Apparently in my absence this post had its 1000-notes-iversary.

This time we get to see the culprit responsible for ruining our heroes' lives as well.

I've really missed you guys, by the way. I know I've said that already, but I'm serious. Once or twice this year I've been right on the brink of coming back but schedule stuff always keeps me from letting myself commit to that again, and that in turn has kept me from posting anything at all. But I've been in an unexpected drawing mood lately and so if I can get enough stuff to set up a queue we might pretend I'm back for a month or so sometime this year. Maybe. Hopefully. We'll see. No promises though. That's why I'm hiding this paragraph under the cut.

No, I did not "accidentally" publish that post with a typo. Everyone of my posts has at least one mistake in it, possibly more, in reference to the American legend that one must put one flaw in every creation so their soul can escape.

#it is an american legend by the way #deliberate imperfection in textile work is a tradition across many cultures #but the specific 'so your soul can escape' is an American creation #i originally put 'only God is perfect' but it turns out that multiple traditions actually use that #the only 'so your soul can escape' i found sourced was claimed to be Irish myth

the car is shit because it doesn’t have a strong front (like the f1-75 did @ the start of 2022), and they can’t change the chassis because of the cost cap. it’s too expensive. so we’re stuck with the chassis binotto & co. designed to suit carlos’ driving style (re: understeer). i know they’ve tried to add some aero-related pieces to strengthen the front in their development (e.g., new diffuser, front flap, etc.). which is why charles was feeling a little more like his old self yesterday and carlos fell off a bit. i’m so ready for the 2024 car since they’ve said they’re designing it toward charles’ driving style (oversteer, fast). hope they can deliver for him. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 he deserves a great car!

I truly have no words...

Charles did a great Q3 lap. Drove on the edge a few times in sector 2, and then the rear just... doesn't respond in sector 3. And his lap time is nowhere as a result. He really could have done nothing more. The SF-23 truly belongs in the trash. Absolutely disgrace of a car.

What's worse is this disgrace of a team, who developed the fast pointy F1-75 into an understeer tractor AND stopped development early to focus on the SF-23 (LMAO), an even worse understeer tractor that they now can't develop out of a wet paper bag. They need to bin their organizational philosophy, bin a perpetually feckless strategy team (notice how this season Merc always finishes where they deserve by just ... you know, behaving normally?), bin their useless second driver who at best gives bad data (Silverstone tire wear) and at worst does everything to undermine their fastest driver (Silverstone quali, Austria race, Monaco quali, Australia quali, Saudi race - weaving, Silverstone 2021 race - shoving off the track, etc. I can't even keep tabs anymore, it's actually getting comical) while politicking car development into the midfield.

I'm constantly mind blown this team cannot do simple math. To win WDC/WCC, you don't need both drivers to be comfortable, you don't need your drivers to finish 1-2, YOU NEED YOUR FASTEST DRIVER TO FINISH P1. The points difference between P1 and P2 is fucking enormous. As long as you make a car that CHARLES can win in, it doesn't matter if his teammate is P3, P4, etc. (or if you're special like Perez, DNF in FP1 and then P9).

There's talent in the team. Charles is generational. I think Vasseur is trying to do right, but dear god - there's a reason Schumacher was so successful. He had the political sway and brought in his own people to absolutely GUT Ferrari over several years and turned it into something unrecognizable. To win with Ferrari, you must first disrespect and destroy Ferrari.

December 28, 2015 the world lost Lemmy Kilmister to cancer. It was a silent battle he kept hidden from both the public and his bandmates. He didn't want the sympathy or attention. He wanted to live life as it was. He definitely left a giant hole in my heart as well as the hearts of the rock and metal community. An inspiration to many. Thinking abt Ghost StoriesTM in Gondor, and I imagine that on the coast (Pelargir, Dol Amroth, Anfalas etc.) there's a myth about the Alcarondas (Ar-Pharazon's ship) that roughly runs kind of congruent to the real-world myth of the flying dutchman.

Mkay so - oh goodness wait I was gonna talk about a particularly dangerous pass in the north of the Terran Archipelago called Demon's Run that Thete sailed through one time in the height of a storm, and how she had Amy Pond as her sail master because she was the only one crazy enough to do it - and then I realised that most people don't even know the BASIC GEOGRAPHY of pirate au because I never posted the damn maps on this blog!! And DAMMIT WAIT you guys don't even know that pirate!13 is called Thete because I hadn't even DECIDED that when I wrote the oneshot O-O"

So. Right. For the uninitiated - we have Captain Thete Lungbarrow, a privateer. She's from a country in the far north called Gallifrey, which is an empire and at war with another empire ruled by it's neighbouring country, Dalerio. The Terran Archipelago is down in the south, and it's where Thete has lived the majority of her life because her family moved there when she was very young. She kind of considers herself more Terran than Gallifreyan, but that's a whole thing. Anyway the Terran Archipelago is ruled over by the Gallifreyan Empire. The Dalek Empire has Clom, a large island to the north east of the Archipelago, and want the country of Raxacorico too (which is directly north of the Archipelago) as well as the Terran islands, so there is a lot of disputed territory in the northern Terran islands. Which is where Demon's Run is.

So then you've got Thete, sailing through Demon's Run in this great storm with a skeleton crew and Amy as sail master, Jack Harkness as her quartermaster, through DISPUTED TERRITORY, just to help out a certain infamous thief called River Song, who screwed Thete over one time in a way that impressed her so much that she couldn't even be mad about it. And the legend goes that they got through that pass without a single scratch on the hull. This is because people saw Thete's ship, The Arcadia, a few days later in a nearby port, looking entirely undamaged. This is because they did NOT sail an entire tall ship through that pass. They took a smaller boat. And Jack will tell you - it DEFINITELY got a bit more than just scratched
