Plopped another mini, quick update into things because I am tired(tm) and I was left alone today with no drafts to do, unless I've lost threads in the activity feed and haven't realized it: There's now a 'Halcyon Lore' section in my rules with a few details to it! These are just base and basic details to explain what to expect from the fact it exists and what it is overall with a little better detail than I've had before, as well as how I plan to work it into canon settings. <3

This lore is growing by the day, steadily connecting a bunch of dots I didn't think were connected prior to this and I love it to pieces, but I also want it to be easy to follow for anyone interacting with me, too. If anyone's interested in this kindda stuff, given it does (and frankly/honestly, has been, even before I knew any of this) play into how I write Sera, it's the 'Halcyon Lore' section under my rules! <3

Just Admit It- Part 1

I've been playing around with possible friendship dynamics of the Beast Council for fun!! I love imagining what kind of childhood they could have in the Forgotten Land all together.

What if Carol and Sillydillo are the fun-loving extroverts? Leon is the introverted one who's been smitten by Carol for a really really long time but he's too shy about it? And Gori is the friend who is an excellent observer and will bluntly tell you what he thinks (and maybe has a tendency to get grumpy when things aren't easily going his way).

Somewhat of a prequel to this other doodle comic about Leon and Carol- everyone here is still a kid ^_^

The alchemist nodded, his eyes keenly observing how Kaeya’s nostrils quivered, the edges flared and twitched in response to each stroke of the feather. 

“Anything else you could add?”

Kaeya sniffled sharply, his voice was unsteady as his body was preparing to sneeze. “Like…I hHh–I r-really nehHh…hhh….need to snHhehH–! S-sneeze–!”

Albedo hummed, still tickling Kaeya’s nose, pushing Kaeya to the breaking point. “Interesting–”

“ hHh’ihH–Ih’tTSCHhh!! eHEH’tCHH’uhh!! hHh’EH’TSHHhh!!” 

A rapid triple burst out of Kaeya, catching Albedo’s hand in the crossfire. Not that either of them actually minded. Kaeya’s whole body shook with each desperate sneeze. Four, five, six, was he done yet? Kaeya felt relieved when the sneezes had finally come out. It was torture attempting to talk about it while being tickled like that.

Oh, well a few different things! Mainly speaking, I'm an art teacher. 😁🎨 I give drawing and painting classes to both youngsters and adults! But I'm also a part-time bookstore clerk and a bit of a freelance artist as well. Something that I particularly enjoy for quick/simple contracts is pet portraits. They're always a big win with clients and animals will never not be my favorite subject to illustrate. 🥰🐾

Thoughts on Rise of Ning, Pt 2

Now that I’m through like 14 episodes of The Rise of Ning (and I’m having a amazing time), again I want to harp on the changes from the novel, and how I feel they’re logically executed:

First! LU JIAXUE! Even in the novel, he is an incredibly compelling character and in the drama, the actor brings out a fantastic intensity that makes it even better. The shot where Yining is arguing with him to spare her Third brother, and you see her whole face and just his jaw, but then the twitches of his jaw and lips convey SO MUCH repressed emotion, ahhh I was having a lot of fun.

The interesting thing about him for me (at least in the novel) is that he’s not exactly the typical scumbag ex-husband/lover you find in reincarnation/rebirth stories. He was genuinely very good to Yining when they were together, and in many other settings, he could be the endgame male lead after one key misunderstanding gets resolved, and I would cheer for him. In fact, the author did write an alternate universe extra where Yining doesn’t meet Luo Shenyuan and remarries Lu Jiaxue! 

So the romance in the novel is very context dependent; it works out because Yining meets Shenyuan in a setting filled with family struggles, slowly grows to rely on him more than anyone else and gives him her ultimate trust. All of this leads up to her falling in love with him, and this is never in doubt, even when she clears her misunderstanding of Lu Jiaxue (this relieved me a lot lol). 

I don’t really know where I’m going with this, but I just really like stories where characters falling in love for the second time dont have their first love be portrayed as ‘not really love’ or ‘loved a person unworthy of it’. Because in the novel, while I was all for Luo Shenyuan, I couldn’t say Lu Jiaxue was a scumbag who deserved to be dumped quickly. Also those two are very similar in terms of their ruthlessness and capacity for obsession, so I agree with @dangermousie, they should fuck it out. (they do it via court politics, but the direct version would be great to ;) )

So in the novel, Yining has an older sister (from the same mom Gu Minglan), who’s married off to a duke household. This sister of hers is very fierce and capable of defending her to her shitty dad (who’s unchanged across both versions, sigh). And her stepmom is actually not so cool in the novel, she is equally kind to Yining, but she doesn’t have much say. In this aspect, I much prefer Lin Hairu’s character in the drama, which I guess they derived by combining the novel! Older sister and the novel! Lin Hairu.

