voice everywhere, so you quickly hide in the first street you see. Except that before being a prince, FĂli was a warrior, and you canât escape a warrior that easily⊠Even though you take another way to go home, someone grabs your wrist when you arrive at your front door. Of course, itâs FĂli. And not a happy FĂli. Everyone whoâs walking in the street is looking at you since everyone knows Ereborâs heir.
âListen FĂli. I donât want a drama. Like you said, letâs forget. And if you don't want to see me again, well, I understand,â you say as you try to get back your wrist. âNo. We need to talk. Let's inside,â he simply says as he opens your front door and leads you inside.
After lighting a few candles, you put the last one on the table. You barely turn toward FĂli that he is already in front of you, not leaving you the time to say anything. He clears his voice and you notice how he is nervous. You never see him like that. Not even when he speaks to Ereborâs people officially. âFirst, Iâm sorry I didnât come earlier to talk to you since that night. I had a lot to do but the main reason is I was ashamed.â You repeat the last word he said, unstable to keep your surprise. Yet, he continues, his eyes looking at the candle, âI should never sleep with you. We were drunk.â âYes, we were drunk, but not enough not to know what we were doing,â you say seriously. His eyes turn now to yours, âYes, maybe, but I should court you first.â He runs a hand on his face as if it could help him to breathe better while your heart starts to beat stronger. When his eyes come back to you, your heart stops beating. Were his eyes always so mesmerising?
âWe, Dwarves, always court their One first. I know Men do differently, but I shouldnât touch you like that. But your dress⊠Mahal, you were stunning in this dress that night. I behaved like an idiot⊠Mahal, I really do blame myself,â he pauses for a breath. A murmur escapes your lips, âtheir One?â. Something changes in his eyes. You swear they looked at your lips before coming back to your eyes. âAm I your One?â you eventually ask in a quiet tone. âYes, you are. I have loved you since I saw you. But I also know Menâs mores and I don't expect anything from you,â he declares in a serious, almost sad, tone. âYou love me?â you stupidly ask, still stunned by his words.
A smile appears on FĂliâs face. The first smile since that night. A chuckle escapes his lips as his fingers find your cheek, warming it with the memories of what they have done to you. âAre you just going to keep questioning me?â he laughs, his moustacheâs braid bouncing. You laugh too, the whole tension vanishing. âEven if Iâm of Men, I only sleep with the person I love,â you shyly say. That's all it takes for FĂli to kiss you, this time with all the love he has for you.
Kili
Since you joined Thorinâs company, you have made friends with FĂli and KĂli. The time you enjoy the most is after dinner. They tell stories about their childhood in the Blue Mountains or some anecdotes about everyone while you tell them about your world. Like them, you canât stay quiet for a long time, so most of the time the others shout at you to go somewhere else to talk. Which you do.Â
FĂli is always the first to go to sleep. Thatâs why the others donât make fun of him when you barely can open your eyes in the morning when it's time to leaveâŠ
Talking with them at night has become routine and when you arrive in Rivendell, without having to worry about the next day, you spend your first sleepless nights with them. After some time, FĂli doesnât stay with you late less and less since Thorin seems to need him more and more in the morning.
As the quest goes on, you canât speak with KĂli in the evening. Fatigue, injury, watches, cold, danger, it seems that everything is trying to avoid you to enjoy your evening. Little by little, there comes a time when you canât remember the last time you had a long conversation with KĂli and you miss it terribly. During the day, you make some jokes but itâs not the same.
So, as soon as youâre feeling safe, you canât keep your tongue, you and of course KĂli. The first night at Beorn after Gandalf introduced everyone, you and KĂli spoke all night. So much time to make up! FĂli joined you for the first hour, but he quickly abandoned you.
The next morning, it takes you some time to remember where you are. You hear some voices from afar, but according to the bright sun, it must be late, especially since everyone is already up. Everyone except KĂli still sleeping next to you. Well⊠Behind you. His arm around your waist. His hand on your stomach. His head buried in your hair⊠He is too close, right? You can even feel his breathing in your neck. Should you stay like this? You definitely canât move without waking him up, and you donât want to wake up in this position. Especially with your cheek as red as a tomato.
But⊠Breakfast is calling you. As soon as you try to move his hand, his arm holds you stronger, your back pressed against his hard chest. He eventually grumbles, âDonât move.â You chuckle, âBut they wonât leave us anything to eat.â He laughs too, but doesn't seem to move. You wait, trying to find a good idea to wake him up until he says in a sleepy voice, âI want to wake up like this everydayâŠâ. You stay still a moment before turning to him and joking, âWithout breakfast?â. His answer doesnât wait, âWith you. In my arms. Every morning.â
Oh. Well. You want it too, but it sounds complicated, right? A woman of Men, a Dwarf prince. Plus, youâre poor. Oh and useless as well. You still donât know what youâre doing in this quest.
Tired of waiting for your reaction or your answer, KĂli suddenly sits up, his arms crossed on his chest, his hair in a mess, but above all, his frowning eyebrows. âI was saying that I love you, you know?â he says in an upset tone. âDonât joke with that KĂli,â you sigh, starting to feel hurt with a joke like this so early on a morning that was starting off so well. He already joked about this in the past, flirting with you randomly. He even already kissed you without saying anything afterward. Well, maybe because you almost died and you didnât have the time to talk about this butâŠ
âIâm not joking! I truly love you!â Now heâs not frowning, his eyes look sincere. You want to believe him. âBut you always joke about that,â you grumble in a pouting face. âNot about this. Never. AmrĂąlimĂȘ, I kissed you after we ran from the gobelins because I was so scared of losing you. I couldn't see you and I thought you had stayed behind. When I saw you, I couldn't control myselfâŠâ You stop pouting, hoping he says the truth. âReally?â you ask in a shy tone. âReally,â he confirms, a smile widening on his lips. You can't resist a smile like that. âBecause I love you too, and if you lie, Iâllââ Of course you canât finish your sentence. As soon as KĂli hears your words, he leans over you and kisses you. He begins slowly, barely brushing your lips, but when you kiss him back, his ardour takes over. As one of his hands keeps him from falling on you, the other one begins to touch your hip. Even though you would love to continue, you were thinking of stopping him when the door of your makeship dormitory opens. âIt's nearly midday! Time to get up, night owls!â FĂli exclaims until he sees what his brother is doing. âAlright, pretend I didn't come,â he says as he turns towards the door. âBut I won't be able to hold the others back for long.â He closes the door behind him, leaving you and KĂli laughing like teenagers caught in the act.
BilboÂ
During the quest, you easily became friends with Bilbo. He is a charming person, and you and he have a lot of things in common. Little by little, you understand your feelings for him were more than friendship, but you stayed quiet about it, the quest was too important to think about anything else. After the success of Erebor's quest, Thorin, the new king, offered you and Bilbo to live under the lonely mountain. Bilbo missed too much his home to stay here. Yet, he promised to visit them one day. For you, the choice was harder. The mountain seemed great. You would be glad to help with the rebuilding, but without Bilbo, it wouldn't be the same. So you decide to follow him.Â
It's obviously impossible for you to live in the Shire, so you have settled in the closest Menâs town: Bree. You have found a correct job and people are nicer than you would have thought. For visiting Bilbo, it's 6 days walking from door to door, but you quickly decided to use a horse. (You really miss trains and busesâŠ) So now you live two days' ride, you visit him when you can. Bilbo offered to visit you in Bree, but with his poniesâ allergy, you prefer coming to the Shire.Â
The Shire is beautiful, even more than all Bilbo told you during the quest. He always finds something interesting to show you. Hike, food, drink, festivities, landscape, market, watching the sky with Old Toby,... You enjoy every time you spend with him. At first, Hobbits looked at you strangely, but now, you could say you have drank tea with all of Bilbo's neighbours. Lucky for you, the closest inn of Bag End, the Green Dragon Inn, has one room at Menâs size, which you found weird until Bilbo explained itâs usually Gandalfâs room.
One summer evening, youâre dining in that very inn with Bilbo after a long hike in the east, on an outside table, the wind glowing softly on you. âIâm glad youâre here,â Bilbo says as he finishes his meal. âYou always worked during the summerâs festivities and I always wanted to see you.â âOh, no. Donât tell me it begins tomorrowâŠÂ But Iâm leaving tomorrow!â you sadly sigh. âWhy didnât you tell me sooner?â âI thought you knew,â Bilbo says as it was obvious. âItâs the same dates every year. And you saw the tent and everything under the Party Tree, didn't you?â âI thought it was over... Wait here, I'll check with Mr Whitfoot if I can stay in the room tomorrow night.â
Unlike usual, Bilbo is unable to read your face when you come back to your conversation with Mr Whitfoot, the innkeeper of the Green Dragon. âThe bad news is I canât have the room, but the good news is because Gandalf reserved it,â you smile bitterly, already regretting not going to the summer festivities with Bilbo.
âYou can stay at Bag End. I have enough room for you,â he said with a little nervousness in his voice. You notice his embarrassment and you donât want to impose yourself at his home. âI don't want to disturb you, Iâll think of it tonight and Iâll answer you tomorrow morning,â you explain with a smile. âYou wonât disturb me at all, but alright, weâll talk tomorrow,â he says, finally smiling again like usual.
Of course, you accept to stay at Bag End. The festivities, Gandalf, sleeping in Bag End, just next door to Bilboâs, waking up together, eating breakfast together, like a married couple. Alright, letâs stop now!
Gandalf is still the same. You spend a part of the night chatting with him and Bilbo, with some other curious young hobbits. At some point, after eating and drinking too much, you both decide to go back to Bag End. The night was very fun â despite Lobelia intervention when she learned you were staying in Bag End. In Bilboâs smial, you still can hear the laughs and the music from the Party Tree. âYouâre sure I can stay here? Your cousin, Lobelia didnât seem happy about it,â you joke as youâre taking off your shoes. âAccording to the latest news, Bag End is still my home,â he grumbles as youâre unable to hide your smile, enjoying his reactions every time you talk about Lobelia. âShe can say whatever she wants, itâs my home!â He could have grumbled a long time if you hadnât burst out laughing. âAlright. I get it,â he sighs before laughing with you. You both are tipsy and you continue to laugh until you reach your room.
âIf you need anything, I'm just in the room next door,â he smiles as you enter the guest bedroom. If you werenât as tired and as tipsy, you would have noticed the room has changed. The room is at your size. Both the ceiling and the furniture. âYou know your home by heart. I could make tea with my eyes closed!â you laugh, not noticing Bilboâs cheek becoming pink at your words. âBut thank you for letting me sleep here. Nights are not cold, but I never say no to a bed when I can have one!â âYouâre welcome. Donât forget to wake up early if you want breakfast,â he says, smirking. You canât count how many times you miss the first breakfast in the Shire.
Do you wake up late? Yes. Of course. The bed is so comfortable, the room is so quiet, the smell is so good⊠with a little touch of bread, tea, jam, egg,... You jump out of the bed and hurry up to the kitchen. Bilbo is smiling, âGood morning.â Has Bilbo been waiting for you? Itâs the first time you have breakfast with him since the quest is over, and something feels different now. The table looks so perfect. How many times have you dream of waking up here like that?Â
âDo you want tea?â he asks as he takes the kettle off the heat. âGood morning,â you murmur as you sit down on a chair at your size. As youâre half-asleep, you donât notice youâre still in nightdress, light for summer nights, but Bilbo did. Oh, he did, and thatâs why he shakes his head as he repeats his question. âYes, absolutely!â you exclaim with a broad smile. âI never saw a table like that for breakfast! So many dishes! Bombur would be jealous of your cooking skills! Iâm glad to be hungry! Everything looks so good! Can I try each plate?â you ask with great enthusiasm, perhaps a little too much. âOh, sorry. Iâm very loud for a morning. Itâs rude and annoyingâŠâ Bilbo sits in front of you with two cups of tea. Despite your behaviour, he looks happy. The morning rays of light gently illuminate his hair and face. You could easily get used to this every morning...
âNot at all. I've had mornings noisier than this,â he smiles as he sips his tea. âAnd yes, you can eat everything you want.â âDonât say that or Iâll really eat everything,â you laugh as you spread jam on your buttered toast. âI don't even have a third of this table in Bree, when I have breakfast. I mean, at home.â You still donât use to live in Bree as your home.
âI can make breakfast like this whenever you want,â he says in a too serious tone for a morning as youâre savouring one of his cheeses. âIâd love to, but I donât think I can stay another night. I have to go back to work,â you say, a little sad not to enjoy another night here, and another breakfast. A long silence makes you feel that something is wrong. Bilbo is too quiet for such a morning. You raise your head from your plate to see him looking at his tea, turning his spoon in his cup endlessly. âIf you stayed here, you could have breakfast whenever you like,â he says quietly. Youâre about to repeat your former answer, but Bilbo doesnât give you the time to do it.
