When I went to Rome some days ago I helped a french couple who booked the same hotel I booked because they didn't speak italian and were struggling to find their room. we all are humans and we should help each other every time we can and of course I helped them. but like. they bought a cherry pie in the evening and told me to have a slice as a thank you.... my heart bursts with love for humanity in moments like this. The next morning over breakfast the woman told me to sit with them and that she was happy she met me. It made my entire life I swear. I can't stop thinking about them

do you think you may be able to write me an insecure plus size reader with preserum steve?
Prettiest Girl in The World
A/N: Pre-serum Steve makes me think 1940s so I set it in that time but if its not what you wanted let me know and i’ll redo it! I think you’re absolutely gorgeous (and so does Steve hehe) 💕☘️
WARNINGS: Mentions of body dysmorphia, heights, tight spaces, anxiety about size/taking up space, weight
Tumblr media
“You excited Princess?” Steve squeezed your hand as you walked into the fair.
Steve had planned the sweetest date night ever, dinner and then a trip to the carnival so you could end your night with a big stuffed Teddy and a mouthful of Cotton Candy.
Being the gentleman, he is he paid for your ticket, hand going to the small of your back, leading you through the gate.
“Stevie, this has been the best date ever!” You squealed, kissing his cheek, leaving a red lipstick mark. Blush rose to his cheeks. Truth is, he was just a happy he got to walk around with a girl as as you.
You looked so pretty in your light blue wrap dress with white poka dots. It hugged your curves in all the right places and you had done your hair all cute. The dress was his new favourite thing and all he wanted to do was take a picture so he could remember it forever.
Tumblr media
Bucky couldn’t believe it when you showed up next to him. “How’d you land that dime piece?” He’d say while nudging Steve arms. “My endless charm and good looks.” Bucky laughed, slapping his friend on the back encouragingly “No but seriously, how much you pay her?” Steve punched his friend on the arm.
“She works at the arts supplies store I go to. I kept going back every day to see her, buy a single pencil each time and she kinda caught on and asked if I wanted to go to the pictures with her. Nearly passed out with excitement, not before I said yes though.”
And here you two were, hand in hand walking towards the Milk Bottle Toss so Steve could get you the teddy bear he promised you.
“It’s ok if you don’t win honey these games are rigged anyways.” You put your hand on his shoulder as he got ready to throw.
“I promised you that bear so you’re getting the bear.” He said, seriousness in his voiced.
He missed all 3 bottles and almost hit a toddler walking behind you.
“Out of luck, Kid.” Said the old, bearded attendant.
“Another round.” Steve straightened out his jacket, stretching his arms.
“Stevie, baby you don’t have to spend all your money on the bear.”
“Don’t worry.” He put his arm around your waist, squeezing at your love handles a little.
“A kiss for good luck would help though.” He grinned at you sheepishly.
You rolled your eyes, grabbing the man’s face in your hand and planting a fat kiss on his lips.
Steve was stunned, his first real kiss. Blush rose to his cheeks and his eyes were wide in amazement.
He took a big gulp, turning to the attendant “I can do this all day.”
The confidence of the kiss led to Steve hitting all 3 bottles with one throw. You jumped in delight, clapping your hands as the attendant handed over the bear. You hugged it tightly, kissing Steve again.
“Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you” You squealed pulling him into a big hug.
“Anything for my girl” he smirked smugly.
“Hey, let’s go on the Ferris Wheel, you can see the fireworks from way up high!” Steve looked at you excitedly.
Your palms started to sweat, but you weren’t afraid of heights. It was the anxiety of the seats. The all too small bench they put you on, whether the metal harness would go over your head and over your stomach. The fear of embarrassment when Steve realises that his chubby girlfriend can’t fit on a seat next to her boyfriend like the other skinny girls. How everyone would look and stare and wonder why a future US Soldier would be seen with a girl like you. Your face went white at the suggestion.
“Hey pretty girl, its ok it aint that high, I’ll hold your hand.” Steve smiled at you, blissfully unaware at your insecurities, not even giving your size a thought, heck all he saw was his beautiful girlfriend in front of him.
You simply nodded and let him take your hand towards the line.
You got to the front of the line, next in tow for the seat. The attendant lifted the rod, letting the couple before you free as they skipped off, you noticed all the space they had on either side of them. How you could never be the same.
You took in a deep shaky breath. “It’s alright, ladies first.” Steve gestured to let you slide in your first, you hit the arm rest and sat with your thighs laid flat, extenuating their mass. He squeezed in next to you, granted he sat happily but the image of the scrawny man squashed in a seat next to a clearly big girl haunted you.
The rod went over your heads, sitting comfortably against your stomach as a small roll formed on top of it. Your belly clearly squashed in.
“I like this bench; means I get to be nice and close to you.” Steve purred in your ear as you started to rise. His hand falling to your thigh, squeezing slightly for comfort.
“You sure I’m not taking too much room?” You looked at him hesitantly.
“Nonsense and why would it matter? The closer I am to you the happier I am.”
“I’m not the skinniest girl at the fair Steve, I don’t know why you even wanted to go out with me.”
“What? Who said something? I’ll kill em.” Anger flashed in his eyes.
“No one said anything but they sure as hell are thinking it.”
“So? Who cares what anyone else thinks. Gosh, I think you’re beautiful Y/N. I always think people are looking and wondering what a beautiful girl like you is doing with some skinny schmuck like me. I mean even Bucky thinks you’re cute.” He looked at you, shaking his head a little.
“You really think I’m beautiful?”
“Not just beautiful, I think you’re the prettiest girl in the world. Besides, I like how you look in that dress, gosh, I like how you look in anything, in the apron at the shop when it gets all tight around your waist giving you those movie star curves, I even think you’d look good in nothing at all.” Steve winked at you, whispering the last line in your ear.
You couldn’t speak at his little speech about you, tears threatened to spill as no one had ever told you you’re beautiful like that.
Steve lifted his arm up over your shoulder “Now, scooch a little closer, I want as much of you as I can get.”
You finally relaxed into Steve’s arms, laying your head on his shoulder as he drew soft circles on your arm. You both looked up at the sky, enjoying the firework display. His mouth coming down to place a soft kiss on your forehead.
“My beautiful girl.” He whispered in your ear.

first day of work but also pcd is beating my ass so Thoughts
- yeosang would take pictures all the things you said you liked on a trip to the mall, goes back the next day to get them all as little gifts to give you
- yunho is the boyfie to cuddle you and squish you if you try to leave.
“five more minutes *pout* please my love *puppy dog eyes* pretty please”
- felix would totally make baking into a competition if you both were bakers
- minghao would be the type of best friend to just enter your house when you aren’t there to make you food and have a sleepover if you were having a bad day
teehee you’re welcome (- 3 -)
oMG I LOVE THIS ALL THANK YOU TAWNI. good luck with work and stuff you got this!!!
this yeosang thought has me in tears. it all started when you went shopping at the mall together for the first time and you pointed out a few jewelry pieces you liked, nothing too fancy though. and the idea pops into his head to but the one that you said you liked most. but, it was still kind of early on in your relationship so he felt too shy to get it for you right away. the next day he happened to drive past the same mall and decided to hop in and grab that piece of jewelry. issue was, he got into the store and completely forgot which one you wanted most. so, from then on, he started snapping quick pictures of you favorite items so he’d never forget exactly what gift you’d love the most. he’s always subtle and bashful about it, and though you find it to be the sweetest thing ever, he always says it’s no big deal.
this is factual about yunho. “noooo don’t goooo” is a phrase you routinely hear, approximately every time you use the restroom in his presence. yes, at this point, that one’s more of a joke, but especially if you’re leaving for the day or even a few hours, he always wants “just five more minutes.” he just loves you so much and would rather die than let you go while you’re cuddling. always uses his irresistible puppy eyes, his strength, or both to keep you from being anywhere but in his arms.
baking competitions with felix >>> if you like to bake/are good at it the competitions are oddly serious?? not that you don’t joke around n stuff but like. y’all are taking this seriously !! when you’re both done, you make the members try everything without knowing who made which treat, and when people like yours more he doesn’t know whether to feel sulky or proud. he’s all “but don’t you guys like my baking” *pouts* but also “yeahhh that’s my baby get it !!!” there’s also the chance that you’re like me and can’t bake to save your life. even then he tries to have banking competitions with you. only thing is, he just ends up making it for you, and he’s all sweet and cute like “no no it’s okay, you didn’t know it’s not your fault” or “i got this, you just gotta mix it like this.” you both kinda give up on doing competitions because it gets too complicated and messy and he just ends up baking a singular thing with you, trying to teach you how he makes his brownies.
we all know i’m in love with minghao so im currently crying because that’s so cute :,) he has a copy of your key (he’s the only other person who does) and he knows where everything in your apartment is. so when you text him about how rough your day is going, he gets off work as early as he can, because no matter how much you tried to make it seem like it’d be fine, he could tell just from your texts how bad it was. he rushes off to your apartment, but stops at a grocery store along the way because he remembers that you at the last of your favorite snacks the last time he was over (which was approximately two days ago). so, with his hands full of snacks to last days (that you’ll both probably gorge on tonight), he steps into your house and starts cooking right away, pulling up your favorite recipe for the food you said you were craving yesterday. all by the time you get home, he has dinner on the table, his laptop, blankets, pillows, and snacks set up for a movie, and the herbal teas he left at your place a long time ago pulled out to help you relax.

A/N: Just like Sweet Tarts, whether Reader is adopted or biological is up for interpretation seeing as I never specified. Also, big thanks to Fish and Elle for reading this and helping me out!
Tumblr media
“This has to be your worst idea yet.”
“I agree because you are clearly going to back out.”
“I will not!”
“Sure, Clark.”
With a huff, Clark crossed his arms. “You’re insufferable.”
Bruce chuckled and waved his friend off. “Just go sit down, this will work I swear.”
Clark gave Bruce a look before taking his paddle and sat in his chair. This really was a stupid idea, what would happen when it didn’t work? He hated the idea of paying for a date, letting alone having Bruce pay for it so he could ensure he got one. But all the funds went to various charities, so that was a plus.
You peeked out of the curtain, and saw the crowd gathering in the auction room. Bruce had set up an auction where various socialites would be auctioned off for a single date to the highest bidder. Being a Wayne, let alone Bruce’s sister, you were a shoo-in for some really high bids.
Each person represented various charities, and you were assigned to various orphanages across Gotham. You thought it would be good to support other kids who were victims of losing their parents considering you lost yours along with Bruce that night.
Taking another peek into the crowd, you saw Alfred sitting there with Dick, who looked too excited for a thirteen-year-old kid to be at an auction. Dick caught your eye and waved happily at you, his eyes sparkling with amusement. You waved your fingers at him, earning a smile from Alfred who totally caught you peeking.
Next to Alfred was Clark, Bruce’s best friend, and fellow Justice League member. Feeling the heat rise in your cheeks, you quickly hid behind the curtain and closed your eyes. What the hell was Clark doing here?
“Y/N, you doing alright?”
Turning to look behind you, you saw Bruce standing there with his signature charismatic smile. He was being auctioned off for a date a well tonight,
“Why didn’t you tell me Clark was here?” you hissed.
“I didn’t know he was coming,” he shrugged. “Dick was excited to see him.”
“That’s because the kid looks up to him, figuratively and literally,” you argued.
Bruce watched you with a sly smile. “Besides, why is it such a big deal that Clark is here or not?”
“I-- oooh,” you growled. “You know exactly why, asshole.”
Letting out a chuckle, Bruce patted your shoulder. “Go get ready, we’re about to start.”
Giving him a glare, you went and found your seat and crossed your arms. Stupid Bruce and his stupid plans. You weren’t sure what he was hiding up his sleeve, but when you’re older brother was The Batman you learned to watch out for the tiny giveaways.
Bruce was planning something, and you were going to figure out what it was.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, Welcome to our annual Charity Auction! This year we are auctioning off a single date with some of Gotham’s most notable residents! The funds for this year will go to several charities predetermined by our wonderful participants! Now without further ado, let’s get on with the show!”
The announcer walked to the podium as the curtain rose to reveal a grand stage and all the participants off to the side hidden out of sight. Across the stage sat Bruce, leaning back in his seat as he talked with several friends of his.
“So, what did Bruce do to convince you to join this year?”
Looking to your right, you saw Kate was hovering over your shoulder.
“Last year, Dick was sick and Alfred was called away for a family matter.” You explained, Kate should remember why you weren’t at the auction last year. She helped come up with the cover story.
Batman and Robin had a rough time that night on patrol, thanks in no part to Scarecrow. Dick had gotten a large dose of his fear toxin, and Bruce was too injured to console him. Alfred had to make sure Bruce was alright before the next day, and left you with a hysterical Dick until the antidote kicked in.
You had decided to stay that night because Dick was plastered to your side, and Bruce understood completely. Surprisingly enough, during the auction, Clark had shown up and helped you take care of the little boy wonder, even going as far as falling asleep with Dick curled into his side.
Thinking back on the memory, you couldn’t help but smile. That was one of the first times you and Clark had any time alone together.
“And now for bachelorette number three, Y/N Wayne.”
Jerking your head up, you smiled and rose to your feet, and walked onto the stage. You must have spaced out the first two people during your trip down memory lane. Waving politely, you caught the eye of Clark who only smiled brightly at you.
Seeing his smile made you feel lighter than air.
“Miss Wayne represents the orphanage charities all across Gotham, hoping to restore the buildings and ensure a bright future for the children.”
Looking at the auctioneer, you gave him an impressed look. He was playing it up really well, not like he needed it to. You were a Wayne, and was guaranteed to rake in some serious money. You just hoped it would be enough.
“We’ll start the bidding at $500,000. Do I see $500,000?”
All at once, several paddles went up, including Clark’s. You couldn’t fight the confused look on your face, what the hell was he doing? That had to be almost five times the amount he made in a year working for the Daily Planet! So what the hell was he doing spending it all on a date with you?
You stood on the stage as the prices ranked higher and higher, Clark’s paddle not once lowering. The price was almost $2,000,000 and Clark was fighting off with another guy, all for a date with you. You would be feeling proud if you weren’t so concerned for Clark’s livelihood.
“$2.5 million? Do I see $2.5 million?”
Watching the crowd, you watched as the second guy gleaned at Clark and loosened his tie almost as if he was afraid of what would happen to him if he kept trying to outbid him. He lowered his paddle, and Clark just beamed.
“Sold for $2.5 million!”
Clark let out a sigh of relief, Dick looking at him with astonishment. “How’d you get all that money?”
Shrugging, he sent Dick a smile. “You’ll have to wait and see.”
Maybe, this wasn’t such a bad plan after all.
It took a few hours, but eventually, the auction ended and Clark was escorted out of the room with Alfred and Dick beside him.
“You know, this could be a dream come true for you.” Dick grinned. “How long did you have to bully B into giving you the money?”
Looking down at the kid, Clark chuckled. Of course Dick figured it out, he was living with Batman after all. “Not long, he wanted to make sure his sister didn’t end up with some creep.”
Dick chuckled, adjusting his jacket. “Yeah, that sounds like him.”
The three of them waited for you and Bruce to show, ready to take you home for a well-deserved rest. The auction went off without a hitch, and it was all thanks to Bruce and the effort he put in.
Turning the corner, you and Bruce smiled seeing them. Nudging his shoulder, you looked up at him. “Are you going to tell me how Clark got $2.5 million?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Crossing your arms, you gave Bruce an unimpressed look. “Sure, but why do I feel like it has something to do with you?”
“You think everything has to do with me.”
“Do I need to bring up your nightly activities?”
Bruce didn’t get another word out before Dick came running up to you with his arms wide, diving in for a hug.
“Y/N! You did great up there! Sure beats last year right?” he chuckled.
Smiling at him, you ruffled his hair. “I don’t know kiddo, I actually enjoyed my time with you.”
“I agree, it was nice to relax for a night.”
Looking up, you saw Clark smiling down at you with his signature boy scout smile. You always loved the way his eyes crinkled when he smiled, and the little scrunch of his nose.
“You want to talk about relaxing? Where the hell did you get $2.5 mil?”
“Yeah, you were practically shooting lasers, Clark.” Dick chimed in.
Looking between you and Dick, Clark shrugged with a smile. “You’ll have to wait and see.”
***
You stood in the Batcave, by the zeta transport waiting quietly for Clark to show and pick you up. Bruce and Dick stood by your side to keep you company while you waited. Bruce was half-dressed in his Batman suit while Dick was nursing a cup of Earl Grey tea.
“What time did he say he would be here?” you asked, checking your watch again.
“Relax, Y/N.” Dick chuckled, “You know, if I didn’t know any better I would think that you have a thing for Superman.”
“Well, you do know better.” you huffed. It wasn’t the standing that bothered you, in all honestly it was the wait. What if Clark decided to cancel on you? Yeah, he already paid over $2 million for it but that didn’t mean he had to show up.
You shook the thoughts out of your head. Clark wasn’t that kind of guy, you knew he wasn’t. Clark Kent was one of the sweetest guys in the universe, there was no one else you would rather spend your night with than him.
Which brought up other thoughts. Bruce was instructed to not let you dress fancy at all, leaning you closer to casual jeans and a shirt as your attire. Whatever Clark was planning, you weren’t going to find out until he told you.
There was a bright flash and Clark stepped out of the zeta tube, wearing his normal apparel with his glasses propped up on his nose.
“Hey, you ready to go?”
You gave him a nod, grabbing your purse. “Born ready.”
Clark smiled and looked at you. He thought you looked perfect tonight and hoped you would enjoy the date he was taking you on.
“Be sure to have her home on time,” Dick scolded, grinning into his cup of tea. “And no funny business.”
Bruce looked down at him and nudged his shoulder ruffling his hair. “Isn’t that my job, chum?”
“Let’s be real here B, no one takes Batman seriously without Robin there to kick their face in.”
You couldn’t fight the giggles, covering your mouth to muffle them. Walking over, you squished Dick’s face and kissed his forehead. “Make sure you listen to Bruce and Alfred okay?”
Dick gave you a nod, hugging you tightly. “Have fun.”
Running your fingers through his hair, you kissed the top of his head before letting him go. Turning to Bruce, he pulled you tightly into a hug and kissed your cheek. “Be careful, we’re just one call away if you need us.”
“Bruce, I’m with Superman. I’ll be okay.”
Looking at Alfred you pointed at the two boys next to you. “Give me a call if none of them are listening, okay?”
Alfred smiled, “Of course Miss Y/N, now go have fun.”
Turning back to Clark, he offered you his arm before leading you back towards the zeta tube. “Don’t worry, she’ll be safe with me, and we’ll be back before midnight.”
Bruce nodded, waving you two goodbye as you disappeared into the blinding light. Coming out on the other side, you were greeted with the fresh air one wouldn’t normally get in Gotham. The scent of fresh crops, dirt, and manure filled the air as you opened your eyes to the setting sun of the Kansas skyline. It was a beautiful shade of orange with pinks and blues dusted across the sky, you never got sunsets like this back home either.
“Clark, it’s beautiful out here.” you smiled.
He watched you fondly, his eyes not leaving you for a second. “It really is.”
Turning to look at him, you felt the heat rise in your cheeks. Keeping a hold of your arm, Clark led you down the streets of Smallville towards a truck that was parked against the curb. Opening the door, Clark reached in and pulled out two plaid shirts, and handed one of them to you.
“Clark, what are we doing?” you laughed, sliding your arms into the flannel sleeves as he pulled on his own.
“You’ll have to wait and see,” he grinned. “Hop in.”
Giving Clark a look, you walked to the passenger seat and climbed into the truck. Starting it up, the air was filled with an old Randy Travis song effectively setting the mood for the drive. Leaning back in the seat, you looked out the window as Clark drove off, heading out of town limits.
With the window open, you felt the wind blow in your face and embraced the fresh air. Cornfields flew by as Clark drove down the highway, towards a large empty field. Off in the distance, you could see tall structures you made out to be a ferris wheel and various tents.
Keeping your concerns to yourself, you watched as he turned into the field and parked the truck. Turning it off, Clark quickly hopped out of it before you could even open the door. Walking around to your side, Clark quickly opened your door and held his hand out to you.
With a smile, you took it as he helped you out of the truck. “Shall we?”
“A state fair?” You laughed, hopping out of the vehicle.
Once on the ground, you noticed you were practically pressed against Clark’s chest and were forced to look up at him. You were so close, you could smell his body wash and felt his breath fan over your face.
Clark smiled down at you, holding your hand tightly in his. Brushing his thumb over the back of your hand, he pulled it up and pressed a soft kiss to it. “I thought this would be a great place to take a city girl such as yourself.”
Trying to hide your embarrassment, you pushed the bridge of his glasses up too high and huffed. “Stop doing that,” you muttered and walked towards the entrance to the fair. Clark’s laughter could be heard from behind you as he jogged to catch up with your fast pace. Slipping his hand back into yours, he paid for tickets and led you into the fairgrounds.
Walking around, you couldn’t help but admire the things around you. Banners were hung everywhere, with signs pointing to all the attractions. There were rides, games, and food stands all over the place.
Gripping his hand, you pointed at a booth selling cotton candy and grinned excitedly. “Come on Clark!” You laughed and pulled him towards the stand and watched him order a large cotton candy for you to share.
Finding a spot on a nearby bench, you sat and pulled off pieces and stuck them into your mouth humming happily as they dissolved. You couldn’t remember the last time you went to a fair like this, and the feeling excited you.
Clark watched as you ate the sugary snack, his blue eyes shining in adoration. He loved the way your eyes lit up with every bite and the cute little hum you made when you tasted it.
“Now are you going to tell me where you got the money to buy our little date?”
“You’ll just make fun of me,”
“I make fun of you anyway,” you giggled.
Clark gave you a look before taking the piece of cotton candy out of your hand and ate it with a grin. “Now you’re just being mean,”
Nudging his shoulder, you looked up at him. “Did you forget who I have for an older brother?”
Stifling a laugh, Clark nodded and leaned closer smoothly wrapping his arm around your shoulder. “You’re right, being mean is a Wanye trait. I’d hate to see how mean an offspring of Bruce could be.”
Laughing along with him, you couldn’t help but agree. A biological offspring of Bruce would be a nightmare, you only hoped that the kid’s mother would be a calm and relaxed person.
“If you don’t tell me, I’ll just assume you got the money from Lex.”
Clark gave you an unimpressed look, “Now that’s not funny.”
“I find that I am quite funny,” you grinned.
Dropping his head in defeat, Clark huffed. “Bruce gave me the money,” he admitted. “He wanted to make sure his sister didn’t end up on a date with a creep.”
Taking another bite, you looked at him. “I’m going to assume there is more to this, you don’t go on a lot of dates Clark.”
If you had a dime for every time you saw Superman blush, you would only have five cents which isn’t a lot but it was worth it to see the man of steel blush.
“Clark?”
Turning away, Clark bit his lip. How was he supposed to tell you he set this up with Bruce, so he could get a date with you? But he didn’t need to say anything, you watched his expression and the sudden uptick in his nervousness. You grew up with the world’s greatest detective, of course, you would notice when he was crushing hard on his best friend’s sister.
“You and Bruce set this up, didn’t you?” you asked.
Clark’s silence only confirmed it.
“Clark, you know all you had to do was ask,” you smiled, putting a hand on his shoulder. Clark turned to look at you. “I would have said yes.”
Adjusting his body, Clark turned to face you fully. Cupping your face in his hands, Clark pressed his lips to yours in a soft kiss.
Letting out a gasp, you wrapped your arms around his shoulders and pulled him closer. After a few moments, Clark pulled away and rubbed his nose against yours with a smile. “Maybe next time, I’ll just start with that.”
“Maybe you should, watch Bruce have an aneurysm.” you giggled.
Pecking your lips once more, Clark looked around and saw it was getting dark. “Come on, I have a special place to watch the fireworks.”
Rising from your bench, Clark threw your empty cotton candy stick in the trash and pulled you down the path towards a secluded area. “Hang on tight,” he grinned.
“Hang on to wha-- ah!”
Before you knew it, Clark had his arms wrapped around you before he flew into the air. Gripping onto him for dear life, you buried your face in his shirt afraid to look at the things around you.
“Y/N, open your eyes.” he chuckled.
Carefully peeking an eye open, you saw that both of you were hovering a good height above the ground and watched as the fireworks exploded in the distance with loud pops. Once you got comfortable, you leaned your head against his chest and held on tightly watching the fireworks timing them to the beat of his heart.
“It’s beautiful up here, Clark.” you smiled.
“Not as beautiful as you,”
Leaning up, you pressed your lips to his with the fireworks going off behind you.

The Arrangement Chapter 26 (a)
Tumblr media
Story summary: Desperately in need of money, you answered the questionable ad. AKA-Arranged marriage AU featuring Y/N and Yoongi
Chapter Summary: More drunk Jin and Yoongi
AN: This week at school was busy so here is a partial chapter. I will post the rest by Saturday Evening.
Previous Chapter here
You handed Jin the bottle and laughed as you followed him to the kitchen.  He pulled out a fancy wine opening gadget and sat there, entranced by it. He carefully placed it on top of the corked lid and pressed the button. A drilling sound filled the air. “What?” Jin asked, looking over at you, “You're not impressed?” He gestured to the opener, clearly thinking you should be.
You smirked, putting a hand on your hip. ”I was a bartender , I could open one of these blind folded, with a pin knife.”
“Well aren’t you just fancy.” Jin teased as he sat a wine glass on the counter.. “Yoongi-ah, do you want any wine or are you sticking with whiskey?” Jin shouted across the living room.
Yoongi looked back up from his phone. “No wine.”
Jin pulled down another glass for just himself and poured. “Describe this wine to me.” HE swished it.
“It’s red and it has a cat on the label.” You said, taking the glass.
Jin pursed his plush lips together, “Really? That’s why you bought the wine?”
You cocked your head to the side, “Hey Yoongi. Why did we buy this wine? Do you remember? It’s red. It has a cat annnnd…..?” You hoped he would play along.
“And it was cheap!” He yelled back.
You smiled and nodded your head in agreement, looking at Jin, “And it was cheap.”
Jin sniffed the liquid and took a sip. He looked vaguely offended but went back for another.
“Not so bad for cheap wine, huh?” You said, taking a sip of yours.
“You two need to accompany me on a wine tasting some time. “ Jin chided. However, he made no attempt to sit the glass down. He walked into the living room and sat down on the pink loveseat.
You loitered in between the kitchen and living room, uncertain of where to go. Red wine plus white couches seemed like a terrible idea; you should have brought vodka.
“Come on over,” Jin waved. “Don’t worry, if you spill the wine I’ll make Yoongi buy me a new couch.”
Yoongi looked over at Jin in slow motion, processing what had just been said. “I do like this couch actually.” He bounced up and down lightly on the white sofa. “Come over here, spill the wine, and then Jin will give it to me. We’ll just throw a blanket over the stains.” He licked his lips quickly trying to hide the smile growing on his lips.
Jin slapped his knee, laughing. “Nice try Yoongi.”
