Sometimes when Harry looks at Tom, he's reminded of a lesson one of his muggle teachers gave on reptiles. Chameleons that can change their skin colour to blend into their surroundings or anoles that shed their tails to distract a predator and escape – adapting in order to survive, no matter what it takes.

Harry is himself, to a fault. He spent so long beaten down and trying to disappear so he wouldn’t draw his relatives’ ire that he now refuses to hide or apologise for who he is and what he wants. It probably helps that his wants are pretty basic – good food, good friends, a warm, comfortable place to live, someone to love him – and that he inherited the money and name to easily achieve them.

Tom, on the other hand, is so used to being smoke and mirrors and disguising what he wants and what he is in order to pretend to be what others want or need. 

He’d been unapologetically (and tyrannically) himself in his childhood, his magic giving him the power to exert his will over others. But Tom is brilliant and a quick learner, and his first interaction with Dumbledore, which he’d described late one night to Harry when the shadows hid both their faces, had proven a subtler touch might be needed.

Now, Tom reflects other peoples’ desires back at them in order to draw them in, and deflects the conversation away from himself so he never has to clearly define his own position. He doesn’t change himself, but everyone seems to believe Tom is on their side – that they’re on the same page. And because of his power and charm and good looks, everyone wants Tom on their side.

Harry has seen this happen many, many times, and he’s still in awe of how Tom affably manipulates those around him into doing what he wants. How Tom determines what someone wants, says just enough to convince them he does too without committing to anything, and twists that connection into a shape that best suits him.

In fact, the only reason Harry believes Tom actually likes him is because Tom never pretends to be what he thinks Harry wants him to be. Tom is petty and says cruel things and lets Harry see him when he’s less than perfectly put together. And Harry treasures each of Tom’s sharp edges, because he’s the only one who gets to see him as he is. He hoards each truth and preference that Tom chooses to share with him like a squirrel preparing for a long, hard winter.

The trouble comes when people talk to Harry about Tom. By virtue of association, Harry’s had to learn to deflect and prevaricate and lie, though he’s still not very good at it. He does a lot of nodding and smiling and making thoughtful “hmm” sounds as people ask him what Tom thinks of this or that. It’s easier than keeping Tom’s machinations straight in his head.

There are moments when Harry isn’t sure Tom even knows who he is at his core. He is so meticulous about his public persona that Harry doubts anyone else knows which foods Tom actually likes (given the chance, Tom would eat ice cream every day), or what he actually thinks about quidditch (he finds it unbearably dull), or what he thinks of muggles (he’ll never be fond of them due to his treatment as a child, but he doesn’t particularly care beyond that) or muggleborns (new blood is necessary for the magical world to continue, but the mages with the deepest pockets are the most bigoted and ‘traditional’) or purebloods (gullible).

And after the tenth meal of eating foods he doesn’t like, or the fifth quidditch match or ministry event or pureblood soirée in a week, or the nth political tapdance before the Wizengamot, pretending to represent everyone’s interests at once without alienating anyone – and quietly getting his own agenda voted through – Harry has to wonder how Tom stays sane. How it all seems worth it. It certainly doesn’t to Harry.

But that’s Tom. Ambitious to a fault, and willing to sacrifice almost anything in order to achieve his goals.

And whatever other people might think, Harry’s not naive. He knows there’s a chance Tom is lying to him, too. He knows it’s possible – even likely – that Tom figured out that the best way to get Harry on his side would be to give him the best illusion of the truth. Show him some darkness and Harry will believe he’s getting honesty. He’s made his peace with this and decided he’d rather give Tom the benefit of the doubt and be a fool than abandon the other man when he’d chosen to be vulnerable with Harry.

So, when Harry brings home Indian takeaway and offers Tom a bite of his rogan josh, only for Tom to casually say, “I don’t really like lamb,” Harry is fascinated and utterly thrilled.

Especially since he’d seen Tom eat lamb chops at a dinner party two weeks ago with nary a moment of hesitation or complaint.

Harry makes sure to leave plenty of the chicken tikka masala for Tom and mentally notes this new preference down. He’s collected a new fact about Tom.

He spends the rest of the meal with a silly little grin on his face.

