Prompt 56
Jaskier's tears magically heal whatever they fall on. Whether he's blessed, or has fae blood, etc etc is all up to you Geralt learned when he had a certainly fatal injury and his bard cried over him, only for the wounds to miraculously lessen in intensity, to the point he could stitch them up and he'd be fine in a couple of days. The only issue is that certain enemies are getting word of Jaskier's abilities, and are now desperately seeking some way to steal Geralt's bard from him in order to use those powers for themselves.

I recently watched "The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep". The animation was not good, the story was mediocre and the voice acting was bad in general. It was entertaining but barely.
Every time Essi spoke, idk. It's like they couldn't decide on a specific accent or tone. Also she was the only character with that kind of accent (no one in the village spoke like that which, why?). The whole voice acting around her felt uninspired and like she was too bored to say the lines with any emotion or passion.
The sirens voice switching between the sing-song tone when she spoke to humans but then lose that quality when they were talking amongst merpeople felt really weird too, it was distracting.

They could have given Jaskier a male love interest among the witchers at Kaer Morhen, they could have made up an entirely new character on an episodic adventure for him to fall in love with, they could have picked literally anyone else. They even could have picked Geralt (although he's the most obvious choice). But no.
It had to be fucking Radovid. The guy who eventually becomes a religious extremist tyrant and goes on literal witch hunts and gouges a woman's eyes out. Great!

Small Announcement
I created this side-blog years ago for my favorite tv shows as a place where I could save my favorite posts about them since I couldn't reblog them in my main blog, which used to be focused on another fandom (hetalia 🙈) and so I created an elaborate tagging system to keep track of everything.
Since then I've also posted many of my own creations (memes, fanfiction, shitposts) and I've gained many followers.
For years now I've even been using the queue non-stop, making sure to post stuff equally about each tv show (if you check my blog you'll see that I'm being serious lol)
What I'm saying is that I haven't used this blog as an archive for a long time and I'm tired of this annoying ass tagging system so from now on I'll just tag the show, the characters, the ship and nothing else. I'll still post about The Witcher, Good Omens and Hannibal equally while using the queue though.
I'm sure you're all inconsolable but please to try bear with it.
Ok bye.

So...
Was anyone going to tell me Joey Batey could go completely feral with a sword, or was I supposed to find out on my own?!
Also, anyone else here suddenly wants The Witcher to include a "fantasy sequence" where Jaskier is narrating some of his and Geralt's adventures, and there's a bit where Geralt is injured, so Jaskier just ends up grabbing one of his swords and either heroically defeating the monster himself, or fighting back against a small army?
And we're, like, visually shown that epic fight until someone calls bullshit, and they show that either the monster was already about to drop dead (and fell to the floor before Jaskier had the chance to actually do anything with the sword), or there was a single guy left, and Jaskier just knocked him out from behind or something.
I mean having a guy that's freaking trained in fencing, kick boxing, medieval sword fighting, and stage combat (according to IMDb) on a fantasy show like "The Witcher", with all those awesome fight choreographers, and not having him show off those fighting skills at least once feels like such a waste!
I get that Jaskier can't fight like that, but COME ON! He'd totally be able to imagine it!
It's the whole point of poetry, damnit! It doesn't have to be real!
And I've just discovered that archers have a nasty habit of thinking he makes a good target.

Some Witcher Characters’ Name Meanings
Julian “Jaskier” Alfred Pankratz
Julian means “Jove’s Child”, Jove being an alternate name for Jupiter, the King of the Gods in Roman mythology, their equivalent to the Greek Zeus. I like the mythology reference in his name considering in the Netflix series he references the Muses, Greek Goddesses of inspiration.
Julian can also mean “youthfulness”, which is fun since he doesn’t seem to age.
As pointed out by @kaiseaya — Julian is the only name still in use in Poland, as well as the most common name on here in other countries such as England or Germany, effectively making Jaskier’s Name seem more ‘normal’ in comparison to other names on the list. He’s just a guy.
Alfred means “elf counsellor” and I think this fact has destroyed me. So what if I said he was destined to become the sandpiper? What then?
