The little voice in my head: Scar from the Lion King IS the lesson that kid Simba had to learn about being a responsible leader. They are a mirror image of ideals. This is even reflected in their songs. “”Be prepared” and “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” say the same things:
“Look at me!”
“I will be the greatest king!”
“I don’t need your advice!”
And while Simba, being a child, has at least one voice of reason rebuking this way of thinking, Scar -an adult- has chosen to surround himself with pliable yes-men whose questioning ends where the perks begin. Simba is still young and doesn’t understand consequences, whereas Scar has long-since thrown his conscience aside for self-indulgence.
Simba takes responsibility for his father’s death, even when it wasn’t his fault, but because he is willing to take on the role of the king and guide the Pridelands, his subjects forgive and place their trust in him. Scar ,even seconds before his death, tries to blame everything on the hyenas, and he gets eaten for his troubles.
As someone who has loved the Lion King for as long as I can remember getting to watch it today in cinema was one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had! You can just tell this movie was made for the big screen, and the music which is already stunning just became even more impressive in surround sound!!! Moments that particularly stood out was Be Prepared (holy shit that song is so cool in cinemas), the stampede (could literally feel the rumble of the wildebeests), Mufasa talking to Simba from the stars (CRYING IN THE CLUB) the final battle (SO COOL) and when Simba takes over Pride Rock (the roaring was chilling!!) so overall, 10/10 experience highly recommend haha
