What some fans and the books seem to fail to understand is that love of a family member isn't just "Love or Hate" and that's it.

Just like you mentioned, CurlFeather raised FrostPaw good and sure, she may have unintentionally feel a little pressured to go towards a career path, but really besides that, CurlFeather loved FrostPaw and FrostPaw loved CurlFeather. So to suddenly have CurlFeather be this evil manipulative woman who forced FrostPaw to become a medicine cat and she can never ever become redeemed feels.. like a major cop-out. How come FrostPaw can't still love her mother but feel conflicted about her as a person(cat) because of what she may have done to end up in hell? FrostPaw could lose a bit of respect for her mother, but never lose the love for her mother

And it's worth mentioning: CrowFeather physically hits and scolds BreezePelt, he neglects him and the only acknowledgement he has towards his son is about how he's horrible and his bitch mother coddled him too much. CrowFeather abuses BreezePelt; BreezePelt and his father then make up and are on good terms now despite all of the bad memories BreezePelt may have towards his father.

CurlFeather never once physically/verbally abused FrostPaw, she never neglected her or her siblings and she was encouraging. So then when CurlFeather is mauled to death and resides in Hell, how come suddenly FrostPaw doesn't want to be her daughter and hates her with a burning passion. The worst we can assume that CurlFeather has done towards FrostPaw is unintentionally make her feel a little pressured by expectations, ones that root from CurlFeather having a good heart, but getting them across improperly. How come we're supposed to see this as a "victim breaking away from their abuser" when there wasn't anything like that in the first place that even implied abuse? How is this supposed to be a triumphant moment for FrostPaw and not a sign of the double standard and terrible writing that the authors have implemented into her entire arc.

What is worth remembering is that you should take a step back and stop analyzing these characters as if they're real and start analyzing the differences in how characters like CrowFeather is treated vs how characters like CurlFeather are treated. One case, we read about their abuse of their child, and the other case we are just told "Oh yeah they pressured their child" without any previous mention or implication of that being the case. The books treat Love and Respect as the same when it comes to the relationship between a child and their parent(s). And in the end, they are writing devices for the authors to play around with and continue to write with a misogynistic mindset

i've actually had this ask half-answered in my drafts for like. literal years maybe LOL im so sorry anon i completely forgot about it But! in that amount of time some new books came out so i got new characters to add to the list at least!

(mild disclaimer I always kinda hesitate with questions like this because I think my memory of the books canon isn't great and i worry my perception is too coloured by whatever bits i come across in fanworks orz but thats ok canon character interactions are p sparse anyways lol)

mothpool! platonic is v sweet but romantic is soo good; ever since i saw the po3 au where trans moth is the three's parents instead of crow is WOAGH so cool!! Because Moth being the mother adds SO much to the canon narrative cause BAM lion is now related to tigerstar BAM jay's fear of water but also having a riverclan parent + he's a med cat like his two moms BAM holly's relationship with her apprentice willowshine could easily extend to unknowingly having a relationship Moth who's her mother n feeling triple betrayed!!!! +that time she snuck into riverclan camp!! n its fun how the two med cat moms ended up having both holly and jay wander down the med cat route

curlfeather who never leaves her daughter’s side, who lays with her when she’s grief stricken and mourning, who beams with pride at her warrior apprentice ceremony, who’s heart swells with joy finally seeing frostpaw able to live a normal, happy life without overwhelming responsibility…

curlfeather, who’s hatred for splashtail is so intense she could start forest fires wherever she walks from the rage and disgust burning through her veins, as she can do nothing but watch in horror as he almost murders her beloved kit. who cries and begs and yowls for anyone to save her little one, knowing no one can hear her.

who reluctantly leaves frostpaw’s side, knowing she won’t survive without immediate care, and races across the moorland, desperately searching for anyone who could help.

who finally finds whistlepaw, and uses all of her strength to send a strong gust of wind carrying several small, curled feathers rushing by the apprentice, urging her in the direction of where her baby lays bleeding out.

it is in that moment, where curlfeather lay exhausted and terrified beside her dying kit, that she wishes most intensely she could actually be there for her daughter. in that moment, curlfeather’s deepest desire is realized, if only for a few precious seconds, and frostpaw inhales a comforting scent she hasn’t in so long, before drifting uneasily into unconsciousness.

