these damn battle cats occupy my brain too much. mostly silly, sometimes serious, sometimes brambleclaw thoughts.

We now have official information on Moonpaw!
She is a chimera cat with heterochromia and the daughter of Bayshine and Thriftear, named because her face looks like a half moon!

currently, we dont know anything about moonpaw. we dont know her parents, what clan shes in, or what medicine cat shes apprenticed to. but imagine if we never got the blurb for changing skies at all and we went into the first book not knowing about moonpaw's existence at all? like, literally where did this cat come from? how is she suddenly a medicine cat? why did the erins create a character out of thin air?
slowly as we come to terms with moonpaw as a pov character in her chapters, we would also get to know her through tawnypelt's and leafstar's chapters. but as the first book goes on there are subtle inconsistencies with what goes on in moonpaw's head and what she tells the clan cats. perhaps shes scared of telling the clans the truth of where shes from or shes intentionally misguiding them for some plan she keeps hidden, even from the readers?
i think she had a TON of potential to be a very ambiguous character if she was introduced this way and im kind of disappointed that she wasnt
#warrior cats#moonpaw#ive been thinking about this for a few days and i needed to get it out there#one other idea i had was sol being moonpaw's father#a villain medicine cat pov character would go so hard

tbh theres something very interesting about darktail going to the dark forest, which implies that he believed in starclan and followed the faith. how that could have influenced his actions, how he couldve taken heart of the ugliest parts of the code, making him a bitter reflection of the clans. they can claim hes an outsider who never understood them all they want while he preaches their sermons back at them. its easier, isnt it? to distance him as far away from their culture as possible? but he haunts the dark forest just as much as tigerstar did. hes a starclan-made monster just as much as the rest of them.

Warriors: Changing Skies #1 - The Elders' Quest
The launch of a brand-new arc in Erin Hunter’s #1 bestselling Warriors series find the Clans navigating an ominous prophecy that foreshadows the destruction of the Moonpool, and the end of the Cats' connection to StarClan.
As Leafbare approaches, a new danger threatens the Clans. Twoleg construction has encroached on Clan territory, poisoning the stream and making prey especially scarce for SkyClan. Meanwhile, their leader, Leafstar is struggling with a loss of vision while trying maintain authority over a Clan that increasingly doubts her ability to lead.
In ShadowClan, Tawnypelt senses peril as the Twoleg construction threatens the Moonpool, but she can’t get anycat, especially her son, Tigerstar, to listen. Frustrated with the younger cats who don't respect her, she decides to take matters into her own paws.
In the midst of the chaos, Moonpaw, an apprentice struggling to understand the mysterious voice in her head, thinks that she might be having visions. But the voice becomes increasingly sinister, and Moonpaw wonders if’s a sign of darkness on the horizon.
Cats shown: Leafstar (center), Tawnypelt, and Crowfeather (top).

The blurb and cover for Changing Skies 1: The Elders’ Quest has been revealed!!
Leafstar is losing her vision, Tawnypelt goes on a quest as twoleg construction threatens the Moonpool, and one of our protagonists is named Moonpaw. It seems we could be in for a small time jump.

this implies that a cat's voice doesn't come naturally with its body, which means that ashfur has been doing a perfect bramblestar impression the entire time hes been in bramble's body

finished wind and i think it was great! i really hope they dont fumble the last book or else this arc could surpass the first for my favorite arc.
im glad the writing team is finally producing a consistently great arc that doesn't fizzle out on the 4th book. there have been a few bumps here and there but I really do enjoy this arc.
minor spoilers below
my biggest complaint about the book, and the arc so far, is that sunbeam is just BARELY becoming relevant to the main plot of the arc. considering where berryheart ends up at the end of wind i hope sunbeam is heavily involved.
i 100% believe this line from splashtail actually comes directly from the writers as a dig on how riverclan was never relevant to any arc once the clans moved to the lake and also a self dig on the writers for never including riverclan in anything.
as of wind, i think the writing team is becoming more self-aware of how they write these books and are remembering that the past arcs exist as half of a nightheart chapter is spent with the elders as they tell stories about the sun-drown-place journey, firestar's quest, bramblestar's storm and tigerstar 1.
