Who is....Tom Cassidy | Black Tom Cassidy? - A Reading Guide
Tom Cassidy is an X-Men affiliated mutant from Marvel comics first introduced in 1976. He is the cousin of Sean Cassidy (Banshee) and a father-figure to Theresa Cassidy (Siryn/Banshee). Tom is heavily associated with Cain Marko (Juggernaut), who he met in prison. Tom's powers are directly tied to the land, and are heavily related to bio-kinesis. During the Krakoan era, Tom fused with the mutant island, Krakoa, which caused him a great deal of distress and drastically changed how he interacts with the world around him.

Read Date: January 08, 2022 Cover Date: November 1966 ● Writer: Stan Lee ● Penciler: John Romita ◦ Don Heck ● Inker: Mikey Demeo ● Colorist: {uncredited} ● Letterer: Artie Simek ● Editor: Stan Lee ●
**HERE BE SPOILERS: Skip ahead to the fan art/podcast to avoid spoilers
Reactions As I Read: ● (pg 2) the Avengers are discussing if they want Spider-Man among their ranks. ● Hmm, I'm not a fan of Hawkeye's costume. And who is that big dude? ● YUS, get Daredevil!! ● who IS that huge guy? Is that Ant Man? ● The Wasp is thirsting after DD ● DD highly recommends Spidey for membership in the Avengers ● The Avengers vote to test Spidey ● Goliath! That's the big dude. Makes sense but I've never heard of him… ● (pg 4) Now they're off to find Spidey ● Thor found him first ● (pg 6) Spidey isn't sure he wants to be an Avenger and needs to think on it ● Peter makes good points on the pros and cons of becoming an Avenger ● (pg 10) Spider-Man, keep your temper in check, dude ● (pg 11) omg… this is a disaster
● you had that coming, Spider-Man ● (pg 12) they'd be crazy to vote him in ● he's gotta find the Hulk and bring him back to the Avengers
● Bruce Banner! ● Spider-Man feels sorry for him and let's him go, then tells the Avengers he couldn't find him ● see, if they just communicated with each other, this all could have been straightened out. ● 👏👏👏
Synopsis: The Avengers have assembled and are trying to determine whether or not to invite Spider-Man into their esteemed ranks. After much debate and confusion, they decide to invite Daredevil to get more information. He shows up and gives strong praise in Spider-Man having seen him fight against The Ringmaster. After his endorsement, the Avengers unanimously vote to test Spider-Man, and if he passes, to accept him. Each Avenger takes off to find Spider-Man. Thor is the first to find him, and gives him 24 hours to show to the Avengers headquarters. Pete wrestles with the idea of being on a team in the public eye versus being self-employed and calling the shots himself.
Finally, he decides to take a chance and meet the Avengers. As he arrives, the Avengers are bogged down as to what test they should give Spider-Man. Iron Man tells him to get out of the way as they figure out what they want to do. Spider-Man takes great offense and figures that riling him up is the test so Spider-Man begins to fight the Avengers. Instead, they decide to have Spider-Man bring Hulk to them but Spider-Man leaves before they can explain why. As he stops at The Daily Bugle for refreshment, Frederick Foswell tells J. Jonah Jameson that the Hulk has been spotted at a gamma ray research center. While fighting the Hulk, he punches and a gamma ray explodes temporarily turning him back into Bruce Banner.
Spider-Man tries to explain his purpose there, but ends up wondering why the Avengers want a sick man, not an evil villain. He lets Hulk go and tells the Avengers he couldn’t be found. The Avengers didn’t tell Spider-Man that they wanted to help him, but Spider-Man feared he would lead Hulk to his doom. Pete, conflicted by the result, tries to tell himself it’s for the best.

THE FOGGY APPEARANCES MASTERPOST
So I decided, after literal years of relying on places like the marvel wiki and comicvine to look for and double check Foggy Nelson's appearances throughout the marvel universe, to go and make a comprehensive list of his appearances outside of the main Daredevil title, counting Daredevil limited series and one off stories, along with cameos and alternate universes. The intention was to streamline the process for myself so i dont have to scour through pages and pages every time I wanna remember which comic that one thing happened, but hey, why not make the process of finding comics easier for people who aren't as deranged as I am? So here I made this post, from a real Fog-head to other Fog-heads out there, listing every issue outside of the Daredevil title (as it is more straightforward to find him, and extremely long to type on this list) he appears in, from barely there cameos to central roles, sorted by whether they are set in Earth 616 or not, and in no particular order. This is simply a list to serve as a guide to find him, it is not a curated list so the quality varies wildly, but I hope you're all as curious as I was to find all the most obscure and niche Foggies out there. Enjoy :)
EDIT 1: The original post had been published without one of my alterations to the draft saving, so if you reblogged it without this edit, the list was missing 14 titles.