Oh my god. Were they besties now? You pondered as you walked over and sat on the white couch, between Yoongi and Jin.  “You two have had quite the afternoon it seems. Who won the game?”
“LA.” Yoongi said stretching, the tiniest bit of his tummy showing, as his shirt pulled up.
“It went by fast,” Jin added as he scrolled through his phone. “It was at the Staples Center. You’ve been to LA, right Yoongi?”
“Yeah,” Yoongi responded boredly.
“Really? What for?” You asked, excitedly, turning towards him.
He rubbed the back of his neck. “It’s not a big deal. I went out there for a collaboration and did some radio interviews.”
“Agust D!” Jin hyped out of nowhere, causing you to laugh. “Have you ever been to the US?” Jin asked you.
You snorted, “Uh, no. Do I look like I’ve ever traveled anywhere?” You sipped your cat wine for emphasis.
“You’ll get there someday,” You heard Yoongi say quietly. You didn't think Jin heard. You smiled and looked over at Yoongi who was now looking down at his hands.
“There’s a big trip to Japan in the Spring. You’ll probably go along, right?” Jin commented.
You raised your eyebrows, “I don’t know. Am I?” You asked Yoongi
He smirked, “I don’t think I’ll fire you between now and then so yeah.”
“You’re so mean!” You teased and playfully shoved his arm.
Jin laughed. “I’m staaaaaarving. When will the food be here?” Jin asked, dramatically draping his lanky body over the side of the loveseat.
You picked up your phone to check the app. “They just turned down the street, I’ll go meet them at the security desk,” You said and started to stand up.
“No, no. I’ll get it. You two are my guests.” Jin got up decisively. “Text me the order so I can double check it before they leave.” He headed towards the door before you could argue. You sat back down and texted him the information before placing your phone back down on the coffee table.
“You know you’re going, right?” You heard Yoongi say.
“Huh?” You asked, looking over.
“To Japan. I mean, I guess if you want to.” He clarified.
You smirked, “Oh yeah? You sure you’re not going to fire me between now and then?”
“And go through an interview process all over again?” He asked, sounding exasperated.  “No. That would be way too much work.”
You pouted. He would always say the sweetest things and then follow them up with smart ass comments. It usually didn’t bother you; you were similar. But for some reason, just now, it did.
“What? You don’t want to go?” He asked, noting your change in demeanor.
You exhaled slowly. “That’s not it.” You shook your head, shaking your feelings away. “I look forward to it. Like I said, I haven’t been anywhere.”
“YN, you know I’m not actually going to fire you, right?” He asked, quite seriously.
You scoffed, “Yeah. Don’t worry. I’m sure you don’t want to have to deal with your phone ringing in your office again or making your own coffee.”
Yoongi winced slightly. He sipped the whiskey and thought for a few seconds. “Are you mad at me?”
“No,” you answered too quickly.
Yoongi looked at you. “I didn’t do anything.”
“I know.” You uncrossed your legs, “I’m not mad.”
Yoongi eyed you suspiciously.
“I'm fine. Really. I'm looking forward to going. I'm just tired." You lied.
He finished off his drink and  stood up.  He stretched a bit and then walked over to the kitchen, pouring another drink.
"Rotate with water, you have a photoshoot tomorrow." You yelled.
Yoongi looked like he was going to say something, but decided against it and got himself a bottle of water from the refrigerator. He took a few sips and then walked back over to the couch.
He sat down, staring at you." Go on. "
You laughed awkwardly,  " 'go on' what?"
"Drunk Yoongi can't lie. What do you want to know?"
You pursed your lips, "ahhh I should have made a list. I'm terribly unprepared for this."
Yoongi took another sip, "Really? Can't think of anything?"
You started to blush slightly. You could think of lots of things to ask. None of which seemed like a great idea. "It seems like you want me to ask you questions." you tucked a foot underneath your body.
Yoongi shrugged. "I don't know. I'm feeling more relaxed today than I have in a long time. Not just the whiskey. Just the hanging out. Doing normal shit. You know?"
"I do. I'm glad you and Jin are becoming friends."
Yoongi sat still for a moment thinking, "Yeah. I guess we are."
You smiled and grabbed your glass.
"And you. I like hanging out with you too."  He added quietly.
"Thanks. I don't even feel like the help most of the time," You quipped. Which was unfair. You knew. You were literally an employee.
He made a whooshing sound through his teeth, “Ah. There it is.” He gestured towards you.
“What?” You asked.
Yoongi cleared his throat and sat the glass down. “You know I like hanging out with you, I just said it. But you are technically my employee. Why get mad about it?” He shrugged.
“That’s not what I’m mad about.” You shook your head.
“So you are mad?”
Dammit. “Ughhh Yoongi, no. I’m not mad. I just…” You ran a hand through your hair trying how best to explain yourself.  “It’s dumb. Anyways, didn’t you also hire me to be your girlfriend?”
Yoongi bit back his immediate answer. He was drunk enough to have fun and let loose, not drunk enough to violate an NDA. He shrugged. “Yeah. Ok. So what. You want to go on a date or something? I told you, I don’t have time to go on dates. You’ve seen my schedule. Besides. I’m taking you to the auction.”
You scowled. “That’s a work function, I’m going as your assistant.”
Yoongi clicked his tongue, “I was taking you as my date. To clarify. Do you think anyone else invited their PA?”
“You didn’t ask me like I was your date,” you countered.
Yoongi raised his eyebrows at you, “Seriously? That’s what you’re upset about?”
“No...maybe. I don’t know. It’s dumb. Don’t worry about it.” You stood up to go refill your glass and to give you a break from this conversation. You had planned to come over here and have fun, not confess to your boss and whine about your relationship status.
Yoongi grabbed your wrist as you started to walk past him. You sighed, “What? I don’t want to talk about my feelings anymore. I don’t want to be analyzed.”
“Will you go to the Auction with me as my date?” Yoongi asked. Taking a deep steadying breath, he continued, “Not as a work thing. Me taking you, as my date.”
You looked down at him. He was making eye contact with the coffee table and his cheeks were bright red, causing you to smile a little. Shy boy. “Yes. I’d like that.”  You replied. He gently let go of your wrist. You continued on your trajectory to the kitchen. Sakusa Kiyoomi reminded you of an onion.
Over the past three years of going out with him, you seem to find a new layer to him. No longer was he the asshole from that day, he was the sweetest boyfriend, hands down. You were both a bit awkward in terms of affection since you two were treading on unfamiliar territory (much to your surprise, a man like Sakusa Kiyoomi has never been seriously intimate with anyone) but like every other couple out there, you surpassed it. You were now in the receiving end of his soft smiles, warm gaze, and affection.
Although you had your worries like your residency and his company growing bigger and bigger by the day, you started to wonder if you’d last long but the man casted your doubts aside and continued to be faithful to you and everyday you seem to fall deeper and deeper in the rabbit hole.
“...and for the last time, stop buying me expensive things and offering to pay my student loans.” you frowned, stirring the Butajiru for your boyfriend who was coming by today for dinner. Out of spite, early on in the relationship, you had to learn how to cook since Sakusa demanded you to when he learned that you lived a lot on canned foods and unhealthy take-outs. Much to your despise, he even volunteers to pay for your weekly groceries and even got you a ‘for sale’ stove that he apparently can’t return because he misplaced the receipt.
“I don’t get it, don’t partners like it when they’re given gifts all the time?” his brows are upturned, making you scoff. “From past experiences-”
“Are you sure that those weren’t sugar babies?” you cut him off, pointing the wooden spoon on your hand at him, “Because from your description you sound like a sugar daddy.”
“Hey.” He grumbled, walking up to you from behind to envelope you on a hug, “I’m not old enough to be a sugar daddy.”
You shut the stove off and turn to him, placing a brief kiss on the jaw, “You yell at teenagers and complain when it’s too noisy. I think you qualify for a senior discount and a sugar daddy title.” You joked, escaping his grip to grab some bowls so you both could start eating.
“You’re only four years younger than me.”
“Mhm.” You hummed, sticking your tongue out, “Also, aren’t you supposed to be at a party tonight?”
“You weren’t there.”
“Aren’t you required to go?” You frowned, placing the bowl in front of him, “You know I’m not a big fan of those things and you can’t keep handing it over to Komori-san…”
“And you know I hate it when you aren’t there.” He softly repeated.
You roll your eyes and place your own bowl as you sit in front of him, “Always the smooth talker since we met three years ago.” you shake your head.
“Three years, huh.” Sakusa paused, “Speaking of three years, I was thinking…”
You stopped eating and looked up to face him, his face dead serious, “Move in with me.” He asked out of the blue. Your eyes widen and you let down a gulp, your stomach flipping at his words.
“I-” You paused, “I...I can’t…”
Sakusa tilted his head, confused, “What?”
“Don’t get me wrong…” You started, eyes looking at your food, seemingly nervous, “I-I wanna move in with you, my lease is almost up...but…”
“But what?”
“It’s not like I wasn’t going to tell you any sooner but….but i’m moving.”
Silence filled the room that you could almost hear the pin drop, “What do you mean you’re moving?” Sakusa’s voice was void of emotion and it made you scared for the first time. The man wishes you were wrong, wishing that you were just moving someplace nearby but the next words stun him.
“I got accepted for a huge humanitarian work in Medaide.” You gulped, carefully choosing your words as you slither your hands to his, trying to distract him, “We'll be travelling around third world countries, like the dream I've always told you about. I thought, well, I didn't got accepted since I didn't hear from them but it seems like I did.”
“How many months?”
“It’s- It’s a permanent job, I go back once a year…”
Silence enveloped the room, the only thing that could be heard was the faint sound of the bustling city outside. The world seems to have stopped for Sakusa that time.
“Congrats.” Sakusa smiled softly, breaking the silence, “I’m proud of you, bunny.”
Your eyes widen as you immediately leap out the chair and run to your boyfriend’s side, “Thank god!” you exclaimed, sitting on his lap to envelope him in a hug, “I was afraid you’d break up with me.”
You stare at him in the eye, hands on his cheeks, “Now why would I do that?”
“I don’t know, we’d only be seeing each other once a year if i accepted it.” You murmured, kissing him on the temple, “Thanks for being so supportive.”
You don’t notice how his grip tightens a bit on your waist nor the darken look looming over his features, “I’d never let you go, bunny. Never.” he hummed.
You continue on with your little happy bubble with your ever supportive boyfriend, you start shopping for some goodies for your trip that you were scheduled to leave next month. You should’ve known everything was too good to be true.
A week before your trip, the company had called you in and said that you were cut off from the team and that apparently your experience wasn’t enough.
You vividly remember Sakusa rushing to your side mid-day when he should be swamped with work, whispering soothing words in your ear. You were absolutely devastated, the dream job you wanted felt like it slipped away, it took you a month to get back to your feet and actually go out. Despite getting over it, you were discouraged, the words they said echoed on your head, thoughts on how you weren’t performing well back  in med school and how your record on residency wasn’t enough.
“Y/N?”
“Oh.” you blinked, looking up to your boyfriend, “Sorry, I spaced out.”
“It’s alright.”
It seemed like the only constant thing in your life now was Sakusa, your friends were busy and they had come and gone, you didn’t want to worry your very busy parents so you didn’t call them about your dilemma. You didn’t want to call your aunt or Hinata about it too since you know they’d tell your parents.
Kiyoomi was the only person who stayed.
He was the only one you trusted.
“Is that roommate thing with you still open?” you suddenly asked, making Sakusa paused mid-movement.
“Of course it is,” He dropped the cutlery he was holding and strode to your side to caress your cheek, “It always is for you.”
“Guess I’ll be able to use my duplicate more often.”
Maybe being a humanitarian doctor wasn’t how it was going to be for you, it took another month for you to actually go and find a permanent job. Sakusa points out that you can take all the time out that you need but you don't want to lounge around and do nothing, you need a good distraction.
So you ended up working for a prestigious hospital as an ER doctor, for a moment, you forgot about Medaide with the help of your new job and your boyfriend.
You were happy.
Really happy.
The idea of staying in Tokyo didn’t actually seem like a bad idea now, you were going to bring it up to your parents and tell them that you wanted to stay here permanently with your boyfriend. They’d probably be happy, Sakusa Kiyoomi is a perfect man.
Until you come to the very sudden realization that he wasn’t.
Kiyoomi hated going out on long distance trips, he always wanted to be next to you or take you with him but this one was apparently too important to skip out so you greet him goodbye and wait for him to come home. Being the good partner you are, you decided to clean the house for your boyfriend. Kiyoomi was an incredibly clean person so you tried to keep your sloppiness to yourself when you moved in a few months ago.
Getting rid of the small dust here and there and throwing some unimportant things on the side, you prepare to throw out the collected garbage but ultimately freeze on your tracks when you find a ripped paper on the garbage dump.
Normally, you don’t do garbage dives.
Why would you?
Yet the name on top along with your boyfriend’s name caught your attention. It was Medaide’s logo, you grabbed the ripped piece of paper and started looking through the garbage dump, it did start to smell but curiosity always got the best of you.
Nervously biting your lower lip, you don’t find all the papers but you find one dated the same week you had broken the news to your boyfriend and the words, “Thank you for your donation and for sending us a group of more competent doctors for this batch.”
Your eyes narrowed as you stood there, shaking, the surge of panic and anxiety bubbling within you made the bile rose on your throat.
What was going on?
Was this really your perfect boyfriend?
Tumblr media
Maybe it was all a big misunderstanding, why would your boyfriend do that? What would he even gain? You bite on your fingernails as you walk back and forth in front of the front desk, “Y/N-san?”
You jump on the spot.
“K-Kenjiro-san.”
“You alright there?” Shirabu Kenjiro asked, tilting his head to the side, “You’re not looking very good these days.”
“Y-Yeah…” You gulped, “J-Just thinking about some things.”
“Well, your shift is about to be over. Maybe you can go home earlier? ER’s pretty much dead right now.”  Your fellow doctor shrugged, you turned around and let out a sigh, maybe you should request to go home earlier. You needed to rest. All this thinking was getting to your head that you had almost misdiagnosed a patient this afternoon.
“Hey Kenjiro-san.” you ask your workmate, “Can I ask you a question?”
“Shoot.”
“I have a friend.” You gulped down, “They’ve got this perfect relationship and he’s a super great guy...then-then they realize that he did something bad…”
Kenjiro looks up from his paperwork and shoots you his usual upturned brow, “Can you specify what he did?”
“He got in the way of their dreams.”
Kenjiro is silent for a moment as if he was thinking of something deep, “Well if I were that person, I’d leave him. What kind of asshat doesn’t support their partner’s dreams?” he asked, placing his hands on his hips, “Tell your friend that they deserve better and not some asshat who is holding them back.”
“Yeah,” you nodded, he had a very good point, “Yeah, that’s right.”
Kenjiro had a good point there, maybe confronting Sakusa would be a wise choice but as of right now you decided against it, you needed to gather the courage to actually talk to him about it. The thing that scared you the most was how much you loved and trusted the guy too much.
He went through such lengths to get you to stay around, who knows what else he could’ve done?
You shake your head, you were being paranoid yet at the same time you couldn’t help it. Your anxiety towards the situation wasn’t helpful at all and it was spiking up and down.
On your way home, you decided to pass by a local pharmacy because your head hadn’t been feeling very well, “Do you have any pain killers?” you weakly asked the man on the front counter, after giving you your medication, you also decided to buy some extra vitamins because you recalled almost running out of them.
“Oh, we ran out of that brand yesterday.” The pharmacist replied, scrunching his brow in wonder, “Would you like another one? It’s not a generic brand but it’s  pretty much the same.”
“Yeah, that’ll do too.” You nodded, after paying for your purchase, you headed home. Fixing up your medicine in your cabinet, you freeze mid-action when you notice how familiar the vitamin looked. Shakily raising your hand to grab your birth-control pills in the medicine cabinet, you almost topple down when you pop it open next to the vitamin you bought.
It was the same.
It was exactly the same.
Before you knew it you were vomiting in the basin, your headache was worsening and the shaking wouldn’t stop.
The idea of the perfect boyfriend was completely erased in your head.
You didn’t look well these past few days, Kiyoomi noticed it because you didn’t even dared to hide it anymore, you wanted to leave him. Not only did he get in the way of whatever you worked hard for but he was trying to get you pregnant without your consent.
You felt utterly disgusted.
You sat at the tub, completely drained from all the events that transpired this past two weeks. The three year perfect streak that he tried to maintain was reduced to nothing but shambles. You wanted to blame yourself for being too stupid and caught up in this sham, your boyfriend was messed up, you wanted to get away but how?
You inwardly sighed, you were stupid. Too stupidly in love and intoo deep the rabbit hole that you hadn't even noticed.
“Y/N?”
Your gaze snapped to find him standing there with an expensive bouquet of flowers, you try to let out a weak smile, “Hey.”
“You’re not looking well.” He commented, placing the flowers on the side as he approached your naked figure on the tub, “Are you alright?”
“Yeah.” you nodded, “Just work.”
“I told you not to overstrain yourself.” He mumbled, bending down to your level, “You might get sick.”
You wanted to cringe away in disgust as he kissed your bare shoulders but you maintained yourself, “It’s fine.” You softly said, “I just have to do my best. I still want to try out for humanitarian work if I get a good recommendation from the hospital.”
You notice the quick shift of expression in his eyes, making you tighten your lips, so there it was.
“Again? I thought-”
“It’s my dream.” You began, trying to give him a smile, maybe, just maybe you can let him see through it, “You know how much I want this.”
“Maybe it’s not meant for you.”
“Excuse me?”
Sakusa Kiyoomi’s eyes widen at the new reaction, your smile turning to a grimace. Over the course of your relationship, you had never been this angry, “Y/N, you know that’s not-”
“Get out.” You shakily say.
“Y/N.”
“I said, Get out, Sakusa.” You yell again, eyes seeing red, the bastard had the audacity to keep pulling you back and doing these things to you. You were downright disgusted at him and everything he was doing, what more would you find? The mere fact that he destroyed your dreams and switched out your birth control had you on edge at the moment and you didn’t want to try to find out anymore, you probably wouldn’t be able to handle it.
He lets out a sigh, “You don’t have to leave the room. I’ll go sleep on the couch.”
You watch him leave and close the bathroom door yet his eyes don’t fool you anymore.
You didn’t feel safe here.
You needed to get out.
Tumblr media
Sakusa Kiyoomi is no fool towards your shift of attitude, he knows something is up when you snap at him when you were usually the calmer one (yes, you may be a bundle of energy and spitfire but you were relatively calm in the most part) so he calls the head of your hospital and sits him down, the head is shaking and on his knees, begging him to spare his life and his job for he did not know that you were overworked at all in your department.
“...I watch over her, sir…” the chief shakily exclaimed, “I always do…”
“So, you’re telling me… that my Y/N is a liar?”
The chief immediately freezes up on the spot, “Good lord, of course not! Doctor Y/N would never-”
“What would it be?”
“E-excuse me?”
“Your hands or your life?”
The man immediately cries out, begging him for mercy for he was innocent but Sakusa didn’t care.
He didn’t care at all.
Yes, Sakusa Kiyoomi would do anything for you. If someone were to make you sad, tired, weary, or any negative emotion, he’d strike them down, just like how he paid your friends to stay away, just like how he had subtly shifted your parents work conditions that prevented them from returning to you.
You were his and his only.
No one could get in your ways.
“My name is Doctor Sato, I’ll be your new chief...”
You stare at the new head of the hospital blankly, apparently the previous chief, Doctor Yamomoto, had to retire due to some matters with his family. It was a shame, you really liked him since he was awfully nice to you and everyone in the ward, “...L/N-san?” the older man calls out as soon as the meeting was over.
Your gaze snapped towards him as he tilted his head slightly, you’re completely bewildered by the sudden attention from your new boss, “Are your working conditions alright?”
“Yes, chief.”
“If you have any problem, “ his tight lip turns into a big smile as he places his hand on your shoulder, “Please don’t hesitate to ask.”
You blink at his uncharacteristic request and immediately move back to get away from his grasp, a rather uncomfortable smile made its way to your lips as you nodded, “I’ll take note of that, Chief.”
Thankfully nothing odd happened anymore after the day ended and as you patched up your things, getting ready to go home, you find your one and only boyfriend standing there with another bouquet of flowers in his hands. The sense of familiar dread sinked in once again.
How would you end this all?
The perfect man was a liar and he got in the way but why couldn’t you end things with him quickly? Why couldn’t you cut him off? You were so angry at him yet at the same time you were so lost, where did it go wrong?
“Y/N…” He greets, “How was work?”
“It was fine.” You quietly replied, turning your gaze  at the expensive bouquet on his hands once again. Ever since you guys fought, he had been buying you flowers and expensive things but you remained the same, you just didn’t know how to act anymore around him.
“How was your new chief?”
You immediately tense up, as far as you recalled you had only met the chief today and no one knew about this outside the hospital. How the hell did this bastard know?
Sakusa notices you’ve gone too quiet, “Y/N? What’s wrong?” he asks.
“Word travels fast, huh?” you blinked, regaining your composure quickly, something wasn’t right now, you knew that something went deeper than that little Medaide charade he did and switching your pills to get you pregnant, “He’s alright and please stop buying me stuff, didn’t I tell you that we were fine already?”
“Y/N-”
You sighed and leaned in closer, pulling down his mask so that you could give him a peck on his lips. Inside, you felt disgusted but this was the only way now, “Stop acting all cringey and lovey-dovey. I forgive you. Let’s not fight again.” You consoled the tall man.
You notice how soft his eyes became.
Yes, two can play a game.
From stopping you from moving to trying to get you pregnant, it was those things that made you come towards a conclusion that Sakusa Kiyoomi didn’t wanted you to leave his side. The man probably wouldn’t stop at anything, if he was willing to go to such lengths, what more could he do? You let out a tight smile as your boyfriend kisses your temple.
You needed to find a way and quick because the Sakusa Kiyoomi you thought you knew for the past three years was nothing like the Sakusa Kiyoomi in front of you.

it took me a couple days but here’s a rundown of things sebastian said during the zoom call with his trainer don saladino and the march challenge group. he was on for an hour and three minutes total. keep in mind this challenge was fitness oriented so most of the questions revolve around that. this will also be LONG.
first of all he had trouble unmuting himself which was hilarious
he had a carboard cutout of the falcon with him which made everyone laugh
he loved being able to support ronald mcdonald house and he was sad they couldn’t go this year. sweet baby
when he was asked what he struggles with in his fitness he immediately said body dysmorphia. like no hesitation. he said he felt like he could stand to be less hard on himself.
he prefers cardio over other kinds of workouts.
he mentioned a role he’s getting ready for that’s “a lot different” but he laughed it off and said he couldn’t talk about it. i’m thinking it might have been tommy lee?
he tries to workout even just a little before he goes to set even when his schedule is crazy.
when he started training he had NO idea what he was doing. it took him a while to get into a routine and figure it out. he credited don with working a lot with him and finding a routine that works for him.
he feels better when he can do something physical every day. he said it really helps him mentally because the two go hand in hand for him.
someone said they were learning romanian and asked him for phrases to learn in romanian he said (in romanian) “oh my GOD why would you do that?” he also said he thinks people learning romanian because of him is “one of the sweetest things.”
he was asked how he balances training to look good vs training to feel good and he said if he’s training to look good he’s never 100% satisfied. training to feel good and setting short term goals has been better for him.
don praised him for working hard to pivot his focus on the overall vs the day to day. seb said it was a lot harder when he started than it is now.
someone asked him if the workouts or the nutrition was harder and he immediately started talking about pizza and how much he loves a good cheat meal. the chat blew up talking about his cheat day video for men’s health.
seb asked don his favorite cheat meal and they went on a tangent about burgers and fries and vodka that had us cracking up. seb said he went through a period where he was eating some kind of chocolate every day.
someone asked if he found it mentally difficult to go from one body type to another for roles and he said absolutely. he said if he has a shirtless scene to do then a month before he cuts out ALL sugar. fruits, carbs, everything and he turns into a very irritable person for about two weeks.
he was asked how the pandemic has changed his training and he said of course it has. him and don worked together to create a program for him to do from home with dumbbells and they had to get inventive. he’s been running a lot too.
someone asked the strangest item he’s used for weights and he said he’d go to the grocery store by himself without uber or anything. he tried to do one big shopping trip to last him for a week and half and he’d be laden with bags and it took him an hour and a half to walk home.
he told a story about using a towel and a bar in his house and he said “you probably know it because some “super fans” love to leak my address. so kind. lovely people.” the chat became v enraged.
he’s never had to get in shape on super short notice. marvel usually gives him about a 2 month heads up before he has to shoot things.
someone asked if he was a dog person. he said he loves dogs and he’d love to have one but he travels too much to give one the right kind of attention. he said if he could have a dog he’d have a bulldog or a husky.
he was asked his favorite nyc cheat meal and his first answer was “seeing all of you there” and we all cracked up. his real answer was a pizza place called rubirosa. he specifically likes their white pizza. (who wants to go to new york and get pizza with me?)
who would win in an iso squat challenge? him or don? (iso squats are when you drop into a squat and you hold it. it’s been the most hated exercise throughout the challenge). his face was HORRIFIED when he remembered what they are and he said don would definitely win. “don you have thighs of glory” the group is contemplating making shirts.
he played some sports in school but he wasn’t a super athletic kid. he struggled in school a bit because he had an accent and people were picking on him. it took a long time for his confidence to build.
celebrate victories where you can. he talked about when he posted that shirtless picture from the gym as an example. he said it’s more for motivation and pride in his achievements than about showing off.
he mentioned the documentary “the weight of gold” as something he watched recently. he said it’s a good example of people who are gold medal olympians struggling with the same things as everyone else when it comes to fitness. he comes back several times to not being too hard on yourself.
he hasn’t lifted any weights in about a month and a half but he’s been running. he’s surprised at the amount of muscle he still has because he thought he’d lose a lot of it.
taking breaks when you’re working on fitness is so important. he says taking a week off sometimes is ok if that’s what you need.
they have talked about pizza at least 5 times at this point (32 minutes in) and it’s HILAROUS honestly.
he hates leg day. he knows how important it is because you need strong legs but he prefers doing arms and chest. “the squats can be so annoying UGH.”
someone asked him his advice for people who are starting an acting career and he laughed and said “quit all social media.” he walked it back and said you have to find a way to quiet the noise.
this mfer went to theatre camp when he was 15 and he did MUSICALS. we tired to get him to sing. it didn’t work.
“you gotta do you. you cannot lose you as you’re going. and you cannot care what people think.”
he talked about imposter syndrome in terms of getting reviews and stuff. he said when he gets bad reviews it hurts but sometimes when he gets good reviews he can think “oh my god they made a mistake” or “oh my god i have to deliver like this every time.” he said if you’re starting out ask yourself why you want to do this and make sure this is what you want to do day in a day out. make sure when you face rejection and obstacles you have the energy to push you to get back up and say “fuck you i’m doing me.”
recommended the book “the subtle art of not giving a fuck” as something he loves.
