Another avenue I want to explore in an Amity Park is Weird scenario is all the niche sub-cultures going on.
There is absolutely NO WAY there isn't a thriving goth community in Amity Park. They're holding picnics every full moon. They're holding crafting sessions in their friends' basements. They're adopting ghost animals left and right: eight-legged dogs and blob-cats, skeletal fish and neon bearded dragons.
There's a young man called Raphael who performs live music every week at a dance club with his band: he's got a myriad of shiny piercings, and a phone camera roll full of his rabbits, Morningstar and Salem. Perhaps those ghosts are bad business like the Fentons say, but the club's never felt more alive.
The scene and emo kids are multiplying at a rapid rate. The punks and grunge folks are doing shit with textiles that makes every quilting grandmother in a five mile radius swoop in to pass on their skills. Josie and Betty, old friends who periodically upload photos online of their handmade lace, suddenly gain an influx of young folks who want to learn how to make their own ghoulish patterns.
There's a new group peeling off from the goths that dress like the embodiment of Halloween– all bones, pumpkin orange and lengths of costume jewelry.
The historical costuming community is alive and well in these times, and they fall upon the few ghosts from times past willing to share knowledge like starving wolves. Their minds are full of patterning-math and fabric prices, and their excitement is, quite literally, infectious.
A revolution starts up in food service: a great many restaurants closed or moved to follow the many people who left Amity after the ghosts first came. A pair of brothers open a restaurant that has the best Polish food around: people politely don't comment on how the owners are dressed in clothes a century out of date or how their eyes gleam. Two cat cafes open, one space themed and another with loose definitions of what counts as a "cat." Assorted coffee and tea shops dot the landscape: some serve donuts, some have cupcakes, and others have breakfast wraps, sandwiches or savory hand pies.
People that can't afford to open a restaurant sell food out of their homes, advertised by cardboard signs with phrases like CAKES FOR $10, and BARBEQUE RIBS FOR SALE painted on them in gigantic bright letters. High school students bring in bags of cookies they made the night before and completely sell out of stock before the day is done. One woman's house has no signage and yet is known by word of mouth to be a herbalist, selling tins of homemade tea blends, flowers, assorted plant clippings, and cough drops.
Someone down the street of Casper High sells small batches of eco-friendly soap at a nearby corner store.
During summer time, lemonade stands are everywhere. Some of the lemonade is made with the strange fruits from one of the parks: no one dies, so it's fine.
The Farmer's Market has gotten... intense.
#amity park is weird#danny phantom#dp#amity park#i love wordbuilding :))#i didn't mention it but i think Josie the lacemaker dies only a year after the ghost shit starts happening and becomes a ghost herself.#The Drs. Fentons don't notice :)#however they would notice the Ghost Pets so there's a town-wide conspiracy to keep them in the dark about it/keep them away#sorry Drs. Fenton but Snuggles the Nightmare Ghost Cat is beloved by all. you're not going to catch her#my posts

A Quick Chat
'Absolutely not!'
'I'm just gonna talk with him!'
Following the quickly escalating shouts down to the Batcave Bruce found Dick and a heavily armed Tim at each other's throats while their siblings oh so helpfully egged them on.
They were arguing about Wally and their last universal saving mission for some reason and Tim had nearly every contingency he could think of to handle a speedster on him.
-nna talk, that's it!'
'Then you can leave the gear here!'
'What's going on?'
All of his children froze, finally realizing he was here before they started shouting over each other.
'You remem-'
'-ick's trying to-'
'Father Dr-'
'-ng crazy, just because the universe re-'
'Enough!'
'Now, can someone tell me what's going on or do I have to get Alfred?'
And Jason was happy enough to tell him. 'Replacement's pissed because we finally discovered a pretty big difference with the universe after the League hit the reset button.'
Multiple screens on the Batcomputer held information on new heroes, a Junior JLD and everything Tim could dig up on two individuals. The first one was Phantom, a new addition to the Titans and had a number of detailed conspiracy theories tracking his appearances through time while the other held the detailed background information of a recently graduated Daniel James Fenton. Tim had dug up everything from his kindergarten grades to... Oh... Oh no... That explains why they were arguing about Wally.
Most of Daniel's latest online post covered his move to Gotham, his new job offer working in their engineering department and his new boyfriend Bernard. Looking at it all made it painfully easy to piece together that... 'They stole my life!'
And Dick and Tim were arguing again but Bruce knew it wouldn't get too heated and focused his attention on the gathered information. It was easy to see that a number of encounters his kids (mainly his oldest three) should have had with the Titans were adjusted just enough to fit Phantom now and Tim's involvement with the Children of Dionysus had been shifted around to involve Daniel in this new universe.
'-e universe reset doesn't mean you can ruin their lives. Phantom seems like a good kid.'
'Dowd would have left you eventually.'
Dick had to hold Tim back from launching himself at Damien while Jason and Steph stood by egging the two of them on, but then Tim got that look in his eye when Duke brought up the idea of reintroducing himself and everyone noticed.
'No.'
'Come on. Tim, you don't need another restraining order.'
'But it didn't happen in this universe so it doesn't count.'
'It counts if we still remember it!'
But Tim wasn't listening, too busy changing out of all of his gear as a plan quickly started forming together in his mind.
Why waste time with Wally when he can just as easily win over the new couple while ignoring everything else he's learned from his friends.
He'd figure it out one mess at a time. After he won Bernard back he'd figure out the situation between Red Robin and Phantom.
-_- -_- -_-
Reading over the sticky note Danny couldn't help but wonder what Clockwork meant when he wrote 'Have Fun'.
Again, I blame my medication for this, but this came from a couple of different prompts about Tim, Bernard and Danny and I just sort of went with it. Basically the main roster of the League has to stop (Pick a threat) and end up resitting the universe again. The problem is they still remember the old universe so they spend a week or two looking up any big changes and a sleep deprived Tim starts believing he barely knows Bernard in this universe when he's actually dating him and Danny. He just hasn't dug deep enough to figure out his own connection.

Danny and Cass are Dr Doof and Agent P
So! Here's a simple prompt. Danny is a small time Villain who uses his Technical Mind to build batshit crazy Inventions in an attempt to take over the "Tri-City Area" (Gotham, Bludhaven, Metropolis). Cass is the Silent Badass who is stuck having to defeat him every time.
Just imagine it!
...
Danny: Ahhh, Orphan. What an unexpected surprise. And by Unexpected I mean COMPLETELY EXPECTED! *slams buttom* *trap springs up around cass*
Cass: ...
Danny: Now, I bet you are wondering why I have covered all of Metropolis in Aluminum Foil. Well. IF I am to take over the Tri City Area, all three Cities must be together! So, using my Fenton-Magnet-Inator, I will pull Metropolis across the Harbor and unite all 3 cities! What do you think of that!? *turns back to cass*
Cass: *holding the dismantled trap with a bored look on her face* ...
Danny: ...Okay then, fine, whatever. It took me all day to design the perfect trap for you and you dismantled it in 5 seconds...I'm not upset...
Cass: *sheepish look* ...want to fight now...?
Danny: ...I would like that...
...
And if Danny is Dr Doofenshmirtz, and Cass is Agent P, who would Phineas and Ferb be? I vote for Jon and Damian.
And Tim is Candace.
...
Jon: I know what we're gonna do today!
Damian: This will be entertaining.
*5 hours later*
Tim: BRUU-UCE! Jon and Damian built a Kryptonian Flying Roller Coaster!
Bruce: I'm one of the world's greatest detectives Tim, I think I would have noticed that.
Tim: *also one of the world's greatest detectives* ...dude...
...
This was just a fun thought I had at work, but I feel like it works well enough.
This could be a Romantic Cass/Danny, or just regular old Frenemies Cass/Danny, but either way I just really love the concept of Danny being a Villain and Cass being the Hero constantly sent to stop him.
(Maybe he is too competent otherwise? The other Heroes don't know why, but every time someone other than Cass tries to stop him he is suddenly Extremely Dangerous. Maybe it's a Crush?)

I got distracted, BUT I REMEMBERED!
The Dr.'s Fenton? Would ABSOLUTELY fight a child.
Specifically, Hatsume Mei. Future CEO of Hatsume Industries! And ENGINEERING RIVAL of their's! They may be new to this whole "support industy" business, but they are SEASONED weaponry makers! And that brilliant little upstart is good! Audacious! A THREAT!!!
COME GET SOME!!! D:<
See, they needed to Move. Things were getting a bit... spicy. They may have made so unfortunate choices, back before they knew the truth about their Son and Ghosts in general.
Ignorance, bigotry, and academic bias are curses in their house for a REASON, after all. They never thought... after all the DECADES of facing it themselves...
Well...
Needless to say, they were, are, and will always BE horrified by how they acted. There may have be a whole host of reasons behind WHY they acted that way. But those WHYs aren't good enough. They should have been better. Done better. They don't offer any excuses, but but they can give an explanation, if it's wanted.
And, together, as a family, they got through Maddie n Jack's horrifying mistakes.
God they don't deserve those kids. Love them to pieces. The things they don't warn ya about parenthood, you know? The mistakes you might make. You think you're ready. Think everything's alright. Then your life's work KILLS your son and brings him back.
And you don't notice.
......what sort of parents DONT NOTICE?
They still have nightmares. Feel sick. God, if they were working in ANY other field. With ANY other materials! If it wasn't SPECIFICALLY ectoplasm? He... he wouldn't have come back. Oh god.
........
So.... so, yeah.
They're working on some things! As a family! Seeing a therapist from the Zone. Lovely... Them? They're a tree person. Neither Jack or Maddie is quite certain what gender pronouns, if ANY, they are supposed to use. They've been defaulting to They/Them just to be safe. Still! Alien therapist! Neat!
But, of COURSE. The BABIES in White throw a FIT. "Wah, wah, wah you've been compromised blah blah blah" oh PLEASE! Just because they've had a little personal growth! And stopped shooting at Phantom in public! And in general! You shoot ONE little Goverment agent for trying to shoot your baby and suddenly YOUR the bad guy!
He didn't even die!
So, yeah, BIT spicy.
Honestly? Feels like a long time coming. They were never very popular. This ultimately just feels like the ends of a road that began in college. Them, the two "crazies" with their backs to the wall, as the government closes in, trying to tear them down for knowing the TRUTH and refusing to shut up about it. Their reputations so deep in the mud, they're tasting bedrock.
At least they are together.
And thank god they've had years to plan for the inevitable.
So? They have the kids grab their go bags and head off too stay with Danny's new celebrity friend from another dimension, Mr Wayne. Nice man, little dim, but since he's willing to open his home to the kids in case of emergency? Perfect. And frankly, as long as Mr. Pennyworth is there, everything will be fine.
Besides! Lil Damian is a very respectful and responsible young man. Tim and Danny may get up to mischief, but they can trust the youngest to put his foot down.
THEM on the other hand?
Not so lucky. THEY have to stay with the house. It's not exactky like they can move the portal after all, it's built in. And this is where the kids grew up! Where Jack and her scrimped and saved, lived out of cars and off nickle noodles, to afford! This is their HOME! And no jack booted THUG is going to take that.
So the kids go first. They go to the command center. Jack takes pot shots while she fires up... THAT machine. The one they wired into the house itself, right along with the Ectoplasmic Shielding. It was all theoretical, once. But not anymore.
Now they have The Zone.
It's been collecting energy runoff from the open gate ever since it opened. Siphoning them into the sub-basment mega batteries. Enough to run two-thirds the planet for the next half a millennia. If only the damn patent office would LET THEM PATENT THEIR WORK-!
But that doesn't matter anymore. No, what matters is checking how full the battery banks are. Decently. It HAS been a while since they've done a controlled drain. Good, that means they have more then enough.
So, with no kids to witness things getting nasty? She pulls out her keys and unlocks the parental commands, flips the the shields to "strobe-kill". Let's see you crowd us NOW fuckers. With Jack freed up to help aim the house? They set to work.
It's... not EXACTLY an exact science, as much as they'd prefer it to be. More of a controlled jump. Set preferences, power jump, hop sideways an unknown distance. Land. Look around.
Is it what you want?
Habitable?
A zombie apocalypse?
Jump again. And again. And again. Until the battery runs out. Then sit... or float...or drift, there, until the batteries refill. You have to be mindful, of course, that you don't lose Shield coverage. Because it keeps the House air tight and together. If you jump and immediately lose power to the shields because you misjudged the energy left in the batteries?
Better HOPE you land somewhere with a breathable atmosphere and no zombies!
And Fentons don't rely on HOPE! They rely on good ol firepower and hutzpa!
Also advanced ectoplasmic scientific engineering! But that was a given.
It... takes a while. They run out of canned peaches. Have to stop TWICE to help cure a zombie plague, since they are the only ones with a still working lab. They were actually sort of joking with the kids about the zombies. Oof. Good thing Ectoplasm eats EVERYTHING. One specialized ecto shot and that disease is TOAST.
Granted, the surviors are all limnal now. But they don't seem to care in the slightest.
Then there was the whole "oop! Planet's gone." Couple of worlds. The one with the crabs. The ocean one. The ice age. The robots. The cartoon horses. The inappropriately dressed high-schoolers with weapons fighting God. The boring one. The one with ninjas...
I mean, they are just NOT having any LUCK!
Okay, next moderately stable world, they are doing a groceries run! A Man can not live off freeze dried meals forever! Well, you CAN. But it's making Jack sad, and frankly that's a war crime. Plus she's run out of tea! AND coffee! A life of no caffeine? She can't endure that.
She's started to eye her son's God awful energy abominations in a can, for God sake! Desperate time's and all that...
Zyeyooom!
Thunk!
Which? Is how? The ENTIRE class of 1-H? Turns to stare in ABSOLUTE HORROR at the cackling, head thrown back, hands clawed, mad scientist "it's alive! It's aliiiiiiive" type insanity that is Hatsume Mei and her "this green goo I found from some guys Quirk" powered teleport anchor.
It MADE A HOUSE.
On SCHOOL FUCKING GROUNDS. An ENTIRE house! Is... is that a blimp? That's English right? What's it say?! What the FUCK is that sh- OH MY GOD ARE THOSE PEOPLE!? MEI!!!!!
So begins... the Fentons Beef With A Child™.
Because! Mei will forever more claim! That SHE brought them to this universe with HER magnificent machine! But Maddie and Jack? At first, trying to be nice about it, helpfully point out, actually? No. THEIR house can and does reality jump. THEY brought themselves.
Mei ignores them.
Crows about her magnificent machine. Scoffs about them thinks they haspd anything to do with it.
Oh... oh it is ON, you tiny pink haired little shit!
Does the Japanese Government want to take control of the situation? Of course they do. They want these scientists and they want that house. Local Nedzu's say? "It's nice to want things" :) *sips tea mockingly*
They landed on HIS school's grounds. Finders keepers!
You may say "threat to national security" but HE says "free support gear for the students and security for the school"! Not to MENTION all this delightful FREE clean energy! They are a delightful couple. With a portal to the fabric between realities in their basement!
Not found of the laboratory, but that's a personal issue. The ZONE however? Oooohohohohoho~☆
It? Would DRIVE THE HPSC and Japanese government BATSHIT INSANE that they can't get at the portal? That threats and stealth Heros and every other method? Just... hits a brick wall. A big ol "lol nope!" Meanwhile Nedzu and occasionally random teachers or students are popping in and out of this house they can get into?
Nedzu especially standing just on the other side of the shields going >:3 neener~ neener~ neener~ Ha ha! I could be mature about this but am CHOOSING NOT TO BE!