You'd spent most of the meeting sitting beside Severus, listening to plans being made and getting a read on the others around the room. Severus was tense beside you, so you moved your hand under the table to find his and link your fingers together, offering him what support you could in a room full of people. After the meeting, you and Severus were among the first to excuse yourselves to head home. As some of the others said goodbye to each other, you took the chance to approach the man with dark curly hair who was standing near the wall talking with Arthur Weasley. “So, you’re Sirius Black.” You said, standing in front of him. He smiled at you, dialling up the charm, “Indeed I am. And who might you be?” You smiled darkly, and before he could react he was stumbling back against the wall, his jaw aching from where your fist had collided with his face. You turned sharply and headed towards the door, where Severus was stood staring at you. “Good night, everyone.” You called out as you took Severus’s arm and the two of you headed out the door.

As soon as you’d shut and locked the door to your chambers, he gathered you up in his arms and kissed you deeply. When you broke apart for need of air, Severus pulled back a bit and gazed at you. His intense onyx eyes looked awed and incredulous at the same time. “You punched Black in the face.” He said. You brought your hands up to rest on his chest, “Of course I did.” You said, smiling gently at him, “No-one hurts my man and gets away with it.” You leant up and kissed him gently before stepping back and walking further into the living room.

You hadn’t gone more than a few steps when you were grabbed. Your yelp of surprise turning into a giggle as Severus hoisted you over his shoulder and carried you to the bedroom.

* since her race is elf/vampire her nationality is Afro-latina! But to simplify it she’s Afro-Brazilian (like myself 😌)

what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?

choose violence ask game here Oooh, I’ve had so many of these over the years and fandoms. I do think, however, that I’ve levelled up in my arrogance and now I don’t let fandom hold me back from liking a character they’re wrong about - since I know I’m right. Ahaha. Also, if I like a story, I tend to like the characters overall even if I don't care as much about them all.

But in Dragon Age, which is my longest-running fandom, both Alistair (to a lesser extent) and Cullen (to a greater extent) had some really terrible fans back when DAO came out and some of those carried over to DAI fandom. I mean, I loved the Alistair romance, it was my first DA romance and it ended in actual tears on my part but then part of his fandom was… weird and self-righteous and idk, a lot of people were complete idiots during the LJ days, let me tell you.* As for the Cullenites, I think their pathological obsession with breaking the fourth wall and being creeps about everything speaks for itself.

Also, the Amell/Surana origin was untouchable for me for several years because I was so sick of it being the complete and true canon story where Cullen loved their super cute and super tiny and super unique little mages right from the start, actually and they were just the most speshulest of all the Wardens.

*) There were adult parts of the HP fandom there that constituted the least intelligent crowd I’ve ever seen. Grown-ass women claiming to have several Uni degrees unable to make a single coherent analysis of a children’s book and making such an embarrassing fuss about the Half-Blood Prince, as long as I live I will never fucking forget their endless essays on how they interpreted everything at face value (SNAPE KILLED DUMBLEDORE HERE’S MY META ON HOW SNAPE KILLED DUMBLEDORE CUZ OF EVIL) because that’s how far their analytical skills took them. I don’t know how much you’d like them, or even how good they are. I watch so much stuff that it’s hard for me to tell. But I can say if you want to give them a shot.

Mashle is HP but Harry is a muggle (is that the word? I don’t do HP) who has the power of autism and the body of Saitama and pretends to have magic so he can go to the cool magic school. No strong female characters is probably the main drawback.

Reign of the Seven Spellblades is HP except the female lead is an ex soldier who kills things with a sword, and the Harry character is secretly at the school just because he’s vengeful and obsessed with torturing Dumbledore and the faculty board to death. It kind of feels like “honest” HP; they don’t even try to dance around how fucking lethal and messed up the school is, and they acknowledge the existence of people with gender and sexuality out of the binary. In this case they are magical; being born with gender or sex magic features is presented as good fortune, that can be hard to come to terms with but almost always make you a better mage. In the example of people like that character who changes sexes, it’s that you may have different strengths in different forms (they suck at lightning spells in male form but are good at them in their female body), but not in a “you’re better at this now because women are better at this and men are better at that” way. I’d say the main drawback is some weirdness about feminine characters but it doesn’t really do fan service or anything. It almost does but doesn’t really.