“there’s creativity in everything. you don’t have to be a pianist or an actor or a writer. there’s creativity in all functions. as people we’re all creative.”
he went back to instagram for a minute and said to use it for the right things and follow the things that you like or are inspired by. he loves that social media can be used to reach people but you have to filter through the negative stuff.
someone asked the meanest thing don’t ever said during training and he said don’s never been mean but he’s always been inspiring and motivating for him. cute lil bromance moment.
he was asked if it’s harder to get into shape physically for the winter soldier or mentally. he said now it’s more of a head thing than it was in the beginning. the physically part was challenging for him in the beginning because he wanted to feel strong to build his confidence. he felt he couldn’t be bucky without being strong.
civil war was his real hair but when they started filming it wasn’t long enough so he had extensions. by the end of the shoot it was long enough to cut the extensions out.
the line between overtraining and not being motivated to train enough is hard for him sometimes. things tend to come all at once or not at all and it can be a struggle.
he meditates and does some kind of physical activity every day at the start of his day. it makes him able to do the things he needs to do for the rest of the day better.
he thanked everyone for their support of tfaws and “making us look pretty good.” he’s very grateful for the turnout.
don says falcon weird. that’s not important but i wanted to mention it.
running is his go to thing. he feels like it’s a good meditative thing for him.  his go to pandemic workout was 100 pull ups, 100 push ups, 100 sit ups, 100 squats and alternating with running. we all panicked and were like “100 PULL UPS AT ONCE??” and he was like no no no no no no no no space that shit out during the day.
he loves breakfast but he doesn’t eat it at breakfast time. he joked he was going to eat breakfast after the call (which ended at 7PM). he likes anything with eggs and avocado.
there are still directors he wants to work with that he can’t get to see him for parts. he did three audition tapes, two in person auditions, and a screen test to get bucky.
he just recently learned what “thirst pics” are (he figured out from the chat it’s thirst traps). when someone told him that picture from the gym was a thirst trap he was like “oh great well that sounds terrible.” men’s health didn’t call him until after that pic. he had reached out to them before that but that was the thing that made them call.
“make fun of yourself. you have to not take yourself too seriously.”
they both talked about how being able to do things like this is a privilege. there are always days when seb or don or anyone walks into a gym and doesn’t want to be there.
this is the part that made me emotional as FUCK. he’s had days where he’s gone to set and been like “what the fuck am i doing?” he says every time that happens he thinks “this is the time they’re gonna realize i can’t do this. this is when they’re all gonna know i’ve never been good at this.” he said in those moments you can’t just say “no no no i’m the best.” he said sometimes affirmations work and they can be as simple as “i’m gonna try to have a good day today” and it doesn’t have to be “i have to be the best version of myself.” it can just be “i wanna have a good day today” but on the days when you don’t feel good about things and don’t know what you’re doing he said you have to go there and say “ok i don’t know what the fuck i’m doing. fuck everything.” be in the thing that’s happening to you and give yourself permission to be down for a minute. find a compromise with yourself. if you can’t run the same three miles you’ve run all week and you just don’t want to, maybe you go for a walk instead. (his example not mine i DO NOT run). when he’s been in those moments of defeat accepting it had lead him to things he didn’t plan for and he finds those moments to be gifts in a way. accepting it and saying “today is that day” your body and your mind can start moving into finding other little things to do.
he came back to pizza one more time. i love him.
he recognizes how lucky he is to have the life he has. he says it’s important to pay attention to give a fuck about things and to give a fuck about things that will help other people.
watching him talk the whole time he seemed so happy and relaxed. he seems like such a light hearted and fun person and he laughed SO much
that’s the end y’all. thanks for sticking around and reading all my hastily typed notes

In the months following your mission on Hesse, you only got better and better at your job. You learned the ins and outs of Philian nightlife, and you were proud to say you were getting more used to jobs on foreign planets. Mostly, you were getting more used to Lafayette and his division of soldiers. In between missions, you had time to lay low at headquarters, and the soldiers quickly became brothers to you.
As all siblings like to do, the soldiers would do their best to pull pranks and tease you when the occasion occurred. The growing relationship–you might even call it friendship–with the man who you had stolen from just a few months ago didn’t go unseen by the men in Lafayette’s division.
“We’ve compiled the information needed for your mission with Alpha,” Hamilton says, sliding a tablet across Lafayette’s desk for him to read.
Alpha–the squadron had affectionately given you the codename; named for the capital, Alpha Cersei, of the tiny planet you had grown up on. You wore the name with pride.
“Anything important I should know?” Lafayette asks as he begins scrolling through the information.
Hamilton coughs softy and nudges Laurens, who in turn nudges Mulligan. Mulligan shoots the other two men a dirty look, but nonetheless steps forward: “Well, the thing is… We thought it would be best, well… well why don’t you tell him, Hamilton?”
“Me? I put this together!”
“That’s why you should be the one to tell him!”
Lafayette sets the tablet down rather unceremoniously. “Would one of you just spit it out?”
A beat of silence.
“We… well, Hamilton decided that a couple of newlyweds would be a rather convincing cover for this particular mission,” Laurens finally says.
“Oh so now it was my idea, huh?” Hamilton says with irritation. “It was our idea when you thought it was funny.”
Lafayette looks between the three men incredulously before looking back down at the tablet to read further into the details. “You didn’t seriously…”
“If it makes you feel any better,” Hercules says (and he says it in a way that makes Lafayette think that the next thing he’s about to say won’t make him feel better at all), “we made sure to book you and Alpha the honeymoon suite. The reviews are great. Supposed to be very ro-man-tic.”
Hamilton and Laurens fail to hide their snickering, but Lafayette silences the two of them with a sharp look. He rests his forehead in his hand when the information he’s reading on the tablet confirms everything his soldiers told him.
“This is the last time I put any of you in charge of mission details,” Lafayette mutters.
“That’s not fair, we gave you a cool codename,” Laurens points out.
Hamilton’s eyes light up and he nods in agreement. “We did! Do you want to hear it?”
“Do I?”
“You’re Romeo,” Hercules says, and the three of them grin widely like it’s the cleverest thing they’ve ever come up with.
“Romeo?” You push open the door and take a seat in one of the chairs in front of Lafayette’s desk that you’ve grown accustomed to. You size Lafayette up with a look, noting how flustered he seems. “Are you a fan of Shakespeare, or somethin’?”
“Actu—” Laurens starts, but Lafayette silences him with a glare.
“Yes. Love Shakespeare. Laurens, Mulligan, and Hamilton were just about to leave.” His words are clipped and the three soldiers seem to understand him, quickly filing out the door in a fit of laughter, but not before muttering something about leaving the two of you alone together.
You raise an eyebrow at their strange behavior but shrug it off. You turn to face Lafayette and give him a mock salute. “Alright, general. Brief me on my mission.”
“Our mission, actually,” he corrects.
This surprises you. “You’re coming with? Ah, I suppose that makes sense. Hence the codename. Alright, Romeo, brief me on our mission.”
The codename catches him off-guard, but he doesn’t let it show. “There’s a British officer who has happened to obtain some… important information concerning future battle plans. We’ve been told he’s staying at a resort on Ambros while his ship is being repaired.”
“So we’re going to steal the information back before he can get it to New Britannia?”
“Exactly.”
“What’s our cover?”
“There’s more information on here,” Lafayette says, handing you the tablet, “but basically… we’re honeymooners.”
You pause, look up at him with wide eyes, then snort loudly. “You’re going to be my husband?”
He frowns at you. “Is there something funny about that?”
“No, of course not.” Your laughter contradicts your words. “It’s just that… you and I, well… we’d make an interesting pair?”
“Don’t worry, starlight, you’ll only have to put up with me for the length of the mission.”
“Oh, c’mon, don’t you think the situation is a little bit humorous?” You flash him a grin and his expression softens a little. “So should I meet you at the loading dock tomorrow morning, then?”
“Yes,” he nodded. Then, remembering something, Lafayette reached down and opened up a drawer, pulling out a little box. He set it on the desk in front of you.
“What’s this?”
“We’re married. You should have a ring.” He shrugs like it was obvious.
Gingerly, you open the box and your mouth falls open when you see the large diamond in front of you. The ring probably costs more than anything you’ve ever owned, and Lafayette is just giving it to you. You look from the ring to him in shock, and he gives you a small nod, encouraging you to try it on. You slide it onto your finger, and it just happens to fit perfectly.
“Wow” is all you manage to say as you admire the way it sparkles on your hand. You grin and your eyes meet Lafayette’s with a mischievous grin. “I’ve been waiting for this my whole life. Yes, yes, a thousand times, yes!”
Lafayette rolls his eyes at your antics, but he can’t help but smile. “Is it too early to file for divorce?”
You wave him off as a thought suddenly occurs to you. “I’ve got to go show the boys my engagement ring! I’ll see you tomorrow morning, bright and early, sweetheart.”
With that, you sweep out of the room and moments later, Lafayette can hear Hamilton, Laurens, and Mulligan all laughing and congratulating you on the fake engagement. Lafayette shakes his head, but he is incapable of wiping the smile off his face.
The flight to Ambros is short, and you and Lafayette spend most of the trip going over your cover in more detail. Lafayette is more focused on the important details: the name and appearance of your target, strategies, etc. You, on the other hand, argue that it’s just as important to come up with a believable background: how long the two of you have been together, where you got married, who your maid of honor was. You’re mostly teasing, but it would be beneficial to the both of you if your stories lined up.
“How did you propose? I think you took me back to the place we first met,” you muse.
“No, no. Not the place we first met. The place I first realized I loved you,” he suggests.
You look up at him, amusement playing on your features. “Oh, that’s much better.”
“Yes, and you had no idea. And I told you that ‘this is where I fell in love with you’ and suddenly I was down on one knee.”
“Our love story really is the sweetest, isn’t it?”
He nods. “The very best.”
You admire the ring on your hand and a thought occurs to you. “Do you just happen to keep wedding rings in your desk for impromptu proposals? Or… is there someone you were going to propose to?”
Lafayette shakes his head. “That was my mother’s ring.”
Your jaw drops when he says this. You’ve heard the stories about Lafayette’s past. Both of his parents died when he was young, leaving him one of the wealthiest Francos on the planet. Maybe he left Francosia because he had no family left there. Maybe it was something else. You don’t ask.
“This is your mother’s ring? I can’t wear this! Why didn’t you tell me?” You ask.
“We’re supposed to be married, starlight. Unless you’ve got a different ring in your pocket you’d prefer, I think our options are rather limited,” he says plainly.
You see the logic in his statement, but you’re still shocked he would trust you with his mother’s ring. “Yes, I understand, it’s just… this is something important to you. You just gave it to me.”
“Should I be worried about giving it to you?” He teases. “Were you planning on stealing it?”
“Well, now I’m not going to,” you say under your breath.
This elicits a chuckle from Lafayette. “My mother would’ve liked you. If anyone was going to wear her ring, I think she would’ve been glad it was you.”
Lafayette stands when the orange Ambrosian sea begins to cast hued light through the window, but his comment isn’t lost on you. For some reason, your chest grows all warm at the thought that his mother would’ve liked you.
“We’re going to be landing soon, we should both get changed,” Lafayette says.
He’s right. You’re wearing plain tan clothes, hardly suitable for the wife of a wealthy businessman. Lafayette is still wearing his white Amerigo Army uniform; he’ll have to change for obvious reasons. You give him a nod, getting up to your personal quarters to get changed.
For this mission, you’ve packed a closet of outfits that you would never have worn back home on Philia. Evening gowns, dresses that are equal parts too short and too sparkly, gold and silver necklaces, shoes you don’t understand how to put on, much less walk in. You decide you’ll wear one of your simpler options: a black gown that hugs your torso before cascading to the ground in waves, a slit exposes your left leg up to your mid-thigh. When you’re finished getting ready, you catch sight of your reflection in your mirror, and a surge of confidence flows through you. You look beautiful.
When you step back onto the bridge, the look on Lafayette’s face reaffirms your thoughts. His lips part as he takes in your appearance, eyes widening slightly before he remembers that it’s not polite to stare. He clears his throat.
“You look… nice,” he says.
“You don’t look so bad yourself,” you reply. You mean it. Lafayette has changed out of his usual uniform into a fitted suit of all black. A flash of deep red catches your eye when he adjusts his pocket square. He’s wearing the colors of the New Britannia flag; it’s all in the subtle details. You realize that this is the first time you’ve seen him in civilian clothes. You decide you like it.
“Shall we?” Lafayette offers you an arm.
You smile and take it, pulling yourself to his side. “Of course, darling.”

May 16, 2008
Daniel was sure that if he bit his lip any harder, he would draw blood. The high school hallways were bustling with students who all spoke and shouted over each other as they gathered their things after final bell before the weekend. The slamming of lockers and bumping of bodies didn’t even seem to phase Daniel as he stared right down the hallway to where Marigold was standing.
She had her hair in braids that day and she smiled so widely when Daniel gave her a weak compliment in first period. Even just thinking about it now had his stomach in knots. He had never been smooth and never been flirty and even that simple statement in passing made him nervous.
They had talked almost every day since they officially met in first period English. There was nothing Daniel looked forward to more than her sweet ‘Good morning, Daniel’ every day as she walked into the classroom and took her seat behind him. Talking with his friends at lunch led him to accept that he had a wholehearted crush on her and if he didn’t ask her out he would be royally doomed.
Thing is, Daniel made that realization only two weeks after they met and planned to ask her out on Valentine’s day but totally chickened out. Three months later, he was driving himself insane for putting it off so long. His friends said if he didn’t ask her out that week then they would do it for him and wouldn’t that be embarrassing.
It was Friday. After the last bell. He couldn’t put it off any longer.
With one more nervous pet to his hair and a straightening of his back, he made his way over. Marigold glanced up at him as he approached.
“Hey.” she grinned, “You never come visit me. What do I owe the pleasure?”
Daniel licked his lips nervously as he watched her tuck her binders into her rose patterned backpack.
When he didn’t answer, she looked back at him with a chuckle, “Hello?”
Daniel rose his eyes to hers and took a deep breath, “Do you wanna go out with me this weekend?”
A sweet smile played at the corner of Marigold’s mouth as she slung her zipped up bag over her shoulder and closed her locker, “I’m at my grandparents’ this weekend but I’m free tonight.”
Daniel’s eyes went wide, his breath stuttering in his chest for a moment, “Tonight? Tonight…y-yeah, okay, yeah, I can do tonight.”
“Okay.” Marigold nodded in agreement. “I gotta go…mom’s waiting…but message me on AIM with a time and place.”
“Yeah.” Daniel breathed out, watching her rush off past him with a hurried ‘bye!’ and into the hallway crowded with teenagers. He couldn’t hold back the little air punch in celebration for that and he hurried off into the crowd in the opposite direction before anyone could see his bit of a happy dance.
The moment Daniel got home, he was rushing towards the basement, “I need the computer! I need the computer!”
He nearly threw himself into the computer room, only to find his older brother already there.
“I’m mid-game.” Christian said without looking up. “You can have it after dinner.”
“No. No, no, I need it now. Please.” Daniel stood over him impatiently.
“For what?”
“None of your business.”
“I need to know to decide if it’s worth stopping my game.”
“It is! I need to get on AIM, like, now.”
Christian paused his playing and looked up at his brother, “Is it a girl?”
With the distraction that obviously worked, Daniel threw himself on his brother’s lap and unplugged the game controller and closed the window himself. Christian shouted at him in protest and Daniel did his best to hold his older brother back as he opened up AIM and found Marigold’s contact – labeled as ‘online’ - and drafted a super rushed message.
C u at 6 for dinner?
“Mom! Daniel is hogging the computer!” Christian shouted towards the stairs. “And rubbing his nasty butt on me!”
Daniel ignored him, muttering under his breath as he saw the typing icon pop up, “Come on, come on.”
Yes. Where?
I’ll pick u up
A smiley thumbs up emoticon came through as is reply just as Christian shoved him off his lap and onto the carpeted floor. Daniel only picked himself up with ease and tossed the controller at his older brother’s head.
“Go play your stupid game while I have a date with a real girl.”
He rushed for the stairs before Christian could smack him for the diss.
By 5:30, Daniel had showered and dressed in pants and a button-up and fixed his hair three times in the mirror in his room. He grabbed his jacket and keys and hurried for the door. He made it right out to the driveway before realizing he was forgetting something.
Marigold thought farther ahead than Daniel did – that wasn’t odd – and her address was waiting for him in their AIM messages when he returned to the computer. He scribbled it down on a scrap piece of paper and nearly tripped up the stairs on his way back upstairs to type it into the old GPS in his hand-me-down truck. Daniel wasn’t necessarily a clumsy guy but the nervousness that was pumping through him certainly made that his momentary unfortunate reality. He even forgot to take the car out of park before trying to back out of the driveway. A marigold flower that he had picked from his mother’s garden rested in the cupholder.
The robotic voice of the GPS led him through the suburban streets of West Hartford to a red brick Tudor house with lush gardens and a perfectly trimmed lawn. Daniel lingered in the driveway for a moment, staring up at the front door that was framed by two small lights, waiting for him. He took a deep breath, stepped out of his old truck, and walked cautiously up the few stone steps to the hedge trimmed front porch. He barely knocked on the wood door before it was pulled open, revealing Marigold on the other side.
His heart did a little skip.
“Hi.” she said sweetly.
Daniel tried to word his response as he stared at her with her long blonde hair left in their natural waves and her face dusted in light makeup. He finally got out a soft, “Hi. You…look so good.”
Marigold tucked her hair behind her ear, “Thank you. You look good too.”
Daniel shifted and held out the marigold flower to her, “I…would have brought more but this was kinda last minute.”
“Well aren’t you as sweet as sugar?” Marigold giggled as she took it from him and twirled it between her fingers, “But my favourite flowers are hydrangeas.”
“Shit.” Daniel muttered.
“Just remember for next time.” she said as she closed the front door behind her.
Daniel nodded lightly, “Next time.”
They headed to his truck and he opened the door for her and held out a hand to help her up the slightly large step into the passenger seat. Marigold thanked him with a smile and took his hand although the way she easily hopped in meant she really didn’t need any sort of help.
“Where are we going?” Marigold asked once Daniel turned the key in the rumbling ignition.
“It’s a surprise.” Daniel said, switching the truck into reverse and tucked his hand behind her chair to back out of the driveway.
Marigold smiled over at him, “I like surprises.”
“Don’t get your hopes up.” Daniel added quickly.
“Don’t second guess yourself.” she retorted, although her tone was gentle.
Their eyes met briefly from across the front seat of the truck and Daniel looked back quickly to the road, stuttering to a stop at a crosswalk. Marigold reached out a hand to the dashboard.
“Sorry.” Daniel said, “Not quite used to driving this thing yet.”
“That’s okay.” Marigold said easily. “I can’t drive at all so you’re already impressing me.”
Daniel smiled to himself as he continued driving more towards the centre of town. Marigold hummed softly and tucked the flower behind her ear, pulling down the sun visor to look in the small mirror to make sure it was sitting nicely.
“It’s a gorgeous shade of yellow. Did you grow it yourself?” she asked, tapping the petals gently before shutting the visor again.
“No.” Daniel chuckled. “My mom did. I don’t…know a lot about gardening.”
“What a shame.” Marigold tisked. “I love it.”
Her eyes went wide as they turned into a parking lot and she gasped as she threw out her hand to touch his arm. Daniel was sure shivers tore down his spine at her simple touch and he glanced over at her in surprise.
“Are we going to Wendy’s?” she asked.
“Is that okay?” Daniel retorted quickly.
“Yes!” Marigold grinned, clapping her hands together a little in excitement. “Wendy’s is my favourite!”
Daniel let the truck drift to a stop in the drive-thru lineup and he looked over at her, “Really? It’s mine too.”
“Wow. We sit next to each other for three entire months and yet we are still learning about each other.”
“I mean we talk more about Shakespeare than fast food and flowers in class but…yeah.” Daniel chuckled.
Marigold smiled at him, the sweetest giggle falling from her lips, and the dim lights from the restaurant sign and almost setting sun outside the windows cast a pretty yellow glow across her face. Daniel was sure he had never seen anything or anyone as beautiful.
She told him her order and he paid at the window and passed her the takeout bag to hold as he pulled out of the drive-thru. Marigold peeked open the bag and snuck a fry for herself before taking a second and holding it out in front of Daniel’s nose. He smiled shyly and leaned in to let her feed it to him as he drove. She folded up the top of the takeout bag and let her gaze drift out the window as they headed towards the outskirts of town.
“Where are you taking me?” she asked.
“You’ll see.” Daniel answered casually.
Marigold glanced over at him as he was focused on the road and she let a small smile come to her lips. He had this seriousness about him when he drove, or maybe that was just his first date jitters taking over, as his bottom lip stayed wedged between his teeth and his hands stayed wrapped around the steering wheel. He took them out of the suburbs and into the outskirts of town where the buildings moulded into farmland and the street lamps turned into rickety telephone wires. Daniel - who only had his license for a few months - drove extra cautiously as pavement turned into dirt roads. The sun was still just over the horizon but was dropping quickly and the hues of sunset were fluttering through the truck and across their faces.
Daniel finally pulled into an alcove at the side of the road, down a slightly narrow dirt path that somewhat resembled someone’s driveway. Marigold simply held their takeout bag on her lap and trusted his process. He did a slightly rusty three-point-turn to reverse at the end of the path and then parked.
“Where are we?” Marigold asked with a slightly nervous giggle.
“Come.” Daniel opened the door and hopped out onto the dirt below. Marigold followed him around the truck with the takeout bag and he opened the back to reveal the bed of the truck made up with blankets and pillows.
Marigold bit back her smile and turned over her shoulder to the vast expanse of farmland beyond and a perfect view of the sunset and the outskirts of the city in the distance.
“Is it stupid? You can tell me.” Daniel said quickly.
“No.” she answered right away. “I really love this.”
“Good because my other option was bowling and I really suck at bowling.” Daniel sighed.
Marigold laughed sweetly and climbed up into the back of the truck. He followed quickly and they got the pillows arranged to rest back on with the blankets under them to prevent the hard plastic of the truck bed from becoming too uncomfortable. They split their food and ate on their laps while watching the sunset. Daniel was almost too nervous to eat - he felt like he might be sick any moment - but he ate anyway and focused on the soft humming coming from the pretty blonde girl beside him.
“How’d you find this spot?” Marigold finally asked.
“By chance, honestly.” Daniel shrugged. “I was practicing my driving before I got my full license and I was up around here and pulled over to answer a call from my mom and...I dunno...it looked kinda nice.”
Marigold nodded in agreement through a bite of her burger before answering, “It is kinda nice.”
“You’re the first person I’ve taken here.”
“Oh really?” Marigold smiled over at him, “I’m glad. Maybe this can be our spot.”
Daniel bit his lip to prevent himself from smiling as wide as he possibly could back at her and he nodded, “Okay.”
They finished their meals in near silence and by the time the sun finally dipped below the horizon and sent the land into near darkness, they rested back against the pillows comfortably. Daniel pulled up one of the blankets over their laps to keep warm as night fell and the temperature started to drop. Marigold was entranced by the views, her gaze unwavering as she stared up at the stars starting to appear across the inky sky.
“You can never see the stars from town.” she whispered.
Daniel looked from her up to the sky himself and smiled lightly at the blinking stars staring back at them.
“They’re so pretty.” Marigold said.
He looked back over at her, certainly finding her much prettier than the stars. He couldn’t believe she was really truly there with him - after months of psyching himself out and putting it off. She was the prettiest girl in the whole school, Daniel was sure of it, not to mention the sweetest and thinking about the fact that she so easily agreed to go out with him made his heart jump in his chest.
As if reading his thoughts, she asked, “Why’d you want to ask me out?”
Daniel was startled by her question and when he didn’t answer right away she looked back at him expectantly.
“I...You...were the prettiest girl I’d ever seen when you walked into the classroom at the start of term and...so nice to me and so...sweet and...I’ve had a serious crush on you for weeks now but I was too scared to ever do anything about it.”
Marigold lolled her head back against the rear window of the truck and listened so intently to him that you’d think he was preaching the gospel.
“So why now?” she challenged.
“Truth?” Daniel asked.
She nodded.
“My friends said if I didn’t ask you out by the end of the week, theyd do it for me and I don’t think I could ever recover from that embarrassment if they did.”
“Ah, so you waited for the eleventh hour?” Marigold giggled.
“Yeah.” Daniel laughed lightly, looking back down to his lap where he was picking nervously at the loose threads on the blanket draped over them.
Marigold spoke quietly to him, her eyes focused on his face even when he wasn’t looking back at her, “Well you know I’m not shy by any means but...I kinda always got a little nervous around you.”
Daniel finally looked back at her, “What? Really?”
She bit her smiling lip and nodded, “I kinda had a serious crush on you too. I’d get all nervous before first period because I knew I’d be seeing you.”
“Shut up. You did not.” Daniel blushed, looking away from her shyly.
“I did. I did, I swear.” Marigold giggled. “You were just so cute and quiet and made me feel like a little kid all shy.”
“You shoulda told me.” Daniel mumbled, his cheeks flushed pink.
Marigold nudged him, “You shoulda told me.”
They looked back out to the stars, smiling to themselves quietly at the confessions of the other. By the light of the stars, Marigold slid her hand out and brushed over his wrist ever so gently. His eyebrows furrowed a moment in confusion and turned his left hand out palm up as if expecting her to pass him something but all she did was slide her fingers into his and held his hand. Daniel kept his eyes on the sky but gladly kept a snug grip on her hand, ignoring the sickening sweet butterflies that flew around in his stomach.
“My mom says I can get too friendly sometimes so if I cross a line just tell me.” Marigold said.
“You’re fine.” Daniel assured her with a whisper.
She shuffled closer and leaned her head on his shoulder and he swore the feeling of her so close had the most blissful warmth radiating throughout his whole body. He gently rubbed his thumb over hers and she gave his hand a squeeze. Is this what heaven felt like? Daniel never wanted to leave. Just to sit forever just them and the stars.
They sat just like that for a while, sharing whispered conversations about home and their families and their favourite movies. Even when their palms got a little clammy as the minutes moulded into hours, they didn’t move from their spot.
Their spot.
Curfew approached faster than they would have liked to admit and Daniel turned to look at her in their close proximity. Their noses touched as she was still leaned up into his side but she just brushed hers over his and they shared little shy giggles. He could have kissed her right then and there. The stars sparkled in her light blue eyes and he could feel the warmth of her body against his and she was staring at him like she wanted him to.
Daniel shifted slowly and dusted a kiss over her cheek instead before slipping his hand out of hers, “We should head back.”
His shyness made her smile and she let her gaze linger on him a moment longer as he gathered their empty takeout bag and shifted the blanket off of their laps. Daniel never often noticed the way she stared at him when he wasn’t paying attention, always with that same soft smile and adoring light eyes, ever since that very night of their very first date.