âI wasnât talking about tomorrow. I mean, yes, Iâd love you to stay tomorrow, but I meant for all the mornings. I mean. Oh Yavanna, Iâm ridiculousâŠâ As he talks, he gets so upset that he gets to his feet and comes to stand in front of you, one fist clenched and the other hand pointing at you with his spoon. He breathes a last time before looking at you, his eyes eventually softening. âIf you want to, I would love you to live in Bag End with me.â
Youâre speechless first. Then, âI canât. I mean, Iâm of Men. No one wants somebody like me here,â you sigh as you look at your feet, feeling your tears welling up. âI want to,â Bilbo says, determined, as he takes your hands. âAnd I'm sure all the hobbits you know won't object. The whole Shire has realised a long time ago how I felt about you and they've all accepted you already.â âYour feelings?â you suddenly ask, your eyes searching for an answer in his eyes before his words. Yet, his eyes frown. âI wouldn't ask you to move to Bag End if I didn't love you. I'd even offer to make you a breakfast every morning, I don't know what more you needâŠâ
At this point, you can't hold back your laughter. Before his upset face, you react quickly. Pulling on his hands, he steps towards you close enough to feel his fringe caress your forehead. âI need a morning kiss, and Iâd stay here forever,â you murmur. His cheeks become redder than ever and his hands become sweaty, but when he decides eventually to kiss you, his lips are softer than you had imagined. Softer and sweeter.
Thorin
Tonight is the first night you spent with Men since Bree. Lack-town is still an unwelcome place for you and the company, but Bard and his family are very nice with you. With Sigridâs help, youâre warm now and you donât smell fish anymore. The children are already sleeping as some of the company. You donât know how to thank Bard since you donât have money like the others, so you offer your help in the house. After helping Sigrid with the dishes, you ask what you could do, and she explains they have some damaged clothes that need stitching and she has no idea how to do it.
So here you are, sitting in the corner of the table, in the light of a candle, mending some clothes. Everyone is busy with their own business when Thorin sits next to you. You first donât notice him, focused on your task. He put a warm tea next to you before speaking. âDo you want to be my Queen?â he says, as serious as ever. No one reacts, pretending to be still busy. âQueen of what?â you chuckle, still focused on your task. âQueen of Erebor,â he answers after making sure that Bard was no longer there to listen in. You donât notice how serious he is, all it takes for him to ask you that here, in front of the others. He is not the type of person who expresses his feelings in front of everyone, so you donât take it seriously. âBut there is no Erebor,â you say, not seeing how troubled he is with your answer. âNot now,â he continues after a long silence in which the crackling of the fire is the loudest sound. âBut Erebor will be with us soon.â
A smile appears on your lips as you finish what you have planned before going to sleep. After you take the tea that Thorin gave you, you turn to him. Now you notice how serious he was, how sad his eyes are despite his calm behaviour. You take a moment to repeat the conversation in your head. He is about to stand up when you exclaim, âWait, wait, wait!â You put your tea on the table, then raise your hands in front you. âYou want me as your Queen? Wait. But you. That what you said? But. Iâm confused,â you heart is beating too fast to say a correct sentence. When Thorin sees that your hands are shaking, he hesitates to take them. âI know Iâm good in organisation and papers, but that shouldnât be a reason to title me as a Queen. Should you choose someone you love? I thought Dwarves only chose to spend their life with their One. Oh, maybe royalty doesnât work like that.â
A laugh echoes in the room. Bofur gets Thorin's blackest look of his life. But for you, his eyes are sparkling and a smile eventually appears on his lips. A genuine smile. âThat's correct. I want my One as my Queen,â he says, his eyes not leaving yours. Now your cheeks are burning and you stop breathing. Do you really properly understand what he is saying?
You try to say something, but your words are blocked in your throat. Staying with your mouth open makes the future king chuckling. At the end of the room, you hear two dwarves sneezing exaggeratedly, âHeiswaitingforananswerâ then âNotinthreedaysâ. FĂli and KĂli earn the same look as Bofur, but you donât see it. As you only realise everyone in the room is looking at you, you suddenly stand up. Understanding you, Thorin stands up too, takes your hand and leads you outside.
As itâs dark and late, no one would see you, but the most preoccupying thing is the cold. Before you say anything, Thorin puts his jacket on your shoulders. âTell me if youâre cold,â he says seriously, but his jacket is so warm that you already forget about the weather. âDo you really mean it? Why do you think Iâm your One?â you shyly ask as you close the too big jacket on yourself, taking advantage to hide your burning cheeks. When you look back to him, youâre surprised to discover a new facet of Thorin. An (cute) embarrassed Thorin is in front of you. âMahal, how should I tell you?â he begins as he runs a hand on his face, stopping on his mouth. âI know you're my One because I love you. And this is why I want you to be my Queen.â He swallows his saliva with difficulty, waiting for an answer from you that doesn't seem to be coming. âBut maybe my feelings for you are not mutual, and if I offend you in any way, I apologise,â he says as his eyes sadden gradually.Â
âNo!â you eventually cry out as you grab his hands, surprisingly warm. You already touch them a few times, but never like that. âItâs mutual. Your feelings. I mean my feelings,â you sigh, trying to compose yourself. âI donât know why youâre telling me this in this Menâs town when weâre almost at Erebor, butââ He cuts you off, âI donât want you to stay here with your kin. I saw how you look at the town and⊠that man.â You frown, firstly because he stopped you while you were talking, secondly because he doesnât trust you. âWhat man?â âThe one who lets us stay in his house,â he grumbles.
âIf you let me talk, Thorin Oakenshield, you would know that I love you too, since the first time I saw you! About Lake-town, I know nobody here. They are not my kin. The company is my family now!â you hurry to say before the conversation takes a bad turn. You truly love him from the start, but you obviously never hoped for anything. âAre you sure Iâm your One?â you ask again, making him eventually smile. He realises one of your hands to run his in your hair. âI've never been so sure of anything,â he tenderly says. As he looks for a place for a braid, you canât remain motionless. A step is enough to access his lips and you take that step. At the beginning, you feel Thorinâs surprise, but it quickly progresses into a sweet, lovely kiss under a snowy night.

Are Those Tears?
Thorin x Female Reader
Prompt: When Thorin stares death in the face, you both realize your feelings for each other may be a little stronger than friendship.
Warnings: Angst, Fluff, Some slight blood/gore, mentions of death, Thorin being a softie for once.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nothing could have prepared you for this journey. No amount of training would have sufficed. The whole company making it this far virtually intact was a miracle within itself. You had all survived attempt after attempt on your lives. It seemed that the odds of completing this journey were in your favor, having escaped each encounter with mere scrapes and bruises.
But this time you might not be so lucky.
The muscles in your arms and core ache, as you cling desperately to the branch of a fallen tree on the edge of a cliff, your legs dangling hundreds of feet above the ground. You can hear the grunts and bellows of your incapacitated comrades, confirming that they are in the same predicament as you. The snarls and howls of the Wargs add to the cacophony, making the hair on the back of your neck stand up. You realize that the only thing keeping the large predators and their riders from swooping in and slaughtering you all is the blazing fire surrounding the tree you all cling to. Azog the defiler sits astride a white Warg, pacing back and forth in front of the wall of flames separating them from you. You see Azog and his mutt pause in their pacing, the pale orc's scarred face hardening.
Thunk. Thunk. Thunk.
"Thorin, no!" Balin exclaims quietly. You lift your head as a large boot plants onto the tree trunk next to you. The figure makes his way past, through the flames, towards the pale orc. The long dark hair, peppered with streaks of grey, the broad shoulders, the determined stride. It was unmistakably Thorin.
No.
A sudden wave of desperation crashes over you, making your stomach turn. You just want to reach out and grab him, yank him back. You want to scream, to beg, to yell at him to just turn around. Your breathing becomes ragged, and one quiet word manages to claw its way out of your throat, repeating over and over under your breath, like a prayer waiting to be answered.
"No. No. No. No." Thorin's steps do not falter, his sword glinting in the light of the blazing inferno that lines his path. It feels as though the world is moving in slow motion as Thorin charges the pale orc, armed with his sword and his shield. His Oaken Shield. How life has a funny way of coming full circle. Azog the defiler guides his pale furred Warg in a mighty leap from the boulder he had been perched upon.
The blow dealt to Thorin as the white Warg collides with him in mid-air snaps you back to reality with a rush of dread. The force of the beasts bodyweight stops Thorin in his tracks, sending him crashing to earth. Reality sets in as you hear the rest of the company fighting the pull of gravity, straining to hold on to the strand of life that is this fallen tree.
Azog wheels his pale beast around, charging at Thorin once more, and sending a bone rattling blow of his mace to the dwarf's chest, knocking him back to the ground. A pang hits you directly in your heart, and flows through your bloodstream, some desperate feeling you can't quite place seeping into your very bones. You don't understand the feeling well enough to give it a name. All you know is that it gives you enough strength to muscle yourself up with a strangled cry, huffing and gritting your teeth as you clamber up to the trunk of the tree. You can barely feel the heat that burns the palms of your hands, red and raw from clinging to the rough bark of the tree branch.
The Hobbit, Bilbo, seems to have the same rush of bravery that you do, and you see his small form scramble up to the trunk of the tree, pausing to take one deep breath to right his turbulent mind before charging into the fray, armed with his little elvish knife.
The wretched hound of hell clamps its jaws around Thorin. The sickening sound of Thorin's ribs cracking reaches your ears, making your head swim. You can feel yourself call out his name in agony, but it sounds like someone else's voice is coming from your mouth as you stumble a few steps along the fallen tree. You right yourself in time to see the mutt toss Thorin like a farm dog tosses a snake, his form crashing onto a patch of hard rock on the hillside.
"(Y/N)!" Balin shouts as you start hauling it to where Thorin lays, hot on Bilbo's heels. "No, Lass! It's too dangerous!" No response comes from your lips, your mouth set in a grimace as you have a clear view out to where one of the Defilers minions is preparing to behead Thorin. He lies pinned upon the rocky ground, his breathing ragged, teeth clenched in defiance as he grasps around desperately for his sword.
You quickly overtake Bilbo, and with a muffled grunt you stiffen your shoulders, tackling the Orc with the force of your body weight, bowling it over. You can hear Azog's roar of dissent as you stop the orcs deadly blow mid swing. A sharp pain explodes like a lightning strike in your right shoulder, making you cry out. As you and the orc tumble away from Thorin, the filthy monster rolls atop you with a snarl, pinning you down. You struggle futilely beneath it, flailing like a madman, grasping for something, anything to protect yourself, and finding nothing. The orc raises its armored fist, pulling back to deliver a skull crushing blow.
Suddenly, the orc shrieks, blood spewing from its mouth, spraying you in the face. It falls to the side, revealing a fiery eyed Bilbo, delivering continuous blows with his small, but mighty blade. You gasp for air, viciously wiping your face with the sleeve of your tunic and scrambling away.
You crawl to the barely conscious form of Thorin, not caring about the rocks and twigs scraping your skin through the thin fabric of your clothing. Ignoring the shooting pain in your shoulder, you pull yourself up to your knees, cradling his head in your lap. His half-lidded gaze holds yours for a moment, as if trying to see into your very soul. A thin sheen of sweat coats his face as he murmurs a single word, before slipping into the warm embrace of unconsciousness.
"(Y/N)..." Thorin breathes out softly. If you had not been watching his lips move you would have assumed you imagined it. His eyes flicker shut, his ragged gasps slowing to shallow breaths. Tears well up in your eyes as you brush some of his sweat drenched hair from his regal face.
"Just hold on. Please." You whimper helplessly, gazing down at him. You look up to see the heart wrenching sight of Bilbo all alone, standing his ground as the monsters descend upon you, his hands shaking as he holds his sword at the ready. The hobbit plants his feet, swinging his sword wildly around in an attempt to intimidate the foes before him. Sparks fly from the burning portion of forest that surrounds you, and you feel a deep sadness, wondering if this is truly the end of your adventure.
You take another moment to gaze down at Thorin. You trace his face with your eyes, trying to memorize every feature and contour. Running your thumb over his cheekbone in a way you would have never been brave enough to do before, a sigh escapes your lips. With a shaky breath, you lean down, hesitating for a moment before pressing a feather soft kiss to his forehead, holding back the tears that threaten to spill. Wishing more than anything that you had been brave enough to tell him how you feel, you now vow to not go down a weeping, helpless mess. You hold back your tears, forcing yourself to stare defiantly back at the group of vicious carnivores that approach the three of you.
One of the Wargs snaps its head to the side, sniffing the air. A sudden battle cry makes you start, and you whip your gaze in the direction of the commotion. Your spirit lifts as the unmistakable figures of Fili and Kili come charging in from a gap in the flames, tailed closely by Dwalin. They attack the Wargs and their riders swiftly, slicing and hacking with their weapons. You try to get up to help, but your energy is sapped from wrestling the Orc. You opt to be a close-range protector to Thorin, crouching in front of him, your fingers wrapping around the hilt of his sword that you spotted lying a few feet away.
A vicious noise that you didn't know you were capable of making tears its way through your throat as a Warg stalks toward Thorin with a snarl. You grip the hilt of the sword tighter, your knuckles white as you prepare to fight tooth and nail to protect Thorin. You shift on your feet as you crouch low, poised to spring up and drive the blade straight through the roof of the beasts' mouth and into its brain.
Before you get the chance, a giant flurry of wind and feathers scoops up the Warg, the beast yelping as it is hurled unceremoniously from the cliffside. You scramble back slightly, your mouth falling open as you look to the sky in disbelief and slight fear.
