Note to Ruki - I darkened his mane color and used the "dark fur color" on his ears instead of the nose color, his character sheet is also not up to date. (....need a new one........)

Hi!! It's so exciting to get a message from someone from Uganda. I loved it very much in Uganda, such a beautiful country! I learned some of the dialect and accent but I didn't keep it.

Niljifunza kusema Kiswahili, lakina kidogo sasa. Sizuri katika hilo. I think my grammar is not that good. Everyone speaks Luganda in Uganda anyway, so I didn't use Swahili much.

Why did you decide to live in Uganda for a couple years ? just curious

Oh, I didn’t! My immediate family moved there when I was young. We all had a say, but it was ultimately my parents’ decision. My mother stopped being able to work and my dad wanted to change his career, but that meant we couldn’t afford where we lived. Moving overseas allowed us to keep our house and rent to tenants, and we were all excited by the prospect of adventure! We’re the rare non-missionary who goes to Africa: my whole family developed a strong hatred for missionaries while living there. I lived there for 4 years, from ages 13-17, but had to move back a year early. My mom, dad, and little sibling lived there for 5 years, with my sibling between the ages of 9-14.

It’s a large part of why I can’t drive now, (my parents would rather die than teach me to drive on the potholed roads with a broken car) but it was a great experience and I wouldn’t change it for the world. That’s why I have “mzungu” in my bio: it’s my way to honor who I was when I started this blog, in 2015. East Africa was a fundamental part of my identity, and I like to think someday I’ll be able to afford to visit.

Help a trans black man get to work!

I recently (2/8!) received an offer from a dispensary. However, to work there, I need to apply for a Real Agent ID which is 77USD for registration. Fingerprints are also required from the job which is 50USD. Unfortunately, these have to be paid for out of my own pocket. But I am so ridiculously broke it's... ridiculous.

So I am raising some funds to cover these expenses. Anything helps! My start date is 2/13 so a bit of a time crunch. As always, asante sana and donate to women and families first!