Daniel mentally beat himself up the entire drive back into town for not kissing her. The opportunity was right there and he chickened out. As they pulled into Marigold’s driveway, he told himself he was going to kiss her and end the date as it should end. He parked and took a deep breath before looking over at her.
“Thank you for tonight.” Marigold smiled. “I had fun.”
“You’re welcome.” Daniel replied quickly.
“Dinner was great...the stars...everything...it was incredible.”
Daniel only nodded, trying to find that perfect beat of silence so he could go for it but Marigold wasn’t really one to ever stop talking.
“I haven’t really been on dates before...but this one was certainly my favourite. Even the flower. Especially the flower.” she touched the yellow marigold that was still tucked behind her ear before grabbing her small purse and opened the door.
“I’ll walk you up.” Daniel said hurriedly and jumped out of the truck with her.
He stuffed his hands in the pockets of his pants as they headed up the front steps and she smiled widely at him.
“What a gentleman.” she complimented, a hint of teasing in her tone just to make him blush.
She reached for the door handle but turned back to him almost expectantly. Daniel almost went for it but she spoke again.
“So...are we dating then?”
Her question took Daniel by surprise but she smiled sweetly at him as she waited for his answer.
He licked his lips nervously but nodded, “Yeah. I’d...I’d like that.”
“Daniel, will you be my boyfriend?”
“I’m supposed to ask you!”
“You asked me on the date so it’s only fair I can ask you to date me.”
“That’s...that’s not...Marigold, will you be my girlfriend?”
“Only if you agree to be my boyfriend.”
“You’re so stubborn, oh my gosh.” Daniel laughed nervously.
“Is that a yes?”
“Yeah, obviously.”
“Yeah, obviously.” Marigold giggled, using his words as her reply too, their momentary banter falling into silence.
This was the moment.
Daniel stepped closer to her and leaned down slightly, sliding his hand to the side of her neck and gently tilted her head up towards him. They were only a mere inch apart before the front door was tugged open and Marigold, who still had her hand on the handle, went stumbling backwards with a gasp.
“Mari!”
Marigold turned to her younger sister with a huff, “What, Iris? What is it?”
The blonde girl in the doorway - who looked a heck of a lot like Marigold apart from her slightly darker blonde hair and much greener eyes - continued loudly, “Do you know where my purple skirt is? I need it for this weekend!”
“You couldn’t have waited two more minutes for me to come inside?” Marigold scolded lightly.
Daniel shifted shyly on his feet and kept his hands in his pockets as she reprimanded her little sister.
“Hey,” the younger teenager looked past her to Daniel, “Aren’t you Anna Seavey’s brother?”
Daniel nodded stiffly, “Yeah.”
“Jesus! She’s like the coolest freshman in the entire school. Mari, are you dating Anna’s brother?!”
“Iris! You’re being rude. And don’t say Jesus.”
“Okay, but have you seen my skirt? Can you help me find it?”
Daniel chuckled at Marigold’s obviously unimpressed expression but she sighed in defeat, always too nice for her own good.
“Fine. I’m coming.” Marigold looked back to Daniel, “Sorry.”
He waved his hand between them casually, “Nah, it’s fine.”
“I’ll see you on Monday.” she smiled. “Thanks again for tonight.”
Daniel nodded and watched her be pulled inside by her fourteen-year-old sister. He lingered on her front porch for a moment before exhaling deeply and running his hands through his hair. Merely a few hours before he was pathetically pining over this girl from his english class and suddenly, by nightfall, he was her boyfriend.
Daniel drove home in his hand-me-down pickup truck that lingered with the scent of her floral drugstore perfume. No junior would ever say this, but he couldn’t wait until Monday.

KyouHaba Fanfic recs
Hiya! How much do I love KyouHaba? Yes. This is one of my favorite ships and one of my comfort ships <3 KyouHaba has got some amazing fics, so even if they aren’t really your thing, you should still read this :D Anyway, onto the recs!
As always, pls check WARNINGS, TAGS, and SUMMARIES for fics before reading (esp since KyouHaba usually deals with darker topics and not all of them tag/warn for it!) and make sure you’re taking care of yourselves (since mental health is key!) Stay healthy loves <3
CP:
Close to the Chest by darkmagicalgirl (T) 61.1k // THIS ONE man anyway I just love the progression of their relationship and the way this fic is written! The way we really go into who Yahaba is really what makes this fic great! Also there's some slightly ~angsty~ IWAOI so look out for that hehe.
Police Dog by surveycorpsjean (E) 34.9k // if you’re super against like any *furry* implications, pass this one LOL. But TBH I don’t like furries, but this one was pretty great (hence why it’s here LOL) and they make me laugh. Also I really like some of the head cannons for Kyoutani in this one and the writing style is super freakin’ good, so it’s definitely worth the read~~~ Pls CHECK TAGS AND WARNINGS cause there are a couple REAL spicy scenes in this one ;)
Team Mom by All_My_Characters_Are_Dead (T) 2.7k // so as I was going through this tag (because that’s what I do LOL), I remembered this fic and I love it. Like yes Yahaba is the fear factor and yes Kyoutani is the DAD. I really like the team dynamics in this one, and the first years make me laugh pls.
Camellias by kiyala (T) 1.9k // I love this fic and when I starting looking for this ship, it was the first one I thought of hehe. I really love magic and their interactions are so cute and the PLANTS ARE DOING THE MOST. Pls read both in the series, cause domestic KyouHaba is best KyouHaba ngl LOL. I love the plants, and if you read the second one, someone tell the trees to stop bullying Yahaba.
Sixth Time’s the Charm by tsumekakusu (T) 2k // ok THIS was SO FREAKING funny, please Yahaba how dumb can you get LOL. The number thing made me facepalm so hard, but the ending was cute and that’s all that matters, right?
Sleep by GangstaCrow (T) 5.5k // the plot twist…. omg…. I had to pause and take a moment of silence for the people suffering because of LL… Poor Kyoutani….. But this is a really funny but cute fic at the same time :D
a little bit funny, this feeling inside by postcanons (G) 5.4k // PLEASE THIS ONE omg crow matchmaker ftw. Like I said, I really love magic and this one is just so freaking funny. Also, very informational curtesy of one Kyoutani Kentarou.
meet me at the fucking pit (and let me hold your hand) by anyadisee (T) 5.4k // IF THE TITLE ISN’T MAKING YOU LAUGH ALREADY WHAT ARE YOU EVEN DOING????? (JK but am I really?) This was SO funny and it KILLED me,,, like all the conspiracies and how everyone was so seriously invested in it. Yes, CHAOS.
if not, winter by knightswatch (M) 54k // YES THIS FIC. THIS ONE RIGHT HERE. I love the development of their relationship,,, IT’S SO GOOD. Like when our boy Yahaba goes on that really friendly field trip and Kyoutani takes matters into his own hands? UGH YES. And when they visit? CUTE OMG. Yes this fic is it.
Isolated Parts by darkmagicalgirl (T) 3.3k // I love this fic cause old men KyouHaba are funny (fight those refs) and I love the nonlinear plot. It really adds another layer to the fic itself, and slowly unraveling the plot through the different years was SO IUAHFJF. I really loved it and piecing everything together :’)
Magicked by HoneyBeeez (T) 8.4k // CHECK TAGS, I love KyouHaba Hogwarts fics, and this one is SO good! We do love some slightly oblivious Yahaba and fake delinquent Kyoutani LOL. Though there is some violence and homophobia so if that puts you off, steer clear of this fic :)
stardust by InkCaviness (G) 1.4k // like I said, in love with KyouHaba and hogwarts fics, anyway,, this one was so short and sweet! It’s full of fluff, and honestly, if you like KyouHaba, read this entire series cause I really love these KyouHaba works :’)))))
New:
knightswatch // GREAT writer, but most of their KyouHaba works are explicit/mature, so be careful as you go through their works! My fav T one? all you have is your fire by knightswatch (T) 6.4k, but they’ve written some of the best KyouHaba I’ve read (they’re just mostly M)!
kiyala // another amazing writer and their works usually alternate between G and E LOL. But, all of their Gs are amazing, and rn my favorite was between Room To Grow by kiyala (G) 50k or Cost by kiyala (G) 1.1k cause it was either secret doggy relationship or magic LOL. But all of their fics are worth reading, and there’s a large variety of AUs!
snoqualmie // I love this writer, but they don’t have much KyouHaba (enough that I would put them here though LOL) My favorite? Mixed Signals by snoqualmie (T) 7.8k // it’s a really cute fic and I love the hc that Kyoutani has the good family! It has like a semi continuation (I think it’s in the same verse as it), but Jan. 6 features the sisters again! (Also yes for veggie fiend Kyoutani,)
tale as old as time by crossbelladonna (series) 30.2k // AHH this series is fully of such good KyouHaba fic!!!! I really love all of them but my favorite is through open doors by crossbelladonna (T) 4.3k // I love soulmate AUs and salty Yahaba is best Yahaba. Also at the end when the coffee incident happens, I love Kyoutani :’)
Words Not Spoken by Dogsocks (series) 51.5k // this is a continuous fic series (meaning all the fics are in the same verse and related to one another), but it’s so FREAKING good and I love reading it!!! It’s got some mentions of ABUSE, and things like that so please read the tags carefully!!!
kyouhaba week by InkCaviness (series) 6.7k // I loved KyouHaba week (all of them are just such AMAZING fics and tropes) and my favorite from this list was stardust by InkCaviness (G) 1.4k // I mentioned what I loved from it above, but it truly is a great fic :D
Kyouhaba Trash Week 2016 by HoneyBeeez (series) 28.9k // all three of these fics are SO good. I literally cannot choose a favorite because I loved all of them :’) Like no joke, just go read all of them because singing Kyoutani? Yes please. And also like the tattoo one was SO ajksdhfkjshdfjkln I LOVED IT AND DON’T GET ME STARTED ON THE HOSPITAL ONE. I loved loved loved the ending, and her going to the school? UGH ADORABLE. These fics were some of my absolute favorite KyouHaba fics!
Venom and Vulnerability by darkmagicalgirl (E) 48.3k // OAAJKSFNKJ I LOVE THIS ONE YES. The concept? AMAZING. Execution? FLAWLESS. This is a GREAT fic and it’s done SO WELL,,,, I realllllly loved the plot in this and their teamwork is making the dream work! WARNING check the tags and warnings cause there’s smut, (non kinky) bondage, and death!
it's tradition. by hicsvntdracones (T) 5.5k // this fic made me want to die from second hand embarrassment. GOD, the awkwardness and really the way they went HARD on those dares PLEASE. If you don’t mind feeling embarrassed (and even if you do) go read this fic cause it’s V funny and the comedy factor cancels out the embarrassment LOL (does it? That’s what I’m tellin myself LOL).
An Equivalent Exchange by Chibs (E) 14.5k // PLEASE THIS WAS FUNNY,,,, like chill Kyoutani, Yahaba is trying his hardest okay? BUT NOT HARD ENOUGH anyway it’s a happy ending in the long run and no one dies :D how nice is that <3 (but the baby agenda? yessssir.)
The Wall Thing by rideahorse (M) 6.8k // THE TENSION :0,,, but I love how many fics go based on that one KyouHaba wall slam in the middle of the Karasuno match LOL. Also, I love the dynamics they have in this one and the way fighting ~is their communication~ Some smut is here so WARNING and they do something about the tension LOL obviously :))) Constantly curing KyouHaba is good, happy Kyouhaba.
Sixteen by surveycorpsjean (E) 13.4k // Yahaba is a basic btch and Kyoutani does football LOL. Honestly, I think that’s a pretty good summary (jk) but what’s a fic without some good tension ;) Also, cheerleader Yahaba lives in my brain rent free and I would like to propose it live in your head as well :D Aren’t I such a kind soul~
Safe in Your Hands by shions_heart (T) 8.9k // um soft KyouHaba? I think yes,,,, this also do be a common trope in the KyouHaba realm, but I’m not complaining,,,, it’s a good trope :) There IS ABUSE in this fic so big warning here! Check the tags and warnings! But the real mvp is the girl on the bus and points to Yahaba for playing spot the difference unintentionally.
The Sweetest Smile by FindingSchmomo (T) 6.6k // cake making! Yes! Bakery! Yes! It’s a great time and think about it, Kyoutani, our baby, working in a bakery making cakes? UGH my heart :’D Yes Oikawa is right, a cute grumpy puppy making flowers (CUTE VERY CUTE) and it doesn’t help that Kyoutani looks like a total bad boy in this fic too :DDDDDD
wear your love like it's made of hate by parenthetic (renaissance) (T) 3.3k // we are starting this off with the alt title totally worked and I would’ve read it either way LOL. Also, the ending was funny and thinking about why everyone was wearing it would’ve been so confusing to the other teams (also shout out to Yahabas line and Kyoutani calling his eyeliner a whore). But yes to random sexual tension, this is KyouHaba nation.
captain's orders by whitemiists (G) 3.7k // okay we love Watari in KyouHaba nation (surprised I haven’t talked about loving Watari yet but better now than never right?), but also Yahaba being messenger for Kyoutani (baby first years are ajhsajdfh). I love this trope and also I love rooftop lunch crew is yes :D
Running In Place by cleiioo (T) 33.3k // GUYS OMG THIS FIC. CAUTION ABUSE AND RUNNING AWAY AND BAD PARENTS SELF DEPRECATION I COULD GO ON BUT BOTTOM LINE IS BE CAREFUL READ TAGS! This fic is UGHHH YES. First, twenty questions make another appearance, and DUCKS. Yes, ducks. But this fic is just written really well, and honestly Kyoutani might be a tad bit ooc, but it’s okay, you don’t even notice. Distracted by the amazing writing :)
Something About Fate by patteh (T) 4.6k // SOULMATES! And then they were soulmates :D I love a good soulmate denial AU, and this is no exception. I loved Yahana’s backstory in this, and I think it set up a great framework for the plots progression! Also, the ending was really cute (and we all know, I’m a sucker for a cute ending :D)
toeing the line by masi (T) 2.7k // the mcDonalds cause WE’RE LOVING IT! But this was a fun read cause a. it goes pretty fast and b. communication exists? ANyway, I like the ending cause Yahaba is one smooooooth btch! It’s just a lot of banter (playful and not), and I’d read tags jic for this fic :)
bumblebee by shizuoh (T) 1.5k // he got sht on by a bumblebee. Points for creativity Yahaba, points. But this is just a fun, random AU where pepperoni on pizza is a universal aggrievance (esp the infused on cheese kind,,, I feel you Yahaba), we disown furries (for good reason), and you confront people staring at you! This IS a flirting 101 textbook. (also yes Yahaba, murder Mattsun!)
The art of fighting in heels by boxofwonder (T) 8.7k // yeah don’t question this fic. It’s like,,, you just kinda,,,, well,,,,,, I mean who doesn’t want to read about Iwa fighting in heels? Like you’re not thinking about magical guy Iwa? Maybe you should. (the way the summary has nothing to do with KyouHaba, I swear they’re a main component, but no thoughts just Iwa in sailor moon cosplay.)
yahaba vs. the miyagi captains by blessings (T) 3.7k // I love this hc and I wish there was more of it because Yahaba picking fights with everyone is fun and I like the chaos :D Like honestly, the creativity of some of the burns? Just amazing, it filled me with serotonin. I’m not kidding :0 But like, Kyoutani having to make sure that he doesn’t go overboard was askfkahf.
Love the One You Hold by shions_heart (T) 3k // f tough KyouHaba, I’m here for the soft, loving KyouHaba. Like mushy feelings KyouHaba, the kind which makes me feel singler than I already am single. Reassuring of feelings and ajsfdhla KyouHaba. The ending is KYAAA!!! Caution for implied bad parents!
a thousand and one roses by rorarot (T) 3.4k // I love florist Kyoutani and it’s honestly a crime I didn’t recommend more florist Kyoutani fics :( Points for the pun, Yahaba, points. Also, the progression of their relationship was YES, and this fic was SUPER cute :D
It Takes Two by Poteto (G) 24.1k // IT’S COHESIVE KYOUHABA WEEK! I really loved this fic and I enjoyed how they incorporated each prompt into each day! There is homophobia and running away so be careful when reading this fic, and check the tags!
So I Like Your Dog by helloyesIamtrash (G) 4.8k // FIRST, this is within a series of soulmate AU fics (all in the same verse) and SECOND, this was really good! I loved the way Yahaba’s family are a bunch of late bloomers and how YAHABA DIDN’T LET THE MF RUN AWAY. Yes communication, WE LOVE AND STAN.
but tonight i'll need you to stay by InkCaviness (G) 2.2k // the feels were strong with this one :’( Pushing my SOFT KyouHaba agenda. But I LOVE this one for the feels and also because they don’t dance around it. Just straight forward, random a confessions. It’s a great time. But also, I can’t believe he slipped LOL.
Down River Road by carafin (G) 4.4k // I love list fics, I think they’re great and I think I might just have a thing for lists in general (LOL). But also, I love the growth both of them undergo over time and the interactions with Oikawa in KyouHaba fics are always fun :)
I (Heart) You by darkmagicalgirl (T) 3.6k // I really like this fic. Like REALLY like/love. Maybe it’s the ending where Yahaba goes ham on that one guy. Or maybe it’s the magic. I think it’s just cause it’s written spectacularly. But no seriously, it’s a great fic and I really loved the AU :D
Five Times Kyoutani Failed to Say 'I love You' (And One Time He Didn't) by patteh (T) 3k // a 5+1! Yes! TBH I don’t understand the importance of saying ily to your significant others (maybe it’s just because I don’t understand romance very well LOL someone explain it to me), but if it’s important to them, IT’S IMPORTANT TO ME. Also, Kyoutani is dog agenda, full force ahead.
Baby steps (or 'Yahaba's guide to applying eyeliner on a grumpy puppy') by ghostsgf (G) 1.5k // more Yahaba and eyeliner fics! Of course :D If you can’t tell, KyouHaba nation and I really love Kyoutani + eyeliner, so yes. Eyeliner. But also, fractured arms and toilet adventures!
baby don't hurt me by orphan_account (M) 4k // LET ME BEGIN THIS WITH THE A/N AT THE END. YES I AGREEEE. Also SMUT alert but like nothing really happens? And again, while I don’t 100% get the ily thing, this one makes more sense to me and I can see why Yahaba got angry. We love crying boys though ahaha.
Retrograde by dreyars (T) 19.5k // AJFJLSFJLASD ANGST THE ANGST AND I- I love amnesia fics, they have such GREAT angst potential (which was totally used in this fic YES!) and UGH this fic. The feels you go through while reading this but ALSO THE ENDING! YES I LOVE. IN LOVE. THEY’RE IN LOVE YOUR HONOR.
restless by Crawlingthroughashes (T) 2.4k // PLEASE the petty Yahaba agenda is back and the way I ajfhdjkadshlf when he started his plan. BRB CRYING (of laughter ofc). Also the CONFRONTATION. Smooth Yahaba, oh so very mf smoooooth (very much so nailed it). Sugar high trick-or-treater in bunny slippers.
The Time Yahaba gained a boyfriend by sammysosa157 (T) 3.8k // PLEASE I saw the post for this fic and it was SO funny! I really loved this prompt, and the execution of it was done really well. Boo for weird food combinations, though ig if you’re in college and you’re broke, you gotta do what you gotta do :/
wanna give you a kiss by Slumber (T) 2.8k // kith give kithes muah muah (omg I’m so sorry you had to read that no regrets tho ahaha only shame). But this fic is SO cute and boyfriend chicken is fun :D Like the fluff in this fics is just so AJKKJAF and like Watari knows best.
Touch by tetskuroo (T) 2.4k // aihdjk PLEASE. This is SOFT! KYOUTANI! and non a hole but pushy! YAHABA! There is HUGGING cause WHY NOT! But the soft Kyoutani agenda is getting pushed hard today LOL. I mean the mans starts to turns the waters works ons. What more could you possibly need? (other than a cuddle session cause why tf not >:( and me to write normally LOL)
what the night does to the day by deathbyglamour (G) 9.9k // AHH HOGWARTS! I realized I forgot to add this fic to the Hogwarts list and I was so angry at myself. The potion version of our get along shirt :) I loved this fic and their relationship development was lovely :DDDD
Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back by Asimi_Shadowborn (T) 30.6k // I love magic AUs and this was ahdjsjjfjs. The trope was amazing, the execution was flawless, and the communication? Nearly nonexistent just how we like it :’) it’s a great read and you’ll regret nothing.
Baby, I bought a dragon by tetsuskitten (T) 1.1k // AJKSFHKJ WITCHES. I love them being witches/warlocks cause IT’S AN AMAZING TROPE DUH. But like the dragon made me laugh, the conman Kuroo is KJAFN. But yes, THERE’S ANOTHER FIC AND IT’S AJSHKJASF YES READ <33333 (why didn’t I just put it as a series, cause I forgot and then I got lazy, leave me be.)
Thorne-blessed by fish_wifey (T) 19.4k // (again, another that HAS ANOTHER FIC but then I was too lazy to transport it up to the series section deal with it.) But THIS YES. First tattoo artist Kyoutani is a sight to see. But also, Yahaba is baby. And like the ending of how it all got resolved was so satisfying and the conflict execution was really creative :D CAUTION FOR THIS ONE, some bullying and violence-ish!
what a wonderful kind of day by qingting (G) 1.2k // PLEASE. I love it when Kyoutani talks to animals, it fills me with joy. But also, ofc points to Yahaba for the new nickname, dog whisperer. Cute and I like it more than Mad Dog chan. Also, Kyoutani’s thoughts on Yahaba were funny and are worth the read LOL. I like pats too, Shiromaru.
what becomes of broken hearts by plumtrees (T) 8.1k // OOOOF some angst right here. Like I’m in paiiiiiiin. But you should read it so we can be in pain together :’D Like the way we had to witness the falling out AND the break up to be happy again. UGH. Just don’t think too much and jump in.
we both know what we know by Slumber (E) 4.7k // UHH EXPLICIT FOR A REASON LIKE WITHIN THE FIRST SECTION I THINK BUT THEN IT CONTINUES AHHAHA. But also, riling Kyoutani up and just teasing him in general? Fun times (at least Yahaba thinks so LOL). But like also, random thought but the comments on the (fake) IwaOi divorce made me laugh LOL.
new constellations by thealmostviki (G) 4.3k // reincarnation AU, but it’s like non linearish! It’s really good and the writing is very eloquent :D I really loved this fic and the ending was UGH adorable! I love references and the way they still feel things in the next lives :’) Milk and honey guys, milk and HONEY.
FINALLY DONE. WHEW. I hope you all enjoyed these fics, and ik my commentary got/was super bad but pls just pretend like you’re not seeing it. I swear once upon a time it was informational but now it’s just me writing random sht down LOL. Again, I love KyouHaba so this honestly was a lot of fun to make (even if I kept complaining about it) and I ended up not splitting the list hence why it’s so long! I hope I made all of you into KyouHaba lovers cause it’s one of my favorite ships :D

How do you think Grayson would act when meeting your younger sibling (like toddler)?
This is such a cute concept ok I wrote this with the thought of like,, 17 year old y/n and Grayson and 6 year old sister
I think before he’d even end up meeting her he’d be so nervous? Like of course he’s excited but he has so many hopes for when he meets her and he’s scared it’s not gonna go how he’s imagining it
You guys are still so young, you both met and became friends as freshmen, and only started dating at the end of sophomore year, but you already knew how much of a baby fanatic he is. He’d mentioned how excited he was to have a kid of his own, and he was always just so fun and loveable around kids. There’s been a few times where you’d gone to the elementary school nearby to volunteer, and Grayson had become best friends with almost every kid in the class you were helping with. It was easy, the kids were naturally attracted to him, and he was just so soft and tender with them. It made your heart swell, sometimes making you think about what it’d be like to have kids of your own with him someday... but you’d of course get embarrassed as soon as the though entered your mind.
Either way, it was safe to say that you were confident that your sister Oviya and your boyfriend would get along.
He, however, was incredibly frantic on the trip over, you having to drive because you didn’t trust him to with his bundle of nerves.
“But what if she doesn’t like me?”
“For the billionth time Gray, she’s going to love you.”
“How do you know? There’s a very big chance she’s gonna hate my guts.”
“You do know she’s a six-year old girl and not a high school cheerleader, right?”
“Y/N seriously! What am I gonna do if she doesn’t like me?” He looks away from the street his eyes have been following and looks at you. “I’m literally already in love with her, she’s the cutest thing ever all the photos you’ve shown me are so adorable and I just want to hug her and be best friendsss” He whines, falling back into the car seat as he brings his hands up to rub his face. “And oh my god that photo you showed me of her in that little blue dress and tiara? The one from her birthday? UGH-” He claps a hand onto his chest and clutches his shirt, groaning. “She owns my heart babe I will be BROKEN if she doesn’t like me, do you hear me? BROKEN!”
You can’t help but try and stifle a laugh, trying to shield your giggles from him as you turn into your street.
He scoffs. “I can’t believe you find this funny.”
“I’m sorry but it is!” You shake your head. “Besides I told you already, it’s not like this is the first first time she’s meeting you, she’s talked to you on the phone before and she loved you then!”
“That doesn’t count.” He crosses his arms. “Some random person on the phone she can forget about isn’t gonna be her best friend.” He mumbles under his breath.
You laugh. “Babe, it is hard enough trying to keep that girl’s attention. The fact that you were able to keep her on the phone for like, 20 minutes, that’s enough to earn you a medal or something.”
He sighs. “I just really want her to fuckin like me.”
You look over at him, his solemn eyes staring out the window, and you can’t help but feel a bit soft for him. “God, you’re adorable.” You say, pulling into your house’s driveway. You park, turn the engine off, and twist in your seat to look at Grayson. “She’s going to adore you. So much.” You take his face and give him a quick peck on the lips, then turn around and step out of the car. “Now come oooon, I’m sure she’ll be-”
“Y/N!!!” You hear that familiar high pitched voice behind you, and you turn to see Oviya standing in the doorway, her hair in two little pigtails and the biggest grin on her face.
You sigh, smiling at her. “-waiting for you.” You finish.
Grayson steps out of the car on the other side, walking around and up to stand beside you, and the second his eyes fall on to the sweet little girl now standing on the porch in her little denim shorts and flashing sneakers, his eyes soften, the smile on his face growing so wide.
"Hey Vi, when’d you get home from school?” You shut the car door and scurry up the steps, bending down to give your sister a hug.
“Just a lil while ago.” Grayson made his way up the steps behind you. Oviya looked up at the boy, and he smiled at her, almost too giddily.
“Hi Oviya, I’m Grayson!” He crouched down next to her, so he was eye level with her. “It’s so nice to meet you!”
“You’ve met me already!” She exclaimed, giggling. Grayson smiled, laughing in return.
“Okay, I guess I have. But I’m happy I get to meet you in person! I love your shoes!” He looks down at them, and she grins at him.
“Thank you! Look, I can do a trick-“ she stomps both her feet on the ground one by one, making them flash pink and blue again.
