How to Spot Lucrative Airdrop Opportunities Before They Launch
In the ever-evolving world of cryptocurrency, airdrops have emerged as a popular method for projects to distribute free tokens to potential users and generate excitement around their offerings. By spotting lucrative airdrop opportunities before they launch, you can maximize your earnings and potentially boost your crypto portfolio. In this blog, we’ll explore effective strategies to identify promising crypto airdrops and ensure you're well-prepared to participate.
Understanding Airdrops
Crypto airdrops involve distributing free tokens to users' wallets, usually as a marketing strategy to promote a new cryptocurrency project. Airdrops can take various forms, and understanding these types is crucial for identifying worthwhile opportunities:
Standard Airdrop: Participants simply need to provide their wallet address to receive tokens. These airdrops often have limited quantities and can be time-sensitive.
Bounty Airdrop: Users perform specific tasks, such as sharing posts on social media or referring friends, to earn tokens. This type of airdrop rewards active community engagement.
Holder Airdrop: Tokens are distributed automatically to users holding a specific cryptocurrency in their wallets at a designated time.
Strategies to Identify Lucrative Airdrop Opportunities
Follow Airdrop Alerts and News Sources Stay updated with the latest information by following dedicated airdrop alert channels on social media platforms like Twitter and Telegram. Websites like Cryptolenz provide comprehensive airdrop lists and updates on the latest crypto airdrops.
Utilize a Crypto Airdrop Calendar A crypto airdrop calendar can help you track upcoming airdrops and their specific launch dates. This allows you to plan your participation effectively and ensures you don’t miss out on any opportunities.
Join Cryptocurrency Communities Engage with crypto communities on platforms like Reddit, Discord, and Telegram. These communities often share valuable information about potential airdrops and their experiences, providing insights into upcoming projects and campaigns.
Conduct Thorough Cryptocurrency Research Before participating in an airdrop, research the project behind it. Look for whitepapers, team backgrounds, and community engagement to assess the project's legitimacy and potential for success. Understanding the project's goals and roadmap can help you determine if it’s worth your time.
Monitor Trending Cryptocurrency Projects Keep an eye on trending cryptocurrencies and new projects that are gaining attention. Projects generating buzz are more likely to have successful airdrop campaigns, as they seek to build a community around their token.
Check for Airdrop Opportunities from Established Projects Established projects often conduct airdrops to reward loyal users or promote new features. Keep an eye on announcements from these projects, as they are more likely to offer valuable tokens.
Participate in Airdrop Campaigns Early Many airdrop campaigns have limited spots or require early participation. Be proactive in completing tasks or holding the required tokens to ensure you qualify for the airdrop.
Stay Cautious of Scams While many airdrops are legitimate, the crypto space is rife with scams. Always verify the authenticity of the project and its airdrop before sharing personal information or wallet addresses.
What to Do After Spotting an Airdrop Opportunity
Once you've identified a promising airdrop opportunity, follow these steps to maximize your chances of success:
Complete Required Tasks If the airdrop requires tasks, complete them promptly and accurately. Ensure you follow all instructions to qualify for the tokens.
Join Relevant Social Media Channels Many airdrops require participants to join the project’s Telegram or Discord channels. This not only helps you stay updated but also shows your commitment to the project.
Monitor Your Wallet After participating in an airdrop, keep an eye on your wallet for the appearance of the tokens. Some airdrops may take time to distribute, so patience is key.
Research the Token’s Future Potential Once you receive your tokens, conduct further research to understand their potential value. Consider holding onto them if the project shows promise.
Conclusion
Spotting lucrative airdrop opportunities before they launch requires diligence, research, and active participation in the crypto community. By using tools like airdrop alerts, crypto airdrop calendars, and engaging with airdrop campaigns, you can position yourself to take advantage of free crypto airdrops effectively. Remember, while airdrops are exciting, they also come with risks, so always conduct thorough research and exercise caution. Stay vigilant and proactive — you never know which free tokens might turn out to be the next big thing!

Hi Pillowfolks! It’s time for a Pillowfort Community Update. It has been quite a while since we’ve done one of these. If this is your first time here: The Community Update is where we let you know what Staff have been doing behind the scenes, happenings within the community, and a preview of what’s in store for the platform.
Community Stats:
As of May 11 2021, Pillowfort currently has over 118,000 registered users and 8,600 Communities.
Welcome New Users!
Welcome to Pillowfort. We are so glad you are part of our community. If you haven’t yet, check out the Pillowfort101 Getting Started Guide.
Public Release Update
It's so good to be back. We missed you so much. Please check out the 4/29 Site Update for a complete list of Security Revisions & Improvements.
Despite opening free public registrations in January, our team has decided not to re-open unlimited free registrations again for now. Instead, we will be introducing an automated rolling waitlist in the upcoming months. What this means is we will allow a certain number of new registrations per day and anyone who signs up for this waitlist will receive a free Pillowfort registration key when space is available. The ability to join via paid keys & user invitations will also still be available. This is simply a third option for people wanting to join that allows our site to grow in a more controlled manner. By switching to an automated rolling waitlist we can allow the Pillowfort community to stay fresh and active while also ensuring our team can keep pace with the demands of maintaining & providing for our growing user base. Our developers also want to focus on optimizing our site during the remainder of the year. Further details are available in the Developer Update below. Finally, we want to take the time to rebuild trust with the Pillowfort Community that our platform is reliable. First impressions are important and we’re aware we let a lot of users down. Nonetheless, we are encouraged by the enthusiasm we’ve seen for the site’s return, and we appreciate everyone who still believes in us.
Developer Update
After a successful re-launch of our platform at the end of April, our team held a meeting to discuss our current developer pipeline and what we would like to complete by the end of the year.
In the interest of continuing to create a positive experience for both current and prospective users, we are going to continue to focus on the site’s long-term success by refining our existing features and making structural improvements to the site that will improve performance. Going forward, this means more of the updates pushed to the site will go towards the platform’s structural integrity and these changes might not be visible to front-end users, but we will be doing a lot of work behind the scenes to set the site up for long-term success. The good news is that when this work is finished, it will allow us to begin the initial preparations of exploring the possibility of a mobile application to be released in 2022.
The exploration of a possible mobile application does not replace our priority into making Pillowfort more mobile browser friendly. We're not going to compromise out content policy for an app store.
In addition, we do still have some exciting things coming up for users to enjoy, such as the site-wide UI redesign which is nearing completion! Our goal is to have it live on Pillowfort sometime during this summer. The other features scheduled to be developed & released in the next few months include: improved blocking options, two-factor account authorization, multiple account linking, post queue & drafts, and organizational improvements to Communities.
Bug Bounty Update
We are still offering a Bug Bounty. If you find a bug on the site, particularly one that could pose a threat to the security or functionality of the site, contact Staff through our Contact form or directly at [email protected]. If you are unsure if we received your report, send us a DM to the Staff account here, or DM one of our social media channels to check on the status.
Note: We sometimes do not receive all notifications from users on other social media.  DMing the Staff account on Pillowfort to check on the status is the preferred method.
The first individual to notify us of a certain issue will be eligible for monetary compensation, depending on the severity of the issue found and the information provided.
We will be updating our Terms of Service within the next few days to add more formal details about our Bug Bounty program
Help Us Keep the Lights On!
At Pillowfort, we do not receive any funding from venture capital or other outside investors because we are committed to keeping our user experience a priority, and not being beholden to outside interests. Pillowfort has been entirely user funded since the beginning. Because users are no longer required to pay for a registration link, we are largely dependent on donations to help us pay the bills. If you would like to support us, you can make a one-time or recurring monthly payment to Pillowfort to help keep the lights on here. Any money donated to us now will be applied as a credit to your account when we release paid features & benefits in the future.