Eagles bigger than you have ever seen circle the cliffs edge, swooping in to snatch and dispose of the Wargs and their riders. Some of the mighty birds use the wind from their wings to fan the flames that burn the forest, singeing a group of mutts. You feel a moment of peace, but it doesn't last long. Your eyes widen slightly, terror etching your face as one of the birds makes a beeline for you.
"Wait. Wait! WAIT!" You shriek, as the giant bird envelops you in its claws. The fur of Thorin's jacket, which you had been holding on to, slips from your grasp as the creature tosses you off the edge of the cliff. You tumble through the air, screaming bloody murder, before landing with a thud on the back of another eagle, knocking the wind out of you slightly. You curse under your breath as you gasp for air, trying to regain your bearings. Your eyes scan around, realizing that every member of the company was either caged safely in the claws of one of the Avians, or sat comfortably atop one.
You hear a rage filled roar in the distance as the eagles whisk you all away. You feel a pit in your stomach, realizing that Azog is still alive, and you know that he will never stop hunting down the line of Durin. Your stomach drops as your worried mind flickers back to Thorin. You try to spot him, your eyes scanning each of the birds. The morning sun makes it nearly impossible, partially blinding you. You tuck your face into the soft feathers you sit upon, tears pricking your eyes as you pray the eagles will land soon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Groggily lifting your bruised and battered head, you scan around, realizing the eagles are making their descent. They all circle slowly down, landing atop a rocky spire, where you can see for miles around. Your eagle lands last, and your heart drops as you see Thorin lying still upon the flat ground, the company standing around him. You slide down from the back of the eagle, crumpling slightly as your legs hit the ground. Fili and Kili appear at your side almost instantly, supporting you under your arms as you try to regain your balance. You wince as Kili bumps your shoulder, hissing through your teeth.
"Are you alright, (Y/N)?" Kili asks in concern, releasing your arm slightly.
"Yes, I just... never mind me." You tear your eyes away from Thorin, finding Bilbo a few feet away. You pull away from the brothers, limping over to hug Bilbo. "Thank you." You whisper, pulling back and meeting Bilbo's gaze. He nods, and nothing else needs to be said. Bilbo is smart enough to be able to read the emotion behind your eyes. Your hand rests on his shoulder, and you both smile softly before you turn your gaze back to Thorin.
Gandalf kneels beside Thorin, his hand hovering over his face as he murmurs some spell over his unconscious form. You can feel the tears of desperation welling up in your eyes as you look on helplessly, silently begging whatever God is listening to please, let him live. You can feel yourself shaking as the company waits with bated breath. Then, his eyes finally flutter open, the dwarf drawing a deep breath.
Hot tears fall from your eyes, and you don't bother to stop them. You feel as though a weight has been lifted from your shoulders. He lives. He clambers to his feet, aided by Dwalin and Kili. He shakes them off, the angry look on his face surprising you all. He locks eyes with you, before flickering his gaze to Bilbo.
"You two." Thorin says in an accusing tone, glaring at the both of you. A confused look crosses your face, the rest of the company looking on.
"What were you doing?" Thorin snaps. "You nearly got yourselves killed!" Your eyes lock onto his, and you don't bother wiping the tears from your face as you stand bewildered.
"Did I not say that you would be a burden?" Thorin hisses, stalking towards you. "That you would not survive in the wild? That you had no place amongst us?" You hold his gaze, teary eyed as he looks between yourself and Bilbo, seemingly berating you. He pauses for a moment, the rest of the company sharing glances in disbelief.
Emotion suddenly takes over Thorin's face. "I have never been so wrong, in all my life." He steps forward, embracing Bilbo, patting him on the back. You could almost laugh at the look of shock on Bilbo's face as he tentatively returns his hug. Thorin pulls back, meeting Bilbos eyes with an apologetic look. "I am sorry I doubted you."
Thorin's eyes turn to you, his face softening as he looks at your tear-stained face. He takes the few steps to close the distance between you. The company becomes rather quiet as he silently approaches, his eyes never leaving your face. He stops in front of you, pausing, and you sniffle slightly, looking down at your feet, too embarrassed to meet his gaze. Your heart stops as his rough hand rises to your face, gently tilting your chin up, forcing you to look at him. His eyes search yours, his thumb brushing over your cheek as he wipes away a fresh tear.
"Are those tears, AmrĂąlimĂȘ?" Thorin murmurs, making your heart skip a beat. He brings his other hand to your face, wiping away the rest of your tears, even as your eyes well up more. "No more of those." He says quietly, leaning forward and nuzzling his nose against yours gently, before pulling back to press a lingering kiss to your forehead. "Are you alright? Are you hurt?" He murmurs, his eyes scanning your form. His hand still cupping your jaw gently. You shake your head, your eyes locked on his. Kili speaks up at your lie, knowing you are indeed hurt.
"She hurt her right shoulder." Kili says, before falling silent with an apologetic look. You glare at him, sighing in defeat as Thorin calls over Oin to take a look at your shoulder.
"What about you? You definitely need to be checked out, Thorin." You say sternly as thorin guides you to sit on a rock a few feet away. A small smile graces his face.
"I appreciate your concern. But you come first." He says softly, making you blush profusely. He gives a nod to Oin before stepping away to speak with Gandalf. Fili and Kili make their way over to you, giving each other a knowing look. You narrow your eyes at them before tugging on Kili's sleeve, making him kneel down to your level on the hard ground as Oin examines your shoulder.
"Kili, what does... AmrĂąlimĂȘ mean?" You ask inquisitively, as you know minimal Khuzdul. The brothers share another look, smiling at each other.
"You will find out in time." Kili says cryptically, standing up with a grin after giving you a pat on the back. You give him an exasperated look, cursing as Oin adjusts your shoulder. The brothers turn away with smirks plastering their faces, leaving you to ponder what Thorin could possibly have said.

Kili Durin x Human!Soulmate!reader
Word Count: 1.8K
Thorin was getting worried, Kili had become somewhat of a ghost story over the past month. He had assumed that his nephew was simply doing his duty. Kili had volunteered to be the envoy between Dale and Erebor for the discussions of armament and training. However, that treaty was signed a week ago, and said envoy position was no longer needed. So why in all of Arda was Kili still going to Dale every day? The young prince left as soon as he was finished with his daily tasks and didnât return to the mountain until well after the sun had set. Thorin was not worried for his nephew's safety, after all, Kili was an excellent warrior and could take care of himself, no, Thorin was worried for Kiliâs heart.Â
Fili had also noticed his brotherâs absence but the blonde prince had always been a bit more perceptive than his surly uncle. Fili had noticed that Kili was missing, but he also noticed that every time he returned to the mountain it was with the most dopey grin that he had ever seen. A grin that he recognized, for it had also graced his face a few months ago when he met his beloved Alma. Fili would bet his beard on it, Kili was in love.
You on the other hand were getting more and more annoyed each time the brown-haired dwarf walked through the front door. He was charming sure, and polite. But he stared. At you. The whole time he was there. And he was there a lot. His attempts to engage you in conversation were far and few between, the few times he was able to grab your attention away from the bustling building he became tongue-tied the moment your eyes landed on his.
Kili didnât understand why he couldnât say more than a few words to you without choking on his words. Your eyes had to hold some kind of spell within them. They enchanted him and left him bewitched every time he caught their gaze. It left him frustrated, he had never had this much trouble with women before, why were you so different? Deep down he knew though, you werenât just any woman. He was afraid though, afraid that naming what you were to him out loud would make it real. And when it is real, it can hurt you.Â
There werenât very many stories on Oneâs where the love didnât end up requited, either because it just simply never happened. Dwarves were incredibly stubborn creatures after all, and it was entirely possible that they just wore down their other half until some sort of connection formed. It was also possible that those unfortunate few who werenât able to woo their other half died of broken hearts. The former was unlikely as Kili kept having to remind himself, he couldnât die of a broken heart. Right?
He was determined tonight though, to find out definitively if the sparks he felt for you were just interest in the handsome woman from Bree, or if you truly were the other half of his soul. To do that though he would need to say more than a few words to you. The problem with that was that you seemed exceptionally busy tonight.
Busy you were, Brant had told you last night that he was going to be leaving today to go to visit family for some type of emergency.Â
âIf the place is still standing when I get back, weâll talk more about it becoming yours someday.â He had said. You were hoping that that âsomedayâ was sooner rather than later. Brant was getting up there in years. Just last week he had hurt himself trying to lift one of the barrels of ale that had been shipped in from the Iron Hills. You had been taking on more and more of his old tasks and to be completely honest, it felt like you did the job of an owner anyway, just without all the benefits.
You werenât going to let the man down though, even if it did mean rushing back and forth all night trying to keep up with demand all by yourself.
âAnother! Y/N,â was yelled in front the back of the room. Roland was a boisterous man who got along with everyone, he was only a year or two older than you and was currently on his eighth pint of the night. He had a large countenance and seemed to fill up whatever space he occupied, he was handsome but the more and more he drank the less his looks mattered. Usually, this is the point in the night where he starts bordering more on unruly rather than fun-loving. Nevertheless, he was a paying customer and as long as he could still walk on his own out the doors, you werenât going to say no to his money.
You grabbed another pint glass and poured one for him, balancing it and several other drinks on a tray. You steeled yourself with a deep breath before running back out into the fray.Â
Walking close to the stool he was sat on you leaned slightly over him and placed his pint down on the counter beside him. He was engrossed in the conversation between the large group of men, something about the best way to skin a buck, you werenât really listening. As you grabbed his empty glass to take back to the kitchen to be washed, his large hand encircled your wrist none too gently.
âA pint is a wonderful thing, but it is even more delicious when served by a beautiful lady,â He whispered into your ear. You grit your teeth and roughly pull your hand back.Â
âNow, Roland, what have we said about touching things that donât belong to you? Huh? Touch the wrong thing and you might just lose your hand.â You spit back at him. Cutting your eyes up at the mounted swords that rest above the fireplace only a few steps from where the two of you are. âIâd hate to have to clean those swords, they are sharp.â You look back into his eyes, satisfied with the fear that you see within them. You stand back up and place your tray back upon your shoulder.Â
âAnything else I can get you gents?â You question the other men scattered about the space. Silence reigned over the air for a few moments.Â
âAlrighty then.âÂ
A pint here, a glass of wine there, and two hot meals delivered later, your tray was empty and everyone in the place seemed momentarily satisfied.Â
Letting out a breath you lean up against the counter.
âWhat did you say to him?â A somewhat familiar voice pipes up beside you. You turn your head towards the voice. It's the dwarf prince, and you are once again struck with just how handsome he is. You are also struck with the familiar feeling of annoyance, of course, he picked now to talk to you. Just when you had finally afforded yourself a break.
âHmm?â You raise a singular eyebrow at him. âWho?â
âThat large and very drunk man in the back, I couldnât hear what you said but I could see the look on his face. It was similar to my brotherâs when our mother would scold him for forgetting his manners.â
âThatâs not too far off actually, Roland over there got a little too comfortable and touched something that didnât belong to him, I had to remind him of the rules.â
âAnd what exactly did he touch that was so forbidden?â The prince smirks and laughs.
You smirk back and lift a glass to your lips before uttering one single word, âMe.â
All of the laughter drained from Kiliâs face, âHe touched you?â His voice had gotten much lower, his eyes darkened right before you.
You rolled your eyes. âIâm going to stop you right there Your Highness, I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself. Iâve been doing it for years. I donât need some man, no matter how handsome he is coming to defend my honor every time Iâm even remotely slighted. The trail of bodies will get far too long.â You stare into his eyes as you speak, putting all the righteous fury youâve got stored inside into each word.Â
Seconds tick by before he opens his mouth to speak again.
âYou think Iâm handsome?â
âI think that we have bigger problems if that is the only thing you got from that.â You took another sip.
âNo, no, no I got the point, you donât need a big strong man to come to your rescue. Lucky for you, I am not big.â
The laugh that sprung from the back of your throat caught you off guard, you slap a hand over your mouth in an impossible effort to catch it and shove it back inside. He was funny, he had never been funny before.
Kili liked your laugh even though it was closer to a snort than an actual laugh, and he would be foolish to ignore the way his heart picked up at the thought that he was the one who made you laugh.
âYou- I- I have never heard of a dwarf who makes fun of themselves, in my limited experience your lot are very prideful.â
âNot as prideful as some other races, I should think.â
âNo, youâre not nearly as prideful as the pointy-eared bastards who hole themselves up in that accursed forest.â Your words held a healthy amount of rage as well as teasing.
âI sense that there is a story there somewhere.â Kili raised an eyebrow, mimicking your face from earlier. He was desperately trying not to think about the fact that this was the longest conversation the two of you had had up to date.
âOne that Iâm going to need a lot more liquid courage before divulging, Iâm afraid.â
âWe can make that happen.â Kili wiggled his eyebrows and pointed at the bottles of liquor behind the bar that separated the two of you.
At that very moment, a shout from the rowdy bunch of men in the back rang out, calling for another round.
