I enjoyed the lgbtq+ Hallmark movies playing in the middle of the night while everyone else was asleep.

I got to have a mini movie marathon in peace.

I really appreciate the conversation that Sam and Kathleen had towards the end, about how marriage and kids were always an option for her but not for him because he's gay. and then to have their entire families celebrating them! I loved it so much!

The Holiday Sitter (2022)

An uncle is convinced to take care of his sister’s children during a family emergency over Christmas instead of going to Hawaii. With a little help from the neignbour he finds that family life isn’t so bad, and may just find love along the way.

So many Chrismas films follow a basic formula, which is fair in the way that so many of the audience are either so young that they will only follow a plot they’ve seen many times before or are so half-cut that they need it basic to coddle their alcohol-addled brains. Either way this movie still fulfills the function of challenging even those limited views.

By 2022 it feels so late to be introducing some of the first mainstream Crhistmas movies. To the point where the independent gay cinema makers are much further along in their development and these studios are starting from basics by imposing straight romance structures on gay movies which just do not have the same context, even in modern times.

A lot of the comedy felt very forces and that was partly due to the acting which felt just the wrong side of awkward on the lead’s part. One has to play awkward comedies somewhat seriously so that the drama has an impact by contrast. The younger actors were fairly compentent and that lead love interest was decent and had vibrant eyes which dommanged the gaze of the audience.

Overall the romance was acceptable but the part where the transactional element was discarded in a way that would be obviously discovered was a little bit of a ploy and communication is a lot more healthy than passive aggression, especially when the protagonist had shown every sign of character development.

5/10 -Can’t find a better example of average-

Just watched The Holiday Sitter...and look it's a Hallmark movie through and through, but it's a gay Christmas movie.

It was just what you expect, cringey and cheesy, instant attraction, lots of lights and decorations, meh acting, and a predictable plot. It was also quite cute. Both of the leads are also queer IRL which is always a plus. Definitely worth the watch.
