the pennant isn't cut off irl i just didn't take the best photo
not pictured: dvds, schleich greedy my beloved (he was a gift ^_^), jokey birthday mug, greedy mug, magic talk village and smurfette's house, a bunch of 80s plushies, the random house releases of king smurf, astrosmurf, romeo and smurfette, the three issues of the smurfs marvel comics, the baby board game, + other stuff i can cover a different day LOL
my main focus was to get merch with the designs and names used in the (80s) show, ie. handy in white overalls/the visor or greedy (even the times when they call him baker but still use the same design)
as for merch i still want: the hardees glasses (preferably greedy, handy, and clumsy), smurfs magic talk papa's lab or at least the papa and clumsy figures, the schleich scruple and handy, the ceramic greedy figure from 1983, the other smurfberry crunch posters, the smurfs n ice capades pennant (way more characters on it, fun design), brown azrael plush, etc.

i feel like if the astrosmurf episode was made today they would have made dreamy find out what was really going on and made it about being honest and stuff. when the moral of the 80s astrosmurf episode was "sometimes you have to drug your friend and lie to them to make them happy" and i think that's beautiful

Learned a lot I didn’t know about The Smurfs before, including just how old they are.  I always knew there were comics, but the first Smurfs cartoon apparently came out in 1961 (and compiled into a movie in 1965).  It appears to be semi-lost media, however.
Also learned that The Smurf were actually a spin off.  Johan and Peewit, who I just thought were side characters, was the original franchise.  And their comics started way back in 1947.

im watching the astrosmurf and idk why its so funny to me but... the bit where its like “tell me clumsy, where were you when brains were handed out?” “uh gee, i dunno, maybe i was with you, huh, brainy?” is called back to later in the episode... “an’ look at ‘im! he really thinks he’s on another planet! (laughter) yup! boy, is he dumb! i wonder where he was when the beans were handed out! (more laughter)” “not beans, clumsy, brains!” “oh, yeah! well that’s what i meant! bean brain! yup, yup.” and its so... clumsy i love you never change

Needed a doodle break from linearting 60+ frames for an upcoming animatic
The Astrosmurf is just about watchable even though the early season 1 out of pitch voices are superrr grating but I digress, the actual premise is really adorable - the fact the village did all that for Dreamy? Just cause he wanted a Smurfday wish to come true? Ugh, friendship goals. I think Dreamy’s Pen Pals is also cute (and easier to listen to) so I did a back-to-back whilst sketching XD

. Stretch NEIL Armstrong ???? . Stretch Armstrong 1976-1980 could be stretched from its original size of about 15 in (0.38 m) to 4 to 5 ft (1.2 to 1.5 m) . in 1977, Kenner followed up with Stretch Monster, an enemy for our elastic hero. . corn syrup for fake blood in “The most famous recipe for stage blood, however, comes from Dick Smith, a Hollywood makeup artist” used in “The Exorcist” . i guess golden syrup is thicker & used throughout the 60s and the 70s. used in Fake movie blood became known as "Kensington Gore," made by a retired British pharmacist, John Tynegate Tynegate's formula. . before that, chocolate syrup used in “Psycho” (black & white” . #StretchArmstrong #NeilArmstrong #StretchMonster . side note. AstroSmurf was 1 of about 10 Smurfs (Smurves?) that my brother got from The Lemon Tree store. these Smurfs had no packaging, info or anything. so he named the astronaut smurf Neil. . . “Stretch came to market before Star Wars, He-Man, G.I. Joe, and other brands shrunk characters down to just a few inches to make their vehicles more affordable. Taken to his literal length, he may have been the largest action figure ever produced. By tugging on his arms, legs, and torso, the toy could expand to a Reed Richards-esque 4 feet long. Similar-sized toys may have had cloth outfits and cool accessories, but kids couldn't tie them into literal knots. The idea for a stretchable toy was hatched at Kenner in 1974 by design director Jesse Horowitz” . . . . . . . . https://www.instagram.com/p/CTcsehmFRKW/?utm_medium=tumblr
