Book Rec
I've really got Star Trek on the brain lately so here's another great one!
The Higher Frontier by Christopher L. Bennett is a fantastic deep dive into diversity and inclusion. I read it back in March of 2021 and found it so healing - a little pocket of healthy sanity in our fucked up world. The book has lots of race and cultural variety. Only the smallest touch of LGBTQ+ representation, but it's present very powerfully in the metaphors. The fight scenes were awesome! And... and somehow managed to make me sad when OC redshirts got killed off? How. Howwww did you do that?? There are a LOT of great callbacks to events in the series in relevant and sometimes rather amusing ways. Could have done with more Spock, but, like, when is that ever NOT true. Overall: quality writing, kickass narrator for the audiobook, solid plot, can't actually find anything to complain about!
Available in print and audiobook!
Don't forget to check out your local library for a wealth of free reading, watching, and listening!

Some VR photos from a recent avatar! The Digimon RP I'm in has gotten super interesting, and something may or may not be planned with my character involving this..

welp, I've reached the point where I'm genuinely considering starting a new save file in FoP. I've been in the mood to play lately but until the new story packs come out (which I think is supposed to be over the summer) there's just not really anything left to do in my current save, other than Kukulope's daily/weekly challenges which are usually pretty easy.
On the one hand it'll be fun having real quests again, and early game should go a lot smoother than it did the first time now that I have a better understanding of the controls and mechanics. On the other hand though, having all the skills/stats reset, low-level weapons/gear, and the map re-polluted is gonna suck 😅 and there's definitely a handful of quests that I remember really struggling with that I am not looking forward to repeating. Well...we shall see

i wonder what scarlet child mc's relationship with some of the senior staff would be? Especially Clef
You first met Kondraki when he's there to renew your picture for your document, you guessed.
"How is Draven?" Asked you to make a small talk; he tensed.
"Fine." "How about James?" The man looked up from his camera, "who?"
A soft smile on your face contrasts with his frown. "Not yet then." It's better to leave some things in the dark.
It's been many years since you were born. You're a teen now, you think, contrary to what the people believe; you are not omniscient. It's weird, you're supposed to be an adult yet your body said otherwise. They had given you the privilege to roam without a guard breathing down your neck every second, cooperation and good behaviour does wonders. It's easy now for you to do stuff beyond your so called privilege. While usually the anxiety is ever so present, there's barely any crawling.
You wanted to meet Meri, your sister; physically, not through dream. You wanted to meet 999, your brother. You do not want to meet 682, nor Clef, ever. But does the universe ever gives you what you want?
He knows immediately. Type Green meets Type Green. Clef is technically your dad too, right? It's weird. You hoped he cared enough about a child he never hold for him to not snitch on their ass.
"You—" "Hi there, I believe you're my dad?" He let out an ugly snort immediately; almost dropping his ukulele.
You didn't even let him reply your first question. "Do you think they'll let me meet Meri one day?" "Do you think they're that generous, kid?"
"is that a no, then?" You tilted your head.
Clef grinned, ah, there's the third eye. "Did I ever said no?"
(Not a senior researcher but bear with me okay I love talloran)
Being an adult that's supposed to be older than your supposed current age is truly an odd experience. It's the Foundation after all, you guessed. Well, it's certainly weirder than facing the famous Talloran though scarless and with shorter hair; 3999 must had not yet happen then. You wonder if Kondraki had yet killed himself or not.
"I think it's better for you to quit." He looked quite jumpscared by you suddenly talking. "W-wh—are you talking to me?" Does he know you're an SCP under the tactical gear you are wearing by the way?
"I just think you shouldn't girlboss too hard or close to the sun, you know."
"What does that even mean??"
"Your boyfriend's here; think about it, okay?" And you left without uttering a single goodbye.