Doctor Danny: First official chapter
The busy hospital was on its last leg. Nurses and interns were scattered, running around like mice.
Sounds of trauma care patients and emergency care patients alarms were constantly ringing.
In the midst of it all, one calm collected doctor cared tenderly for each patient.
He, was Danny Fenton, who used to be known for having two crazy ghost enthusiasts for parents. He still loved his parents despite how hard it was growing up as half ghost.
Jazz had told them a long time ago and they had ignored it for the most part. Like that side of him didn't exist.
It had hurt at the time but Danny had managed to move past it. After successfully securing his position as ghost king (on accident) he put his newfound authority to good use making the ghosts swear a vow to behave.
A ghost vow is a big deal, which is why Danny swore a vow in return acknowledging them, if ever a ghost were in danger he would help them.
After the lack of ghost attacks Danny found he had next to nothing to do. His only hobby outside of playing video games had been ghost fighting. He hadn't realized how used to it he had gotten.
Danny hadn't even picked the college he wanted to go to yet.
Danny approached the Nasty Burger, his last refuge.
That's when he noticed a man who seemed a little out of it. The man stumbled making Danny wonder if he was drunk.
Danny turned to go inside when the man collapsed. Danny rushed over to the man and rolled him on his back. He checked for a pulse but couldn't find one.
Of course he wasn't exactly medically trained.
Danny dialed nine-one-one and started to perform CPR as best he could.
He explained to the operator clearly the situation and the ambulance came in no time.
Later that night Danny was processing the events in his head and instead of feeling scared or nervous he felt excited.
He was thrilled to have something to get his blood pumping again. Which is why he applied for med school. He studied hard, using all the time he had to memorize all the medical information that he could.
After graduation he interned at Amity Parks local hospital before moving up his position to resident.
Only a week after getting his new position he was forced to leave the hospital. It was closing because of a lack of funding.
"Please sir! What about the staff or the patients?"
The head of the medical board shook his head.
"Dr. Fenton, this hospital runs on little to nothing to begin with, we are lucky to have even made it this far. The patients will be transfered and the staff, relocated"
Danny furrowed his brows in concern.
"Don't worry Dr. Fenton, your quite literally the best we've seen walk these halls, your sure to get a good recommendation"
Danny clenched his fist.
"What are my options?" He asked.
The board looked at his sheet, flipping several until he found the right one on his clipboard.
"You said you wanted to work at a busy hospital right?"
Danny nodded yes.
"There aren't too many around here, the busiest hospital I can think of belongs to a crime ridden city a bit far from here." He said.
"Gotham City"
Danny's breath hitched. He had heard about Gotham before. It was notorious for its villains.
Despite that, it was alluring.
"There! Send me to Gothams hospital!" He said suddenly and eagerly.
"Okay, if you say so. Do us all a favor and survive alright"
Danny laughed, "sure, I'll do my best. No promises though"
Just like that Danny packed up moved to Gotham.
He had little time to research Gotham before hand but he had heard several mutters in passing of a place called Crime Alley, a strange nickname for sure.
Danny was sure that this place would either be completely clean due to police intervention or incredibly overrun.
Danny signed a lease at the Shirley Apartments.
"Are you sure about this young man" the desk lady asked him.
He smiled kindly.
"Yes I am, I've heard the rumors and have weighed the risk. In the end it might be helpful to know just how my patients love to receive the injuries they do"
The lady sighed.
"That's right, you said your a doctor. Be careful out there, any talent in Gotham is either warped by a villain or destroyed"
Danny was a little startled by the warning, apparently there was even more to Gotham than he knew.
"I'm sorry I forgot to ask for your name"
"Didn't give one, in Gotham it's best to remain anonymous"
Danny blinked a little surprised.
"It's that dangerous, well I'll take your word for it then, thank you miss" he said as he took the key from her.
He had been able to store the old car his dad had given to him in a locked garage. He wasn't sure how well it would hold up but there was only so much he could do against humans.
Ghost powers had little, of any, effect on humans when it came to offense. Defensively they were pretty great to have.
He had only brought five boxes with him, no furniture. Back in Amity he had been busy studying and had brushed aside buying furniture.
Unfortunately that meant he had no bed.
Danny was glad to have found a beaten up wardrobe. It was missing it's doors and was leaning to the side, even so Danny was able to fix it and hang his clothes up in it.
He grabbed one of the boxes and smiled warmly when he saw a Fenton Emergency pack inside.
His mom must've stuffed it there when he was looking, lucky for him it had a sleeping bag.
An air mattress would've been nice too, but it's the thought that counts.
Danny safely stored his two favorite pictures. One of him with his family and one with his friends.
They were hidden just in case someone decided to break in, not that there would be much to find anyway but it never hurt to be careful.
Danny went to sleep soon after despite the sounds of the city.
Danny woke up feeling refreshed. He grabbed his bags and hopped in his car.
Danny hadn't realized how busy Gothams hospital actually was. Danny pulled into Gotham General and as soon as he was in his scrubs and coat he was dragged into the frey.
"We need a doctor over here!" Someone called just as Danny had finished with a patient.
Despite having to run around all day Danny wasn't tired, his ghost half supplied him energy after his human side ran dry.
All in all Danny first day on the job was hectic and he had worked for fourteen hours.
Once he was back in his apartment Danny set up a table that he had pre ordered online.
Then he got to work. According to his knowledge, most of his patients had suffered from some kind of attack or other.
Most of the heavy hitters were villains named Joker, Penguin and two face.
The riddler was taken care of, Poison Ivy had been rehabilitated and Harley Quinn had broken free from Jokers choke hold on her.
There was also the less obvious villains, like the business man lex Luther.
Lex Luther was shady at best, while no one could get hard evidence on him most people knew to be wary.
But just being informed didn't stop them from falling into his traps.
Lately Bruce had done official business with Lex Luther, which made him a suspicious person whom Danny had decided to keep tabs on, he was wary of the rich and for good reasons.
The cork board above Danny table has a litter of documents and pictured pined by red string. The players who were out of the game were crossed off.
Then there were the vigilantes. A few of them had been known to be rough, a necessary violence.
Still they seemed to have little awareness of what their little battles did to other people. Because many people came in for minor injuries due to being caught in the crossfire.
Which meant Danny had to find a way to keep everybody in line so patients would decrease in number. Danny let himself sleep for four hours before returning to the hospital.
"Oh my gosh, Doctor Fenton is still here" one nurse whispered. It had been a full day and half, Danny was running on his ghost half that seemed to keep replenishing itself due to the toxic air of Gotham. A positive side effect.
"How does he never get tired?"
"Maybe he's superhuman" one girl cracked. They noticed as he rushed by them to get to another patient.
"He's quite handsome too" one said wistfully, "but who wants a husband that works all the time"
Danny noticed the next patient seemed tense and he kept screaming for his daughter.
Danny whispered in the man's ear and put a hand on his forehead. He had used a ghost technique he learned from Nocturne and the man calmed down.
The other doctors were impressed as they worked to care for the man's injuries.
Finally the head of the unit noticed Danny and after reviewing his chart had forced him to go home.
"I don't feel fatigued at all sir, I promise I am not compromised. I can care for the patients"
The head wasn't having any of it.
"Above all your health is just as important as the patients we care for. For them to get healthy, you have to be healthy. Go home Dr.Fenton, you can come back after you get at least ten hours of sleep."
Danny wanted to argue but he knew the head was right.
"Yes sir" he said before changing into civilian clothes and leaving the hospital.
Now that he was out of a hospital setting things like hunger started to appear.
Maybe he had been to focused to notice how hungry he had been.
Danny blearily noticed a fast food place. His instincts told him the food would be greasy and way too unhealthy.
Mmm, comfort food.
The nostalgia fought with his doctoral instincts and won. All Danny wanted was to sit in a booth and eat some greasy food.
Danny ordered the double cheeseburger with bacon with a side of ten pieces chicken nuggets and large order of fries.
Waiting, even for five minutes, was starting to make Danny ravenous. As soon as he got his food he sat down and started gorging himself.
It was pretty good food for a little fast food place in the world's worst city.
Danny liked the tenderness and crispiness of the burger, the cheese was melted just right too.
Danny dipped his nuggets in sweet n' sour sauce while fighting the urge to kick his legs like a happy little kid.
As Danny left the restraint he saw an alert on his phone for a villain attack and rushed to the scene.
To his satisfaction the culprits were already being hauled away in police custody. They were just small fries, not of them appeared connected to a big player, so Danny was free to shut them out of his mind.
Which is exactly what he did. Danny drove back to his apartment and let out a sigh of relief.
That's when he noticed his door was slightly ajar.
His guard was up immediately. Danny stepped inside cautiously. He was relieved when everything appeared untouched but the scare had sent him a trip to get stronger locks.
On his way back to his car from the store he heard sound of a glass bottle breaking in a nearby alley. It was small alley, from what Danny could tell it was also a dead end alley.
Taking a risk Danny stepped in and chills went down his spine when he heard labored breathing.
Danny rushed over and froze at what he saw.

DPXDC Enemy of my Enemy is the Worse "Excerpts" (Part 1?) I have more Ideas
Okay I kepy thinking about the prompt Enemy of my Enemy is the Worse I made LOL- (gonna post excerpts.) Probably wont fully write this.. as much as I like to right now LOL. If this inspires anyone to write, go for it.
"So now what? Going to vivisect me? Experiment? Rip my molecules apart like how my-Mr. Fenton keeps telling me." "Unfortunately, no." Agent K grumbles. "And its dissection, not-" Agent O tries to correct. "I maybe dead-but I'm not THAT dead." Danny rolled his eyes, flashing them at the two men in white. He can't believe any of this is happening. Oh he wished he listened to Jazz.. or Sam or Tuck more. He pulled at his ghost proof bindings, them having him ridiculously buried in the restraints. "Actually, Mr. Phantom, is it? I wanted to talk." Another bald man walks in, his suit notably black. Danny raised his eyebrow unimpressed, "What? Is it the Guys in Black and White now? Not that I'm against it, I'm all for equality, but it does seem a little off brand. I'm guessing the bleach bill is getting too high." Agent O was about to speak out- when the guy in black raised his hand to silence him. This guy only looked slightly amused, which gave Danny the creeps. "Of course not. That'd be ridiculous, though I'm not against inclusivity either. I'm Lex Luthor, and it is my recent interest in ghosts that had allowed the GIW to reach its full potential. " "So another annoying billionaire. Great."
"So you know of me? Perfect, then we can keep this simple. In truth, I am only interested in one ghost in particular." "We can capture him without involving ourselves with this scum-" "This GHOST has not only evaded my notice for YEARS, but has been stealing very valuable technology that would go beyond NASA's comprehension. Though I don't doubt your expertise, it has not come without notice that this particular ghost is seen the most-" Lex flicked his eyes down at Phantom. "With you." Agent K and O unrolled paper from their suits to reveal a picture of Plasmius. "The Wisconsin Ghost." - "Plasmius?!" Danny spoke same time the Agents did. Lex smirked at the Agents then down at Phantom. Danny took a moment to register what was going on before busting out laughing. "Really? What makes you think I'm buddy buddy with Plasmius? He's a total fruitloop and honestly- not surprise. He steals blueprints from my p---Dr. Fentons all the time." "You steal their items as well, if we recall." Agent K raised a brow. "Well-I- Just because- YOU USE THEIR BLUEPRINTS TOO!" "Enough. " Lex starting to sound annoyed, Danny felt like it was a win. Serves bastard right. Man did he hate billionaires. "I've observed your work in Amity Park. If I dare say you are quite similar to many of the masked vigilantes that plague this Earth. Even more heroic in my opinion." Danny was not biting at whatever trick Lex was pulling. Though he didn't miss the skip of his core at being recognized something other than a menace. 'He's lying to you.' he repeated in his head. Pulling on his bindings again to remember the real situation before him.
"That being said, I like you to do as heroes do and capture this criminal, then bring him to me." "Look, thanks for the compliment- but we both know I'm not seen as a hero. So why don't you quit the buttering 'cause I'm not interested in culinary and tell me what's in it for me. Even though I'm barely c-average on the best of days, I'm not dumb. I'm not doing this for free or just some lame you will be spared nonsense. Been there done that." Lex smirked again, "I'll grant you immunity from GIW and you can have your haunt back." "Wait? What?!" "But it took so long to capture him-" "IF you manage to capture Plasmius and bring him to me before GIW can." Danny glanced at the two agents as they puffed out their chests. Cocky. They really think they could capture Vlad? Then painfully reminded himself that they did catch him. "And if I don't agree?" "We DISSECT you and use you for very unethical and highly painful experiments that are legal on subjects like yourself." Agent K happily boast. "Riiiight." Danny clicked his tongue, "Add in that these guys are not allowed to be in a 50 miles radius from Amity and I'll do it." "No-" "Deal."
------------------------------------
Danny looped on back to the entryway as he finished swooping through every room of the manor. "Alright! Come on out Fruitloop! I know you're still here-" Just as Phantom floated down to land, he felt a hard punch in his face that sent him skidding across the room into the wall. "OOF" "Guess I should have seen that com...ming..." Danny rubbed his jaw, turning back to see who punched him. His eyes widening as he recognized the heroes he was facing. "Phantom. We're taking you into custody." "YOU CALLED THE JUSTICE LEAGUE ON ME?!" -----(Fight happens)--- Flash manages to hold Phantom, using his speeding molecules to keep Phantom from phasing through his grip. Danny gritting his teeth as the other heroes ready to capture him. Fine. If he can't phase through, he'll just phase in. Phantom uses his icy breath to freeze everything around them. Superman quickly uses his laser vision to melt the ice covering the room in mist, trying to keep themselves from being frozen. "Flash!" When the mist cleared the was no sign of him. Superman using his hearing to try and locate him- despite guarding his right side, he was kicked into the wall by Flash. Flash's eyes glowing bright green. "Well this is weird." -Proceeds to fight in Flash's body for a moment, until he gets knocked out of it. Danny's on his last legs, thinking he barely done a number on them (Not realizing he had been giving them quite a fight). Danny tries to reason again only to hear Amity Park doing great since GIW involvement. Still he isn't backing down. Even mentions Lex is backing them. He knows its only temporary peace if its really peace at all. Which he suspects is a big farce. Besides the portal still resides in Amity. GIW can't get a hold of that- portal. If he can't make them hear him out, then he'll show them why Vlad isn't just some victim. (Not realizing what Justice League may have already discovered) "Want to know why the number 2 worse billionaire is after Fruitloop?" standing up as the net placed on him burned and electrified him. It hurt so much, but he wasn't ready to quit now. Superman flew out in front of the others to block Phantom as Phantom tackled him. Phantom just uses rest of his strength to crash Superman through layers of floors til they reached the secret lab. Superman flinging Phantom into the other side of the room just as they landed, making him slam into a green tube, shattering it. The netting having dropped to the ground away from him. He coughed, shaking as a white ring dangerously popped around his waist shakily dancing, until Phantom sucked it back in. Not yet. The green ectoplasm from the tube soaking into his skin. His eyes widening as he saw what the green ectoplasm was from, jumping back with a disgust yell. He watched the clone fizzle out. "ALREADY? Really Vlad?" He shook off the creeps. "What is this?" "A Lab, du-UAHHHHHHH-" He found himself being spun around by Flash, and flung into the air where he was lassoed. Wonder Woman yanked on the rope tight, swinging him down into the opposite wall. He really was tired of being walled by them. Batman was quick to cuff him as Superman froze him in place. Danny raised a tired brow, unamused. "Are we chill now?" "No." "Thought so." ---bit more talking. Danny navigating his way through the truth of the lasso before using his wail as his last ditch effort to escape. Manages to escape through the portal as the lab collapses.