âDuty calls your highness, but perhaps I will tell you that story⊠another time.â You winked at him and grabbed for your tray again, beginning to load it up once more. If that is how conversations with the dwarf prince went all the time, you wouldnât mind having them more often. Â
You walked away before Kili could come up with a response, but he was more certain than he ever had been that your heart called to his. Why else would the very sight of you walking away feel like his heart was leaving too?

The Misread Braid: Part 2
Rating: fluff/angst
Relationship: filixreader
This is part 2...the first part was from an ask; I will link it at the bottom.
Author's note will be at the bottom as well... I don't want to spoil anything.
The next few days were the same. Fili canceled plans, worked late into the night, and ignored you. Ori and Nori, whom you had asked to deliver a letter to him, reported that he wouldn't accept it. Your heart ached, feeling certain that he was upset with you. The rest of the company was unusually quietâthere was no gossip, no tea, no whispers, and no one seemed willing to give you a straight answer. Desperate for information, you decided to seek out Bilbo. You found him in his room, absorbed in a book. After he invited you in for tea, you got straight to the point.
"Bilbo, what's wrong with Fili?" you asked.
"Nice to see you too," Bilbo replied flatly, setting his book aside and putting the kettle on the stove.
"Why is he avoiding me?" you pressed.
"Oh, don't worry about him. Chamomile or green tea?" he asked, shifting the subject.
"Green, please," you said, then added, "But he keeps canceling plans."
"I'd give it some time, Y/N. He's justâoh, whoops, I spilled some water. Can you grab me a towel?" Bilbo said, trying to change the subject.
You stood up to fetch the towel and handed it to him. "He's just what?" you asked.
Bilbo glanced at you quickly before heading to the pantry for cookies. "He's just a little upset right now," he said.
"I know that already. Did I do something wrong?" you asked, feeling anxious.
"Oh no, Y/N," Bilbo said with a half-smile. "Fili wants you to be happy. He's actually happy about your courtship andâ"
"Wait, courtship?" you interrupted.
"YesâŠ" Bilbo looked puzzled.
"What courtship?" you asked.
"The courtship with our friend?" Bilbo clarified.
"I'm not courting my friend! Why would you think that?"
"Your braid? Dwarves court by braiding each other's hair."
"Oh my god," you said, realization dawning. "My friend just braided my hair because I asked them toâŠnot because I'm courting them."
"Really?" Bilbo asked, surprised. "Then why did you invite your friend?"
"Because I thought Fili was going to court me!" you explained.
"He was!" Bilbo exclaimed. Excitement filled the air as you both realized how this misunderstanding could be easily fixed. The gears turn in your head, and you know what to do.
"I gotta go," you yelled, dashing to the door before Bilbo could stop you.
â------------
Racing through the halls toward Fili's room, you were bubbling with excitement. You hadn't realized braiding was part of their courting tradition, and you were eager to talk to Fili. Â
Knocking at Fili's door, you heard him approach from the other side. When he opened it, you noticed his demeanor change immediately.
"Y/n," he said surprised
"Can I come in? I want to talk," you said, smilingÂ
"I-I'm pretty busy, Y/N." He raised a hand to the nape of his neck, clearly uncomfortable, and started to close the door to keep you from seeing inside.
"Please," you insistedÂ
"Y/n, I told you -Â
"Fili, who is that?" a voice called from inside.
You froze, stunned, before pushing past him into the room. The scene that greeted you left you speechlessâa disheveled room, clothes thrown about, and a half-naked dwarf lying in Fili's bed.
You turned to face Fili, finally noticing the details: his face was sweaty and red, his shirt untucked and half open, and his hairâthere it wasâa poorly done braid.
"What the fuck?" you demanded.
"Y/N, I can explain," he started, his voice laced with panic.
"What's going on? Fili, who is this?" the dwarf asked, beginning to gather their belongings.
"Get the fuck out!" you screamed, grabbing a shoe and flinging it at the intruder. They scrambled out the door, still in their undergarments.
"Bitch," you heard them mutter as they left.
Fili shifted uncomfortably, his face flushing with a deep red. "IâY/N, it's not what it looks like."
"It's not?" you said, your anger rising. "Then what is it? Because it certainly looks like you've been getting close with someone else!"
"Oh, that's rich coming from you," he snapped.
"What does that mean" you growled out.Â
"I saw you with your so-called friend. Congratulations on the courtship," he said bitterly.Â
"I'm not courting my friend Fili," you screamed
He went silent.
"I'm not being courted," you said again, walking toward him.
"But I saw you twoâ"
"I didn't realize braiding was a courtship custom for dwarves," you said, tears starting to fall. "I asked them to braid my hair because I thought... I thought you were going to court me. I wanted to look beautiful that night just in case you asked," you added, your voice cracking.
Fili's eyes widened with realization. You undid your braid and handed him the ribbon. There was an eery silence as he looked down at the ribbon. You turned away, unable to look at him.
"Please, Y/N, let me explain," he begged. "I never meant to hurt you. I thoughtâ"
His apology was met with your silent tears. Fili, overwhelmed, wrapped his arms around you, pulling you into a tight embrace. His voice was barely above a whisper. "I'm so sorry. I'm sorry."
Fili cupped your face and kissed youâkisses of desperation and regret. His lips trailed to your cheeks, kissing where your tears had fallen. You felt torn, wanting to kiss him back, to believe this was all a dream, a sick joke, but deep down, you knew it wasn't. You quickly pulled away.
"Y/N, please forgive me," he whispered, his hand gripping yours tightly.
His apology hung in the air as the silence between you grew. You glanced up at Fili one last time before walking away.
"Please," Fili shouted after you, but he knew the damage was done.

hii :D
iâve a request, could u write kili durin x male!reader where the reader asks to braid kilis hair not realising that itâs courtship in the dwarfish culture. kĂli has the biggest crush on the reader and takes this as a sign that the reader likes him back. the reader did not realise thatâs what braiding a dwarfs hair means and was also totally oblivious to kilis crush on him and never noticed he was flirting and always assumed he was just very friendly, but obviously the reader likes kili back and itâs just total fluff đđ
thank you smm đđ
Braids and Courting
Kili Durin X Gn Elf Reader
Being an elf wasn't as great as some beings would think. Of course with being an elf there was skills you had to learn, that were useful. The long and beautiful hair, the soft skin, the pointed ears and the youthful look. All those were great of course.
What wasn't that great was being part of the higher class elves. This meant that eventually you would have to marry and usually you didn't love the person next to you. It was just part of the routine in everyone's life. However you didn't want to wake up next to someone that didn't love you. Or someone you didn't love.
So that's exactly why you left home when you did. It wasn't long before you met Gandalf the Wizard. Him knowing who you were of course, because that man had a lot of knowledge after all his years of living. He had stayed with you for a bit, and it didn't take him long until he invited you to join the group. Of course you could never say no to an adventure so you agreed.
That's exactly how you ended up right here. You had been with the group of dwarfs for a long while now. Even before the hobbit came along and joined you guys.
You were fairly close with fili and thorin, those two were like your best friends. The others you were like a family with except for one. Kili who was filis brother, he was someone you felt strong feelings for. Feelings that go past platonic or familiar feelings. No these were feelings of love, however you never knew how to express these types of feelings because you never really saw it being done.
Over the span of time there had been many moments where Kili had done very sweet things. Things that made your heart pound and your stomach feel weird but of course you thought it was just him being friendly.
-----
Walking around with Thorin in comfortable silence as you both looked for another path was interrupted when you hear someone join you. Turning to look who it was you saw Kili beside you. He looked up at you and held out some berries. "here I had a feeling you would be getting a bit hungry around this time. Have some of these, I have extra"
He grabs your hand and places the berries in your hand. "thank you but don't you need them?" Kili shakes his head "No take them" he squeezes your hand gently before walking back towards his brother. Leaving the quiet thank you that left your lips just drifting into the air.
It was too dark to see the faintest of smile form on Thorin's lips as you go back beside him and eat the berries that Kili had given you.
-----
There had been many times like this
There was one day when all of you had found a big field of flowers. You were so focused on drawing the scene. You liked to draw pretty things and so you were sitting by a tree drawing on a piece of parchment with a pencil you had brought.
In fact you were so focused you didn't even notice how Kili had been picking flowers and making you a flower crown. Eventually when he was finished he came and sat next to you. You rested your head on his shoulder for just a second before looking over at him "hi Kili"
Just the sound of his name coming from your lips made him smile. "hi y/n" he replied before grabbing the flower crown he had made you. "here put this on. Have to see if it fits"
You lower your head a bit so he could place it on your head. It fit perfectly and when you sit back up and look at him. He smiles and nods "perfect, it looks good on you" You smile and blush very softly. "thank you" he nods and walks away.
When he is a good distance away his brother. Your best friend comes and sit on the other side of you. "how long are you going to be blind to the fact that my brother is infatuated with you?" The shocked look on your face makes him laugh. "what? what do you mean, infatuated?"
He looks at you and sighs "You cant tell me you havent noticed the way he always makes you things and gives you things. Always making sure your cared for" Your silent for a moment before it all comes together. "oh"
Fili places his hand on your shoulder "i will let you decide what to do with this information" He gets up and walks away leaving you to think about what to do.
Kili had made something for you and given you things so you decide you should do something for him. You've recently noticed that he has been pushing his hair out of his face more frequently than normal so you decide you would braid his hair for him. Just so its out of his face.
You get up after putting your things away back into your bag. Then begin to walk over to where Kili is. When you get to him he notices you right away and looks at you. "hey Kili. Could you come sit with me for a moment?" He nods and walks with you and sits against the tree next to you.
"everything okay?" he asks a little worried but when you give him a nod and take a breath to calm yourself. "would you mind if I did your hair. I've noticed you pushing it out of your face a lot recently and id like to help?" He looks at you for a moment before turning around.
"what are you going to do with it?" He asks
"i'm just going to braid it. I promise I will make it look good" you reply
Kili looks straight ahead so you don't see the smile that's forming on his face. In the dwarf culture braiding hair is a sign of courtship. He didn't know if you knew that or not but either way he decided to play it cool. Not wanting to make you uncomfortable and you stop.
You kneel behind him on your knees to get in a more comfortable position. Then you begin to gently get all of his hair and pushing it back so you can split it into three sections. Once its in three sections you begin to twist them all with each other, braiding his hair very nicely.
Kili was sitting there patiently not saying much. But you do notice the way he rests his head against your hands. His whole body seems to relax under your touch and a sigh escapes him when you begin to gently massage his shoulders.
When you are finally finished you pull away and he turns around and looks at you. "thank you" he says and you nod. "you look very handsome Kili. I hope you will let me do it again sometime"
He nods and brings your hand up to kiss the back of it. "of course, you are the only one ill let touch my hair." You smile and nod "great ill be honoured" when the both of you get up and go your separate ways Kili gets a few looks since most of them know what this means.
You on the other hand are pulling your bag back over your shoulders. Doing your own thing, when Thorin walks up to you. "y/n" he says which causes you to look over at him. "Thorin"
Thorin looks at Kili and then back to you. "i'm assuming that you are the one that braided his hair?" You nod in response "yes I am, is that a problem?" He shakes his head "no of course not. I just have one question, Do you know that braiding a dwarfs hair means you are courting them?"
A smile forms on your face, no second thoughts are needed. "I know that now. And I find myself rather pleased that people will know that the both of us are together" Thorin smiles and nods placing his hand on your shoulder. "well its about time" he jokes a bit.
This causes you to smile and decide to tease him back. "how about you and the hobbit? When will you two decide to court each other" Thorin blushes very lightly and shakes his head "I don't know what you mean by that"
"mhm sure you dont" you say with a smirk before walking up to Kili. This time instead of standing beside him, you slip your hand into his and hold onto it. From that day on everyone knew that the two of you were spoken for.

(A/n) âł I started writing this mid November of last year back when I started the Hobbit. I plan to upload this series either Spring or Winter. Feedback is greatly appreciated. I feel like this is more of my better works considering I wanted it to feel like the Hobbit/LOTR.

Series Masterlist || Chapter 1
(Y/n) watched from the corner, watching as each dwarf was pushed into a cell. Their complaints were falling on deathâs ears.
She stepped out from the shadows and towards Legolasâs direction, wanting to know where the dwarves came from.
âWhat do you know of dragons, girl?â The dwarfâs voice was gruff, laced with bitterness as he eyed the dragon sigils embroidered into her clothing. âYou wear it like a badge of honor.â
(Y/n) eyed him as well, realizing who the dwarf in the cell was. âYouâre Thorin Oakenshield? Heir to the throne of Erebor.â
Thorinâs fists clenched around the iron bars. âYou have yet to answer my question.â
(Y/n)âs eyes widened in amazement. âI cannot believe it. Iâve-â
â(Y/n)! Dina!â Legolas commanded her to come. âGet away from the dwarf.â
With that, she walked away, leaving no room for Thorin or (Y/n) to say anything.
âMust you speak to them?â Legolas sneered, following you down the steps. âWhat reason do you have?â
âIâve always wanted to see the infamous Thorin Oakenshield. It was not disappointing.â
â...Is it?â
(Y/n) nodded, a smile on her lips. âYes. If what they say is true⊠If they reclaim the mountain, I would love to see the glory of Erebor.â
Legolas froze in his steps. âI am beginning to wonder where your allegiance lies.â
âWhat makes you wonder that?â
â...Go, I need to report to the King.â
She rolled her eyes, asking herself if her curiosity made Legolas or anyone else question her loyalty.