Pankratz has Greek origins, from pan, meaning ‘all’, and kratein, meaning ‘to rule/to conquer’. So Pankratz therefore means “to conquer all” or “to rule everything”. It’s also said to have German origins.
Jaskier, as everyone in this fandom knows, is “buttercup”, though it was translated as Dandelion in English because “buttercup was too feminine. Buttercups symbolise friendship, joy, and youth. Dandelions represent resilience and hope, and are used to make wishes. Netflix does utilise the ‘dandelion’ name, when he’s referred to as ‘The Dandelion’ while in Radovid’s room in season 3.
Sandpipers are shorebirds that would probably be close to Jaskier’s hometown since it’s coastal. They represent safe travels, adaptability, and long journeys, which fits the role the name was made for.
Yennefer of Vengerberg
Her name should be spelled Jennifer, but was apparently translated as Yennefer to keep the polish pronunciation, rather than having the pronunciation Jennifer would have in the English language.
Jennifer is Welsh, meaning “white ghost” or “fair lady”
It’s derived from Guinevere, who was the ‘beautiful but unfaithful’ wife of King Arthur in British medieval literature/legend
She has the ‘of x’ place name rather than surname. It seems the only characters with this are orphaned characters?
Vengerberg sounds like ‘avenger’ or ‘revenge’. Berg is a common suffix in German place names (where Aedrin is supposedly based on), and it means “mountain”
In the books, her birthname was Janka, which means “god is gracious”. A nickname for Janka is Jenny (read: Yenny) which is likely what would’ve inspired Yennefer
Janka almost reminds me of the name Falka, the Redanian princess accused of being an elf who murdered her family, removed Stregobor’s hands, and was burnt at the stake. In late season 3 we see Falka teaching Ciri to use fire magic, stepping into Yennefer’s role in some ways, teaching Ciri the thing that caused Yennefer herself so many problems
Both of her lovers (Istredd and Geralt) give her a shortened nickname. Istredd calls her ‘Yenna’, Geralt calls her ‘Yen’. This paints Geralt and Istredd as both being two sides of the same coin. Geralt specifically giving a nickname is definitely a love language as, aside from Yennefer, the only other nickname he’s used is Jask for Jaskier
Her other notable nickname is ‘Piglet’, by Tissaia, a name she is referred to as for being in the pigsty when Tissaia met her, that she stops using when she feels Yennefer has earned her respect. This way of teaching, Yennefer uses on Ciri later, calling her ‘My Ugly One’
Geralt of Rivia
Geralt is apparently Germanic in origin, meaning “ruler of the spear”
I like that both him and Jaskier have something to do with ruling somewhere in their names
We know that, at least in the series canon, attributes the name to Vesemir, and is upset by (the hallucination of) his mother using it. We don’t know his birth name
He is not actually from Rivia. We do not know where he is actually from, I don’t think.
To keep up this act of being from Rivia, he picked up a Rivian accent. Rivian accents are looked down upon by other people in the Contient, specially from Aedirn and Temeria
His first choice for his name was Geralt Roger Eric du Haute-Bellegarde
Roger means “famous spear”, Eric means “alone, ruler”. Haute-Bellagarde is French in origins, haute meaning “high” and Bellegarde meaning “beautiful watch tower”
Therefore, Geralt’s original name, in full, would’ve meant “Lone Ruler of the Famous Spear from the High, Beautiful Watch-Tower”
Everyone say thank you Vesemir for making him not do that
Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon
Cirilla, Greek origin (my ‘Ciri and Jaskier are both descendants from Éile and Fjall from blood origin’ headcanon is. It’s doing things). Means “ruler”
Fiona means “white” or “fair”
Fiona is also one of the names Francesca brought up to name her and Filavandrel’s daughter.