Bring Me Home Arc 2 Part 18
Welcome to another WIP Wednesday!
Story Summary: Tim and Danny are both neglected by parents who care more about their work than their families. They deal with this by spending too much time online and find each other playing MMORPGs. They keep up their friendship as Tim becomes Robin and Danny becomes Phantom and don't bother keeping secrets from each other.

Arc 2: Part 1, Previous
Word Count: 1.7k
-----
From the radio station, the four traveled to the television studio for their next interview. The host had listened to their radio interview and helped summarize much of the information before asking further questions.
Tim and his teammates called into question the biases of the Drs Fenton and hoped their criticisms would bring others to think twice before taking their word as gospel.
When they were finally done, it was almost nine.
Tim shot off a quick text to Bruce for his morning check-in. He noticed Conner texting someone, too. “Who’re you talking to?” he asked.
“Sam. She says Danny’s still passed out. But her parents are talking about some sort of press release the mayor is planning on putting on at City Hall at ten.”
Cassie groaned. “Ugh, more reporters. Please say we don’t have to go.”
“We should,” said Tim. “But we can go in civvies.”
“Can we at least get breakfast first?” asked Bart. “It’s been hours since we woke up!”
“Yeah,” agreed Cassie. “I’m starving. Let’s get some food. I think I saw a diner when we flew to our second interview.”
Before Tim could consider protesting, Conner had him secure in his arms and TTK and they were in the air.
“Lead the way, Wonder Girl.”
Tim scowled to hide his smile. “Oh sure, don’t listen to your leader. Just do whatever.”
“You’d let us starve?” wailed Connor. “Then we’ll stage a mutiny!”
Cassie laughed. “Yeah, see how long you remain in charge of a hangry speedster, half-kryptonian, and demigoddess.”
Tim grinned. “Oh, but you forget I know you all very well. I can win you back to my side. Starting with Kon.”
“And how do you plan to do that?” demanded Conner.
“Easy. I’ll just bribe you with Alfred’s cookies and a great movie. If I add in a dash of ‘I need your help’ and my puppy dog eyes and you’ll be eating out of the palm of my hand.”
“That’s another square on my bingo card!” called back Cassie. “And look, we’re here!” She pointed down to a quintessential American diner with green glass windows.
The group met Bart a block away in an alley where they shed their gear.
“I’ll tell Sam what we’re up to.” Conner pulled out his phone to send the message.
“Quit wasting time! We’re on a deadline,” moaned Bart as he positioned himself behind Conner and tried to push him towards the street and breakfast.
Conner laughed and refused to budge, so Tim figured a demonstration of his power was in order.
He got in front of Conner and pouted at him. “I know I was joking about not allowing breakfast, but I’m the one who didn’t eat before the interviews. An omelet is calling my name.”
Conner groaned and ran a hand down his face. “Fuck you, Rob.” But he stalked forward out of the alley.
Tim and Bart exchanged grins.
“Seriously, Tim,” said Cassie. “This trip has been great for my bingo card.”
Tim stuck his tongue out at her and jogged to catch up with Conner.
Breakfast was simple but tasty and they devoured far too much food. Their waitress was clearly impressed with her first exposure to a speedsters appetite. Add in a super and a demigoddess and it was obscene.
All too soon, however, it was time to go to the mayor’s press conference. As they made their way there, they joined a growing crowd. Clearly many people were interested in whatever the mayor had planned.
In the crowd, he could hear comments about their interviews. It seems both had been posted online and already had thousands of views. Some people seemed to be sympathetic to them, but others were mistrustful of the “outsiders.”
“If they’re such good friends, why did it take so long for them to come here?” asked one man of his friend.
“I’ve a cousin in Central City. She says trouble always follows a superhero,” said another.
Tim exchanged a look with Conner. He’d be able to hear more conversations and could share his perceptions later.
Before long, they were entering City Hall. Already the seats were full, so they were forced to stand in the back. Jack and Maddie were sitting near the front. Jeremy and Pamela Manson sat on the opposite side of the room as them, but also were near the front of the room.
Tim exchanged looks with his teammates to make sure they saw both couples. Conner was glaring at Maddie and Jack.
“They’re complaining about our interviews,” said Conner. “Throwing around guesses that we are either possessed or have already been brainwashed by the ghosts.”
“At least we know they aren’t observant. Maybe they won’t notice us.”
Mayor Montez stepped up to the podium and everyone fell silent. “People of Amity Park, we have been faced with a threat the likes of which we’ve never before seen! And based on the events of this morning, it doesn’t seem like we’ll be able to rely on outside help to get us out of it.”
A stone sunk in Tim’s stomach and he exchanged looks with his friends.
“We only have one piece of business today: Defeating the ghosts that infest our town. And to do that, I'm calling for a vote to cede all ghost policing and security decisions”—he held up a photo of Maddie—“to Maddie Fenton.” As Tim watched, however, the mayor’s eyes glowed red and he winced. “I mean Jack,” he corrected, holding up a new picture of Jack Fenton. “The completely competent Jack Fenton.”
“He’s overshadowed,” breathed Conner.
Tim nodded and was already sending a message to Sam, Tucker, and Danny. “And who knows who else.”
Before they could say anything else, the mayor continued, “And we’ve located the ghost responsible for all the terror inflicted on our town.” He held up a picture of Phantom. “Whatever some outsiders may have tried to lie to you about this very morning.”
A gasp rang out among the crowd. Tim glanced at his friends. Conner was glaring at the mayor fiercely and Tim attempted to step in front of him, as pointless as their relative sizes made the action.
The mayor smiled viciously as a panicked crescendo rose from the crowd. Tim’s phone vibrated in his hand and he saw a response from Sam.
Sam: We saw Sam: Danny is on his way Sam: And we’re following as fast we can
Under his breath, Tim muttered, “Conner, you and Bart should go suit up. Cassie and I will stay and keep an eye on what’s going on. Stay close, but try not to be seen unless an attack happens.” Subtly, grateful for their places against the wall, he passed over the thermos he’d taken with him that morning.
Tim heard Conner’s sigh of relief as the two slipped away. He hated pretending to be a civilian in a crisis. Even more than the rest of them.
Cassie whispered, “I almost hate you for keeping me here.”
Tim just bumped their shoulders together.
The mayor, or rather the ghost inhabiting him, raised his arm and silence slowly fell. “We cannot call for outside help. Those who call themselves the Young Justice today proved that the so-called heroes of this world will defend our enemy over us. That they will spread lies to keep us subject to the whims of these ghosts.” The last word was spat. “So we must solve the problem ourselves. Jack Fenton, if the people of this town agree, you and those you train will be our defense force, will you do this?”
Jack near jumped three feet in the air in his excitement. “I’ve been training for this my entire life, Mayor Montez! I’ll be honored.”
“I believe we must institute martial law! The 9 PM curfew will remain in place. No one will be allowed on the streets alone. No loitering. The park will be closed until further notice. Same with the public pool and library and a number of other locations. Drs Fenton, will you be able to set up buildings protected by ghost shields where people can gather for safety?”
Whispering broke out among the public. Maddie stood tall next to her husband, though being continually overlooked in favor of him was clearly grating on her. “We can. Fenton Works is already protected and within two days we can have another shield up and ready. Within the week, we could have five.”
The whispered were almost loud enough to drown her out by the time she finished speaking
“Order! Order!” called Mayor Montez. “All in favor of declaring martial law, and allowing the completely competent Jack Fenton to mobilize a massive ghost hunt, please say—”
But cutting off the mayor, Danny, in his Phantom form, suddenly appeared in the air in the middle of the hall. “I might be too young to vote, but I’m casting one anyway.”
Around them, everyone gasped and people began backing away even as Danny shifted to look at them. Tim and Cassie both tensed and prepared to run.
“You people have to listen to me,” urged Danny. “I’m on your side.”
Mayor Montez took a step back as members of his security moved to stand in front of him. Jack and Maddie jumped up and glared at him.
“You’re not fooling anybody, ghost kid!” declared Jack. “You are going down!” He reached back and pulled out the Fenton fishing rod, the line was horribly tangled and Jack began messing with it. “As soon as I finish untangling this thing.”
Cassie let out a disbelieving huff.
Tim shook his head. “Apparently,” he replied to her unasked question. He pulled out his phone and shot a message to Bart and Conner.
Rob: get back here now Rob: All 4 of us are needed
Before he even finished typing his last message, Bart was at his side. Just in time to see Danny mutter something and shoot an ectoblast at his parents who were thrown back with the force of it, destroying the podium and leaving a burn mark on the ground.
“Shit,” muttered Tim. “Cassie, let’s go. Impulse, try to help where you can.”
“You’ve got it.”

Ghosts of Our Pasts: Part 7
DPxDC Crossover
Danny Fenton and Damian Wayne Sibling AU
Masterpost Previous Next
Part 7
"I saw you!"
"Good morning, Wes."
"What were you doing with Bruce Wayne?"
"...nothing?"
"I know he's Batman. And I saw you on the roof!"
"Whoa! Fentoina met Batman? Where you swapping super hero secrets? Did the Butts match?" Dash interjected, not believing a word Wes said.
Danny rolled his eyes as hard as he could, threw a few extra sausages on his plate and went to sit down.
"I think Wes is dreaming of me," Danny informed them.
"Oh no," Sam said, oh so helpfully.
Tucker stared down at his breakfast plate containing various meats. "Uh, creepy? "
"Maybe it's more like astrial projection, he was definitely asleep when I left, and when I got back, but he knew what I was doing."
"Oh, no."
"Sam!"
"You realize he probably already had abilities, and we just didn't notice because Amity Park?" She pointed out.
"Well, I'm realizing. It's the worst thing that's ever happened to me."
"Can we not trauma dump over breakfast?"
---
Edward Lancer had assumed that the lack of 'I'm technically an adult so's were because his students understood the dangers of Gotham. He was wrong, they had simply been waiting for the most effective moment to utterly crumble his argument. That was how one group was split into 4, one for each chaperone.
His group had been in a former supervillain's lair (and it was a lair, even Edward knew what a lair felt like.) for hours. Technically rehabilitated, sure, Edward wasn't going to judge the doctor for past actions, but he wasn't going to feel safe until he left the gardens either.
Ms. Manson didn't seem to mind as she regarded the next plant in the line. She would consider it for a few moments, say some things to the friends that trailed behind her and either move on, or have a one-sided? conversation with it. Tucker and Daniel had their hands clasped behind their backs like young children, they had not touched anything since arriving at the garden. Wes was regarding them all suspiciously, but seemed to be growing tired. The rest of the group had left when another Casper High group arrived, finished the garden tour in a normal hour, and had decided to go somewhere else.
Edward was not suprised when Dr. Pamela Isley strolled purposefully down the aisle, directly to where Samantha stood. Lancer missed whatever the two women had said to each other in his rush to get closer.
"Nah, I fall closer to winter than anything. The Green tends to take offense to my existence." Mr. Fenton told the Doctor. She nodded agreeably and looked to Mr. Foley.
"Same as him but with Tech. I've never tried doing something with plants and I don't plan too."
She looked to Edward, he froze.
"He's just a teacher." Said Ms. Manson, and the lair's owner turned her attention away from him. He it would probably feel offensive if he didn't feel so relieved.

