Terry Hall (1959-2022)
Terry, the singer of the seminal 2-Tone band The Specials as well as a member of the Fun Boy Three and the Colourfield, has sadly passed away (this past week).
His dour lyrical prose brought light into the lives of those who felt the same way as he did and he has left us far too young.
RIP legend.

Lyrics:
I guess I kind of sort of know
I ought to be thinking of you
But a friendship′s built on trust
And that's something you never do
Well who knows - maybe tomorrow
We can share each other′s sorrow
And compare our graveside manner
As we wave our lonely banners
If you ever think of me
I'll be thinking of you
If you decide to change your views
I'm thinking of you
You can walk away from loneliness
Anytime you choose
And you′re the sort of person
That hasn′t anything to lose
But who cares - maybe tomorrow
You can lead and I could follow
So walk where angels fear to tread
For everything you've ever wanted
And if you ever think of me
I′ll be thinking of you
If you can spare an hour or two
You'll know what to do
I could be the one thing there
In your hour of need
So if you decide to change your views
I′m thinking of you
Let's roll the dice
In a fools paradise
Share moonlit nights
Breathing nothing but lies
Let′s open our eyes…
We should take a bus
To somewhere else to something new
Thank God we're alive
And bite off more than we can chew
Do the things that just don't matter
Laugh while others look in anger
Stumble over four leaf clovers
And say goodbye to lonely banners
Songwriter:
If you ever think of me
I′ll be thinking of you
Through thick and thin
I bear it and grin and never give in
I could be the one thing left
In your hour of need
So if you decide to change your views
I′m thinking of you
Thinking of you
Thinking of you
Thinking of you

I am so, so much more blocked up than I think I’ve been acknowledging. I don’t know how to fix it. The associated guilt and frustration doesn’t help. And it’s a real bummer to struggle so hard to create when so much of my self worth comes from that cycle of creativity. I can attempt to analyze it. But what I’ve found with other fun Brain Problems™, is that actually, it is possible to analyze too much?? So maybe… I just do it? I dunno. Anyway, here’s Terry in progress. 🖤

RIP, Terry Hall.
I really wanted for her to touch her knees
I really wanted to share forgotten dreams
Go through the motions of loving from a far
And feel as if i'm reaching for the stars
But each drop of hopelessness amounts
To what could be a raging sea
It could be spring time i'd meet her at the gates
If beauty ever comes to those who wait
Castles in the air
If only they were there
Just like a beatnik love affair
Those castles in the air
So let me look into the windows of your soul
Let me make the most of what i'll never know
We'll eat forbidden fruits and sing our favourite songs
And never tell each other we're wrong
Each drop of tenderness you give
Would be another reason why i'd want to live
Would be another chance to sit beneath the stars
And whisper to each other in the dark
Castles in the air
If only they were there
We'd be so free and unaware
Watching castles in the air
Why should a lonely person care
What could a lonely person share
A broken heart is much too hard to remend
Cause beauty never comes to those who wait
Romance is a word
That should be seen but never heard
I don't even know your name
But castles in the air
We were almost there
We almost shared
Castles in the air

We never talked
We never kissed
We never loved but we thought we did
So I walked away and I called it quits
What the eyes don't see, you know the heart won't miss.
