The Gracefield Incident (2017)
Something that would be just another average found footage film, if not for the bad CGI, horrible day-for-night shots, unnecessary exposition, and just enough Tragic Backstory™ to make you feel sorry for the screenwriter and their poor understanding of character development..

The gracefield incident gets a A+ b-movie in my books because they said fuck conventional alien abduction tropes these aliens cant speak your language so they abducted your smelly naked friends and held them hostage because humans are hard to communicate with and they needed leverage to get their baby back.

100 Horror Movies in 92 Days 2024
Helloooo beasties and ghouls! It is that time once again, where I undertake the challenge and watch a HUGE chunk of horror in just three months!
The rules are simple- starting August 1st and ending on Halloween, I have to find and watch at least 100 horror movies that I have never seen before!
Like last year, reviews will probably be on hold until the challenge ends, and also like last year, I'll be reblogging this post with my list as I complete them! (I will also be keeping up with them on Letterboxd, I am Webbyghost there as well).
Unlike last year, though, I might liveblog some of them! If I do that, they'll be tagged with #Webbyliveblogshorror along with the name of the movie.
If any of you guys are also doing the challenge or have movies to suggest then by all means hit me up!

Gracefield Incident
Today I watched the found footage horror movie Gracefield Incident (YouTube)
I didn't finish it. I stopped at around 37min.
It was a bit too dumb for my taste.
The acting was so-so, but the writing, especially on a human level, was so bad. They didn't act like actual human people. In the bad way, not the "oooh, maybe they're aliens" way. And it was a bit sexist, too. I just didn't want to waste my time with it any further.
2/10
Pros:
Creative camera placement
Gets to the point/action quickly
Cons:
Really bad writing
Unlikable characters
Sexism
The dog dies (probably)
Story write up under the cut
My advice, if you want a good alien (abduction) found footage movie, try The McPherson Tape (1998, also Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County). Old, but really good and a terrifying first watch for me.
At first I had a bit of high hope, it didn't start that bad. The main protagonist is missing an eye, and he crafts himself an artifical eye with a built-in camera. That's creative! Not realistic, but cool. I liked that!
So then the story goes that him and his wife (and their dog) meet up with friends (honestly, I don't even know how many, they were all generic white people, and my face blindness set in. I think in total they were three couples) and they drive into the woods to spend the weekend at a cabin main guy's boss was nice enough to let them use. How did they repay that kindness? By making fun of the boss every chance they got because apparently boss believes in Big Foot.
Suffice to say, the group were typical party college kids. When they picked up one couple, one bro already in the car zoomed in on the woman and he drooled and exclaimed how hot she was. That should have been a red flag.
They arrive at the cabin, each party taking a room, main couple immediately talking about how much they wanna fuck (ugh, allos, I swear), BUT I have to say, I liked that the movie didn't waste any time. While they talked about sex and started partying, it didn't linger on that, no 40min of party or sex, it was less than 5min, to set the stage, and then it immediately started with the action.
The action being a meteor falling down, soaring directly over their cabin and landing somewhere in the woods. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. It was bigger than the one in Russia, but didn't cause an impact crater, just a tiny hole. Hang on tightly to your suspension of disbelief!
Earlier in the movie a news report was shown about an unknown object colliding with a satellite, so they think it's a piece of said satellite and they venture into the woods to investigate. Well, the men do, "the girls should stay in the cabin". Ah.
Off they go, finding the aforementioned hole, retrieving the meteor. Which isn't hot, but cold. What is physics? And of course, as any rational person would, they just take it with them. On their way back they see figures, hear the dog whimper (yep...) and find one of the dudebros phone in a cave, acting all weird.
Main guy goes to pick it up, but is thwarted by a big, somewhat slimy looking dark hand grabbing his arm. They book it to the cabin, wondering if it's Big Foot. (really? Unknown object in space, meteor, and you geniuses think Big Foot??) Main guy then says they shouldn't tell the girls anything, they would only panic. Hrm.
So they don't. Main guy and wife have a fight because she wants a family (read: children) but he's not sure. She goes to have bath and screams when something hits the window. Main guy rushes in, sees broken window, another bro and his girlfriend also rush in. While wife is still in the bath, naked. He's not even pretending to turn around or anything.
After, main guy and his supposed best friend have a drink and best friend drops a grandious piece of wisdom. See, in this conversation it transpires that main guy and wife already had a baby, but that baby died and he doesn't know if he wants to risk it again. Best bud's advice? "Lots of people lose a baby. Just get over it and make a new one."
To his credit, main guy storms off.
And that's where I turned it off.

THE GRACEFIELD INCIDENT (2017)
This is streaming on Amazon Prime.  It’s bad. Actually, it’s more silly than bad, but that’s just as…bad, isn’t it?
Tumblr media
We start off with a man driving his pregnant wife to her next prenatal appointment, but a car hits them in her baby and in his eye, and they lose both.  A few months later they’re going to a cabin in the woods with some friends, and he takes apart an iPhone and inserts the camera into his prosthetic eye. One of the friends also has a nice camera with a big light atop it, so-you guessed it-this is a “found footage” movie.
Tumblr media
Anywho, all of the male characters are borderline unlikeable.  Two of the female characters seem pleasant, but of course we barely get to see them. They all arrive at the cabin in the Canadian woods.  It’s gorgeous.  That evening, a meteorite streaks overhand and lands in the forest, and two of the dudes go out and retrieve it.  After that, you know, ALIUM.  It’s all CG, and the effects range from “okay” to “not acceptable,” as the characters run around in the forest, run around in the cabin, run around in the forest, run around in the cornfield, etcetera.  Basically, the AYLMAO wants the meteorite back because it’s an egg.  The baby alien is adorable, and the majestic alien ship leaves in a scene reminiscent of the climax of “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” (1977), but that was a good movie and this isn’t.  All of the missing people are returned, the couple have another baby, and THE END.
Tumblr media
There are no spooks because the plot just doesn’t make any sense.  At first, we have a creepy alien hunting them through the forest, and we know that it wants the meteorite back.  There’s some potential here.  However, it soon reveals the power to unlock doors, play with electronics, lift people up into the air, and other things of that fantastical nature, yet we’re somehow supposed to believe that it just can’t pick up the house and shake it around until the egg falls out?  This is just people running around, screaming, and making stupid decisions.  It all goes on for far too long.  Not recommended.

“Oh Mister Moreau I know some GREAT movies that you would love. Repo! The Genetic Opera, The Relic (1987), Arachnid (1990), Shakma, and The Gracefield Incident are some of my favorites. We should totally have a movie night!”
Oh! That sounds great

The Gracefield Incident (2017)... more b-movie found footage fare for me to sit through and wonder why i even bother. however, on this occasion, this rare occasion, i was quite impressed. it’s nothing you haven’t seen before in terms of formula, but it did honestly keep me interested. the grizzly was pretty good, and it did make me jump a few times. throw in a reasonably interesting little revelation at the end, and it all wrapped up rather well

The Gracefield Incident
Saved from being completely terrible by a last-act twist that I didn't see coming, but that still only takes it from a C to a C+. There is a good movie in here, but I think the found footage format harmed it overall.

The movie plot was good but the acting was a bit cheesy it. the movie is about  three couples who are spending a long weekend in a luxurious cabin when suddenly an uninvited guest in the form of a meteorite, comes crashing the party... the kill count for this movie is 6. Stay creepy guys, xoxo Logan
