There’s this guy in town who owns this little house, and a while back he rescued a street dog that was going to get put down. Turned out she was pregnant.
Problem is, he has mental health & drug issues and couldn’t afford to get them all spayed & neutered, so now there are 6 grown bitches with 15 puppies total, and they’ve dug under his fence in multiple places but he can’t afford to fix it so they go roaming all around town. (When I say can’t afford it, I mean his house is currently running on a generator because he can’t afford his electric bill.) He’s also a day laborer so he cannot take multiple full days off work to take them to the vet an hour away. He’s in a really rough spot.
He’s not a bad person. He’s just overwhelmed.
And this little conservative town with 6 churches for 300 people, have they tried to help their neighbor? Have they adopted the puppies he’s been trying to give away? Have they offered resources?
NOPE! All they wanna do is talk shit about him and complain about the dogs but never lift a finger of their own. And they come to his house to yell at him and cuss him out about the dogs, which does not exactly engender in him a cooperative attitude, as you might imagine.
So after a while of this going on, my mom gets fed up with all the NIMBY bullshit and starts talking to the guy, because she’s done animal rescue for 20-odd years and has Connections. He’s resistant at first, but when he realizes she’s not being an asshole to him on account of his addiction or the dogs, he decides to let her help.
She gets to work organizing and networking. Finds a non-profit that will cover vaccinations, spay/neuter, and flea treatments for all the dogs. Talks the next-door neighbor into paying for materials to fix the fence, since this guy can do the work of it himself. Gets him in touch with another non-profit that will adopt out the adult dogs.
Less than 2 weeks after she decided to do something, all puppies have been to the vet, 10 puppies and 4 adult dogs have been adopted out, and the second non-profit is coming by next week to pick up the remaining 7 dogs to ship them out for adoption.
I’ve learned a lot of things from my mom—some good, some bad—but I think the most important positive message she lives as an example of is this: sometimes, when something needs done and no one else is willing, you gotta stand up and say “I’ll do it.”

My perfect thick idiot son, Calvin, who has never done anything wrong in his entire life except today when I let him climb my young redbud tree and he went to the highest branch and wedged himself in the crook of it and wouldn't budge and he's so big I was afraid that he might break the branch so I had to get a stepladder and get him down while the neighborhood jays that come by for peanuts whenever they see me in the yard freaked out and sat screaming on the fence to warn me that there's a snake very near me because I'm obviously too stupid to see it and clearly in mortal peril.

yall have got to be more normal about Southern people and I'm not kidding. enough of the Sweet Home Alabama incest jokes, enough of the idea that all Southerners are bigots and rednecks, and enough of the idea that the South has bad food. shut up about "trailer trash" and our accents and our hobbies!
do yall know how fucking nauseating it is to hear people only bring up my state to make jokes about people in poverty and incestuous relationships? how much shame I feel that I wasn't born up north like the Good Queers and Good Leftists with all the Civilised Folk with actual houses instead of small cramped trailers that have paper thin walls that I know won't protect me in a bad enough storm?
do yall know how frustrating it is to be trans in a place that wants to kill you and whenever you bring it up to people they say "well just move out" instead of sympathizing with you or offering help?
do yall understand how alienating it is to see huge masterposts of queer and mental health resources but none of them are in your state because theyre all up north? and nobody seems to want to fix this glaring issue because "they're all hicks anyways"
Southern people deserve better. we deserve to be taken seriously and given a voice in the queer community and the mental health space and leftist talks in general.

Cody Johnson - Leather (Deluxe Edition)
#CountryMusic
So today on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I would like to talk about the latest album from Cody Johnson. The new album is titled "Leather" and was on Friday November 3rd, 2023. And the deluxe edition was released on Friday November 1st, 2024. But before we dive into the new 25 track project, let's talk about Cody's Career for a little bit first up next.
Some of the biggest hits of Cody's career are songs like "'til you can't", "Human", & "On my way to you". Other hits include songs like "Nothin' on you", "Dear rodeo" with Reba McEntire, & "Ain't nothin' to it". Let's jump back o track before we go too far off topic. Here are the highlights of the album up next.
Cody had co-writting help from Hardy (Michael Hardy), & Devin Dawson on this new CD. His current single from the project is "The painter", & "Leather" is the title track as well. Other songs you should check out are "Work boots", "Double down" is a slight tribute to George Strait and his Ace in the Hole band, & "Watching my old flame go out". Kind of the stand out tracks in my opinion are "Dirt cheap", "Whiskey bent" featuring Jelly Roll, & "Long live Country Music" featuring Brooks & Dunn. Antther highlight of the album is "That's Texas", and here is the track list up next.
Here is some of the highlights from Disc 2. Some of the stand out tracks include such songs like "The fall", "I wished it was you", & "I'm gonna love you" with Carrie Underwood. Other songs you should check out are "Made in the USA", "How do you sleep at night?", "Over missin' you", & "The Mustang". Cody co-wrote 3 tracks out of the 25. Hardy, Devin Dawson, & Ryan Hurd also co-wrote on this album.
Track list. Disc 1.
Work boots.
Double down.
Watching my old flame go out.
That's Texas.
Dirt cheap.
Jesus loves you.
Whiskey bent (Featuring Jelly Roll).
Leather.
People in the back.
Long live Country music (Featuring Brooks & Dunn).
The painter.
Make me a mop.
Disc 2.
Overdue.
The fall.
How do you sleep at night?
Country Boy singin' the blues.
Georgia peaches.
Damn good life.
C'mon cowgirl.
I wished it was you.
Take it like a man.
I'm gonna love you (With Carrie Underwood).
Made in the USA.
Over missin' you.
The mustang.
And that's a wrap for the track list. And on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I would give this new CD a 5 out of 5 stars. Never a fan of deluxe editons of a previous album already released. For a 25 track album, there were a lot of songs that stood out for me. So if you are Cody Johnson fan or a CoJo Fan, you will enjoy this new project. Thanks for taking the time to read this review. See ya all next time.
