Rulue have you ever beaten multiple enemies at once?
"Ohoho~! But of course I have! They do not call me "Rulue, the Fighting Queen" for nothing after all!"
"Even without magical powers, the force of my Iron Fist attack has sent men and beast alike flying over 50 meters! My goal is to reach 100 meters by next spring~"
"I oft go adventuring, searching for precious treasure to bestow to my beloved Satan, and have defeated multiple foes with elegance and power."
"Oh~ My darling, maybe if you watched me spin kick your demon servants, you'd see that I could be the one to protect you..."

Quick, non-exhaustive list of things that happen in the Puyo Puyo Drama CDs:
Arle is inflicted with a curse that gives her magical Alzheimer's (NOT garden variety amnesia) by a faerie
We learn that Draco's pageant obsession stems from wanting more non-human representation in the beauty queen scene
We learn Lemres escaped an abusive household
Ms. Accord sends all her students into the forest to fight her demon cat for bickering in class
Ringo builds an altar to sacrifice chocolate to Ecolo across spacetime
We learn that Maguro was bullied as a kid until Ringo almost literally told him to "git gud" so his bullies just couldn't bully him anymore. And he did. At everything.
Power Rangers AU
Schezo tries to escape the Sega era because he thinks it's making him lose his edge, only to learn how to be a Sega anti-hero from Raffina instead
Ecolo accidentally shows us that Doppelganger Arle is not dead but just stranded in an alternate timeline version of Primp Town, then he gets Arle and Ringo stranded on an abandoned island in yet another dimension for 3 days
Arle has a fever dream about a mirror world where Schezo, Satan and Rulue are in a polycule
Amitie gets gaslit into almost losing her soul to a minor Madou Monogatari enemy encounter who wants to use her as a host body for her powerful magic
We learn that Yu and Rei's death was so terrifying that even Feli doesn't want to talk about it.
Ecolo loses the child in the divorce. Almost commits physical assault in retaliation.
Ringo tries to figure out what Ecolo is made of by drowning, burying and skewering him. Analysis results: "Heck if I know" And these are only SOME highlights. I love this series.

Rulue's pretty badass:
- She punches rocks. - Kicks the wind. - Fists iron. - Her knee explodes frequently yet she's still the Fighting Queen.

glad you asked!
*AUTISM MODE ENGAGE*
puyo puyo (ぷよぷよ) is a japanese puzzle game originally created by compile (but they went bankrupt) and owned by sega!
the series originally started as a spinoff of a dungeon crawling game called madou monogatari (I know jack diddly squat about madou). in puyo puyo the main characters of that game (as well as a few enemies) fight each other using magic spells casted by connecting 4 or more of the same colored puyos together to pop them!
the compile era of the puyo puyo series stars Arle from the madou monogatari series as the protagonist, where in most games she attempts to stop satan (that's actually the villain's name) from doing a bunch of evil stuff. arle's also got a magical rabbit thing as a companion, his name is carbuncle and he likes curry :) other characters from this era that continue to show up in newer games are schezo, a dark mage who accidentally turns every sentence into an innuendo, and rulue, a fighting queen who has a crush on satan.
psst! 3 of the compile era games are available on switch! sega ages puyo puyo 1 and 2 are both ten bucks and if you have nso you can play the snes version of 2 on snes online!
both sega and nintendo tried to localize these games, but in doing so, they stripped the games of their original madou monogatari personality and replaced them with other games. sega localized pp1 as a game you might recognize as Doctor Robotnick's Mean Bean Machine, while nintendo made the slightly more obscure Kirby's Avalanche (ALSO AVAILABLE ON SNES NSO!!)
a BUNCH of stuff happened, the localized games didn't do well, puyo puyo became more popular than madou, and compile went bankrupt after years of shoving puyo puyo down everyone's throats non-stop
they then handed the rights to puyo puyo to sega, but completely forgot about the rights to madou, meaning madou monogatari is completely dead at this point with no hope of a reboot, and puyo puyo is still goin strong.
when sega got puyo puyo they decided to completely rebrand the game, and it ditched it's dark dungeon crawler aesthetic for a more fun colorful vibrant tone, and thus, Puyo Pop Fever was born.