You know what’s hilarious about the game awards as a Sonic and Genshin fan?
The Sonic community as a whole are still so incredibly pissed and are dealing with internal fighting but within the Genshin player base, the Scarantion voted and weren’t involved in the bs that went down between the Chinese Genshin fanbase and the racists within the Sonic Frontiers community. As a whole, the Scaranation are completely unfazed because there’s there’s so many of us who waited these last few years & voted to get rewards from Hoyoverse for the baby girl.
Myself included, I didn’t even hear about the full extent of what went down until 48hrs after the fact and I genuinely voted to obtain the big hat scrunkly because I still don’t trust Sega to respect the Sonic players still and actually give good in game rewards + I know the f2p farming in Genshin is hell.
It’s hilarious because there’s Sonic stans on here that are raging under the year end review ads on here that say “Genshin Impact Character” but if you look at the Genshin player replies, under the same ads, they’re not acknowledging the Sonic stans at all. And then there’s Scaranation talking about baby names, not giving an absolute fuck. It’s so funny.

I don’t have Spotify, but according to YouTube, my most listened to song was Yes, Capes by @chongoblog ! Which makes sense. I spent the beginning of the year just exclusively listening to it

sonic frontiers dlc has been conquered !
and as is tradition for most(if not all) fully 3D sonic games, the most difficult enemy to conquer on any playable character is the camera angle lmao

CNN:
Hundreds of families gathered in the West Darfur capital of El Geneina on June 15, plotting their escape from what had become a hellscape of blown-out buildings scrawled with racist graffiti and streets strewn with corpses. The state governor had just been executed and mutilated by Arab militia groups, leaving civilians with no choice but to flee.
What followed was a gruesome massacre, eyewitnesses said, believed to be one of the most violent incidents in the genocide-scarred Sudanese region’s history. The powerful paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and its allied militias hunted down non-Arab people in various parts of the city and surrounding desert region, leaving hundreds dead as they ran for their lives…
…residents set off en masse from southern El Geneina, many trying to reach the nearby Sudanese military headquarters where they thought they might find safety. But they said they were quickly thwarted by RSF attacks. Some were summarily executed in the streets, survivors said. Others died in a mass drowning incident, shot at as they attempted to cross a river. Many of those who managed to make it out were ambushed near the border with Chad, forced to sit in the sand before being told to run to safety as they were sprayed with bullets.
“More than 1,000 people were killed on June 15. I was collecting bodies on that day. I collected a huge number,” one local humanitarian worker, who asked not to be named for security reasons, told CNN. He said the dead were buried in five different mass graves in and around the city.
Conflict erupted between the RSF and the Sudanese army in April. Since then, more than one million people have fled to neighboring countries, according to estimates from the International Organization for Migration.
Now, a telecommunications blackout and the flight of international aid groups have all but cut off Darfur from the outside world. But news of the June 15 massacre began trickling out of the region from refugees who escaped to Chad. The evidence uncovered by CNN suggests that, behind a curtain of secrecy, the RSF and its allies are waging an indiscriminate campaign of widespread killings and sexual violence unlike anything the region has seen in decades.
The RSF’s official spokesperson told CNN that it “categorically” denied the allegations.
“To say you were Masalit was a death sentence,” said Jamal Khamiss, a human rights lawyer, referring to his non-Arab tribe, one of the biggest in Darfur. Khamiss was among those who said that they fled from El Geneina to Chad, surviving a series of RSF and allied militia positions by concealing his ethnicity.
The United Nations raised the alarm in June over ethnic targeting and killing of people from the Masalit community in El Geneina, after reports of summary executions and “persistent hate speech,” including calls to kill or expel them.
The vast majority of those who managed to make it out of El Geneina alive sought refuge in the Chadian border town of Adre, about 22 miles (35 kilometers) away from the city.
On June 15, the town received the highest number of migrants in a single day, along with the highest number of casualties — 261 — since the Sudan conflict broke out, according to Doctors Without Borders, widely known by its French name, Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), which runs the only hospital in Adre. The number of wounded people that arrived at the hospital was even higher the next day: 387.
“The last time we recorded the death toll in Geneina it was 884,” one local humanitarian worker from El Geneina, who works for a Western non-profit organization, told CNN. “That was June 9. After June 9, it was a different story. The dead became uncountable.”
Action Against Hunger is accepting donations to provide health, sanitation and nutrition services to Sudanese refugees in Chad.
