animated The Outer Limits (1963) ant mutant (episode 14 - The Zanti Misfits)                                      dir. by Leonard Horn
In an arrangement with the Planet Zanti, the US Government has agreed to harbor their society's exiled undesirables. Everything is on track until a would-be Bonnie and Clyde (Olive Deering and Bruce Dern) crash through the barricades in the cordoned off area and run face first into the extraterrestrial Misfits.                                            (from wearecontrollingtransmission.blogspot)

Stop-motion animator Jim Danforth’s Zanti Misfits from “The Outer Limits” still look creepy in 2018 and must have seemed even more so in 1963.

My personal theory is that some more advanced species is using Earth as a prison colony, dumping their undesirables naked and panicked into what amounts to a hellscape for them.
I like it because it turns a movie that is ostensibly "monsters from space are gonna getcha" to " the colonial practices inflicted by humans that considered themselves technologically superior against those they deemed lesser are inflicted upon humanity as a whole by aliens that do not even consider human civilization worthy of anything other than a convenient place to dispose of the unwanted elements of their own society." Also undertones of "prisoners of an uncaring system are dumped into hellish conditions they are unprepared to navigate and considered to be monsters by the populace at large" in order to mirror what our own criminal justice system routinely does to people.
Something especially ominous about the notion that this alien society has crossed vast distances of space with technology we can't even comprehend and they're a danger to us simply because they don't care about us.

Okay, when I saw this as a kid - in afternoon reruns, of course - it scared the bejeezus out of me. Tame by comparison to today, it still gave me nightmares back then.

It was Sideshow Collectibles that made BTVS and Angel 12 inch figures. My personal favorite made by that company was Zanti Misfits from the original Outer Limits series. They made quite a few figures of the various BTVS characters. They have cloth outfits which means you can sew custom little outfits for them. BTW, you could also get a figure of Guillermo del Toro.
I saw a couple of them when I was digging and chuckling at the curiosity of BtVS-verse figures (there are so many? and some of the sculpts are so weird?). Beyond one of Angel and punk Spike I didn’t look too closely, they were kind of cool but ridiculously priced and I’m not into collecting enough to go for them 😅

Inktober Monsters Of Television Day 18: “The Zanti Misfits” Today’s prompt was “Misfit”. In 1963, the sci-fi anthology series The Outer Limits loosed this human-faced ant creature, THE ZANTI, upon us. It’s an amazing episode. Earth makes a deal to receive prisoners from an alien race, The Zanti. The Zanti are morally incapable of executing their own criminals so they send them to us like on off-planet prison. And, like humans do... fear and confusion gets the better of them and they begin to attack the Zanti prisoners. The show ends with the Zanti making a chilling assessment of humanity, “we are incapable of executing our own species—but you are not. You are practiced executioners. We thank you.” . . . . #inktober #inktober2019 #inktoberday19 #inktober2019day19 #inktober2019day19 #misfit #halloween #horror #art #ink #drawing #illustration #sketch #artist #inked #artwork #illustration #artistsoninstagram #drawings #inkdrawing #theouterlimits #zanti #zantimisfit #zantimisfits #thezantimisfits #alien #monster https://www.instagram.com/p/B3ydGuElBMo/?igshid=1pjy691fyl18o
