I was asked to share the "OCTOBEAR" series I did last October. I dressed up a teddy bear I named BOWIE because they are genderfluid and it seemed an appropriate name for a genderfluid teddy bear.

Each day, I would paint Bowie in a different costume for OCTOBEAR and I think everyone really liked it. Bowie dressed up as a Ghost, Michael Jackson's Thriller, Wednesday Addams, Jareth the Goblin King, Jason, Coraline, The Bride of Frankenstein, Winifred Sanderson, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands (though they called themselves "Tedward Safetyscissorpaws", Sally, Freddy Fazbear, and on the last day, Bowie dressed up as Gomez Addams with their friend Octavia from the previous year's "OCTOBrrr"dressed up as Morticia Addams. Aren't they a lovely couple?

The Goblin King

Summary: Halloween in Gryffindors tower with the marauders, you find yourself face to face with your crush dressed as your fictional crush and it’s too hot to handle.

Tags: Fluff, fun, maybe tini tiny suggestive, goofy ass Sirius black, reader x Remus Lupin, but of fun flirting.

Halloween, a fun time of year, but a dangerous one you were coming to find out. Gryffindor's usual rager was in full swing as you joined the party decked out in your zombie bride costume.

“Hi James,” you smiled, greeting him from underneath his costume, which was just a white sheet with holes cut out for eyes.

“How’d you know it was me?”

“Lucky guess, where’s your other halves?”

“Well Sirius is getting drinks, he’s already relatively drunk, Peter is over by the couches and Remus is still upstairs.”

“Is he coming down here any time soon?”

“Yeah I'm sure he is, you know him though he insisted on finishing his classwork first.”

“You act like that's unreasonable,” you laugh.

“(Y/n)!” You hear Sirius shout from behind you as he slings his arm over your shoulder. He had on a pretty elaborate Dracula costume with white face paint, fake blood and a dark cape.

“Oh I got you so good, your face is gonna be priceless. Here take this, you’ll need it.” He slings a drink in your hand, nearly spilling it on you in the process.

“What am I so unprepared for Sirius that I need a drink?”

“Oh you’ll see when moony gets down here.” He let out a feral laugh

You shook your head and laughed as you took a sip of the drink he handed you. At times like this it’s best to just let Sirius be Sirius and not stress yourself out.

James stretched his hand under his sheet and pointed behind you. “Look he's coming down now.”

Sirius jumped off you in excitement, you simply laughed taking a swig of your drink as you turned around to see what all the fuss was about.

Tall, very handsome, smart, sarcastic, handsome (have you said handsome yet?) Remus Lupin was coming down the stairs from the Gryffindor dorms dressed as the one and only Goblin King, tight pants and all.

You began to cough and choke on your drink you had just taken a sip of and just in your peripheral you could see a flash as Sirius took your photo.

“Hey (y/n) are you ok?” Remus said coming to your side from the stairs.

You waved him off and turned around to get a hold of yourself. Once you stopped coughing you downed the rest of your drink and handed it off to James before facing Remus again.

You thought you had a grip on yourself, but you stared for a moment as you felt your mouth go agape and your eye get lost in the site in front of you.

“(y/n) are you ok?” He asked again

You snapped out of it as Sirius pushed in front of you to take your photo once more.

“Give me that.” You attempted to grab his stupid camera from him, but he dodged you and ran away.

“Thank me later!” He shouted as he jumped over the couches

“Sorry about him, I don’t know what he's on.” Remus shook his head.

“Yeah me either.” You lied through your teeth. You knew, Sirius knew, pretty much anyone in the room with eyes probably knew. But you had not too long ago confessed to Sirius your crush on David Bowie’s portrayal of the goblin king, and of course, he long since knew you had a crush on Remus.

“You seemed spaced out.” Remus said, drawing your focus to him and away from his costume. It was hard not to stare as your mind raced off with unfriendly thoughts.

“Sorry, I’m just… I um,” You could feel your face heat up as you stuttered, “I um... Like your costume.”

“Thank you, I wasn’t fully committed to it, but Sirius convinced me to go all out.”

“Of course he did.” You laughed moving your eyes to anything else in the room than the man in front of you.

“(Y/n)?”

“Hmm,” you tried to remain oblivious to him as you continued to look anywhere but at him.

“(y/n),” This time his hand came up to your chin and forced your eyes to meet his. “Am I making you nervous?” He laughed a little as he looked down at you with a knowing grin. Damn him, you could just melt.

“No” You stuttered out trying to look away again.

