I am physically shaking I read the most wonderful graphic novel to ever grace my eyes and there is no fandom. None. Just a person wirh a singular fanart from a year ago. It doesn’t even have a tag on Ao3. This book changed my life and no one is there to witness it.
What is this cruel form of torture.
(Go read ‘The Ghostkeeper’ by Johanna Taylor you will not regret it)

I recently checked out The Ghostkeeper by Johanna Taylor. This was a really cool story.
Johanna did the story and the artwork in this book, and they paired very well together. This YA novel is perfect for anyone into ghost stories.
The Ghostkeeper follows the story of Dorian Leith who can see and talk to ghosts. He helps them try to move on to the afterlife by listening to and working with them on their problems. Then, the key to death’s door goes missing and all the ghosts are trapped.
How does Leith navigate being able to talk to ghosts, his best friend being his ghost grandma, and the cute boy at the bookshop without being completely ostracized by the village? Not too well!
Whenever I’m reading a book, I always think about if it could also work as a movie or a show. The Ghostkeeper would definitely work as an animated movie. It would be tremendous. The scenes with the ghosts could be colorful, beautiful, and frightening all at the same time.
This book is a lot of fun, and you should check it out.
Thank you Netgalley and Penguin Group Dutton for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Figured I’d introduce myself!
Hello there! I’m Juno (they/he) and I’m a teen with a goal to create a graphic novel. Starting with nothing more than the urge to create, a very specific aesthetic, and a sparse Pinterest board, I’m going to be documenting my progress here. I’ll post updates whenever I do something, and in return you all can yell and me and keep me motivated! Yay!
(My main account is @Cynidae, but I mostly post fandom stuff there.)

My first read of 2025 was The Ghostkeeper by Johanna Taylor. It is a middle grade fantasy graphic novel that explores themes of grief, loss, loneliness, and abandonment. It also explores finding where you belong and healing and accepting others. Even if you’re not middle grade age, I feel like this would be a good book to help process grief and loss. Sometimes I think we forget that middle grade isn’t only for middle grade readers. I think this would help one process grief even more so than one written for adults because it’s a graphic novel. Things are in much easier to process terms and I’d definitely recommend.

Fanart for the AMAZING and CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED book The Ghostkeeper by @johannamation!!
Seriously, this fandom is like, nonexistent. Yeah, yeah, I know it only came out two months ago, but it still deserves some recognition!! GO SHOW THIS BOOK SOME LOVE!! It may very well be one of the best graphic novels I've ever read. I recently checked it out from my local library, and I hope I can get my own copy someday!!
Anyway, the first image is a sketch of Muffin, and the second one is a sketch of Dorian and Brody as cats (because I do NOT like drawing humans very much!!)
These characters make me SO happy!!
Sorry that the first image is so blurry, my camera wouldn't focus for whatever reason

Ghostkeeper (1981)
A move with a nice atmosphere and eerie secluded location, but not much else. There is a story, and in general it seems like it's going somewhere. Like, information is being given which feels like it is building up to something, but then it just doesn't, ending with a weak twist that feels like they ran out of money to film the real ending—incidentally, that is what the legends say is what happened.
4/10

I know most of my followers are fans of Underworld Office, and if you are then I tottally recommend this graphic novel!!! Not just because it has ghosts, but because stories about ghosts usually discuss simmilar things and explore emotions.
Anyways, the author is also on tumblr! @johannamation <3