Grayson gasps. “Oh my gosh, that’s so cool! Where’d you get them? You think they’d have a pair in my size?”
She bursts out laughing at that, and Grayson can’t help but stare at the way her tiny hands come up to cover her face.
You, watching all this, once again feel that familiar warm fuzzy feeling in your chest, the same one you felt when Grayson had talked with Oviya on the phone.
“Oh! Oviya, I’ve got a little surprise for you.” He stands up and slings his knapsack off of his back. You look at him questioningly. What was he up to?
Oviya’s eyes widen. “Ooh! What is it?”
He sticks his hand into his bag, then pulls it back out to reveal a colourful box around the size of one of your school binders.
“Well, Y/N told me that you really like drawing and making art so...” he hands it to Oviya, and she grabs it with wide eyes. You lean over, curious to see what it is he’s giving her, and you eyes widen as well.
“No way did you get her-“
“An art kit??!” She rejoices, her mouth agape as she runs her fingers over the pictures of all the supplies she’d find inside, ranging from pencils to crayons to markers to paints, oh and all the colours and types and papers and—
“Do you like it?” Grayson asks, crouching down again, her silence unnerving him a little bit.
“Oh my gosh yes, thank you!” She places the box on the ground before throwing her arms over his shoulders, hugging him so tight. “Thank you thank you thank you!!”
Grayson grins from ear to ear, wrapping his arms around the small girl. “Of course,” he says, then pulls away from her. “Wanna go try it out?”
“Holy crap yes!!!”
“Hey, language.” You finally speak up, still a bit mesmerized yourself at the gift.
“Sorryy,” she said hastily, picking the box up off the ground and rushing into the house, eager to start using the supplies.
Grayson gets up to follow her, but you grab his arm to stop him.
“Gray, how did you even know she wanted that kit?”
“I saw it in your camera roll, remember? When you were showing me pictures of her? You said she wanted it.”
“So you just got it for her? Gray this thing is like fifty dollars.”
He shrugged. “I’ve been saving up.”
“For what? Like six months??”
“Hey!”
“I know what your allowance is like Dolan.”
He chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. “Does it matter? Look how happy she looks.” He peaked into the house and saw her sitting at the kitchen island, looking through the different patterned papers with stars in her eyes.
You can’t help but feel your heart triple in size. “Fuck, how are you the sweetest boy in the world?” He turns back to face you, smiling again. You return it, almost feeling like there may be tears prickling your eyes. You chuckle, cupping his face in your hands and pressing a soft kiss against his lips.
“I love you.”
He grins. “Yea, I know.”
“Grayson, what’s your favourite colour?” You hear Oviya yell from inside, and Grayson pulls away from you, grabbing your hand to pull you inside the house.
“Why do you ask?”
“I wanna draw you!”
He turns to you again, covering his mouth with his hands. “She’s so fucking cute I’m gonna die.” He whispers to you, and you laugh, closing your front door behind you.

#3 It Was an Accident (Hendery x you)
Third day of Christmas
It Was an Accident (Hendery x you)
Tumblr media
I do not own the pictures, but I own the stories :) hope you enjoy this
Work is over and it’s finally almost the last day of going to the office. Your team has been working super hard this year to win several big projects and the company will be holding a big party to end the year also celebrate Christmas.
It was a usual party, but someone suggested that while in the Christmas vibes, we should play the secret santa. It was easy, within a week you have to give the person’s name you received a gift. You are basically their santa and you have to keep your identity secret. If they found out it’s you it’s basically no fun and who doesn’t like surprises right?
The names were distributed in pieces of papers and you randomly choose one. When you open up the paper you smirk knowing that this is someone easy. Well you’re glad you didn’t get your boss’ name because seriously it’ll be super hard to find a gift for your boss.
On the week of the event, you were quite busy with finishing up your works and also rushing from stores to buy your mother some Christmas tinsels. You actually forgot the whole Secret Santa thing if not for the box of chocolate peeping out of the box written under your name.
“Ooh shit-“you mumbled and look around, no one is in sight and there is another box filled with some wrapped present too.
You pick up the box of chocolate and keep it under your bag, great your secret Santa has made the move. You check your calendar and it’s just two more days to the deadline.
That afternoon after a long meeting with the manager and executive team, you walk around the mall to find a gift that looks nice but still in budget. The group decided on a budget and turns out within that range you can either go funny or really serious.
“Should I get them a mistletoe?” you laugh at your own question, “Nah they’re single.”
You move on to the other shops, thinking of buying them a soap or maybe a lotion? A gift card can be nice too, but boring.
In the end you enter one shop with a very good smell, and you know you’re getting them a candle.
The party was heart-warming and you’re glad you dress up nicely to the fancy restaurant.
You wait as your colleague promised to pick you up since your house is on his way to the restaurant.
“I’m here,” your colleage, Hendery calls you when you’re about to slack on the couch and munch on one of the chocolate you got from your Santa. You put the chocolate back and step out of your apartment.
“Hey!” you greet him once you step into his nice car. It smells good and he looks stunning with his suit and hair styled.
“You look beautiful,” he bashfully compliments you.
You glance and smile, “You too.” He makes sure your seatbelt is on and makes his way to the restaurant.
Hendery is a fun guy and he just always has his way of cracking jokes.
“I wonder why you didn’t be a comedian at first.” You tease him after calming down yourself from laughing too hard on his jokes.
Hendery glances at you and back to the road, “Well I wanted to be an actor not a comedian, but here I am working with you inside the office from nine to five. Attending meeting and listening to client’s complain about our new game.”
You’re working on an online game company and while Hendery works for the finance, you’re in the marketing team. It was a fun job, sometimes when the new game was developed you guys got to try the game first and provide feedbacks.
The ride to the restaurant comes to an end, Hendery tosses his car keys to the Valet man and like a gentleman, he offers you his arm and you gently take it.
“The dinner reservation for Marble Corp.” Hendery calmly answers the welcome lady, she ushers the two of you to a private area and there you see some of your friends already seated nicely.
“Hey (Y/n) and Hendery!!” a man with black and highlighted blonde hair waves to call the two of you. He is Ten, our company’s design artist. He is in charge of drawing the game’s characters and landscapes.
Hurriedly you sit beside Ten, he is your best (friend) colleague here after Hendery.
“Are you going anywhere Ten?” you ask, he usually travels on Winter breaks and he always brings you something as a souvenir.
He nods, “I’m going home, want to join? Thailand may be interesting for you.” He offers you a glance of the date he booked his flight.
You kindly reject his offer, “Oh thank you, but I had planned a trip too with Hendery and Yang Yang.” You sigh suddenly feeling like you made a wrong decision. Across you were Yang yang, the German boy who worked on storyline and Hendery both talking about their holiday plan.
Ten snorts at your answer, “I guess you can still change your flight to Thailand and be with me, where are you heading to?”
Your eyes lit up, “Going to Macau, Hendery promised he would bring us to his casino place and maybe… maybe if luck is in our side, we can win big.”
Ten nods his head, “Quite interesting, Macau can be a great place to rest. I just hope those two dorks won’t be giving you a hard time.”
You down the wine on your glass, “I hope so! I’ll fly to you if they hurt my head!”
Ten runs a hand lovingly on your hair, “Of course! Your Ten here will always welcome you with open hands.”
You don’t bother his action, Ten is already like your brother so you don’t mind his actions. If that was done by someone else, you’d already flung your hand on their face.
The head of the corporation comes in and after his short speech the dinner is started.
With stories exchanged between all of you and the wine accompanying the night, you’re glad you are not a light drinker. The night is getting older and after the desert and closing remarks, some of your colleagues left.
“(Y/n), want to go back already? I guess everyone is leaving after this.” Hendery who looks sober asks you. You just finished one and a half glass, because you had to make sure you got home safe.
You nod your head and bid farewell to Ten and your other friends. It’s a great night to end your work for this year.
“Hey are you by any chance still hungry?” Hendery asks after the two of you leave the place.
You grin, “You’re still hungry right?”
He nods, “The portion is too small! I say I need some milkshake or some sweet deserts now.” He licks his lips and you agree, “Okay we’ll stop for milkshakes!!”
Hendery changes lane and the two of you go to your favorite milkshake store. The place was a bit crowded, but you got a place for two.
“Let me order, you want Vanilla right?” he sorts of remember your favorite flavour.
You nod, quite surprised he remembers this.
Hendery returns with a plate of waffle and two glasses of vanilla.
“Thank you,” you reach out for your wallet, but he was faster. He holds your hand and shake his head.
“No need… Uhm how do I explain this,” he bites his lips and fiddles with his thumb.
You raise your eyebrow, and he finally starts explaining things.
“Look (y/n), I was your secret Santa, but I accidentally gave you a box of out of date chocolates.” He pulls his textbook smiley face and your jaw drops, gosh lucky you haven’t eaten any of it.
“So as an apology, now I am buying you drink and waffle.” He giggles and when you laugh out loud, Hendery feels like the biggest rock in his life is destroyed.
“Yow what you bought a box of outdated chocolates? Poor you! How can you?” you wonder as you sip into your drink.
Hendery shyly rubs his neck, “I read the date wrong. I messed the date and month…”
You roll your eyes, “Not surprised! As expected, our dear Hendery! Once again making me laugh so hard tonight.”
He nervously looks at your happy face, it’s the same person who always makes his day brighter. He feels like he can be himself and still get a smile on your face. He’s a sucker for you, yet he cannot bring himself to actually tell you how interesting you are and how pretty you look everyday when he saw you from the table across yours. Hendery likes to see how you focus on your screen and pout when the computer lacks, or the internet is acting up. He loves the way your laugh tingles his ear when he successfully cracks another joke. All in all, he loves you, because you never hates his dorky side of him and he likes you because you are super unique and fits into his puzzle piece.
“I am surprised my secret Santa got me a perfect gift right now,” he suddenly speaks up and you turn nervous.
“Huh? What did you get?” you look curiously as he takes something out of his pocket.
“I got a nice aromatherapy candle and this,” he brings out a small mistletoe and hangs it above the two of you.
You blush and gasp, everyone knows when two people are under a mistletoe, they have to kiss. So are you going to kiss him or will he kiss you? How awkward will it be if you just sit there dumbly? Will Hendery hates you?? Oh but he looks so charming and admit it you’ve always love his lips.
“A mistletoe?” you stutter. He nods his head, “Perfect for this moment, right?”
You close your eyes as he inches forward to seal your lips with his and you’re glad you’re sitting down now as you can feel your legs shaking.
He pulls back and some people around your table are shooting the two of you a thumbs up or just a secret smile.
You hide your red cheeks with your hands and Hendery sits back on his chair.
“So, want to admit whose name did you get?” he smirks.
You bite your lips, “You. I got your name, and yeah both of them are from me… Do you know that?”
He shakes his head, “I wasn’t sure at first, but I sort of worked out the others’ so I am left with your name or Yang yang’s and I know Yang yang would never buy me a candle. I am actually surprised with the mistletoe.”
You shrug your shoulder, “I don’t know what was in my head when I drop an additional mistletoe there, I just feel like you deserve to kiss someone this Christmas.”
He ruffles your hair and gives you the sweetest smile in the world, “And I am glad I got to kiss the one I like this Christmas.”
see you tomorrow!!

A Miraculous Reveal - New York
Ack! Apparently, I remembered to post this one to discord, but not to tumblr. I apologize to my tumblr followers if they only get stuff here. But here it is now! It’s a Ladynoir angst to happy ending reveal based on the New York Special. Please enjoy.
___
Adrien slipped into the silver limo and the door thudded closed behind him with a finality that made Marinette flinch. A moment later, the car pulled out onto the road. Watching the vehicle fade away into the grey haze of drizzly rain, two things were suddenly very clear to her.
She didn’t want Adrien to go. He was precious to her in a way that she could not define. He possessed an unending patience, he had the sweetest and softest smiles for her even when she was babbling or stuttering incoherently, and he was kind. She just didn’t know a lot of boys who were just so genuinely compassionate. She clearly had never really gotten over her crush on him despite her best efforts.
But in that moment as the car turned around a corner and completely out of sight, it was surprisingly easy to imagine her life without him. If Adrien disappeared she would grieve, but she would heal, and she would be okay.
No, the gaping hole in her chest had an entirely different source.
It was Chat Noir that she did not know how to live without.
Read on Ao3
Because it was Chat Noir who had her back every time hers was against a wall, Chat Noir who made her laugh when life seemed impossible to face, Chat Noir who offered her advice and insight whenever she asked even when it was about her feelings for someone else, and Chat Noir who built her up and encouraged her in her lowest moments.
And she was never going to see him again.
Marinette fell to her knees, barely noticing the unforgiving impact of the cement below or the cold water seeping up her pant legs from the ground. Hot tears slipped down her cheeks in contrast with the sky’s frigid rain drops. Her whole form trembled like a leaf in an autumn storm as her tears finally caught up to her.
She gripped his ring in her fist, its edges biting into her palm. It was wrong that she had it. It was his. But she couldn’t return it to him. She didn’t know his name. She didn’t know anything about him.
And now he was gone.
It wasn’t fair. Hadn’t she done everything right? She tried to be responsible, she always followed the rules, and she sacrificed so much of her normal life to make sure she could be the heroine that Paris needed. Why had everything blown up in her face so colossally?
Chat Noir was gone.
He had supported her through her worst mistakes. Had he not trusted her to do the same for him?
A warmth cuddled at her neck in contrast to the cold damp air around them. “Marinette?”
“I-I’m sorry, Tikki,” Marinette choked out, as she turned away from the red kwami on her shoulder. “I can’t do this anymore. Not… not without him.”
A black streak flew in front of her face. “Then why’d you yell at him?” Plagg demanded.
Her vision was too blurry with tears to make the kwami of destruction come into focus. “Because I was angry! I didn’t think he’d leave!” she countered sharply. “I had every right to be mad at him, Plagg. He promised me that he’d protect Paris in my absence. And then he didn’t.”
To her shock, the kwami wilted like a plant without water. “That… might have been my fault.”
“Plagg?” Tikki asked, a disapproval to her voice that Marinette rarely heard. “What did you do?!”
The miniature cat whirled to face his opposite. “You don’t understand! He never gets to have any fun! He’s always locked up! Every moment of almost every day is planned and scheduled. He’s not allowed to spend time on his hobbies if they are not pre-approved. He doesn’t get to just hang out with his friends! It’s amazing he manages to sneak away to become Chat Noir when he needs to!” He rose and fell in the damp air with a deep sigh.
“He’s my chosen, Tikki,” Plagg continued, his voice more subdued. “He deserves to have freedom.” He said it like a wish.
Salty tears flooded Marinette’s eyes all over again. Her partner didn’t have any freedom in his life? She hadn’t realized. He had always seemed so carefree. He seemed like such a goofball. But she had never asked.
How could she not have known? She should have known.
But they weren’t supposed to know anything about each other.
Another sob threatened to erupt from her throat. She fought it down.
Plagg continued. “A chance for a vacation popped up and he wasn’t going to go! He was all disgusting like, ‘I promised Ladybug I’d be here.’ I may have convinced him that the risk was really small, that he could watch the news constantly on the trip, and hurry back if anything happened.”
Tikki’s antennae vibrated back and forth in agitation.
“And it would have worked if there hadn’t also been villains here. How was I supposed to know that New York was infested with a cesspool of villains and subpar heroes?!” Plagg demanded with all the self righteousness of a wounded animal.
Marinette absorbed this new information stoically. The drizzling rain was starting to soak through her clothes and hair, but she couldn’t bring herself to care.
“He deserved the chance to go, too!” Plagg insisted childishly. “Why did your chosen get to go, and mine didn’t? And it’s not like you didn’t know he was here, Tikki! You’re so quick to point fingers after the fact.”
Tikki opened her mouth to argue, but Marinette put a hand up. “It doesn’t matter. He made his choice.” She honestly didn’t know if she was referring to his choice to go to New York, or to his choice to give up his miraculous. “And now, I have no way of finding him.”
And she dissolved into shaking sobs again. “It’s not fair,” she cried. “W-why did I have to realize that I loved him now? When it’s too late.”
She leaned back against a brick wall, the rain still falling down around her. Her pigtails were weeping with excess water. Her lined jacket faired a little better. The cold wet at least hadn’t seeped down to her skin yet.
Plagg zipped up to her face, his eyes searching her face. “You love him?” he whispered. “Chat Noir, him?”
Marinette just dissolved into a new round of wracking sobs.
The tiny catlike kwami patted her cheek. “It’s not too late!” he insisted. “I can help you find him. We’ll give him back the miraculous together.”
Marinette tried to stamp out the hope that sprouted in her chest at those words.
“She can’t know who he is!” Tikki objected.
Plagg whirled to face his counterpart. “Why not?” he asked seriously. “The old man’s gone. She’s the Guardian now.”
Marinette buried her head into her sopping wet knees. Her throat closed off again, making words impossible.
Tikki had no trouble forming words, however. “It’s still a risk. She’s been akumatized, Plagg! She almost handed her earrings right over. And if Chat Noir were akumatized she would be the only defense against unlimited destruction!”
Plagg hissed in displeasure. “Did it ever occur to you that they might be less vulnerable to akumas if they knew each other?!”
“Please stop arguing,” Marinette begged.
Both kwamis instantly stilled.
“I don’t know if I should know who he is yet. But I do know that I can’t be Ladybug without him.”
“But Marinette!” Tikki objected.
Marinette held up her hand. “I don’t want to stop being Ladybug, Tikki. So we need to get Chat back somehow.”
Plagg spun in a happy circle. “I always knew I liked you, Pigtails.”
“Do you have any ideas, Plagg?” Marinette asked, finally letting the sapling of hope in her chest grow unfettered. “Do you know where he’s headed? Is he close enough that you could go directly to him?”
“I don’t think I could get to the airport before he gets on a plane. But it doesn’t matter because I don’t think he’ll take me back. Even if I bring the ring with me. As long as he thinks you’re still mad at him he’s going to reject me.”
“Oh! I am furious with him!” she growled. “But I don’t want him to quit!” And then her face lit up. “That’s it!”
“What’s your plan?” Tikki asked excitedly, spinning around in anticipation.
She turned to her friend and confidant. “You know where he’s going, too, right?”
“The airport. But Marinette, Plagg is right. I likely can’t get to him before the plane takes off, and what if the earrings fell into the wrong hands along the way?!”
“So, you’re saying that I can only go to him once we get home?” Marinette asked, her voice heavy with disappointment. “But…”
“Ladybug?” A warm synthetic voice chimed in. “I need your help.”
Marinette started, whirling toward the mechanical voice behind her. “Uncanny Valley?”
“The akuma is back and it’s gotten worse. I need your help,” the other hero told her without preamble.
Marinette’s chest tightened in panic. She couldn’t face an akuma. Not right now.
Not without her partner.
“I… I want to help,” Marinette confided. “But… I can’t… Not without him.”
Uncanny Valley smiled. “I can help with that.”
Adrien leaned forward in the padded seat on his father’s private chartered plane, his head tucked between his knees as he silently berated himself for every decision he had made over the last three days.
What had he been thinking? He had known Ladybug was out of town and that Paris was undefended. And he had gone anyway.
And Paris had paid the price.
Just so he could have a few days in New York with his friends. How ridiculously irresponsible and childish of him.
The resulting damage to Paris could not be undone.
He buried his fists into his hair, tugging at the golden strands in self-loathing frustration.
And then, once in New York, he had almost failed in the worst way possible. He had almost killed Ladybug. His partner!
The woman he still loved despite trying to move on.
And if he had, he’s not sure how he ever would have recovered. If it hadn’t been for Uncanny Valley absorbing his cataclysm, everything would have been lost.
Everything.
And that was on him.
Uncanny Valley had died to save everyone.
He had killed her. He hadn’t meant to. But he had still taken a life with his own power. Even if it was an accident. He had killed someone. Chat Noir was supposed to be a good guy, a hero, and he had killed someone. And not just anyone.
Aeon.
The bright and precious girl that had been following Jess around the whole trip. Ladybug’s charm may have brought the girl back, but it could never erase the moment when the dark haired girl had lain in her mother’s arms, unmoving, from his mind’s eye.
Frustrated tears leaked from his eyes, and his form shook silently.
He knew he wasn’t worthy of being Chat Noir.
Not anymore. His selfish choice to go on a school field trip had ruined everything.
His father was right about him.
Dear god, he didn’t want to face his father.
He dreaded arriving home. He knew that his life was different now. He had no way to escape his hollow and empty room at any time of day or night, no Plagg to keep him company, and he would no longer be able to hang out with or help his lady.
He knew would see her. It would be impossible not to. She still lived in Paris, and Hawkmoth was still at large. But it would be from a distance, and even if they happened to be in the same place at the same time, she wouldn’t know that it was him.
But he couldn’t bring himself to grieve those pieces yet. Because that was only being selfish. And being selfish is what caused the whole disaster in the first place.
A loud pop interrupted his internal self loathing. The air around him was suddenly roaring with the change in pressure. It lasted only for a moment, before everything went still again.
He turned around. Uncanny Valley stood before him with a bright metallic smile.
He smiled back, tears burning at the edges of his green eyes at seeing her unharmed once again.
She stared at him for a moment without saying anything before holding out a familiar octagonal black box.
“Your services are needed, Chat Noir.”
He stiffened at the address. She knew. Knew that he was the one that had killed her and she had come to him anyway.
Adrien held up his hands defensively and took a step back. “No, I am not worthy of the ring.”
She should know that better than anyone.
Her silver smile never faltered. “Good thing I didn’t bring a ring, then.”
She held out the miraculous box again.
His curiosity got the better of him, and he opened the box despite his reservations, only to drop it to the ground immediately at sight of the spotted earrings.
Adrien was already shaking his head when the swirl of pink sparkles diminished revealing the red kwami he had met only once before.
“She can’t give me her miraculous!” he screamed. “Tikki! What is she thinking?! She knows that I’m irresponsible and can’t be trusted! I proved that today!”
“Adrien,” Tikki soothed, holding her tiny hands out in a placating gesture. “I need you to calm down.”
“You want me to be calm?!” He was shaking like a jet engine. “Tikki, I almost killed her today. Me,” he stabbed his own thumb into his chest. “I did that. It was only because of her,” he gestured wildly toward Uncanny Valley, “that I didn’t.”
“It was an accident, and it turned out okay,” Tikki reassured.
“It almost didn’t,” he repeated stubbornly, letting himself fall back into his seat with his hands clenched into fists.
“Who are you talking to?” Uncanny Valley asked him, her head cocked to the side in confusion.
His green eyes darted towards the other hero for a second, and then back to the red kwami. “Tikkis is the kwami that is bonded with the creation miraculous?”
“What is a kwami? I’m unfamiliar with this classification.”
“She can’t perceive me because we are invisible to cameras,” Tikki explained impatiently.
“Kwamis are like spirits or gods of an idea. Every miraculous has one. They embody the jewelry with their powers,” Adrien explained.
“Fascinating,” Uncanny commented. “What does this creature look like?”
“We don’t have time for this,” Tikki interjected. “Can you please tell her to just playback Ladybug’s message?”
“Ladybug left me a message?” he prompted.
“Yes, of course!” Uncanny held her mouth open, but it was Ladybug’s voice that filled up the room.
“Chaton, I…” her voice trembled, and he knew she was barely holding back tears. “I don’t know what to say to you. I just… I need you to come back. I don’t know how to do this without you…” she trailed off, breaking into a sob.
His throat dropped painfully into his chest. He had made his lady cry. Even after everything, it was her voice that could break him.
She managed to recover, and continued, her voice harder. “I was angry with you for leaving Paris when you said you would be there,” she paused for a second. He could picture her glaring holes through his mask too easily. “But I am more angry that you left me today. How could you do that?” she raged. “When things get hard, when we make mistakes, I need you more! I need you to step up! Not run away.”
“I can’t do this without you,” and here her tone had shifted once again. Now, she was all business, all confident Ladybug with a convoluted plan that would bring everything together. He couldn’t suppress the fond smile that sprouted across his face. “So, I’ve decided that I’m not going to.
“I quit,” she said firmly and decisively.
Wait! What?! But she couldn’t do that! Paris needed her! No one could replace Ladybug.
“Now there’s no one to protect Paris or New York except you. Good luck!”
Uncanny Valley closed her mouth, the recording finished, and looked at him expectantly.
He knew Ladybug was manipulating him, but god damn it, he was never not going to do what she wanted.
He wiped tears from his face that he hadn’t realized he had cried. “She can’t give up, Tikki,” he sobbed. “I’ll go today if she needs me. I will go and return her earrings, but she needs to find a new partner. I definitely don’t deserve any miraculous.”
Tikki shot up to his face. “Adrien! This isn’t about what you deserve or don’t! This is about what she needs! And she needs you! You are her opposite and her partner. You cannot just be replaced. That’s not how this works!”
“She deserves better,” he insisted again, like a broken record.
“Do you not want to be Chat Noir anymore?” the tiny bug asked softly.
He sighed. “Of course I want to be Chat Noir, but there’s a difference between what I want and what is best for everyone! I proved over the last few days that I can’t be trusted not to make selfish choices!”
“That right there is proof you can be trusted!”
Adrien’s eyebrows furrowed together in genuine confusion. “What do you mean?”
“You’re willing to step down and pass on your position to another, even though you don’t really want to because you think that’s what’s best. That’s the opposite of selfish, Adrien.”
“But how can she trust me anymore? I let her down,” he whispered.
Tikki spiraled in the air in clear agitation. “Do you think you’re the first miraculous holder to make a huge mistake? Ladybug screwed up just last month and Master Fu’s identity and safety was compromised! And as a result, every temporary hero’s identity was revealed!”
“But that was an accident!” he growled back.
The kwami whipped up to his face.
“Exactly! It was an accident!”
He felt like she had just punched him.
“And Master Fu responded to her mistake by making her the Guardian!”
The kwami pulled herself back with a sigh, her tone once again soft and patient. “Because he was wise enough to know that the biggest mistakes often result in the greatest learning! And that Ladybug is not defined by her mistakes.
“And you aren’t either, Adrien. Ladybug can trust you more after you’ve made this mistake and learned from it, than she could before you ever made it.”
She paused for a moment as if searching for words. Then she darted right back into his personal space. “Never making mistakes does not make you worthy of your miraculous. Learning from your inevitable mistakes and taking responsibility for them is what makes you the perfect holder of the black cat.”
He hung his head. He wanted to believe Tikki. He did. Then everything could go back to normal.
“Do you believe in her or not?” Tikki asked into the silence.
“More than anything on this earth.” The words left him in a whisper.
“Well then!” Tikki continued passionately. “Believe that she’s right when she says that you are needed.”
Adrien wanted to argue. He feared Ladybug was wrong about him, and he was positively terrified of disappointing her all over again.
But if her message was to be believed it was his leaving that disappointed her the most.
He sighed, feeling emotionally exhausted and battered, but he couldn’t argue anymore. Tikki has definitely given him a lot more to think about.  “And here I was thinking you would be nicer than Plagg.”
