Todays Technology Effects
Getting the most out of our tech tools Technology is a critical component of our world today. From communication and time management to manufacturing and healthcare, tech tools have an enormous impact on our lives. And for students at UA Grantham, it’s also what allows them to find success in school no matter where they are located.
There’s always a tradeoff, of course, and sometimes it feels like our technology is taking over our lives. Let’s take a look at the good, the bad, and the ugly sides of technology today—and how we can make sure that we’re getting the most out of these tools without falling into some common traps.
The Good Let’s start with the benefits that technology offers us. There is no question that we’re more connected than ever before, which means that most of our family, friends, coworkers, and loved ones are just a text, call, email, or video chat away. Stop and appreciate this for a moment! As difficult as being apart, for any reason, can be, we can still talk in real time with those who matter most.
That also means we don’t have to relinquish many of our routines, no matter what else is going on in the world. Technology allows us to keep working, communicating, going to school, shopping, going to doctor or therapy appointments, playing games, and staying aware of current events.
And it allows us to do so with even more ease: Google’s product suite, for instance, can help you write, format, present, calculate, collaborate, remind, and share all from one platform alone. The resources available today have made it possible to easily learn, share, and create in a truly global environment.
Technology allows students to watch lectures, participate in discussion groups, complete assignments, and earn their degrees from the comfort of their own homes. Online learning platforms make it possible to skip the commute to campus, eliminate the need for exams by mail, and improve efficiency.
The Bad The benefits of technology are genuinely incredible, but there can be too much of a good thing. Our hyperconnectivity means we may have difficulty disconnecting or creating space to unwind. That can lead to feelings of stress or exhaustion and make it harder to truly relax when we need that rest. If you could be working, studying, or catching up all the time, how do you know when to stop? Creating boundaries and promoting mindfulness are critical for giving ourselves the space and time our mental health deserves.
It's also important to be aware of the potential physical consequences from 24/7 connectivity. Eyestrain, hand or wrist pain, and sleep deprivation are common symptoms when spending so much time on our devices or in front of screens. Text neck, Blackberry thumb, and other overuse injuries are becoming increasingly more prevalent, which means it is critical to give your body a break and invest in your long-term health—particularly if you’re spending time on screens for work, entertainment, and school.
Going to school in a digital environment can exacerbate these trends, putting students at added risk for physical injuries even when it feels like a sedentary activity. Look for ways to optimize your study time, which can help you ensure you’re getting the most out of your screen time. UA Grantham offers a host of student support services, including tutoring, advising, and technology help, that can help you avoid spending too much extra time in virtual spaces.
The Ugly Unfortunately, there are even more severe risks out there when so much of our time is spent in virtual spaces. The sense of anonymity we have online, or of feeling slightly removed from the situation when behind a keyboard, can lead to saying things we wouldn’t ordinarily say in a face-to-face situation. Coupled with the ability to share information in record time, this can quickly create uncomfortable and even dangerous situations. It’s important to give yourself mindful space away from virtual environments (and time to process painful feelings when they arise).
The spread of misinformation or outright lies, the prevalence of bullying and cyber attacks, and other unpleasantries are all common side effects of our cyberspace—and they can lead to anxiety, depression, addiction, and other mental health disorders. Social media alone has had a dramatic impact on feelings of self-worth, success, and inclusion and belonging, and those feelings carry into our real worlds. Be cautious about what you consume and avoid taking every piece of information you see at face value.
The Balance As they say, everything in moderation. There are some truly wonderful tools out there, and you don’t have to delete your accounts or throw your computer out the window in order to have a positive relationship with technology. All you really need is to set some healthy boundaries!
Try charging your phone outside the bedroom so it’s not the first thing you look at in the morning. Practice turning off your devices during mealtimes or while exercising. Set time limits for your computer, tablet, or TV. Turn off notifications on your mobile tech so you’re less likely to pick it up as often. Create clear boundaries for when you plan to study and when it’s time to take a break. Consider whether there are some analog tools that help you learn better than their online counterparts, such as taking handwritten notes rather than typing them. Experiment and see what works—and feels—best for you.
Most importantly, check in with yourself regularly to see how you’re feeling. Take a moment to ask yourself: Am I really benefiting from using this piece of technology? Am I using this tool mindfully and how it was intended, or has it taken on a life of its own? Am I getting more out of it than I’m spending—in time, money, or energy? If you’re getting your online degree at UA Grantham, take advantage of your dedicated student advisor’s one-on-one support. They will help you time manage your technology and focus to meet your personal goals.

