I’m at a true loss for words, but also feel like I have so much to say? The last 24 hours haven’t felt real. I don’t think the news really sunk in until I saw the posts from Louis, Zayn, Harry and the official 1D account.

I created an account on Tumblr all the way back in 2011, specifically for this group of 5 boys from the UK who had stolen my heart. I can still remember the feeling of hearing them sing for the first time. Funny enough it wasn’t WMYB; the music video for Gotta Be You was recommended on YouTube and the rest is history.

I was a freshman-sophomore when the boys fame started to really take off, and my love for them as well. High school was a very rough time for me with body dysmorphia, anxiety and depression. I would self harm because I had all of these feelings that I didn’t know how to express or who to express them to. Until I found the boys.

It sounds dramatic to say they saved my life.. but they truly did. Something clicked after that first song, and suddenly life didn’t feel so hard and scary. I made friends because of One Direction. My first “adult” concert (aka old enough to get the tickets myself) was their first tour of America - the Up All Night tour. Olly Murs opened and even though I was up in the rafters, it was the greatest moment of my life up until that point.

After that concert, I wore the T-shirt I bought from the merch tent all the time. After a while it got so gross and old, that I didn’t have any real reason to keep it. But I did. Something inside of me wouldn’t let me get rid of it.

Today I pulled that old shirt out and just held it. Lord knows it doesn’t fit anymore but even just holding it flooded the memories back into my brain. Memories of waking up at 3AM for album releases, of waiting in line for special editions of the albums, of seeing This Is Us in theaters many times. The memory of skipping class the day Zayn left to sit with the shock, and the memory of how it felt to hear the word hiatus.

All that’s to say once the boys went on hiatus, I started to drift away from the fandom. I still followed all the boys’ careers loosely, but really only Harry I followed in detail. So seeing the news a few years back about Liam’s substance abuse struggles, I was pleasantly surprised to hear about his sobriety in 2023. Especially after the interviews he had done during the time when he was struggling with addiction (ahem Logan Paul).

To then all culminate into the abuse allegations brought forth by Maya in the last few weeks. It was so disappointing to hear. That someone that I looked up to as a teenager could be capable of the things being reported. I wanted justice for Maya and I wanted Liam held accountable but to also be able to get the help he has needed for years, but doesn’t seem to have gotten.

I think one thing I’ve struggled with is mourning for the person I loved as a teen, who wasn’t the same person as an adult that did terrible things. It’s complicated. But understanding both things can be true, helps make processing this grief easier.

I send all of my love, thoughts and prayers to Liam’s parents, sisters and family. To his son, Bear. To his brothers, Harry, Louis, Niall and Zayn. To Kate. To Maya. To his friends and all those close to him. And lastly, to all the fellow Directioners processing this together.

Please remember to take time away from social media when things feel heavy. If you’re struggling, please reach out to someone - heck, my inbox is always open if you just need someone. Just don’t feel like you have to carry anything alone.

disclaimer i guess, all of this is made up and not real and anything that resembles irl stuff is a coincidence

Saxoland is a nation situated between the UK and the rest of Europe. It used to be part of the united kingdoms... used to. Nowadays it's only associated with it in pop culture due to its history, as the country itself isn't and doesn't see itself as part of the uk or britain or anything.

Saxoland is slightly older than England, and during their early years they were very close and did consider themselves brothers, but overtime once the UK became a thing and England became... england, Saxoland started getting used as a meat shield and a convenient country to blame for all the bad things England did. If other countries, mostly european ones, believed England in that, they'd go beat up Saxoland as it was closer than the rest of the UK and the apparent cause of any given troubles. Saxoland was weakened due to the constant attacks, and whenever he'd ask england for help, England would be like ":3 nah". England also used that weakened state to take over any land Saxoland has on the main island, reducing it to the islands between him and europe.