“What?!” Tikki screeched indignantly, shooting up another foot into the air. “I’m definitely the nice one!”
He shook his head in disagreement even as he smiled, enjoying the rare chance to rib a kwami even if it wasn’t the one who gave him a hard time constantly.
“So, how do I find her?” he asked.
“It won’t be hard,” Uncanny Valley interjected. “You just need to go where the akuma is.”
He launched himself to his feet. “There’s an akuma?! Why didn’t either of you lead with that?!” he demanded even as he rapidly thrust the earring posts into his ears.
“Tikki! Spots on!” The creative energies crackled over his form, feeling somehow warm and soft, so unlike his normal destructive power. He stuffed down all his doubts and self-loathing. That could all wait.
There was an akuma to fight.
And his lady needed him.
“Watch out!”
Lady Noire dropped to the concrete, cursing the non specificity of the warning. Chat would have told her left or right, up or down in the same number of words. The blast of power rushed over her head and missed her, if only just, so she supposed she couldn’t complain. At least she had an ally in Sparrow. It was better than facing this akuma alone.
Because this akuma - she was blanking on his name. Techno something? But didn’t it also have something to do with the Miraculous? It didn’t matter! Lady Noire couldn’t keep it all straight! That’s what Chat and his love of comics and manga was for! The point was, whatever his name, this akuma sucked!
She vaulted upwards, launching herself from the ground to a street lamp, to one of the lower buildings in the forest of skyscrapers.
Remaining at street level was dangerous. There were too many alleyways and blocked sight lines. But leaping from rooftop to rooftop was almost as bad because it left no places to hide, no options for cover even if she could see all her adversaries coming. And she had to fend off Majestia, Knight Owl, and the akuma on miraculous steroids simultaneously.
At least she was in the clear for the moment. There was no sign of any of them. A distant crash thundered. Lady Noire sighed. Majestia was probably destroying more buildings trying to flush them out.
“Hey, Lady Cat!” Sparrow called. “Follow me!” Then she ducked through an open window a dozens of stories off the ground into a conference room of some sort.
And with another sigh, Lady Noire did just that. She and Sparrow huddled with their heads together out of sight, crafting a new strategy. And again, with Chat, the conversation would have been unnecessary. He could glean her plans from a gesture or three words of explanation.
But she and Sparrow didn’t have that level of intuitive communication. Lady Noire liked Sparrow. The Parisian hero related to the other girl’s desire to prove herself, and she knew the other girl's heart was in the right place. But they didn’t have any experience with each other.
So it took thirty seconds of rapidly exchanged words before they were on the same page and back in the air fighting. It had only been thirty seconds, but how many buildings had Majestia managed to demolish in that time?
Lady Noire honestly didn’t have time to count, as she ducked under yet another projectile - this one launched at her by Knight Owl.
The time delay had been worth it though. She and Sparrow were tag teaming better, grabbing the brainwashed heroes’ attention before they could take out their compromised morals on the city too badly, and covering each other’s back when their three adversaries converged on one of them.
But every move was defensive. They had no plan for an offensive strike. It was all they could do to not get hit by the akuma’s beam.
She wished Chat Noir was there.
She was certain he would come back. He would never leave her hanging. She had absolutely no doubt.
But would he make it back in time? Before her luck ran out completely?
She pounced out of the way of another strike, only to dodge into the blow of another. She had time to curse her mistake, but no time to course correct.
Just when she thought it was over, a flash of red body-slammed her into a third direction.
Relief flooded through her at the familiar sensation of his form pressed against her own. They both readily rolled to their feet, and slid into fighting stances side by side.
“You okay?” he called.
She flashed him a huge grin. “Never better, bugaboy!” Now that he was here.
And unlike the first time they had swapped kwamis, they were perfectly in sync. Even for them, it was impressive. It felt like she could read his mind and he hers.
Or maybe, it was just the contrast of working with Sparrow. Or was her name Eagle now?
Whatever the case, she could feel the difference. Chat Noir was her partner, her other half. He had stolen her heart somewhere along the way, and she couldn’t wait to tell him, even if she would never hear the end of it.
He called for a lucky charm, and she jutted her chin towards a parked taxi cab. He flashed her a grin, and dove into action. And that’s what she meant. He just understood.
“Sorry, Miraclonizer,” Mr. Bug called to the akuma an instant before Lady Noire shot out of the cab and cataclysmed his object. “Third time was not your charm.”
Majestia and Knight Owl cornered the healed villain within seconds of Mr. Bug purifying the butterfly and healing the city.
But Lady Noire paid none of them any mind. She launched herself into her partner’s arms the second it was safe to do so. He caught her as if she weighed nothing, absorbing her momentum with a twirl before pulling her against him.
She had never felt safer.
“Don’t ever do that to me again,” she told him, her voice hard. It was the only defense she had against immediately dissolving into a puddle of tears at his feet.
“I wouldn’t dream of it m’lady,” he breathed into her braid. “Shall we go somewhere to talk?”
She nodded into his shoulder. “Go, recharge Tikki. And then we’ll meet up on the Statue of Liberty?”
She bounded away without a word to the American heroes, before ducking into a secluded alleyway three blocks away and letting her transformation shimmer away.
“I don’t have any cheese,” she reported solemnly as she offered one of Tikki’s cookies to the limp kwami that had just fallen into her hands.
“I’ll live,” he replied gruffly, eying the proffered pink macaron suspiciously as if she were offering him poison. He took it, flipped it over and inspected it, before taking the smallest of nibbles.
She sighed. “I’ve seen you inhale cheese, Plagg. I don’t suppose I could bribe you with a promise of a wheel of Camembert later to just hold your nose and inhale that, now?”
“What’s your rush, Pigtails?” he asked, taking another infinitesimally small bite. “The akuma has been defeated already. Your job is done.”
“I just…” she looked away. “I don’t want him to spook.”
Which was a lie. She knew he’d be there. But she… she had lost him today. He walked away once. He might do it again. She wouldn’t feel secure until she had seen him, until he had promised with more than words that he wasn’t going anywhere.
He eyed her. “You can trust him, you know. He’ll wait for you.”
“Like I could trust him to protect Paris in my absence?” she bit back.
Plagg said nothing. Just took another tiny bite if one could call it that.
She sighed, idly running her fingernail along the alley brick wall. “I’m sorry. I’m trying not to be angry. I don’t want him to run again.”
“You don’t have to be what others expect you to be, you know.”
Her eyes whipped to the kwami floating in the dim light of a flickering street lamp. “What do you mean?”
He darted around in an animated circle. “You don’t have to be the bigger person. You can be angry. He can take it. He has lots of practice.”
She hissed at those words, hating that any piece of them could be true, and that she still didn’t know enough about his civilian life to refute or understand them.
“But this isn’t about him, or your feelings for him,” Plagg continued. “This has nothing to do with him at all. This has to do with you being the Guardian.”
She frowned. “I’m not following.”
“You don’t have to be what Paris expects you to be. Or what Chat Noir expects you to be. You don’t have to be what Master Fu expected you to be either.”
Her eyes watered unexpectedly at the mention of her old mentor.
“You just have to be you,” Plagg concluded.
Her knuckles buried themselves into her eyes, as she tried to fight back tears. “But I keep messing up.”
“That’s because you’re trying to follow the rules instead of following your instincts!”
“A hero thinks with her brain, not her heart!” she countered hotly.
“No! You need to think with your gut! Your brain is not what helps you decipher Tikki’s charms. I love her, but that girl can be obtuse! No, you have to follow your intuition, and trust that even if you don’t know what the final piece is when you’re halfway through some convoluted plan, you’ll recognize it when you see it.”
She bit her lip, considering his words. His description of unraveling the mystery of a lucky charm wasn’t wrong.
“Like, why didn’t you bring the horse miraculous on this trip? I know you thought about it!”
Her eyes narrowed at his tone.“Because Master Fu said that having too many miraculouses out and active was too risky!” she began defensively.
“You already proved that your determination, creativity, and your faith in your partner was more effective than that old man’s paranoia when you defeated Feast.”
The miniature floating cat took another crumb off Tikki’s cookie. “The old man is gone! You need to figure out your own way of doing things. His ways won’t work for you because you’re not him.”
“But… I’m just a teenager. I don’t know what I’m doing. He had so much more experience. He kept you all safe for centuries. Who am I to say that his methods were wrong?”
“Who are you?” Plagg repeated indignantly. “You are Ladybug! You have never lost. You are now the Guardian. You are Marienette Dupain-Cheng who is quite accomplished in her own right!”
Her eyes burned at the praise. And coming from Plagg who pretended he didn’t care about anything? Well, that meant a lot to her. Especially today when she was feeling so raw and like she had screwed up just for coming on this trip at all.
“And just so you know, Master Fu took on the role of the Guardian when he was twelve. He didn’t know what he was doing either. He made tons of mistakes. You will too, but they don’t have to be the same ones.”
Marinette leaned up against the wall behind her, carefully considering every word. “Why are you telling me all this?” she whispered.
He flipped the cookie over on its end and nibbled into the untouched end. Really, the whole cookie looked unmarred. They were going to be here all night.
“You brought my kid back. You didn’t let him go. I figure I owe you a favor.”
She smiled softly. “You seem to care about him a lot.”
He frowned. “He gives me only the finest of camembert!” he gushed. “Not every holder can pull that off, you know.”
Marinette reached out and scratched the little cat behind his ear, and to her delight he leaned into the caress and purred. She suspected Chat Noir meant far more to the kwami than cheese, but she wasn’t going to call him out on it.
“Tikki says you can’t ever take anything seriously.”
He looked affronted. “I can be serious!” he argued. “When it’s important!”
She giggled. “I can see that,” she conceded. “Thanks, Plagg! I think I needed to hear this.”
“Like I said, I owed you a favor. It’s nothing more than that.”
“Oh, of course,” she agreed readily, an amused smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
He popped the rest of the cookie in his mouth, and gulped it down in one swallow.
“So are we going to go meet my kid or what?” Plagg asked. “We shouldn’t keep him waiting all night! He’s going to think you’re still mad at him or something.”
“Are you serious right now?” she screeched, staring at the stoic kwami in complete disbelief. “You were just pretending you had to eat that cookie so slowly?”
He did the kwami equivalent of a shrug. “You asked me to hurry it up. And I did! Don’t know what you’re complaining about.”
“Oh my god! You’re impossible!”
“Still waiting on you, Pigtails,” he countered smugly.
“Plagg, claws out!” she growled out, his laughter echoing in the humid frigid air around her even after he was sucked into the ring.
Dark crackling energy enveloped her body from head to toe, thrumming with raw power and energy. Her normal transformation felt warm and comforting. And the black cat wasn’t cold - it was more like lightning. And once her transformation was complete she just needed to move, to run, to pounce, to be free.
She vaulted from the ground, shooting off towards the monument of liberty that she could see clearly now that it had stopped raining, eager and excited to speak with her partner.
As she approached, she could see he was already there - a spot of red that stood out against the green of the statue’s oxidized copper. He was sitting under that railing of Lady Liberty’s torch, his legs dangling playfully over the edge.
She vaulted up and landed next to him in a feline crouch.
“M’lady!” he greeted brightly as if they hadn’t planned on meeting not twenty minutes prior. “I was starting to get worried. What happened?”
“Plagg happened,” she growled. “Apparently, he eats cookies really really really slowly.”
He laughed. And god, it was a gorgeous sound. One that she would never take for granted again. “Yeah, he’s pretty annoying when it comes to food.”
She sat down next to him, closer than she normally would have, wanting to have him close. She crossed her legs at the ankles and they stayed relatively calm compared to his active swinging. Neither of them spoke for a minute, they were just staring over the city of lights. The city that was not their own, but they had just saved.
“Thank you,” she whispered into the silence.
His spring-green eyes snapped to her in surprise. “For?”
“For coming back,” she told him simply, still not daring to look at him. If she looked at him she was fairly certain she would cry. And while tears were likely inevitable this evening, she didn’t want to start off with them.
“I’m sorry for ever leaving,” he told her solemnly.
“It’s…” she broke off. She was going to say that it was okay, but it wasn’t. “Thank you for saying that,” she said instead. “Can you promise me something?”
“Anything,” he said immediately. Her eyes jumped towards his face, surprised at his total lack of hesitation. He gazed back at her, his face calm and serene as the breeze that swept across their cheeks.
“You don’t want to know what it is first?” she asked.
He shook his head with a soft smile. The expression almost seemed familiar, but she couldn’t place it. “I already know I would do almost anything for you, M’lady. I thought you would have known that by now. And the one or two things I wouldn’t be able to do, you would never ask.”
Heat bloomed across her cheeks at his raw faith in her. She was never certain how she had earned it.
“What did you want to ask?” he prompted when she still didn’t explain.
“Just that… next time, if there’s a next time, which I hope there won’t be,” she rambled. “But if there is a next time, can you please talk to me first? Before you make your decision?”
He stared at her for a second. “Next time for what?” he finally asked.
She glanced at him, then looked back down to her knees. “A next time you want to quit…”
“Oh…”
And then he said nothing. And she couldn’t stand it. Her gloved fingers writhed in her lap.
“It’s just… you left without letting me say goodbye,” she confessed, her voice softer than the cold breeze. But she knew he could hear her. She looked back at him again, gauging his face for a reaction, but for once she couldn’t read him. “I…” she bit her lower lip in thought, and looked back down. “I don’t want you to be trapped in this. You’re never obligated to continue, but…”
His hand, gloved in red and black, reached out to hers soothingly. “But?”
Emerald green eyes blinked at her from behind a spotted mask, and she found herself missing the vertical pupils that came from wearing the black cat miraculous. When had his eyes stopped looking alien and strange to her? When had they become a source of comfort?
“If you ever want to stop doing this, please… just let me say… goodbye,” she choked out over the massive rock that had just lodged itself in her throat. Hot tears fell from her eyes, over her mask. She hated crying in the mask.
He pulled her against him, she felt safe and warm in his arms. Her body responded by convulsing harder with wracking sobs. He rubbed her back soothingly, and rocked her back and forth.
“Oh bug, I’m so sorry,” he said softly, and then he kissed the crown of her head. “Of course I promise.”
“The last thing I said to you was out of anger,” she sobbed into his chest.
“Shhh… it’s okay. I’m right here. And I know you,” and she could hear the smile in his voice. “You were never going to let that be our last conversation. I’m apparently really bad at staying away even when I think it’s for the best.”
She stilled at his words, at the self deprecation in his tone. “Do you…?” she hesitated, carefully keeping her head down and not looking at his face. “Do you still... think it would be best for you to give up the miraculous?”
He didn’t say anything.
And suddenly, despite his arm around her shoulders, the night was freezing once again, overcast, dark, and grey.
“Chaton?” she prompted. She was terrified of what he might say, but she had to know. She had to know if she could rely on him.
His head dropped, his forehead rested against the top of her braid. “I don’t know,” he admitted. “In the moment that I renounced Plagg, I did it because I just didn’t see any path back for me. I just kept making mistake after mistake. I didn’t want to keep letting you down.”
“You didn’t let me down,” she objected automatically.
Her partner laughed, but there was no amusement here. It was not the bright, rich laugh that came from his belly that she coveted and cherished. This laugh was bitter and dark.
She huffed out a sigh. “Okay! Fine, you let me down, but not in some irreparable sense that you seem to be thinking.”
His arms tightened around her. “I almost killed you today,” he whispered so softly she almost didn’t hear him.
She sat up then, and traced the sides of his downturned face in both of her hands. She urged his gaze up to hers and waited until he was looking at her before speaking. “But you didn’t.” Her voice didn’t waiver.
His lower lip trembled and soon his whole body was quaking. She jerked him into her arms, and his head came to rest on her bony shoulder.
“I… I don’t know… w-what I would do… if I lost you,” he gasped out between sobs.
“You’re the one that was going to leave,” she couldn’t help but point out dryly.
His nose burrowed deeper into her shoulder. “Only because I am afraid that at some point I will screw up so badly, but instead of me… you’ll be the one to pay the price. I don’t want to be your partner if I am not the best one to protect you. You’re too important to me to let my ego or selfish tendencies get in the way.”
Her arms tightened around him.
He looked up at her then. His eyes were glassy and as green as new spring grass. “But then Tikki said some things that made me think about it differently. That maybe coming back was more important?”
He said it like it was a question. That he needed her confirmation more than anything.
“Kitty, I don’t know how to convince you. I know you won’t be perfect. I won’t be perfect either. I know our mistakes have very real consequences for more than just us. And I would definitely appreciate it in the future, if anything that affects our responsibility changes, you would tell me rather than pretend like everything was taken care of.”
He nodded in agreement.
“But you are it for me! I cannot do this with anyone else because you are the only person who was here with me through this whole crazy thing, the only person who has believed in me even before I believed in myself! You are the person that I trust the most. The only person that can really understand my life. That’s why today was so hard. I…” She broke off into tears.
She started sobbing uncontrollably, harder than either time before. Her throat was tight, and she felt like there was no air. She couldn’t talk, but she desperately needed him to hear these ones.
“I… thought I was… n-never going to see you again,” she choked out.
His hands traced her jaw as his thumbs brushed away her tears. “Do you want to know who I am?” he asked, his eyes serious.
She laughed hysterically through her tears. Of course she wanted to know; she had always wanted to know. But she was still scared. Plagg’s advice about being in her own kind of Guardian warred with every word of caution Master Fu and Tikki had ever given her. Because learning who he was wasn’t something they could take back.
She needed to think about this very carefully. But she wanted to just know. And she wanted to tell him.
“I’m serious,” he told her. “I will tell you right now. You don’t even have to reciprocate.”
She sucked in a breath, trying to calm her racing heart, and smiled brightly at him. She wanted to give into his offer with every fiber of his being. But even if she wasn’t scared to know anymore, it was still probably wise to give it careful consideration before rushing into anything.
“I know who you are,” she told him.
He started. “Y-you do? What gave me away?”
Her smile grew, and her fingertips traced the side of his face. “No, that’s not what I mean. I don’t know your identity. But I do know you. You’re my partner. And my best friend. The boy I trust more than anyone else on this planet. And the most important person in my life. I know your heart.” She placed her other hand on his chest. His heart was racing, too. “I know you.”
She leaned forward before she could think about it too much. He met her halfway.
His lips were chapped, and his breath tasted of mint. His fingers found a home in the small of her back while hers became tangled in his golden locks. Everything about their contact was warm, sweet, and soft.
She didn’t want the moment to end.
It was perfect.
So when he started to pull away, her hands held him in place. And she could feel him smile against her lips.
She finally pulled away with a gasp, and only because she had to breathe at some point, and she was rewarded with a dopey grin on his face with his masked eyes still slitted closed.
She watched him fondly for a few seconds, her giddy smile likely echoing his own. But when he didn’t move, and he didn’t open his eyes, she grew impatient.
“Chaton? You still there?” she teased lightly.
“Yes, m’lady!” he answered brightly. But his eyes remained stubbornly closed.
She poked him in the shoulder. “Why are your eyes still closed?”
He sighed happily. “Because I’m trying to memorize the best moment in my life so I can replay it later when I need it.”
She snorted. “I can’t believe I fell in love with such a dork.”
His green eyes snapped open. “You love me?” he breathed out as if he could scarcely believe it.
She curled her hands around his again. “Where the hell have you been?” she demanded. “Did Uncanny Valley not play you my message?”
“She did, but…”
“And you were here for that confession and kiss, right? You remember it? You weren’t under some akuma’s control or anything?”
He shook his head, even as his fingers tightened around hers. “No, but you didn’t say love,” he objected.
She turned towards him again. “Chaton, the boy I told you about, the one I told you I loved?”
He went rigid, his expression suddenly carefully neutral. “What about him?” he asked casually.
“He came on this trip with me,” she explained. “But today he left. I watched him drive away and it felt like he was leaving me. And it was hard. But it barely registered in comparison to the devastation I felt listening to your echoing footsteps fade away after you left your miraculous behind.”
His gaze dropped to their joined hands. “I’m sorry.”
She shook her head. “I’m not trying to make you feel more guilty. I just… that’s how I knew.”
She turned and kneeled before him, still not letting go of his hands. “I had to let go of both of you today,” she told him. “But you were the one where that did not feel possible. I don’t know when it happened, but somewhere along the lines you snuck into my heart, made it your own, and I don’t want you to leave.
“Because I love you,” she whispered.
His eyes turned glassy, but he was smiling. “I love you, too.”
She couldn’t stand to see him crying even if they were tears of joy. So she leaned forwards and kissed him again. And then again and again until she lost count and they were both giggling like children.
“What does this mean?” he asked her later, when they were giggled out, and her head rested against his shoulder once again.
She sighed. What she wouldn’t give to just be! Be here and now, and not have to worry about Paris or New York or decisions that she didn’t want to be the one to make! “I don’t know. I want us to be together, I think. But this is dangerous. But… Plagg said I needed to make my own rules.”
He started. “Plagg said what?”
She ignored his interjection. “And he was right! I… I’ve been trying to emulate Master Fu because he is the only example I have.”
“Plagg gave you advice…? Like useful advice?” Chat objected again.
She frowned up at him. “You’re getting distracted, kitty.”
“Sorry.” He rubbed the back of his neck with his free arm. “Go on.”
“I just worry that if Hawkmoth knows we’re in love, he’ll find a way to use it against us. Love makes us strong in so many ways, but it also makes us vulnerable.”
He threaded his fingers with hers. And she had never thought she would enjoy holding hands with someone as much as she did.
“Do you really think he couldn’t have already done that before when assuming we were just friends?”
She pursed her lips, considering. She supposed he had a point. She kept her identity a secret so that Hawkmoth couldn’t get at her through her family or friends. But Chat Noir had always been a friend she couldn’t hide.
“It’s just more pronounced, I think,” she concluded.
“Would you want to keep it a secret then?” he asked, his expression betraying nothing about how he felt about that idea. But she knew that was his way of being supportive by letting her take the lead.
“Keeping our vulnerabilities secret does offer some protection. That’s the way Master Fu did it. He always stayed in the shadows and was secretive and he was able to protect the kwamis and to stay hidden for almost two centuries!”
“But?” he prompted when she stopped.
And she smiled, pleased that he could read her so well. “But we’re on the front lines. We don’t have the luxury of staying in the shadows. It’s harder to build an impenetrable wall of secrets when you have to be out in public all the time fighting monsters. When you have to balance a double life without anyone noticing. When you struggle with so much, and can’t confide in anyone, or ask anyone for support…”
And suddenly, now that she was really thinking about it, she was angry. Livid that she had been put in this situation where she was almost alone in keeping an entire city safe, and told that she could share that with no one. How long would it be before she broke? How long before she was akumatized?
“Are you okay?” he asked softly.
She shook herself out of her thoughts. “Yeah, I just… I didn’t realize that I was so angry. Master Fu dumped a lot of responsibility on me without leaving any avenues of support,” and she immediately tensed realizing how her words can be misconstrued. Her eyes jerked upwards to his. “I didn’t mean you,” she told him.
He smiled. “No, I totally understand what you meant,” he assured immediately. And then his smile faded and his gaze turned distant.
“What is it?” she asked.
“Do you want to give up your miraculous?” He asked softly, clearly afraid of her answer.
She jerked back violently. “What?! No!! I can’t give it up!” Even she was startled at how visceral her reaction was. “No,” she said again, her tone more calm. “It’s hard, yes. And definitely unfair. But it would just as unfair to put this burden on someone else.”
“But do you want to be Ladybug?” he asked again, this time his green eyes were intense and insistent, rather than worried.
“I love being Ladybug,” she whispered back. “I love knowing that I have helped someone. I love being able to protect the people I care about. And well, even the challenge of figuring out how to defeat an akuma or interpret a lucky charm… It's empowering,” her voice grew louder the more she talked. “Just knowing that when the chips are down, I’m capable of thinking stuff out like that. Most people have to run when an akuma strikes, but not me. I have agency. I can do something. And I’m good at it!”
“Damn good at it!” he agreed with a huge smile.
She smirked. “And I suppose flying over the city by yoyo is pretty cool too,” she tacked on.
“I had to ask,” he told her. “I want you to know you have an out, too.”
“Thank you kitty. I appreciate that.”
“So if you’re committed to sticking it out, what do you want to do differently than Master Fu as the new Guardian?” he asked. “And whatever you decide, know that I will always support you.”
Her eyes locked onto his. “I want to trust. I want to trust you completely. Maybe others too, but I want to start with you. I don’t want there to be secrets between us.”
She felt him freeze underneath her.
“So… does that mean…” he fidgeted nervously. “Tell me if I’m jumping the gun again, but may I tell you my name?”
The question hit her like a lightning bolt, sending both her heart racing and her gut fluttering. Even though he had mentioned it earlier, this time felt different. Now, she felt ready. But she was still nervous. But not in the way that she used to be. She wasn’t worried for her friends and family because this was Chat! Her partner. He would give his life for her, she already knew. The idea even brought a sense of relief.
No, the butterflies in her stomach were more a giddy nervousness. She tried to calm herself by breathing deeply. Knowing his name wouldn’t change how she felt about him. And she had to believe that his knowing hers wouldn’t change the way he felt either.
“Only if you want to,” she said. God, she wanted him to tell her so bad, but she didn’t feel she had the right to demand anything after she had already put him off so many times.
He grinned. “I’ve always wanted to. It works out for you, too, in this case because you’ll always be able to track me down when you need to yell at me for something without having to send a third party or worry that it will be our last conversation.”
She laughed. “You sure you don’t want to wait like two weeks when we’re not so emotionally raw? When our heads are on straight?” It was the more pragmatic choice. There was no rush. They didn’t really have to burn through all the secrets between them in one evening.
He barked out a laugh of his own. “Two weeks for you to come up with a million and three reasons about how bad of an idea it is?” He shook his head, even as he chuckled. “No, I don’t really want to wait for that.”
“I’m not that bad!” she objected.
“Oh, yes, you are,” he grinned, darting in with a quick kiss to her nose, which she scrunched up in response. “It’s one of the many things I love about you.”
“Yeah, well! You’re so impulsive!” she countered, even as she grinned.
“And you love me anyway,” he countered, cheekily.
Heat flooded her neck and face; even her ears felt hot in the cold air. “Yeah, yeah, I do.”
“I love you, too.” His voice was so soft, like velvet, and his eyes were even softer. Love poured from them. It was so intense it was hard to maintain eye contact. She had never felt more exposed or vulnerable. He had all of her heart. He had stolen it.
But he didn’t say anything more, and it was driving her mad.
“So…” she prompted, “What’s your name?”
He started, and then grinned again. “R-right!” He cleared his throat dramatically. “Adrien.”
She reeled backwards as if burned. “W-what?!” she exclaimed. She thought she had been prepared for anything! She thought his name wouldn’t change anything.
She had been wrong.
“My name… it’s Adrien,” he repeated.