“Oh my god, you like the goblin king don't you?”

“What, no, shut up” You laughed covering your face with your hands in embarrassment.

“Hold on, no judgment from me sweetheart. Sirius told me long ago about it.” He pulled your wrist away from your face and kissed your palm. “If it helps I’m only teasing, you make me nervous every day I’m just returning the favor.” Now you were really melting.

“I make you nervous.” You looked up at him through your lashes, and he softly rubbed your wrists

“All the time.”

When did the room get this hot?

“I know I just got here, but do you wanna get out of here?”

Your mouth hung in disbelief, how did you get to this moment?

“Yes.”

Remus smiled, grabbing your hand and pulling you through the crowd back towards the entrance as you both dove out into the hallway giggling as you went.

Movie Nights

(couldn't think of another title lol) just a simple little sleepy mike schmidt blurb, no pronouns used, 0.3k

“So…what did we think about The Princess Bride?” You clicked the power button to turn off the TV sitting on top of your dresser. 

“It was alright, I guess. I’m not a fan of cheesy 80’s rom-coms.” He shrugged, looking at you through half-lidded eyes.

“Really? ‘Cause I saw those watery eyes when we got to the final fight between Inigo and Count Rugen.” You leered at him.

“Yeah, sure, I think you’re just making things up.” He narrowed his eyes at you, giving a playful smirk back.

“Alright, now it’s your turn to pick out the movie for next week.” You flopped down onto the bed and tucked yourself under the sheets.

“We’ll be watching the Labyrinth.” A tired grin spread across his face.

“Isn't that one with David Bowie?” You sat up on your side and rested your head on your hand, your elbow poking into the pillow.

“Yeah. He plays Jareth, the goblin king.” His voice became sluggish.

“Goblin king? Really?” You chuckled.

“Oh come on, you pick out a cheesy 80s movie, I pick out a cheesy 80s movie.” He yawned. “I think you’ll like it.” His eyes slowly closed and he nuzzled his face into the pillow slightly.

“You’re falling asleep.” You giggled. 

“No I’m not, I’m just resting my eyes.” He muttered.

“Really?” You teased.

“Mhm.” He nodded. You just smiled and looked at his face smushed into the pillow.

“So the Labyrinth for the next Friday night movie?” He didn’t respond, he was already knocked out. 

You let out a small laugh to yourself, gently combing pieces of his messy brown curls aside to give him the most gentle kiss possible on his forehead, hoping you wouldn’t wake him up.

“Goodnight, Mike.” You whispered. Smiling as you laid your head back down on the pillow, looking at him one more time before closing your eyes and drifting off to sleep.

Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Fairies - Heather Fawcett - EXCELLENT COSY FANTASY. Emily is an autistic queen, Shadow is best boy, and Wendell is dramatic and flashy and I love him. Read if you like the Howl and Sophie (book version!!) dynamic or scary fairies more in line with the way they're presented in folklore.

The Fifth Season - N. K. Jemisin - CHANGED MY LIFE I THINK ABOUT THIS BOOK AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK. I literally don't know how to talk about the actual plot without giving things away but holy shit. just read it it's so good. Please investigate any trigger content that might be in this it has a lot!

Longshadow - Olivia Atwater - COSY REGENCY FANTASY ROMANCE!!! Honestly, any of Olivia Atwater's regency fairytales are super cute.

Mexican Gothic - Silvia Moreno-Garcia - Gothic heroines a la Jane Eyre combined with 1950's mexico. an excellent horror that has a surprisingly wholesome and endearing romance within it. 

His Majesty's Dragon - Naomi Novik - NAPOLEONIC WARS BUT THERE ARE DRAGONS. This is the first in a series and because there are a fair amount of them the books themselves can seem a little slow paced but I didn't mind it. 

A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking - T. Kingfisher - BREAD WIZARD AND HER GINGERBREAD MAN FAMILIAR SAVE THE FUCKING TOWN. really good look at how children navigate an adult world and the unfair expectations placed on them.

The Warm Hands of Ghosts - Katherine Arden - exploration of a brother and sister's experiences in world war i. The prose and character study in this are incredible.