thinking abt time lord funeral practices. thinking abt how literally can’t leave their dead lying around the universe or they’ll be bought up for experimentation or novelty, thinking abt how the doctor is charged with bringing the master’s remains back to gallifrey
#their particular brand of isolationism fascinates me cause it’s not illogical. they have fair reasons to keep themselves apart from#the universe. And happen to be assholes about it too#whenever they get into 3rd dimensional scuffles with the daleks it must be someone’s job to round up and destroy all the stray bits#of flesh and blood. the daleks would love to have those#I love anything that reinforces their paranoia ❤️ victimizes them when they lack the advantage of their technology ❤️

#dedenne#beep beep beep beep… phone's ringing it's dedenne from the expedition society#she's here to tell you about some more danger#uh oooooohhh#i think that's what it does. right? beep beep beep. something like that#i don't remember if she's like. calling through the connection orb or just beaming herself into everyone's heads#or if they're wearing earpieces or some shit but the connection orb is the most technological advancement we've seen in all of pmd#and it's only at the expedition society. they're holding all this proprietary tech for themselves and keeping it from the rest of the world#so they can continue to have the advantage. the only organization with the lapras liner to have access to the entire rest of the world#truly a megacorporation of our time

genuinely not to be a dick but i kind of wonder if the QSMP would’ve gone in a different direction if quackity… had played on it more. like, i’ll give the benefit of the doubt that he wasn’t online so infrequently entirely by choice— but things like the purgatory event(lorewise), the map reset, the introduction of an economy that puts items previously gained through labor behind an immovable paywall… would these things have been approved in a world where the owner of the server was an active player? i don’t think it would’ve solved the labor issues, but there’s also room to consider that it would’ve made quackity more accessible, too, to possibly have these issues brought to him sooner if someone was brave enough. i dunno. probably not worth theorizing about at this point, but… i started doing it anyways
#txt#specified lorewise for purgatory because despite how the fandom got i think the purgatory EVENT was a fun idea#like purgatory 2 was cool! it’s a fun idea to have extra events that take advantage of the qsmp’s technology#it’s just the purgatory 1 was fucking random TT__TT and so weirdly tied in to the lore

look i understand that ai generated content is a controversial topic, and ultimately protecting artists' intellectual property should take moral priority, but i feel like when people say "you don't want character.ai you want to rp with someone" they're kinda missing the point because unlike a chatbot, you can't exactly look your rp partner in the eye and say "that sucked ass. do that again"
#i mean you can but you won't have an rp partner by the end of it!!!#like there's a very specific perk that's being catered to here by removing human interaction#and that is. compromising and cordiality#although i do agree with the general sentiment behind those posts. as in these technologies ARE taking advantage of a very real phenomenon#where people are becoming increasingly lonely and antisocial and afraid of vulnerability in peer-to-peer interaction#anyway if you want some really good opinion pieces on this go read ted chiang's essays on ai for the new yorker#and also the interview he did for the financial times

#me with any character i like: right but what if they went to scouts camp#i dont have a very fleshed out image of bertie as a teenager though so idk#and im also not big on fic writing so thisll only live in my brain#but yeah#currently imagining him in a scouts uniform#jeeves and wooster#bertie wooster#ok this is literally just for me bc this is about german scouting groups#but i feel like bertie wouldve been in the dpsg and jeeves in the bdp#and theyd always argue about it bc jeeves is convinced that the bdp is the Only Proper Scouting and bertie would be like#You Sleep On Sheep Skins#Why Use Actual Fire Torches If You Have The Advantages Of Modern Technology#(this is anachronistic ik. i just have Opinions on the bdp)

omw to designing proginetor!faruzan to match kaveh...
(read tags if you wanna know more)
#ok ok it's not JUST that#I think she'd fit the world very nicely#like in canon she's already studied in the field of mechanics so why not go off that?#maybe she works along side kaveh for the more technical parts since his concepts can be pretty creative#or like she's able to decode ancient machinery and used those to their advantage#(this is extreme copium but like technology's kind of her thing what it she was onscreen too?)#(atleast I think she's a better choice than adding alhaitham just cause kaveh is there#rambling#kaveh#faruzan#kavefaru#proginetor#lk I have more to say but I don't wanna clutter the tags😭