Elen is derived from the Greek ‘Helen’, meaning “shining torch” or simply “light”. Helen, as in Helen of Sparta — the ‘face who launched a thousand ships’. The Trojan war was fought to bring her home after she was kidnapped
Riannon is welsh, meaning “great queen” or “goddess”
Calanthe also has Fiona Elen Riannon as part of her name. Pavetta has only Fiona Elen
Ciri has a relative with Riannon as a first name. Riannon had a daughter named Fiona. Those two were connected with Falka. She also has a relative named Elen
Cahir Mawr Dyffryn aep Caellach
Cahir is Irish, meaning “Battle man” or “warrior”
Mawr means “great” and is Welsh
His mother was named Mawr, which is presumably where he got that name. I have a few trans!Cahir headcanons from this that the world is not ready for
Dyffryn is his family name, also Welsh, meaning “valley”. They were nobles in Vicovaro, owning land named Dyffra.
Caellach is his father’s name, leading me to believe that aep means ‘of’ or ‘son of’.
Caellach is Irish. The fact that his family name is Welsh like his mother’s name, while his father’s name and first name are both Irish, lead me to beliehe that the family name (and by extension the nobility) is the mother’s, but I haven’t read the books so I don’t know for sure
Emhyr Var Emreis
Emhyr is also Welsh, and yet again means “ruler”. It has been pointed out that it’s similar to Emir (Turkish) and amir (Arabic), both of which mean “Commander in Charge”
Emreis is like Emrys, also Welsh, meaning immortal. If this isn’t a surname in the traditional sense but instead a title or epithet, perhaps Var means ‘the’, making him Emhyr The Immortal
His full name, as we learn in s3, is Emhyr Var Emreis Deithwen Addan yn Carn aep Morvudd
Deithwen being “white flame” in elder speech
Addan, according to the Witcher Wiki, is “dancer/dancing” in the Nilfgaardian language, yn is “on”, and Carn is “tomb”, and Morvudd is “enemies”. We established earlier aep is probably ‘of’
His full name, therefore, is as follows: “Emhyr (Ruler), The Immortal White Flame Dancing on the Tomb of the Enemy”
Duny, the name he used when marrying Pavetta, means “having many sand-dunes”, so I don’t know what that’s about
He called himself the Urcheon of Erlenwald — Urcheon meaning “hedgehog”, and Erlenwald being the forest where he saved Calanthe’s husband (therefore earning Pavetta)
Pavetta
Pavetta is a genus of tropical flower found in Africa and Asia. Latin. The flowers under this genus are white from what I can tell. It apparently also translates to “young leaves”
Reminds me of her colour scheme in the Netflix series, her green dress being the leaves and her light blonde hair being the white flower part
As mentioned before, Pavetta has Fiona Elen, meaning “fair, shining torch”, but she doesn’t have Riannon: great queen. This makes me sad.
Vespula
Vespula is a genus for “social wasps”, their common name being yellow jackets
She’s a wasp, Jaskier is a flower. Wasps are attracted to and pollenate flowers. They were made for each other.
It also comes from Latin ‘vulgaris’ meaning common (as in, common wasp) which is a bit less sweet? Lmao
One of the species under this genus is the cuckoo wasp, and cuckoos symbolise marriage in Greek Myth, as well as being a bird (matching Jaskier’s Sandpiper)
Wasps, in general, symbolise taking control of your life, evolution and progress. However, more general in day-to-day life, they’re seen as annoying and a less-sympathetic version of a bee.
Unlike bees, wasps do not die after stinging you,. They can, and will, sting you repeatedly. (Vespula can, and will, keep throwing Jaskier’s stuff off the balcony. In every adaptation she is a constant)
Fringilla Vigo
Fringilla is another genus. I don’t know why so many of the women have genus names but sure. This is specifically a genus of finches
Finches are quite small, and they’re part of the passerine family which are known for having feet structured specifically for perching
Vigo, aside from being a city in Spain, means “small village” or “settlement”
Philippa Eilhart
Philippa is Greek origin meaning “lover of horses”. The Greek origin specifically here is quite fun because Philipppa shapeshifts into an owl, and Athena, Goddess of Wisdom (Philippa being Redanian intelligence) is associated with owls, while her uncle and Poseidon is associated with horses. Athena also came up with the Trojan horse idea, but I find the Poseidon thing more interesting as Poseidon has a rivalry with Athena, therefore there’s a rivalry between horses and owls, but Philippa, an owl, loves them
Eilhart could be from the Germanic ‘eil’, coming from ‘agil’, meaning “weapon” and ‘hart’ being “strong”, making her “strong weapon”. Alternatively, someone on Reddit also brought up the closeness of ‘eil’ to the German word ‘eule’ which means owl, in which case her last name could mean “strong owl”. Both are fitting in my opinion.