Her eyes were bugged out of her head, and her jaw was on the balcony floor. But she didn’t know what to say. It couldn’t be him, could it? That would be too simple. And too unfair all at once! The universe was clearly laughing at her. It had been laughing at her for years!
He frowned. “Is that bad?”
She could hear the tremor in his voice. God, he was freaking out. She had to fix that.
“N-no…?” she stammered. Crap! She was stammering. He was totally going to see straight through her.
Would that be so bad?
“Just… unexpected,” she said lamely.
“Were you expecting a Louis, or an Antoine?” he asked jokingly, clearly trying to bury his vulnerability in silliness, but she could see through him. He was terrified. “What name did you give me in your head?”
“Chaton,” she whispered, squeezing his head, managing to look right into his anxious eyes.
His whole form relaxed and his jokester face melted into the softest smile at her admission. And oh god, it was totally him. How had she never seen it before? She was such an idiot.
“Okay seriously,” he laughed. “What is wrong with the name Adrien?”
“Nothing!” she insisted.
He kissed the knuckles of each of her gloved hands. “Then why are you freaking out?”
So many panicked thoughts swirled through her brain just like it always did when she was trying to talk to Adrien. But this wasn’t just Adrien anymore, she reminded herself. This was her partner, her best friend, her love, and her Chaton. She had just said she wanted no more secrets between them not five minutes prior.
She took a deep breath and prayed for courage. “Adrien might be the name of the boy I had a crush on,” she admitted. Somehow, it was easier to be indirect about it even though she already knew that it was him.
“What were the chances that I have the same name as…?” And then his whole body stilled and his eyes widened. “Unless… No! I cannot be that lucky,” he mumbled more to himself than her. “But… you said…” His eyes searched hers. “You said… your crush walked away from you today. If that was me…”
And suddenly his eyes watered and he was crying again. Only this time, she had no idea what was wrong.
He couldn’t be that disappointed it was her, could he? The possibility had never occurred to her.
“Chaton? What’s wrong?”
He yanked her to him, his arms wrapped around her petite frame from both sides and he cried onto her shoulder.
“Marinette, I’m so sorry!” he sobbed.
And she shivered at her name on his lips, laden with such emotion. She felt her panic begin to fade. He definitely wasn’t disappointed.
“For?” she asked.
“I walked away from you twice today.”
And with those words the last of her fear faded away. She rubbed circles on his back. She hoped he found them soothing.
“Chaton, it’s okay,” she reassured, feeling remarkably free herself. She had managed to confess to both of the boys she loved in one go!  And she was feeling much better about this whole Guardian business just as a bonus. “This makes things surprisingly simple,” she said, framing both sides of his face in her gloved hands.
He shook his head and nuzzled his cheek into one of her hands. “I don’t deserve you,” he croaked out.
She shook her head. “I think you deserve the world, Chaton. That’s why I fought so hard for you to be able to come on this trip. I just didn’t realize you were also the person that I needed to stay behind.”
He laughed through his tears. “You’re so amazing, Buginette. I have thought so this whole trip. Until I screwed up royally, I was thinking about asking you out when we got back to Paris. Marinette you, I mean.”
“R-really?!” she squeaked.
“Really!”
“What changed?” She asked. “If I recall, Chat Noir already rejected Marinette.”
“I don’t know that anything did. It’s like you said… I think you snuck in a long time ago and I just didn’t realize it because I was so focused on Ladybug.”
“Ladybug is pretty great, I guess,” she grudgingly admitted.
“Ladybug is definitely amazing! I’ve looked up to her for a long time, but Marinette… she is so much more because she fights for justice without the benefit of a mask. She always stands up when it matters. She goes out of her way to include everyone, she gives people second chances. She gave me a second chance.”
Her eyes watered with his sweet, sweet words.
“She was the first friend I really made on my own, and I think it’s one of the best things I have ever done, and I save Paris on a weekly basis!”
A laugh tore through her tears, and he smiled back.
She tilted her head up and kissed him, trying to convey how much his words meant to her. Because she could not put it into words.
“I love you,” he finished when they pulled away.
She grinned even though she was still crying. “I love you!”
She studied his face, his eyes sparkled and his mouth couldn’t stop smiling. Happiness suited him. She realized that she had never seen her partner completely one hundred percent joyful. She had never understood before that half his jokes and tendency to want to play around was one part outlet and another part defense mechanism, but now, he made so much more sense to her. And she loved him more.
She hadn’t realized that was possible.
“It makes sense now,” she confided.
“What does?”
“Your attitude and personality as Chat Noir. You barely ever are allowed anything, so of course you go a little overboard when the opportunity presents itself. Ladybug has always primarily been a duty for me. Chat Noir is freedom for you. And well, if my miraculous was the only way I got to be free, I wouldn’t listen to my kwami either.”
He laughed. “Plagg actively encourages my rebellious moments,” he said, his eyes still gleaming.
“Really?!” she scoffed. “No fair! Why did you get the fun kwami?”
“He’s not that fun,” Adrien immediately disagreed. “Quite annoying really. He goes through so much expensive cheese you wouldn’t believe it. Nathalie still asks me questions about how much cheese I buy. And he makes a point of leaving cheese crumbs everywhere, which makes everything smell weird.”
She ate up every word like a child on Christmas morning. It was so mundane, but they got to do this now! They got to share every bit of how their civilian and hero lives clashed.
“But he’s definitely the nice one,” her partner concluded.
“What?!” she screeched in mock outrage. “Blasphemy! Tikki is the sweetest!”
He grinned. “She is definitely the mean one.”
“Whatever! I guess you should give her back to me then, since you clearly don’t appreciate her!” she bantered back.
She hadn’t expected the immediate flash of pink light.
Tikki materialized a split second later, but Marinette spared no attention to her constant companion. She was looking at her unmasked partner. He stood before her, unfairly tall. His blond unstyled hair looked more like Chat’s than Adrien’s and she loved it. His cheeks were slightly pink, but his eyes…. It was like she had never seen them before, which was ridiculous because he was Adrien. She had seen them thousands of times before. But she had never seen them knowing he was her partner. They were emerald-green, and they were shining with complete trust and love, and she was lost in their depths.
She traced the curve of his jawline with a gloved hand, but her eyes never left his even when she started tearing up all over again.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered.
His golden eyebrows furrowed in genuine confusion. “For?”
“For making you wait so long for this moment,” she confessed. She was so mad at herself for costing them so much time when they could have been supporting each other completely in both parts of their lives.
He smiled. And she could see her kitty in his face and it was amazing!
He turned his head into the hand on his face and kissed her palm. “You had to be ready. I know I was less patient on some days, but I’m glad that we waited until we both were ready.”
Maybe he was right. It was better this way because if it had happened sooner she might have combusted realizing it was Adrien and been unable to talk to him. Or she might have been angry if he had shared before she thought it was okay. And this… this was better.
She dissolved her own transformation in a flash of green. Plagg was there immediately, glanced between them in their civilian forms, and he smirked.
“Oh thank god!” he exclaimed. That was as far as he got before Tikki swooped in, and wrestled him out of sight.
Adrien carefully took out his earrings, and they reverted to their red and black form in his hands. He held them up, gesturing to the side of her head. “May I?” he asked.
A blush bloomed across her face at the question. She nodded, not trusting herself to form words.
His bare hands gently pushed a few errant strands of her hair behind her ear, before he carefully slipped one earring into her right ear. “Thank you for making me come back and thank you for trusting me with… yourself and everything else.”
He moved to the other side of her head and slipped in the second earring just as gently. “I promise to do everything I can to live up to your trust in me.”
Then he kissed her forehead before pulling slightly away, but she captured his hand before he could escape entirely.
She caressed each finger one by one, and then took off his miraculous, which was a rose gold on her hand, but instantly turned black when it was free of her finger. She watched in fascination as it turned silver when she placed it on his finger.
“I want to thank you for always supporting me, for being patient,” she started.
“Mostly patient,” he interjected, his voice light with teasing. She pushed a finger to his lips.
“Hush! It’s your turn to listen.
He nodded, his eyes sparkling with mischief. It was such a Chat expression on Adrien’s face. And that made her smile.
“I want to thank you,” she began again. “For always being there when no one else was, for picking me up in my lowest moments, for giving me advice, for being a bright spot in the darkness.”
“Can I get a do over?” He asked, his voice cracking.
“Nope!” She snapped back playfully. She had loved what he had said. “And I promise to be transparent with you as the Guardian the way Fu never was.”
She kissed his hand. Then he pulled her up and his lips met hers again. He was so warm. And he was sending tingles down to her toes.
Would she ever get used to his kisses?
She hoped not.
He pulled away just slightly and her vision was filled with his green eyes. “It feels like we just got married,” he told her.
Heat rushed from her cheeks to the tips of her ears. “I don’t think I’m ready for that. But… maybe someday?” she suggested with a shy smile.
He grinned back. “I look forward to that day.”
She did, too.

2, 4, 6, 13 for jessie beloved 💞
thank you lesya my beloved!!! sorry for the delay but you know how i be 🥲
Tumblr media
2. Who is your best friend?  Tell us about them!
"Only the most gorgeous lady in Hope County, Ms. Tracey Lader! We could be more than friends, if she just says the word. Either way, sure as hell not gonna desert her to hang out with some freakshow cult. I know when I have a good thing going, unlike some people.
But seriously, I know Tracey has a reputation for being a little prickly at first, but she's one of the sweetest, most patient people I've met since I've been here. She puts up with me, she's understanding and doesn't judge when I tell her I've done something, uh... less than brilliant.
Alright, sometimes she judges a little, but only when I deserve it. That girl probably knows more about me than anyone. I'm lucky to have her."
4. What is your least favorite childhood memory?
"Hmm, alright, so. I'm ten years old, goin' over to my pal Kaitlyn's for a sleepover. Now, I'm nervous as shit, 'cause Kaitlyn's house isn't just any regular ol' house, her folks have money. Huge house on this huuuuuuge sprawling farm. And also because I had a huge crush on Kaitlyn, but I wasn't entirely, uh, cognizant of that yet.
But anyways, we were off explorin' the place — which like I said, was huge, especially to a kid — ridin' round on four wheelers, having a blast, and we come up on their chickens. And her family has 'em in this huge chicken coop with a big ol' free range area. I mean bigger than some people's backyard.
We stop off and she's gonna let me feed the chickens, 'cause I've never done it before, so I got a hand full of chicken feed. When don't you know it her shitass older brother and his friend are up there, sitting on top of the coop, and start throwing rocks at us, big ones, shits that hurt. So Kaitlyn starts crying, I'm pissed off, I climb my way up there to give 'em hell. Knock the first one off, feeling pretty good about that, feel like I'm looking pretty cool. Start to go for the second one, he runs off — but trips me on the way, I fall back... break right through the chicken wire and land in their little playpen. Smack dab in the middle of a huge pile of chicken shit.
And that's bad enough, right? But mind you, I still have a fistful of chicken feed, which I remember bout the time I feel something peck right between my eyes. Then my neck. And damn near every wear else on me. Had to have been at least ten of them suckers pecking the shit out of me. Still have a scar from it, right here on my wrist. Anyways, I tear down near half the chicken coop getting out, they all go running to their freedom, which is too bad, 'cause if I ever wanted to cook and eat a family of chickens...
Needless to say, I was not invited back to anymore sleepovers at Kaitlyn's. Worst part though? Her brother kept calling me 'chickenshit' everytime he saw me at school. Which is fucked, 'cause he was the one running away. Little bastard."
6. What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever had to do?
"Oof, well... It's been a pretty cushy ride for the most part, kinda coasted through life. I'd say the hardest thing would probably be getting through the police academy. Now, the book learning part wasn't exactly challenging, but it was fucking boring. And I thought I was in pretty good shape but... really worked my ass off physically. More than I had to, according the instructors, but... Never too careful, don't wanna be one of those assholes that just knows how to fire a gun and nothing else.
But most of all, it was hard 'cause it was full of a lot of those assholes. And lots of other kinds of assholes. Assholes everywhere. Not in a good way."
13. You’re given an unlimited budget to build anything you want!  What do you build and where do you build it?
Answered here!

Lady Noir/Adrienette: Save Yourself (I’ll Help You): Chapter Two
Read it on AO3: Save Yourself (I’ll Help You): Chapter Two: Self-Help
At some point three years prior, before Adrien became cognizant of his crush on Marinette, he had surreptitiously begun to pay close attention to her. These years of reconnaissance allowed him to quickly pick up on the fact that something was up with his charming friend that Monday at school.
She was fidgety and distracted, obviously preoccupied by something.
Alya and some of the other girls noted her particularly odd behavior, but, when asked what was wrong, Marinette politely waved away their concerns and made excuses.
Adrien let it go that first day. He knew she had a lot on her plate with all of her extracurricular responsibilities. Marinette was rivaled only by Ladybug in her jam-packed schedule and need of multitasking.
When she was noticeably agitated the second day in a row, Adrien caught her as they were packing up to move classrooms, resting a hand on her forearm and giving her a confidence-inspiring smile.
“Hey. You’ve seemed really stressed out the past two days. If there’s anything I can do to help, let me know. Even if you just need to vent, I’m here for you, okay?”
She blinked, blushed, and looked away, smiling weakly. “Thanks, Adrien. I really appreciate the offer. I’m okay, though.”
His own smile faltered slightly because she obviously was not okay, but…if she didn’t want to confide in him, it wasn’t like he could force her.
He nodded, turned up the wattage on his grin, and removed his hand from her forearm. “Well…let me know if you ever change your mind.”
She nodded, returned the smile with one even more fake than his own, and quickly finished packing her books, hurrying out the door as fast as she could without appearing to be fleeing.
On the third day of watching the woman he loved in obvious distress, Adrien could no longer stand by and do nothing.
He packed up quickly and waited for her outside the locker room after school, and when she came out with Alya, he flagged her down, asking if she were headed home.
“May I walk you there?” he inquired, shooting Alya a quick, meaningful look.
Alya promptly remembered that she’d forgotten a notebook she needed back in her locker, literally pushing Marinette towards Adrien as she beat a hasty retreat.
Quick of reflexes, Adrien deftly stopped Marinette’s fall and helped her get steady on her feet.
“I’m going to kill Alya,” she seethed, straightening her jarred purse and backpack as they nearly slipped off her shoulders.
“Forgive her,” Adrien chuckled. “She and Nino have this scheme about setting us up with each other so that the four of us can double date. Goodness knows I need all the help I can get to make you fall for me. Alya is doing God’s work.”
Marinette rolled her eyes, glaring petulantly at her friend’s retreating back as Alya disappeared into the locker room. “Goodness also knows that I don’t need help falling flat on my face, so I think I can do without Alya shoving me.”
“Fair,” Adrien allowed, holding out a hand. “May I carry something?”
Marinette shook her head, hugging her sketchpad closer to her chest reflexively. “No, thanks. I’ve got it,” she assured, starting to head for home.
In the back of her mind, she worried about coming off as rude, but the last thing she needed was for Adrien to carry her books and somehow see the endless doodles she’d been doing of Chat Noir all week as she fretted ceaselessly about him.
Slightly dejected, Adrien slipped his hands into his pockets and followed after her, regretting her brisk pace, fearing it wouldn’t give them much time to talk.
“So…” He cleared his throat as they made their way down the school steps.
She looked back at him and nearly tripped to her death.
Luckily, he caught her by the arms, keeping her from nosediving into the concrete.
Unfortunately, her books and notebooks went flying as she flailed in the seconds before he steadied her.
Once he was sure she wasn’t going to fall, Adrien bent down to gather up her things, only to be stopped as she gasped, “Don’t look!” and rushed to retrieve them herself.
“Sorry,” she added when she came to her senses. “Just…private stuff. I don’t…” She paused to take a deep breath and blow it out slowly. “Sorry I’m being such a spazz today. I have a lot on my mind.”
“Is it anything I could help with?” he offered, holding out a hand to assist her back to her feet.
She shook her head, getting up on her own. “I’ll be fine. Thank you, though.”
He bit the inside of his cheek, debating whether or not to let it go.
“…I’m really worried about you,” he confessed after a moment, unable to hold it in.
She stopped mid-step, turning to face him with a puzzled expression. “…You are?”
“Yeah,” he replied in a hushed tone. “Seriously worried. You’ve been really off all week. I’m not trying to force you to talk to me if you don’t feel comfortable doing so, but…I just want you to be okay, and I don’t think you are, and I’m feeling kind of helpless, so…”
He almost felt bad for forcing her hand, but it was getting to the point where he was worried about Marinette getting akumatized, and that was no good for anyone because how was he supposed to fight against the girl he adored if worst came to worst?
He couldn’t…so he crossed his fingers and hoped he’d be forgiven for being slightly manipulative.
“I’m concerned about getting akumatized over worrying about you,” he told her with a grimace.
Her eyes flew wide in alarm before fluttering rapidly in a series of astonished blinks.
“And, if that happens, I’m scared my akumatized self will come after you because you’re technically the source of my negative emotions, and then you’ll be caught up in things,” he elaborated, “and I really don’t want that. The last thing I want to do is add to your stress, so…”
He worried his bottom lip between his teeth and gave her a pleading look. “Sorry, but…isn’t there anything I can do to help? I’m not asking you to talk to me about your problems, but if there were some way I could feel like I wasn’t so powerless to help you…”
He watched as her surprise crumpled up like a note passed during class into a troubled, thoughtful expression.
“…Sorry for being such a pain. I don’t want to cause problems,” he added earnestly, dropping the act and retreating one step at a time. “Sorry. Forget I said anything, but if you do want to talk, know that I’m always here for you.”
He turned to go, but she caught him, fingers wrapping around his forearm, gripping, holding him in place.
“…Wait,” she called softly, a weary resignation in her voice.
He arched an eyebrow questioningly and waited for her to continue.
She sighed and tipped her head, motioning for him to come with her. “Walk with me a bit?”
“Sure,” he easily agreed and followed as she led him across the street and then past her house to the park next door.
They completed one lap around the square, Marinette deep in thought the whole time. Then, she went and took a seat on one of the park benches, and he sat beside her, waiting patiently for her to give some kind of cue.
She inhaled deeply and, gazing down intently at her shoes all the while, finally spoke. “So…there’s this guy.”
Adrien stiffened, his heart screeching to a halt as his mind called up helpful memories of all the times Ladybug had told him about her mystery boy.
Why was there always some other guy? Adrien wondered bitterly but then mentally slapped himself because of course there were guys in the lives of smart, talented, beautiful women like Marinette and Ladybug.
“A friend,” Marinette clarified. “A really close friend, and I’m worried sick about him,” she sighed heavily, shaking her head, at a loss as to what to do.
Adrien relaxed slightly at the friendship label but didn’t let his guard down as she continued.
“He’s having some trouble with mental health and his family relationships, and I think he’s really depressed.” She looked up from her feet to meet Adrien’s gaze, and it hurt his heart to see the glistening tears blurring her vision. “I’m scared, Adrien, and I feel really useless because there’s nothing I can do to help him.
“It’s complicated,” she explained softly, looking away as if it would hide her guilt as shame turned her cheeks pink. “I can’t be there for him the way a friend should, so…I guess I’m feeling for him what you’re feeling for me. I’ve been agonizing over this since Saturday night, and I don’t know what to do. I know that there’s nothing to do. I just wish I could make it all okay for him.”
She lifted her head once more as she vehemently informed, “Adrien, he’s one of the sweetest, best people I know, and he deserves better than what he’s stuck with. I wish there was something I could do so that he wouldn’t have to struggle so much. He shouldn’t have to.”
Adrien nodded, tentatively reaching out to place a comforting hand on her shoulder. “You’re such a good friend, Marinette. I wish someone would worry about me like that,” he chuckled, but the manufactured mirth didn’t quite make it into his voice. “He’s really lucky. It sounds like you care about your friend a lot.”
She smiled wretchedly, giving a sad little nod as she admitted, “I love him.”
It felt like getting hit with an icy blast of winter air or walking outside without a coat, shocking his system.
His hand froze on her arm.
It took a minute for him to form words, and, when he did, they came out stilted and awkward, betraying his distraction. “Oh. Wow. Uh… That’s… He’s really lucky.”
Marinette tipped her head to the side, frowning in concern. “Is everything all right, Adrien?”
“Sorry.” He forced a smile, cheeks stinging as he blushed. “Ignore me. I was just a little surprised because I think this is the first I’ve heard about you having your eye on someone. I mean, it’s only natural that you would, but…”
His hand went up reflexively to rub at the back of his neck, and he shook his head, trying to clear away his muddled thoughts. He was supposed to be helping her feel better, not having a pity party for himself.
“Sorry,” he repeated softly, sheepishly. “I’m just kind of flustered…and more than a little bit jealous,” he added honestly.
Marinette’s mouth dropped open, and she leaned in to stare at him in shock. “W-Wait. What? Like…what?”
“I thought I was pretty obvious,” Adrien laughed openly at himself, hoping to keep the atmosphere light so that she wouldn’t see his heart breaking. “You really didn’t know I have feelings for you?”
Slowly, she began to shake her head from side to side, speechless in her astonishment as she tried to determine whether or not she was dreaming this entire scenario up.
“Marinette,” he chuckled more genuinely, his voice warm and affectionate. “You’re amazing. Any guy who didn’t fall in love with you would have to be a total idiot.”
She gripped the bench seat to keep herself from tipping over and falling flat in the dirt.
Her head was spinning. How could this be happening? Adrien loved her?
Impossible.
And yet…he was looking at her with such a fond, soft expression in his eyes. It was just like the looks Chat Noir often gave Ladybug, so… Maybe it was real.
Her lips parted to respond, to confess her own feelings, but Adrien cut her off.
His eyes widened in alarm, and he gave a start, jolting back and putting up his hands in defence. “…Oh, but, I mean, I totally support you! With this guy. If he’s the one you love…. I support you,” he rushed to assure.
Marinette blinked, mentally reeling from the whiplash.
Did he love her or not? She wasn’t entirely sure now, if he weren’t willing to fight for her. His affections couldn’t be that strong if he was okay with giving up so easily.
“More than anything, I’m your friend, so I don’t want my feelings for you to get in the way of that or make things weird between us,” he explained, desperate for her to understand. “So, if you have to pretend that I never said anything, that’s totally fine. I support you. Whatever makes you happy is the most important thing.”
She had to pause to consider before responding. Her thoughts were so twisted up like a ball of writhing serpents battling to consume one another.
“Thank you, Adrien. That’s so sweet, and it’s seriously not a problem,” she promised, reaching out and placing a hand on his forearm. “We’re fine. Everything’s fine…. Honestly, there’s nothing for you to support. Things aren’t going to work between me and my friend, so…thank you, but nothing’s going to happen between us.”
Adrien’s eyebrows gradually pulled together into a V of concern. “Is it…because of his mental health situation?”
Marinette recoiled, staring at him in stupefaction. “What? No! No, of course not! Nothing like that. He’s amazing, and I’d be more than willing to stay by his side and support him through his struggles. He’s worth putting in the hard work for.”
Adrien’s stomach stopped clenching, and a faint hope welled up in his chest. If things weren’t going to work out between Marinette and this other guy, maybe Adrien still had a chance. Maybe she could see past Adrien’s struggles and still care for him too.
“So…what exactly is the problem, if you don’t mind me asking?” he pressed gently, chewing nervously at the inside of his lip.
She looked away, frowning down at her knees. “It’s…complicated.”
Adrien arched an eyebrow. “Is he gay?”
It was the only reason Adrien could come up with why a guy wouldn’t want to overcome all obstacles to be with Marinette.
Marinette chuckled softly, shaking her head. “No. He’s bi, so…”
She looked back up at him, scrutinizing his face, evaluating his trustworthiness. “…I’m going to tell you a secret.”
He scooted in closer, nodding that he was ready. “I won’t tell a soul.”
She glanced around, scanning the area to make sure they wouldn’t be overheard before she lowered her voice, whispering, “It’s Chat Noir.”
Adrien blinked slowly, uncomprehendingly. The words meant nothing to him.
Seeing his confusion, Marinette elaborated, her cheeks turning cherry blossom pink as she confessed, “My friend, the guy I’m in love with…it’s Chat Noir.”
Adrien’s brain crashed, and it took him a good ten seconds to reboot.
His initial inclination was to laugh hysterically because finally his love was requited, and he couldn’t have asked for a better romantic partner than Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
His mind next trotted off to construct a detailed plan of all the ways he was going to make her happy and spoil her rotten.
It then occurred to him that he needed to tell her his identity, but then he decided to table that idea because Ladybug would be furious, and he wasn’t sure how Marinette would react.
He also wasn’t so sure that this was the best time to reveal his identity because Marinette was convinced that things wouldn’t work between them. She was also currently upset…because of him.
“You’ve been worried all week because of Chat Noir?” Adrien breathed as his brain came back online.
She nodded meekly. “I…Yes. He’s having a rough time, and I’m worried that there’s nothing I can do to help him. I’m not doing a very good job as his friend.”
Adrien rolled his eyes, wrapping his arms around Marinette and pulling her into a fierce hug.
“You’re doing amazing,” he whispered into her hair, wishing he could express how much it meant to him, knowing that her skylight door was always open when he needed a safe space to escape from his life.
He may not have confided in her before about how bad things were because he was afraid of burdening her and scaring her away, but all the times when she’d allowed him to hang out on her balcony or in her room, all the times she and her parents had strong-armed him into making dinner and eating with them once they’d found out he ate alone most meals, all the times she’d saved pastries for him and Plagg…
Chat Noir might not have let Marinette see how dark it was inside of his mind, but she’d always been there to help right when he needed her. She’d gotten him through many tough times, even if she’d never known it.
He pulled back to look her intently in the eyes. “Marinette, I’ve seen you two together before, and Chat Noir is crazy about you. Trust me. I can tell. If you love him and he loves you, why can’t you two be together?”
“Adrien, he’s a superhero,” Marinette snorted, rolling her eyes as if the problem were obvious.
“So?” he scoffed right back. “You don’t think you’re good enough for a superhero or something? Marinette, Chat Noir is the one not good enough for you. Stop being humble and date him already.”
“I’m not being humble,” she returned saucily. “I’m being practical. I can’t date a guy whose identity I don’t know.”
“Then let him reveal his identity to you,” Adrien suggested matter-of-factly. “You’re making this more complicated than it needs to be.”
“I am not,” she protested, crossing her arms indignantly. “It’s too dangerous for me to know his identity.”
“How so?” he argued. “All you have to do is just not tell anyone that you know. Don’t get caught kissing Chat Noir, and no one will be the wiser. No one’s going to think twice if you start dating his civilian self.”
She pursed her lips, trying not to see his point. “What if I get caught up in an akuma attack and get brainwashed into revealing his secrets?”
“Chat Noir has been mind-controlled countless times, and he hasn’t given away his secret identity yet,” Adrien continued to stack solid argument on top of solid argument. “If you don’t tell anyone you know who Chat Noir is, Papillon won’t know to come after you. You’re perfectly safe so long as you keep your mouth shut. I think you can manage that, Marinette.”