Damian should not have his phone on him; he was in class. His phone buzzed, and Damian was glad he'd chosen to ignore the rule.
Dany had sent a picture, a selfie. In it he was clearly trying not to laugh as Condiment King rampages in the background.
Dany: do I do something? With a little thyme I'm sure I can mustard something up.
Damian almost double checked that a sibling hadn't rearaged his contacts, but the selfie proved this was all Dany... who was facing Condiment King as a civilian...
He did not have time to alert Signal before the next text was received.
Dany:kszkksskmssbsh
Damian: Dany?! Do you require medical assistance?!
Dany: I'm good lmao
Dany: the man sauced Lancer
Dany: one sec
-Dany sent a video-
Damian raised his hand, asking to be excused. Far too much time passed before he reached a place he could watch it in peace. He could not be interrupted if he was to coordinate a plan of action. He pressed play.
The Condiment King sat shamefaced in a restaurant seat as Dany's teacher lectured him on life choices. It was hard to hear exactly what was being said over the snickers from his classmates. The video panned over the briefly before ending. Wait... was that... ?!
Damian: Dany...
Dany: I spell it with 2 n's
Damian: Danny...
Dany: yes?
Damian: that is Poison Ivy at your table...
Dany: She took us out for lunch :D!

This guy was an idiot, Dash thought. He and Kwan had cut through an alley, and now this guy was trying to rob them; at knife point! Them! Two burly football players from Amity Park, and this guy was trying to rob them with this little 4 inch knife!
"Uh, no thanks," Kwan said in disbelief.
"I said hand over your—"
Dash tilted his head, "Buddy, the Box Ghost is more threatening than this,"
"I'm pretty sure the box knife is sharper too," Kwan added. "We need to be on the other side of this alley, so if you could do this later?"
The man sputtered and aimed at Kwan, taking the polite dismissal like fighting words. Kwan rolled his eyes, sidestepping, and Dash snatched the knife out of his hand.
They kept walking, continuing the discussion on how football would be different in college.
The man didn't try to stop them again.

Lester: Great news!
Mikey: ?
Lester: My greatest fear is no longer failing the STAs!
Mikey: makes sense, since we already took it. Mikey: What made you realize?
Lester: Oh, some guy with a bag on his head gassed the street.
Mikey: that's why my parents said I couldn't go.
Lester: Fright's sword was worse to be honest, Our group is heading back to the hotel to sleep it off.
Mikey: How's that?
Lester: Not the first time I've been in a vehicle with shadow monsters.
Lester: Did you see they're making a Doom the Movie?

"I disarmed it,"
"You disarmed it," the officer repeated
"Yeah," the young woman sounded more like she was saying 'duh' . "Wasn't even that complicated! I didn't even need Star's help."
"It was a lame bomb." The blond, Star, agreed.
"Super lame! Everyone always makes Gotham out to be soooo dangerous, but a toddler could dismantle this!" The Latina woman kicked some electrical components with a high heeled foot. "Let's get out of here, find some place interesting!"

* group chat created *
Danny: A group chat with 47 people, delightful
Dick (this is his name lol): It's not that bad...
Tim: sibling groupchat
Danny: Cool, can I add my sisters?
* multiple people are typing *

Only 2 of 4 chaperones still have adequate knowledge of where their group has split off to. Lancer because he is hypervigulant and half his group went joined another group.
Group 2's chaperone because they got gassed and decided it was a good day for a midday nap and their students agreed.
Everyone else is in the wind and will show up at dinner.
STA stands for school testing acronym, I'm so creative!
@shyrebeldonutpickle *bonks you on the head with my creep stick* no threatening in my replies!

Phandom, are y'all okay?
Has anyone else noticed the trend recently of Maddie and Jack are absolutely terrible parents?
Like, don't get me wrong, they're not the greatest parents ever... But they're not always some kind of supervillain/evil scientist power couple who can't look past their own biases to change their opinion in the face of new evidence.
I'm kinda specifically talking about the DPxDC side of Tumblr (mostly because of how much I've been reading in that crossover territory the last few weeks), but I think the general fandom has been falling more and more towards irredeemably evil Drs. Fentons as well.
I mean, I get that it's a trope of the Phandom for the Fentons to disecc Danny. Like, that's not the issue. Or at least, not the whole issue? 'Cause I love a good trauma-filled angst fest as much as the next phan.
There just... Used to be a balance, I guess? Like for every couple of Fentons Bad Parenting there would be a fic of the Fentons accepting Danny. It wouldn't be easy, and there was a boatload of delicious angst in that, depending on what Maddie and Jack had done to Phantom before finding out he is their son. There were fics exploring Maddie and Jack dealing with the emotional fallout of their son dying due to their negligence and not even noticing.
But lately, it's just been Maddie and Jack are terrible people. Full stop. No nuance or shades of grey to them.
And I know there are a ton of people in this fandom who have never even seen the original show and write amazing fanfic anyway. They've learned from what we put out there, and maybe that's why there are no new good parents fics.
But, like, remember when Danny Phantom used to be a very thinly veiled allegory for coming out to your parents? I know not everyone's parents are loving and accepting. I'm not trying to diminish anyone's experiences or anything and I think this has devolved into somewhat incoherent ramblings... And this just may be because I have been in this fandom for over a decade now. I may just be overthinking current trends.
But, are y'all okay? Like, seriously, babies.
Do you want a hug? A cup of cocoa? A parental figure to look you in the eyes and say that your feelings are valid? That you are wanted and appreciated just the way you are?

Future Ghost chapter 6
Danny, in short, was screwed. He stared down at his communicator message. His hack job into his medical files didn’t fool the CMO. Dr. Mccoy was demanding he report immediately to sickbay.
Danny felt almost sick to his stomach…. he couldn’t do this. Maybe if he pretended, he never saw the message, he could avoid this until he had some sort of plan. On one hand, he could just try to overshadow the doctor and make up his medical data that way.
But the idea of overshadowing ----basically possessing anyone on the ship, didn’t sit right with Danny. A huge part of him felt like that would blow up in his face if he were discovered. Nobody liked the idea of something being able to take away one’s free will.
Danny knew that it was probably just a matter of time before something happened where the truth would have to come to light, but he couldn’t bring himself to face it. He felt too scared. How could he ever begin to explain? He never had to explain it to someone before.
Danny wiped his sweaty palms on his pants. To distract himself from his anxiety and fear, he ignored the message and headed to engineering. Maybe getting some work done would help calm his nerves.
*****
"Ensign Fenton!" Scotty's voice rang out across the engineering deck as Danny tried to slip quietly to his station. "A word in my office, lad."
Danny's heart sank. He reluctantly followed Scotty into his office, the door hissing shut behind them. Scotty gestured for Danny to take a seat and leaned back against his desk, arms crossed.
"I just got off the comm with Dr. McCoy," Scotty began, a hint of amusement in his voice. "He sounded mad as a hornet. What did ye do to get under the good doctor's skin?"
Danny shifted uncomfortably. "I... I might have missed a medical appointment."
"Aye, that'll do it." Scotty chuckled. "Listen, lad, I don't know what transpired between you two, but the doc's just lookin' out for your well-being. He's got the crew's best interests at heart, even when he's spittin' fire."
Danny nodded; his gaze fixed on the floor. *I can't let them find out. They'll kick me off the ship for sure. *
Scotty's expression softened as he noticed Danny's nervousness. "I know nobody likes gettin' poked and prodded, but these check-ups are necessary. It's part of keepin' a healthy crew, and it's regulation."
"I understand, sir." Danny's voice was barely above a whisper.
"Medical needs to keep proper records on everyone, Ensign. It's for your own safety and the safety of the crew. We can't have you workin' if you're not fit for duty."
Danny's mind raced. *I have to come up with an excuse. Something believable. * "I... I'm just not comfortable with doctors, sir. Bad experiences in the past."
Scotty nodded sympathetically, his eyes drawn to Danny’s electrical scares and Lichtenberg figures that adorned his wrist all the way up his arm; Scotty always wondered why the lad didn’t get dermal treatment for those. "Aye, I can understand that. But Dr. McCoy's a professional. He'll take good care of you."
*If only it were that simple. * Danny thought, his stomach twisting into knots.
"I'm afraid I can't let you back on shift until you've gotten a clean bill of health from sickbay," Scotty continued. "Them's the rules, lad. I'm sure whatever's got you worried, Dr. McCoy will handle it with discretion."
Danny forced a smile, knowing he had no choice. "Yes, sir. I'll head to sickbay right away."
Scotty clapped him on the shoulder as he stood. "That's the spirit, laddie. Remember, Dr. McCoy's bark is worse than his bite. He's just lookin' out for you."
As Danny left Scotty's office, he couldn't shake the feeling of dread that settled in his chest. *I’m not ready…... I don’t know if I can do this.*
Danny walked through the corridors of the Enterprise, his mind consumed with worry. *What if they find out I'm half-ghost? What if they realize I've been lying about my age? * The thought made his palms sweat.
Lost in thought, he nearly collided with a crewman carrying a stack of PADDs. "Sorry," Danny mumbled, sidestepping the officer.
*I need to calm down, * he told himself, taking a deep breath. *Panicking won't help. *
Danny's heart raced as he approached the doors to the sickbay. He hesitated, just out of the door scanner to grant entry. *I can't do this, * he thought, panic rising in his chest. *They'll never accept me. *
He stepped back, running a hand through his messy black hair. *Scotty said I can't return to duty until I get cleared by Dr. McCoy, but...* Danny glanced around, making sure he was alone. *Maybe I can just hide out for a while, pretend I went to the checkup. *
Danny turned on his heel and hurried away from sickbay, his mind racing. He couldn't risk exposure and couldn't bear the thought of being sent away, hunted, or experimented on.
As he walked, he tried to come up with a plan. *I just need some time…...I need somewhere to clear my head. *
An idea slowly formed in Danny’s mind. *That will help…...* With a new purpose in his step. Danny set forth to his new destination.
**** Danny's breath misted the visor of the space suit as he fiddled with the tether, securing it to his belt. The vastness of space beckoned him, an ocean of darkness speckled with distant suns. His heart raced with the thought of what he was about to do—no one had ever tried to swim in the void as a ghost. But his core sang with happiness, and he felt his space obsession delight in what he was doing. He felt his worry and fear melt away. He felt happy and full.
"Okay, Fenton," he muttered to himself, checking the seals on his suit one last time. "Time to see what you're really made of." Danny allowed his ghost side to wash over his human form. Triggering his transformation into Phantom. Before doing this, he had made sure to mess with the security footage in this room.
He hesitated at the airlock door, but with a deep breath he didn’t need, he turned his body intangible and phased through the door. No need to alert anyone to his presence by triggering an alarm with the opening of the airlock door.
"Here goes nothing." With those words, he floated out. His legs merge into this ghostly tail. He felt the light as a feather. His ghost side gave a sigh of relief. It felt like he could finally stretch his legs after being cramped for so long. Before really getting into his space swim. He made sure to latch his tether to the handle on the ship's side. The last thing he wanted was to get stranded out in space. For the starship to leave him behind. Danny did not want to imagine getting lost in space. He was unsure how long he would last or if it would lead to a second death for him.
He pushed off into the nothingness, the tether his only lifeline to reality.
"Whoa!" he exclaimed as he floated away from the ship, his ghostly form shimmering like a mirage. Danny looked down at his hands, now translucent and glowing with an eerie light, and then up at the stars. They seemed so close he could almost touch them.
The silence of space was profound, but Danny's excitement filled the void. He twirled and dove, the tether spiraling out behind him. For a moment, he forgot about sick bay, McCoy's relentless pursuit, and the hunger that gnawed at him endlessly. Danny had found that he was also struggling to have a proper diet. It was so hard to balance his ghostly and human needs. It felt like his ghostly side was slowly starving. Danny felt like it was the lack of ectoplasm to eat. Which meant he had to work harder to feed his obsessions and eat more in his human form. But it was harder to get approved for more in his meal plan. And it would set off red flags with the amount he would need to eat.
*I’ll be fine; I’ve survived worse……. * Danny reassured himself.
He spun around, taking in the panoramic view of the universe that sprawled before him, a frontier vaster than any sea. The stars twinkled each one a secret, each one a story waiting to be told. Danny let himself relax and his thoughts quiet down.
With a contented sigh, he reeled himself in, the tether guiding him back to the ship. Once inside, Danny phased back into his human form.
As relaxing as that was, it did help calm his nerves. Danny still couldn’t make himself go to sickbay. *I need more time……I guess I better find another distraction. *
*****
"Dammit, where is that boy?" Dr. McCoy grumbled under his breath as he navigated the labyrinthine corridors of the ship. The Ensign had managed to avoid him for three days now. Scotty offered to enact disciplinary action if this continued but also shared with Mccoy how nervous the boy seemed. Mccoy had declined, saying they could chew the ensign out once he dragged him to sickbay.
At this point, McCoy took this whole thing as a challenge. He would drag that boy into sick bay by the scruff of his neck if he had to. This also confirmed to Mccoy that the ensign was hiding something. And likely violated multiple Starfleet regulations. The only reason McCoy didn’t just wash his hands of it and bring this to Jim and court Marshall the kid was because something in his gut told him to handle this personally first, and the kid hadn’t done anything maliciously.
Mccoy mumbled to himself, "That kid's dodging me like I'm a rogue comet."
Currently, Mccoy is heading to the mess hall. The last location the computer listed the ensign to be. It was driving Mccoy up the wall that the computer kept malfunctioning as well when asked about the ensign. It also puzzled Mccoy how Fenton’s been able to slip out without him noticing, especially in places with only one exit. Mccoy tried really hard not to be impressed by that. He would not be outdone. Also, Jim would never let him live it down that he let an ensign pull one over him.