Radovid V
Radovid is Slavic, mainly Polish or Czech, meaning “renowned counsellor”. Both him and Jaskier having ‘counsellor’ in their name means a lot to me.
Other sources say Radovid means “delight to see” — someone remarked that non-Netflix Radovid ‘delights to see others suffer’. Alternatively, it may also mean “to see glory”
Rience
Welsh, apparently derived from Rhiannon, though Rience specifically focuses on the ‘goddess’ meaning of that name, and means “a magical and enchanting goddess”, apparently, which is quite funny to me
However, there was also a Rience in Arthurian legend, the thing that Yennefer’s ‘Guinevere’ comes from. He is an enemy of King Arthur (surely, with Yennefer being the ‘unfaithful wife’ and Rience being the enemy, Arthur would be Geralt? But then who does Yen cheat on him with? The closest thing Geralt has to a Lancelot, or close companion, is probably Jaskier. Oops)

Prompt 145
I'm gonna be real with y'all, I have not seen the netflix show. I do not wish to see the netflix show. I don't like how it handles the characters, and changes things around. However I do know that Jaskier gets tortured by a man named Rience ("Firefucker") and then Yen saves him and whatnot, and I cannot for the life of me find fics where it's Geralt that saves him instead. He wants to make up for what he said on the mountain and tracks down his bard only to find him being tortured. So this is your calling, my darling writers, feed me, won't you? Go.. Off into the wind... write me my hurt/comfort... write me my rescue missions......
Geralt slams the door open, splinters of the wooden door flinging through the air. The first thing to hit him is the smell of burned flesh. He stomps in, and glances around, seeing a man looming over another man, the second is tied to a chair. A single inhale of the air, and more of that burned smell, but Geralt also smells- .. Jaskier. He knew he was here. His tracking hadn't failed him. "Look, songbird, the man of the hour is here." Firefucker practically coos, locking eyes with Geralt.

A Lark Among the Wolves and Dragons: A HotD/Witcher Crossover
PSA: the following story was originally posted on Wattpad and then on my previous tumblr account merlot-and-chardonnay. Due to suspect shadowbanning, I've created this new account and intend to post my content here from now on. If you wish to read the original story and can't wait for me to update on this site, you can visit Wattpad here.
The sister of the Bard Jaskier, and a talented bard in her own right, had came to Westeros initially to make a name for herself. In her ambition, she ended up catching the attention of a certain Rogue Prince whose ambitions may outweigh her own.
When the unexpected happens, she must return to the Continent to seek out the white haired witcher and hope their past history will garner reason to offer her protection.
But will the White Wolf's silver sword be enough to stave off the wrath and heat of the Dragon?

HI! I’m here to ask honest opinion on….Lore Olympus. I’m sorry for putting my opinion here….but I hate it. I’m sorry, I try to see it in a good way….put it paints Apollo as a horrible person. And there are other things that I’d respectfully don’t like about it.However, I want to see your opinion. That is if you’re willing to share it. BTW, I fricking love your drawings., especially the ones about Apollo and his myths! Have a good day or night!
Hello!
I'm glad you like my art 🫶🏻
So, Lore Olympus.
This probably won't come as a surprise to most people, considering how much Apollo art I've made, but I hate Lore Olympus. And not only because of how poorly Apollo was portrayed there.
I'm going to be honest with you: I never read much of it. I read maybe a few chapters some years ago because it was advertised as Greek mythology retelling, but I didn't continue because it was boring to me.
Much later, I saw a lot of posts pointing out all the things wrong with Lore Olympus, and boy oh boy, it's bad.
From what I've seen, it’s hardly a retelling; if the names of the characters were changed, nobody would realize this is supposed to be myth-inspired.