I have a few Fairytale ideas that I’d like to share to see your opinion on them and if their interesting or not (And some ideas from Movies)

Grim Yandere Tales

Hansel and Gretel (NO incest!): Reader is the mother who takes her children and runs from her abusive husband, with Leone and/or Bruno as the Witch (She adopted her children, who are Giorno, Narancia and maybe Trish)

Aladdin (I think you’ll like this): Reader is the street rat, Diavolo is the Sultan, Giorno and Bruno are visiting Royalty (Who plan to try and free Diavolo’s people either by killing him or taking his throne), Risotto is the sorcerer and Mista is the Genie

Thumbelina: Reader is a small human who was discovered by the Fairy Prince Bruno, only to be seen by Risotto/Doppio who’s either a normal human or a Dark Fae who wants her for himself

Dracula: Count Risotto and Bruno (With Reader being his fiancée)

Sleepy Hollow: Dio as the Headless Horseman

I mentioned Diavolo, Bruno and Risotto a lot because there my favorites (It’s hard to stray from them)

I'm sorry I took so long to respond, been really busy lately packing.

I've actually had ideas for thumbelina and and corpse bride for a while now but never managed to get them written down so I'll cover those first

Thumbalina

I was thinking that Bruno would attempt to save darling. Thinking that they were another fae captured by a human. Darling explains the situation. It's revealed they're a fae who'd probably been taken far from their home. Bruno offers to take Darling back with him so they can be where they belong and get a pair of wings. Darling is hesitant on the idea and tells him they need a week to decide.

During that week two things could happen.

Another fae named doppio meets darling. Reader is unaware he's a dark fae, so when he asks them to help him and that he'll return them home straight after they agree non the wiser

Or

Darling is discovered by Risotto after their mother leaves for an emergency and is quickly snatched away. Initially he's looking to sell them for money but soon starts to fall for them and decides to keep them for himself

Corpse bride

Honestly I think Fugo. He was born into a wealthy lifestyle but could not stand the family around him. Believed he'd found love but in reality it was all a set up that lead to his death.

Darling is forced into marrying into wealth but doesn't want to. Tries running away into the forest and comes in possession of the now cursed ring originally meant for that first love that causes him to awaken and subsequently gets trapped in the underworld.

Hansel and Gretel

Ok so reader initially ran and hid away in a town. During this she took in the three. Their upbringings similar to canon. Narancia is 10 and had an eye infection that Darling was trying to earn the money to treat. Giorno and Trish are 8.

After being found by their ex again they run in the forest in night. For what seems like hours they keep going until they find a house with a door wide open and lights on.

They all go inside and call out to the owner but no response. Darling would try to leave but it's evident that the kids are too tired to keep running. So Darling decides to tuck them into one of the beds and wait for the owner to explain, however they fall asleep shortly after.

Now it could be either or a poly situation with both.

Bruno would be more outwardly willing to help while Abbacchio though still helping would be a bit more stern.

Darling wakes up in the morning where they meet the house owner and explain the situation. They're offered the spare bedrooms to stay in. Darling initially refuses the offer as they have to keep running. The kids wake up and it's immediately noticed that narancias eye's swelling has reduced. And that is how Darling would be hooked into staying.

Aladdin

Darling and her family used to be farmers but after harsh heatwaves are left with little to nothing left and Diavolo the newly crowned sultan attempts to arrange a marriage with darling but due to their hatred of the new sultan they refuse. After stealing food from traders they're caught and imprisoned and Risotto confronts them. He explains that he too hates Diavolo and that if darling were to help him retrieve a powerful artifact that he would offer them enough riches to let their family live without working another day in their life when he takes over.

So darling agrees but only if he allows them ownership of a particularly expensive ring he has until he fulfills his end of the deal.

So darling helps Risotto grab the artifact, some old lamp that they don't see any purpose of. As they're about to leave Risotto attempts to help them escape but the floor caves beneath darling and they fall in and he leaves.

Awhile after darling is found by Giorno and Bruno who have ropes to help darling escape and bring them back into town. They reveal they're both royalty from another land who've come to try and establish a trade route. However upon entering town they're meet by Diavolo who quickly has darling arrested, telling them that they're luck they weren't attacked as they have a record of stealing from traders and the like. The lamp being left in the hands of the two.

Dracula

Bruno and darling come to transylvania after receiving a letter from count Nero who wants to relocate to London and help with selling the castle.

They arrive and discuss with the count. Bruno and darling discuss the state of the castle and come to the conclusion that sell to the count will be easy however it'd take some work to clean areas of the castle to get photos good enough to try and convince potential buyers.

They're warned not to leave the bedroom at night however one night darling hears a scream in the night. Bruno is still asleep so they investigate on their own. They encounter Risotto while he's feasting and is pretty much frozen in fear. The next morning Bruno finds that both his fiancee and the count are gone. Bruno investigates only to find a journal written by the count that reveals the truth.