Spider-Man: The Tablet Saga
There are Spider-Man stories that are constantly talked about. There are Spider-Man stories that are condemned to the forgotten memories of fandom.
And then there are those weird ones in-between.
The ones that rarely crop up on ‘Best of’ lists nor ‘worst of’ lists. The ones that are few people’s favourites but are also not regarded as bad per se. The stories that are not regarded as anything close to iconic and are generally unreferenced by fans and creators yet nevertheless have been revisited far more often than you’d think.
Perhaps the prime example of this is the ancient stone tablet. Across stories and other media it’s rarely even had a consistent name. Only the word ‘tablet’ has remained constant but whether it’s ‘The Ancient Tablet’, the ‘Petrified Tablet’, the ‘Tablet of Time’ or the ‘Lifeline Tablet’ depends upon who you ask.
For years I dismissed the storyline. However, oddly it has been revisited enough times in Spider-History that I’ve grown rather fond of it. It helps that the stories attached to it are at worst flawed but never truly bad.
Anyway I’ve decided to make this post to list all the Spider-man stories associated with the Tabet and perhaps encourage others to check out this curious element of Spider-Man history.
ASM #68-75
The original story set the template (no pun intended) for the majority of the Tablet’s other appearances. The Tablet was initially essentially an ancient scientific note describing a chemical formula that could in theory give someone eternal youth. This in turn sparked a gang war chiefly between the Kingpin and his rival Silvermane. Naturally Spidey was caught in the middle, along with the Connors family. From then on the Tablet has predominantly been the object of gangland aspirations in spite of it being a more mystical item.
The entire storyline has been collected more than once, but the most recent as of this writing has been in Amazing Spider-Man Epic Collection Vol. 5: The Petrified Tablet Saga.
Spider-Man: The Animated Series Season 2 Episodes 11-12/’The Neogenic Nightmare’ Chapters XI-XII: ‘Tablet of Time’/’Ravages of Time’
Exempting recaps, Marvel Saga or Handbook entries this was possibly the first time the tablet was ever referenced after the initial story. It makes a certain amount of sense. The head honcho for the show, John Semper, was predominantly exposed to Spidey strips from the 1960s and 1970s during his formative years as a Spider-Fan. I suspect the late 1960s and early-mid-1970s more specifically. This time period was the peak of Kingpin’s tenure as an ongoing Sidey foe, hence the character propped up as essentially the main villain of the 1994 cartoon.
Additionally the second season of the show revolved around Spidey and other characters dealing with their genetic mutations and seeking ways to cure themselves; or in the case of villains exacerbate the problem. Since the tablet was a potential cure for the Lizard and the Lizard was a big part of the original storyline it was a logical story to adapt into a season all about mutations.
A LOT of details are changed between the comics and the cartoon, such as the inclusion of Tombstone and Hammerhead, neither of whom had been introduced when the original story was released; though ironically Hammerhead would appear in another Tablet storyline.
However, as with so much of the show, whilst the details changed the ‘spirit’ of the original story was retained. Kingpin and Silvermane are at war for the tablet, they have their muscle men get involved. Silvermane meddles with forces he doesn’t fully understand and isn’t careful what he wishes for. And Spidey and the Lizard are caught in the middle.
Ironically I think it’s these two episodes that truly ensured the place of the Tablet as part of the ‘collective memory’ of Spider-Fans. As obscure as it was it was always going to be at the back of fans minds due to these two wacky episodes.
Aside from an out of print DVD set, the most practical way to watch these episodes is on Disney+. For the record here’s the DVD though.
Spider-Man: Lifeline #1-3
This was the first true sequel to the original Tablet storyline. If read immediately after it’s predecessor it might come off as a bit flat and samey. This is due to the writer and artist team deliberately trying to evoke the 1960s style of the original storyline, although the story is firmly set in the (then) modern day. If read in the context of the times the story is a fun throwback that deftly recreates a bygone era and organically expands upon the original story even whilst it homages it.
However, for better or worse it is also the story that rendered the tablet an explicitly mystical item possessing potentially cosmic power. A lot of Spider-Man fans are turned off by anything too mystical. Usually I am too but for me personally the fun of this story is how successfully a 21st century story recaptures the 1960s, complete with witty Spidey one-liners.
The mini-series was collected several years ago alongside the original 1960s storyline.
Spider-Man: Forever Young
This Y.A. novel from 2017 is a curious novelty.
For about the first half of the novel it adapts the original story and does so fairly faithfully. This isn’t a case of being ‘spiritually faithful’ like the 1994 cartoon. I’d argue the vast majority of the dialogue used is word-for-word identical to Stan Lee’s and the narration describes practically the exact actions of the fight scenes from the 60s comics. Granted there are some changes and omissions. Quicksilver and the Shocker are noticeably absent whilst the Schemer/Richard Fisk is incorporated from a later Lee story. But overall it is like 90% faithful.
