Yeah sorry we turned your boyfriend into fertiliser. Yeah he was being too rebellious and threatening the status quo of our beige suburban gated community, so yeah we went ahead and mulched him. Yeah you’re getting mulched too since you found out what we were up to and tried to escape, sorry. We pretend to be some sort of rehabilitation program for wayward teens but in practice we just… we really just like turning people into fertiliser. What can we say. In fairness the whole setting should have been a tip off from the get-go that there was something sinister going on, because there’s always something sinister going on in this kind of over-the-top white-picket-fence “wholesome” 50’s American picture postcard suburbia kind of setting. It just… it lends itself to social commentary really well, yeah. (Sorry.) And of course there’s all that scope for contrast between all the bright colours and sunshine and tidiness and veneer of politeness and the horrors lurking under the surface, yeah. We turned yer mum into a robot while we were at it too. Yeah, a fifties housewife sort of robot, yeah. Sorry about that. Yeah we’re using an outdated meme to talk about a show remake from 2002 that we only just caught up on, and then to lose the thread and try to make a wider point about a specific horror genre, yeah. And your boyfriend’s still fertiliser, sorry. His tree’s looking great though, if that makes you feel any better. Really verdant.

I’ll always be impressed by the fact that someone actually did a near-complete POV video of Tower of Terror in 1994.  Not only is it a drop ride, but video cameras in 1994 were...not convenient nor especially durable in that era.

The Billy Joel dance sequence occurs in the episode where it’s revealed that [spoiler] Bruce Willis got epic divorced because his wife was a lesbian and then it was never mentioned ever again

A black man begs Matt McGreevey for a ride in his car since he is being pursued by someone, but Matt refuses and drives on, and sees him being attacked by a gang behind him. That night, Matt suffers several wounds he can't explain to his wife, and the next morning appears to have gained a tan overnight and learns that the man, a college professor named John Woodrell, was beaten to death in a hate-crime. His family and friends point out he didn't know who the man was or why he was running, but Matt, defensive about not being racist, still regrets not helping him since he knows why he didn't stop. It may be too late, though, since his skin continues to darken until he's mistaken for a mixed, then an African-American, man, then he looks exactly like the victim...
