some. kind of idea. I might try and tackle next year. tragically, I need to do research on the medieval economy lmao

the first knight is the youngest of the pair, eager for war glory. the priest is thinking of murdering him on his return. the eldest brother is thinking of deserting the army en route for a coastal fishing village where no one will know his name.

the statue with all the swords is our lady of sorrows, traditionally fashioned with seven swords. I've decided to do three on each side and the seventh held in front instead of the usual 3 on one side and 4 on the other split I see so that it matches that other panel's sword/hand position :)))

Don't want to put this on the post itself for risk of derailing it, but that post the other day about Terry Pratchett's early work really stuck in my mind. OP had sent in an ask saying that they heard some of Pratchett's earlier works had problematic elements (not unusual for a male english writer in the 80s) and they weren't sure whether to go ahead with reading the work anyway.

What I really want to ask that person, or indeed all persons who are hesitating over whether or not to read problematic works or works by imperfect authors:

What are you worried about happening, if you read a work with problematic elements?

I'm worried that if I read this art, I will run across hateful images or words that will shock or upset me

I'm worried that I will spend money on a work of art that then financially supports a bad person, and that thought makes me uncomfortable or upset

I'm worried that I will read works of art written by a bad person, and comment or react on them, and other people will see what I am reading and will think less of me because of it, or will assume that I hold the same bad beliefs as the author

I'm worried that I will read works of art written by a bad person, and I will enjoy them, and the author will find out about my enjoyment and feel emboldened to do bad things because of it

I'm worried that I will read works of art written by a bad person, and their badness will contaminate my way of thinking and make me a worse person in turn

Because these are all different answers and some of them are more actionable than others

#salty sunday #for the first: it's up to you whether you want to take that risk but keep in mind you can always stop if you feel discomfort.#this isn't school and nobody is going to require a book report from you on it #for the second: whether the author is even still alive let alone receiving proceeds from the work is something you can check on #if they're a more classic author and their estate/family is still getting proceeds you can decide whether you feel the issues of the author #are something worth punishing their family over #for the third: you can't control what other people think. don't try.#for the fourth: the author is gonna think and do whatever they think and do entirely independent of the response of the audience #assuming they even found out what you think ever which is very unlikely. see above about not being able to control what other people think #for the fifth: moral contamination is not a thing. kick the little fascist voice out of your head. be free

Interesting how I almost always deviate from my own personality when writing the readers in my fics.

#since i usually see people basing the readers in xreader fics on themselves in terms of responses and reactions #but i've always found it difficult to project myself into fics #certain philosophies. maybe. but in terms of distinct character traits? nah #harmonysan.txt #the only one i can do that with is sunday and he is an independent character lol

I posted my latest Xal story on 11/30, and I am now thinking about making the sixth installment a multichapter. I am hoping to post another oneshot on or around 11/06 for a fandom I used to post in a lot. Right now, only one of the three fanfiction sites I post on (AO3, ff.net, wattpad) has a story from this fandom; that’s how long it’s been. But I revamped an old story, and I’m excited to post it and maybe reach some new readers!

I also got some work done on Sparkling Eyes and Cigarette Burns. We’ve got two chapters to go, and honestly, the last chapter is going to be more of a very short epilogue that leads into the third story, which will be coming in the future, though I don’t know when. I hope to get this chapter up soon, and I’ll keep you posted!

AND, on 11/13, we get the debut of Rehearsing Tragedies! I am so excited about this. I cannot express in words how much fun I’ve been having writing a completely feral Slave!Castiel who just wants to rip out Sam and Dean’s jugulars with his teeth. In this universe, Hell got Lucifer out while the angels remained entirely uninvolved, but Lucifer cast the angels out of Heaven before the Winchesters took care of him. This would be around Season 3, with Hell freeing Lucifer without the methods used in the show (Sam, demon blood, Lilith), and unlike the angels who fell in Season 9, these angels still retain supernatural abilities, they are just very weakened. I hope you check it out!

On the book front, I haven’t done much lately, though I am trying to get my book in a Stuff Your Kindle event that is coming soon. I don’t know if I’ll qualify because it’s supposed to be fantasy/sci-fi, and zombies KINDA fall into that category, but… I don’t know if they’ll accept it… so… yeah.

I just need more hours in a day to get this stuff done... preferably hours when I'm not at work or sleeping...

#oh my gosh I forgot to mention this but I got connected with the most wonderful church here #it’s an international church so there are a lot of people cycling in and out #and it’s on the 7th floor of a building and a bit hard to find #but it is absolutely wonderful and the people are so welcoming #I’ve met SO MANY people and I feel like I’m doing well with socializing for once #I made friends with a couple of girls and we’ve run around and done fun stuff together and had actual serious conversations #and like I’m wondering if one of the reasons God has me here is to teach me how to be a member of a church family independent of my family #because you know being the preachers kid—that has expectations. you’re at church on Sunday because your dad’s in the pulpit #(not that that’s actually the only reason for me but that’s what it looks like to other people)#here though I’m at church because I want to be there. I’m an independent woman who chose to come to church on her own #and I’m really enjoying it!#Val’s gone globetrotting

ok i slept for uhhh seventeen hours on and off since last night bc chronic illness <3 BUT that means I'll be up until like five am tonight. sad. BUT!!! that gives me time to read fics that i've meant to for months, and reading fic in general is something i don't do often so i'm kind of excited for my accidental all nighter era.

#ok. adding this in post. accidental chronic illness vent in tags #I FINALLY DON'T HAVE SCHOOLWORK TO BE DOING INSTEAD #deadass i finished my exam and project on sunday #and have been in crash mode ever since #i need to just give into it #on one hand i feel guilty that I HAVE the luxury of giving into it #because tons of people don't #but also i know that i have the luxury BECAUSE i planned my schedule/life around my illnesses #i KNOW this happens. especially in the fall (see: october slide) so I take lighter courseloads #and it's so hard. I feel like I struggle with things most people can do in their sleep.#I don't have enough blood in my brain to think half the time /literally and medically. not joking here #I'm chronically pretty fucking hypoxic and have blood pooling #so i know I need to be more understanding of myself here #but realizing your limits are different from other people is just so difficult to reckon with #especially in your early twenties (21.5) when I see other people making huge progress towards independence #i WILL still move out within the next couple years if i can help it. but I also know it will be uniquely challenging for me.#sigh.#I desperately want independence but it doesn't really want me lol #too bad for independence though. I've made it work this far and I'll keep pushing as far as I can with it.#my main concern is driving though. driving and brain fog reaction times/occasional syncope are. not great things to mix!#will cross that bridge when i get there
