What if you grew up as the sheltered daughter of a mafia family and you didn't know what your dad did until one of his enemies took something from you you're never going to get back?
What if you were nineteen and watched your entire family get murdered by the mob at a wedding?
What if you dedicated your life to taking down the organised criminal element not just for the innocent victims of the city but also that little girl you know is still there in your heart behind the masks and weapons?
What if you were a teacher and had to grade papers after tearing open stitches from your last patrol?

you wanted ancient Greek god stories? sure, here's one I've heard before.
You've seen Orion up in the sky before, right? The constellation, right on the equatorial line passing overhead. Wears the big funny belt? Well, he was immortalised in the stars after he fell in battle, due to his own hubris and warrior spirit.
Orion the giant was out hunting one day, accompanied by Artemis, goddess of the hunt. As the day went on, they killed many great animals; some deer, some foxes, and Orion even slew a large black bear! Emboldened by his apparent might, Orion proclaimed that there was not a creature on this Earth that he could not hunt. Hearing his cry, Gaia— primordial deity of the Earth— became enraged. Offended by Orion's hubris, she sent forth Scorpius, the giant scorpion, to fight against Orion in battle. Orion, blinded by confidence, readily accepted the challenge.
As the two began fighting, Artemis of the true arrow withdrew from the brawl: as an Olympian she did not want to interfere with Gaia's intentions. Perhaps an arrow shot from her bow might have spared Orion his life, but alas, Scorpius' sick stinger found its home in Orion's heart. The giant fell and expired there in the forest, and Gaia was content.
Feeling the loss of a fellow hunter, Artemis implored Gaia to undo her actions, but she could not be swayed. However, in her satisfaction at besting the boastful hunter, Gaia agreed to arrest his likeness into a constellation in the stars above. She wove the stars into Orion's shape, and donned him with his club; and across the sky too she imagined the constellation Scorpius into existance. Across the sky from each other, the two chase eternally through the stars so that they might battle again. Now, we see only their memory, and are reminded of Orion's hubris in thinking he could beat the full might of the Earth.
--
Hope you enjoyed that tale! it mightn't be the most historically accurate telling, but its what I tell my friends when we're out stargazing together ^.^
SEE THIS IS THE SHIT! GIVE ME STORIES ABOUT THESE SILLY GODS SO I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY YOU ALL LIKE THEM SO MUCH

❝ HEAR YE, HEAR YE ! get ready for a world of fun and thrills as jousting knights and royal delights with costumed villagers and other merrymakers prepare to make your visit to the cadbury renaissance faire an unforgettable experience ! cadbury castle, the one time home of the great wizard merlin and his magical camelot, invites you to enjoy the 12th century village and all of the fantastical entertainment that comes with, including wandering musicians, hilarious comedy acts and, of course, royal jugglers ! you'll meet a host of memorable characters and enjoy the sport of full contact live armored jousting, along with getting the chance to enjoy fabulous food fit for royalty and over a hundred unique merchants selling beautiful, handcrafted goods ! come as you are or wish to be, and don't miss your once a year chance to join the arthurian court - or to nominate your loved ones for the chance to be this years BURNING WITCH !  ❞
WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE :
the cadbury renaissance faire is an all wix event run from the ruins of cadbury castle in somerset over a week of the ministry of magic's choosing, usually at the height of summer. they get the final say on the dates that it tends to run because of the mountain of work that they have to put in to ensure that it goes off without a hitch - and, of course, without a breach of the statute of wixen secrecy. the departments of magical games & sports, law enforcement and transportation are forced to work together in the leadup to make sure that the entire area within a ten mile radius is appropriately covered by protective charms and muggle repellents, and that everyone who is travelling in by magical means - be it by broomstick, portkey or apparition from local points - is doing so safely. while the faire doesn't draw the same sort of crowds that high importance quidditch games have historically involved, and most overseas wix have their own faires to enjoy that mean they can't be tempted by one in cadbury, it still has its regulars and, every year, a huge amount of newcomers who are drawn by intense promotion across wixen radio and classic flyers.
set in the 12th century and on the very land where the 'mythical' ( to muggles, deeply real to wix ) land of camelot once lay, the big selling point of this faire is the celebration of the larger than life figures that many young wix learn about at home before they ever make it to hogwarts. for a week, the ruins of the old castle are transformed into a sea of colorful tents, stalls and stages, with guests getting the once in a blue moon chance to live the way that those historical figures - merlin, morgan, nimueh - once did. it isn't the most accurate of events, especially now that the next generation have started to attend and bring with them new interpretations on a classic theme, but there's enough going on that most forgive it.
the shops and stalls sell well made ( and in some cases, sourced from shein ) clothes for those that didn't have a costume at the back of their wardrobe, jewelry to accessorise, muggle style weapons to fit the theme and other handmade goods ( soaps, candles, ceramics, potions ), and while these are definitely one of the main attractions, the wandering actors who stay in character throughout are another huge part of the appeal. the food is always of the highest quality, with meat pies, turkey legs and mead available at most of the stalls and a large group feast held at the centre of the ruins every night, once the sun goes down. there are comedy skits, acrobats, wandering musicians, fortune tellers, pub crawls, jousting competitions, quests and just about everything else you can think of - including, this year, a week long opportunity to nominate witches who will each stand trial at the end of the event, morbidly competing for the high honor of being the single one that gets mock burned at the stake. the latter mightn't be the sort of event to take your children to, but the rest of the faire promises family friendly fun that is worth having experienced, even just the once !