Fever was a sort of reboot for the franchise, starring a new protagonist named Amitie, a very cheerful student who goes to a magic school, and a bunch of more awesome colorful characters (and arle she's still here)! A sequel to puyo pop fever was released in japan called Puyo Puyo Fever 2, but due to the poor sales in the US, the game never made it over to america and this would be the last localized puyo game. for at least 10 years.
also puyo puyo fever 2 introduced sig!!! the best boy!!! fun fact he's half demon but does not care about that at all and instead of doing all the traditional demon things like taking over worlds he simply don't care. he's got the bug autism and likes bugs very much :)
uhh MORE TIME SKIP! another reboot was created called Puyo Puyo 7! New protagonist named Ringo who is a regular middle school student and does regular japanese middle schooler stuff until Arle comes back and is possessed by something and is all like "you have the power. you can pop puyos now." and crazy highjinks ensue!
ANOTHER TIME SKIP!
puyo puyo 15th anniversary is released and surprise surprise it's also a reboot but this time it features (almost) ALL the important characters from the previous games! woo! and then 5 years after that 20th anniversary happened which was much better!
*WHWHOOOOSH TIME SKIP*
a crossover game between puyo puyo and tetris called Puyo Puyo Tetris was released in 2014! remember this!
*FINAL TIME SKIP I PROMISE*
oh hey remember what I just said? guess what! it's 2017 and sega is acknowledging for the first time people in america want puyo puyo! they then release a localized version of puyo puyo tetris onto nintendo switch and other platforms and it's a hit! people liked it! they liked it so much that in 2020 it got a direct sequel which wasn't just left to rot in the prison of region exclusivity and actually got localized as well! hooray for puyo puyo!!
that's basically the entire puyo puyo series history in a nutshell *autism disengage*
there were some games I left out because this was getting too long but who cares
if you're looking to play a puyo puyo game and you own a nintendo switch you can try any of these!
Sega ages - Puyo Puyo: The arcade version of the original Puyo Puyo game.
Sega Ages - Puyo Puyo 2: Arcade version of the second game (text is all in japanese, but it's purchasable on the american eshop!)
Nintendo Switch Online - SNES Online - Super Puyo Puyo 2: The SNES version of puyo puyo 2
Nintendo Switch Online - SNES Online - Kirby's Avalanche: An attempt for an english localization of pp1 featuring iconic kirby characters!
NSO Expansion Pack - Sega Genesis Online - Doctor Robotnick's Mean Bean Machine: Another localization attempt, featuring robots from the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon! sonic does not make an appearance in this game.
Sonic Mania: One of the bosses in sonic mania has you playing Puyo Puyo against Eggman, and once you beat that boss you unlock a special mean bean machine side mode!
Puyo Puyo Champions: A puyo puyo game purely focused on competitive play, with no story. You can play using either normal puyo puyo rules, or the special ruleset introduced in fever.
Puyo Puyo Tetris: A crossover game between puyo puyo and tetris, featuring new characters based off the tetris blocks! Has a pretty ok story, the localizers took a few liberties here and there, sometimes they didn't understand the references to things and left them out.
Puyo Puyo Tetris 2: A direct sequel to the game I just mentioned. Improves upon the story alot, all the previous characters return as well as 2 new characters! There were also a few characters added in later through free dlc! Currently the second newest puyo puyo game, and also the second most definitive with a bunch of cool sidemodes!
Currently, the newest game in the series is Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop, which is THE definitive puyo puyo game! unfortunately it's stuck on apple arcade so you need an iphone, a bluetooth controller, and a subscription for that if you wanna play. this game technically is incomplete as the story is being added in through updates, but what they've got now is really interesting!! they're finally doing something with the "sig is half demon" concept and now he's the villain of the game! so cool! god I want this game ported to consoles so badly... SEGAAAA GIVE ME EDGY SIG!!!
there's also a japan exclusive mobile gacha game called puyo puyo quest. it's aight. I've played it once and then deleted it because gacha games update regularly and my phone is running low on space.
and that's everything about puyo puyo thanks for asking

"Colorful Sign 「Dazzling Color Typhoon」!"
Rainbow-colored shots curve and curve as they all come out from Meiling like a flower-like pattern.