Here is a look at the new features scheduled to be released sometime in 2021. The following list is not in any particular order.
Improved Blocking Options
Complete Site-Wide UI Redesign
Queue & Drafts
2 Factor Authentication
Linked Account Management
A Special Thanks
Thank you for your support the last several months.  We express our gratitude every chance we get because this platform wouldn’t exist without your help. Pillowfort does not seek corporate investments, so it is entirely due to the generous financial support of our users that we were able to hire a consultant and keep paying our developers & fees while the site has been down. No amount of words written here can convey how wonderful of a feeling it is to return to working on developing a safe space for our entire community to share & create the content they want to create.
We’re going to do everything we can to rebuild trust with our community in the upcoming months with more transparency, more focus on improving Pillowfort’s current features, and improved communication with our user base. Stay tuned.
Best, Pillowfort Staff

HOOKS + OOCLY, I AM –––– (Below cut)
HOOKS –––-
Tumblr media
◘  Mystical Journey - Meet Captain who’s rebuilding towards something on a scale higher than the skies that’s far beyond himself. Whether friendships forged, romantic, rival, or outright enemy. Open to plot about just anything whether one-shot, or slice of life. Each confrontation and connection is impactful and holds weight that determines and shapes him, his source of power by himself is extremely low but the wind and orbit of who he’s surrounded swells and creates upon him alongside them or with that fact, he may overcame the impossible multiple times, even his goal of deemed ultimus. He’s lustful, prideful, sinful. Though there’s good in his scoundrel ways and also freely can be interpreted as evil against the pure heart. From descendants to nearly wherever sea’s may touch he can be found voyaging too or from. Depending on the City-State there’s more mystery surrounding him due to him trying to remain under the radar but he’s also pretty brash, open, which can net him in infinite chaos and trouble. This dark and often cursed seemingly lifestyle he’s thrown under sometimes he also needs to be in the company of innocent and light, peaceful individuals. To remain humane and stay on track of him straying from being the problem. Many lives have died under his company, many lessons and time’s he’s ‘wrecked’’ the smallest and few encounters overall tally and aid him with building his compassionate side to see those people again. ◘  Scourges - The worst of the worst pirate crew’s. They command various levels of commandment, control, conquering all that is blue and water-bound. Each hold their own vendetta and thoughts on what being a pirate or their own treasure ‘sake’ they wish to lay ownership. Ongoing and tackling these threats with Captain holds mighty risk. (Subject to your comfort) In this case it can result in injuries, mental trauma, or many afflictions that may provide more experience to your character or layers. - There are no clear solutions on how to defeat, overcome, or maybe it’s just an encounter with a band of Crewmates from the varying Crews, that’ll overall build steps closer to final battles or all-out Warfare or cripple these Crew’s to make him able to defeat them with his Wild Crew. ◘  Ulterior - (Mystery/+18Dark ) - A cultist crew held from marshy swamped seas, polluted and tainted. They blur webs of confusion alongside deceit. Operating in the blends of guises that shadowy walk in public crowds they don’t distinguish themselves. The pressure of this arc will be dark, twisted, and every foreboding, never certain what’s reality. Vastly in concern, they’ve begun becoming more bold and manipulating brave pirate’s, adventures, would-be sea goers who get reported missing soon afterwards. Only to be converted and abducted into this Cultist crew as nearly every encounter with them as they eat and feast off your fears turn’s their targets into belief of a high power, a mad god under all fleshing skin. Visited during nightmares. ◘  OMONGA - (Bloody/Violent +18 Extremely Dark) - This Scourge crew is one of the most dangerous altogether. They’re primitive freaks, viking pirates of sorts. Who outright raid, pillage, slaughter anything that moves approaching their territory. A force unlike any other, a dominating and deathly, blight of a Giant who strike’s fear just mentioned by pirate’s of old, stays clear from him and often plays nice to prevent gaining his wrath or detection, better to submit. YORE of the Gorey Seas is their Captain who destructively holds gatekeeper and one force that Maelstrom even cannot overcome their brute waters as they stay stationary and defensive, he’s not too mobile beyond his ‘Nation’  but his crew are savages and they operate like the fiercest warmongers, also they’ve got berserkers. Used to be known wanted but after many bounty hunters and foolish adventurers tried taking his life and the failures stacked up, using the defeated and weak for soil for harvesting their crops, and even their own fleets could bypass their engineering he remained untouchable. Sort of a necessary bridge from one individual owning all the seas altogether. They’ve a whole hierarchy, torture system, culture, that is ultra barbaric. He’ll need additional power to help him have a chance to survive and maintain more importantly the lives of his Crew. This is his last chance to get it all right. (There’s more too but I’ll save them unless asked or somehow the other’s become dealt with or too full.) ◘  Wanted: Deadman - (Suspenseful / Thriller / Mystery) - Recently Captain had resurfaced from death making advancements and pursuits only identifiable as his motives. Maelstrom and other officials, detectives, could be working alongside a set of Law characters that I’ve created also trying to seize and capture him for not just a hefty bounty it’s an instant hanging to death and gallows if he’s caught this time. Or a huge payout. He’s stacked multiplied crimes of indecencies, broken peace, slandered Maelstrom, stolen, scammed, rebelled for Freedom, liberated and uncovered crimes against city-state laws, he’s an outright menace to society. Though Captain and his Crew are crafty and now alongside his First Crewmate are covering his tracks desperately to prevent him from being heard again. Though if Captain succeeds in claiming or ‘Goldbrand’’ regains recognition and infamy again over the high-seas whether by gaining influence, relics, or defeating Scourges and creating more noise. He’ll be even more on the run. His Crew are accessories so capturing them may be enough to draw him out or still provide information and payouts. If he’s noted to still be breathing a full on world bounty can be placed to only increase the odds stacked against his time. (Also wanted by Voidals and anything relating to a Scourge. His enemies are highly stacked but he’s got some incredible reach and allies, people he genuinely loves and cannot be anything without them.) ◘  Isle RP - (High Fantasy / Evolving) - Various Isle’s can be visited, linked and tether to a Crewmate’s personal quest. Or maybe Fables. Each Isle has its own unique dangers and is creatively open to any adapting once the base concept is thought out. I have multiple in mind. Some of them have treasures, others have temporary treasures once the threat on each Isle is dealt with the treasure may be spent. Those things might be non useful, so the experience and journey alone may be the only reward. Or surviving and wreckage etc can also occur, it's all open to free-form.
◘  Relic Hunt - (High Fantasy / Evolving ) - (Reference) - Captain’s crew and trade is being a professional treasure hunter diver. Searching and uncovering ancient tablets and thing’s long forgotten past time itself from allagan, mhachi, amdapori and other mythological natures. From Voidal Relics to the series of Deity Relic’s there remains ruins and dungeons, trials, labyrinths, that possess unique items with governed power imbued from primals, high aetherial beings, or prototypes to strange works of magic and science. Depending on the Relic often determines how desperately Captain seeks to net it under his awareness than allow another to uncover as rival band’s of Scourges and pirate crew also would chase for such and want to use it for dominion and nefarious reasonings. Sometimes they’ll already possess said Relic’s and be threats to battle for the property. Which in that case it’s plundering.time. Depending what Relic is conversed around it could be difficult puzzles, or trials, or something more tame to fetch. If another Historian or someone he believes would preserve the item, safer than within his stead, he’ll only aid in retrieving and less on acquiring. Better the relic stay’s far from his lurking dangers that already pursue his waters.