"Checkmate in four moves, Danny," Tina declared with a triumphant smirk, sliding her knight across the chessboard.
"Are you sure?" Danny quipped, hovering his hand over a bishop as he scrutinized the board. "Because I think you missed—"
"Missed nothing," Tina interjected with confidence. "I've seen Chekov play; trust me, I've learned from the best."
He chuckled and leaned back in his chair, exaggerating his bow as he conceded the game. "Alright, alright, Yeoman Lawton, I yield to your superior strategy."
"Better luck next time," she said, beginning to reset the pieces for another round.
"Actually, Danny," Ensign Kas Th'qaakress interrupted, her antennae twitching with concern, "I wanted to talk to you about something."
"Sure, what's up?" Danny asked, turning towards the Andorian ensign, hoping to steer away from any serious topics.
"It's about sick bay," Kas began hesitantly. "Dr. McCoy is really worried about you. You've been dodging him for days now.”
"Is he?" Danny feigned surprise, knowing full well the cat-and-mouse game he'd been playing with the doctor. "I'm just not a fan of sick bays, that's all."
"Look, I get it," Kas reassured him with a gentle smile. "But he's only trying to help. And between us, you're driving him a little insane, which, as my boss, makes my life harder."
"Me? Drive someone insane?" He tried to keep his tone light, but a flicker of guilt was behind his eyes.
"Ha, yes, you," Kas replied with a soft laugh. "He really cares, you know. Despite the gruff exterior, Dr. McCoy is one of the kindest souls on this ship. And, well, if you're scared, I can go with you. Moral support and all that."
"Actually, I've always had this... phobia of sick bays," Danny stammered, watching Kas's antennae twitch ever so slightly—a sign, he'd learned, of her concern or curiosity. "Sterile rooms, weird smells, it just freaks me out."
"Phobia?" Kas tilted her head, her blue skin catching the light from the overhead lamps. "You know, phobias can be treated in sickbay—"
"Which is ironic, isn't it?" Danny cut in with a nervous chuckle.
"Listen," Kas leaned in, her voice low and earnest. “You could get into a lot of trouble if you keep doing this…... I don’t want to see you get in that kind of trouble. You’re really pushing McCoy’s buttons here, and he’s giving you a lot of chances here. Can you at least think about going in today? Like I said, I’ll go with you.”
"Thanks, Kas," Danny said, a genuine smile touching his lips. "I'll think about it, okay?"
"Promise?" she pressed, her black eyes locking onto his.
"I’ll try," he replied, but he couldn’t see himself walking into sickbay by himself.
Before Kas could reply, Daryl Mcdonnell approached their table with a half-eaten plate of food. "Mind if I join you guys for a bit?" He asked, already sitting down.
"Of course, Don," Danny replied, scooting over to make room.
Kas greeted Darlyn with a bright smile, and they quickly fell into conversation about the latest scientific readings from the ship's scanners. Danny joined where he could, but his gaze drifted to the untouched portion of Daryl's meal. He felt the gnawing hunger inside him intensify—his ghost half was hungrier than he'd anticipated today.
"Hey, kid," Daryl suddenly said, pushing his plate toward Danny. "I'm not going to finish this. Why don't you help yourself?"
Danny hesitated, knowing full well that eating too much would raise questions he wasn't ready to answer. But the instinctual pull was too strong, and he found himself nodding gratefully. "Thanks. I'm actually really hungry today."
Daryl hummed in response and then said, "I missed you in Engineering these past couple of days. Have you settled that issue with sickbay yet?"
As Danny ate, the relief of satiating his hunger was overshadowed by the sharp spike of anxiety at Daryl’s question.
“What? How do you know about that? OMG, how many people know about that?” Danny stared in dawning horror, thinking the whole ship might be aware of his avoidance of sickbay.
“Well, I don’t know how many people know, per se; engineering knows, probably all of medical…. I will say this is really feeding the rumor mill.” Daryl remarked.
“WHAT!? Rumor mill……what do you mean?” Danny stuttered with clear panic in his voice.
“Hey easy there, it’s nothing bad…...Look kid, we’re all stuck on this ship in the middle of nowhere, there are rumors for everyone and…...gossip and news travels fast.”
Before Danny could give a snarky remark or demand answers in a calm, totally not panicked way. He stiffened. He felt the familiar presence of the ship's CMO. Over the past few days, Danny has been honing his ghost senses to pick up on Dr. Mccoy’s essence and emotional output. This had given him the time to run away.
“I…...never mind…...I’ll be right back. With that, Danny hastily got up and moved quickly to the replicators. He couldn’t go to the exit, the doctor felt close, and there wouldn’t be enough time to turn invisible without being spotted. In panic, Danny crawled under the nearest table. He couldn’t afford to worry about how many people may have witnessed him hide under a mass hall table like a weirdo.
Kas shifted uneasily. She'd glimpsed Danny diving under a table across the room seconds before Dr. McCoy strode in, brow furrowed and mouth a grim line.
McCoy halted at their table. "Any of you seen Ensign Fenton?" His glare could melt hull plating.
Tina and Daryl exchanged glances. Kas bit her lip. She couldn't lie to McCoy. But Danny was avoiding sickbay for a reason...
McCoy's eyes narrowed. "Well?"
Kas's antennae twitched. She had to say something. Slowly, she pointed to the table. McCoy raised an eyebrow.
"He's under there," Kas mouthed.
Daryl shot her a look. Tina scowled.
Kas's stomach knotted with guilt and worry. *What was Danny hiding? He needed help, even if he refused to admit it. *
Danny held his breath under the table, invisible. His heart hammered against his ribs. McCoy knew.
McCoy stomped over to the table, his face like a thundercloud. "Ensign Fenton!" he barked. "If you think hiding under there will work, you've got another thing coming!"
Danny flinched at the fury in McCoy's voice. Sweat beaded on his forehead.
"If I have to bend down and drag you out myself, there will be hell to pay!" McCoy growled. "I'll make sure your physical is extra unpleasant!"
Danny hugged his knees tighter to his chest. Maybe if he stayed perfectly still...
McCoy's foot tapped an impatient rhythm. "I'm counting to three, Ensign. One..."
Danny squeezed his eyes shut.
"Two..."
His muscles tensed, ready to bolt.
"Three!" McCoy dropped to his knees and ducked his head under the table. "All right, you little--"
He froze. Blinked. Staring at the empty space.
Danny held his breath, invisible, hardly daring to move.
Slowly, McCoy straightened up. He whirled to face Kas, eyes blazing. "Well?" he demanded.
Kas's antennae quivered. "I swear, Doctor, he went under there! I saw him!"
"It's true," Daryl chimed in. "Impressive, really. Kid gave us the slip."
McCoy's jaw clenched. He clearly didn't believe them.
Whipping out his communicator, McCoy snapped, "Computer, locate Ensign Fenton."
"Ensign Fenton is in the Mess Hall," the computer replied.
McCoy threw up his hands. "Blasted useless technology! Been on the fritz all week." He looked back at Daryl and Kas; Mccoy took a deep breath and pinched the bridge of his nose. He did a quick count to ten, calming his temper. “If you see him, please tell him to go to sickbay.”
As McCoy stormed out, Danny let out a shaky breath. That was close. Too close.
He couldn't keep this up forever. Sooner or later, his secret would come out.
He just needed a little more time.
Hours ticked by. The Mess Hall gradually emptied out as crewmembers finished their meals and headed off to their duties or leisure activities.
Danny remained hidden, invisible, under the table. His legs were starting to cramp, but he didn't dare move.
Where could he go? His quarters weren't safe. McCoy might come looking for him there.
And then there was Weston. Danny's roommate had been suspicious from the start, always watching him, asking probing questions Danny couldn't answer.
"You're not human," Weston had accused last night, eyes narrowed. "I don't know what you are, but I will find out. And when I do..."
He'd left the threat hanging, but the message was clear: If Weston discovered the truth, it wouldn't end well for Danny.
Danny shivered, hugging himself tighter.
****
"I'm tellin' ya, the lad's been avoidin' me like the plague," Dr. McCoy grumbled, pacing in Scotty's office. "It's been days now, and he still hasn't shown up for his medical clearance. Can't let him back on duty 'til I give the okay."
Scotty leaned back in his chair, stroking his chin thoughtfully. "Aye, the wee ensign hasn't been any trouble in Engineering though. He seems to look up to me as his commanding officer. Tell ya what, Doctor—I'll comm the lad and have him report to my office. You can be waitin' here for him."
McCoy stopped pacing and fixed Scotty with a shrewd look. "And if he still refuses the exam after that?"
"Then we take it to the Captain," Scotty said firmly. "The boy has to follow orders or face disciplinary action, maybe even court-martial, for violatin' Starfleet regs. But let's give him one more chance to come 'round on his own first, eh?"
McCoy nodded slowly. "Alright, one more chance. But I've got a funny feeling about this one, Scotty. Kid's hidin' something; I can feel it in my bones. And I aim to find out what..."
Meanwhile, Danny hurried down the corridor toward Engineering, his heart thudding in his chest. The message from Mr. Scott had sounded urgent—his boss wanted to see him in his office right away. Danny knew it had to be about him avoiding his medical exam...
Danny froze, heart leaping into his throat as he sensed a familiar presence inside Engineering. Dr. McCoy was in there waiting for him. This whole thing had been a trap!
His hands shook as he stared at the closed doors, mind racing for an escape.
Danny nearly jumped out of his skin when a large hand landed on his shoulder. He spun around to find Lt. McDonnell looking down at him, brows knitted with concern.
"Easy there, lad. You alright?" the older man asked. "Looking a mite peaky, if you ask me."
"I-I'm fine," Danny stammered, trying for a smile that felt more like a grimace. "Just heading to see Mr. Scott about...about a project."
Daryl's eyes narrowed. "This wouldn't have anything to do with you dodging your physical, now, would it? Because the CMO is madder than a wet hen over in there."
Danny blanched, mouth opening and closing like a landed fish. "W-what? No! I mean, maybe? I was gonna go, I swear, but I... I got busy?"
The engineer sighed, shaking his head. "Look, I can go in there with you if you need moral support. But you gotta stop running from this, Danny. It's not gonna end well."
Danny looked away, feeling his face heat.
"Is it 'cause you lied about your age, son?" Daryl asked quietly.
Danny's head snapped up, eyes wide with shock and fear. He stared at the lieutenant; mouth suddenly bone dry. After a long moment, he managed a shaky nod.
Daryl huffed, muttering something that sounded like "I knew it" under his breath. He fixed Danny with a sympathetic look.
"I get it, lad. You're scared. But this stuff...it can't stay secret forever. And trust me, the brass? They're a decent bunch. They won't just kick you to the curb the first chance they get."
The older man gave his shoulder a gentle squeeze. "We take care of our own here, Danny. No matter what. You hear me?"
Danny swallowed hard, blinking back the sudden sting of tears. He wasn't used to people actually giving a damn about him. Maybe...maybe it would be okay? If Daryl said, he could trust them...
Taking a deep, fortifying breath, Danny squared his shoulders and hit the door control.
Here goes nothing...
Danny barely had time to process Scotty's disappointed frown before Dr. McCoy descended on him like an avenging angel.
"And just where the hell have you been, Ensign?" the doctor growled, already waving his tricorder over Danny's tense form. "I've been trying to track you down for days! You can't just skip out on mandatory physicals, kid. It's against reg-"
McCoy trailed off abruptly, his scowl deepening as he glared at the tricorder readings. He gave it a sharp smack as if that would change the impossible data scrolling across the screen.
Danny's heart hammered against his ribs. Oh god, this was it. McCoy knew. Any second now, he would start demanding answers Danny couldn't give. He'd be kicked out of Starfleet, shipped back to…...who knows where…. what if they just tossed him on a random planet…. deeming him a danger to the crew?
Danny sucked in a shuddery breath; his traitorous eyes kept darting to the door. If he could make a run for it...
Strong fingers wrapped around his upper arm in an unbreakable grip. Danny flinched, head jerking up to meet McCoy's piercing gaze.
"Oh no, you don't," the doctor said, his voice low and intense. "I know that look, Ensign. You even think about rabbiting on me, and I'll have you in restraints before you can blink."
Danny blanched, knees going weak. McCoy must have felt him wobble because his other hand came up to steady him, and his hand on his arm was gentle, his thumb rubbing soothing circles into Danny's bicep.
"Aw hell, kid. I'm not gonna hurt you," he sighed, the fire bleeding out of his tone. "I just want to help. But I can't do that if you keep running from me."
Danny bit his lip, blinking hard against the sudden sting of tears. He was so tired of running, of hiding. Maybe...maybe it was time to stop. But how would he explain any of this?
"I’m sorry," he whispered, his voice small and shaky. "I... I’ll go with you. To sickbay. I didn’t mean to cause any trouble….”
McCoy's face softened, relief etched into the lines around his eyes. "That's all I ask, son. Come on, then. Let's get you checked out properly."
As McCoy led him out of Scotty's office, one strong arm wrapped around his shoulders, Danny was lost in his own mind. He felt weak and scared. What if they hated him, or what if he was too much of a freak? Where would he even start? Would they even believe him? Lost in thought, Danny didn’t notice that he was leaning into Mccoy and the support his hold provided.