All four of the otherworldly people have gotten themselves involved with the fight now.
"So, you have a good reason for getting into a fight with a guard, Rulue?" Arle would ask, dodging bullets
"Combination of two things. One, I'm lost and wished to check this mansion for things I needed. Two, this guard is supposedly a fist fighter. She seemed like a nice opponent for someone like me, the Fighting Queen."
"So you merely wished to raise your ego?!" He'd yell, slashing away the shots that'd come toward him.
"Absolutely not, you foolish swordsman!!"
"Says the foolish hag!!"
"Guu..." In the corner of Carbuncle's eye as he fired lasers at Meiling, he could see Rulue and Schezo duke it out with each other while dodging shots instead of fighting the gate's guard.

Late Primorial Age ancestry
So for those who don't know about this Puyo headcanon blog yet I am @rabbitriceball and I have made a headcanon timeline for the SEGA-era Puyo universe. It only has three ages compared to the infamous Madou Cronology's six: the Primorial Age, the Dawning Age, and the Modern Era (which is its own age). The war between humans and Heaven still happens, but it is different...let me just sum up history prior to this point.
Universe comes to existence, cosmic force comes to existence and expands universe, cosmic force creates a manifestation of itself in the form of a young girl, a goddess and god become born and fight each other, girl breaks up the fight and the two end up creating the Primorial Puyo Puyo world, angels are born, girl creates her brother as a companion, humans are born, the Constellation Zone is formed, some guy manages completes a decade long journey to the edge of the universe and gets awarded for it, Puyos come to exist, and what becomes Ringo's world becomes linked to the Puyo world.
and then the war happens.
As I said, what happened during the war is different to the Madou Chronology. First off, Dark Prince (Lucifer, as he was known back then) still participated in the war and managed to lose a few times and got cast out of heaven after the war ended as a result. Speaking of Lilith, she doesn't participate in the war at all. In this timeline, she was a child when this happened.
Anyway onto the ancestry, the thing that the title states to have. Marle and Squares aren't on here, they're obviously still here, and they've been around long before the war began. Carbuncle and Dark Prince/Lucifer exist around this time too, so they're not listed here either. Most of these guys live in like a village that existed before Arca or Primp did, and none of the residents there partake in the war. The Goddess of the Sun and God of the Moon also aren't taking sides and in fact were trying to find away to stop the war from happening.
Arle Nadja ← Lilith (quite the obvious one. Would end up helping the Goddess and God find a way to end the war and puts herself on a fetch quest for the Seraphim Orb)
Original demon (Cyan & Crimson Spirit's original form) ← A demon that the Goddess was once friends with. Would birth the demon that would split off into Sig's ancestor and Possesed Klug.
Amitie ← Goddess of the Sun (Would end up using the Seraphim Orb to split the world in to at the cost of her physical form. She regretted "dying" this way)
??? ← God of the Moon (rumors say he still exists in his true form, but he was grieved by the loss of the Goddess. He holds no grudge towards Lilith, since the Goddess brought her "death" on herself, and there are rumors circulating about a reincarnation existing in the present day somewhere...)
Klug ← A guy that wanted to write a famous book in ancient times.
Ms. Accord ← A teacher that Lilith went to to learn magic spells.
Lemres ← A wandering merchant who runs the only store in the village, much like the shopkeepers in Madou Monogatari. Like his descendant, he likes making sweets to give to people, which in this case is traditional Japanese sweets like dango and monaka.
Rulue ← A previous Fighting Queen.
And I think that's it until I can think of some more.

I wanna write Rulue better so I've been doing some thinking on why Rulue is so attracted to Satan/Dark Prince (whatever you call him, I will be referring to him as "Dark Prince") aside from him saving her in Madou Monogatari: ARS, which is more of an inciting cause for it (and a fairly justified one, if a handsome person saved me from near death, I would wish to see them again as well to properly thank them.)
But Rulue's feelings tend to go beyond the standard crush, especially since she knows more about who this is now. Half the reason she is willing to antagonize Arle is due to Dark Prince having romantic interest in her and not Rulue. Why do her feelings go so far for what is literally Puyo Satan? I don't think it is looks, as Rulue does not show any similar feelings to anyone else in the series. (One could feasibly argue with her interaction with Sig on her story in Puyo Puyo 15th anniversary, but to me it feels more similar to Ocean Prince trying to get people to be his servants and such. She's more interested in Sig's demon hand's power and his strength than anything. Besides, just compare how she talks to DP to that scene.)
