Exo are a NYC band and this release was originally released last year by Roachleg Records. Punk savant label La Vida Es Un Mus Discos is again bringing us unique punk/post-punk. The same label that exposed me to The Astronauts also introduced me to Taqbir.

Album opener "Piano Frowning" and album closer "Mermaid Legend" are nothing like what's between. Both of those songs sound closer to Cindy Lee than the all-out punk assault of songs like "Ladybug" and "Mantis". "Butterfly" and "Fig Wasp" remind me of Grass Widow.

In 1985, Raimund Brinkmann was the first American to walk on the moon where Earth now has a space station built on. Earth developed a technique of turning inorganic substances into food. While terraforming the Gobi Desert an alien artifact was discovered. From this artifact and other investigations it was determined that it was a spaceship from Venus and not an asteroid that caused the explosion in Tunguska in 1908. A spaceship that was built for a trip to Mars was now launched for Venus with an international team including Brinkmann and one woman. Besides the human crew there was also Omega, a rover type robot that could speak. The crew was put into artificial sleep for 30 hours to prepare for their flight. Halfway on their trip they discovered that the first ship from Venus was meant as an invasion ship. (“First Spaceship on Venus", Flm)

The Astronauts (UK) must have been something back in their original day. While I think of them as C86 style pop, they are also described as hippy and punk. Look at their group picture on Bandcamp. And, I first found out about The Astronauts from the reissue of "It's All Done By Mirrors" on uber-punk label La Vida Es Un Mus.

Now comes "LP" the last known work from founding member Mark Astronaut (Wilkins). It too is being released by another British punk label, Grow Your Own Records. And while this is newer work from The Astronauts it still retains the pop sensibilities of their earlier releases which I'd compared to The Kinks, and The Dentists (among others).
