Since our 50s AU doesn‘t really have pokemon but the submas are characterised so much by their creatures, I thought I‘d try giving them the irl equivalent of their pokemon.
Ingo would be super goth while Emmet just walks around with a parrot on his shoulder and a spider under his hat

*pico8 start up noise*
tower of archeos 🔗 is a suuuper old pico8 cart but its a very solid little panel de pon / roguelike sort of mashup, & i always find myself going back to it now & then over the years. recently i've been on one such kick & actually managed to beat nightmare mode! so here's a (non-reffed so somewhat inaccurate) little collection of monsters & treasures to celebrate 👍

btw the little aliens head/skull is a piece of llama skull. these little creachures are so not new they already did studies on this bc they were found some time ago. the imho truly weird thing abt them is nobodys super sure if they were made in modern times or were a ceremonial doll type of thing made hundreds of years ago lol. anyway read up its kinda cool. the source for the alien debacle is a sketchy archeologist and gaia.com so thats kind of. very likely fake. but theyre still mysterious little thangs...
#m#the archeo discussion on this has potential tho. were the nazca making little alien dolls to play with i wonder.#they did <3 trophy heads lol

Hi!
Just wondering if you had any information about active Republic naval and military academies like in any time in the prequel movies' era. I am writing a fic and I would like to know if you had a list of them on which planets because I really would not like to create an academy is there are already ones existing.
Please and thank you!
Sure thing! Didn’t have time to check out all possible sources and sadly, so far it seems the majority of mentioned academies either refer to unspecified places or those from the Empire Era who could easily exist before Palpatine took over, but could also be freshly established institutions for the needs of the new regime. But worry not, I found some data about widely understood military Academies that operated during Prequel Movies Era:
[The very best] Naval Academy on Coruscant
Side note: Based on Admiral Ozzel's Fact Files entry from issue #04. Ozzel served during the Clone Wars in a rank of Captain in the Grand Army of Republic [TCW: In the service of Republic], so he needed to end the school before or just during the war and the Academy was later renamed as Imperial Navy Academy. Additionally, the same source mentioned Ozzel taught at this Naval Academy the naval history and languages.
Raithal Academy
Source: The New Essential Guide to Characters
Source: The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia
Brionelle Memorial Military Academy
place: Hanna City, the capital city of planet Chandrila.
Source: The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia
Source: Coruscant and the Core Worlds
Prefsbelt, Carida, Corulag, Anaxes
(The three first Academies + mentioned before Raithal are better known as Imperial schools have "deep roots in the Republic Military'' so logically thinking those should operate during Prequel timeline. Additionally Caridan Military Academy was quite often mentioned in The New Essential Guide to characters, although at the time of publication, the sourcebook usually meant Imperial Academy from what I gathered).
Source: The Essential Guide to Warfare
Source: The Essential Guide to Warfare

Source: The Essential Guide to Warfare
Some more general informations (The Old Republic Academy, The universities of Garos, Alderaan, Sanbra and Byblos)
Not specifically military schools but prestigious institutions offering a wide range of courses that could include military education.
Source: From Galactic Education - Hard Lessons [Fact Files 136]
Hope it helps but if you need more information, lemme know, I will see what I can find more :)