Of course, her loyalty lies with Thranduil, he saved her and took a human and a dragon in. A human not from this world.
The sun had begun to set when (Y/n) stood at Thorinâs cell. âMight I ask you something?â She began, breaking the silence.
He looked up at her, eyes wary. âWhat is it? Dragon rider?â
âIf you had no memories of the kingdom or its riches, would you still fight to reclaim it?â
âYes.â He answered without hesitation. âFor it is not the gold or treasures that drive me, but the honor and memory of my kin who were lost. To reclaim Erebor is to honor their memory, to give those who wish for their home.â
He stepped closer to the bars as he spoke his words, loudly enough for the rest of the Company to hear. He spoke with bravery and pride, not a single once of shame in them.
(Y/n) listened to his words closely. It made her think of her own home, the writing of the book could not describe the doom correctly.
Only a dream, unsure if it came trueâŠ
(Y/n) became lost in her thoughts, she began to speak aloud. âI wonderâŠâ She uttered. âWhat it would be to see Valyria, to walk the streets, see the dragons fly into the sky with my people on its back. I wonder if any Targaryens remain.â
She sighed, sitting down on the steps. âI wonder if the dream was true and the doom of my home was correct.â
Thorin, still irate from the encounter from earlier but genuinely curious about her side of dragons, sat as well. âWas it taken?â
âIt was destroyed. A Targaryen had a dream, D⊠Daenys had a dream. She had foresaw the destruction. But I have no way to know if it was true, I do not know if Valyria still stands or if any Targaryens remain to rule the skies.â
(Y/n) looked up to the ceiling, closing her eyes to remember how Valyria was described. âTo be home. I would give my life just to see it.â
ââŠMay you find your way home, dragon rider⊠And safely.â

You woke to the usual clanging of pots and pans as breakfast was being cooked. Kiliâs hand was still on your waist and his arm was still your pillow, though you were sure itâd gone numb in the night. You gently placed your hand on his cheek and tenderly ran your thumb over his delicate cheek bone. He looked so handsome sleeping beside you, it made you smile like a giddy little schoolgirl. You regretted having to remove yourself from his warm embrace, but you had to start packing your things and getting ready for the day. A much easier task now that you didnât have to worry about your hair. When you were finished and your bag was neatly packed, you woke Kili.
He stretched his arms above his head then his eyes popped open, âGood morning!â, he sat up energized and ready to conquer the day.
âGood morning!â You replied with a kind smile, ever impressed by his liveliness in the mornings, âStart packing, Bomburâs almost finished breakfast.â
He shuffled about beside you while you worked on the last half of your bracelet, waiting for breakfast.
The porridge was the usual white sludge meant for nutrients, not flavor. You rinsed the dishes in the river with Kiliâs animated storytelling as you usually did after meals. Thorin had the company moving out when you returned.
The dayâs walk was very scenic, mostly idyllic forests with little rivers, where the lighting truly brought it all together. You walked between Kili and Fili so they could give you the basic run-down of sword handling and bowmanship.
By the end of midday, the company was on the border of the forest and a field. Thorin decided to make camp there and told Gloin to make the fire while Nori, Bifur, and Oin set traps in the forest to restock the reserves or something, you werenât listening, too focused on Kiliâs hand in yours as he led you somewhere.
The extra sparkle in his gorgeous brown eyes told you he was very excited to teach you about archery. As the resident Archer, no one (his brother) could compete for your attention by correcting him. He was also excited to watch you use his bow and his arrows; an honor bestowed upon an extremely select group.
Kili was very protective of his bows, not just because of the time it takes to make such an incredibly valuable weapon, but because one time in his youth he worked for weeks carving a brand-new bow from solid wood, making the string by hand, and engraving runic talismans into the handle. He worked very hard on that bow; Only to have one of his snot-nosed neighbors snatch it from him while they were playing and accidentally snap it in half after a misstep. Kili was furious, absolutely inconsolable. Fili had to drag him from the scene of the crime to the forest just behind their family house, so he didnât hunt the kid down and destroy him. He didnât say anything to Fili, just cursed and milled about the clearing in frustration. At first, his brother didnât know what he was doing, concerned he was setting a malicious trap for the offending child (such a spiteful trap was almost sprung after another incident of the same nature); but as Fili silently watched, out of armâs punching reach of course, he realized his brother was just looking for a piece of wood to make a new bow. Fili built a fire to keep the chill of the setting sun at bay, not wanting to abandon his brother to the coming night. He watched the younger mumble curses in dwarfish as he whittled the wood seemingly in his own little world. Kili hadnât really taken notice of the fire his brother built despite using its light and occasionally throwing more wood on out of habit while he stayed up all night to make the string and engrave the handle. Their mother, Dis, saw them through the window in the back door in the middle of the night. Fili was sitting on the ground, relaxed, leaning against a tree while he watched his brother on the other side of the blazing fire, Kili was sitting on a rock hunched over his bow as it came together. Dis knew from that moment Fili would always look after his little brother, or at the very least try his best. The craftsmanship of the bow he made that night was nowhere near his previous bow, but it could still shoot the straightest arrow in the village. It would do till he grew again and needed a bigger one.
Kili brought you a few yards away from the camp, out of ear shot but not out of sight. After the crash course in archery during the dayâs walk, you were as prepared as you could be. And excited as ever. Kili carved a target into the trunk of a tree with his dagger, not worried about losing misfired arrows in the underbrush because the fletching on the end of all his arrows were bright yellow.
He situated you both at a reasonable distance from the target and demonstrated again how to place your fingers on the string and what position to be in when you pull the string back. When he handed you the bow you were not expecting it to be as heavy as it was. Without an arrow, you tried to pull the string back like he showed but you couldnât move it. You looked at Kili.
âJust pull it back Y/N.â He encouraged, with a proud little smile.
âI am, Kee,â you said still straining to pull it. It wouldnât budge. He thought for a moment, trying to figure out what could be wrongâAh! He got it!
âHere, let me help.â He came up and stood behind you. âThe draw weight for my bow must be too high for you,â he said into your ear, his low hushed tone not going unnoticed as he got into position. He shuffled his legs behind yours and placed his hand below yours on the handle and his fingers above and below your slimmer, softer ones on the string. They were much stronger and much thicker than yours. Two of your fingers were the same width as one of his, a thought that quickly had you blushing. The irresistible mental image of moaning out for him while being deliciously stretched around his capable digits as he cooed praises, was nearly too much. You thanked god he was behind you and couldnât see your bright red face.
He let you do most of the work pulling the bowstring to allow you to get a feel for the mechanics and amount of potential energy the movement created.
âAndâŠâ he made sure you were ready, âRelease.â
You both let go of the string at the same time.
âPerfect! Now letâs try it with an arrowâ He got one from the quiver on his back and handed it to you.
You nocked the arrow like he taught you then got into position. He helped you pull the string back like before, allowing you to control the aim.
âReadyâŠâ You said to him this time, âRelease!â
The arrow flew across the field and landed smack in the middle of the bullseye.
âNo way,â Kili said in complete disbelief. You both went over to inspect the target. Sure enough, the arrow was deep in the carved center circle of the tree.
âThatâs amazing Y/N!â He turned to you with the biggest smile youâd ever seen. You were as happy as him, jumping up and down excitedly.
âI want to try again!â You walked over to your previous spot and lined yourself up, waiting for him to join you. He chuckled at your enthusiasm and grabbed another arrow on the way over. You repeated the process like a practiced dance, enjoying more than anything that he was your partner. He allowed you to aim again, but this time the arrow didnât hit its mark or the tree at all; It planted itself firmly into the leaf-covered underbrush.
âAwe,â you pouted, âI rushed, next time Iâll take my time.â You went to grab another arrow from his quiver, accidentally getting your face in his. For a moment, you could feel the heat of his lips and his breath tumbling over onto your own in a near ragged pant.
When you backed away you both politely laughed it off, though you could have sworn he leaned closer to you in that brief moment.
You shot all the arrows he had in his quiver. A handful hit the target, and a few even got close to the bullseye, but none hit the center like the first. Being a good coach, he encouraged and teased when the time was right. Â
Once again in your own little world, it was like nothing mattered except him. His radiant smile, his contagious laughter, his excitability; it was all consuming. As the day wore on, your arms got tired, and you were ready for a break. You helped him collect the arrows in and around the tree, so he could show off for a bit like boys do for pretty girls. He did trick shots and action shots and even pinned the pinecone you threw for him to the tree. His skills were very impressive. Your return to the camp was met with impressed exclamations.
âWas that a bullseye on the first shot?!â Bofur asked, having seen the miracle even from the other side of the camp.
âAye!â You said excitedly, proud of your accomplishment. You didnât even realize that you were beginning to use their dialect.
âGood job lass!â Oin said, along with the others happily celebrating with you.
After all that training, you were hungry for a snack. You rummaged through your bag in search of the grapes you had foraged with Bilbo the day before. They werenât in your bag where you left them, carefully wrapped in your old T-shirt.
âThey couldnât have fallen outâ you thought as you scanned the camp for the thief, already having an idea of the culprit. You stopped when your eyes fell on Kili across the camp, leaning against a tree with a shit-eating grin as he popped a grape into his mouth.
You were livid. It was a total invasion of your only private property: your bag, and you felt extremely violated.
You couldnât say anything to the offending dwarf or even look at him in fear of your rage exploding onto him. Your anger evident from your expression, the camp fell silent as you walked to Kili.
That feeling in Kiliâs chest sunk to his boots when he saw how angry you were; he knew heâd gone too far. You snatched the grapes from his hand and walked (stomped) into the field beyond the camp.
âY/N waitââ he tried to follow you into the field.
âNOT NOW KILIâ you snapped at him over your shoulder in a tone he didnât quite think you were capable of. He stopped in his tracks at your tone, the same one his mother used when she was very cross with him. The other members of the company who heard the commotion snickered at Kiliâs self-inflicted misfortune.
You sat in the field, soaking up the sunshine and eating your grapes while you calmed down. Kili moped around camp like an abandoned puppy; it was quite a pitiful sight.
When you finished your snack, you took a few deep breaths to get the anger from your system and allow your thoughts to come together to properly explain to Kili why you were so mad. The youngest Durin hesitantly joined you in the field when he saw you were done with your grapes, his footfalls crunching the grass beneath him alerting you to his presence. He sat next to you clearly a little nervous by how he picked at the grass.
âIâm sorry,â he said, looking at the ground. âIt was just supposed to be a joke, honest,â
âJoke or not, Kili Durin, you shouldnât have gone through my stuff!â You wanted to make sure he understood how unhappy his actions made you. He cringed at his full name. âYou violated the only sliver of privacy I have out here!â
âSorry, Y/N,â he said in a regretful voice youâd never heard from him before. âI shouldnât have gone through your bag.â
You sighed and looked over at him. âI forgive you Kee,â You took another deep breath, satisfied heâd learned his lesson, âJust donât do it again, ok?â
He smiled, happy to be back on good terms with you, âI wonât, I promiseâ. You smiled too, his infectious charm melting what little remained of your anger. You gave him a hug, knowing you both needed physical reassurance.
He sat with you in the field for a while, content to stay in comfortable silence. Youâd been eyeing a beautiful patch of flowers a few feet away since youâd sat down. You shifted so you were laying on your stomach to get a closer look at their vibrant hues and decided you wanted to use them, but how? Kili moved next to you, mirroring our position, to see what you were looking at. Then inspiration struck.
âIâll braid them into your hair!â You said excitedly. He gave you a look of surprised confusion.
âWhat?! No!â he was immediately against the idea and even backed away from you as if youâd jump on him any second like his brother might. âWhy donât I put them in your hair instead? Theyâd look much better on you.â He desperately tried to come up with a reason to avoid the inevitable onslaught of mocking heâd have to endure if he agreed to your plan.
You brought yourself to a kneel so you could look him dead in the eyes with a blank expression, âPussy,â you said.
He scoffed and got all huffy and puffy, âI am not a pussy!â He said defensively, his cute accent got thicker when he was flustered, it made it so hard to take him seriously, âI just think the flowers would make you even more beautiful than you already are.â
You blushed deeply at his words and looked away from his charming little smile to keep your thoughts from a more baser mindset and to think over his offer. He started twirling the end of one of the braids heâd done the night before between his fingers. It was a sweet and absentminded motion, to which you relented with a sigh, âAlright, but you have to teach me how to use a sword after.â
âDeal!â He gave a hearty nod. You got your hair stuff from your bag and your bracelet to work on and hopefully finish while Kili did your hair. You picked the prettiest flowers and put them in the extra fabric of your shirt like a delicate basket. He dragged over a stone to sit on and got to work undoing the braids and brushing your hair out.
You didnât realize how tight heâd made the braids till the tension was released from your scalp. You sighed in pleasured relief as he moved your hair around with the brush. That sound immediately pricked his ears.
âDoes that feel good, princess?â He looked down at you and smiled as he massaged the sore parts of your head. You were too lost in the feeling his skilled hands were creating to react to the pet name.