so magisterium is about this guy whose dad is still hung up on the fact his wife was killed by a crazy murderer. So now tbe dad hates magic won’t send the boy to magic school tm. But he ends up there anyways even though he tries to fail the test to get in. Now all the kids at that school are put into their classes like how you’d choose teams for dodgeball in PE. The masters stand up at the front and pick a few kids. This little shit ends up being chosen by essentially what is a less bastard version of dumbledore. He’s the most powerful master. 2 other kids get chosen. Aaron and Tamara. This kid is called Callum btw. Now their first year is called their iron year. Every single mage has an alliance to an element. Fire, water, earth, air or chaos. Master rufus( less bastard dumbledore) gets them to seperate to colours of sand telepathically for about 3 months. The three of them share a room together btw.

“It’s curious that my old friend Xing chose to visit this Halloween, of all times,” Dumbledore told Severus privately, a month previous.

“No doubt he’s curious about the Boy-Who-Lived, like the rest of the idiot public,” Severus sneered.

“If it was anyone else, I might believe that. But he was never impressed by our troubles or interested in Harry. Or how he survived the Killing Curse. The Five Nations apparently have ways around it already. I’ve never been able to determine what.”

The practices of the cultivators—what the West incorrectly bundled under the infuriatingly inaccurate title “Battle Mages”—were a well-guarded mystery. They allegedly included immortality among them. Voldemort had sent several emissaries to the Yiling Patriarch in the hopes of stealing that infamous Dark Lord’s secrets. None of those well-bred, pure-blood emissaries had ever returned. In Severus’s opinion, this was no loss to the wizarding world.

He’d spent enough time wandering through the torturous paths of Dumbledore’s thinking, unfortunately, to know what the Headmaster was obliquely driving at. “The Yiling Patriarch would hardly reject all of the Dark Lord’s messengers and then decide to avenge him ten years later. There is no— no fraternity of Dark Lords.”

“The Yiling Patriarch is not the only one of the Seven Immortals,” Dumbledore reminded him gravely. “Simply the most powerful.”

By which Severus was meant to understand that the Light-bearing Lord, the greatest Light Lord history had ever known, might have some interest in the Potter spawn. Why? Was Dumbledore imagining his blasted prophecy child might be a threat to the Yiling Patriarch? The narrative of the six Immortals battling that great Dark Lord through millenia was, Severus knew through his correspondence with Five Nations compatriots, a story created and popularized by Western wizards who had Opinions about how magical alignment should behave. If he read between the lines correctly—and he was fairly certain he had—the eternal war between the Light-Bearing Lord and Yiling Patriarch involved more wrestling between bedsheets than spellfire exchanged across battlefields.

As we begin There Are No Words Adequate For This Day, Harry Potter is relieved to hear that news of members of the Five Nations visiting on Halloween overshadows his own notoriety. Halloween has meaning to more than one person at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry - this particular Halloween is Harry's first at Hogwarts, and events take a wide detour from the events of the first book in the series.

True, Hermione has run off and is not at the banquet. Also true, there are three members of the Immortal Five Nations attending, including the ICW ambassador from the Five Nations and a younger member who "dabbles" in Potions and is currently a lecturer and post-doctoral student at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst by the name of Lan Yuan.

After a dark hole with "[t]hick, dangerous looking arms of black and burning red smoke" opens up in the dining hall, there is a fight against resentful not-lynx (ineffective on the part of the faculty, very effective from the "Battle Mages" who also appeared). And then, well, I'll leave you to enjoy the results, which are excellent.

Did I mention that Professor Quirrell arrives shouting something about a Troll?

The time-travel fixit comes into play because, well, those travelers who arrive through that dark hole are from the past. Follow-ups are explained in author's notes at the end of chapter 2.

Author pagination has read and enjoyed Author sami's ridiculous future bullshit series (reviewed here) and borrowed the Five Nations from that series. There are two other crossover stories in the series of tales by the author (Harry Potter x Final Fantasy VII, and Harry Potter x My Hero Academia).

