can you recommend any bios on putin?
Sure. I haven't read a ton of books about Putin/Russia, but there are four books in particular that I have and felt were really good.
•Putin by Philip Short (BOOK | KINDLE | AUDIO) This 2022 title is the most recent book I can personally recommend and the only one published since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began. Short also wrote two other great books on autocrats that I'd suggest checking out -- Pol Pot: Anatomy of a Nightmare, and Mao: The Man Who Made China.
•The New Tsar: The Rise and Reign of Vladimir Putin by Steven Lee Myers (BOOK | KINDLE | AUDIO) Myers, who has been reporting from around the world for decades for the New York Times, published this book in 2015 and it reveals a closer and more-detailed look at Putin the person than outsiders have ever had before.
•The Man Without a Face: The Unlikely Rise of Vladimir Putin by Masha Gessen (BOOK | KINDLE | AUDIO) Born in Russia and now an American citizen, Gessen, who is now known as M. Gessen is a prominent critic of Putin's rule. They examine how a relatively low-level, seemingly unimpressive KGB operative somehow rose to become Boris Yeltsin's hand-picked successor and one of the most powerful people of the 21st century.
•Kremlin Rising: Vladimir Putin's Russia and the End of Revolution by Peter Baker and Susan Glasser (BOOK | KINDLE) I make a point of getting every book written by Peter Baker and Susan Glasser, whether it's something the married couple has written together or the many books they've written on their own. Published in 2007, after Baker and Glasser finished serving as chiefs of the Washington Post's Moscow bureau in the early years of Putin's first stretch in the Russian Presidency, this book focuses on how Putin impacted a Russia that was rapidly undergoing drastic changes in the 15 years since the Soviet Union collapsed and the backsliding from the delicate form of democracy that Boris Yeltsin had attempted to implement after the end of the Cold War.

Another new photo - part of the famous Sevastopol photos
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Featuring Tsar Nicholas, Alexandra Feodorovna, Olga Nikolaevna, Anastasia Nikolaevna, and Tatiana Nikolaevna in Sevastopol, May 1916. You may be familiar with the quite well known photos that were taken on the same trip, such as the one below.

Once again, the new photo was discovered by the wonderful Ilia, lastromanovs on flickr. Спасибо, Илия!

visiting the houses of 19th century-early 20th century American rich people turned into museums is always a weird experience, they were so obsessed with recreating european aristocracy for themselves down to buying 18th century French panelling and all the furniture etc.

❦ᰔᩚ NEW RARE ALERT!!! ❦ᰔᩚ
From left to right: Tsar Nicholas II, his daughters-Grand Duchesses Maria Nikolaevna, Olga Nikolaevna, Tatiana Nikolaevna and Anastasia Nikolaevna. The person between Tatiana and Anastasia is probably an officer from Standart, I can't recognize who exactly that is; but if anyone has ideas notify me! The photo was probably taken c. 1913 in Livadia, Crimea!
analysis
As we can clearly see, they are all looking at the same spot in the pond, while Nastenka and the officer are holding tennis rackets. Meanwhile Nicholas is gentle pointing with his hand at that spot in the direction everyone is looking. It looks like they're focusing to solve a problem while talking and arguing about the best way to do it. I assume they were playing tennis and someone accidentally kicked the ball out of bounds, so its destiny was to end up in the water. What do you think? 🖤

I haven't heard anything about LoV vs. Star Wars, please, tell me more! Who would fight who, who would win, and at what cost?
Is Shiragaki allowed to use the Nomu in this fight?
Lmaooo okay that one isn’t actually a fight per say- the idea is the LoV got reincarnated into Star Wars and are living their best lives running around screwing up Sith plans completely accidentally. They don’t have any Nomu besides Kurogiri, who is now a Wookiee Jedi Shadow! He can’t infinite fall portal them anymore but he sure can pick any of the League up by their ankles and shake them upside down until they promise to behave.
The whole thing is kind of accidentally turning into a character study of Dabi vs Anakin, aka two horrifically possessive people ruled by their anger, only Dabi’s just self aware enough to avoid all the pitfalls Anakin so spectacularly falls down.
(No snippets for this, I only have plot notes)

Okay, I've been looking into tomorrow's date, and woooo boy did a ton of interesting stuff happen in history on 15th March.
First and foremost, the reason we celebrate, assassination of Caesar. We know it, we love it. We stab it. What no I didn't say anything y anyway, moving on.
The Hungarian Revolution, although not interesting to me, starts in 1848. aka the year everything went to hell and I'm surprised we didn't have a First World War that early on.
Then, probably most interesting to me is the fact Nicholas II abdicates the throne in 1917., ending the 304 year long rule of the Romanovs, AND THEN IN 1990. Gorbachev is elected president of the Soviet Union, which probably led to it's break-up.
that's really ironic, don't you think? Nick abdicates and the beta Soviet Union is set up, and on the same day just 73 years later, it's cursed to take a chill pill because of Gorbachev, and then breaks up.
Anyway, sharpen your knives and get ready, we're swarming the salad boy in the morning.