OUT OF CHARACTER:
the cadbury renaissance faire is making its triumphant return to nox, this time complete with a fun new witch trial subplot - something that has been a long, long time coming, if you can believe it ! that idea got floated way back in 2021 and never managed to make it to a full event of its own, even though we really enjoyed, at the time, the idea of it being considered a huge honor to be the burning witch of the year. i think it fits the vibe we're going for, here, and i'm glad it finally found its place ! the trial will close out the event at the end of the week ( ic ) / two weeks ( ooc ), and will be as interactive as i can make it with ic nominations for the duration, and i'd recommend keeping younger muses away from it - though they're welcome to enjoy the rest of what the faire has to offer them ! costumes aren't mandatory for entry, though a willingness to get involved and to be as immersed as possible definitely is !
this event will begin with the posting of this message and end in two weeks time ! there'll only be about a week of cooldown between this and our next major event, another nox classic that i think you guys might already be expecting - i hope that's alright !
no character is required to attend, of course, especially if you consider this to be something that they'd be disinterested in, but you're encouraged to involve yourself as much as possible !
you can feel free to post any characters outfits that you'd like to post in the section that i've made on the main discord server, and nominate characters ( ic ) for the witch trials ! this was envisioned as a dash event, but you aren't required to pause any of your current threads - just make sure to tag them appropriately to avoid confusion !
event related starters ( including private ones ) can be tagged with nox.event042 ! the faire is located at the ruins of cadbury castle, somerset - the nox canon home of camelot - for anyone who tags location !
if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to send them to the main ! please like this post once you've read it !

The best educational system in your opinion?
L:
i'm assuming you mean by country? because in that case, i'm not really sure. none of them seem that great to me, and i've never attended any formal school so it's not like i can pick my own. i suppose the UK, maybe? i've heard they had a good education system. i'm still not sure though.
Light:
Well, it kind of depends what you intend to study as a major...but if you're talking about more generally, maybe I'm biased, but I personally feel that the systems in countries such as Japan, China and---even though it's small, but Singapore---are rather good. This is just based off some of my personal experiences and other things I've heard, so it mightn't be that accurate, though. Thanks for the ask!

5 Best Local SEO Tips for Indian Startups
Tumblr media
As an Indian startup, you know how competitive the market can be, and mastering local SEO can be your game changer. By optimizing your Google My Business profile, incorporating local keywords, and building citations, you can greatly enhance your visibility. Plus, encouraging customer reviews and creating content that resonates with your community can foster deeper connections. But how do you effectively implement these strategies without overwhelming yourself? Let's explore the best practices that can set you apart from the competition.
Key Takeaways
Optimize your Google My Business profile with a compelling description and high-quality images to attract local customers.
Conduct keyword research to identify and integrate relevant local keywords into your website and social media content.
Build consistent local citations across key directories like Google My Business and Yelp to enhance credibility and visibility.
Encourage customer reviews by requesting feedback and responding promptly to enhance trust and boost local SEO.
Create localized content that reflects community interests, events, and cultural relevance to engage your target audience effectively.
Optimize Google My Business
An accurate and well-maintained GMB profile enhances your credibility and helps customers find you easily. Include high-quality images of your products or services, and encourage satisfied customers to leave positive reviews. Collaborating with a local SEO expert India can provide you with tailored strategies to outperform competitors and capture your target audience effectively.
Remember, this description is often the first impression potential customers will have of your business, so make it count.
Ensure your business categories are also up-to-date to improve your visibility in relevant searches. Regularly monitor and update your service area based on any changes in your operations. For more targeted growth, consider implementing SEO strategies that can elevate your brand, especially with small business-specific tactics like those found in 10 SEO Tips for Indian Small Businesses.
Don't forget to add high-quality images of your products or services, as visuals can greatly enhance your profile's appeal.
Regularly update your GMB profile with new posts about promotions, events, or updates. Engaging with customer reviews also plays a vital role; respond promptly and professionally to build trust and credibility.