And after doing a bit of thinking, well I don't think Rulue's blind to the fact DP is a complete dork.
In fact, I'm starting to think that is part of the charm. Look at it from this perspective. This tall, handsome guy who exudes a regal flair and can more than handle himself yet has a softer, vulnerable side and is clearly loyal to whoever he cares about (much to Rulue's and Arle's burden because the people DP do care about and love are Arle and Carby) who isn't afraid to goof around a little? Hell, he is not even that evil anymore despite his constant boasting, just kind of an all powerful manchild. And that, aside from that last comment, might be what Rulue finds most attractive. I like to think Rulue is more than aware of the fact DP is a grade-a dork underneath that "strapping, mad-capping" exterior (and the fact she sees him as that doesn't hurt either) and that's why she likes him. And since Rulue is hardly evil herself (though she is a jerk a lot of the times, antagonistic and selfish, she is never outright evil.) maybe she could want to change him a little too for the better? She is willing to go against him in some instances.
Not that Satan's ever going to reciprocate that sentiment, but at least he's polite enough to her and they seem to be on decent terms regardless, fear of her strength not withstanding. So yeah, TL:DR, I headcanon that Rulue views the Dark Prince as a big, handsome and strong teddy bear who has saved her life, thus her love for him that no one else can fully understand because it's Satan.

Shin Madou Monogatari Volume 2 - Color Images
Finally, we get Lagnus, Rulue and her loyal underling Minotauros! I really like Lagnus without the headband thing. He looks easier to take seriously. This map connects to the map in vol. 1 as indicated by the little pink sign as indicated.

Puyo Puyo PC-98 Manual Translation
Once upon a time, in the age when the power of magic was bestowed upon the world, a powerful sorcerer created a great spell named "Owanimo." One of the strongest spells of all, it could banish monsters to a space between dimensions, but he sealed it away, recording it only in his "Book of Magic."
Not because it was forbidden knowledge or incredibly hard to use, but because to him, it seemed useless. And thus, the spell entered a dormant state, awaiting a day when a new sorcerer would come forth...
Years came and went until finally, the seal came undone with the appearance of a great sorceress: Arle Nadja. One day, this auburn-haired girl with golden eyes came across the Book of Magic.
"Owanimo...?" Arle studied the chapter on forbidden spells for what seemed like hours. "When four monsters of the same color are in your sights, chant this spell loudly. The Goddess of Time shall listen, and whisk the monsters away to a space between dimensions."
Arle continued to read, learning the Owanimo spell, but then closed it with a heavy sigh once she finished.
Why set it aside like that? Well, Arle had never seen "four monsters of the same color" as the spellbook described.
"I spent so much time reading, and it's not even a spell I can use for anything..."
But just as fate brought the Book of Magic into Arle's hands by chance, so it brought from the world of darkness the very monsters she had read about.
And thus, a great battle awaits. With her great magic abilities, and the newfound power of "Owanimo," Arle Nadja sets out to protect the world.
CHARACTERS A・C・P
Arle Nadja The protagonist of the game and the (aspiring) sorceress who released the spell "Owanimo". Nobody knows how she ended up this way, but despite looking like she wouldn't hurt a fly, she's actually a merciless girl that slaughters innocent Puyo. She currently attends a magic school, but she's already too scary for anything to stand in her way. That's my opinion, anyway.
Carbuncle During the game, when you find your eyes moving towards the center of the screen... Awww~! He's sleeping!!! This is Carbuncle. When he's lying still, he almost looks like a loaf of bread, but as he sings and dances he shows off a wide range of movement and facial expressions. A truly profound deuteragonist.
Puyo Puyo Despite their fate as short-lived, jelly-like monsters who are stacked and popped, they have managed to secure a leading role this time around, and even get to dance on the title screen. They're sure to enjoy this special opportunity to perform on a grand stage in five different colors. Looking at them with an empty stomach will reveal their appetizing nature and make you hungry. Hehe.