Things Don't Stay Forever
Chapter 2: “I guess what scares me the most now is the thought that I won't be able to protect you.”
Jazz frowned down at her phone. She attempted to call her house phone multiple times since Danny hung up on her—rather abruptly—but all she received in return was a continuous ringing tone and then her family’s answering machine.
“Hello, this is Dr. Madeline Fenton—”
“—And Jack Fenton!”
“And you’ve reached Fenton Works. We can’t come to the ph—”
Jazz presses the call-end button and sighs. She takes a deep breath in and, determined, presses the back button, clicks the back and forth buttons on her Razr, and locates her address book, pressing the down arrow until she finds her brother’s cell phone number and clicks call.
Bringing it to her ear, she silently begs him to answer but immediately after the first ring, she hears the “call waiting” tone.
“Ugh!” She scoffs, and hangs up again, slumping down in her seat. Jazz rubs her hand against the side of her face, closes her eyes, and cups her frown. This is so frustrating.
She scared him. She scared him because she was scared. She cried. Why did she cry? And now Danny’s not picking up his phone or the house phone. Probably because he’s rushing to find her. Because she scared him and why? Why did she bring up dying? She knows how he feels about—
Jazz lets out a quick huff through her nose. She isn’t—she isn’t dying. She knows that. Danny said so himself too. Said he would feel if something was wrong. How? She doesn’t know. Danny’s connection to death is something she could never completely understand but she believed him, so incredibly strongly, when he was insistent he would know.
She trusts her brother with her life and beyond. It’s this infection spreading through the world she’s afraid of.
Besides, she also didn’t feel like she was dying. She didn’t even feel sick. But being near so many people these last two days has left her with the feeling she’s covered in bacteria and germs, not the good ones. Like the virus is in every pore of her body. Like she’s patient zero waiting for her body to be burned. She feels gross, but not sick. Not even close. She feels normal. Well, almost normal. This trip hasn’t been an easy one.
There would be signs though, right? Something showing on her skin? She would feel ill or look it at least. She catches a glimpse of herself in the rearview mirror. Actually, she does look ill. Her face is pale and drawn but isn’t that to be expected when one is hurrying home, driving cross country during a pandemic?
Maybe she should be feeling nauseous or something. She doesn’t know. There hasn’t been much reporting on the actual virus and while there is video of the infected and the effects of the areas they’re in such as burning villages and abandoned homes, they look like anyone else would if they had caught the flu. So. Not helpful.
The media has been hush-hush about the virus itself, though they’ve been very excited to show scene after scene of the Justice League running around all over the globe. And the CDC’s only knowledge is it takes up to twenty to thirty minutes for an infected person to show symptoms.
But what were those symptoms?
Opening her eyes, she pats herself down randomly, searching for any physical recognition of infection on her body. She pulls her visor down and stares at herself in the little mirror. She checks her eyes, and her cheeks, and opens her mouth wide to look inside but sees nothing different about her features.
Jazz notes her canines are larger than she remembers but it’s most likely from the ambient ectoplasm back in Cheyenne she took in when she parked to rest in the Walmart parking lot that was, conveniently, across from a cemetery. One of the few good things that happened to her on this trip so far.
She notices a small, light strand of blue near her bangs and brushes it aside a few times to conceal it. She turns her head right, then left but nothing else has changed besides the heavy and dark bags under her eyes, and her hooded lids lowered and tired.
She looks exhausted and weary. This whole situation has been emotionally and physically draining. Ever since Danny called her, three weeks ago, frantic and paranoid something was coming. He couldn’t tell her what it was, what he could sense, but something was coming and she needed to head home right that moment.
Dazing past her visor out her windshield, she should have followed his advice instead of being worried about her classes, her homework, and what her professors would have thought, Jazz thinks.
She trusts her brother, she does. If his instincts were screaming something was wrong, then something was wrong. She should have listened. She should have ran as fast as she could to her car and taken off. Gone home. Rushed back to be at her brother’s side to prepare for whatever was coming. But she didn’t.
And she’s here now. Sitting in her car, in a state that is not her own, possibly infected with a virus no one knows anything about, her phone battery at thirty-three percent, and waiting for her brother to find her after she’d nearly given him a heart attack with worry.
Jazz huffs and rests her head against her window. She hadn’t meant to scare him so badly. She had wanted to warn him instead. Well, no. That hadn’t been completely it. She also called to hear his voice. Feel some comfort and normalcy from talking to her brother. Maybe pretend for a moment she was simply driving home to spend the rest of summer with her family instead of running from something she couldn’t see or fight.
Her intention, though, was to tell Danny she was okay. That there were some minor complications along the way but she had a plan in place in case—in case—
Closing her eyes, Jazz takes another deep breath in and five seconds later, lets out a shaky one.
She just wanted to plan in advance in case anything happened. That’s all. Plans are good, better than good, they’re great to have! And Jazz has always been a planner. A fantastic one, if she does say so herself. So if she was exposed and is infected then she needs an organized list of instructions to follow so no one else is exposed too.
Better to be safe than sorry, right? She always says this and believes in it so strongly. One can never be too cautious. She’s told Danny this a million times. ‘Danny, make sure to grab your coat. It’s cold out there. Better to be safe than sorry.’ or ‘Mom and dad are going to be busy again tonight so make sure you come home right after school! I mean it. I don’t want you outside so late at night. Better to be safe than sorry, Danny.’
‘I don’t want you coming out here to save me. I want you to stay home, locked tightly in your room and away from all this. Better to be safe than sorry, right Danny?’
Jazz leans her head back against the headrest. She stares up at the dark grey roof of her car and breathes.
‘In one …two…three…four…five. Out one…two…three…’
She wants to be precautious. If she is infected—not dying, just sick—Danny said she wasn’t dying. Jazz doesn’t want to take the chance of making the trip home only to infect thousands of living people in Amity Park. She could never forgive herself. And if she exposes Danny…
She needs a plan of action.
But with Danny coming to get her what is she going to do now?
Abruptly, she sits up and opens her phone again, hits speed dial, and calls her house phone. Up to her ear, she listens to the ringing on the other side. The tone rings, over and over, making her anxious. She’s not expecting Danny to answer or even her parents but she wishes one of them would anyway.
“Come on, come on! Pick up, Danny. Please.”
“Hello, this is Dr. Madeline Fenton—”
“—And Jack Fenton!”
“And you’ve reached Fent—”
Jazz hangs up, and calls again.
“Hello, this is Dr. Madeline—”
Hangs up. Calls again.
“Hello, this is Dr. Mad—”
Hangs up.
“Hello, this is—”
Again.
“Hello—”
“Argh!” Jazz shouts and grips her phone tightly in both hands, shaking and bringing it to her forehead. She doesn’t cry because there is no point to it and what good would it do her anyway? It won’t make Danny answer his stupid phone, will it?
Jazz tries again. She finds her brother’s number and calls it. Although at this point, she doesn’t expect him to pick up this time either. And just like she expected, his phone goes straight to voicemail.
“Hey, this is Danny Fenton. If you’re trying to reach Drs. Fenton, you’ve got the wrong number.”
Jazz huffs at his bored tone, typical Danny, and listens to his recorded message waiting for it to end.
“If you’re the school, I didn’t do it! And if you’re calling for me, good luck, buddy! Maybe try me again in the next life. Thanks.”
Jazz goes to say something thinking the message is over before she’s cut off.
“Oh, leave a message for me, I guess. I’ll, uh, try and call back?”
The tone beeps. Jazz rolls her eyes and takes a deep breath in and—
“Danny Fenton! If you don’t pick up this phone right now I swear—” She grips the phone tightly and looks out her passenger-side window. There’s a residential neighborhood just across the road. She watches a family head out of their house, hurried and with suitcases in hand.
“Listen to me. I can’t stop you from coming for me. I know that. But you still need to be cautious when you do get here. We don’t know what this virus can do still. And I don’t know if I’m infected or not. So…wear a mask and make sure to bring gloves for you and me! If you’re bringing the Speeder, then pack mom’s extra hazmat. And an extra one for you too, mister! Also, Clorox wipes to wipe my stuff.”
She’s still watching the family across her way, absentmindedly. They pack the suitcases in the trunk of the car and close it shut. The parents usher their children to their seats and fasten them in. She watches them run to either side of the red car, and get in quickly, doors slamming loud, engine roaring louder.
“I don’t want us to risk anything. Do you hear me? You better hear this message before you get here, you jerk. Maybe if you hadn’t hung up on me I would have been able to explain all this to you.” Jazz rubs her forehead, agitated.
The car backs up fast from the driveway. Her eyes follow it as the family of four zooms forward down the street towards the intersection where she’s parked across on the side of the road.
“Maybe bring extra ecto-shots with you. Just in case something happens. You never know when we may need them.”
Jazz watches the car get closer to the intersection, stops at the stop sign like all good drivers do, and moves to turn left.
“Better to be safe than sor—”
—A loud screeching sound. Metal crashing into metal and glass resoundingly shattering from the pressure of a body shooting through the window. The sound of tires bursting. A body hits the ground and rolls until it comes to a full stop, mere feet away from Jazz’s car.
There are shards of glass and metal scattered all over the road. A large, rolling sound. A scream that belonged to someone in her car. Did she scream? Was that her?
Then silence.
Jazz is breathing heavy. She holds her head in her hand where she grips strands of her hair firmly. Her other is gripping her phone tightly in a fist. She hears a creaking sound but can’t tell if it’s coming from the crash site or her own hand.
“What just—was that—?”
A car that had just been turning a millisecond ago—that had a family of four sitting inside not moments ago— was now twisted and broken, lying upside down on the road behind her.
Jazz slowly lifts the phone back to her ear and stares in horror at the body on the ground—that was the father— her body twisted to look at the crash, smoke rising up from the pickup that had slammed into the body of the smaller car.
“I got to go. I’ll—I’ll see you soon, Danny.”
She hangs up.

IDEA TIME
Kidnapping Circus AU
Danny had been handed over to the GIW by the Drs. Fenton while Jazz was put of town after he told them the truth.
He was in transport to be taken to a more secure location when the vehicle crashed in a remote location, being noticed by the owner/s of a traveling circus. They used the same restraints, chains, weapons, etc. that were being used by the GIW to add Danny unwillingly to their circus, which was more of a traveling freak show.
Surprise surprise, none of the meta "employees" are voluntarily working there, treated more similarly to how many circuses treat animals. Danny, due to his otherworldly ghost form and singing capabilities (like Ember, but they don't hypnotize people, they project emotions), was shown off in his own little sideshow, enchanting viewers. A green-tinted metal collar with six chains made from the same metal attached to it equally spaced apart was kept on him during shows, and only the chain on the front and the one on the back would be removed at any other time.
The other people "working" there would sneak him food from time to time, due to the people in charge underfeeding him to the point of it almost being glaringly visible. Eventually, the metas being kept there were able to get out a message for help that reached the Batclan, if not the Justice League. A group is sent undercover to the circus to investigate, and surprise again! This is another twin AU.
My first version of this was where Danny and Damian are twins, and when Danny disappeared from the League after either failing an assignment, losing a match against Damian, or getting killed, Damian assumes that Ra's had him killed / not revived. Then Dami finds his brother at the circus, etc. etc., but this could also be a Tim-is-Danny's-twin-AU type scenario.
My best idea for that one is Danny was kidnapped for ransom when he and Tim where young, and the Drs. Fenton found Danny first and went, "Welp! Finders keepers :)" and didn't look into it any more than that. Tim went to look for him on his own after his parents stopped looking (pretty quickly, just long enough to make it seem like they cared), which started his interest in Batman, and then the rest is history.
Jazz, Sam, Tucker, Valerie, and Wes (I don't know much about him but he seems like he'd be a good fit for Team Phantom after a redemption arc) are still looking for Danny and trying to bring down the GIW the whole time this is happening. I like to ghink that Danny's rogues are also helping Team Phantom. At this point, Danny and the others are about 15-16 years old.
Dick is absolutely offended by this pathetic excuse for a circus. Any of the metas working there after it gets shut down that don't have anywhere to go and still want to work in a circus get directed to the one that Dick's from.