Leverage Local Keywords
After optimizing your Google My Business profile, the next step in enhancing your local visibility involves leveraging local keywords effectively. Start by conducting thorough keyword research to identify terms your target audience is actually searching for. Focus on specific phrases that incorporate your location, like "best coffee shop in Mumbai" or "affordable web design in Bangalore."
Once you've gathered these keywords, integrate them into your website content, blog posts, and social media updates. This not only helps search engines understand your relevance but also resonates with local users.
Pay attention to regional trends; what works in one city mightn't apply in another. For instance, festive keywords during Diwali can attract more local traffic, so tailor your content accordingly.
Additionally, consider using tools like Google Trends to track these regional trends, ensuring your keywords stay relevant and timely. By consistently leveraging local keywords, you'll enhance your online presence and connect more effectively with potential customers in your area.
Build Local Citations
Building local citations is essential for boosting your visibility in search results. When you create consistent and accurate listings across various citation sources, you help search engines verify your business information, which can lead to improved rankings.
Start by identifying key local directories relevant to your industry and location. Popular ones include Google My Business, Yelp, and Justdial.
Ensure your business name, address, and phone number (NAP) are consistent across all platforms. Inconsistencies can confuse search engines and potential customers, ultimately hurting your credibility.
Besides the obvious directories, consider niche-specific citation sources that cater to your industry, as these can drive targeted traffic.
Don't forget to claim your listings on these local directories. This not only gives you more control over your information but also allows you to add valuable details like business hours, photos, and service descriptions.
Additionally, keep an eye on your competitors. If they're listed in certain directories, it's worth ensuring you're there too.
Encourage Customer Reviews
Encouraging customer reviews can greatly enhance your local SEO efforts and build trust with potential clients. When customers leave positive feedback, it signals to search engines that your business is credible and relevant, boosting your visibility.
To get started, ask satisfied clients directly for reviews. A personal touch often leads to better responses.
Incentivizing reviews can be a powerful strategy. Consider offering discounts or freebies for customers who take the time to share their experiences. Just make sure you're transparent about it, as authenticity matters in the long run.
Implementing effective review response strategies is equally important. Respond to both positive and negative reviews promptly and professionally. Thank customers for their feedback and address any concerns they might raise.
This not only shows that you value their opinions but also helps other potential clients see that you're attentive and responsive.
Create Localized Content
Creating localized content is essential for Indian startups aiming to connect with their community and improve local SEO. By tailoring your content to reflect the interests, culture, and needs of your target audience, you can foster better community engagement and drive more traffic to your website.
Here's a quick guide on how to create effective localized content: Strategy Description Use Local Keywords Incorporate keywords that reflect local searches, like city names or regional slang. Highlight Local Events Write blog posts or articles about upcoming events, festivals, or community initiatives. Showcase Local Stories Share success stories or testimonials from local customers to build trust and relevance. Collaborate with Locals Partner with local influencers or businesses to co-create content that resonates with the community.

Our Guide to Navigating Insulation Grants: What Worked for Us
Much like maneuvering a maze, finding and securing insulation grants can seem challenging at first glance. I've gone through the process myself and learned a few tricks along the way that made a significant difference.
From understanding the complex eligibility criteria to pinpointing the grants that best matched my needs, and mastering the application process, I've gathered insights that could ease this journey for others.
Tumblr media
In this guide, I'll share practical tips on how to increase your chances of successful approval, and why paying attention to the small details could be the key to accessing these opportunities.
Curious about how to get started? Let's explore this together.
Understanding Eligibility Criteria
Determining your eligibility for insulation grants is the first step in unlocking potential savings on home energy costs. Exploring through the labyrinth of available grants, I've learned that understanding the eligibility criteria is vital. It's not just about wanting to save money or make your home more energy-efficient; it's about meeting specific requirements that can vary greatly.
One key factor I discovered is the impact of regional differences on eligibility. Different regions have their unique sets of rules and benefits, tailored to local climates and energy usage patterns. It's important to research and understand these nuances because what's available in one area mightn't be in another.
Another critical aspect is income thresholds. Many grants are designed to support those in particular income brackets, aiming to make sure that financial support reaches those who need it most. Being transparent and accurate about your income level when applying is crucial, as this can have a significant impact on your eligibility.
youtube
In my journey, I've found that being well-informed about these criteria—regional differences and income thresholds—has been key to successfully navigating the complex landscape government insulation grants of insulation grants.
Finding the Right Grants
Once you've pinpointed your eligibility, it's time to hunt down the grants that best match your needs. This journey led me into the maze of grant sources, each with its unique offerings and requirements. I quickly realized the importance of meticulous financial planning. It wasn't just about finding a grant; it was about identifying one that aligned perfectly with my insulation project's scope and budget.
I started by compiling a list of potential grant sources. This task required diving deep into government websites, consulting with local energy agencies, and even reaching out to community organizations that had previously set out on similar projects. My aim was to gather as much information as insulation grants possible to make an informed decision.
