 Duke is kind of confused. Scratch that he’s very confused. And concerned. More concerned than confused actually. Like Bruce is back from apparently being lost in time, sweet! That’s great! 

 But uh, should he be concerned about the several ghost children now following him around? Should he mention it? Bruce has to know, right? Like he’s half certain that one just picked up a book right in front of him and dropped it in his lap, so Bruce isn’t oblivious right?

A lot of people make John kinda a wuss and crying through the entire game and while I hold that interpretation of John close and dear to my heart I think there's a significant lack of Tired John. He's had a rough year and he just wants to make things right after his mistakes. And despite how deep in shit he gets he keeps going. Past the harm that comes to him and the life he had managed to build.

The whole game is about him repenting which led to my headcanon-if-it's-not-already-canon that he low-key thinks he deserves what he gets. No matter what gets thrown at him he'll persevere even to unhealthy amounts. So the quote "So be it" as he gives up his crucifix to continue his journey always struck me as a good summation of his character. It doesn't mean he's not scared- I just think he's more resigned to his fate and ready to fight than most people give him credit for.

Art fully inspired by @senjiiblogs sketches of John with a prosthetic eye. I just think the idea is neat and it made me wanna draw him ^_^