Warriors Animation Script - Drift Away (Cover by Chase Holfelder) - Frostpaw

Scene 1: Frostkit is playing with her mother in a little field of flowers, her mother testing her knowledge on them (“Here in the garden, let's play a game, I'll show you how it's done.”)

Scene 2: Flash forward to Frostkit sitting as still as possible next to her siblings for her apprentice ceremony, she's happy, her eyes shining. (“Here in the garden, stand very still…”)

Scene 3: Frostpaw looks up at Mothwing and says the next line: “This'll be so much fun!” Mothwing begins to smile, after a split second of apprehension (she's remembering Willowpaw) and Curlfeather laughs with pride. (“And then she smiled! That’s what I'm after: a smile in her eyes, the sound of her laughter.”)

Scene 4: Frostpaw follows Mothwing into the Medicine Cat den, looking behind her as Curlfeather sits down next to Splashtail and begins to whisper to him (“Happy to listen, happy to play, happily watching her drift away…”) As the line ends, the vines in front of the Medicine Den obscure Frostpaw's view, but a gray… Shape… appears next to Curlfeather, whose eyes gleam.

Scene 5: Frostpaw looks up at the sky as Riverclan performs Reedwhisker's funeral, she desperately searches the silent stars for an answer. (“Happily waiting, all on my own, under the endless sky…”) Curlfeather is watching in the background, her face neutral.

Scene 6: Frostpaw sits alone at the Moonpool, putting her paw into an ancient pawprint as she stares at the small, curled feather. (“Counting the seconds, standing alone, as thousands of years go by…”)

Scene 7: Frostpaw looks up at Curlfeather, nervous and hopeful. (“Happily wondering, night after night,”) she turns to Mothwing, who looks unsure, and concerned, and asks “Is this how it works? Am I doing this right?”

Scene 8: (“Happy to listen…”) Curlfeather yells at Frostpaw to run as a pack of dogs begins to chase them… The dogs appear more like a shadowy force than distinct animals.

Scene 9: (“Happy to stay…”) Curlfeather tells Frostpaw to stay, lip-synching the word 'stay' in the tree as the dogs close in…

Scene 10: ("Happily watching her drift… away…”) Frostpaw watches and screams as Curlfeather lets go of the tree trunk, falling slowly backwards towards the dog pack, they await her with open jaws, Curlfeather's expression is one of pure love.

Scene 11: Flash forward to Frostpaw being friends with Splashtail, she is telling him about a flower she is shredding up (the same flower Curlfeather quizzed her on), the same way she used to chat with her mom back in the beginning. He looks uninterested and bored. (“You keep on turning pages for people who don't care-”)

Scene 12: Frostpaw appoints Owlnose as leader, looking nervous. He looks terrified, while Duskfur, Mallownose, Splashtail and the others look on with small glares, glancing at each other. (“People who don't care, about you…”) Splashtail unsheathes his claws on the last note.

Scene 13: Frostpaw is a few feet away from the barn, looking into a puddle, post surgery. She tilts her head, seeing the scar Splashtail left her, and begins to tear up, curled feathers are sitting in the puddle too. (“And still it takes you ages, to see that no one's there-”) Frostpaw suddenly looks out at a very distant Riverclan patrol, her siblings playing around with each other. (-”see that no one's there, see that no one's there…”)

Scene 14: “Everyone's gone on, without you…” Frostpaw mumbles the words to herself, lip-synching can be loose to this, as she hardly believes it herself.

Scene 15: Later on, with Nightheart, Shadowsight, and Whistlepaw, Frostpaw sneaks to a Gathering when Splashstar announces his leader status, his head held high as his new leader mark shimmers, (“Finally something.”)