This phase of financial planning was critical. It wasn't merely about the immediate benefits. I'd to take into account the long-term impact of the grant on my budget and project timeline. Would the grant cover all expenses, or would I need to supplement it with personal funds? How would this choice affect my overall financial health?
Tumblr media
In the end, finding the right grant was a blend of strategic research and astute financial planning. It was about ensuring the grant I chose not only met my current needs but also aligned with my long

thinking about amnesia lately. (this is Matt here by the way. hi, nice to meet you.) for a very long time we didn't think we experienced amnesia. or more accurately the host didn't think it experienced any amnesia.
despite all the lost and blurry memories. looking back it is pretty obvious for all of us. but at the time, when you don't know something can be wrong, it's hard to know that it is.
even after discovering that we had DID, any amount of shared memory was an indicator to us that there was no amnesia at all. we assumed we were forgetful or something. or that we were faking even to ourself.
it's a complicated feeling to think that you're lying to yourself. myself, Matthew that is, i believe obviously that i am real. and that i am a part of a dissociative system. but still the host is very reluctant to consider that it mightn't be lying for attention. symptoms that occur when you're alone are unlikely to be for attention, but there we are.
sorry for the tangent, back to amnesia. it's frightening to stand there and actively feel yourself forgetting. just as, if not more, when you feel yourself remember that you've forgotten something when in the moment you felt sure this one would stick around. when you realize you didn't notice it slipping. or when you realize despite being physically present, you were not there for the action.
it's a very interesting feeling to have a memory that abruptly cuts off. that'll be where a switch happened. or something upsetting and triggering. upsetting but fascinating.
just some rambling thoughts ive had on the matter. it's something i think of quite a bit when im being existential.

close call :)
@desertfragments - you should be dead 17 times over
"You. Wanted to know why I'm staying here, yes?"
A pause that drags on for several moments too long. "Too bad," he says, and then. "--Uh, no. It really isn't very interesting, though."
"I mean, I was born as an accursed and afflicted being so as to punish my mother for the hubris tainting our lineage. That's all accurate." More or less. "In fact. In fact, I mightn't have lasted out the week if my parents -- uh, no, if Mel weren't such accomplished mage herself. Not very good at breathing, and such. Been stapled together, so to speak, but. You know. M'body's determined to sabotage our efforts." He takes a slow, deliberate breath, ow, spins a ring with an empty setting around his finger.
"You know! People sometimes think, uh, we were better at enchanting things in ancient times, and there are certainly some lost techniques, but, uh, mostly, it's just that anything that still works after so long needs to be of legendary quality. Channeling magic through something all the time tends to, um, wear it down, gradually. People are more durable, they just tend to repair themselves, but, ah, rocks will eventually--" Where the hell was he? Right.
"Anyway. One morning, it's been a long day and I'm standing there wondering why it's taking me so fucking long to walk anywhere, because I should have been able to make it here and dig up a fucking grave by now, and I haven’t even been in the sun. And I have something" -- somethings, really -- "that helps improve, uh, muscular endurance, strength, in general -- 's one works sort of like a battery, but of course there's only so many times anything can be charged and cleansed and uncharged -- uh, crystal's going cloudy, anyway. And I have several hundred dollars which I really need for materials to deliver on my next commission, but I've got to track down a replacement for that instead, and -- well, it takes nearly a week and I let the asshole fleece me on it just because I'm sick and tired."
"But! But, when I switch it out, it doesn't really help? Any more than the failing one? Wearing both doesn’t really help. And I did check it before buying, and everything does seem in order, and I still have a goddamn seance to get ready for, somehow, and I say to myself, fuck this, I'll try a more potent solution. Sometimes you need to upgrade. And I do have an idea already. Mostly used for artificially animated entities, but, you know, what's the difference?"
He absentmindedly prods his bicep (?) where the remnants of the spell are scratched into his flesh. "So I sit down and, uh, I implement that, and I don’t really know if it will change much, if at all. And then I go to stand up, and I hear a crack. Which is. My femur, I think. And my collarbone, and -- three and a half of the rings that help direct the associated energies. Have broken. And my flesh is splitting around the inscription like I tried to write Unspeakable Runes on ordinary paper.”
“So, you know, it was more powerful. Just. Didn't help me much. Wouldn’t hold, either. Need to make some adjustments.”
"While after that, tried getting up again and, um. Wasn't really happening." And simply breathing was getting more laborious. And he was pretty sure, at the time, that nobody was going to be looking for him, or knowing which abandoned building to look in if they did, or bothering do anything about it if they saw him. Inhale, exhale. "Don't remember who picked me up. Unconscious."
"Fucking embarrassing," he adds, and finally sets about eviscerating the raccoon he's dragged into the yard.