Role Reversal AU
Basically, the heroes are villains and the villains are heroes or civilians.
There's a lot of information that I packed into this post.
Beings that aren't included in the swap are: Captain Marvel/Shazam/Champion Teth/Black Adam Captain N*zi (because fuck no is any n*zi going to be anything but evil. No Marvel mistakes with this au.) The Seven Deadly Enemies of Man Literally all of the villains trapped on/in the Rock of Eternity Orange Lantern The Blue Lanterns The Indigo Lanterns White and Black Lanterns Demons maybe Constantine? what do you guys think? Darkseid (good darkseid could be interesting tho) Doomsday Hfuhruhurr (aka Word-Bringer; an alien that collects brains from all over the universe to create an immortal hive mind called "The Union") Mongul 5th dimensional beings (they just like annoying people in general) Pariah Dark probably more
Some Heroes: Amity Park - Plasmius, Technus, Skulker, GIW, Maddie & Jack Gotham - Joker, Two-Face, Bane, Killer Croc, Poison Ivy, Ra's Al Ghul (the LOA is more like a secret watcher's society but more infighting in a friendly way) Metropolis - Lex Luthor, Cyborg Superman, Metallo, Parasite London - Cheetah, Giganta, Circe(part-time) Justice League (leaders) - Talia Al Ghul, Lex, Professor Zoom, Cheetah, Star Sapphire (Carol Ferris), Black Manta, Cyborgirl Justice League (general) - Poison Ivy, Gorilla Grodd, Captain Marvel, Red Lantern(Guy Gardner), etc.
Most villains who don't commit any violent crime are simply civilians in this au. (ex: Catwoman, Box Ghost, or Kite Man) Some villains - like Sivanna - become civilians while their family members become villains.
Some background info:
Danny dies and it pisses him off that his parents don't notice. Sam and Tucker agree and they become menaces to Amity Park. Maddie and Jack notice and decide that someone needs to reign in the troublemakers, which makes things worse. Then, the ghosts start noticing and they start sending a ghost to take care of the rogue ghost. Eventually, they find that Skulker and Technus are best suited to deal with the trio. Wolf and Cujo join the trio. Plasmius joins Skulker and Technus and they start trying to clone Danny to try to create an equal to fight against him. The clones are mostly viable because of the help of Technus and the Fentons. Team Phantom kill the clones except for Dani, who joins them. Jazz, while not evil, isn't good either. She just wants to prevent her brother from killing their parents. Because all the good guys are much less concerned with keeping civilians safe, there are a few casualties, which includes Jazz. Jazz notices that Team Phantom might be right about her parents, so she leaves Amity and eventually teams up with Zatanna. TLDR; Danny's mad at his parents and makes Team Phantom to cause chaos around Amity Park. Jazz leaves after she dies and joins Zatanna.
Zatanna (and her father) were low level thieves that were performing as stage magicians before Nabu's helmet turned Giovanni into Dr Fate. Zatanna became enraged at how he wouldn't give her father back and started murdering and stealing other magic user's powers and tomes in hopes of one day returning her father to her. After she found Jazz, who offered to help remove the helmet, she stopped murdering as many people. The two often help Klarion get in the way of Nabu's plans to get rid of anything he perceives as chaotic. While they happen to befriend Klarion, they never stop stealing.
Bruce becomes Owlman and is in charge of the Court of Owls. Tim, Dick, and Jason become Talons. Alfred is known as the Executioner. Barbara is a jewel thief until she loses the ability to walk thanks to falling off a roof while being chased by Joker. After, she becomes a cyber security threat that constantly steals, releases criminals from jail, and hacks into whatever tech the heroes use. Kate becomes a mob boss. Signal starts out stealing, but accidentally turns into a small time mob boss that works on the opposite side of the city. Commissioner Gordon is a corrupt cop who is firmly in Bruce's pocket. He sometimes fills in for Bruce during CoO meetings when Lucius can't. Cass is an assassin called Orphan that inspires more fear than (canon) Deathstroke. Steph got annoyed by how often her dad (cluemaster) was out of the house and became Spoiler - a villain similar to (canon) Riddler. Selena, while she's a civilian, also happens to be Bruce's street level informant.
Clark, while still having been raised by Martha and John Kent and becoming Superman, decides that being a hero is rather boring. While ruling the world sounds intriguing, he's seen many other villains that are just as competent as he is that want to rule. So he decides that he wants to be a complete (rather dark) nuisance. He ruins buildings by tagging them with his heat vision, freezes major water sources, cloned Lex and himself (technically it's a test tube baby but whatever) once, finds ways to steal everyone's stashes of kryptonite, and sometimes murders people. Kon or Conner lives with Lex part time and has two loving parents, both of which don't understand why he enjoys randomly jumping into their battles and fighting them both (causing as much property damage as possible). Lois helps keep criminal activity out of the papers and clocks Clark as Superman right away. She regularly publishes smear campaigns against the heroes and paints Superman in good light. Kara and her clone - Powergirl - regularly fight against Parasite and Cyborg Superman who constantly thwart their plans to take over the world (they're taking Lex's route).
Green Lanterns are like corrupt cops whose mission is to exert their will over others. Hal kills his dad's previous employer while Sinestro tries to stop him. Sinestro creates the Sinestro Corps and is much more like "our and others' fears fuel us and drive us to be able to save people" rather than "fear is true power and should be used as a way to control people". When Parallax takes over Hal, they become the ultimate hero but over time Parallax starts to become corrupted by his willpower and Specter jumps in to keep Parallax from becoming the ultimate evil. After a while Parallax decides that Sinestro is a much better host and both him and Specter leave Hal, who decides to take a long break doing petty crime before breaking the Green Lanterns out of prison. Carol, in the beginning, stops Hal and other Green Lanterns from committing crimes but eventually stops and focuses mostly on taking care of her business and the Star Sapphires. The Green Lantern's main enemies are the Yellow Lanterns, Red Lanterns, and the Manhunters. Blue Lanterns tend to avoid the Green Lanterns and work with the Manhunters.
Barry is super cruel and Eobard Thawne (aka Reverse Flash or Professor Zoom) came from the future to prevent him from destroying everything. Barry's backstory is either he killed his mom and pinned it on his dad, or he ran away from home a few times and his parents died while trying to find him. Thawne is very careful about avoiding Barry while he's a civilian, but is aware that he needs to be close in order to prevent Barry from destroying the timeline or murdering everyone.
Diana has plans on taking over the world of man and eradicating the men while leaving the women in order to create a perfect world for women. Cheetah, Giganta, and (to a lesser extent) Cerce understand that men are needed just as much as women are in order for the world to continue on.