Scene 16: Mallownose is his deputy, Duskfur sitting with him, the two looking smug. (“Finally news.”)

Scene 17: Podlight as the new Medicine Cat, (“About how the story ends.”) Mistpaw is sitting off to the side, looking saddened.

Scene 18: Curlfeather is thought to be seen, but it's actually just the newly named Grayclaw, Frostpaw's brother, Curlfeather's image fades into him. ("She doesn't exist now, survived by her son,") His ears are beginning to curl. He looks triumphant and prideful next to Podlight.

Scene 19: The "camera" moves out to show them all stood at the center of the island, all the cats heavily involved with the new Splashstar. (“And all of her brand new… friends.”)

Scene 20: Frostpaw is now talking to Whistlepaw, Shadowsight, Sunbeam and Nightheart, all of whom are looking very sympathetic. She looks at them with a sarcastic, forced smile, tears in her eyes, she is shouting: “Isn't that lovely? Isn't that cool!?”

Scene 21: Frostpaw looks down and the ground, growing angry and more tearful, “And isn't that cruel!?” She stomps her foot into the dirt, her claws scraping into it, her fur bristling. “And aren't I a fool, to have…”)

Scene 22: Frostpaw looks out at the field of flowers. It's wilted. “Happily listened…”

Scene 23: The last brown leaf on the tree that Curlfeather fell from, the tree that saved her life, falls off. (“Happy to stay…”)

Scene 24: Frostpaw FINALLY begins to cry properly, blinking as the tears practically bubble up out of her. Sunbeam and Whistlepaw are shocked, Sunbeam starts to hold her close, Frostpaw's head on her shoulder, Whistlepaw stroking her back with one paw. (“Happily watching her drift…”)

Scene 25: Curlfeather's spirit appears. Her eyes are “dark forest style”, the sclera being black. She looks broken hearted, touching her nose to Frostpaw's whose eyes were closed. ("Drift...")

Scene 26: ("Drift...") Frostpaw's eyes open and she cries out, seeing her mother's spirit, and Curlfeather turns away out of shame, fading back into the Dark Forest. The gleam in her eye now falling as a single tear. ("Away.")

headcanons for characters with bird/feather/wing based names

-whitewing has winged shaped ears and I like to imagine she was called a 'little angel' (idk if the clan cats know what angels are)

-dovewing also inherited the wing shaped ears and she has wing shaped markings under her eyes

-curlfeather has feather like tufts on her ears which curl up slightly. I also like to imagine she has a fluffy tail that looks a bit like like a feather

-jayfeather found a blue jay's feather after his full medicine cat ceremony and he wore it as an accessory

-crowfeather also wears a crow feather as an accessory

-crowfeather found a silvery feather one day after the clans arrived at the lake and he tucked it in his nest since it reminded him of feathertail.

-goosefeather has fuzzy fur that stick out like geese feathers

Frostpaw designs, w/ and without scars!

I like huge scars lol. I gave it a square-ish shape since she’s been treated by twolegs. And I like simple shapes lol. I also have the star still present after the fur is gone, It isn’t uncommon for animals to have darker skin where they have darker fur. But its also symbolic, it seemed like there was just a star on the surface but after that layer was stripped away it seem its there too.

The mask seems to be a fandom-decided trait of Frostpaw’s lol but I think i fits her. She’s been in the dark about everything so far. And im going to have her inherit it from evil mommy dearest too

Curlfeather is going to have a feather marking on her cheek, but on frostpaw it could either be a feather… or a leaf.

a starless clan thunder excerpt spoilers

one theory that i came up with for this arc was that curlfeather managed to make up signs or dreams that frostpaw had as a kit in order for her to become a medicine cat apprentice. which then curlfeather would become a leader by faking the star-shaped leaf and the "curled feather" sign. but the wording in the prologue seems to disprove that? at the very least riverstar did something to influence frostpaw becoming a medicine cat.