◘  Crew / No Crew - (Optional Addon) - Can choose whether you wish me to RP the other Crewmates and have them interact with your character / characters or bring multi-muses too. Each Crewmate or the main 13 have their own quests, narratives, their own motives of why they’re even following Captain, but they can betray, be broken, all them will act very realistic and lifelike, so they can be romanced etc too. Captain would go to world’s end for them. Make no mistake, this is his Last Crew and shot, he’s on the thinnest surface of water. Soon the mightiest tides will crash and collide against him and his Worldly Finder, his ship, if he’s unable to reign them or lead them to aid their own morale's then he’ll have no chance in getting to the end of his own quest, goal. Each scourge, relic, everything is an obstacle and aiming for something grand.
Alternatively, I can just RP Captain himself and vaguely mention anything else regarding. Might also gain allies, other crewmates, other things that’ll play parts depending on the arc.
Tumblr media
Writing is my lifeblood I enjoy stories.
Overly chill and outspoken along with communication my prime focus. I human so I break down and have to recuperate my energy and health sometimes. Not into drama outside RP.
I Para-RP but do nearly ever format and style.
I’m open to plot within any genre.
24/7 Nerd. +18 year RP experience all around from LARPing, Dungeon Master /  Former event runner /  Former Owner / Leader for Discords and Linkshells / Tabletop Creator. There’s nothing I cannot do.
I’m CST. Though chronic-deteriorating health makes my hours rando. I prefer Discord RP. (Tumblr too sometimes if have an idea.) In-game I can be swayed. ◘  ~ This all long but trying to be communicative and thorough upfront. A necessary evil, I fear.

Bungie Weekly Update - 2/6/20
This Week at Bungie, we’re calling in reservations.
It’s been a wild week in Destiny 2. Inotam, Oblivion’s Triune, made their grand entrance into the Sundial. Guardians descended upon Mercury, weapons in hand, eager to protect the timeline from certain annihilation. While you’ve prevented the Psions from changing history, this isn’t the last trial you’ll face - not by a longshot.
The first three Empyrean Foundation goals have been met with haste. One billion Fractaline isn’t enough for the Foundation, and the next goal is currently in reach. Your next stop: 2.2 Billion Fractaline donations.
We knew you’d rise to the challenge, but this? This is absolutely insane. Keep that Fractaline coming. We’re seeing quite a few Guardians investing in their Fractaline futures, but many hitting the donation button to quickly earn some sweet Timelost weapons.
The final triumph for the Savior Seal will be completed once the community completes the seventh stage of this event. We’re excited to see a new title in the wild. Players will also unlock the ability to pre-order the Savior Bungie Reward pin once they have completed all Triumphs for the Seal.
Now, let’s look at the calendar. We have some beats to cover that are coming up quick, with a new Season on the way in just over a month! Below, you’ll find details on Crimson Days, Destiny 2 Hotfix 2.7.1.1, and a patch note preview for Season 10.
LOVE IS ALMOST IN THE AIR
Have you been feeling a bit lonely lately? Lacking a partner by your side in the heat of battle? Crimson Days is on approach, bringing the perfect opportunity for you to form an unbreakable Crimson Bond with a fellow Guardian.
Crimson Doubles returns to the Crucible during the event, bringing explosive 2v2 combat to the fold. Stay close to your partner: you’ll each have heightened ability regen as long as you retain your Crimson Bond. If you stray too far away from each other, opponents will be able to see your every move. If you’d rather take your partner out for a stroll in one of Destiny 2’s PvE activities, Shaxx will offer bounties for you to complete in a two-person fireteam.
As you complete Crimson Doubles matches and bounties, you and your partner will be showered in delicious candy hearts. To sweeten the deal, Daily and Weekly bounties will offer double XP. Bright Dust will also be rewarded when completing your weekly bounties.
As you begin to stockpile Confectionary Hearts, they can be exchanged with Lord Shaxx for Crimson Days themed rewards, including two new Exotic Sparrows. Ride in tandem to show the strength of your Crimson Bond!
Tumblr media
If this is your first Crimson Days event, or you didn't earn enough hearts in years past, rewards from previous events will also be available to earn alongside the new Sparrows.
Tumblr media
Additionally, spare Confectionary Hearts may be exchanged for Warmhearted Gift packages containing Glimmer, with a slight chance for legendary loot. Once you’ve collected both Sparrows and claimed the associated Triumph, an exclusive emblem will become available through Bungie Rewards.
Tumblr media
Eververse will feature many items from previous events for Bright Dust, including two new items exclusive to Crimson Days. One new item will be available for Silver only, the Heartfelt Union Multiplayer Emote.
Tumblr media
Crimson Days will be available from February 11 to February 18, 2020.
CUTTING EDGE
We’re a little over a month out from the next Season of Destiny 2 and this seems like a good time to start talking about Sandbox. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be covering upcoming changes to weapons and abilities. Some changes will be PvP-centric, while others will bear more of a PvE focus.
Our first subject: Swords.
Some are sharp. Some are blunt. One lets you bend space and time to teleport through enemies. Another has projectiles that can take down foes at range. Since the launch of Destiny 2, we’ve been seeing feedback on general functionality and the team has been kicking around ideas on how to make things a bit more enticing.
After some brainstorming and development time, Swords are receiving a sort of tableflip when it comes to light attacks, heavy attacks, and guarding. While you’ll still rip and tear through opponents, as you would expect from a Sword, most of what you know needs to be unlearned. The blades have been rebalanced, and a new energy meter is making its way to swords. Below, you’ll find a full rundown from our development team.
Dev Team: Swords are getting a little more love this Season. While Swords have been a staple of Destiny ever since their introduction in The Taken King, we felt they were due for an update both to freshen them up, but also to allow us more room to work with them in later releases.
Sword Energy
Swords now have their own reserve of energy that recharges naturally on its own, and is not to be confused with ammo capacity. This energy will overtake your melee slot while you’re wielding a sword and is spent on various actions.
Guarding
Guarding now uses sword energy instead of consuming ammo. Different guards have different consumption rates, damage resistance and behaviors, so be sure to experiment and find a guard type you like. You’ll still need at least one ammo to begin guarding, though.
Back during Season of the Drifter, the Stronghold exotic for Titans was introduced, allowing them to guard with relative impunity and opening up a more interesting opportunities for swords to shine in a variety of content which caused us to take another look at the guard function itself. Although the guard function has always existed, it was never really considered worth the cost. With this change, we hope that players will use their guard intelligently to protect themselves instead of it being an almost unused button. Rest easy, Stronghold has also been modified to still allow Titans a unique guarding experience.
Light Attacks
Grounded light attacks for all Swords will now loop for an infinite combo, and all Swords can cleave.
While the basic three hit combo is quite a staple of melee weapons in many games – In a shooter this leaves the player extremely open to enemies. By letting the light attacks loop, we also push them and the heavy attacks apart further. Cleaving on light attacks was previously only on the Aggressive Swords, but we opted to add it to the rest of them for more hack ‘n slash.
Heavy Attacks
Heavy attacks now consume Sword energy. While you are always able to perform a heavy attack, the attack is stronger when you have full energy, and weaker when you don’t.
A lot of swordplay in many situations simply boiled down to endlessly mashing the heavy attack button instead of mixing up attacks which wasn’t quite the most interesting experience. Do note that aerial heavy attacks as a general rule do not consume Sword energy, but that can vary based on the Sword.
Shield Bypass
A portion of most Sword attacks can partially bypass elemental shields.