Arle, the protagonist, is brimming with curiosity.
PRACTICE STAGE ENEMY MONSTERS
Skeleton T While he appears as the epitome of a tea-loving Japanese man, he is a fine monster as well. He will be the first opponent you face during your trials. But you'll find that in a rather endearing way, he's a miserable fool who doesn't even know how to rotate his Puyo. Boohoo. Sipping bitter green tea during battle will instantly make you one of his tea-drinking buddies.
Nasu Grave An eggplant. Specifically, a Kamo eggplant. On top of that, he makes for a rather strange presence. Just what the heck is this thing? Despite appearances, his defensive power is high, so novices might find themselves struggling a bit. You'll have no choice but to keep at it and apply a steady technique. But in the end, your opponent is still just an eggplant. A regular talking eggplant. …Heh.
Mummy Even though it's called Mummy, it isn't a mommy. It's a mummy. What? You already knew that? Oh, deary me, I'll wrap it up then. (←One-man comedy routine.) Mummy is an opponent that makes you want to bully it because the crying face it makes when it's about to lose is just too cute. Sorry, Mummy.
The Goddess of Time whisking the monsters away.
BATTLE STAGES 1-6
Draco Centauros As you might expect from someone who shouts "Rawr", this half-dragon being takes pride in those sharp horns. Appearing as the first obstacle of your quest, this opponent has top tier judgment and piece precision but takes forever to think things through. Because of that, she's a pitiful lass who is only ranked as a third-rate monster girl... You heard me right! Draco is a girl. I'm sure someone around you thought she was a boy...
Suketoudara A pollock who has an aura of coming from some far-off sea. However, he seems to have the character of an Edokko. He's an athletic-type who tends to err on the side of caution. However, he's also arrogant. When he wins, he makes a face that screams "You're no match for me!", which is truly aggravating. Many say they especially don't want to lose to him.
(TL Note: Literally meaning “Child of Edo”, Edokko is refers to a person born and raised in Edo (renamed Tokyo in 1868). It implies personality traits such as being assertive, straightforward, cheerful, perhaps a bit mercantile.)
Sukiyapodes Let's just get this out of the way; he has a giant foot. It measures about 16 mon. Even though he has a complex about it, he directs that frustration into bettering himself. Well, we're not sure if that last part's true, but he always has a cheerful expression on his face as he slowly and steadily builds precise chains. He's a bit of an unpleasant guy.
(TL Note: mon is a unit of length for measuring the size of one's foot. 1 mon is equivalent to 2.4 cm. His foot is 38.4 cm, or 15.12 in.)
Harpy Now then, it is time for Miss Harpy's song. She loves singing more than she loves having three meals a day. She could sing for ages if no one stopped her. If there was something like a "Puyo Puyo World Karaoke Tournament", she'd win for sure. But unfortunately, this is only Puyo Puyo.
Sasori Man “How d'ya do, partner? I’m a famous Naniwa salesman known 'round these parts as Sasori Man. Put 'er there! Huh? Yer askin' for my secret to success? I ain't spillin' the beans no matter how much ya beg. That's somethin' to look forward to when we do battle. Till then, happy trails.”
Panotty A flute-playing boy. But honestly, he's nothing more than a noisy, mischievous brat. He disrupts his opponent's chains by dropping large amounts of Nuisance Puyo on them. Everyone has fallen victim to his antics at least once. What a truly ruthless Puyo technique. For when his last flute sounds, the dead shall be raised. Just kidding.
BATTLE STAGES 7-12
Zombie A zombie. All of his lines are stuff like "Ugheeee." This zombie is quite the formidable trickster. Sometimes he will be swiftly defeated, and other times he will take you by surprise and suddenly pull off a huge chain. If you don't take him seriously, you'll find yourself in a tough spot. Battle with caution.
Witch In the forest stands a grand mansion. Living there was a very ordinary family whose lineage can be traced back hundreds of years. The family's only daughter was born and was raised in a very ordinary fashion. But there was one thing that was not so ordinary...That young lady was a haughty witch. Ohohoho! Ohohohoho... *fadeout*
Zou Daimaou Pawoo! The mammoth mogul has arrived! A young aristocrat who comes from an ancient and distinguished line of royal Indian elephants. An irritating fellow who likes bad puns, gives his words an elephantine quality, and casually rhymes. He also enjoys Puyo Puyo. Plus, he's strong. An aphant-garde aristocrat whose ground-shaking chains are as sharp as his tusks.