One day the king of Saxoland decided that enough was enough and effectively put the country into lockdown, refusing to allow any ships that weren't local to dock and kicking out anyone without a citizenship, especially english people. The country then stayed isolated for around 100 years give or take, and recently they've been opening their borders again! They're now a tourist hotspot due to the mystique and percieved exoticism of a country that was hard to access not so long ago, so now there is a shitty tourist problem there 😔 The population being generally pretty chill and low crime rates made Saxoland kinda popular as a good country to live in, tho it's really hard to get citizenship there.

Nowadays England is trying to establish a good relationship with Saxoland again and have it join the UK again, but all those attempts are kinda… useless. It's not happening, England. The Saxolandian government ignores any communication coming from the english government and Sigewine, the country person, hates Arthur with a burning passion. If Arthur tries to get close to Sigewine, he will be threatened and attacked if the threats don't scare him off.

the white bunny and the brown rabbit are local deities, the white bunny represents fertility, kindness and protects people from sickness and the brown rabbit that represents luck, courage and it protects you from evil people who mean you harm, specifically english people. Rabbits and bunnies are a really important part of Saxolandian culture due to the many myths involving them.

There are stray bunnies and rabbits just living and chilling in the streets like we'd have stray cats and dogs, those rabbits and bunnies mostly survive cause the people feed them and care for them despite not bringing them home. They arent brought home most of the time cause the popular belief is that stray bunnies and rabbits are servants of the gods and are on a mission so bringing them home would hinder them from accomplishing whatever they're out to do. Nowadays tho there's a local organisation that takes care of chipping and neutering the strays so they don't go out of control like a few times in the past.

There's a popular children's book character called Sige the bun that is TOTALLY NOT a rip off of Winnie the pooh what do you mean? In any case, it acts somewhat as the mascot of the country, it's used in advertising, merch and other similar things. It's the plushie Saxoland is holding in the illustration at the top. In his books/cartoons, Sige has a rabbit sidekick called Wine, who is way less popular than Sige but who gets a lot of love too. They are 100% reference to the bunny and rabbit gods, not sharing their names because at the time the books were written it was considered rude to speak the names of the gods without a reason.

Easter is a major one week long celebration, but instead of egg hunts they do country wide rabbit and bunny statuette hunts, but those fulfill the same role as the eggs do in other countries. In Saxoland, the meaning of easter is also not related to christianity at all, they just borrowed the idea of it because of the bunny theme and now they use it to worship their own deities. Once easter is over, everyone puts the little rabbit and bunny statuettes around their house as decoration and as a way to attract the blessings fo the Bunny and the Rabbit. Once the year is up and easter arrives again, the statuettes are gathered and hidden around Saxoland again. Sadly, lately, the statuettes have started being stolen by the tourists coming over for the holiday to keep as a souvenir or to make a quick buck, which is generally seen as a bad move.

Eating rabbit isnt illegal, but you're probably gonna be judged really hard cause it's disrespectful to eat a messenger of the gods and it attracts bad luck and sickness. You might also get a beating from the gods who knows.

Saxoland keeps a list of micronations they acknowledge as countries, and he has a form online you can fill in if you're the leader of a micronation and you want to appear on this list. However, he makes a point to never include Stomaria because Stomaria wants to be like England and that's a nono in this household

i do hope one thing that comes from the fan uproar around l&co’s cancellation is that it catches the attention of other parties. the goal is obviously to be picked up by another service or have netflix change their mind, BUT it would be amazing if other people took note of the noise being made and realised how much desire there is for l&co.

for example, bookstores: STOCK THESE BOOKS!!! i haven’t seen physical copies in any bookshops both independent and national chains and my library only stocks the first one and i live in the uk where the series originates. i read them on kindle but i’d love to have them on my shelves, fans want to buy them. plus jonathan stroud clearly enjoys signings and festivals and events - get him in your shop and the fans will flock!

