M'benga is a confused king(tm), Hemmer is awesome and thoroughly done, Una and Ortegas are queer and badass, Chapel is mystic, la'an is overdramatic, Uhura is a Queen with Spock as a sidekick (just as tos intended) and Pike is a pathetic meow meow. All in all, exactly as star trek should be. The best ep by far

In a habit he had reached for her hand, ignoring the perfect way it melted into his, soundlessly, she stalked his movements.

The way he gently lifted it up, until it reached the same level as his round nose and then bowed slightly, pressing his warm, tender lips on her knuckles as his eyelids fluttered shut.

He had done this before, as a gesture of respect, but he couldn’t help but wish it would be something beyond that.
