Thinking about how Ninjago S2 is probably one of my favorite pieces of television I've ever watched. It flows so well off of season 1 and allows those arcs to spread and grow.

It gave us the Mega Weapon, the Stone Army, the Overlord, lore for the Destiny's Bounty, let us actually meet Zane's dad, Misako, cured Garmadon, gave Lloyd his best arc (which the movie pretty much pulled from and the show still does), still is the Overlord's best defeat,

The characters actually have interesting dynamics with each and every one of each other that allows them to truly feel like a found family with history (and both Jay AND Kai get to react to things that happen to Nya, not just her Yin),

We got one of my favorite 3D-animated fights of all time,

And let's be honest, the show peaked right here (in a positive way).

I think about my own characters way more than any characters in media so I started with what characters came to mind first and the first 3 were from obscure series while the last two would have been very well known so I decided to instead come up with total of 5 all from obscure series instead so it would be more balanced. I think my faves really rotate depending on what media I am currently consuming.. Only 1 of these has an anime let's see if that one wins.

watching a couple mandos give Din a friendly punch got me thinking. i really would appreciate just... ANY indication of what growing up in the covert was like for Din. like obviously he must've grown up with SOME of the mandos who are still there (unless they ALL died, which, idk possible,) but we've seen zero evidence of any kind of familial connection. ppl have HC'd Paz as having this brotherly OR semi-romantic relationship with Din (which I love) but all we've actually seen is Paz being a huge COP. like a real state trooper "you were doing ten miles over" kind of a dick. like yes he patched Din up that one time and doesn't seem to actively HATE Din, but helping other mandos is just part of the Creed. so far all i've gathered from Paz is that he cares about one thing: the Creed, and making sure he and everyone else follow it. like the fuckin group hall monitor. lol. whether it's soldiers, monks, or soldierly monks, even the most fanatical groups form intimate relationships with one another. if these are the people who raised Din, who grew up alongside him—if this is his FAMILY, where's the FAMILY of it all??? i'd just love for like one mando to push Din into the water and call him a bitch and then later they're sharing food or something. like literally anything. i know it's probably meant to be assumed(?) that familial bonds exist there, but it would be nice to actually see. one.

The overdress is all in one piece! And we have sleeves! With bonus screen accurate Rhaenyra ring!

Work has been extra weird this week, but weird in a way that's given me more time to iron and pin and sew than I usually have. So I was able to get through that long list of pressing tasks from my last post, and then pin the two front panels to the side panels (which are already sewn to the back panels), pin the back seams of the sleeves, and sew those four seams earlier today.

With those seams done, the sleeves are sleeve-shaped and the dress is basically dress-shaped. All of those new seams need pressed, and the sleeve seams will need to be hand-finished since the black silk organza is a bit itchy on its cut edges. There's just one more body seam left to sew for the dress, the center front seam, and then the little shoulder seams.

There's quite a lot of finishing to be done, both on the dress and the sleeves. In the above pic, the sleeve is just clamped closed at the underside of the wrist, and once it has its hooks-and-eyes it'll fit a lot more smoothly. And then there's all the seam finishing for the dress, hemming the neck and armscyes and skirt edge, and handsewing on all the trim and beading. Lots to do!

I've been working little by little on the handsewing for the seams finishes for the underdress, and then it will need all its hemming too. But when possible I've been trying to focus on the overdress, because if it came down to it, I would rather have the overdress done and leave the underdress somewhat unfinished. But today is exactly 15 weeks until I have to pack for Dragon Con, so I've still got time, and I'm hoping I can get everything finished to my liking in the time remaining.

Besides the dress itself, I still have a few things to do on the wig, and I've been tracking down the jewelry pieces one by one, and I may actually end up making one piece that I've been unable to find. I also want to make a little handbag to carry all my stuff at con, but that's definitely on the nice-to-have list.

Some days I feel like I'll be able to get through this whole project with time to spare, and other days I feel like I'm going to be working on it up until the very last moment, and maybe have to cut corners to get it done. Getting through this last portion of machine sewing and into all the extensive handsewing will hopefully give me a better idea of how long the whole thing will take.

But, of course, I'm already having Ideas™ about what other cosplays I could make for Dragon Con this year, if I do end up having time at the end of the summer. One of them would be pretty straightforward, and I could use the same pattern as this project with just a few modifications, and I already have at least most of the materials I would need to complete it. The other one is completely ridiculous, with tedious machine sewing and handsewing, but damn it would be fun.

Welp. I guess if I want to have any hope of finishing this cosplay and maybe one or two more after that, I should probably get back to it. My iron awaits!

I've just finished watching Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire on Disney Plus and thought I'd post about it to spread the word a bit since it has been criminally under-marketed.

I will preface this by disclaiming that I am not black nor do I know much about African mythology, aside from the vague smatterings of Ancient Egypt that most people know. I am confident there is a great deal of references and symbolism that sailed over my head. With that in mind, I will judge the series on its own merits. I will not delve into individual episode content in part so as not to spoil and in part because I feel someone with a stronger connection to the source material would do a better job than myself

This is an anthology series, in a similar vein to Love, Death and Robots. Similarly, the series is primarily science fiction or science fantasy. No two episodes are alike, even in art style, though some of the CGI can look similar. Art-wise, some episodes are CGI, others are traditional 2D and still others use a blend of the two.

Each episode comtains elements of science fiction and elements of African mythology in various degrees. Some episodes have technology as a mere backdrop or conceit, while others have it as the focus. By the same token, some episodes have a huge focus on the spiritual side, while others merely have it in reference. This last point I will admit may be a bit unfair as, again, it may just be the references escaped me.

Similarly to Love, Death and Robots, the quality varies quite wildly from episode to episode. There are no episodes that I outright disliked, but there are some definite winners. The format of the episodes, being 15 minute shorts (closer to about 10 minutes if you discount the credits) works better for some than others, again, similarly to Love Death and Robots. Some were the perfect length, others I feel were too short for the story they wanted to tell. Some I would very much like more of.

The only episode I will mention in particular is episode 2, Mkhuzi: The Spirit Racer, directed by Simangaliso ‘Panda’ Sibaya & Malcom Wope. This was my favourite episode by a good margin and, to me, came across as a pilot episode. I desperately hope this is true, because there is so much potential in this story. I would give anything for a full series to be made out of this.

Built For Speed The One Motorcycle Show [Portland]

Heyyoo, *sigh* I have been so busy with work, that I haven’t been able to catch up on any of my shows, but I have been able to try and catch up/finish some of my shows. Here’s a few recommendations if anyone is interested:

Fionna and Cake is my current obsession. Like I’m soooo excited to see where this show goes as an Adventure Time sequel.

Tom Holland’s The Crowded Room was a really good watch. It showcased how versatile of an actor he really is. It’s on Apple TV if anyone is interested in watching.

Even though this show didn’t get ANY promotion, Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire is probably one of the best animated shows to come out this year. It’s an african animated anthology series with different art styles and tales of different parts of Africa. It was such a fun watch. 100% recommend if nobody’s watched it yet.

Ahsoka seems good… but honestly I’m so bored with Disney stuff right now, none of it is as interesting as it was to me. I do want to watch this show tho just to try and get back into Star Wars.

One Piece is an anime I’ve been meaning to checkout, and after the good reviews about the live action series, I’m even more interested in watching both series now. Gotta start on this one soon.

Big Brother 25 has made me irritated but also very intrigued to see if Cirie and The Fields’ ends up steamrolling their way to the end like they have so far. Every week it’s something, and it always ends up being frustrating to watch. As long as Meme, America and Cory are still there I’m good lol.