Once he massaged the soreness away, he parted your hair and began braiding. Kili had a vision of what he wanted to do to your hair. He wanted a thick band like a crown around the top of your head and four small thin braids scattered across the rest of your loose unbraided hair.
You were on an entirely different plane of existence. You felt so calm and relaxed and taken care of with his undivided attention, it was like nothing youâd ever felt before. His tranquil voice when he asked for a flower every now and then was the only thing you could hear. It felt like you were floating, your body sun warmed and peaceful.
When Kili was putting on the finishing touches, Fili came and joined you in the field to see what you both were doing, sadly pulling you from your lovely state of mind.
âKili wouldnât let me put flowers in his hair.â You pouted after the older brother inquired about your change in hairstyle.
âEven after he rummaged through your bag!â Fili feigned offense on your behalf with a smirk as he laid on his side in front of you both propped up on his elbow.
âShut up, Filiâ Kili huffed, ashamed of his previous actions, as he carded his fingers through your loose hair to make sure it was laying properly.
âAwe, Kiwiâs embawwassed,â you said in a baby-talk voice, making you and Fili laugh a little.
Kili stopped combing his fingers through your hair and tangled them in the loose hair at the back of your head. He pulled your head down to make you look up at him looming over you. He was about to say something, but the inadvertent dominating gesture caused an involuntary moan to slip past your lips, stalling any thoughts he tried to voice.
You were both stuck in that trance for just a moment, yet it took an eternity to pass. He was unable to look away from your pleasure pinched eyebrows and slightly parted panting lips. You were captivated by his handsome blushing features and the fire in his eyes. You wanted so desperately to kiss him, to meet his lips in heated passion.
âGood gods you two,â Fili rolled his eyes. His sudden interruption snapped Kili back to reality so he could release your hair. âGet a room,â Fili finished his statement.
âShut up, Fili,â you both said in unison with faces equally ablaze and eyes cast anywhere but at each other. The elder just looked at you two and laughed to himself, he knew at that moment you were both madly in love.
âHereâs your brush, Y/N.â Kili handed it to you, wanting to change the subject.
âYes, thank youâ You took it from him and hastily returned your bag to camp. You met Kili back in the field for sword training. His brother was still there passively observing (waiting till he had to step in to correct the younger as this was not Kiliâs area of expertise).
Bilbo allowed you to borrow his sword so you could get an idea of what a properly fitted one felt like without your wrists being torn to shreds by the other much heavier swords of the company. Kili walked you through basic moves and positions to teach you how to make your weapon like an extension of your own body. When he tried to speed up the movements and have you come at him in mock battle, you faltered and messed up the arrangement of poses.
When this happened, Fili of course would step in with a simplified version to help you. Before long, you had an audience, and the watchful eyes and extensive fighting prowess of Thorin and Dwalin. Kili was no longer the teacher but the sentient-sparing mannequin. The sequence of positions and movements became longer the more you worked at it. It felt amazing to be capable of so much. You knew it was just choreography, but it made you better now than you were before.
You were beginning to sweat under your thick tunic. The physical exertion was getting to Kili as well. When you took a water break you removed your shirt, the coffee brown padded camisole you wore underneath being far more breathable, but much tighter than your usual outerwear. It left hardly anything to the imagination.
Your less-dressed return to the now-stamped-down grass of the makeshift training area was met with impressed exclamations, wolf whistles, and light applause. You blushed and pretended to be a fashion model at the end of a runway. They found it very amusing.
Kili came back wondering what the commotion was about.
He saw you waiting for him. You hadnât noticed him approaching yet, too busy putting on a silly little show. He loved seeing you like this, confident and carefree, not worrying about how you looked and focusing on something that was far more rewarding: having fun. He used the few seconds you were distracted to admire you. Your half up half down hair heâd just braided and styled, was blowing softly in the wind, and your short unruly baby hairs were matted to your sweaty forehead framing your face. Your camisole highlighted the alluring curve from your ribs to your hips. The hem of the fabric was ridding up on your waist, revealing just a sliver of your lower tummy. Your pants kept where they were, hugging tight to your thighs and bottom.
âTwo can play that gameâ Kili thought, not even trying to hide his mischievous smile. He took his shirt off and threw it in his bag.
You looked up and saw him coming to meet you. The long bangs that framed his face were clinging to it now from his perspiration. He was smirking, knowing he caught you slightly off guard. His prominent pectoral muscles bled into his strong thick arms. His waist tapered at his hips where his pants were beginning to ride low, revealing his defined adonis belt in its retreat. He exuded power as he walked towards you with his arms out a bit from his side, and his palms facing you, as if he were challenging you.
âOhho, itâs serious now, is it?â you said over a light chuckle, feigning being taken aback by his friendly challenge.
âOh, it sure is.â He returned your light laugh and with a smug expression he tapped his sword against yours where it hung at your side. He knew he was flustering you. He could see it in the deepened flush that colored your cheeks and how your thumb picked at the leather-covered hilt of your sword.
You had to bite the inside of your lip rather hard to keep your eyes above his exposed shoulders. It had been so long since youâd felt so physically and mentally attracted to someone. The way he was looking at you made your panties dampen at the scandalous thoughts that his honeyed chocolate eyes made race through your head.
If Thorin hadnât said, âReady positionsâ, in that barking tone of his, youâd have jumped Kiliâs bones and rode him off into the sunset.
You both got into the starting positions you preferred. Thorin shouted âCommenceâ in Dwarfish. Kili came at you with harsh blows, which you perfectly countered like youâd been taught. You were able to quickly move yourself, so you were standing at his side. You took the opening and swung for his exposed ribs, but he easily blocked your attack. You pressed your blade against his to force him back and give up some ground. He stood steadfast in his heavy boots, however, and pushed back against you, getting his face close to yours to tease you.
âGood job, you remembered how to keep your grip on the sword.â He said with mock celebration. You gritted your teeth, determined to keep your footing. He glanced at your lips where your teeth were worrying your lower lip; A habit he noticed when you were focused or nervous.
âIâve been taught well, Archer.â You shot back, as suave as you could manage under the conditions. He threw you back so he could reset his stance.
âWeâll see about that, IbinĂȘ,â he said, flustering you again with that mischievous grin as his native language easily rolled off his tongue.
You charged at him, and your blades collided with a loud metallic clang. Your sudden advance surprised him, he backed up a few steps. Cheers came from your audience.
âIbinĂȘ?â You strained while your blades met again in a brute force pressing match. âWhat does that mean?â
Kili shoved you back and swiftly turned around, a trick he hadnât yet revealed in your spar. He abandoned his blade somewhere off to the side and spun around again but crouched in his movement so he could swipe your legs from beneath you. You fell to the ground with a muted thud, your weapon knocked from your grasp. Kili scrambled to straddle your hips, pinning down your legs with his and your wrists above your head. You tried to fight against him, but his strength and weight are much greater than yours.
He panted above you, smiling like a cat who got the canary, âIf only it were you straddling me,â he whispered under his breath and winked at you discreetly. Your chest was heaving, making your breasts ebb and flow with the rhythm. The erotic tension was palpable between you.
âWe have a victor!â someone said from the sidelines to break your daze. Kili blushed and stood and helped you from the ground. Your audience clapped a little then dispersed to the camp a few feet away.
You leisurely walked away from the encampment along the edge of the forest to catch your breath. The extra sway in your hips and a casual glance over your shoulder enticed Kili to follow you. He walked beside you. You looked up at him delighted he got the hint and followed you. He leaned over to say in a voice that was deeper than normal, âIbinĂȘ means my gem.â His words took a moment to register, a delayed blush colored your chest and neck.
He bit his lip as a thought played behind his eyes. Growing bold from the adrenaline still in his veins, he wrapped his hand around yours. He picked up speed till he was running with you trailing behind. He took you far from the others. The sun was setting, painting the sky in those vivid colors that only dusk and dawn brought.
Kili slowed to a stop and used his grip on your hand to bring you in front of him. He took a step into your personal space.
âLabathmizi means I adore you.â He gingerly placed his hand on your cheek like he was handling the thinnest, most precious glass in the world. You were blushing profusely, your gaze danced from his eyes to his lips. âAbnĂąmulzi means you are beautiful.â He pecked his lips against yours for a moment then backed you against a tree and pinned you against it with his strong hand on your hip. The prolonged eye contact was making you pant. His voice was low and rough with arousal, âAzralizi du-nĂąmrul, IbinĂȘâŠâ His head ducked down so his lips brushed against yours. ââŠmeans I want to fuck you, my gem.â He pressed his lips to yours in a kiss that surpassed any expectation you had. You lifted your leg over his hip, his hand went from your hip to your thigh, an encouraging movement, and it felt like it was searing into your cloth covered skin. It slid up to your ass cheek and urged you to grind against him. Your hand was on his bare shoulder and the other tangled in his hair, scratching and pulling lightly on the soft brown tresses at the nap of his neck. You whimpered as his hardening member pressed against your soaking core. Kili met your movements, making himself hiss at the delicious friction you were both craving.
When you broke the kiss for air as lust flooded your mind and loins, âThatâs really hotâ was all you could manage.
You were becoming addicted to his kiss. The way his thumb would glide against your cheek and the soft, barely there little whimpers he was making as you deepened the kiss were driving you mad with need. His tongue won its fight against yours when he gyrated his hips perfectly to grind into you, causing a moan to bubble from you. When he broke away, he looked at you, panting.
He suddenly went silent and perfectly still. His eyebrows pinched in a sudden focused confusion as he looked past the tree you were pinned to. This immediately concerned you.
You opened your mouth to ask if he was ok, but he put his finger to his lips to silence you. He closed his eyes and turned his head to focus on something; dwarfs and their connection to the environment around them still confused you.
His eyes shot open in a panic, and he tore himself away from you so he could pick you up bridal style.
You clung to him as he broke out in a sprint back to camp, âA pack of orcâs are coming.â Â

How the Dwarfs show PDA
Thorins company x gn!reader
Warnings: an insane amount of fluff, implied smut
Thorin
Being the King of Erebor meant that he had a lot of responsibility on his plate. Even before the Dwarfs defeated Smaug and reclaimed Erebor, he wasnât overly affectionate publicly; that didnât change once he re-built his kingdom. Kissing is a no go, but instead he would just always have you hold onto his arm as you walked, or vise versa. But when youâre alone in your shared chambers, its like he canât get enough of you. Thats when he always makes up for the lack of attention and affection that he canât openly show like he wants to, but if he sees someone flirting with you then thats thrown out of the window; literally. He will pull you up onto his throne and make-out with you infront of everyone if he wants to⊠and he has⊠many times. But most of the time; not very into PDA.
FĂli
Like his Uncle, he has a lot of responsibilities since heâs the heir to the throne. But he doesnât let that stop him. Once heâs done with his daily duties as the prince of Erebor, he gives you his undivided attention and affection. He always makes sure youâre able to stretch your legs, so he usually like to take late night walks through the mines as you two attempt to not be seen by the guards. One time though you did get caught doing⊠something. But thatâs a story for another day and time. Sometimes he will literally just slip away from the meetings to go and be with you but only if KĂli is there to cover for him. He doesnât have a problem with showing you how much he adores and loves you, even if that means getting his head chewed off by Thorin for skipping his royal duties.
KĂli
This man is literally the definition of PDA. He doesnât have as many duties as his brother so he gets to spend his free time with you. He doesnât care who watches you two as you walk through the halls of Erebor with his arm tucked tight around your shoulders; paired with a proud grin on his face that reads âyeah thats right theyâre mineâ. He doesnât care if his Uncle scolds him for it, youâre his one. He tends to pepper kisses all over your face at random times, which inturn makes you incredibly flustered, sometimes his own brother has to pry him off of you. Heâs just a lovey-dovey type of boyfriend and he is not afraid to show it to the whole Kingdom of Erebor.
Dwalin
Not a fan of PDA at all. However, if he sense that youâre having an off day, or if he sees someone openly flirting with youâŠ. well then itâs like heâs a whole new person. Heâll pull you into his chest as he rubs circles on your back, giving the person that was attempting to flirt with you a death glare and grinning when he watches them basically shit their pants and scramble away. If its the scenario where youâre having an off day he will find someone to cover for him most of the time with a threat before taking you back to your shared house as he gives you his undivided attention and affection. All in all; this man can quickly become the worlds biggest simp for you.
Bofur
Like KĂli, heâs the definition of PDA. As soon as he gets home from work heâs all over you; literally. He will physically jump on top of you if youâre ignoring him, especially after a long day in the mines. Which usually leads to you forcing him to get up off of you so you can fix him a bath. Even when youâre doing that, his hands are wrapped around your waist as his chin rests on top of your head. In public it doesnât change, his fingers are laced with yours and heâs constantly finding an excuse to kiss you. You have something on your lips? Kiss. You turn to look at him? Kiss. He wants your attention? Multiple kisses. He just adores showing you how much he loves and cherishes you, even during the journey to reclaim Erebor.

From Paper to Reality
Thorin Oakenshield x Female Reader
Content & Warnings: pranks & practical jokes, established relationship, haunted houses, festivals, married couple that still flirts, fluff
Word Count: 820
A/N: Requested by @protosslady for 3.5k Spooky Bingo (Haunted House)
Thorin brings your idea to life.
ao3 // taglist // main masterlist // 3.5k spooky bingo masterlist
"You're terrible, Thorin."