book publishers: print these books in the countries/languages that don’t currently have them, there is such an obvious demand, especially if the show doesn’t continue even more fans will be turning to the books to finish the story and we’re an international fanbase (the show was TOP TEN in EIGHTY COUNTRIES). and while we’re at it, it would be the perfect opportunity to do a reprint with some nicer covers or make some anniversary/illustrated editions, update the audiobooks with a better narrator (ruby stokes is RIGHT THERE), the treatment most popular ya series get!! l&co is a hit series and like i said before demand is probably going to get even higher for the books but right now it’s weirdly hard to access and enjoy them.

etsy and redbubble designers: make bookish l&co merch!!! people will buy it!!! where is my ‘a female serial killer? woo inspirational! why don’t you put it on a t-shirt’ t-shirt??? where is my candle inspired by ‘the library at portland row’??? bookmarks that look like mini rapiers??? 

hell, jonathan stroud has watched first-hand from twitter as the fandom has exploded and the demand to know more has grown; if he wanted to write a new short story like the dagger in the desk or put together a demi-god files style collection with missing moments or an update on the gang post-teg in canon, we’d go feral!!!! i’d read the portland row shopping list at this point and say thank you for it.

i guess what i’m saying is, even if the effort to save the show doesn’t succeed (and i REALLY hope it does), i hope the engagement and passion from fans leads to more l&co content in a variety of forms and that it’s accessible to everyone who wants it.

is it too pretentious to say hungary? it's a fun and technical circuit and because we have silly weather u can never guarantee the conditions during the race. plus because of the circuit's difficulty you just KNOW it's not gonna be boring.

okay okay. i probably love singapore a tad bit more than hungary, mostly same reasons + night circuit. i LOVE night races. i wouldnt make the drivers race in those extreme conditions tho, as much as i love the circuit itself

🌎 is f1 popular where you live?

i would say it's decently popular? we always see a few f1 hats or jackets when we are out and about. definitely not the most popular sport tho. i'm basing this on the fact that the lego mclaren and mercedes sets are easily obtainable and not sold out all the time. you can also find a few stray pieces of team merch in outlet stores, nothing like the uk or netherlands tho. - side note, i live in ireland

Anyway if you’re in the UK and are a big fan of Silly Gay Theatre, go and see Unfortunate: the musical parody telling the untold story of Ursula the sea witch.

I first saw this show at the Edinburgh Fringe in August 2019. Back then it was pretty dirty and very gay.

In the 5 years since it has somehow become even dirtier and gayer (a la Rocky Horror, which gradually seems to get more obscene in the greatest possible way every time I go and see it)

Tonight my mother took me to see it at our local bc she knows how much child-me was obsessed with Disney’s little mermaid (1989)…I *think* she had a good time (although I don’t think she was expecting *quite* so many drag queens.)

Anyway I’m just so delighted that the best musical I’ve seen at the fringe has gone from this silly little low budget student show to an even sillier full scale national touring musical with a cast recording and merch and everything.

Go and see it you bawdy, queer, theatre nerds, 10/10 long may it continue

also re that post I can't find cause I scrolled past it that basically said that if you see someone wearing harry potter merch out in public they probably don't actually know jkr is transphobic/transmisogynistic - firstly, really wish the op had specified only in the country they're from (which based on the post seems to be the US?) bc it's definitely untrue in the UK. in my own lived experience of interacting w people who wear hp merch I do think it is legit a dogwhistle in 2023 + coverage of jkrs views is regularly on the front page of mainstream national news. I can imagine it gets less coverage in the US as jkrs not from that country but in the UK literally from my own experience of talking to the most normie ass logged off people, the average brit is aware of it and it is common knowledge and it has been since about 2020-21 (it's been public knowledge for longer but the press didn't really report on it until then). and also if ur talking specifically about people who wear harry potter merch that's not the average person, that's someone who's gone out of their way to buy and actively wear hp merch, ie someone who's probably a fan, ie someone who is much more likely to be following news about jkr and following her on social media or whatever. like if you go on any of the ye olde web 1.0 noughties hp fansites (those that still exist anyway) a lot of them will have issued some kind of statement on jkrs transphobia/transmisogyny - if it's someone who actually considers themselves a fan of jkr/hp they are much more likely to both know about it and have an opinion on it. "it's not common knowledge" would've been an accurate statement in 2017 when everyone who knew she was a transmisogynist were people who were regularly checking jk rowlings twitter likes, ie probably her fans, ie if someone actually likes/d harry potter they'd probably be the first to know lol...