The change also makes sense, because in the novel, Yining only stays on in the main residence after her mom dies because of her elder sister marrying into a powerful family. In absence of this, and given that Lin Hairu would have married in only years later, it makes sense that Lady Qiao schemed to send her off to a country estate.

Also because Yining stays on the estate and grows up with Luo Shenyuan, Old Lady Luo is also, I think, a bit more accepting of him than in the drama, Again, it makes sense, in the novel, she is aware she is dying and she makes a deal with him: he gets legitimate status, and Yining gets his protection. In the drama, this logic doesn’t apply, because the grandma is looking for a suitable husband for Yining to protect her, and also she isn’t in immediate danger of dying anymore. So whether he can get added to the family registry really would require Yining to put a fair bit of thought into it. Also at this point of time in the novel, Shenyuan is the only adult son of the Luo second branch, so even shitty dad will grasp at straws to elevate his reputation.

The only one who hasn't jolted awake and fallen out of bed is Remus. He lives for the chaos and spooky, and his spider just plays so well!! Plus he caught Roman trying to sneak his sheets into the wash because he got so startled he wet the bed—one of those moments that the imp won't forget or let him live down

Oh my god Y E S!!! Vee absolutely would know how to play spooky songs on the piano/pipe organ and what better way to show off his skills than during the middle of the night where he can give his swooning Dukey front row seats to a chaotic show XD

• Name: Soleil

• Gender: Female

• General appearance: has Butch’s hair color but Annalise’s big ol fluffy hair as well as her dragon horns. She’s pretty small, taking after the both of them in that regard and as a baby dragon skin, has a bunch of blue feather peach fuzz all over her! She’s often seen wearing overalls or animal themed outfits (cow print is one of her favorites) and hats such as her pig hat and her frog hat. Annalise often puts her hair up in pig-tails.

• Personality: Soleil isn’t the brightest but she’s always well intentioned. She’s very outgoing and explorative, and she absolutely ADORES life on the farm as animals bring her great joy. She also seems naturally gifted in getting along with just about any animal she comes upon, including wild and feral animals. She’s loves the outdoors and horseback riding as well as baking and cooking with her parents. She’s still growing in those dragon teeth so she’s always chewing on something, usually a bone of some sort she’s brought along with her. She’s always eager to jump into a new adventure as well as explore, and she’s never afraid to get dirty or scrape a knee in the process.

• Special talents: as a dragonskin, she has the ability to shapeshift into her dragon form as well as breathe fire, though she’s still growing into her wings and getting the hang of it all. She also has incredible strength which can sometimes cause problems as she’s not completely aware of how strong she truly is. Though her dragon-like qualities are prominent, her demonic qualities are more so dormant at the moment, all except for her tail (and her wings in her dragon form when she’s able to fully shapeshift) which share a resemblance to Butch’s in his demon form.

• Who they like better: Honestly? I want to pick a favorite but I feel like she would absolutely adore and look up to both of them. There’s so much that Annalise and Butch enjoy doing both together and separately, so I’m confident she will be spending more than enough time with both of them doing fun things like taking care of the farm animals, knitting, horseback riding, shooting, and hunting to name a few! also, she’s pretty well behaved so neither parent needs to do much scolding… in fact, I feel like Butch and Annalise would both have little moments where they let her stay up a little later than they should or they give her extra sweets after dinner, just cause she’s so darn adorable.

• Who they take after more: definitely Annalise, though she did inherit Butch’s single brain cell. Soleil is so pure hearted and kind; I feel as though she might even have trouble hunting animals at some point, feeling bad for hurting them. She’s definitely naive to a fault, especially when she’s young, but she’s always well intentioned and fair.

• Personal headcanon(s): once as a baby, Soleil got into the hen house and ate a whole batch of eggs all at once; she didn’t hold it down for long (RIP one of Anna’s favorite sundresses). She treats Smudge like a big brother, following him around on all fours and all. She takes after Butch in terms of taste, and will eat literally anything no matter how bitter or plain. Butch and Annalise sing songs to her before bedtime using his guitar. Puts her right to sleep everytime!