Which is extra remarkable considering it goes to the effort of updating the setting to modern times. So you have characters speaking dialogue and displaying attitudes faithful to a 60s comic book but they also have cel phones and other modern technology. This becomes especially odd when the author has to essentially update a discussion about the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s.
The biggest swerve of the novel is that it doesn’t end when it finishes adapting the original story. Rather the back-half goes on to tell an entirely original story that is built upon the foundation of the original and even incorporates some minor elements from the Lifeline mini-series.
If you don’t want to read the whole book, GraphicAudio produced an abridged audio version of it that’s currently available on Audible.
FCBD 2018, ASM v5 #1, 6-7, 26-28, 41-43
The latest installments in the Tablet’s saga is difficult to categorize because it has transpired as an off and on subplot within the current Nick Spencer run of ASM. The above are merely the issues I feel are most relevant to said subplot thus far.
I won’t comment on this storyline for now as it’s still brewing. Similarly, whilst I’m sure it will be collected again in the future, as of this writing these are the trades available to read the story so far.

Can you put together a visual timeline of all Reed’s appearances with a beard? Thanks so much it’s @krsjams from twitter
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SENDING IN THIS ASK! As my followers can probably tell you, Reed’s hot dad beard is one of my favorite topics.
For a guy who is THE Marvel dad, Reed went bafflingly long without growing his dad beard – it didn’t appear for the first time until Fantastic Four v1 #407 during DeFalco’s run, which was published in December of 1996. That’s right, it took thirty-five years for Reed to grow the hot dad beard we all deserve.
However, Reed’s facial scruff actually first appeared during Lee/Kirby’s run! The first time was during the famous Coming of Galactus arc in Fantastic Four v1 #48-49. To set the stage…the sky lit on fire all across the world. Reed subsequently locked himself in his lab for hours, and Sue was furious…until she burst in and angrily demanded that he eat something, only to discover that the Watcher was there to warn Reed that Galactus was coming to eat the Earth. Reed, the only person on Earth who knew what was coming, had slowly been having a nervous breakdown because he couldn’t figure out how to save everyone. So he wasn’t really worrying about shaving or eating.
Of course, once Galactus actually arrived, Reed thought THAT would be a great time to shave, and Ben decided it was time to take a bath. But, what the hell, who am I to judge? I’ve never stopped the world from getting eaten by an ancient space god.
Cut for length.
I should probably also mention that Alex Ross did an absolutely GORGEOUS rendition of this story arc in Marvels v1 #3, complete with Reed stubble:
The next time it crops up is in Fantastic Four v1 #67, when Alicia is abducted by a group of mad scientists who created Him, more commonly known as Adam Warlock. Ben is frantic, and he insists that Reed work without food or sleep until he locates Alicia:
In Fantastic Four v1 #147, Reed, who was separated from Sue at the time, discovers that Sue is divorcing him (a plot by Namor and the Inhumans get them back together, which is, like, the one and only time that Namor has ever been halfway decent to Reed). Reed is devastated:
He’s also stubbly in the next issue, although he also conveniently has shaved by #149 so he could kiss Sue while clean-shaven (little did he know that she preferred the beard).
Marvel Fanfare v1 #2 focuses on Ben and Reed’s relationship and Reed’s deep and abiding guilt over the rocket crash and Ben’s transformation into the Thing. Reed works himself ragged and pushes himself much too hard because he believes he’s on the verge of a cure for Ben…but ultimately fails:
In Fantastic Four v1 #239, Reed is again punishing himself for having failed to cure Ben, so he doesn’t eat or sleep for three days:
Reed was seemingly murdered by Victor Von Doom in Fantastic Four v1 #381, but in reality they were simply taken captive by Hyperstorm, his potential future grandson, who took Victor and Reed both prisoner and trapped Reed in the far-distant, technologically undeveloped past of a planet in an alternate dimension. Reed, unable to construct the intricate machinery he needed to return home, became a terribly depressed, isolated hermit living in a cave that all of the locals were terrified of. Sue, who refused to believe that Reed was dead, tracked him down, and they were reunited in #407:
Reed was deeply traumatized by the whole experience – Franklin compared him to a prisoner of war who was kept in solitary confinement for years. Unfortunately, the Onslaught crossover event occurred, and Reed’s PTSD recovery was very rushed. Nonexistent, really. Which is a shame because I LOVE angsty, broken Reed.
Reed does, however, keep the beard until Fantastic Four v1 #413, which is when he, on the recommendation of his psychiatrist, Doc Samson (who is treating Reed for PTSD), shaves it, much to Sue’s dismay:
But we do get several issues where Reed has a beard! And long hair. #407-412.