And look, I'm not saying you can't change anything when making a Greek mythology retelling, because it's simply impossible to keep everything the same as in the myths—especially when you want to create a story that covers many myths. The math isn't mathing when it comes to Greek mythology, because the myths changed over time, and different city-states had their own versions of the stories, so it's pretty impossible to make a cohesive timeline without changing something.
But from what I've seen, there isn't much Greek influence in this Greek mythology retelling. From the way the characters dress and speak to the food they eat, there is nothing Greek about this comic, it’s completely Americanized.
And I hate Americanization so much. I remember watching Netflix's "The Witcher" and being so disappointed because there was nothing Slavic about it. They kept Jaskier's original name from the books and called it a day. They turned it into another generic fantasy show.
I know that many Greek people feel the same way about Lore Olympus and other American adaptations of their myths. I love Percy Jackson, but the whole "gods moved to the USA because this is where Western civilization is" is just so icky to me. Greece still exists, hello??????
Back to Lore Olympus. For some reason it's fans think that the comic is a valid source for mythology, and they spread so much misinformation.
For the last time: Persephone was abducted in the myths. There is no version where she goes to the Underworld on her own.
Demeter is a heartbroken mother looking for her beloved daughter, not some evil helicopter parent standing between Persephone and her happiness. Justice for Apollo and Demeter.
Also, Persephone is sometimes drawn like a child and looks more like Hades' daughter than his wife. Why?????
And from what I've seen, Persephone is ridiculously powerful for some reason and fights Kronos or something???????
Also, apparently, Leto is portrayed as a manipulative mother????? Leto??? The Titan goddess of motherhood??? Why????
I don't understand why this comic got so popular, to be honest. Probably because of the artstyle.

In some languages, Jaskier's name is Marigold, which is kind of strange because there is already a character called Marigold.
Has anyone ever thought about using the information to do a fic where Jaskier and Triss are related to each other?

I was writing a fanfic but something happened and now the file is damaged. I'm not sure I have it in me to start from scratch once again so I'll just pour this idea here, maybe someone will like to use it
One winter Eskel, injured, got stuck for winter in Lettenhove, small county of Kerak, taking full advantage of healer's hospitality. During winter he befriended a little boy who isn't afraid of a witcher and, in fact, is very interested in his stories. Eskel knows he shouldn't tell quite a lot of things, but some of them just slip out occasionally. Well, not like a child will remember any of those, so no harm. Winter end, Eskel goes back to his usual life. He doesn't come back to Lettenhove, path taking him to different parts of continent.
Little boy, however, has a very good memory and a newfound obsession with witchers. As he grows older and learns how to read, he tries to find anything about them in the books. His curiosity is somewhat satisfied when he is already a student at Oxenfurt and has access to Academy's library with a lot of ancient scrolls on history.
After graduation Jaskier, no-name young bard with nothing but his lute, is brooding in the corner of a small tavern in Posada. He is dead set on becoming the best bard, but he has nothing to write ballads about. No muse. Well, no problem, lets make one up. Since he was always obsessed with witchers, why not sing about them? Only needs a hero. A bit of searching for old memories plus everything he learned from archives, sketching what he thinks Eskel looked like (Jaskier was a child, he couldn't possibly remember Witcher's face in full detail), a bit of artistic choices to modify that face, a pinch of tragic backstory, sprinkle with personality that would do good for hero of ballads, and a suitable name as a cherry on top. Congratulations, you just created Geralt of Rivia.
While thinking about how to start working with this new character of his creation, Jaskier goes to take a look at the devil he heard local rumors of. He finds a cave with half-starved and incredibly intelligent Sylvan and a few dead elves. Creature turns out to be a surprisingly good conversationalist after Jaskier shares some of his bread with him. Jaskier promised to make up a story that will keep humans away from searching for the "devil" and receives an elven lute as gift, since otherwise it will just rot in this cave. That is how "Toss a coin" was made.