We added this to give Swords a little bit of a personality difference from shotguns who share a very similar role in combat as powerful CQC  weapons.
In general, Swords have also had some of the damage amounts for different attacks changed, and the various Sword perks have been adjusted. So you’ll want to experiment a bit after the changes hit. We do hope you’ll enjoy the changes.
BLINDED BY THE LIGHT
Hotfix after Hotfix, Destiny Player Support is here for you. Timetables, known issues, and frequently asked questions are handled with care. They approach each conversation with white gloves and gold standards.
This is their report.
CONTRIBUTING TO EMPYREAN RESTORATION On Tuesday, the Empyrean Restoration went live. Player Support noticed that some players were confused on how to participate and contribute their Polarized Fractaline. To do so, players must complete the Bright Light quest from Saint-14. To unlock this quest, players must complete the following prerequisites:
Complete the following quests from Osiris: A Matter of Time.
Then, complete Saint-14’s quests: Tribute to the Colonies, Cornerstone, and A Guardian’s Duty.
CRIMSON DAYS AHEAD Next week, Crimson Days returns to the Crucible. Our Help article will update on February 11, 2020, to bring you updated information about the event, including that it will end at the weekly reset on February 18.
Here are a few known issues about the event:
Players will be unable to accept Lord Shaxx's "Fire of the Crimson Days" emblem if they already have this emblem in their inventory. Deleting the emblem will allow them to accept the new one and complete the “Welcome to the Crimson Days” Milestone.

Burnt Heart: Ch 2. Trust Thunderstruck
Many years had passed, and the Kikai Empire's power had never been higher. Under Zannah's rule, she had obtained four different islands, and the unclaimed tip of a land from another continent. Her people had spread like wildfire after interbreeding with colonialized races into the Empire. The baby boom was high for Hasai birthrates, and she couldn't be more overjoyed. Her citizens were almost fanatically devoted to her, working hard to fit and find a place in the gears of her well-oiled Empire. The Waku in particular, while young, were growing in secret exactly to her design. Most grew up being completely loyal to the Empire. However, there was always resistance, and with her reach so far, there was bound to eventually be a loose gap in her defenses.
Flying on a Wyvern, a Waku, descended from his Dal mother and Emperor Zannah's vision, grew angry with their life. They grew complacent training to be a fighter for the Empire. Most of all, they grew resentful that they never grew up with the love and care of a father.
It started a cold trial from her ignorant mother, which lead her to the heart of the Empire. There, she secured the name of the first Waku. A man of great renown known as Kahli. She needed to find this man, and she knew that word would travel to ears belonging to agents of the Empire quickly that she escaped from her mother's watchful eye. Maybe the agents weren't fast enough, or maybe they didn't catch on at all, but she found herself flying into the borders of Hyrule. Her Wyvern only slightly bigger than a horse, starting to fly closer to the earth. Grievous would find this man and make him answer dearly to their questions.
Kahli had volunteered to take the exports to the docks so Zizi could have a day to prepare for Manaco's upcoming birthday. He was a man now, and had completed his first trial of manhood. Her son had purchased a plot of land for his family one day. Now, he was in the process of finishing his house. So, to celebrate the occasion, Zizi was baking his favorite dessert; strawberry cake. No matter how tough her son acted, he still had a weakness for the sweet, tasting fruit. When Kahli returned, the two of them would go over to Manaco's new place with the cake. She was in the middle of spreading the whipped cream over the cake when she heard a knock at the door. Glancing at the clock, Zizi thought it was odd. Kahli was not due home for another couple of hours. Who was visiting?
Opening the front door, Zizi was surprised to see... someone new.
"Yes? May I help you?"
"Where is he woman?" Grievous had white war paint on her face, giving her the impression of a skull. Yellow eyes and red skin were the norm for any Waku, yet due to her Dal heritage, a primate tail was flicking back and forth angerly. Her hair was bountiful, parting more backwards due to a war helmet she wore. Honestly, due to the massive amount of protection in Hyrule, most would find it ill advised to threaten someone so openly in public, but not this girl. "Where is the man known as Kahli? Show yourself you coward!"
"... okay, I've been through this before." Zizi had a very unimpressed look on her face. "Look, everyone wants to fight my husband, or has wanted to kill him at some point. So, what is it? What could he have possibly done this time in the past? I'm in the middle of baking a cake for my son and you're interrupting. Kahli is not here, so go ahead and leave or else I will just launch you off my doorstep myself."
Grievous shot a streak of fire at one of the flowers that Kahli gardened for her.  "I have no quarrel with you woman. Are you his servant perhaps? I will ask only once more before I tear this house apart to drag him out into the streets. Show yourself! You dare call yourself Father to the Waku?!"
Zizi was old. Zizi was tired. Zizi was the earth sage. She had patience and kindness in her heart. But right now? Zizi was very annoyed. This was going to end very quickly. The Zemlja did not even have to move. Her magic was advanced far beyond what was normally expected due to her sudden status as earth sage. She did not desire the title, but it was entrusted to her. Most of the time, she did not have to use such harsh magic.
The earth suddenly opened and swallowed the stranger up to her neck. It hardened and kept her in place. There would be no way she'd be able to move.
"I. Am. His. Wife." Zizi bent down to look the young girl in the eye. "You mess with him, you mess with me."
"Let me go! Or my mighty mount will rip you to shreds."
To Zizi, the Wyvern might as well be a house cat compared to the dragons she knew from her homeland. At first it looked surprised at its owner being trapped under the earth. Next it spread its wings wide, baring its teeth. With one leg kicking the dirt, it looked as though it was either ready to charge head first with its horns, or snap at Zizi. "That man owes me! You will not deny me my hunt for him! I've come too far!"
Zizi merely whistled and from there, three enormous Lorleidian dragons arrived outside her house. Ari'phompha was one, glaring down at the little Wyvern. The earth dragon was older than the rest of the group, but still able to fight. She snorted loudly and tapped her claws.
"You won't win this battle, young one. I suggest you back off." Ari'phompha warned the Wyvern. "You shall not harm our friend."
"Kahli owes you nothing." Zizi poked the girl's head. "Why don't you calm your temper and tell me what this is all about or else, I'll have my friends escort you away."
"Fight for friend. N-not scared of you." The little Wyvern growled back at the much more powerful and far bigger dragons. He couldn't shoot any type of energy from his mouth, and had no arms to fight with, but he had his spunk.
Grievous nearly let her age get the better of her and almost was on the verge of crying. "That bastard is my father! A father I never knew! Release me vile earth witch!"
It was as if the world stopped. Time stopped. Everything came to a screeching halt.
"...!!! WHAT?!" Zizi shouted so loud that even the dragons winced at her volume. "YOU LIE!!!" She pulled the girl out of the ground by the collar and held her there. "He is MY husband! He would never cheat on me! The bond prevents him from doing so!"
The Waku was currently still too weak from the earth having gripped her like a vice to fight back physically, but the fire in her eyes didn't mean she would stop trying to express her fury. "Look into my eyes! I am Waku! The one known as Kahli is the only one who can be my father! I am one of hundreds!"
"Hu... hundreds?" Zizi felt her heart sink into her gut. Her eyes. None of the Hasai had eyes like that except for Kahli. It couldn't be true! It just couldn't! Kahli wouldn't hurt her like this, wouldn't hurt their family like this... would he? "How? How can this be possible? Kahli said... the bond..."
