the kayak cross course in canoe slalom is wild, it starts with a huge drop into the water and ends with a required barrel roll

the entire men's pole vault final was awesome and had everything! Armand Duplantis of sweden broke the olympic record and his own world record while his fellow athletes cheered him on. Emmanouil Karalis won bronze for greece and gave Mondo (duplantis) a bandaid after he hurt his hand. Sam Kendricks, who won silver for the U.S., also cut his hand and wiped it off on his arm. Mondo's mom filmed his record breaking jump on an ipad. after making the jump, Mondo posed like Yusuf Dikeç (turkish shooter guy) and ran off to kiss his girlfriend. incredible. iconic. showstopping.

Regarding that twink getting railed in the Senate hearing room:

I can't be super happy because it's going to lead to various degrees of even more "they're sickly, sex-crazed vermin" discourse about gay men from both conservative politicians and just regular people. And OF COURSE it should not be his job to represent gay guys, as that is a role unfairly forced upon him by the marginalization of gay men...but it is a role he is in as a gay man working fairly high up in government, and he acted pretty grossly. Sex at work on someone else's desk is, generally, very bad.

On the other hand though he is an icon, a legend, and he is the moment. Having gay sex in the Senate is nothing short of an incredible and hilarious act of defiance, even if not intended as such. He got SPLIT OPEN right where RBG got confirmed to the supreme court, just like she would've wanted.

He’s an icon. He’s a legend, and he is the moment. Nicholas Ross. An unintentionally funny man with a very random sense of humor.

WARNINGS: Jokingly talking about putting a puppy(Seungmin) down, sweaty Hyunjin hugs, mention of a Haunted house, I don't know if you'll get embarrassed from the chaos that is Stray Kids but they're clumsy, mention of a strip club, I don't know what else.

The camera panned to Nicholas in Stray Kids' dressing room. He was napping across the floor with Felix on his chest. The other members were spread across the room, while Chan went with the staff to get everyone food.

Nicholas opened his eyes and screamed, scaring Felix awake. Above him was a grinning Seungmin.

"Where do you keep spawning from?" Nicholas deadpanned as he sat up.

"Please calm down. I don't feel like putting a puppy down," Nicholas said. Seungmin was jumping up and down while hugging the older boy.

"Not today, Satan!" Nicholas screamed as he ran out of the haunted house. Running behind him was a screaming Hyunjin and a laughing Minho.

Nicholas sat next to Jisung on the couch. They watched Hyunjin and Jeongin fight on the floor. Jisung bet that Jeongin would win, while Nicholas bet that someone would interrupt them.

Shortly after the bets were made, Chan stood over the wrestling boys. "What are you two doing?"

They stopped, and Jisung handed Nicholas, who was grinning, his soda. Jeongin yanked Chan down, and Hyunjin helped the youngest tackle him to the floor.

"It's official," Nicholas hummed. Jisung looked over in question. "Questions will get you hurt."

A giant pillow flew across the room and smacked Nicholas on his head. He fell off his seat and onto the floor with a loud plop.

Slowly sitting up, Nicholas made eye contact with a panicking Changbin. He grinned, "Oh, I see. You have chosen death."

Everyone was outside for a challenge. Nicholas held a bag of different vegetables while Minho marked things off their ingredients list. Jeongin sat in front of them with a giant bowl in his hands.

Jeongin looked up. Minho was looking at Nicholas with wide eyes. The bag had ripped open, and all the vegetables had fallen on the floor. A tomato had busted open as soon as it hit the concrete. Fortunately, everything else was fine.

"Get the groceries!" Nicholas screamed as he chased four bell peppers rolling down the small hill.

"Uh oh," Nicholas whispered.

It was like dominos. Hyunjin tripped over Changbin's body and fell into Seungmin, who fell on Felix, who grabbed Jeongin, who clutched Minho, who fell on him. Everyone collapsed onto the floor.

Chan, who stood next to Nicholas, sighed. "Are you guys okay?"

"I wouldn't be surprised if any of you broke a bone," Nicholas chuckled, scooping a piece of peach into his mouth.

"We don't have time for your sad feelings things. It's your turn," A staff member grumbled at Nicholas.

"Respectfully, I don't like you," Nicholas glared at the male staff member.

"I say this with as much respect as possible. *says something disrespectful*"

I can't think of a scenario off the top of my head, but I think Nicholas is unintentionally ruthless.

Everyone was goofing around on stage. Nicholas stood near the front with Felix on his back and Hyunjin leaning against his arm. Jeongin was sitting on the floor next to Nicholas, leaning against his legs.

Meanwhile, Seungmin, Minho, Changbin, and Jisung had decided to gang up on Chan. While Changbin and Seungmin were poking at Chan. Minho and Jisung were lifting his shirt off his body.

