i recreated the Big Duck (1931)! 🦆
Tumblr media
this building was made for a duck farm in New York, so I figured it would be perfect for my chicken farm lol
this duck is legit my favorite building of all time, so it made me very happy to be able to build this in minecraft

My partner and I visited The Big Duck on our 18-year anniversary today because we are so ducking in love!🦆💖 The Big Duck was built in 1931 and first used to sell ducks + duck eggs.🥚

These buildings are incredible! 🤩😍💖 I actually live near the namesake of duck architecture: The Big Duck of Long Island! 🦆🤍

Novelty architecture: a type of building in which structures are designed as familiar shapes such as characters, animals, food, clothing items or household objects. Each one is usually kitschy, gaudy, and eye-catching. This style is also known as ‘mimetic,’ ‘programmatic’ or 'duck' architecture.
Leamington, Ontario's big tomato, circa 1961, is a classic example of this type of building. While it served as a tourist information booth for six decades, water damage and mold forced it to close in 2019. For 5 years, it sat deteriorating. In 2024, the Leamington council approved a restoration project, stating that the tomato is “representation of the area’s rich history and culture." The tomato's days are not over yet.
I've included a few more then + now views of novelty architecture: An owl cafe in New Mexico, a sombrero restaurant in South Carolina, a shoe house in Pennsylvania, an elephant in New Jersey, a big orange in Florida and an airplane-gas-station in Tennessee. Each of these buildings are alive, well and open for business. Most, if not all, have had ongoing restoration efforts and have all been lovingly cared for over the years.

The Big Duck - Focus
Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and…

Something abt Willow defying the narrative itself to bring Buffy back. It’s so selfish, and thoughtless, and also the ultimate act of devotion.
She defies the laws of nature, she rips apart the fabric of reality, but she also defies the show itself. Buffy’s ending was always going to be a tragedy, she was always going to die young. Everyone knows this: Buffy, Giles, the showrunners, the audience. And that almost was the ending! The show was supposed to end in season 5, and obv external reasons led to it being continued, but in universe it’s willow forcibly continuing the story.
Willow was the only one who refused to accept that Buffy dying young was her ending. She defies the damn narrative to bring Buffy home bc that is her best friend!!! And yes it’s also abt her own power and showing that she can, but it’s also abt Buffy spending five seasons desperate to be more than just the slayer, and that Willow’s greatest kindness is refusing to let her die the way the narrative wants. Willow refuses to let Buffy suffer the destiny she’s tried to shirk from the beginning!! It’s abt Willow being physically unable to imagine a life without Buffy; a story without her best friend. They make me want to eat rocks.

Bro didn't know what true anxiety was until now-
Thought his wife leaving him was rough?
Nah.
The Great Duck of Chile.
Now THAT'S a true trauma inducer.
(He also totally started the hashtag #banboats after this happened)