"I took so long to pry the information from my mother, but eventually she caved. She said she was given the honour of being a donor for the Empire." Her tail had enough strength slap at Zizi's hand. Catching her landing, Grievous' scowl deepened. "I was disgusted by this revelation. All my friends and allies had fathers they knew. Father's they loved. I never did. What more, I was born a freak, one of hundreds from a test tube." The last two words held undeniable malice in her voice, the seriousness of the matter dripping from every word.
Zizi's knees buckled and she hit the ground hard. The Zemlja was in shock. The girl had no reason to lie. There was evidence enough by her appearance. Judging by the girl's age, this happened years ago. This was a plan of Zannah's and Kahli was her pawn. She was angry and hurt by Zannah using her husband for personal gain, but also at Kahli for allowing Zannah to use him. There was no way Kahli would be manipulated so easily. Zannah had to have something on him. Yet still... did he even try to fight this? Hundreds... hundreds of them... so this was not just a one-time occurrence. Zannah had been doing this experiment of hers for a long while now.
"I... didn't know..." Zizi's voice was so soft, the dragons barely heard her.
Grievous leaned down to grab Zizi by the collar. Clearly, she had not known, but she still needed answers out of this little woman. "Where is he?"
Kahli had been making his way back from work early. He worked extra hard to come back home to his wife as to help her prepare in celebration for their son's birthday. Manaco was a bright man, and his father was so proud of all his accomplishments. He arrived with a crate of fresh milk he loved, hoping to have time to wrap it in paper. What he saw next shattered any and all current plans.
In his house was a Waku girl. He wasn't a fool. Kahli knew what this meant. This was the end to his longest and darkest kept secret. When he saw this girl grab his wife by the collar, however, Kahli snapped into action. Swiftly leaping into action, he grabbed her by the scruff of her neck, throwing her back off his wife.
"---!!! You---!!!"
She didn't get to finish her surprise as Kahli brought his palm forward, breaking her nose. With the next strike, he delivered a swift kick to her chest, sending her rolling backwards down his front steps and onto the dirt road. "Leave my house. And never return. You bring danger to us all by coming here. I don't know you, and you don't know me. Try anything other than leaving, and I will turn you into ash." Kahli was dark, cold, and unkind in his words to this girl. Before she could answer back, he shut the door on her. Might have a minute or two as she got the wind back in her sails to check on his wife. Carefully, Kahli turned to Zizi, feeling the weight of his sins crawl down his back and sit on his chest as his hands carefully rested on her shoulders. "Zizi… did she hurt you?"
Zizi was still processing what just happened. A girl, no... Kahli's daughter had shown up on the doorstep. He had a part in this. He had to be willing. What was she thinking? Kahli always ran to Zannah like a lost puppy whenever she called. He missed birthdays and holidays. He'd leave suddenly and then return. When did she go so blindly in love that she refused to see it anymore? Kahli's loyalty was never to her, it was to Zannah. Any order the Empress gave, he'd carry out in a heartbeat. All those years ago when the two of them visited with Malik and Asakoniegei, he had even gone so far as to defend Zannah's actions. The Zemlja tried her hardest to find a way to rationalize an excuse, but... she could not find one. It was a soul-crushing sensation which now weighed on her. Good spirits, what would her children think? Not only was she heartbroken over this revelation, but her babies... oh, sweet spirits, they would never look at Kahli the same again. Her family would never be the same again...
"No... she didn't." Zizi then looked up at him with absolute rage in her eyes. "But you're going to hurt."
With a massive blast of magical energy, Zizi shot Kahli through the front door, across the flower garden, and slammed him into the statue in the middle of the fountain.
Grievous was rising from the ground, finally catching her breath, when Kahli was sent flying outwards. His foot caught her in the head, cutting her temple and sending her crashing back into the ground.
Kahli didn't fight back as Zizi raised her hands to rocket him away. He knew that he deserved her anger, her hatred. The door was hard enough against his back to smash through, and he didn't know what he hit on the way to the statue, but upon crashing into it, he suffered six broken ribs upon impact, as well as his left arm snapped in two. With awful breathing, he took on water as he tried to keep his head a float.
"You... how could you?!?!" Zizi tromped out of the house, her anger causing prickly thorns and massive vines to rise from the ground. The magic swirled violently around her being, green sparks shooting through the air. This was the first time that Kahli would ever sense such rage from his wife. "I gave you my heart and my soul! A family, a home, I saved you and loved you and this is how you repay me?!"
Kahli took a solid minute to pick himself up from the fountain, only able to lean his body on the outer ring. "I didn't stop loving you. I provided for our family. I understand your anger... but this? I've never... struck any of you."
"You think that is an excuse for your infidelity?!" Zizi nearly shrieked at him. "That is your fucking daughter that showed up on my doorstep! And by the looks of it, she's fully grown! That, and she told me she has hundreds of brothers and sisters?!" She then told him, "Hit you!? You're lucky that I don't castrate you!!! You liar! You cheater!"
"I NEVER FUCKED ANYONE!" For that yell, Kahli's felt a bile of iron rise up his throat and trickle out his mouth. "Zizi… gods. It's complicated. But she's not my daughter."
"I don't care if you fucked a cow! That is your daughter! There's no denying those eyes, Kahli!" Zizi screeched. "You think I'm stupid?! I don't care how complicated it is, the bottom line is, you have other sons and daughters out there that were grown in test tubes and utilized for Zannah's benefit! After all this time, you still chose her and not me?! Not our family?! Spirits, when did I ever become so foolish to believe that one day, you'd chose us over duty to the Empire?!"
"I didn't choose jack shit. My sons and daughters are my fifteen children with you. They... they may be children, but they are not my children."
"Now you're just deluding yourself." Zizi scoffed with tears running down her face. "Don't bother coming home. You're not welcome anymore." She then wiped at her cheeks and sniffled, walking back to her house. Along the way, she saw the young girl staring at her. Whether it was awe, fear, or a mixture of both, Zizi did not know. Yet, the girl did not deserve her hatred or angry. Offering a hand, she helped her to her feet. "You, however, may come in."
Grievous looked back and forth between the two. At the invitation, she was taken aback. "Why?"
"Because you've done nothing wrong." Zizi told the girl quietly. "You don't deserve this."
Grievous looked to the bitter husk of her father seeking to pull himself out of the fountain, yet struggling to do so. Quirking an eyebrow at Zizi, she asked a question that was simply that. "What if I came all this way to kill him?"
"Wouldn't it be better to let him suffer?" Zizi's voice sounded cold. "Death might be too easy according to Waku traditions."
"Him? He's survived worse." Zizi then instructed Ari'phompha. "Take him to the healers. Leave him there and don't brign him back here." Ari'phompha carefully picked up Kahli within her large claws and flew him in the direction of the Dusa's hospital. "You have questions. I have answers. Come inside."
“No. I have questions for him and him alone. Ask them to bring him back. I’ll heal him.”
"No. You want to talk to him, you go to him." Zizi used her magic to grow a makeshift door out of the ground since she blasted off her other one. "He's not coming back in here. If you want to go talk to him, he's that way."
“Do you not have same questions I do?”
"He lied to me. I no longer trust his words." Zizi was trying to keep her voice from trembling. "I don't care for answers."
“I do. I will never get close to him again if you send him away. Please.” Grievous felt suddenly woozy, sitting down on her porch.
"... you got knocked pretty hard, didn't you?" Zizi bent down to look at the bruise on the girl's head. "Worry about yourself first. Stay right there, I'll get you some ice." Within a few moments, she returned with a bag of ice and handed it to the daughter of Kahli. "Keep it against your forehead."
“What is this?”
"It's an ice pack. To help against the sting of pain."
“What’s ice? It’s cold.” Grievous frowned, throwing the pack away. “I don’t like tricks.”