Had to continue, just... so good.
...
Danny thought it would be better, easier without his soul mates phantom caresses and random pains. It was not. He found himself waiting for the feeling of a bruised elbow, a scraped knee, a black eye. Sure he got plenty of those himself between Dash and being Phantom. But, those were HIS hurts not, theirs. There was something almost soothing to it, like a reminder they were still there still a possibility.
Now?
Now Danny aches, the Rejection scar feels like what grandma Ida says arthritis feels like, a deep ache in your bones coming in waves but never truly gone. He feels jittery and nervous. A cell phone ringing ringing ringing but never connecting.
He hopes desperately his soul mate doesn't feel like this. It's almost worse than the fear of making them die, not quite, but a close second. Trading one fear and hurt for another.
He finds himself distracted more easily, his left hand almost always resting on his Rejection scar. A reminder, a reason, a promise. He gets more injures as phantom. More as Fenton too. His parents don't notice, Jazz does but she just makes sure his backpack always has snacks and a freshly packed first aid kit.
Sam and Tucker try, they really do. But neither of them have Rejection scars, Sam has a drawing on her right hip, and Tucker has a phrase on his left arm. They worry for him but they can't understand. They argue about whether or not it was the right thing to do. Yoyoing back and forth creating another background argument for his life.
Its been three months since he Rejected his soulmate. He wonders how his soul mates doing as he stares blankly out his classroom window.
Danny's chest hurts.
....
Tim felt like shit. His chest ached like someone had stomped on it and fractured his ribs then poured boiling hot water over it. His incessant scratching and rhythmic thumping on his chest surely didn't help but it was the only things that could replicate what the bond felt like, even if it was just the feeling of Rejection.
His eyebags had carryons as Dick liked to point out. Tim had hardly left the cave in the last 3 months. Between bouts of incessant sobbing and intense hyperfocus he has gone through thousands of hospital records around the world of people being electrocuted. He has narrowed the list slowly crossing off people by things like,
- way too old
- wrong place on body to be electrocuted
- has a soulmark of some kind like words or drawing
- date of electrocution
And finally after narrowing it down to 30 people, he went through each person to see if they had a vigilante in their home neighborhood.
Nada zilch nothing.
Except. Well, one didn't have anything. No social media, no email, no pictures, no adress, except a town name. Amity Park, Illinois.
Tim dug deeper. His detective senses tingling. He can smell government conspiracy bullshit a mile away. As soon as he hits the strange firewall he knows he found something important. Even if the person, he glaces at his notes Danny Fenton, isn't his soul mate, this could be something to tip the league off to, illegal meta experiments maybe?
It took Tim three days to break and ask Oracle for help, it was like the firewall was Alive, rebuilding and shifting around him everything he tried to Crack it.
Even with Barbara's help it took another two days with them working together. Finally they did it, and were immediately overwhelmed and horrified. An entire town wiped from the internet, from maps, from social media. An entire town overrun with ghosts, wepon happy government agents, crazy locals, and... a local teen... superhero.
Phantom. A ghost. Not, exactly what Tim was hoping for. He dug deeper. Danny Fenton, son of the Dr's Madeline and Jack Fenton, with an older sister named Jasmine Fenton.
Danny was electrocuted in his parents lab.
Danny was electrocuted the same day as Tim's near seizure.
Danny was electrocuted on his LEFT hand.
Danny is bullied at school.
And in every picture he can find Danny has a hand pressed to his chest and looks exhausted.
Tim found him. He found his soul mate.
Now he needs to help him. Because he looks like a stiff wind would blow him over and like he hadn't eaten in a few days.
He was going to find him and he was going to get answers. Time thumped his chest and pain radiated from the deep bruise he'd created on his chest. It felt good.
....
May continue this but I'm at work soooo
Okay, so, Brain Dead rejected soulmate AU but Danny is the one who rejected Tim.
Let's say in this world that there are many types of soul bonds.
You've got your standard and fairly common First Words and Skin Art.
Then you've got less common things like Shared Dreams, Colorblind Until You Meet, and Red String.
And then you've got the very rare Telepathic Bond and Empathic Bond.
Finally, there's the ultra rare, one in a million, Shared Pain* soul bonds. It helps that the flip side of this particular bond means Shared Comforts**, but still, it is not the kind of bond people hope for.
Naturally, Fenton luck dictates that this is what Danny (and by extension, his soulmate) gets stuck with.
And at first it's fine. Like, bumps and scrapes happen but it's no big deal. Then the bullying starts and Danny feels a bit guilty that his soulmate has to deal with it by proxy.
But, Danny learns how to minimize damage. And the way Danny can feel his soulmate gentle nursing the pains when he can't, indulging in extra comforts for the both of them, makes Danny think that maybe it's okay.
After all, if it was really to much, Danny's soulmate would have already rejected him.
And when Danny's soulmate starts getting a bit more roughed up when they're 13, naturally Danny returns the favor; never wishing to sever the bond, only wishing he could prevent the pain all together.
Then Danny turns 14.
Then Danny dies. But survives.
He cries that night, his soulmate desperately trying to push comfort through their bond while all Danny can think about is how he shouldn't have gone in that portal. He shouldn't have been so reckless. He should have PROTECTED them.
And to top it all off, suddenly he's not just Dash's personal punching bag. No, there's a whole host of ghostly rogues that like to come bother Danny. And maybe it was still okay when it was just ectopusses or Lunch Lady or Boxy.
But as more and more powerful ghosts come through, as the fights get harder and Danny takes more damage, the guilt over what he's subjecting his soulmate to eats at him.
And after Danny meets Vlad, the first enemy he faces that he really can't beat, he makes the decision. This isn't going to end. These fights, these pains...
Someday he's going to face an enemy that is going to grind him into the dirt. That's going to kill him again, probably slowly and unpleasantly, and Danny already subjected his soulmate to one death, he refuses to put him through another.
So Danny mentally reaches deep inside himself, real hands placing themselves above his heart.
Feeling around for the source of that gentle warmth his soulmate is pushing through their bond.
He finds it, grasping with imaginary hands while his real ones clench the fabric of his shirt.
Feels the way the warmth stutters. The sharp jolt of pain on his elbow as his soulmate probably knocks it when he realizes what Danny is doing.
Danny pays it no mind. He holds the bond between then tightly; tears welling up in his eyes as phantom arms wrap around himself, his soulmate's desperate plea for Danny not to do what he's about to.
Danny yanks, physical hands all but tearing the shirt off his chest as mental ones rip the bond from his and his soulmate's hearts.
The last pain they'll ever share comes crashing into him, the distinct Rejection scar crackling across his chest not unlike the Lichtenburg on his arm.
It hurts, but less than dying had.
Then the pain is gone. Or rather, that pain is gone.
The dull aches from the fight with Plasmius throb and a part Danny finds himself missing the soothing comforts his soulmate had provided him, emptiness filling the space they used to occupy.
But another part of Danny, the part that is more ghost than human, swells with pride knowing he has protected his soulmate from Danny's own inevitable fate.
As Danny inspects Rejection spidering out from his heart, a strange hollow giddiness settles in his stomach. It makes him giggle.
His brain notes that if Dash ever sees this, he'll assume he finally succeeded in making Danny's soulmate reject him.
Danny giggles harder.
Not that Danny will correct him. Or his friends or his sister when they find out for that matter. They worry enough about him as is. They don't need to know just how far Danny is willing to go to protect the people he loves.
He's stifling laughter now, trying not to wake the neighbors.
Sitting alone on the roof of Fentonworks at 3 in the morning, Danny laughs until he sobs, then laughs and sobs until he can't breathe, then laughs and sobs and struggles to breathe until a light blue mist comes gasping past he lips.
His hysterics taper of and he lets the now familiar cold feeling of his ghost form spread across his body, pausing only for a second when he notices the new spiderwebbing across the chest of his hazmat suit, just a shade darker than the rest of the black material.
Oh well. It's not too noticeable and if some sees it he can just pretend it was always there. Just like he's going to pretend the emptiness in his heart was always there. Where it belongs.
~~~
Tim is at the Bat Computer desperately searching for any kind of clue who and where his soulmate is.
Of course, Tim had searched before, been searching basically since grade school when it became clear his soulmate was dealing with either bullying or an abusive home.
But Tim's efforts had tripled lately. Ever since that fateful day 4 months ago when he'd practically had a seizure in the middle of family dinner.
It had felt like he was dying, the echos of electric shocks up his arm and into his heart coming through his soul bonds. Followed soon after by the sense of something terrifying and foreign opening up in his chest and forcing its way into every molecule of his body.
Tim is pretty sure he screamed.
It was several minutes before the sensations ended and a strange coldness filled his being. For a minute, Tim was terrified his soulmate had died, until the cold retreated to a place just beside his heart and phantom hands could be felt trying to comfort and soothe.
At the time, Tim thought that would be that. Some kind of terrible accident. A story his soulmate would tell him when they finally found each other.
But that wasn't that.
It started with that strange coldness never leaving the space beside his heart. Then sometimes the coldness would spread, filling his whole body for brief periods of time. Then those periods of time started to come with some kind of pain. A scrape, a bruise, sore muscles.
The kind of injuries Tim got on patrol as Robin.
Which was something he'd not been allowed to do near as much since the aftermath of that dinner when Bruce had learned what kind soul bond Tim had.
"Tim, you can't keep throwing yourself into the line of fire. It's bad enough when you get hurt, but for your soulmate to have to suffer too?"
Stupid Bruce and his stupid rules. Tim and his soulmate had been fine before, thank you very much. And it wasn't Robin that got struck by lightning or something. Tim really isn't sure what kind of accident would result in the things he had felt that night, but electrocution is at least part of it.
But since then, Tim's soulmate had been getting more and more injuries at any and all hours of the day. If Tim had been worried before distressed now. Something had happened and now Tim's soulmate who was already dealing with something before now seemed to be in constant danger. Tim needs to find them, needs to help them, make them safe.
He doesn't look, doesn't take his eyes off the news articles on the screen as a presence appears behind him. No 2 presences. And the elevator dings bringing a third. But Tim keeps scanning articles, looking for some clue about a kid getting electrocuted and a town gaining a young vigilante shortly after.
A heavy hand lands on his shoulder, gravelly voice speaking in gentle tones. "It's almost 4am son." Tim doesn't respond. Bruce sighs and spins the chair around. Dick and Alfred are both there looking concerned and stern respectively. "It's bed time."
"My soulmate is in trouble. They're not safe. I need to find them. And you're worried about my bed time?"
"You need some sleep, Master Tim. You won't know you've found anything if you're to tired to see straight." Bruce nods and Dick puts on his best big brother face.
"Get some rest, Tim. We can keep looking later."
Tim opens his mouth to argue, but pauses at the strange tugging sensation in his heart. He briefly wonders what trouble his soulmate is in now before he realizes what the almost feeling of hands on his soul bond means.
He gasps and jerks in the chair, knocking his elbow on the arm rest and the warm blanket he'd cocooned himself in to send comfort back to his soulmate off his shoulders.
Even Alfred's expression turns concerned when Tim wraps his arms around himself, trying to convey along the soul bond his plea for his soul mate not to do this.
"Tim?" Tim isn't sure which family member speaks. Can't focus on it as his soulmate yanks on the bond, ripping it and the strange comfortable coldness out.
Tim cries out, three sets of hands immediately moving in to comfort him. Sight and sound turn to static as Rejection burns across his chest not unlike the electrocution had crawled up his arm four months ago.
Then the pain vanishes.
And Tim looks up at Bruce, knows he's got tears rolling down his face, searching pitifully for a father's comfort.
"They Rejected me."
Bruce startles, but quickly stoops down to wrap Tim in a hug and Dick lays a comforting hand on Tim's head and Alfred retreats probably to make something comforting and Tim cries at the emptiness where the bond should be and the now too warm spot beside his heart.
And yet, deep in his mind where gears are still turning, Tim resolves to still find his soulmate, even without the bond, if only to ask them why.
.
This was supposed to be a prompt, maybe a premise, but I got carried away.
So now y'all can have this piece of pain I have no intention of continuing. Enjoy!
And since I don't plan on continuing, if some else wants to run with it, have at and have fun!
*Shared Pain in this AU just means soulmates feel the pain, not that they recieve the injuries. So if a soulmate breaks an arm, the other will feel the break, but their arm will be physically fine.
**Shared Comforts meaning that soulmates also share good feelings. So if one person is all wrapped up comfy cozy in a nice thick blanket, the other also feels that warmth. But like with the pain, it's a phantom feeling. Won't keep the soulmate not bundled up from hypothermia.
In Case of Emergency
Chapter 14: The Epilogue (For Now)
Previous | Sequel | AO3 | FFN
Chapter summary: This is not a resolution. This is a desperate bid for time.
Chapter word count: 1043
—
The Fentons arrive at the hospital just as William is leaving. It's four o'clock. The sky is grey, and the air is muggy. Finally, the predicted rainstorm is close to breaking. William pauses at his car, watching the Fenton's RV peel into the parking lot. It dings a few vehicles on the way in. Jack must be driving. Between Jack and Maddie, he is the faster driver, even if his driving is reckless. Somedays, William thinks the city ought to put out warnings if anyone knows Jack Fenton will be on the road. Reckless endangerment aside, if you need to get somewhere quick in an emergency, Jack is who you want at the wheel.
William winces with sympathy for the owners of the damaged cars but feels nothing for the Fentons. The RV screeches to a halt, the passenger door flying open before it has even stopped all the way. Maddie runs out. Jack follows her a moment later. They don't even lock the RV in their haste.
Seven hours. That is how long it has been since the school secretary first called the Fentons. Seven whole hours. They must have been busy with something important.
No, William doesn't feel sorry for them. They should have answered the phone.
He gets into his car, slamming the door closed a little harder than necessary. In the peace and quiet, William tips his head back and sighs. The bandage on his forehead is scratchy. He ended up needing a single stitch. Dr. Alejo concluded that he was stunned rather than knocked unconscious. He has no signs of concussion, but he will have a nasty bump for a few days. He was cleared to go home a mere twenty minutes after getting injured.
The Guys in White kept him for an additional hour and a half. They asked him the same questions over and over.
What happened when he was alone with Danny? We talked. I was comforting my favourite student. He has been through an emotional ordeal, you know, and needed someone to lean on. His family hasn't arrived yet. We only talked.
Did he say anything strange? No. He kept asking me when he could go home.
Did you see him when he attacked you? My back was turned.
Where did he go? I don't know.
Did he believe that was really Danny Fenton? I don't know.
William drags a hand down his face. What a day this has been. He might have to call out of work tomorrow and take a mental health day. After everything that has happened, he could use a break. He had promised Danny that everything would be okay, but he doesn't know how to keep that promise, especially not now.
With a sigh, William starts his car. "Time to go home."
The first raindrops fall as he pulls out of the parking lot. Within minutes, the oppressive humidity of the day turns to a bone-deep chill that William feels even within the safety of his car. He turns the heat up, but it doesn't help. Goosebumps raise along his arms and shivers plague him the rest of the way home. Every once in a while, he glances toward the passenger seat. The drive takes longer than it should, thanks to the evening rush. He ends up stopped at every light, boxed in by cars on either side. Even once he hits the highway, his car is surrounded. Despite the cold, William sweats every time he catches someone staring into his car. They are nothing more than bored passengers with idle stares, but his stomach twists into a tighter knot every time he notices them. It isn't until he's home, safely pulled into his garage, that he feels some form of relief.
The cold follows him inside.
William sets to work immediately, going to every window in the house and pulling the blinds shut. He starts at the back of the house with his office and moves on from there, making sure not even a sliver of light remains. From any angle, it's impossible to see outside. Most importantly, that means no one outside can see in. Just as he is debating how to cover the front door window, a car pulls into his driveway. He watches in silence, waiting for the figure inside the car to get out.
Dr. Alejo runs up the path to the front door. William opens it before she can reach for the doorbell and welcomes her inside. Her clothes and hair are soaked from the rain. She looks like a drowned kitten. Sounds like one, too, as she makes noises of frustration and wrings out her hair on William's front carpet.
"Please, make yourself at home," William says.
"Sorry," Dr. Alejo responds flatly. Leaning onto her toes, she peers around William's shoulder and scans the hall.
"This way." William leads her to his office. The air gets colder as they approach. He pushes open the door and motions for Dr. Alejo to go in first.
Danny waits for them on the couch. Dark bags rest under his eyes. They look like bruises against his pale skin. William isn't surprised. He did have to stay invisible for three hours, after all.
"Did it work?" he asks.
Dr. Alejo joins him on the couch, flopping onto the empty seat. Her wet clothes make the leather squeak. "Congratulations, you're possessed."
William is not naïve enough to say that Danny relaxes at those words, but there's a visible shift. He sinks into the couch and lets out a slow, controlled breath. There is still an immense amount of pressure weighing down on him—on all of them—but some of that burden has now lifted.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hit you so hard," Danny says.
William shrugs. "I'm alright. It helped sell the bit." He sits down on Danny's other side. The couch isn't quite big enough for three people to sit comfortably, but no complaints arise.
Danny leans over and rests his head on William's shoulder. "Now what?"
An excellent question. One that none of them has an answer to. William meets Dr. Alejo's gaze over Danny's head. She shrugs back at him. No matter. They will come up with an answer eventually. For now, everyone thinks Danny Fenton is missing. They have all the time they need.
Ooooh okay so I see this going two ways.
Option 1:
Clark, during his first few weeks pre-Superman, had had a once night stand with Maddie and Jack. Soon after Maddie had realised she was pregnant but both she and Jack didn't much care to figure out who the child's father was. It didn't really matter to them either way. Lo and behold none of the Fentons realised that Danny wasn't Jack's biological son.
So Danny upon getting (emotionally) adopted by Martha complains how he already has a dad and how he can regularly kool aid man his way through walls and how his parents regularly do scientific research and invent stuff. But because of reasons he can't say he can't go back.....Martha for her part just sighs at Clark's handling of having a child (did he even know? Was the kool aid man him or someone else?) and welcomes him in. She promises to get everything sorted out for him as soon as her son is back from his trip.
Clark comes back from his deep space mission and hearing an extra heartbeat floats into the barn attic where an extra pair of his clothes is always stashed and 'comes' home. Cue misunderstandings (Clark sticking to his "I don't think I have kids! I've always been careful! I promise Ma!" guns and Danny sticking to his "I swear! I'm telling you this guy isn't my dad! He looks like him sort of but he's not my dad!") Martha during her scheduled phone catch up with Alfred had mentioned the new kid so Bruce isn't too far behind Clark. (He was threatened by Alfred and no one crosses that man if they can help it. After all only a fool would cross the person who single-handedly runs the manor and ensures that everyone's complicated lives don't end up falling apart.)
He does a rapid blood paternity test which reveals that Danny is in fact Clark's child. The revelation has dramatic fallout for everyone. (Clark for his part goes beet red at having to explain to his mother that he once had a threesome with a married couple. He is then also forced to sit through the birds and bees talk with her. Danny needs to come to terms with the fact that his parents had a threesome which resulted in him. That Jack isn't in fact his father. Depending on a good or bad reveal this might add more to his fallout)
Option 2:
Danny after a reveal gone bad was on the run from the Drs. Fenton and GiW. Jazz was too closely monitored by both her parents and the GiW at her college in Gotham to be much help. Ellie was hiding out travelling internationally mainly because Danny hasn't told her yet how bad it's gotten.
During his run he comes across a lab with clones being grown and remembering Ellie he razes the place. There's only one viable clone he finds who's about 6-7 years old. Danny being a kind and soft hearted person cannot leave the kid behind and basically adopts him. So they go around and stick together. Somewhere along the line they cross into Kansas and Danny has them sticking to the outskirts of towns. (it helps that his baby brother is learning to fly too!)
Then they're spotted by Martha while Danny was trying to grab some of the apples from the top of the tree. She wouldn't have noticed if she wasn't used to looking over whenever something floated in her peripheral vision what with Clark having trouble when he was younger. She'd immediately taken the kids in when she saw the similarity between them and Clark. And both flying? Well. Looks like her son needed another talk. Obviously the first one hadn't taken.
Danny suspicious of her doesn't reveal much, but something about her is very calming and yells safeSafeSafeSAFE to him. Time goes on and he thinks that staying here won't be so bad if all they have to do is simple chores in exchange for food and board. Both the boys had looked at each other when Martha asked for names. Danny was so used to calling his brother kiddo that it'd slipped his mind. Whoops?
They sit down with a baby names book and find one that the kid likes. So Danny and Conner spend weeks at the Kent farm and slowly she pulls out the bare bones of the story from them. (they're brothers. Danny has another sibling who's grown from a tube so it's not that strange for him. He's hiding from his parents because they don't like what he became. They don't understand.)
Clark comes back to earth a few weeks after that conversation. The lecture he gets from Martha ("Clark Joseph Kent. I thought I raised you better than this. How could you have a child and leave it to fend for themself?" "Ma? What are you...? Who is that?" "You apparently had a child. A child who's powers kicked in and had to go on the run with his brother as a result. Do you have any idea how hard that must've been?")
Clark is overjoyed at no longer being the last Kryptonian but is absolutely confused because he's never had a child to his knowledge. (insert weird Kryptonian biology and how they're only sexually aroused when they're emotionally invested in their partner) he remembers the whole bird and bees talk.
So he offers to call his friend who can help settle the misunderstanding. (He's happy to have more family. It doesn't matter if they're his kids or siblings. Family is family.) Danny is suspicious and asks immediately who this friend is and how he'll prove it. Clark says it's a friend he knows through his work and he's really good with tests. Danny immediately grabs Conner and turns them both intangible. He says they won't be staying if there's medical tests involved. Clark waves his hands around and says that no the guy is a detective and that's why he knows some basic tests. It's just a few drops of blood and he'll go first of they prefer it.
Danny cautiously makes them tangible again and nods. Conner after spending so much time with Danny sticks to him like a burr. Clark calls Bruce on speakerphone and explains that he might not be the last but they need to do a blood test to confirm. Would he mind helping out?
Robin!Jason in the background can be heard snickering and saying how nice an opportunity this is and how Penny-one was just saying they needed a vacation. Danny and Conner both relax a little on hearing the kid so Clark and Martha sweeten the deal by inviting them down for the weekend and promises of pie.
So Bruce promises to show up the next day, Jay in tow and a paternity blood test kit. "Uh..Bruce. you might need to bring two." Batman's silence (because at that moment he was Batman more than Bruce) was drowned out by Jason's whistle and sniggering, the comment about "fast work" barely completed before Bruce grunted and disconnected.
The next day, Jason and Bruce come in and as promised, Clark goes first. They do a cheek swab and Bruce puts his sample in one side of a machine. Jason who'd sidled up the kids had been explaining what was happening and how it doesn't even feel like much of anything with a check swab. It might tickle a bit if you're really sensitive but that's it. Conner perks up at that and goes first. Danny is still uncertain but he knows enough that cheek swabs won't hurt.
So once the sample is collected, he pulls Conner back to his side and they wait. The test results are......well, chaos is a mild word. Clark pretty much needs to sit down.
Danny watches the reactions of the adults closely but doesn't see much beyond surprise and shock. So after some time passes where Clark is clearly dumbfounded and barely processing anything, he shakes his head at a swab. "He's my brother even if I found him in a lab. It doesn't matter who the parents are - we're sticking together."
Clark has questions and Bruce promises to investigate. He gets the city where Danny found Conner and starts typing away on his laptop. Martha is overjoyed but is absolutely giving Clark a refresher on the birds and bees.
Martha Kent was a smart woman. A strong woman.
She had raised Superman afterall. More importantly she had raised a kind good man. A responsible one.
Maybe not so responsible, or maybe she should have done the birds and bees talk instead of Jonathan.
Cause what else is she supposed to think when she comes across a small boy that looks alot like her Clark and can float.
Or Ma kent comes across a young Danny who floats to grab something on a high shelf. Naturally, this means her son has a child he doesn't know about. (What a time for Clark to be off planet)
( alot of miscommunication and highjinks leads to everyone thinking Clark Fathered a child accidentally)