STAY's screaming alerted the group upfront of the chaos behind them.

"Last I checked, this is not a strip club!" Nicholas shouted. "Put your shirt back on!"

After watching Jisung test if bananas were slippery, Nicholas sat on the couch with a laughing Changbin. He didn't know if he wanted to join the laugh or feel sorry for Jisung.

Nicholas sat there with his :[ face. A grinning Chan sat next to him and started poking his face.

"Can you please not?" Nicholas grumbled as he side-eyed his leader.

"Got me some chips," Nicholas said. The camera was zoomed in on his eyeball. After a quiet chuckle, Nicholas finally zoomed out. "No, you can't have any."

One of Nicholas' favorite things to film was behind-the-scenes clips. Giving people a glimpse of the chaos that went behind their projects always made Nicholas happy.

What he didn't love was when the most sweatyest member, Hyunjin, tried hugging him.

"Please take a shower," Nicholas huffed, softly shoving Hyunjin off him. He hated sweaty hugs, but he hated hurting Hyunjin more.

Since GOT they’ve been using rape and abuse to humble or break a woman/Girl because they aren’t the “right” kind of woman. They don’t ride a dragon or yield a sword. They don’t fight against their period typical role in life that they were born and raised in. They’re not “A guys girl” or the “I don’t have any girl friends, they’re too much drama” types who prefer the company of men to women, who would rather train with a sword and not learn embroidery. They don’t have dialogue that vaguely sounds more 21st century than Middle Ages.

These women are seen as of less value than our little dragon riding, sword and fist fighting tomboys. So they need to be taught that if you had just been more like this or more like that you wouldn’t have been brutalized and abused. The things that were done to you by other people is all your fault and you deserved it.

This show/franchise is not even in the same room as feminism.

The sad thing is, this is not what I got from the books of asoiaf at all. Women's experience was never told in juxtaposition to others. There is no humbling or brutalizing other women as a "punishment" for not being better, more rebellious, or bolder than others. The books tell stories of suffering and that's it. The way shows and fandoms decide to try and force other characters into another one's story for the sole purpose of comparing them so they prove that stanning one means having a moral high ground over another character's stans is the most idiotic thing to ever have happened among fandoms, to say the least. Especially when the two characters in question don't even know each other.

Just look at the way Sansa and Dany are treated in the fandom. Have a shot for every time Sansa in King's Landing is called a tradwife as if this wasn't a girl in middle school trying to survive they're talking about, or for every time she's called jealous of Dany. Imagine if a stranger girl with three dragons cames knocking on your door demanding that you and all of your people and their mama bend the knee to her and you are the jealous one and the villain because you just... Don't? Also, you deserve to be threatened with death when you pose a reasonable question, and you need to take it and be better and shut up. Then you're a "girls' girl" deserving of respect, etc.

We want strong female characters to think for themselves, except when that "thinking for oneself" isn't the same thing as kissing the ground the fan favourite girl walks on.

If only fandoms paid more mind to what makes a character likeable or unlikeable in their eyes BASED ON THE CHARACTER ITSELF, and not on their perspective on their faves, interacting with them would be way more fun. Books/shows like asoiaf/GOT or F&B/HotD aren't places where you just choose a character you like and that's it, she's an icon she's a legend and she is the moment. If it was, it would either be a story for kids or a hell for Mare Sues' fans. As long as you treat asoiaf characters like deities that can do no wrong and everyone else as villains in need of redemption, you should step back and read something else.

This is something that needs to be accepted even between writers and directors, btw. Just look at what F&B was turned into. Girlboss vs Girlfail. Blacks got the Girlboss, the virtuous rightful heir, good mother fine ruler, Greens' got the Girlfail, the rape enabler, the boy mom, the tradwife, you name it.

No, it doesn't matter that the latter is doing everything she can possibly do. She was a piece of shit the moment she stopped toiling behind the former because everyone is meant to be like or kneel before girlboss with dragon. Only then are your ambitions respectable. If not, fuck you, you're nothing. Everything that happens to you is your fault. I'll be in the front seats cheering for when everything you love is ripped brutally from you.

Even when your grown-up son rapes a maid. Even when girlboss with dragon threatens to put your people to the torch because you won't bend the knee.