in any case - very possibly the average person in the US wearing harry potter merch isn't transphobic, I dunno, ive never been to that country. but that's absolutely not a universal thing and I especially don't think "it's not common knowledge" is applicable to people who wear hp merch as a group, which is not representative of the general population.

DO I!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'VE DEDICATED MY LIFE TO IT!!! here's a bunch of my faves in no particular order:

forbidden planet - the london megastore is said to be the biggest comic book shop in the uk (it's pretty damn big!) and my go-to place for weeklies. they don't have back issues unless you're looking for something that's a couple months old at the very best but they do have tons of merch/toys of all kinds, crazy sales, trades like you wouldn't believe and general books. practically my home away from home, i'm at forbidden planet pretty much every wednesday to pick up new releases. also: very frequent free signings with some of the biggest names you can think of!

gosh! comics - home of the indie comics & weeklies, gosh! is a couple streets away from fp in soho and probably one of my favourite places to waste an hour or two in. the good folks at gosh! still believe in zines and they've got plenty of them, as well as comic mags of the british & american variety, comic theory & history, pretty decent sales on trades, and a huge supply of back issues downstairs. their back issues are what i consider pricey (£3-10 range) but they're remarkably well organised and well stocked. this is the place to be if you wanna move away from the big two or towards the history/study side of things, and they've got very frequent signings too!

the notting hill comic exchange - just around the corner from the notting hill gate tube station, this is probably my favourite place in the world for back issues. you can find any indv issue youve ever dreamed of for 50p - £1 at the exchange and they've got boxes & boxes of 'em, especially now that the shop has extended into the notting hill book exchange next door and there's a couple beautiful beautiful cheap boxes in there too. they've also got comic collections (indv issues of an arc in one bag), comic-related books, adult comics, magazines and trades at less reasonable prices (for my standards, anyway) but it's heaven for back issues!

a place in space - a little ways away from the croydon shopping centre, a place in space has alphabetized boxes of individually priced back issues and weeklies as well as trades and action figures. while they don't have any designated cheap boxes, the prices tend to be fantastic (£1-5) and they've been remarkably well-stocked every time i've been there, especially if you're looking for modern age anything (nineties especially). i'm not a very frequent visitor solely because i can almost always be found around leicester square/central london but man, if i don't just love this shop!

krypton comics & books - a five min walk from the blackhorse road tube station on the victoria line, krypton comics started as a small stall in camden market back in the eighties and has since become a wonderful little shop with amazing prices. while they don't seem to employ any sort of method of organizing... anything, they've got about ten boxes filled to the brim with 50p comics and you better believe i've spent many an afternoon digging through those & walking away with some incredible stuff! they're only open three days per week so better check the website before visiting but trust me, it's as worth it as it gets!

mega city comics - over in camden and literally across the street from the tube, mega city has back issues & weeklies as well as tons of non-western comics. they're a little pricey for my taste and often tend towards silver age rarities but there's discount boxes as well and it's definitely worth a look if you're in the area!

a moment of silence for orbital comics and 30th century comics, which were once the loves of my life and have gone online post-lockdown, and a honorary mention to piranha comics in bromley. i would also recommend checking out the london comic mart, which is held once every two months at the royal national hotel in russell square and has quite literally 100+ booths with 25p/50p/75p back issues of all eras (the literal highlight of my entire life, obviously)! local charity shops such as most oxfam locations also carry comics for incredible prices, and i've definitely gotten a good chunk of my collection from the one down the street from my place.

so, that's pretty much it! i hope i've helped a lil, enjoy!!!!!!