Treasure Hunt Movie Review: Mr. Car and the Knights Templar
Greetings! I thought we’d try something a little different as I cook up the next set of articles.
Mr. Car and the Knights Templar is a new Polish treasure hunt movie from Netflix. Based on the book of the same name,it follows a swashbuckling art historian on a quest to uncover the legendary treasure of the Templar Knights.
While I wouldn’t call the film “good,” I would absolutely call it fascinating. Sometimes there’s nothing like another culture taking a beloved genre or concept and reflecting it back at you. The familiar has a way of becoming new.
This movie is every flavor of the treasure hunt genre all rolled into one. Our hero is Tomasz, or as he becomes nicknamed part way through the film, Mr. Car, is equal parts Indiana Jones, Robert Langdon, James Bond, and Ben Gates.
He works on behalf of a powerful museum, a la Indy, he’s given serious covert assignments by his own M, and there’s a similar spiritual/religious twist to the treasure, as in The DaVinci Code. And off course he’s assisted (despite his protests) by his own personal band of Goonies.
However, it’s unfair to say this film rips of those other notable entries. The book, Pan Samochodzik i Templariusze by Nienacki Zbigniew, was first published in 1966, predating all the aforementioned stories except James Bond. However, I can’t say how closely this movie follows the books (which have something of a cult status in Poland, as I understand it) or how those more recent franchises might have influence this adaptation.
This film is just…it’s everything. Whatever element of the treasure hunt genre you’re looking for, you’ll find it here. Ridiculously over-the-top villains? Check. Tournament arc? Got it. Quirky clues and weirder solvers? Yes ma’am. Tomasz even has an amphibious car, for all your gadget wizard/tricked out car genre needs. (Hence the nickname.)
The inclusion that took me most by surprise is the subplot right out of Moonrise Kingdom that gets the Goonies involved in the hunt. Yes, Moonrise Kingdom, the Wes Anderson coming-of-age dramedy about a runaway boy scout. Like I said, this movies has everything.
Without spoilers, I found the villain—as Zorro-alike named Adios—to be both the weakest part of the film narratively and just…yikes. Like, I would not be okay with this character in an American movie, but Poland has a much different history with Mexico so…that is what it is I guess.
And poor Karen. She gets the short end of the stick every time.
The kids I found charming, especially main Goony Eagle Eyes and his relationship with Tomasz as a reluctant role model. (I'm a sucker for that trope.) Honestly, I would have been fine if the story was just about the kids and their accidental chaperone, a journalist who seems to be the only person in the world not woo’d by Tomasz (yet).
Overall, I can’t say I enjoyed the movie, but I did enjoy looking at the treasure hunt genre through a new lens, considering what tropes make up a treasure quest, and how the different “flavors” of the genre vary from one another (and how they maybe should not all be smushed into one movie).
Probably the most startling part of the experience was realizing that this haphazard mishmash of a narrative is probably how my friends see National Treasure 😅. Oh dear.
My rating:
1.5/5 Declarations of Independence 📜📜

Yet another Eternal OC. This is no one mentioned explicitly in the game. I just had fun designing another Eternal Era dweller in their prime. Read more for the design process.
Also I think I need to make a post about my Eternal biology headcannons, since it's only briefly mentioned in the Draconic Chronicle
Initial idea looked a bit too much like star wars character so had to be tweaked a little. I've set on the theme here though - a masked Eternal hiding her disturbing real face
The mask is naturally inspired by Aetera's - I always wondered whether it was a fashion choice, punishment, or whether she had something to hide underneath. The third possibility won here.
Fane was getting bullied by other Eternals even before becoming a traitor. I wonder why. (I need to make a post about the Eternal society too)

Not the same type of car ride, obviously, but given how much of our time was spent on the road, travelling and going everywhere and doing everything together, there is a pleasing sort of symmetry about this.
His skull preservation took well over a year, but it was completely worth the wait -- welcome home, precious ♡
More photos/details under the cut.
I knew that his big goofy head was primarily flesh padding and fur but... it's so much tinier than I expected... it's so delicate. so cute. T_T
And now my death shrine is complete (the shelf on the right is his; the shelf on the left is Puff's; Zuzu's is out in the living room, because that's where she always was). It's... not what I had originally planned for, when I put these shelves up -- they were both alive and well at the time -- but I adore the aesthetic of memento mori, even though I don't believe in absolutely anything, so I wasn't going to pass up my free access to bones and ashes, fur clippings and vials and ink prints. I am very pleased with the result! I do still need to find some rose thorns and dried fern or something to bulk up that planter, and still looking for art prints I like for the walls
#they only called last night to let me know he was ready#i showed up this morning to pick him up lmao#he's got that mild soapy scent that bones have; i haven't been around bones since my last archeo dig a decade ago#i'd forgotten how much i enjoy it#withoutwords#tw: pet death