Hello! I'm a high schooler considering going into geology, as I've always been interested in it. What's it like studying geology? What are the hardest classes in your opinion? And ofc any other advice/info you want to add.
Thanks for reading this ask :)
Hi!
Sorry, have been out all weekend at a competition. But to answer you - I adore my degree. I'm studying earth science (which geology is a subset of) so this mightn't fully be accurate. However, i went in knowing just above the basics - 2 examples of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, the rock cycle, water cycle, general theories (tectonics). I was never SUPER into it but its just grown and grown the more I have learned.
The hardest class for me rn is Tectonics and structural geology : quite hard to visualise if youre not a 3d thinker but there are ways around that issue. I also found oceanography challenging, espeically regarding the mathematical sides. Get familar with excel - even just watching a couple yt videos : nothing too in depth (lol). Not a huge paleo fan - or climate past or present. It's so important , but unfortunately not my kind of thing to study!
My favourite classes this year is metamorphic and igneous rocks : so the geology side is definitely one of my strengths so please reach out with any questions (can't gaureantee I can answer but I shall try!)
Its just such a broad subject , if you can take a look at modules /classes within the course/major/degree that'll give a good idea of what areas to expect and point you in the right direction. But don't worry if you havent any idea - I didn't either (and im still unsure and that's ok!!) ! really hope this is helpful and not too rambly!

"Perhaps," Ren replied. Perhaps he sounded dismissive, but then his voice was a dream, too, and held no weight.
Certainly, there were worse things to become. Indeed, there was some truth to Arákhnē's story. Few could bring themselves to look at her, but at the least, Arákhnē was bound in anatomy that could get her around through space and time, even in that measly way of Mid-realmers. Ren occasionally found himself in the companionship of the fae, the restive dead, descendants of Phainon, a void from wild space. Once, even a giant. When they were gone, he had only his rooms to wander. There was nowhere left to go.
Æther's sympathy was lost on him; the squeeze was not, nor was the exclamation. Ren scowled at her hand and then surveyed her grin; his eyes slit with scrutiny as though he were trying to read a foreign language.
"Do you care to visit another?" he asked, peering. "What would you like to see? Endless battles? Boiling seas? Petrified forests? Famine's perish? I've made more, but they mightn't be as accurate."
Lifting his doric wrist, Ren conjured a door from a burst of arcus clouds. After that, he tried a smile. Slow and strange it was, emerging on his lips as if one of the greats had risen from the dead to stand up on a ladder and chisel it himself.
"There are worse things to become." It may sound flippant, but she means it sympathetically. there were countless times when she was trapped as effluvium that she had desperately wished she could truly be so much vapor, or hardened stone. Mindless and unaware of her endless fate.
But then there had been no ending for her, just seconds, years, centuries ticking by in a cage. If it had all been leading to her death...
Her fingers tightened without meaning to, sympathy heavy in her throat only to dissolve as her attention was tugged onto the final card they stepped onto. "Fantastic!" she answered enthusiastically, lips pulled a wide grin as she brought her carmine gaze back up to him. A diversion should be cause for alarm, or at least alertness, especially when she didn't doubt his power — but his realm was so wonderful, it demanded the bulk of her attention. "I've always liked stone."

I find it interesting that Augustus was completely accurate when he told Mike that he undid every bit of good Lucy has done for herself. Before she left she ended up jumping to Paulo after Mike rejected her. In After You there were moments where she clearly enjoyed being close to Paulo, but didn’t allow that for herself. She said she wasn’t ready for a relationship and had clearly gotten development. Now she really is back at square one. It’s cool to see how much Augustus gets her.
Augustus was doing pretty good summarising Lucy around December as well in that he knew that Lucy was getting hung up over one single person when she has so many things around her. I think that just goes to show how much of a better friend he became over time as he wasn't scared to tell her the things she mightn't have wanted to hear. Her other friends being less likely to as not to anger her while Augustus felt more incentive as a means to get her to leave him alone, before realising no one was even trying to tell her some of the things she desperately needed to hear. Lucy just is not ready for a relationship.
I can't help but feel Paulo might've been a better outcome had Paulo grown up a little and not gotten involved with Rachel and Jessica, but then it's a wonder if Lucy wouldn't have been anything but similar to Daisy in that Mike would've still been in the picture.

3+ hcs for yuuki & your char | accepting!
yuuki and red work together great, especially in the wild.both of them are seasoned travellers, red moreso than yuuki by many years. yuuki’s very technical and methodical; red is the type who’s got experience and sort of does things on instinct. they complement each other fairly well, and could probably outsmart some wild pkmn without using their own!
yuuki and red are both fairly simple eaters.they have their standards and favourites, but aren’t very picky about what they have to eat. if it’s just rice with some vegetables -- fine. they’ll survive to eat another day. they also don’t eat at regular intervals. yuuki tries, and when he does eat, he might end up wondering if red had eaten his dinner, too.
yuuki and red rarely agree about the weather.will it rain today? yuuki thinks not. red does. they eventually agree to disagree, but both of them find themselves caught in neither rain nor sun, and it ends up snowing despite it being early spring in unova, or something. red grabs a fistful of snow and snacks happily. yuuki decides he’s done with seasonal changes and heads indoors.

