The Times of Harvey Milk (1984). A documentary of the successful career and assassination of San Francisco's first elected gay city supervisor.

A powerful testament to empathy, representation and community, while also being a powerful indictment of individualism and the US justice system. Just a really excellent, affecting documentary. 8/10.

#63 - The Times of Harvey Milk

First off - Dan White can burn in hell forever, the whiny little rat bastard.

I would hope, by now, everyone knows how much I love my gay history. Harvey Milk is one of my personal heroes, so of course I had to watch this. Unfortunately, I think this is something I would have benefited from watching many years ago, before ingesting as much queer history as I have now. It's not that it's bad, it just wasn't what I needed. It's like Queer History 101, and I'm in advanced classes at this point.

On a purely stylistic level, however, it's a gem. Harvey Fierstein is a warm, gentle narrator, and goddamn did the ending make me cry like a little baby. Like, I knew it was coming. I was prepared. But the crime only being a few years old at the time this film was made, so everyone involved still had very raw emotions attached to it? Ouchies.

It's a little lean for me, but I wholly recommend watching it.

most, if not all, pride flags were based on the original pride flag, created by gilbert baker at the request of harvey milk, a jewish man who was the first openly gay politician in california. if your flag has stripes and colors, it was based on that first original rainbow flag. they are symbols meant to celebrate who we are and make us visible to the public. who fucking cares if one striped flag looks kinda similar to another striped flag? genuinely why is this something we're devoting even a second of our valuable time to? "we can care abt multiple things at once!" not if one of them is fucking stupid and a waste of time, and is actively driving rifts in the community that's currently in the national spotlight in many countries! shut the fuck up! why am i seeing ppl w "support xenogenders and neopronouns! fuck te/rfs and truscum!" in their bios go on multi-post tirades abt fucking flags!

Every year on May 22nd, we celebrate the life and legacy of civil rights activist Harvey Milk. 🕊️

Harvey Milk became one of the first openly gay elected officials in the United States when he was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977. During a time of widespread hostility and discrimination, Milk’s leadership gave hope to the LGBTQ community. He was tragically assassinated in 1978, but his legacy continues and he inspired a generation of leaders and activists.

I think a " No Robins" AU would be really cool, because while yes, there's no Batman without Robin, can you IMAGINE the cuteness?

By " no robin" I don't mean the boys (Dick and Jason, but later everyone else) stay home, completely unaware of their Goth rat father fighting crime. They absolutely know he's batman and they ABSOLUTELY want kicks in.

Bruce shrugs, patting Dick on the back, " You owe me therapy money,"

Harley and Ivy "fight" the birds a lot, but it's just Harley complimenting and hyping up Dick's gymnastics while Ivy swings them around with vines like carnival rides,

When Harley's "arrested", she pulls Bruce aside and is like, " Hey, maybe look into ADHD and autism, pretty sure they all have it, "

" Impossible? That's genetic. I have neither."

" ...1) They're adopted. 2) I have some news for you."

Harvey WILL kill Bruce on sight if he ever tells ANYONE he helped Jason and Tim tie him up with jumping cords. It's already bad enough that video of him slipping on bubblegum bombs (deactivated) is viral