Toss a coin is more successful than Jaskier could predict in his most narcissistic fantasies. He writes a few more songs about Geralt and his career really takes off. At some point Jaskier realized that people actually think Geralt is a real person. Amused, he plays along, completely satisfied with his own genius. Especially when some people not only recognize him, but claim to have seen the White Wolf. They actually believe it.
Jaskier knows that Geralt is fictional but an artist needs emotions to make his art, so he intentionally falls in love with his character and intentionally makes Geralt in his mind harsher. Because Jaskier is dramatic bastard and unrequited love is perfect fuel for ballads.
After silently watching from sidelines the whole epic of Pavetta's bethrothal ball, Jaskier spins the story of how Geralt was involved a claimed the Law of Surprise. Jaskier gets invited back to play from time to time, watching Ciri grow, and realizes that somehow even Calanthe - a person directly involved in the whole thing, an eyewitness and active participant - believes in Jaskier's made-up story about Geralt's involvement. Jaskier knows it will bite him in the ass later, but this is too funny and he is just a bit insane so he indulged with pride.
When Countess de Stael breaks up with him, Jaskier is drowning his sorrows in a bottle of gin on a riverbank. Oh, crap, he slipped and scratched his throat on something accidentally. He goes to the local healer to buy some ointment for scratches - bard with a scar on his throat would be absurd - and she is a lovely sarcastic young-looking elf with dark curls and just a bit of magic, named Jenny. Deciding that if he is suffering from a broken heart, Geralt should suffer too. Jaskier's drinking spree transforms into a story of fighting jinn, saving a mortality wounded bard and falling in love with a sexy dangerous witch. Welcome, new character, we will call you Yennefer. Thank you, Jenny, for inspiration. Jaskier is jealous and heartbroken, but he thrives on it and enjoys every second of his life misery very much, milking it for creative purposes.
Annual visit to Cintra, bad news. The whole family of three perished in sea waters. Lioness of Cintra is loosing her mind with grief. It really is a pity to see such a strong woman in such state, so to calm her Jaskier sings about Ciri as if she was still alive. Surprisingly, it helps.
Jaskier tags along on some idiotic, in his opinion, quest to hunt a dragon. It is a failure through and through, nothing interesting happening and no material for ballads. On top of that mountain Jaskier decides that he needs a break, perhaps a vacation somewhere nice. Maybe go to the coast. But he can never really get a break from his own imagination. Besides, a bit of a heartbreak seems like a perfect grand finale for this failed adventure. So, Geralt and Yennefer fight, than Geralt sends the bard away. Perfect. This way Jaskier will be able to suffer as much as he wants AND not be distracted by thinking about Geralt being present.
Unfortunately , no vacation for Jaskier. Cintra falls, and the bard finds out that, apparently, he gaslighted the entire continent into believing that not only Geralt exists, but Yenn as well, and that lion cub of Cintra is alive. Well, fuck, Jaskier really is a genius if he says so himself. If only Nilfgaard didn't have a bounty for his head, hoping to get information about the witcher. Really, the whole empire on a wild goose chase for a fictional witcher and a long dead princess, can you imagine. Jaskier knew it would bite him in the ass.
Being tortured by Rience is no fun, especially since Jaskier literally cannot give him any information, but firefucker doesn't believe Jaskier when the bard tries to explain that Ciri is dead and Geralt doesn't exist. He gets saved eventually and tries to lay low for some time. Jaskier may be a bit crazy, but he doesn't have a death wish.
The story ends with Jaskier meeting witchers of Kaer Morhen. To his utter disbelief, even they are affected by collective madness. They fully believe in Geralt's existence and have memories about shared life experiences with him. Even Eskel, which is another level of ridiculous. Because Geralt, at his core, IS Eskel, just with a whole lot of artistic liberties and a very successful PR manager of a bard.
There is no explanation given to why this happened. Maybe Jaskier just so convincing, maybe he is a bit magical, maybe it's his elven lute being magical. The only thing that gets explained during the story is why some people believe they actually saw Geralt with Jaskier. After visualizing his character for so long, Jaskier accidentally and unknowingly created a tulpa. Given magical nature of the world, sometimes its presence is noticed. But its not real, nothing more than a weak projection of bard's fantasies.