I saw you suggested to me on my dash and I saw your "australian archeology" tag. You got me very much curios, how does aussie archeology breaks down? How it compares to the near east , if it's comparable at all?
ooh interesting question - honestly my answer kinda depends on how much you know about archaeology... but the safe option is always assume not much - so let me know if you want more details!
Also I live in Australia - and so my main focus is Australian archaeology. I honestly don't know heaps about how archaeology is run in the near east, and what is similar/different about it.
Although if someone else does let me know.
I work in what we call 'consulting archaeology' in Australia - but I get the impression its called something else in a lot of other places. So i work in and know about both aspects of Australian archaeology. (Edit: its apparently CRM in other places)
Me and a lot of people I work with divide Australian archaeology into "Indigenous/Aboriginal" and "historical". Some people use "Indigenous/Aboriginal" and "European" but this isnt really accurate - and it also creates an illusion that we can, in all situations, tell the difference between an 'European' site and a post-contact 20th century house that an Indigenous (or any other cultural group) family is living in.
So yes, "Aboriginal" and "historical" basically divide our archaeology into pre-contact, post-contact and just plain old 'contact' periods.
Our historical archaeology (generally) dates from 1770 onwards - but there are some aspects earlier relating to European explorers etc. e.g. the Dutch in Western or Northern Australia. Captain Cook and the English mightn't have rocked up until 1770, but the world was aware of australia at least as early as 1606 (x) (x). I imagine its fairly generic post-colonisation archaeology, but we do have some cool stuff...
Indigenous archaeology (typically) is related to analysis of physical remains of hearths and stone artefacts - most of Australia has very acidic soil, so wood, bone and other organic materials have low preservation. And pre-contact Australia (the very vast majority at least) didn't have any pottery or similar materials. And relies very heavily on consultation with Aboriginal Traditional Custodians. Our consultation processes aren't perfect by any means - and you can very easily get me to talk about this - the process is legislated now (Which is a very low bar - but its better than nothing).
tada! hopefully that answers your question? but its very easy to talk me into expanding on points, so go wild if you've got questions

Oh hey, thanks so much for the comments!
#this is actually my primary reason for believing engines lose the language/accent of their workshop pretty quickly#otherwise most the engines of the world would have been speaking heavily scottish or new-yorkish until 1900
Let's be fair: Or Pennsylvania-ish (H K Porter, Baldwin, and two of the companies that became ALCO), or New Jersey-Ish (Rogers Locomotive Works).
#fun fact: duck (if his canon number is correct... which awdry says it mightn't be... *exaggerated sigh*) is also glasgow-built#i haven't dove into it yet but i have my doubts donald and douglas are that free from c.r.-specific identity#the caley was very Culture (plus there is the north/south divide)#and there were SO MANY RAILWAY RIVALRIES well into the 1900s#i don't know much about scottish railways but i know for instance the caley and the glasgow & south western had a *fierce* rivalry#the distinctions persisted among the railwaymen somewhat past Grouping#and i cannot look at a young donal and douggie and see them as above a good feud ;)
Oh god. Learning more about C.R. today! Yes when they were young I bet they were pissed about grouping and spent quite a while getting in feuds with everyone. The question is how much of their energy would they devote to playing "No True Scots Railway" and how much would they devote to being pissed that someone in London was calling the shots.
I think by Nationalization time they'd have cooled down on the intra-Scottish rivalries, and quite possibly blamed Modernization on "English Meddling" even if an independent Scottish rail network would really have done the same thing similarly to the way I think Duck blamed British Rail. Getting purchased by the railway notorious for getting its own region and proceeding to tell BR to fuck off on every major policy decision was so perfect for them.
And also OMG yes Glaswegian Duck. I choose to believe whether his number was accurate or not he was from one of the Glasgow batches and was very much not about to be told that he wasn't every bit as Great Western as the Swindon-built members of his class.
#sidenote i think a lot about how boco and bear still wear b.r. liveries#i think our sodor perspective obscures the fact that there is a b.r. heritage that many from the 50s onward would have been proud of#and why not? nationalisation (for all it became a clusterfuck in some ways) began as a very progressive and idealistic move
Yes! BR diesel/electric heritage!