"It'll help them grow their beards."
You smile at your husband, and at the parchment on the table. When Thorin came to you with the idea, you thought it silly. But after plenty of convincing, you agreed to help him, but only with the planning. Your design is perfect, but it's Thorin's job to execute it.
"The lads are always teasing each other about the ghosts in the Mines. Daring each other to go in when the workers leave. They claim they arenât afraid.â
"You're terrorizing children now?"
Thorin shoots you a look and you grin, knowing you've caught him.
"Just a bit of fun," shrugs Thorin.
You nod. "It'll be open to everyone. It is a festival."
"Yes. But I want them to go in together. If they're to eventually brave battle, they need to face their fears."
"By scaring them, Thorin?"
"Hardly."
You hold your hands up in a placating gesture. "If anything goes wrong. It's on you."
"Nothing will go wrong. If anything, they'll come out the other side a bit braver than before."
"Children grow by trying through failure and encouragement," you reply. "Scaring the wits out of them seems a bit...excessive."
"They might be children but they're hardly wee lads anymore. A bit of fear isn't so bad."
"They're your nephews, Thorin. Is DĂs aware of this?"
Thorin shrugs, but doesn't exactly look you in the eye when he answers. "My sister knows."
You're not going to shove yourself between siblings. Thorin loves DĂs. Adores her. And he adores his nephews, but he isn't a father. At least, not yet. Not that the two of you haven't been trying.
"I'll leave you to it," you reply, backing away from Thorin's desk.
His personal office in your shared chambers is spacious, full of books and scrolls along with tools and weapons.
"Don't want to stay?" he asks with a sly smile.
You know his meaning, and warmth floods your cheeks. "I have things to do, Thorin."
"Am I one of those things?"
You laugh and smack at his chest. Thorin grabs your wrist and pulls you in, stealing a kiss.
"Show me when it's done," you say, departing.
"This is...amazing!"
Your layout and ideas have completely come to life. Youâre in awe of it, and of how quickly Thorin put it all together.
Thorin beams with pride. "Can't take all the credit. But I'd like to."
"Will you walk me through?" you ask, grasping Thorin's bicep.
"Want the full experience?" he asks.
"Yes!"
Thorin turns and nods toward two dwarves standing nearby. One pulls a lever. You hear clanking and then fog rolls out from the entrance.
Whenever harvest season ends for the citizens of Dale, a large festival is held. The dwarves participate, often doing their own activities. While food and drink are largely consumed, it's mostly a time to reflect on the coming colder days that are shorter and darker. In Dale, there is always some sort of maze for spooks and scares. Couples typically venture in, but it's usually enjoyable for everyone.
Thorin wanted to make his own this year simply to tease his nephews.
"You've outdone yourself," you say to Thorin.
"Haven't even seen inside yet."
Wrapping your arm in his, Thorin guides the two of you inside. At first, it is dark, but small lights illuminate the floor, giving you just enough light to see the path. The rest is in shadow.
A brief bout of anxiety grips your chest as the two of you round a corner. Before you is another corner. A tight turn. The space is narrow, the makeshift wall rubbing against your arm as the two of you take the turn.
At the next turn, the light dims, and the fog increases. Something moves in the dark, and you instinctively move closer to Thorin.
"Watch," he murmurs, as two glowing red eyes appear and then disappear back into the dark.
"What is that?" you whisper.
"Two rubies lit in a lantern. It's on a gear that covers the light when it hits a certain groove."
"Impressive."
Thorin guides you through the rest. At each scare, Thorin pauses to explain to it. The fake skeletons were all casted with clay, and the rags came from donations. The hanging vines and branches were all collected and strung together by some of the minersâ wives. There are plenty of straightforward frights, and others that are more thought out and subtle.
By the end, a tingling thrill radiates throughout your body.
"Thoughts?" asks Thorin as you emerge back into the light.
"I think you'll scare them."
"Think?" Thorin observers you, his gaze roaming up and down your body. "Look at you. You're clinging to me," teases Thorin.
"Hardly," you retort, loosening your grip on his arm.
Thorin laughs and pulls you right back. "Tell me your thoughts."
"I think you'll scare more than your nephews."

My Sweet Valentine ~ Kili x Human!Reader
A/N: So yesterday I asked who shall receive a lil love on this day and Kili won!! So here ya go it is literally just a tiny little short one shot but its smth :)
âą ËËË Warnings: fluff àżàŸ âą ËËË Words: 424 àżàŸ âą ËËË Request: No :) àżàŸ âą ËËË AmrĂąlimĂ© ~ My Love àżàŸ
Summary: You spent your morning hours with the wonderful dwarf prince Kili
Soft fingers stroked your cheek gently, making you stir awake from your slumber. You see Kilis brown eyes fill with warmth, as you woke up beside him. After the two of you decided to court, you were basically inseparable. You even shared a bedroom with the prince, which of course he doesnât mind.
âGood morning AmrĂąlimĂ©. Did you sleep well?â A smile graced your lips, as his groggy morning voice filled your ears. âHow could I ever sleep bad beside you my love?â Your arms snaked tighter around him. Head on his chest you listened to his heartbeat. Chuckling at your words, he gave you a gentle kiss on the top of your head.
âWell if we consider yesterday-â Your hand slapped at his chest playfully to stop him from finishing his sentence. Yesterday was another one of the infamous festivities that are celebrated in Erebor. And of course you attended them with Kili by your side. So one thing led to the other and now you were waking up beside him, completely bare.âYou are such a tease.â You say while hiding the blush on your face by cuddling further into his chest.
One of his hands moved from your back to your head. His fingers nimbly brushed through your hair to get rid of knots while you hummed contently. You loved it when he played with your hair. And so did he. One of your favourite past time activities is braiding each otherâs hair. Sometimes you sing during these times. And sometimes Kili plays a few soft notes on the flute while you add cute accessories into his braid.
You remember the first time you braided his hair. You were on your journey to win Erebor back when you found beautiful wildflowers which you thought would look stunning in Kilis hair. So you asked him if you could do so. Which resulted in him suddenly getting really quiet and blushing a bit while nodding. After you have finished his braid he asked you if you knew what it meant to braid a dwarfs hair. And so he explained the customs of courting to you. Which in return coloured your cheeks red. He even offered you a courting bead.
The sudden kiss on your lips takes you back to your reality. Smiling softly you let your hands brush over his stubble. âI love you Kili.â You gave him another soft peck. A sigh left his lips, as he pulled you closer. âLet me show you how much I love you AmrĂąlimĂ©.â

Imagine: They know you canât sleep at night
Thorin, FĂli, KĂli, Bilbo's reactions when you can't sleep well during the journey.
[ đ Main Imagines Masterlist đ ]
Used to camping or not, sleeping outside in Middle-earth was something else than sleeping in your late comfortable bed in your world.Â
Thorin
Even though Thorin clearly noticed youâre tired every day, there is nothing he can do. Too many things to worry and think on this journey before looking after you. Gandalf wanted you to join them, so he has to take care of you.
Except that the wizard is always lost in his thoughts and doesnât notice your tiredness, or you hide it well.Â
In truth, travelling on a pony is not tiring, especially because you always share it with a member of the company and they know how to keep you awake with their fun story or songs.Â
Not sleeping the night, otherwise, itâs more tiring! The East Road is harder and colder than you thought. And of course, you donât have any modern, comfortable material. Who could sleep on this ground with just a blanket under you and another on you?
But, you donât want to trouble anyone so you stay quiet about it. Everyone has other things to do than babysit youâŠ
One day, at the surprise of everyone, Thorin offers to share his pony with you. To give the other ponies a rest, he said. As you donât want to argue and youâre quite happy to ride with him â even if itâs embarrassing â you do as he said and sit before him.
As Thorin rides in the front, you canât hear what the others say. Luckily, itâs not raining so itâs calm and peaceful. You can admire the landscape while Thorin manages the ponyâs reins.
At some point, you wake up in a startle. Thorin just has the time to slip an arm around your waist to avoid you from falling. âOh, Iâm so sorry!â you hurry to say, looking around you and noticing thanks to the sun that you slept for a while. âI shouldnât fall asleep!âÂ
Your cheeks are burning, but you feel so well-rested now. Maybe itâs because of his comfortable, fluffy coat, or the peaceful atmosphere, or his warming, relaxing smellâŠ
âStop moving or you will fall,â he sighs as he holds you tighter to him. âI-Iâm sorry!ïżœïżœ is the only thing you can say.
âWeâll stop in two hours,â he says as you understand he means you can sleep again. âBut, I donât want to bother you. What if I fall and take you down with me?â you murmur as you feel his arm around you adjusting, making you blush, of course.
âI hold you. Donât worry about it,â he murmurs in a regal, convincing voice. Then, as you lean against him like before, you fall quickly asleep. Maybe riding with him was the best solution so that you can restâŠ
N/A: Or sleeping with him on the ground. We can easily find other solutions, right?
FĂliÂ
Since you had left the Shire with everyone, some nights were more tiring than others. Hard, cold and wet ground is not your favourite thing, but you could have recovered in a few inn, or in great places like Rivendell or Beornâs house.
But after that, Mirkwood is quite a challenge. The nights are almost totally dark with weird noises and a feeling of always being watched. Youâre not scared because the company is close to you, especially FĂli since he decided the forest wasnât safe enough to let you alone even for a minute.
So when the spiders attack, you donât have the strength to defend yourself. When the elves capture you, itâs the same. I think you're the last person they capture since they know you won't do anything. Very embarrassingâŠ
Woman or not, you're thrown in a dungeon like the dwarves, no special treatment! The place is not comfortable but itâs dry and no sooner do you lie down than you fall asleep.
âLet me see her!â âShe may hurt!â âItâs a woman, donât let her in this place!â You wake up, still tired like when you have slept for too long and your body doesn't know where it stands. You hear FĂli yelling from a cell far away from you. You don't know how long he's been shouting, but his voice sounds tired.
As you start to wake up, you hear your doorâs cell opening and someone entering quickly. FĂli knells before you and puts his hand slowly on your upper arm. âI was just sleeping, FĂli. Iâm fine,â you smile as you sit up slowly.
FĂli hugs you suddenly, his mouth coming closer to your ear. âI know you were sleeping but I needed to see you,â he whispered, holding you tightly. âI know you need sleeping but I didnât know if you were hurt, and those elvesââÂ
âIâm fine,â you cut him off before he gets angry. âAnd Iâm safer here than in the forest.âÂ
You laugh until you notice youâre the one one. FĂli ends the hug and looks at you, âYouâre safe only when I'm with you. I will stay here with you. Now you can go back to sleep as much as you need.â
âThanksâŠâ you can only say, too embarrassed by his words as you lie down, looking for his hand to hold. Now he is with you, you truly feel comfortable to sleep for days.
N/A: Oh, itâs more fluffy than I planned. đ
KĂliÂ
âYou can sleep between us tonight if you want,â KĂli says one day after he saw you yawn several times in the afternoon, winking with mischief. He caught up with you on his pony with his brother not far behind.Â
âMaybe in your dreams,â you answer with a smirk, making everyone who heard you laugh. Even Bilbo smiles.Â
But little did you know that your answer would trigger a new form of amusement for the dwarf. Not a day went by without a similar remark when he saw you yawning. And as you donât sleep well on a hard, cold ground, you yawn a lotâŠ
You always laughed with him, inventing new answers making the others laugh, until your tiredness almost cost your life. After the trolls' exhausting night, you decide to sit down against a tree while the company explores the trollsâ cave. After a night like that, you could rest anywhere. So even if you didnât want it, you fell asleep. Itâs only when Radagast arrives that you wake up.Â
Half awake, you hardly understand what is happening. When the company starts to run, you try to follow them but all the fatigue you have accumulated over the last few days is making your movements slow and difficult. Some dwarves want to help you but Thorinâs yellings convince them to continue to run. You notice a few arrows flying next to you, killing the orcs closest to you until you end up alone in the middle of nowhere. A few orcs notice you and quickly run after you. Even if you look around you, there are no traces or voices of the company, only the yells of the orcs.
At this moment, you only have your hands to defend yourself, or your feet to run. But Mahal, Yavanna or any god from here had decided otherwise. A group of elves on horses arrive just in time to save you. They bring you to Rivendell where the company is regrouping in a circle.Â
During the conversation between Gandalf and Elrond, the latter helps you get off his horse. Gandalf smiles like you never saw and before you can say anything you feel two strong arms pulling you in a hug. Before you can say anything, you hear in a trembling almost crying voice, âI thought I lost you!â. Some incomprehensible words follow with quiet cries. You donât know how to react so just close your arms on the dwarf you have recognised as KĂli, stroking his back to calm him.
âIâm fine,â you say with a smile as you look at the company, all still worried about you. âIâm a burden. You had no choice but to abandon me.â
âDonât say that!â KĂli shouts as he pulls back to see you, his eyes still wet and red. âYouâre not a burden! You were only tired and we left you aloneâŠâ He suddenly cups your two cheeks and pulls your forehead against his. âI promise we wonât abandon you again! And youâll sleep next to FĂli and me every night! No negotiation!â
You canât help but laugh at his attitude while you hear his brother sigh as he shakes his head.