"Hey, missy!" Zizi picked up the ice pack and held it to the girl's head herself. "You're going to hold it right there to keep the area from swelling so much, whether you like it or not." She scolded her, the motherly side getting the best of her. "It's not a trick. It's ice. My sister can make it. Keep it there until I find the kit, are we clear?"
Grievous rose her hands, ready to punch, yet slowly started to calm down as the ice eased her head. “I don’t have ‘ice’ where I live... I will stay if you feed me and Sylvain.”
"... you're lucky that I'm known to feed just about anyone." Zizi helped the girl to her feet and steadied her as she walked inside the house. "And your name again?"
“Grievous. It’s a Dal name.” She frowned, her anger suddenly starting to melt the ice into water.
"Grievous. Mind if I call you Grivy for short?" Zizi then placed a plate full of leftovers in front of the young girl. "Baked honey salmon, grilled asparagus, and cream corn. Eat up, sweetheart. You've traveled a long way."
“That’s not very serious...” The teenager didn’t push her nickname further though. Being offered salmon she tried to not let her mouth water. “Fish please. Do you have a bathroom with a mirror?”
"My name is Zizi, that's about as far as serious as you can get." She instructed, "Down the hall, to the left. It's the blue door. You can't miss it. Don't take too long, your food will get cold."
Grievous made her way to the bathroom per instruction. Quickly grabbing a towel, she cleaned up the blood that had trickled down her face.  Once she stopped the blood trial, using only a finger, she burned her wound shut with a searing fire. Even she was not able to keep herself from screaming profoundly.
The scream caught her off guard. Zizi rushed to the bathroom to find the door lock.
"Hey young lady! You open this door, right now! What's wrong?! Don't make me take it down!"
She finished yelling in her own language, finally calming down. “I’m fine. Just cleaning up the wound.” Opening up a pouch she carried at her side, the girl reapplied her war paint. Needed to keep up appearances in unknown territory. Be scary before being nice.
Since Zizi was a Zemlja, she simply swung open the wood door with her magic.
"You're going to get it infected."
“I know what I’m doing. Burned it close.”
"And it can still get infected, goodness, why did you put that paint back on your face?" Zizi took a rag from the cabinet and soaked it with warm water. She also pulled out a jar of aloe and medical herbs to use as a paste over the wound area. "There's no going to war around here, no one will harm you. You're completely safe---stop squirming. You're worse than Manaco when he was little. This might sting a little." After she had removed a good portion of the paint, she applied the paste. "There. Now it will heal twice as fast and keep bacteria out."
Her face was a fine light red, with brown rustled hair all over. She struggled at first of course, but eventually simply froze as Zizi went to work on her. Her tail smacked the woman as she applied the paste. “That hurts. And my paint is a symbol of courage and my rage.”
"... do you really think that this paint means anything around here?" Zizi placed an adhesive on top of the paste to keep it there for the rest of the day. "Look, it's peaceful here. You don't need to fight. So, come back in the kitchen, eat, and I'll answer what I can and you answer what you can. Sound fair?"
“I wear it for my preparation with Kahli. It’s... its part of my heritage as a Dal.” She sulked, sadly applying more paint. She wanted to cover her fear and insecurities. “It gives me a mask of protection. I’ll join you soon.”
"... then only on half of your face, away from the bandage. Or I'm cleaning it off again." Zizi returned to the kitchen and sat down with a hard thump on her chair. She sighed, her shoulders sagging as she ran a hand back through her hair. This was never going to go away... there were more children of Kahli's out there. Hundreds more... she wanted to yell and scream and cry... but what good would it do?
When Grievous returned to the kitchen to take her seat, half of her face was appeared tame, docile even. With no paint, she had small scratches on her face, but was rather petite. On the other half she tried to detail the terror in the skull factor. “Is Sylvain being fed?”
"I asked the other dragons to take Sylvain to the stable." Zizi tapped the side of the head. "We have a mental link, so we don't need to talk face to face like this. Sylvain is gorging on fish and dried jerky."
“Good.” The Waku leaned forward over the table, even her unpainted side pulling off a mean look. “Who exactly is my father? Don’t think of today. What kind of man is he that you know of him?”
"Kahli... he's..." Zizi was not expecting such a question. She took a breath to steady her nerves. Even though she tried to keep her voice from shaking, it was difficult. "I-I... I met Kahli over 25 years ago in one of my greenhouses. That day, he was hurt and running from enemies. I helped him and... he's been at my side ever since. He's a great father and does his best to look after everyone he cares about. He works very hard on the plantations and provides for many people with his job. Despite having harsh beginnings with my brother-in-law, he has done his best to mend that relationship." She swallowed thickly, blinking back tears. "He always said he loved me, but... I can't trust him anymore. He... he cares more about following orders than he does his family and I was a fool not to see it sooner." Zizi took a napkin and wiped at her cheeks. "Sorry, I... this is a lot to take in."
“Following orders is the way of a Hasai. It’s like this mental string.” She tapped at her own forehead. Stopping, she studied this sad woman. “How much did he love you? Your family? Was he a good man?”
"Kahli loved me enough to stay here in Hyrule. To give me a family, to help raise his family, to protect his family... nearly panicked when I hemorrhaged giving birth to our triplets. To leave his life of duty for the Empire behind... so I thought." Zizi looked so... so defeated. She felt like she had not only lost her husband, but her whole foundation of trust. "He... he is a good man... was a good man... but... I just can't trust him after this." She told her, "Grivy, Lorleidians feel a pull of magic to their soulmate. It's not based on attraction or lust, it's just... you look at that person and you can't imagine life without them. It's rare, but it happens with Lorleidians. It happened with me." The Zemlja then said, "But when trust is broken... when secrets are kept... it brings nothing but pain. And some wounds just never heal."
“How many children do you have with him? Who are the offspring more important than I?”
"More important?" Zizi placed a hand on Grivy's shoulder. "You are no more or no less important than my children. Everyone has worth." She then added, "And to answer your question... I have fifteen children. Five sons and ten daughters."
“But I wasn’t good enough for him, now was I.” Grievous took a bite from the food presented to her. Was lukewarm by this point. “They probably are perfect. His hand-crafted biological children.”
"I don't know the whole story, Grivy, so I'm a bit in the dark too. Though Kahli kept this secret from me, he shouldn't be cruel to you either." Zizi sighed and then told the girl. "I love my children, but all of them have their flaws. Manaco is too impatient like his father. Ahusaka is a perfectionist. Keira hates last minute surprises... I could go on. But I do know he loves them."
“I’m one of 660 clones more or less. I’m supposed to be raised as a soldier for the Grand army of the Kikai Empire... they sound like people who received individual care.”
"... it figures Zannah was trying to formulate a plan to increase her army. She's obsessed with power." Zizi felt her temper flare, cause the table to begin to sprout thorns. "That... that bitch manipulating my husband..."
The girl rested her fork on the table, silent for a long time. “The Emperor is God to the Hasai. To oppose her will is nigh impossible. I like to fight, I like adventure, but to be an iron clad soldier? I wanted my personal freedom. To be a warrior for my own battles. I’m one of the only Waku to think this way though. I might be the only one.”
"She's a damn mortal, don't believe her lies. If she bleeds, she can die. The true immortals are in the heavens. To try to copy their design is blasphemy." Zizi told Grivy firmly. "She might be the ruler of the Hasai Empire, but she's just that. Another ass on a throne. To treat her own people as nothing more than pawns for her benefit is abuse." She held Grivy's hand. "Even if you are the only one who thinks this way, you are allowed to think this way. You are your own person. You decide what you want. Not someone else." Zizi took a breath and then added, "And until you decide what you want for your life, you are welcome to stay here."