...possibly not so much steam heritage. I think even without the whole Sodor Telling the Mainland to Fuck Off complex the surviving steam engines on the mainland do not have much love for British Rail even if they were built post-nationalization and don't have an affiliation with one of the old railways. Possibly especially the young engines. Being told you're obsolete very nearly from birth and only built as a stopgap measure until you can be replaced has to be such a special level of trauma. Although the same early retirement thing happened to Boco and Bear's classes as well I guess. But they could see it as the NWR being nominally part of British Rail when they joined it so technically they're wearing an appropriate livery for the company that refused to withdraw them.
Headcanons about RWS/TTTE characters' idea of geographic identity, inspired by an earlier thread about engines identifying with their class vs railway vs works location vs country or state.
Thomas I think sees himself as a Sudrian engine through and through. Whatever interesting circumstances brought him to the NWR by accident, they happened very early in his life, and the best I can tell it seems like he's a weird experimental E2 with a shortened wheelbase or something? So possibly he was always intended to be shipped off somewhere else for the war effort. Instead he found himself on a railway full of leased engines and ones inherited from the railways merged into the NWR.
Edward was built in Scotland, but if you asked him I think he'd say he was a Furness Railway engine, and he supposed English if it came down to it - not necessarily out of any stigma against being Scottish but because of a sense that his home was more important than his birthplace. However looking at the roster of F.R. Engines... jeez, there's a lot of Sharp, Stewart, and Co. and North British Locomotive Company engines. Makes me think maybe the F.R. had more Scottish influence than Edward ever realized because he went from Glasgow to a railway full of other Glasgow-built engines from the same works as him. He's an engine of the NWR now, but Edward had to watch his railway slowly die to grouping from right next door, and he certainly considers the few other surviving Furness engines family.
Henry, like Thomas, uhh... doesn't feel much connection to his roots. He was a one-off, and given that whoever built him was using stolen Gresley plans but due to some combination of being built from drawings that weren't built by Gresley for a reason and his builders changing things to make it less obvious that they ripped off Gresley without knowing what they were doing, they messed him up. I imagine there was some... secrecy around his construction and he was not really socialized with other engines at whatever sketchy shop built him or on any railway, until they managed to offload him to some desperate sucker in a top hat who'd take any cheap engine.
However, Henry then ended up around Gordon, who's a proud Gresley Doncaster Engine, and probably a bunch of the early-NWR loaners had siblings they were built alongside back on their home lines. Pre-rebuild I imagine he felt like he was missing out on that sense of belonging and missed being a proper brother to Gordon. So aside from physically being healed by his Crewe rebuild, I think Henry really liked having a proper "Works Family," and would have stayed in touch with them. Sadly I'm not sure who among those are still around - it looks like while a bunch of Black 5s were preserved the only Crewe one not built in the 1940s was No. 5000, who was built in March 1935 and would probably have been out the door very shortly after Henry arrived.
Gordon is the one out of the first six NWR engines who feels the strongest connection with his Works. Gordon takes his "family name" and heritage quite seriously, not just out of gloryhound tendencies but because he was a prototype who was never given a proper number on his railway and essentially used for testing, but he was there for a couple years and got to interact with his siblings before going to Sodor.
James on the other hand, despite having like a decade-long career on the LY&R and then a couple years on the LMS, really doesn't feel connected to it or the Works that built him. James was an experimental prototype like Henry, Gordon, and Thomas, that was offloaded to the NWR for cheap, but James is a deeply insecure and status-conscious engine, and even if I think he was in denial that his design was deemed unsuccessful and the LMS didn't want him for a long, long time, he subconsciously knew. He's an engine who really wanted individuality but was treated like a bog-standard goods engine. Then he got a rebuild that made him "special" and "improved," but instead of being treated like that he was painted black (i.e. the cheapest paint color and the one that dirt doesn't show up on so you don't have to clean an engine as often) and given wooden brake blocks. Honestly the more I think about his pre-Sodor history the more I'm convinced that so much of what's wrong with James is trauma-related. He's desperate to be one of the "important" engines and to be valued and cared about, and I'm suspicious that it's in large part because he was not worth maintaining properly to his previous owners.
And the thing is, James is an engine who reacts to any slight against his ego with defensiveness and anger. I think out of anyone in the main NWR fleet James would feel resentment towards his old railway and builders, and if pressed say they didn't deserve to have his name associated with them.
Percy is the weird little industrial franken-engine who was sold and modified and rebuilt so many times that he doesn't know what he is anymore. I think before Sodor he didn't really have enough of a connection with anywhere to think of it as "home," and he had friends at his various old workplaces but no real family until he came to Sodor.
Then I think there's kind of a cultural divide, where in one way or another most of the early-NWR engines acquired pre-nationalization other than perhaps Edward think of themselves kind of like adopted children - whether they were given up at "birth" like Thomas or Henry, at an early age like Gordon, bounced around like Percy or were tossed aside like James. But post-nationalization they started getting steam engines who'd had much longer careers and had a home railway, and felt more like immigrants or refugees from somewhere else.