Headless horsemen

(Have not watched sleepy hollow unfortunately)

Darling is an aspiring novelist who moves into a small town after getting inheritance. They hope that the local legends will fuel their inspiration. Locals warn them they shouldn't be outside at nightfall. They investigate one night and grabbed by who the locals refer to as the headless horseman and dragged into the thick fog.

Jekyll and Hyde

Bruno is a detective who is trying to solve a string of crimes connected to a mysterious Diavolo. Darling a close friend to both bruno and Doppio (though doppio and bruno are only acquainted) begins to get stalked and eventually kidnapped. Now Doppio needs to hide them away from investigators as if he doesn't Diavolo vow to ruin their lives.

Labyrinth

I'd probably say Diavolo is best for the role of Jareth. Honestly this one will probably be as close to the movie as it gets from me.

Giorno and darling are taking a stroll through the forest when all of a sudden the weather changes to a harsh snow storm and are separated. Darling stumbles across the scene of doppio and the unicorn, hearing what he says to himself they decide to follow the man back to the castle after hearing all that is needed they attempt to leave only to be caught by Doppio.

Originally locked in the dungeon she is eventually moved to a room in the castle and is free to wonder. Given various gifts with letters of proposal until Diavolo decides to meet her in person.

Why I believe Bog is part Fae and what does it say about the Fairy Land and Dark Forest societies

One of the most noticeable things about Bog when we compare him to other Dark Forest Folks is that he has wings.

No one else in his Kingdom is seen with wing outside of firefly mount. and the only other species to have wings are fairies in the Fairy Land kingdom.

But you're going to tell me it's a bit of a weak theory and in itself yes if I didn't have any other proof. Griselda wear clothes.

and why is it important ? Because no one is the Dark Forest wear clothe, Bog technically doesn't wear clothes either and he is King (he as a bit of armor at best). But who else wear clothes ? The Fairy Land folks. You don't see any of Bog army wear clothes nor pretty much anyone in the Kingdom except :

One of the potential bride Griselda want to present to her son. Griselda was Queen (technically still is). Bog is King so the lady he decide to mary would become Queen so those ladies must be high society.

We never really get an explanation about why the Dark Forest and Fairy Land kingdom are at odd. But the language proximity (because I'm gonna take that as a real intention) show the two populations to have been close if not one for a long time and only recently parted.

One of the reason might have been the drastically different ecosystem of the meadow and forest which lead to branching evolution and different flora and fauna.

There might have been a conflict birthing when one part of the fairies melded with goblin and elves (DF) and another part rejected the idea (FL) it broke the society in two. In Fairy Land royalty stayed "pure" fairies and elves are clearly below them in society has there is no elves in the Fairy Land Kingdom party (Sunny being at odd here and won't be staying as a guest) :

In the Dark Forest, there is not really that separation. I believe as the fairies melded and had children with goblins and stayed in the Dark Forest, their appearence changed and culture too. No one in the DF look like the fairies in the FL, but Bog is tall and slend just like FL Fairies, that ant-like lady is tall and slend too. Griselda and that other lady wear clothes and even if it seem to be a rare thing its present and it call back to the FL society and habit.

Which prompt me to ask why would the DF fairies stop wearing clothes ? because as they blended with the goblin, their bodies stopped showing sexual attribute (read breast and genital) the one that wear clothes might do so because they still show those attribute.

They also lost their wings and I believe it's mostly because of the environnement. Bog is the only one to have wings in his kingdom, they are thin and damaged. and I believe that's because the fairies that stayed in the DF kept damaging their wings, this attribute started to become rarer and rarer. the FL is a meadow, there is more wind and less obstacles, flying would also be a faster, whiles in the forest you can go easier on foot because there is always roots and branches and plants to ease your way on feet and find shortcut and flying is harder/less free.

You can also look at ears, as some goblin do have fairy like ears

So, the DF society became what is was thanks to tolerance of interspecies relationship and acceptance of less conventionnal beauty standard countrary to what we see in FL. Bog thinking he is too ugly to be loved might be because out of every DF folks we see he looks the most like a fairy.

The FL society kept a distance between species, the King reaction (fainting) to Dawn and Sunny is very telling that normally elves and fairies relationship is a "no no". The FL fairies almost all look the same, their appearence is very even and it pushes for a certain specific beauty standard.

We can hope Dawn and Sunny relationship to prompt the same tolerance that made the DF folks what they are.
