I've been playing universim. It's gorgeous. But it takes sooooo long. I've been playing for 2 days and I still haven't gotten into space. There's a bunch of stuff I wanna do there so I'm not giving up, but I'm talking like 2 8 hour days of this game. You have to earn research points and then spend 10 to 20 minutes researching it. Sometimes, and I don't know why, all of your power generating devices will just stop doing that, or your batteries will just not charge. It's tracking a lot of stuff and sometimes a character or two will just slip off into nothingness. I'll be watching a guy heading somewhere with the supplies I need to build something and he'll walk behind another building and never come out again. I looked on the forums and it seems to be one of the most common complaints, having to go thru all of human evolution everytime you start a new world. It would be nice if they would bookmark you at a certain tech tier if you unlock everything for that tier and maybe do a little extra or something. But I guess it kinda makes sense? You never stop needing wood and stone. Every tier of technology is just reprocessing everything you made at the lower tier. Like one steel bar is like 600 stone and 100 oil. This is not a real number I'm just exaggerating for effect.

it's funny that the best christian games are not billed as christian games. In the Universim you play as God, start with an Adam and an Eve (not their name, but you can see the inspiration), and help humanity into the present day using your god powers. The opening cutscene is basically "let there be light," but it's the big bang. I'm not a practicing christian, but it's hard to ignore.
What's nice is that it's not in your face about it. It's not cringe. It doesn't quote scripture at me. It's cartoony and cute and child friendly. It's a game that I could recommend to kids without worrying about pissing off conservative parents.
I dunno I just thought that was neat.

Looking forward to... in 2024
We have just moved on from 2023 to 2024 and the next new game releases are already around the corner! It actually feels like there are a lot of games going to release in the first couple of months of 2024 that I am interested in. In theory, this is great. But since time is a limited resource (as is money to buy said games), it’s not as great as it sounds when you are like me and can’t prioritize.…

📩 Simblr question of the day: A non-sims simblr question/s! Besides Sims, what other games do you play and what platforms do you like to play on? (PC, Console, Mobile...) What would genre/s do you tend to lean towards? (FPS, Sandbox, Multiplayer, Simulation, etc.)
Bonus! If a game has character customization, do you like to make a completely new character everytime or do you like to use the same OC/Sim?
Feel free to ramble, especially if you really enjoy a game (❁´◡`❁)
Alright, here we go! For context I didn't grow up with a gaming console of any kind, it was a laptop or nothing until the PS5 came out and I could just afford it.
PC Games
I love the Dragon Age games! I play the first and third as self insert most of the time but I have to play Dragon Age 2 as a male Hawke romancing Fenris because my brain will only allow that combo
Planet Zoo is fun, but I play that one in bursts here and there
In my not up to being fabulous mental state I am also playing the Universim at the moment which has been nice and distracting. I've also purchased Stardew Valley to try
I mostly go for RPG that are not first person because I get motion sick in first person. I'm also not big on games that involve shooting. The Horizon games with a bow and arrow is probably the closest I get
PS5
Disney Dreamlight Valley because I'm a Disney girl
The Quarry and the Dark Pictures Anthology, which is odd since I hate horror movies, I guess I can deal since the blood is not real
Forspoken is my favourite PS5 game. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course. My opinion is that people were knowingly or unknowingly being racist when they complained that Frey is "grumpy" or "angry". If she was white she would have been correctly labelled an antihero faster than you could blink. Look at her past properly and tell me why she should volunteer to help people she barely knows rather than try get home to her cat. It's called having a character arc people, if she instantly wanted to help it would be weird. I'll end my rant for now.

The worthy successor of Spore, at least in the Space Stage, is No Man's Sky. It had a rough launch and it's not exactly the same ideal, but it achieved everything Spore set to do in that regard and more. I'm still holding out hope that one day there will be something to rival the creature creator, and someday, perhaps a true evolution simulator with the history of Earth iin the spirit of Sim Earth (the ones that already exist are too abstract, limited (fucking Universim) or are fucking clicker mobile games)
But Spore itself, that was a project that only a guy like Will Wright could lead and keep alive so long. There won't be anything like it anymore, not in a long time.