How Sarah J Maas treats humans in relation with the immortal species in her books makes me think she doesn't consider why humans are the way we are and that we would indeed have advantages over immortal and technically more physically durable beings.
#voice of the lost#anti sjm#sjm critical#anti acotar#even the waxing poetic about feyres human heart doesn't feel like it understands why thats an advantage for humans#its because we're pack animals#there's safety in packs and being able to form connections with other creatures improves capabilities and survival#also why the hell do the fae seem more technologically advanced than the humans#they're supposedly super powerful what evolutionary pressures are there for them to technologically innovate#are the courts beyond the wall a very bizarre and specific ecological niche#etc etc

let's discuss something.
do you see how amanda in my drawing is nearly identical in color to the reference photo i've used? that's how it should be when you're drawing a black character. unless there are very significant lighting changes that you're portraying, the character's skin color will not drastically change. a black character will not turn white. their hair type and texture stay the same, as well.
do not whitewash black characters.
it's a very easy concept.
#i promise you. it is very simple.#there are zero reasons why i should be seeing artwork that portrays her with extremely light/white skin.#if you're unsure about something then please use technology to your advantage.#don't half-ass black characters.#charrator

THE CURSE!! My best friend The Curse!!!
#no but seriously the curse its a perfect episode: it had imo the BEST action sequence in the entire show (the 70s vampires attack)#we see guillermo actively fighting vampires for the first time#the vampires storyline with the bloody mary mails its one of their funniest#i loved when the vampires were really stupid with technology instead of randomly dropping modern references like in the newer seasons#colin being a lil shit and taking advantage of the vampires ignorance#and this is kinda dumb but also it had my favorite ending song#asks

7 Effective Ways to Boost Your Organic Social Media Reach as a Remodeler or Custom Builder
As a remodeler or custom builder, you want to make sure your social media posts are reaching as many eyes as possible. You’ve likely already put a lot of effort into perfecting your website design and content, so now it’s time to focus on growing your organic social media reach. Here are 7 effective ways to give your reach a boost.
The world of organic social media reach for remodelers and custom builders can be a tough one to crack. You want to make sure your social media posts are reaching as many eyes as possible, but you also don’t want to spend a fortune on ads. The good news is, there are a few effective ways to boost your organic social media reach without breaking the bank.
Here are 7 effective ways to give your reach a boost:
1. Use social media scheduling tools
When you’re running a business and need to keep your social media channels current, using social media scheduling tools can save you time and ensure your posts are updated regularly. Social media scheduling tools help you plan your posts ahead of time so that you don’t have to worry about posting manually on different social media platforms every day.
You can plan content for multiple channels, such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and more. Scheduling tools can even automate posts and help you tailor your content to the right audience. This way, you can reach a wider audience, enhance engagement and boost organic reach.
The use of social media scheduling tools can help you save time and be more efficient with your social media management. Additionally, by consistently and regularly updating your social channels, you can boost your organic reach and keep your followers interested in your content.
2. Use hashtags thoughtfully
Hashtags can be very beneficial to your organic social media reach. Hashtags help your content reach the right people and even become viral. When used effectively, hashtags can make your content go viral and attract a larger audience. If you are remodeling or custom building in a specific area or have a target audience, hashtags can be useful for many reasons.
The use of targeted hashtags can help you boost your organic reach as it will speak directly to your target audience. Keeping your hashtags consistent with your content could generate more organic likes and shares, which leads to more organic followers.
Using hashtags thoughtfully is essential when you want to boost organic reach. Especially when you use hashtags associated with the local area you are remodeling or custom-building in. Also, if you create content focused on renovation or custom-building tips, using hashtags with similar topics can be very beneficial to expanding your organic reach.
3. Collaborate with other businesses or influencers in your industry
Collaborating with other businesses or influencers in the same industry could help you reach a wider audience and boost your organic social media reach. Collaborations with businesses can help you cross-promote content, leverage each other’s followers, and create exclusive content together.
Similarly, partnering with an influencer in the custom building and remodeling industry can help you reach influencers’ followers and generate more organic shares for your content.
When creating collaborations with businesses or influencers, make sure both sides benefit from them. The influencers should be paid for their work, even if it’s only a token of appreciation. Otherwise, it could backfire and damage your reputation. On top of that, influencers should use authentic copy, unique visuals, and relevant hashtags when promoting your content. The right hashtag combinations used effectively can be a great help to your organic social media reach.
4. Take advantage of user-generated content
User-generated content is another great way to boost your organic social media reach as a remodeler or custom builder. User-generated content is any content that has been created by your followers and published on your page.
It can come in many forms: posts, photos, hashtags, reviews, and video. It helps you connect with potential customers better, build trust, and boost your brand awareness. On top of that, user-generated content can create more organic shares and significantly increase your organic social media reach.
Encouraging your followers to share their experiences and content with your brand is key to leveraging this type of content. To make it easier, use relevant hashtags and create contests, challenges, and ask questions. People love to share their opinions and experiences, and this way, you can get them to create content for your brand and help to amplify your message.
