Located in southwestern Oklahoma, The Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge has protected habitats since 1901. The refuge hosts a great diversity of plant, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians and assorted mammals. Its area of undisturbed mixed grass prairie make it an important conservation area. The Wichitas are approximately 500 million years old.

Joyland Amusement Park of Wichita, Kansas operated for 55 years before closing permanently in 2006. The park featured a wooden roller coaster and 15 attractions, including the Whacky Shack, Dodgem bumper cars and Louie the Clown.

Attempts were made to revive the park but financial difficulties prevented its reopening. Since then, Joyland deteriorated, facing vandalism, looting, and several fires. In 2018, the mostly vacant property was purchased by an anonymous buyer for $198,000. Joyland’s time has officially come to an end. Sources 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

liza wanders through the mist into a town. she knows they shouldn’t wander so much with how easily she gets lost, but it’s the weekend, and julian’s at a playdate, so she gives herself some grace. the dark fog curls around her body as she strolls through this town, not planning on talking to anyone. unfortunately, their plans often go awry.

Wichita doesn't come back from her wanderings for a damn long while. She sees no reason to. But somehow, returning to find out her therapist has died and many of her childhood friends have flown their coops is not the worst news in the world.

Tonight, she's grocery shopping, well past when anyone sane would be up, picking through the racks for food and paying with money that isn't hers. This'll never get old.

There is someone behind her, and she knows at a glance that they don't have enough money, so she lets a wad of cash fall from her pocket and hopes they get the hint.

All aboard the Train to Wichita! The crank-to-read miniature book in a model train written and designed by Peter and Donna Thomas that is.

This book, comprised of 3 color-illustrated scrolls in the rear compartment of an altered model train was originally designed for an exhibit at the Wichita Art Museum in Wichita, Kansas. One scroll tells the story of the arrival of the train in Wichita written by Peter, while the two others contain lyrics to the songs “The Old Chisholm Trail” and “On the Atchison, Topeka, and the Santa Fe.” All three scrolls were hand illustrated by Donna. Special Collections and Archives is happy to own one of only twenty functioning copies.