Schezo A silver-haired man with deep blue eyes. Schezo, the embodiment of picturesque beauty. However, he's been deemed a pervert thanks to Arle, and strives to restore his honor by challenging her.
B-E-A-U-T-Y! Perfection won't pass you by! P-R-I-N-C-E! Of the Puyo Puyo World, it's meant to be! Go now! Go forth! Show us what you're really worth!
...Well, this has turned into something rather silly..
Minotauros Risking life and limb for his duties, a bull who lives by the code of chivalry, leaving a flurry of cherry blossoms in his wake. That is Minotauros. Ever since Rulue rescued him long ago, he has served as her devoted attendant like a faithful dog. Seeing him like this brings some to tears. For Rulue, he'd go through hell and high water. He's giving it his all today, and his one-eyed look is as cool as ever.
Rulue A woman truly worthy of the title of "Fighting Queen". The queen of the Puyo Puyo world. There's nothing that she can't obtain... Oh wait, there is something — Satan's love. Possessing a very jealous nature, Rulue is always lying in wait, ready to obliterate anyone who gets close to Satan. It's rumored that her true strength is even greater than Satan's.
BATTLE STAGE 13
Satan He is the king that rules over heaven and earth. He soars the skies with wings that slice through wind. His two horns point towards the heavens. His sharp eyes are like glistening gems. Cloaked in the veil of night, his devilish hand beckons you in. He is darkness’s cherished protege. It seems playing Puyo Puyo is a guilty pleasure of his. His true strength is unknown. It's said he's won the Puyo Puyo World Championship a countless number of times. In any case, he's obviously a bigshot. Can you truly defeat Satan, who boasts of elite skills in speed and chaining?

To Arle, Rulue, and Schezo... thoughts on Amitie, Raffina, and Sig, respectively?
"I love Amitie! I wish we could hang out more, but I'm always so busy, and when I'm not busy I usually spend the day with my other friends.... I hope she doesn't think I don't like her...."
"Raffina could very well be my student, but I think she's done well on her own so far. If she ever needs a tutor, well, I'm not the Fighting Queen for nothing!"
"I... I can't help but be a bit jealous of the boy. There's a reason they call me selfish, after all."
(technically this is ask blog the madou era but also. I love modern day puyo characters so I couldn't help but answer the ask anyway. besides, timeliness are foggy anyway, might as well include all puyo characters!!!!! -mod fiery)

Allen X Read the Puyo Puyo Wiki
So I’m playing Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 and having a good time with Adventure Mode. Talked a bit about the previous game two years ago and my opinion hasn’t changed much. The sound design is still great, the characters are still colorful and varied, and I still want a Puyo Puyo fighting game where Rulue is a rekka-based rushdown character ala Under Night’s Enkidu.
But anyway, took a bit of a dive into the Puyo Puyo wiki and I find the actual world very... quirky. Puzzle battles aside, when you look beyond the puyo you get a pretty damn intense universe. This is a world that follows so many shounen anime rules that I’m surprised no one’s gone Super Saiyan yet. And while I searched through the wiki it’s got me thinking on a few things. Such as...
In a world as magical and magic focused as Puyo Puyo, does that mean characters like Rulue and Raffina, people who struggle with magic yet make up for it with martial arts and physical training, basically the Rock Lee of their universe?
By extension, does this mean Rulue is going to have a scene where she reveals her bracelets and anklets actually weight over 500 pounds before beating the ever-living shit out of Schezo when she takes them off?
Does everyone in the Puyo verse just... casually accept Sig is basically a half demon? Schezo’s the only one that really cares, and he only cares for... Schezo reasons.
Why does Satan want to marry a little girl?
Like okay, I know Madou Monogatari lore is a wild ride and that Arle may or may not be the reincarnation of Satan’s first wife, but... Arle’s, like, 16-ish at best and a bratty teenager beside. Meanwhile, Rulue is a literal queen that is so thirsty for Satan she ranted about him for hours to goddamn Schezo.