“What if there’s a truth-telling akuma?” she tried in one last-ditch attempt.
He frowned at her in mildly annoyed disappointment. “Has there ever been a truth-telling akuma? In the past three and a half years?”
She averted her gaze, her lip pushing forward into a pout.
“No. No, there has not,” he answered his own question triumphantly. “See? I’m not going to say it’s perfectly safe for him to reveal himself to you, but the risk is small enough that I feel comfortable with you taking it. Don’t you think he would be worth it?”
“Of course he would be worth it,” she replied in a small, tired whisper. “It’s just…it’s complicated, Adrien.”
“It’s really not as complicated as you’re making it,” he sighed, gently cupping her cheek and tipping her head up to make her look at him. “Marinette, you’re a wonderful person, and you deserve happiness and love. Why won’t you let yourself have this?”
Her lips slowly moved into a self-deprecating smile, and she shook her head sadly. “I’m afraid that I really am a masochist who doesn’t allow herself to have nice things.”
It was like a foggy pane of glass shattered between them at her words, and Adrien flashed back to Ladybug sitting on the roof of Sainte Chapelle saying the same thing Saturday night.
He couldn’t breathe.
“What…did you say?” he choked as the pieces slid together: Ladybug’s insistence that Chat go to Marinette when Ladybug couldn’t be there for him herself. Marinette’s claims that things were complicated between herself and Chat Noir.
She shook her head again. “Nothing. It’s nothing.”
His Lady, his Princess…the same person? Could he be so lucky?
Her brow pinched into a frown as she registered his expression. “Why are you grinning like that?”
“Because I love you,” he chuckled giddily, rendering her utterly speechless.
She found that she literally couldn’t remember how to make her mouth, brain, and vocal cords work in concert to form any kind of reply, so she just sat there, parting and closing her lips like a drowning fish.
“Hey,” he called softly, slipping his hand into hers. “I really need to talk to you. It’s important,” he emphasized. “Could we please head to your house so we can talk undisturbed?”
She tried to speak, but it came out sounding like a collection of gibberish syllables, so, instead, she nodded and got to her feet, leading him back to her house and up the stairs to her room.
He had to let go of her hand in order to file up the narrow staircase, and, by the time they reached the attic, Marinette’s brain was once again semi-functional.
She took a seat on her chaise longue and motioned for him to sit anywhere he liked, urging, “Make yourself comfortable.”
“I’m good standing, thanks,” he assured. “I’m actually feeling kind of jittery, so…do you mind if I pace?”
“Uh…go right ahead,” she encouraged, watching as he did indeed start to walk back and forth across her carpet. “…You said that you needed to talk to me?”
He took a deep breath and let it out as a sigh, “Yeah. Yeah. I did. I do. I…”
He bit his lip, rubbing at the back of his neck as he tried to get his harried thoughts in order. “I’m not sure you want to know, but I feel like I have to tell you. You’re not going to be happy, but this isn’t something I can keep from you.”
He stopped and turned to face her. “Honestly, I’ve kind of been in a dark place lately, Marinette.”
Her eyes rounded, pupils dilating in fear for yet another one of the most precious boys in her life going through a hard time.
“I’ve been feeling pretty down,” he confessed. “I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to bother anyone or make them worry.”
“Adrien, we’re your friends,” she scolded, fighting back a whirlwind of emotions.
Hurt that he hadn’t trusted her, frustration that he thought so little of himself and how much he meant to them.
“Worrying about one another and supporting each other is what friends do,” she stressed, hands going to her hips. “When you need help or just someone to listen to you vent, you come to us. We will always be there for you.”
His lips quirked into a sheepish smile. “I’m sorry. I know. I just…have self-esteem issues. But I’m coming to you now, so…better late than never?”
Her expression softened, and she pushed herself up, going to him and wrapping him in a loose hug. “Oh, Adrien…you idiot.”
He rested his head against hers, muttering, “I was also afraid to talk to you about it because I was worried about ruining my chances with you. I know I wouldn’t want to deal with me and all of my insecurities and hang-ups. I couldn’t imagine someone as epic as you picking someone like me when you could do so much better.”
“Adrien,” she cooed, pulling back to meet his gaze with an abundance of sympathy and affection. “Don’t…say things like that. There are so many amazing things about you.”
“That’s what Plagg said too,” he chuckled softly.
She blinked, her brain not registering. “Plagg?”
He nodded. “Saturday…I told Ladybug about how lost and alone I’d been feeling, and she told me to come talk to you…so here I am.”
Marinette’s jaw dropped as she struggled to make sense of what she was hearing.
Saturday night, Ladybug had talked to Chat Noir, not Adrien, so…
Her lungs seized, cutting off her breath.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered like a chastened child waiting to be struck. “I know you didn’t want to reveal identities and that’s why you sent me to Marinette instead of trying to help as Ladybug, but…I think the cat’s out of the bag, My Lady.”
To her credit, Marinette did not faint. She would have liked to because, if she were unconscious, she wouldn’t have to deal with reality right away, but she remained in full control of her faculties and, thus, had to attend to the matter at hand in real time.
“I need to sit down,” she announced, heading back over to the chaise to compose herself.
Adrien followed nervously, taking a seat beside her without infringing upon her personal space. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean for this to happen.”
She waved away his words, shaking her head. “No. No. It’s fine. I…This is my fault. I knew you could potentially figure out my identity every time I had Chat Noir over to watch movies or play video games. I knew I was taking a risk.”
She turned to look him in the eye. “If I had the chance to do it all over, I wouldn’t change anything.”
“Oh,” he whispered, dazed as she leaned in and pressed her lips to his cheek, smiling softly.
“I don’t regret anything except not being able to be there for you more,” she added, making his heart swell. “But now we have to sit down and figure out what to do about this catastrophe now that we’re here.”
He arched an eyebrow, echoing, “Catastrophe?”
She nodded. “I mean…you know my identity. We’re in grave danger, Chaton.”
Deep furrows gradually dug their way across his brow. “Are we actually, though?”
She blinked, taken aback.
“Is this really the end-of-the-world scenario you think it is?” he pressed. “Like what I was saying earlier, if we don’t advertise that we know, why should Papillon target Marinette and Adrien more than any other Parisian?”
Marinette opened her mouth to argue her point but then closed it again when she realized that she didn’t have any good rebuttals to make.
“That’s why I’m always so careful when I come over here as Chat Noir. I don’t let myself get spotted coming and going so that I don’t tip anyone off to the fact that you’re important to me and could be used against me,” he explained, scooting in a little closer on the chaise. “If no one knows we know, how are we in danger?”
She pursed her lips and thought hard, trying to come up with a way to refute his logic. “…But what if there’s a truth-telling akuma?” she inquired weakly, knowing the feeble argument wouldn’t hold water.
He cupped her cheek in his hand and swore, “I would literally die before I betrayed you.”
Her heart cracked open at the very thought, and tears started to stream down her face.
“You die too much already,” she whispered, looping her arms around his neck. “I don’t want you to die…. I love you.”
He didn’t protest as she leaned in and pressed a butterfly’s wing beat of a kiss to his lips.
“Okay,” he chuckled, resting his forehead against hers. “No dying. We’ll figure something else out, but it’s going to be okay, Marinette. No matter what, we’ll get through this together.”
“Promise?” she hummed, a gentle smile lifting the corners of her lips.
“Promise,” he affirmed, inching forward to steal a more substantial kiss.
When they broke apart, there was a question in his eyes. “…Me being Adrien doesn’t change the way you feel about me, does it? You said you loved Chat Noir, but…”
A scarlet flare lit up her cheeks and spread across the bridge of her nose as she finally confessed, “You know the mystery boy I’ve been pining after since we were thirteen?”
He quirked an eyebrow. “Yeeeees?”
“His name is Adrien Agreste,” she giggled.
He burst out laughing. “You have horrible taste in men.”
She slapped him playfully on the arm. “You have horrible self-esteem. That’s the real problem here. I only fall for the sweetest, kindest, most thoughtful guys. I have impeccable taste.”
“…You really think so?” he sought to verify, amazed that such a thing could be true, that such a woman could want him.
She nodded, gaze earnest. “You don’t give yourself enough credit, Adrien. We’re going to have to work on changing that.”
“Is this a team effort thing now?” he hummed, delighted by the prospect.
“Absolutely,” she confirmed…but then the air of teasing left her. “…I’ve been really worried about you since Saturday. If there’s anything—anything—I can do for you, please let me know. …What do you think I could do to help?”
He chewed thoughtfully on the inside of his cheek for a moment before answering. “…I don’t know, really. You’ve done so much already for me as Chat Noir just by giving me a warm, safe, place to go when I need to escape. I feel bad asking for more.”
“Don’t,” she urged. “It really is fine, Adrien. Earlier, you said that you wanted me to be okay, didn’t you? That’s how I feel about you too, so don’t ever feel bad for asking.”
Slowly, he began to nod as comprehension dawned upon him. “…Oh….”
She gave him an encouraging smile and squeezed his hand. “Yeah.”
Blushing, he looked down at their joined hands. “Okay. Well…I’ll have to let you know as I think of things, but…I don’t know if there’s a whole lot you can do. I think a lot of being mentally healthy starts and ends with me, so…I think I have to do most of the work myself.”
“But you can still let me know if there’s anything I can do to support you,” she reminded.
He nodded. “Yeah. You’re right. …I will. I think mostly I just need someone to talk to about things.”
“You can talk to me whenever you need to,” she assured. “I mean, I hardly sleep, so you can call or text whenever.”
He frowned at this. “I think maybe we need to reevaluate your self-care behaviors while we’re at it. I’ve always known that Marinette had a crazy hectic schedule full of stress and deadlines, but now that I know you’re juggling a side gig as a superhero on top of everything you do as Marinette, I’m kind of worried.”
She averted her gaze, sticking her lip out in a pout. “I liked it better when we were focusing on you.”
“I’ll bet you did,” he snickered. “Just know that this is a two-way street. I’m here for you too, Marinette.”
She dropped the pout and looked up at him with a soft smile. “Thanks…. I think you should talk to Nino about how you’ve been feeling lately. Maybe Alya too, if you feel comfortable talking to her, but definitely Nino. He’s going to freak.”
Adrien winced. “Yeah…. Yeah, I know. I just don’t want—”
“—Don’t you dare mention being a burden or bothering him,” she warned. “Nino would be insulted. He loves you literally as much as he loves his brother, if not, more.”
“Yeah,” Adrien sighed, sufficiently cowed. “I’ve just been too scared to say anything.”
She hesitated before continuing, “And…you know…maybe we could go see a therapist?”
He raised an eyebrow in surprise at the suggestion. “A therapist?”
She nodded tentatively. “I know I’m awesome, but I’m only seventeen, Adrien. There are a lot of things that I’m completely clueless about. I’ve looked into psychology a little bit to help me deal with akuma victims, but I’m not an expert. I was just thinking that maybe talking to a counselor would be helpful. Maybe they’ll think of things that could help that we would never come up with on our own.”
“That’s true,” he allowed, considering the idea.
“I don’t know,” she sighed. “I just know that there are a lot of times where I think, ‘Man, I wish I had an adult to help me out with this’. Most of the time I’m completely on my own—besides you and the others and Tikki, I mean…. I was just thinking that this is maybe one time where we don’t have to go it alone. Maybe an adult can help.”
“I’ll think about it,” he granted. “It would be hard to see a doctor without my father finding out, and he isn’t going to like this, but…it’s a good idea,” he agreed.
“Good,” she sighed in relief, leaning into a languid, exploratory kiss that Adrien was more than happy to return.
They broke apart a few minutes later with a contented hum and stared dreamily into each other’s eyes.
Suddenly, an idea occurred to Adrien, and he gave a start.
“Stupid question,” he announced hesitantly.
“No such thing,” she assured, wrapping her arms around him more snugly.
“Are we dating now?” he warily inquired. “Sorry. Do I need to ask you out still? I mean, I assume we’re on the same page because we both said that we loved one another, and we’ve been kissing, so one would think that we’re dating, but I just wanted to make sure because I’ve never done this before, and I’m—”
“—Adrien?” she cut him off gently.
He tipped his head to the side. “Yes?”
“Will you go out with me?” she asked so that there would be no doubt in his mind as to what she wanted.
“Yes,” he responded breathlessly, and the joy in his eyes made her heart melt.
“Good,” she chuckled. “For our first date, would you want to have movie night tonight? We could snuggle on the couch and make cookies together.”
He surprised her by saying no.
“That can’t be our first date,” he whined. “It’s not romantic enough. I’ve had our first date planned for years, Princess. There have to be rose petals and candles and mood music. We’re supposed to eat at this amazing restaurant and take ballroom dancing lessons and then have a rooftop picnic as we watch the stars and snuggle. We can’t have a night in as our first date,” he argued.
She stared at him with a deadpan expression, debating whether it would be damaging to their nascent relationship for her to face-palm.
“My boyfriend is a high-maintenance dork,” she sighed.
“Hey,” he pouted, and she could almost see his ears and tail drooping despite the fact that he wasn’t transformed.
“All right,” she relented. “If we don’t call it a date, would you like to hang out and snuggle and watch movies and bake cookies?”
“Definitely,” he easily approved but then thought to add softly, in a slightly hurt tone, “I’m not silly, you know, for wanting my first date with the woman I love to be everything I’ve ever dreamed it would be.”
“No,” she agreed, reaching up to stroke his hair lovingly. “I’m sorry. You’re not. You deserve to have the first date of your dreams. I shouldn’t have scoffed, even if it is a bit more…” She searched for the word, came up with “over the top”, and decided against voicing it. “…more than I had in mind,” she ended conciliatorily.
“I love you, and I want you to have nice things,” she assured, earning herself an affectionate nuzzle from him.
“Thanks,” he whispered. “That means a lot to me.”
She then did something she knew she would later regret as a show of her love for him: “You can plan our first date,” she offered. “Whatever you want it to be. Go wild.”
The way his eyes lit up at her giving him free rein confirmed her fears…yet, the pure joy in his expression made her think that, if a crazy rom-com-cliché-filled date was the price of his happiness, it was well worth it.
The End

Summary: Getting stuck at the airport for hours because of the weather was the last thing Jean wanted today, but it was what he got and honestly, if it meant he could chat with this cute guy who swept a hard 'no' on Jean's Tinder for longer, he wouldn't say no to a few more hours.
Based on a twitter post which I don’t know how to dig up.
----------
This is a birthday gift for the sweetest, most precious @roxi4 <3 I’ve said this a lot of times but I love you so much and I wish I could personally beat 2021 into submission so that it’s the best goddamn year of your life for you. But, sadly, I’m not a god yet so I gotta settle for writing fics for now.
Also yes, I am posting here like two weeks late because I’m lazy I’m sorry.
----------
Jean glared at the departure board, wishing he could set it on fire just like that. He understood things like this happened; he could see the heavy rain and wind outside—and people called this spring? Jean demanded a refund—so really, it could have been much worse, but a three hour delay for his three hours and thirty-five goddamned minutes flight was absolutely ridiculous and only slightly rage inducing.
He sighed in frustration and, grabbing his suitcase, he turned away to head to the closest coffee shop. He needed a damn coffee. Preferably spiked or with 8 shots of espresso, he’d decide in the line.
This was seriously so stupid. He had spent an entire week on this business trip and he was tired and the only thing he wanted was getting home to his cat and passing the hell out. At least the Melbourne airport was decent enough and he could safely be bored out of his mind with as much coffee as he needed without worrying he’d catch tetanus like he was at a certain American airport a few years ago. He would take his comfort where he could at this point.
Finally, he managed to order his coffee with only two extra espresso shots—he didn’t want to seem like that much of a psycho but the barista didn't even blink at his order and Jean had to wonder what weird shit the people at a busy airport had to deal with—and headed to the corner of the departure hall that seemed the quietest. There were only a few people loitering around there, all looking just as exhausted as Jean felt. Seemed like Jean would fit right in with their collective coma.
Making his way to one of the empty seats, Jean had to weave his way through the maze of suitcases until one of them caught his attention. Or, more specifically, the book laying carefully bookmarked and discarded on it. Who in their right mind read what looked like an entire fucking encyclopaedia full of words Jean probably couldn't even pronounce while waiting on their plane? No wonder the owner put it aside eventually.
Jean inadvertently looked up at the person sitting next to the suitcase and he did a double take. He had expected some old fart, the type that just screamed of a dreadfully boring college professor who preferred his test tubes or calculations to his students—or people in general, really—not this… tiny, adorable, small animal type of guy who, from his profile, looked around Jean’s age or even younger.
He took in the young man’s small frame, the short, blond hair, and the way he sat cross legged on the hard, uncomfortable airport chair and Jean couldn’t get over how cute the sight was. He was really glad the other man was so engrossed in his phone because even Jean could tell he was staring      .
And then something else caught Jean’s eye.
Was that Tinder on his phone? Was that… Jean’s ancient Tinder he was looking at?
Jean felt heat coming up to his face. He hadn’t used the stupid app in years, probably since like... his second year of college. He didn’t even know why he didn’t delete his profile but now he was glad he didn’t because it would be really nice to know if he should even bother trying to strike up conversation here.
With bated breath, Jean waited for the verdict. He watched as if in slow motion as the blond’s thumb moved to touch the screen and swiped—
Left.
Of course it was left.
Unable to stop himself, an awkward laugh forced its way past his lips and he heard himself say, “Hard no for him?”
Even the way he jumped at Jean’s words was cute. And when wide, impossibly blue eyes met his own, Jean felt his stomach drop. Damn, this left swipe really hurt. Jean really had a talent for getting his heart broken before he even had the chance to try. First Mikasa, now this. Did someone up there have something against him?
A few silent, painfully awkward seconds of the two of them just staring at each other passed, until the blond opened his mouth to speak, “If it makes you feel any better, your profile pic really doesn’t do you any favours.”
Jean groaned. Of course. He knew he shouldn’t have let Eren choose his picture, the absolute asshole. He couldn’t believe he still called this guy a friend. Getting roomed with him at the dorm in college was seriously the worst thing to happen in his life.
“Thanks, I guess,” Jean said lamely, sheepishly scratching at the back of his head. Could this get any more awkward?
The other guy laughed then, and it was the sweetest laugh Jean had ever heard. “You’re welcome,” he said, smirning at Jean as he held out his hand. “I’m Armin. Jean, right?”
Jean shook Armin’s hand, almost asking where he had learned his name but managing to stop himself at the last second. They literally just talked about Jean’s embarrassing Tinder profile for God’s sake.
“Nice to meet you,” he said instead, hoping that was a better way to go about it than making a bigger idiot out of himself.
Thankfully, it seemed like it was, as Armin gestured to the empty seat next to him and Jean gratefully took it, making himself as comfortable as he could in the stupid airport chair. Seriously, why were airport chairs always so uncomfortable? People were sitting on these for hours at a time every day, one would think someone would make sure their asses were not hurting. Although, now that he thought about it, cushioned chairs probably wouldn’t last very long—or stay reasonably sanitary, for that matter. It was probably a good thing his ass hurt already.
Jean took his first, long-overdue sip of his coffee before he gestured towards Armin’s suitcase. “Interesting book you’ve got there. Wanted a bit of light reading?”
Armin paused, looking at Jean as if he was trying to figure him out. “Please tell me that was an intentional Harry Potter reference,” he said after a moment. Oh, Jean was so happy he had caught that.
“Maybe,” he only replied, hiding his smirk behind his coffee cup.
Huffing in amusement, Armin glanced at his terrifying looking book instead. “Just trying to do some research for my final thesis. But I have to admit some people really can’t write in an interesting way even when talking about interesting topics.”
“Hear, hear,” Jean muttered. “Some people really shouldn’t be allowed to publish books, especially if they then make people study from those.” He still remembered the pain from school. He particularly enjoyed the teachers who required the students read their own God-awful books. It was always a guarantee for the most boring read of the year.
“I know!” Armin cried, gesturing around in frustration and Jean couldn’t help but smile at the sight. “I can’t wait to finish my Ph.D. so I that can not read the things I don’t want to.”
Jean chuckled at his enthusiasm. He really had to love his field of study to get this passionate about shitty books. “What are you studying?” he asked curiously.
“Marine biology,” Armin beamed, making Jean gulp.
Ocean. Fish. Corals. That was about as much as his humble business management brain knew about marine biology. Couldn’t really impress with that, could he? “And you’re doing a PhD. in that?”
Armin nodded. “Yeah. Actually, I’m just coming back home from giving a guest lecture at the university."
"Melbourne university?" Jean asked, raising a brow. He kind of hoped he was wrong and he wasn't just casually chatting with some up and coming scientist celebrity.
"Yeah," Arming confirmed and blushed slightly.
"Damn, that's impressive," Jean admitted, though now he was positive that if Armin started talking science to him, he wouldn't understand a word.
Armin's eyes dropped as he looked away, obviously embarrassed by the praise, then he shrugged and quietly replied, "Not really. This stuff is really easy when you have good teachers."
Jean shook his head. "Nah, if you don't have it in you, it doesn't matter how good a teacher is. You can kiss any degree goodbye then, never mind giving lectures."
He heard Armin huff in amusement and goddamn it, it gave him butterflies. He was so fucked.
"Thank you," the blond said, smiling at Jean brightly before he continued. "How about you? Where to?"
Jean sighed wearily, sagging in his seat as he remembered his exhaustion. "Also home. On my way back from an absolutely stupid business trip."
"Why stupid?" Armin asked as he turned around in his seat to face Jean properly.
Jean mirrored him immediately, hooking one arm behind the backrest as he leaned on the chair sideways. He really enjoyed talking to this random, sweet stranger and he was really glad it seemed to be mutual. He was going to hate saying goodbye.
Suddenly, he wouldn't have minded if his flight got delayed a few more hours.
"Just, you know, people," Jean muttered in distaste. "One would think only customers can be complete idiots. Turns out coworkers can sometimes be even worse."
Armin laughed at his words, nodding along enthusiastically. "God I know. Sometimes I want to kill the doctor leading my lab. Hanji’s a genius but there is so much energy and she can be so stupid. She almost blows up or floods the lab at least once a week."
"I'm sorry, that must be so hard to deal with—" Jean cringed in sympathy at the mere idea of it— "Reminds me of my team. I love them but once in a while, I just want to fire them all when they start organizing paper boat races in the bathroom. Paper boats made from paperwork they don't want to do, by the way."
"Ouch." Armin sounded solemn but Jean could hear the hidden laughter and he just knew he found Sasha and Connie's stupid ideas hilarious. Which… Jean could admit they were, just not when he was the one who then had to explain the mess and unfinished work to his boss.
“Stop laughing,” Jean hissed, though with no real venom in his voice.
“I’m not!” Armin defended himself, but then burst out laughing when Jean glared at him so he quickly corrected himself, “Okay, yeah, I am. Sorry.”
He didn’t sound sorry at all and Jean sighed. “Everyone always finds my suffering funny.”
Armin let him grumble to himself for a bit, the two of them sitting in relative silence for a moment and… it wasn’t uncomfortable. It was actually relaxing and Jean really didn’t want this to end. “So hey—” He paused, glancing at Armin carefully, almost afraid to ask— “when is your flight?”
“Hopefully, in like two and a half hours. Got delayed almost as long as the flight itself.”
Jean almost said it was the same for him but he stopped. Could it be…? “You’re not flying to Auckland, are you?”
Armin visibly startled, blinking at Jean with eyes full of surprise. “Yes, actually,” he said slowly and Jean couldn’t believe it. He had thought he would never see this this cute, fun person ever again but—
“Me, too,” he said quietly and the two of them continued staring at each other in shock for a few moments more until they both burst out laughing.
Incredible. They were both flying to the same place and they would be within reach of each other and maybe there was a point in actually pursuing this. “So, uhm, wanna grab a coffee?” Jean asked awkwardly, pointing in the general direction of the food court.
And only when Armin looked pointedly at his pointing hand, did Jean realize he was still holding his over-caffeinated coffee cup. He really hoped his face wasn’t as on fire as it felt.
Armin only chuckled, thankfully not commenting on Jean’s blunder, and rather suggesting, “How about some actual food instead?”
-------------
By the time they got off the plane in Auckland, Jean was on cloud nine as he gently squeezed Armin’s hand in his. Jean was still not sure this was real; they had spent the entire time at the airport and during their flight chatting—not that they had miraculously had seats next to each other like in the movies, but Jean did bribe an older lady with wine to switch seats with him—and it was the best damn flight delay he could have asked for.
It felt so natural and easy being with Armin, he couldn’t wait to get to know him more during their date tomorrow, and hopefully many more after. Because Jean would be lying if he said he wasn’t completely gone for this charming, adorable genius already.
As they walked through the exit into the arrival hall together, Armin immediately waved at his friend who was picking him up. Jean had offered to give him a ride since he had his car parked at the airport but Armin had said this friend of his would be worried if he just suddenly cancelled and—
Oh hell no.
Jean stared at the tall, young man with long hair tied up in a messy bun who was walking towards them, watching as his wide smile froze when their eyes met. Of fucking course. Jean just couldn’t have any nice things in life, could he?
“Unhand my best friend, Horse Face,” Eren growled and Jean took a deep breath in an effort to calm down.
It didn’t work. “Unhand my boss, then,” he shot back, throwing a pointed stare at where Eren had his arm wrapped around the short, grumpy man who just so happened to be both Jean’s boss and his ex-roommate’s boyfriend. Levi was already sighing and rolling his eyes at them and Jean really hoped this wouldn’t affect his bonus this quarter.
But Eren started it.
“You have no say in that,” Eren hissed, visibly bristling as his hold on Levi only tightened.
“Oh, so you admit it’s unreasonable?” Jean asked, his voice dripping in sarcasm.
Jean could hear Armin gasp as he finally realized what was going on. Obviously, he also didn’t expect this to happen and Jean was glad he wasn’t the only one. Although, really, how did it not occur to Jean that Armin was that Armin? It wasn’t exactly a common name around Auckland…
Just as Eren was getting ready to snap back at him, both Levi and Armin sighed before Levi intervened, “Shut the hell up, both of you. Have this fight when I’m not around for it or I’m talking Armin and leaving your asses here.”
“I second this movement,” Armin said firmly tugging at Jean’s hand for good measure.
Both Eren and Jean closed their mouths then, both knowing full well that was not an empty threat coming from the short grump. Not that Jean wouldn’t get back by himself but he would be stuck with driving Eren, too, without anyone there to mediate, and that would be a disaster.
They glared at each other silently for a second, until Eren hissed at him, “Usual bar, tonight. We’re having a talk.”
“I’ll be there, I need a fucking drink after this,” Jean muttered back, rubbing the bridge of his nose.
Giving Armin a kiss on the cheek, Jean quickly retreated out of Eren’s glare’s range and towards his car so that he could get some fucking sleep before he would go out and get drunk while Eren threatened him with violence for apparently seducing his best friend, or whatever Eren would take out of this… situation. How did shit like this even happen in real life? He seriously wondered what he did in his past life to get karma like this.
At least Armin was worth it.