N/A: I made him cry again. Oops! đ
Bilbo
The ground is hard and cold at night. The morning dew is coverding you every morning. You donât remember the last time you bathed. But well, do you have any other choice?
Oh yes, you have thought of walking back and to the Shire, but you canât abandon them. So you stay quiet, enjoying the journey anyway. The days, when there is no rain, are fun. The company is fun and enjoyable.
However, there is one who doesn't mind complaining! Recently, a day hasn't gone by without Bilbo asking to stop at an inn. At first, he was asking politely, but now he just grumbles when the night falls.
Itâs always a funny situation, especially when a dwarf hears him. âWeâre sorry the ground is not to your taste, Mr Baggins,â some of them say. âDo you want some feathers for your pillow, Mr Baggins?â asked one of them when they plucked birds for the evening meal.
Of course, you try to hide your laugh, but Bilbo saw you every time. As you're in the same situation as him, you don't want to laugh, but the dwarves' remarks are always so unexpected that it's hard to hold back. So to take his mind off the situation, the two of you often have a chat before sleeping - even if you're a long way from sleeping.Â
Yet, one day, Thorin decides to stop in a town to buy supplies and allows everyone to stay at the inn. As you have no money, you share your room with Gandalf and as no dwarf wants to share their rooms with Bilbo, he joins yours.
We wonât lie. Itâs the best night for so long. A warm bath, wine with your meal, a bed. You even forget how comfortable a bed can be! Your room is far from what you used to in your world but it looks perfect at this moment: warm, dry, and with a bed.
âThis is the best breakfast I ate for a long time!â you happily say in the next morning. âNo offence intended, Bombur.â The cook dwarf smiles, understanding what you mean. You devour your breakfast like the company next to you.
âDid you sleep well, Y/N?â FĂli asks, nudging his brother with a smile. âOh yes, very well,â you answer with your mouth full. âI was so tired, the timing was perfect! Iâm glad Thorin let us sleep here.â
âIâm sure it's not uncle you should thank,â KĂli says with a wink, making the other laugh. You stay a moment motionless, frowning in incomprehension. âDid you sleep well, Mr Baggins?â FĂli follows up, laughing at the hobbitâs reaction.
Bilbo was listening without a word until he heard his name, choking on his breakfast. As you all stayed in a Menâs inn, the furniture are too big for him and he had to put cushions under him to get to the table, bringing him to almost the same height as you. You quickly notice his cheeks becoming pink as your smile gets bigger. Oh, and donât lie. Your cheeks are pink too.Â
âOh, right! I should thank you, Bilbo,â you start, calling him by his first name as he had asked for a long time ago. You take his hand and squeeze it warmly, making his whole face pink. âI could never have slept in that bed if you hadn't asked so many times. I think I owe you.â
When Bilbo can speak again, he shakes his head, âNo no no. You owe me nothing. I-I need a bath and a bed too!â
Then the others laugh and start speaking of something while you watch the hobbit resume his breakfast. Maybe you need to find something to thank him, but what?Â
N/A: What would you give him to thank him? đ

âAll Iâm asking for is some time with you. I barely see you anymore,â you express sadly.
Thorin is aware of his absence from your side, and while he wishes he could spend every waking moment with you, the kingdom requires his attention too.
âThe kingdom is thriving under you rule. Since the war of the five armies you have not rested,â you say frustrated.
âAmrĂąlimĂȘ⊠please,â he pleads with you to understand.
You have been nothing but understanding to Thorin. He needed to put himself first.
âKing Thorin, youâre needed for a discussion regarding the trade,â one of the kingdoms advisers said interrupting you and Thorin.
You look away in defeat, you knew he would go to the discussion regardless.
He stepped toward you, but you retreated.
âYou should go,â
He can hear the defeat behind your words.
With one last look to you, he followed the dwarf.
âI thought after the war things would be better,â you tell Bofur as you help him in the kitchen.
âHis just doing what he believes is right,â Bofur tries to reason.
âHasnât he been doing that since the beginning?â you ask sadly.
Bofur smiles at you sadly.
âI think we should bake a cake,â Bofur suggested, he was trying to make you feel better and knew your love of sweet treats.
âThatâs a good idea,â you smiled at him and began to take out what you needed for baking.
âJust a little taste,â Thorin heard Kiliâs voice echoed through the halls.
âYou better not, I will wack you with this spoon,â he heard you threaten.
Growing curious at the commotion, he followed the source of the noise and came to the sight of you trying to pry Kili away from your mixing bowl.
âHello uncle,â Kili greeted.
You grew tense at his words and took that as your chance to continue mixing.
âWhatâs happening here?â his question was directed at you, but Kili answered.
âOur dearest y/n here is baking. She refuses for me to have a taste of the batter,â Kili complains.
âYou better stop worrying her before she really does wack you laddie,â Bofur chuckles as Kili swipes his finger into the batter.
You gasp and hit him upside the head.
âOw,â he rubs his head but enjoys eating the batter.
Your eyes finally meet Thorinâs eyes which hold longing in them.
âYour majesty,â you greet him by bowing your head.
Everyone in the kitchen freezes.
Not once have you ever addressed Thorin as that, he always made it known that you were his equal.
âEveryone out now,â
Everyone exits immediately. Just as youâre about to do the same, Thorinâs grip on your arm stops you.
âNot you amrĂąlimĂȘ,â
When he knows the other dwarves are out of ear shot, he turns you towards him and settles his hands on your waist, pulling you to him.
âYou know I see you as my equal,â he murmured and moved a few stray strands away from your face.
âIâm addressing you as what you are, our king,â you say with no emotion.
âPlease donât say it like that,â he says sadly.
âLike what?â you say sharply.
âLike that is all I am to you,â he shouts.
âIsnât that what you are?â you ask stubbornly.
He signs tiredly.
âTo everyone else, yes, but to you I am Thorin,â he leaned in and settled his forehead to yours.
You donât say anything else to him. He finds comfort in the silence and having you close to him.
âI miss you,â you whisper.
âIâm right here,â he insists pulling away.
âYes, but youâre not here,â you take his hand and settled it on your heart.
His own heart skips a beat.
âWhat are you saying?â he asked scared of what you might answer.
âIt feels as though I am not bound to you, as though youâre not my other half,â your words break with a sob.
Only then did he realise that you were crying.
âI am and always will be yours,â he assures you.
You canât take the overwhelming of emotions you are feeling, so you step away from Thorin for some space.
âMy heart has belonged to you since the beginning,â he says further.
âNo Thorin. Your heart belongs to the kingdom, and maybe Iâm being selfish in saying this, but I have not felt your love as of late,â
Thorin is rendered speechless by your words.
You knew your words hurt him, but this all youâve been feeling lately and Thorin needed to know if before it escalated to mahal knows that.
âI need to go. Excuse me,â you say wiping your tear and walking out of the kitchen.
Thorin stood there and knew what he needed to do.
It had been 3 days since you had been avoiding Thorin. You exited any room he stepped foot in and even used others as an excuse to avoid interacting with him.
âI never knew the kingdom had a library,â you say to Balin as he guided you through the old hallways.
âThe library has not been used since the time Thorinâs grandfathers ruled,â the door to the library had an emblem of ancient Dwarfish words.
âIâll let you explore it las,â Balin said respectfully bowing his head.
You thanked him as your ran your hand over the door.
Just by the sight of it, you knew it was made by non-other than the dwarves themselves. You had seen Thorin make many objects with the skills he attained.
You unconsciously reach for the courting bead occupying a braid in your hair. The very same one that Thorin made just for you.
With a sigh, you push the doors of the library open. It was dimly lit inside, but not enough for you to not be able to see.
The smell of vanilla surrounded you, the scent being your favourite.
You walk into the library and take in the sight of the shelves occupied with books that tell the many tales and history of dwarves, elves, men, and creatures alike.
As you linger along the bookshelves, the sound of shuffling captures your attention. You reached for the satchel around your waist and grab your dagger.
âWho is there?â you ask cautiously making your way toward the noise.
You hear the noise again. âShow yourself,â you demand.
Coming out with his hands raised in surrender is Thorin.
He is dressed in clothing he once wore in the blue mountain, not the royal attire that you found him in as of late.
You put your dagger away.
âWhy didnât you say it was you?â you ask annoyed.
âI wasnât sure if you would want to be in my company,â he answers.
You gawk at him.
Is he serious?
That is the opposite of what you wanted.
âThat is the last thing I would do,â you say and walk toward him.
You knew you couldnât avoid him forever, in fact you had only been avoiding him to gain a clear thought process from the events of the days before.
He smiles in appreciation when you stand in front of him.
âWhat do you think of my attire?â he asked with a raise of a brow.
âVery handsome,â you reply in the same tone as his.
âI thought you would be busy,â you say to him curiously.
âIt was about time Fili got some guidance in ruling the kingdom,â he casually states as he held his arm for you to take.
You loop in your arm in his and look to him questionably.
âI take it was no coincidence that Balin showed me the library then?â you ask.
âNo. I asked him to bring you here. I know you find solace amongst books,â he answered and led you further into the library.
You walk past bookshelves and come in sight of a couch fitted for two, beside it a table with a candle and a few books.
âI thought it would be fitting for me to show you some of my favourite books,â
He motions toward the couch for you to sit, he takes a book from the table before joining you.
You watched him in awe as he flips through the pages.
He can feel your eyes on him but does his best to avoid making eye contact with you.
âThis a story my mother would read me when I was little. Its about two dwarves who were in love but couldnât be together due to their familiesâ differences,â he tells you.
You look down to the book and see that it has illustrations of the story. You run your fingers up and down the page, Thorin intwines his fingers with yours.
âAmrĂąlimĂȘ. Since the day my mother first read me this story, I made a promise to forever love the dwarf I would one day come to love,â he said finally meeting your eyes.
âThorin-â youâre cut off by Thorin.
âNo. I need to say this,â he insists.
âI havenât been true to my promise, and in the few days without you, it made me realise how easily I could lose my love,â
You shake your head at his words.
âThorin, no matter the distance between us, I could never stop loving you. All I wanted was for you to take care of yourself,â you explain.
âI understand, but that does not take away from the fact that I have indeed been neglectful to you,â he leans forward, and you feel the tip of his nose touch yours.
You stare into his eyes, and they speak more words than you could ever verbally express.
He connects his lips to yours and pulls you impossibly closer to you.
You moan into the kiss when he makes you straddle him.
ââmiss you,â he murmurs against your lips.
ââm right here,â you reply.
You pour all your emotions into the kiss, making sure Thorin is aware of just how much he means to you.
He hands roam your clothed body. When he goes to trail kisses down your neck, you come to your senses.
âThorin, what if someone walks in,â
âThey donât know weâre here,â he states and goes to undo the lace at the back of your dress.
You could feel him harden beneath you.
âBeen to long,â his words were becoming slurred on lust and love.
He easily undid the top of your dress and took time appreciating your breasts. You moan at the feeling of him teasing you.
He looks up at you in awe, never had he been so in love.
âI love you,â he says as he pulls back to look at you more.
âAnd I you,â you state.
He wraps an arm around your waist and moves so that he is above you and you lay beneath him. Your legs are secure around his waist.
âYouâre addicting amrĂąlimĂȘ,â he lays kisses as he rids you of your skirt.
He takes the time to admire your beauty. Your chest rises from arousal and your lips are parted, craving to has his lips on yours.
He does quick work of taking off his own shirt and pants, the be as bare as you are.
âMy love,â you announce as you reach for him. He smirks at your words and feels his pride rise.
You feel his cock brushing against your thigh and reach between the two of you to take hold of it, he hisses in reaction.
âY/n,â he warns.
You rub the tip of his cock to your wet folds, coating his cock and make him moan in pleasure.
âNeed to feel you,â he groans.
You align his cock with your entrance and move your hips forward, indicating for him to move as well. Thorin does not waste a moment. He puts all his body weight on you and fills you to the brim.
He swears in khuzdul under his breath, but does not hesitate to rock his hip forward, not leaving space between the two of you.
You are all but moaning in his ear and letting his know just how good he is making you feel.
âThorin,â you plead.
âI know amrĂąlimĂȘ. I know,â he acknowledges your pouted lips and knitted brows.
He buries his head in your neck and inhales your scent, feeling himself becoming intoxicated by you.
He knows you are close when he feels your nails scratching down his back.
âYes amrĂąlimĂȘ, mark me as yours,â he encourages.
His words tip you over the edge, and your tightness makes him meet his moment. He kisses you through his orgasm and moans into your mouth.
All that can be heard in the quiet library is the sound of both of your laboured breathing.
âI want to marry you,â he murmurs against your lips.
âIsnât that the purpose of courting?â you ask with a chuckle.
He takes his cloak to cover the both of you as you cuddle on the couch. You cuddle into his check as his arms hold you close to him.
âI want there to be a wedding, soon,â he explains.
You peer at him in disbelief.
âYou meanâŠâ
âYes, I mean that we should begin planning our wedding right away,â he chuckles at your expression.
âYou mean it?â you ask.
âWith every beat of my heart. I want to make you my queen.â He admits.