TL;DR: There's no need to compare/stone certain female characters for being what they are instead of a completely different type. If all of them were tomboyish with swords or feminine with embroidery, it would be boring. You aren't better than anyone for having preferences. Also, learn how to blame men when they fuck up. It's great for the bowel.

i finally rotated pact creature design in my brain enough to post about it. to all the people who sent me asks wanting to hear my thoughts explaining Why Pact Creatures Are So Good this ones for you.

the core of pact's monster design boils down to one very good fact about pact's worldbuilding: in the world of pact, the universe canonically loves a good story. magic literally runs on themes and ideas. subsequently, strong themes aren't the end result of pact's monster design so much as they are the most fundamental aspect of it--meaningful themes and narratives are such a textually important part of how pact monsters work that one bogeyman outright tries to start a conversation with blake by, upon noticing the birdhouse in his soul (tm), asking if birds are important to him.

what really seals the deal on this being fascinating is that pact monsters aren't invented wholesale--a lot of the book hinges on offering its own explanations for preexisting folklore or urban legend. pact takes a variety of common threads in the way cultural myths & monsters are presented, picks out the conceptions with compelling implications, and distills them into one design so thematically coherent and clarifying that it makes you go "ohhh, why aren't All ghosts/dragons/fae like this? this is Exactly What They're Supposed To Be."

like, we all know that ghosts are dead people, and oftentimes the appearance and/or behavior they're written as having is either implicitly or explicitly based on reenactments of their past life/how they died, and sometimes they're depicted as lucid but more often than not they're depicted more like broken or warped remnants of a person, and sometimes they make things colder/give off Bad Emotional Vibes/etc. those are generally true assertions about how ghosts are often culturally presented.

pact takes that and explicitly declares that ghosts are what happens when something so bad happens that an imprint of the resultant misery is left on the fabric of the universe. some ghosts appear horrifying because their appearance is warped and exaggerated beyond what's realistically possible to match how awful whatever happened to them felt. some ghosts are more lucid because their imprint is more recent, or has been strengthened and fed by human attention instead of left to decay. some ghosts are less lucid because they were forgotten. when ghosts make the atmosphere feel awful to be in, that's because the ghost isn't just the imprint of the person, it's an imprint of the awful thing itself. incredibly interesting! it feels so very much like the absolute heart of what ghost stories are about--about the grief and horror of being impacted by the ever-present echo of something terrible, about something so viscerally wretched happening that reality itself cannot forget it, about the emotionally powerful interactions between someone still-living and the memory of someone already long gone.

(pact also gives an aside that, in very rare scenarios, neutral or arguably even positive occasions which leave a sufficiently strong enough impression can also become ghosts. genuinely fascinating expansion.)

& the thing here is that pact does this for creatures like ghosts that are already richly thematic and iconic, but it Also does it for creatures with less obvious theming. how do dragons work? what's pact's underlying explanation for their position as immortal, powerful, regal, fire-breathing* fantasy monsters?

*&, depending on the media, sometimes ice-breathing or poisonous or whatever else

well, you see, dragons are recursive loops. "dragons are recursive loops" is perhaps one of the Top All Time sentences in the entire book, and the delightful thing is that, in addition to sounding excellent, it makes sense.

that's how they generate and spit out so much of whatever their element is. they're snarls. they're ouroboroses. they're something feeding into itself, self-sustaining for thousands of years, drowning anything which threatens it in torrents of whatever the self-feeding element is--fire, sometimes, but it could be poison, or ice, or whatever else, and that's why you've probably heard of ice dragons in addition to classic fire dragons. Dragons Are Recursive Loops. recursiveness is, after all, a form of immortality.

or, like, fae? we all know that faeries are incomprehensibly old/outright immortal Tricky Little Bitches who like to manipulate people while posing in an inhumanly/horrifically beautiful fashion and going "teehee." pact takes that to a fantastically surreal level of extreme artifice, one that's almost grotesque in its dreamlike nature--they have all lived for so very long that, to them, boredom is worse than death, and so they have complicated social games spanning centuries, and speak in the most practiced of misleading wordplay, and perfectly curate their forests so that even the smallest pebble is an intentionally-chosen setpiece for their play. they graduated from handjobs a couple dozens of millennia ago--now they're more into erotic-poetic descriptions of full-body degloving. you will not notice when a faerie steals and replaces your child, because you are very young and stupid compared to them, and playing-pretend at being your child is only the briefest of trifles in their unfathomably long lifespan.

the other good bit is that pact explicitly acknowledges that faeries run on what is colloquially deemed Bullshit--the universe likes a good story, and faeries have gotten very good at telling it a moving story. if a faerie tells a good enough story about having a sword that breaks the laws of physics, then that is what their sword will do. and so the way to combat faeries is not to out-bullshit them--because no one is out-bullshitting a being with thousands of years of bullshitting practice--but to say "no, that's fucking stupid and made up" until their implausibly long sword acts like a sword of that size actually should and shatters on the spot.

& all of these writing decisions feel so naturally truthful to what these creatures are Supposed to be--they're really not wholly new takes, they're a presentation of preexisting ideas in a way that gets why those ideas appeal to people and goes full-throttle on all the most thematically rich or otherwise narratively interesting parts. It's Good Writing. I Like It. you could spend an entire essay breaking down the presentation of literally any single one of pact's creatures, it's that compelling in its reflection and organization of Ideas About Creatures.