Toby I think still identifies with the tramway and harbor where he used to work with his siblings, and out of anyone on the NWR he might be most likely to refer to himself as English.
Duck is, of course, Great Western. He at the very least, even if this isn't universal GWR Culture, believes Railway is more important than Works or Country to an engine's identity, and would strongly discourage making distinctions between the many batches of 5700-Class engines based on whether they were built at Swindon or somewhere else. He became even more of a GWR Patriot after Nationalization, and in his mind if he resents anyone it's the British Rail "outsiders" who took over and messed up his perfectly good railway.
Donald and Douglas are, of course, Scottish. Not Caledonian Railway, even though that was their origin, Scottish. Which kinda makes sense because even if they originated on the Caledonian Railway and were part of it for over a decade, most of their 50-year pre-Sodor lives were spent Post-Grouping on the LMS, and then on the Scottish Region of British Rail.
Oliver is also Great Western, but I agree with others who've said he seems less attached to that identity than Duck, possibly due in part to another decade of being on BR and being officially withdrawn and marked for scrap. Like, he enjoys having the Little Western, but if Duck wasn't on the NWR or he'd escaped to some other heritage line where he was the sole ex-GWR engine I think he might have just gone "I'm part of your railway now."
But what about the diesels? Uhh... I think post-Nationalization because classes of engines were built in multiple locations and sent all over BR, and many classes were big, there was much less regional or railway or even in some cases class identity. Engines from smaller classes might consider all their classmates siblings, but larger classes such as the Class 08s might not. I don't know if Diesel or Mavis would consider a Class 08 or Class 04 built in a different batch at a different works to be family.
...and then there's America, and uhh, I think locational/cultural/regional identity in the US would be at just as much of a clusterfuck for American locomotives as for humans.

All that is fair and understandable! I don't see the post as making Thor out to be bad though, so saying it would be a Wrong Opinion or it was apologism (and the last 5 tags particularly) irk me, considering the recount from Loki's perspective would've been accurate even if it wasn't complete comedy.
They never touch on Thor's reaction to finding out Loki is Jotun (or really anything to do with the plot of the first movie again >:[ ) but while I don't blame Thor for anything in the first movie (lad was clueless 😔) I do consider him a hypocrite, if only for his inability to give a reason Loki "can't kill an entire race" after such a small time period of change and the disconnect between becoming fond of/seeing humans differently vs Jotun... because the narrative doesn't provide a reason he should be against it apart from 1. Loki lying to him 2. He thinks Loki sent the Destroyer to kill him/the Warriors 4 - both of which would mean he is opposing the actions because it is Loki doing it. Though I personally like the interpretation that he was trying to work out why Loki was acting different/out of it in such a small amount of time since he also changed.
ahsgdvsdvasgjd I don;t mind throwing meta onto crack posts and referred specifically to this post because using pumpkins and pineapples while engaging in meta is funny, but also the post had Loki screaming so yeah that means Thor wanted to slay frost giants and then a few days later does a 180 and is arguing against that is in fact very dodge.
The other-pumpkins comment was in regard to the other Jotun, since even if Thor knows and accepts Loki as his brother and a Jotun (something somehow not addressed in canon) we're still left with what he thinks of the rest of Jotunheim and its inhabitants (somehow also never ever addressed in canon).
With this though #do we all agree that pumpkin genocide is wrong? i think we do you may want to consider that Thor and Loki's context mightn't see anything wrong in it, since what we get to see of Asgard's culture fighting is glorified and genocide commemorated, although under the guise of 'keeping the peace'.
If you interpret things differently in any way that's cool too, it just really comes across condescendingly and as though blaming Thor makes grounds for accusing of apologism especially since I didn't see either there since his actions weren't being defended, at least not past objective events, (sans the dramatic line about explaining it to the pumpkin son after he flings himself off the bifrost zsdxfcgh).
Loki: Adoption is just so difficult, I don’t know how Odin did it,
Thor: We’ve been here for hours, please, just pick a pumpkin already,
Loki: but I wouldn’t want it to feel like I was obligated to take it home and it inherently owes me for it’s life
Thor: Loki, Brother, please just pick one,
Loki: I sure hope none of these want to remain that orangey colour, because I’ll be painting over them in ‘proper’ skin tones later
Thor: LOki, pLEASE,
Loki: I’m having a hard time deciding which would react badly or well when they find out they’re a pumpkin when they’re older
Thor: LOKI, PLEASE, not in puBLIC,
Loki: because obvioUSLY I WON’T BE TELLING THE PUMPKIN THEY’RE ANY DIFFERENT TO THE REST OF THE FAMILY TILL THEY FIND OUT ON THEIR OWN– [thor tackles loki in the middle of the supermarket to get him to stop yelling]