Grievous didn’t know what to think at first to that. While formulating an answer, her attention was grasped by something. Grabbing a knife, she hid behind a couch. “Someone is coming. Hide.”
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait just a minute, that's probably just one of my kids!!!" Zizi hurried after Grivy. "They all know how to get into the---"
"Mom?" Keira walked in, seeing her mother hovering over a stranger. "... what are you doing?"
“You can’t take me back!” All Grievous saw was another Waku ready to take her to the Empire. With a roar like a panther she leapt to pin Keira.
"WAIT!" Zizi grasped Grievous by the tail and ended up sailing forward with the stranger. It was the maternal instinct to protect her own child, but the forethought of not harming Grivy either. Keira yelped and managed to jump out of the way. Yet the tail grab resulted in Grivy and Zizi both ending up on the floor. Zizi fell on top of Grivy, and Grivy's face met the floor. Muffled by the girl's back, Zizi grumbled, "I said to wait. Some of my kids live here too besides me, you know. I'm not that old."
"Uh... Mom? Are you okay?" Keria helped her mother to her feet as well as the stranger. She then sniffed Grievous and looked perplexed. "You smell... familiar. Have we met?"
"... sweetie... let's just say you're in for a long story." Zizi told her daughter with a sigh. "And your dad is in the doghouse."
Grievous gave out a shrill scream as her tail was yanked, not exactly thrilled to eat the floor again. Getting up, she locked eyes with Keira, slowly backing away. This woman was much older. She must have been a threat.
"What did Dad do this time?" Keira thought it was one of the usual nuisances that made her mother mad. "Did he eat all your ingredients for a strawberry cake again?"
"No, he..." Zizi had to swallow her emotions again. "Keira. This is Grievous. Your sister."
"...? Huh?" Keira really looked confused now. "Sister? But... how can that be? The bond prevents Dad from---"
"Zannah made him give... donations from what Grivy told me."
"...?!?! What?! But she's... that had to be years ago!"
"I know. And he didn't tell me or anyone else."
Grievous stepped away from Keira a little further. “Are you the eldest daughter of Kahli?”
"I am..." Keira was still processing the situation. Her father had other children out there. Exactly how many? Why did he let this happen? Oh, spirits, how was Manaco going to take this? This was... was bad. Very bad. "I have nine sisters and five brothers. I... um..." She was more like Zizi in the sense of viewing this was not Grivy's fault. The newcomer did not ask to be placed in this situation. "I guess... it's not too bad to have another sister. We already outnumber the boys, so... that's a good thing." She then paused and thought for a moment before asking. "What did Dad think of this?"
"I don't care what he thinks," Zizi returned to her seat at the dining table. "I put him in the hospital so he's going to stay there for a little while."
"The hospital?! Mom, what did you do?"
"What do you think I did?" Zizi retorted as if it was obvious. "I kicked his ass for lying to me."
"... I don't know what to say." Now, Keira really appeared to be shocked. Her mother did not have a violent bone in her body. She hardly ever raised her voice even, but here, she was admitting to attacking her dad?! "Is he... dead?"
"No, he's not dead, but he's going to wish he was if he comes crawling back here." Zizi told her daughter. "If you go to see him, he's not welcome here anymore. He can stay with Manaco if he wishes."
"... you're not going to talk to him?"
"Not right now. I lashed out... and you know a Zemlja can be deadly if we wish it so."
"I know, Mom... I just... I can't believe Dad did such a thing."
"You know how many times Zannah called him and he followed like a puppy."
“No one can defy the will of the Emperor.” Grievous immediately reflected, knowing the hypocrisy of that statement. “Not for long...” Looking back to Keira, the teenager started to tiptoe around her. “You are the eldest of our generation then. Chief female... you look soft.”
"The Emperor can kiss my shiny brown ass."
"Mom!"
"I was a good friend to her, Keira, you know it, and she was laughing behind my back all this time."
"We'll figure this out eventually." Keira then jolted when Grievous started to circle her, as a predator would a prey. "Soft? I... um... is that a compliment or an insult? I assure you, I can fight, Dad taught me how. I'm a Vatra, though Urboro and Miku are both Zemljas."
“Vatra?” Grievous was nearly to the door, still eying Keira like the older woman was going to snap her in two.
"I use fire. Mom uses earth." Keria explained to Grievous with a smile. "It's a Lorleidian trait! Come, I'll show you what I mean." And, like Zizi, Keira was the bubbliest of her siblings. She also had that sixth sense about others. While Keira could tell that Grivy was hurt, confused, and angry, she was also afraid. That had to be redeemed. She simply took Grievous' hand and walked out the front door. "Mom, I'll be back with Grivy in a bit, I'm going to show her the community. Then, she won't be too afraid."
"Very well, make sure you don't stay out too late. Your younger siblings will be home from school soon enough, and you promised to take them dragon riding today." Zizi was starting to thank the spirits for everyday normalcy. At least it kept her mind off this... this betrayal. "And don't tell them about your father. I'll explain it to them myself later."
"As you say."
Grievous was shocked, being so quickly pulled along. “Where are you taking me? I am not afraid.”
"To the plantations! Every single type of Lorleidian works there, as well as some Hylians, Gorons, Moblins, Goblins, a few Hasai, and even dragons!" Keira knew she had to make the best of the situation. While her mother was hurting, and she herself was upset, she had to remain strong. Not only for her mother, but for her siblings too. "I'll introduce you and you can see how we work."
“You said you’d show me your fire.” Grievous had enough, pulling away to stand her ground. “I see no strategy in getting to see your plantation.”
"I figured you'd want to meet a few more of your siblings and see our close knit community." Keira shrugged her shoulders. "It'd be fun. We can always stop by the Lon-Lon Ranch for ice cream! They just introduced a new flavor called blackberry lemonade! I can't wait to try it!" She then added, "But my fire isn't like my father's fire... well, not exactly." She held out her hand and a flame flickered to life in her palm. "Since I'm half Lorleidian, my magic is a little more stable."
“I... no. No! I did come here to meet a family I do not know.” The teenager felt dreadfully confused, knowing she was losing track of her purpose. She pointed her finger at Keira’s flame. “And do all of you lack passion in your flame?”
"Why not? They'd want to meet you." Keira told Grivy honestly, having no reason to lie. "That's how Lorleidians are. We take care of our own and those we call family and friends." She glanced at her flame and then back at Grivy. "Passion? Oh, I can do a lot more than this, I just didn't want to show off. My brothers do that enough."
“You are not proud of your fire? You are not proud of the flame that burns within? I am Grievous! Waku of Hasai and Dal combined.” The teenager felt her time was being wasted with her half-sister. She wanted her to see with her own eyes that this younger woman could be taken seriously. With each hand, Grievous lit a blazing bone fire in each hand. In the right, a green flame. The left, a blue flame. With a little dance, she brought both hands together to fire lightning into the air, making an explosion of fireworks of blue and green. “Look and feel my passion. You will take me seriously, or you can step down as eldest to Kahli. I do not care for your cream made of ice. I will not be tricked. Now I demand you reply in kind.”
"Goodness, you don't know how to just... chill, do you? Or even have fun?" Keira felt sorry for the girl. Knowing Zannah, this half-sister of hers was raised to be nothing but a solider. "You don't get it, do you? Rank? Being the best? That's not what gets attention here. What gets attention here isn't passion or fighting or even having the most power. Here, we simply love each other for who we what. Not what we can do." Keira gently took Grivy's hands, and then closed her eyes. There was suddenly a ring of fire surrounding them and circled higher and higher, toward the sky. The two of them were standing inside a vortex of flames. She then opened her eyes, glowing a soft yellow. "I have passion, like you asked. Though here, there's no need to use such unless we are protecting who we love."