In Fantastic Four v1 #410, Reed and Sue get a quiet moment together – their first since they were reunited – where Sue tries to comfort a Reed who is freaking the fuck out about Hyperstorm:
There’s also an adorable moment in Fantastic Force v1 #18 where Reed is reunited with a teenage version of his son (Long story. Reed’s father kidnapped 4yo Franklin and raised him in the future and sent him back a teenager. Yeah, Nathaniel’s an asshole – he also knew Reed was alive the whole entire time, might I add, and just…let Reed’s family believe he was dead. And let Reed suffer as Hyperstorm’s prisoner. Have I mentioned how much I do not like Nathaniel?).
In Fantastic Four Unlimited v1 #12, Reed explains how he came to be trapped by Hyperstorm in the first place. It also includes Sue slowly coming to realize how broken her husband has been by the whole ordeal:
In Fantastic Four Unplugged v1 #3, we get flashbacks to what Reed was up to during his imprisonment:
In Fantastic Four Unplugged v1 #5, the FF stop a bomber – who turns out to be Blastaar, and Reed has the beard still:
Spider-Man Team-Up v1 #3, featuring Reed and Sue in matching robes:
Warning: I’m…not wild about the Reed characterization in this issue. It’s pretty terrible and OOC.
We next see scruffy Reed in Fantastic Four v3 #19, when the FF have been lost in the Negative Zone for several days:
The scruffiness continues into Fantastic Four v3 #20.
Reed next grows a beard for like an issue during Pacheco and Marin’s run in Fantastic Four v3 #45:
Why are they dressed like 1940s blue collar workers, you ask? I do not know.
He also has scruff in Fantastic Four v3 #59, although the art is not great:
During the Authoritative Action arc in Mark Waid’s run (this specifically is from Fantastic Four v1 #507), he likewise grows scruff on his face:
In Fantastic Four v1 #509, Reed is self-destructing over Ben’s abrupt death, and he doesn’t take the best care of himself:
In Fantastic Four v1 #512-#513, we get a flashback to Reed’s pre-FF, pre-Sue adventures with Alyssa Moy, and he’s doing his best Indiana Jones impression, complete with scruff:
I won’t lie. I LOVE this look. The luscious curly hair! The scruff! The shorts! The bandana tied around his neck! He’s scruffy and gorgeous.
In Fantastic Four v1 #525, Reed works tirelessly on discovering why the FF have been having each other’s dreams:
In Marvel Knights 4 #2, after the FF lose their fortune and get evicted from the Baxter Building, Reed packs up all of his belongings:
In Marvel Knights 4 #4, Reed gives little Val her nightly feeding:
I would like to thank Marvel for scruffy Reed tenderly feeding his little newborn baby.
In Fantastic Four v1 #540, which takes place during Civil War, we see that Reed is a broken, broken man who is barely holding himself together:
In Exiles v1 #91-94, we get an AU Reed who has the dreaded, signature Richards beard-ponytail combo:
Look. It is only a matter of time until 616 Reed succumbs and grows the ponytail. It is the unavoidable fate of all Richards men.
In Fantastic Four v1 #570 and for a lot of Hickman’s early run – Eaglesham seemed to like drawing Reed with significant facial scruff:
Just keep looking through Hickman’s run, because Reed has facial scruff for about half of it. Hickman knows what’s up — he’s also the one who gave us Reed’s current dad beard.
In Fantastic Four v1 #588, in the issue immediately following Johnny’s death, we see an unshaved Reed mourning in his lab:
In Amazing Spider-Man v1 #659, Reed also has a little bit of scruff:
Reed grows his current dad beard after the main Fantastic Four title was canceled. It first appears during Hickman’s Avengers/New Avengers in Avengers Vol 5 #37:
I would like to thank Hickman for the permanent dad beard, aka his greatest contribution to Fantastic Four canon. No, don’t try to argue with me. This is a fact.
In New Avengers Vol 3 #28, Reed goes up against Cap, and he’s got the beard:
In Avengers v5 #40, there’s some beautiful art:
In Avengers v5 #42, he also has a beard:
I am…skipping issues that have art I don’t like but he does have a beard from Avengers v5 #37 onward.
In Captain America and the Mighty Avengers #8, we get some of my favorite dad beard Reed art:
In Avengers World #21, there’s an AU farmer Reed who has a beard:
Throughout all of Secret Wars #1-9, Reed has a beard:
In Marvel 2-in-One v1 #6, we see an AU Reed with a beard:
In Marvel 2-In-One Annual, he has a beard, although it’s not totally clear whether or not this is our Reed (I think it is, but it’s not 100% confirmed):
In Fantastic Four v6 #1, our first glimpse of Reed since Secret Wars, he still has a beard:
WEDNESDAY SPOILERS FOR FANTASTIC FOUR V6 #2
He also has it in today’s issue, and I think he looks beautiful. I LOVE the hair!!!
Dear Marvel, please let him keep the hot dad beard forever.