So I was contemplating going off of the first book and having the TWST cast continue on helping in books 5-6-7, with MAJOR changes as to what happens.

So going off of this thought.

Yes, he knew...only the first half.

He doesn't know that Malleus is one of the 5 best mages in TWST and that Lilia is a former war general and can still kick it.

He's more concerned with the Fujimaru's.

He wants them both on his side because while Hiro might be allied with Dumbledore, he's not fully on Dumbledore's side of how things are done. Hiro is fully willing to do War Crimes to get the edge up on people and given the fact that in my canon they have made magic resistant weapons, Voldemort is more concerned with getting them either on his side or out of his way.

So he would make the critical mistake of going after the Fujimaru's and getting the full taste of "Fuck Around and Find Out" pretty much as Malleus is possessive of all the Fujimaru's.

So yeah, he'd get his shit rocked for a bit before Malleus backed off because Lilia warned him not to show all the eggs in their basket just yet as he has a whole war room with Malleus, Sebek, Silver, Cater, Idia, Jade, Azul, Floyd, Jamil, and Rook at his disposal as he works to decimate the Dark Side's forces with much efficiency as possible; all the while he laments about his children becoming adults during war meetings.

That being said, I did have this piece planned out where Voldemort tried to get into Hiro's mind using Legilimency, only to find himself sucked into Hiro's very mind as he has a very strong sense of will and being overpowered in a battle of minds and wills.

And then he get's more obsessed with getting the Fujimaru's on his side, no matter how bad it might be.

It’s been a while since I graduated from this institution, pero last week I had the chance to update myself thru socmed kung kamusta na ba tong school na to. Lo and behold, this “adviser” is still thriving pa rin pala sa univ na to. I like to call him “Dumbledore” with the way he loves collecting high-achieving students as his trophies and “anak”, pero would never take notice nor give opportunities sa ibang org members nya na may potential naman pero kulang lang sa exposure. Actually, his entire circle of friends sa univ are like collectors. Friends lang sila with the popular students and echapwera yung ibang org officers na hindi kasing sikat ng iba nyang “anak”.

Not to mention, ginamit (or baka hanggang ngayon – di ko sure) nya position nya to hit on male students. San ka nakakita ng matinong adviser na magchachat ng “I miss you” at “Tabi ka sakin matulog” sa advisee mo during an org outing na may inom kayong lahat? Isang instance pa lang yan, di ko na ire-reveal yung iba baka masyadong maging obvious na.

Contexte : Althéiana Potter est la sœur aînée de quelques minutes d'Harry Potter. C'est une Serpentard. En deuxième année, elle est tombée sur le journal de Jedusor et par une habile manipulation l'a convaincu d'attendre avant de tuer Ginny. En quatrième année, elle a compris qui était vraiment Fol Œil et a aidé Barty à s'échapper et lui a remis le journal pour Voldemort.

L'histoire se déroule après le 16e anniversaire d'Harry et d'Althéïana. Le monde sorcier ne sait toujours pas que Voldemort est revenu, hormis Dumbledore et Harry, car le Tournoi des trois sorciers à bien eu lieu. Ce dernier est plus sain d'esprit, mais est toujours un mage noir.

Althéïana Potter était assise au Magenmagot, son regard glacial fixé sur Thomas Gaunt, le nouvel héritier de Serpentard. Elle savait qui se cachait derrière ce masque d'innocence, elle savait que c'était en réalité Voldemort, celui qu'elle avait sauvé et aidé. Celui qui voulait tuer son frère et qui avait supprimé ses parents.

Alors que les débats faisaient rage autour d'eux, Althéïana sentit le regard de Thomas se poser sur elle. Un frisson lui parcourut l'échine alors qu'elle sentait son regard insistant sur elle. Elle aurait dû détourner les yeux, l'ignorer, mais quelque chose en elle l'attirait inexorablement vers lui.

Après la réunion, Thomas s'approcha d'Althéïana, un sourire en coin sur les lèvres. "Tu sais qui je suis vraiment, n'est-ce pas ?" murmura-t-il, sa voix sombre et envoûtante.