Grievous looked up, her yellow eyes wide with wonder. She didn’t look away for a moment, wanting to capture it in her mind forever. “Passion is not tied to battle. Or ranks. It’s not wanting to be the best. Passion is wanting to do your best. Passion is being the most serious about your abilities and drive. Passion is your art form. Keira. You have a dazzling fire. I truly believe you are my blood.”
Slowly, the vortex started to sink to the ground and disappear.
"Then I have plenty of passion. Though, I'm more like my mother in the sense of fighting; I don't like to fight unless I have to." Keira explained to Grievous. "You shouldn't have to fight unless you want to as well. You're not a pawn, you're just you. You're special just the way you are." She then sighed and said, "And I'm really sorry for... well... all of this. I had no idea. My mother didn't either. I think... we're all pawns in Zannah's game somehow. But now, that you're here, you can stay with us for a while if you don't want to return to the Empire."
“In my experience, to fight is to battle. To battle is to throw your all into a cause. The Empire is highly restrictive on who you can battle against. It is not my own battles I fight for, but the Empires. That is why I risked deserting my platoon. It is why I came here, to seek answers on my bloodline. I seek to battle our father if we must.” The teenager examined Keira up and down, wondering if she could take her in a skirmish. “Do you like to spar? Still an activity of strength, yet does not have the same stress of battle? How about to fish or hunt wild game?”
"Oh, my siblings and I spar almost everyday. I'm not big on fishing, cause ew, worms. But I do go hunting." Keira told Grivy with a grin. "Dad insists, but I'm curious. Why do you want to fight my---I mean, our father?"
“I want him to feel the sting of defeat. He is a legendary whisper amongst the Waku. I wish to test if he’s a legend, or merely a whisper.” Grievous squeezed her right hand into a righteous fist. “I would make him proven wrong to look down on me.”
"Uh... how did he do that?" Keira wanted clarification. "Look down on you? Wait, did he come to like... see you, years ago or something? Or no? Sorry, I don't have all the details."
“He must have. We’ve never met him. Some of us never had any father figures. He claimed we are not his children. Yet he had love for you, didn’t he? What makes you so different?” The look Grievous gave Keira was burn in her eyes. There was a great hatred, but also a terrible pain.
"... my mother." Keira admitted to Grievous with a small frown. "His love for my mother makes him love me since I am part of her. But... even though I love my father, he shouldn't deny you just to try to appease my mother. That's not right."
Grievous kicked the dirt, turning her back on Keira. “Her? That little woman? What’s so great about her? The fact she can nearly obliterated him in one magical torrent, while I am thrown out like trash in my first interaction with the man?”
"... the fact that she loved him when no one else would." Keira said very softly. "Dad didn't have... the greatest of upbringings. He has his faults and flaws, though... Mom saw past that and chose to love the man. Not the Hasai."
“What is so wrong with being Hasai?” The tone Grievous spoke was not one of being offended, but in fact as if she knew the answer. “Is he a good father to you?”
"... I think you know, Grivy. You see how Zannah treats you, what she did to our Dad." Keira then nodded her head. "He was very good to me. Never laid a hand on me. Taught me right from wrong. To try to see the good in others even though we might not care for them. And to always be there for each other. He wanted a family because he never had one growing up where he felt loved."
The Waku’s tail wagged aggressively about, not liking the story of hearing Kahli be so loved, and loving in return. “I don’t belong with the rest of you then.”
"Why not? What makes you so sure?" Keira used logic. "Dad thought he didn't have a place here. Mom proved him wrong."
“You think I can prove Kahli wrong? He broke my nose!” She pointed at her still bruised face.
"... my aunt proved her husband wrong. He broke her ribs and she busted his nose." Keira pulled Grivy in for a hug. "And so what if you can't prove him wrong? You proved me right. Wait, that came out... feh, you know what I mean."
When Grievous was hugged, she heated up with the force of a radiator. “What is this? Pity? You hug me because you’re older and feel sad for me?”
"No, I hug you cause well... you look like you've never been hugged. Like a real hug." The heat did not bother Keira. She could absorb it and store the magic later. "Why would I feel sorry for you? You're obvious still here. You didn't give up."
“I don’t know what to make of you.” Grievous broke free from the hug, opting to sit on a park bench. “I’ve decided to wait here for Kahli. I care not for your ice flavoured cream.”
"Good, I like to keep people guessing." Keira then asked. "Are you sure? I was going to introduce you to your other brothers and sisters."
“No. I don’t want to meet them. I don’t care about you. I don’t care about any other children. I just want to fight Kahli and force him to answer all my burning questions. Now go away.” Grievous closed her eyes tightly, trying to push her growing frustrations away.
"... if you need a familiar face, I'll be in Greenhouse #9." Keira decided not to push Grivy further and headed in the right direction for work.

Red vs. Blue: Where do We Go from Here?
Recently Youtube creator EruptionFang put out a video regarding which direction he believes Red vs. Blue should go in the upcoming seasons (video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6DJmrCI84g).  In his video he postulates that while he doesn’t think the show should end, maybe it’s time to retire the Reds and the Blues, at least temporarily.
Now, this is an interesting idea.  The Red vs. Blue universe (Red vs. Blu-nerverse?) has no shortage of characters that the series could shift its focus to and there’s no denying that the fan base does have a certain affinity for the Chorus Lieutenants, the Freelancers…hell, people have been chomping at the bit to see Junior again for the last ten years.  But do any of these characters, or groups of characters have what it takes to carry a season’s story on their own?  Would Red vs. Blue be the same without the Reds and the Blues?
Of course, it wouldn’t. The reason those of us still watching the series keep coming back is for the current cast of characters.  People went nuts when Donut, after nineteen seasons, was finally given his own story line, and one (despite its flaws) was actually entertaining and interesting to watch and actually progressed the character forward beyond Guy Who Makes Inappropriate Innuendos.  There are fans who would love to see the same be done for other characters still who haven’t received the Spotlight Treatment.  Honestly, after Season 17, I believe that very well could be a possibility and there is a part of me that is looking forward to those types of stories.
All that being said, however, I do think there is something to the idea of a possible spin off series, which EruptionFang also briefly touched on.  I think the best way to test those waters is to revisit the Season 14 idea of an anthology season.  Now, I’m not going to argue that Season 14 was not a great season.  I fact, if I were to rank the seasons, Season 14 would fall somewhere near the bottom.  The reason for this isn’t necessarily the idea of a season made up of differing stories, but the type of stories that were used for the season.  Of the seasons 24 episodes, the only ones I really remember are the ones in which Captain Butch “Florida” Flowers recruits the team to Blood Gulch, Felix and Locus’s backstory and the Triplets.  Why are these the episodes I remember?  Because they were “canon” episodes that actually expanded on the universe.  They took characters we were already familiar with (or in the case of the Triplets, a set up and time frame that we were already familiar with, i.e. the Freelancers) and used them to explore a different aspect of the universe and/or introduce new ideas and information concerning to their individual stories.
I think doing another season in which we had stories like these would be a good way to gauge interest in possible spin off series, or even give writers the chance to take a break from the normal RvB writing and play more to their strengths, or even experiment a little.  This anthology season would have three to four stories that would span three to four episodes each.  Each story could focus on a character or set of characters.  For example, we could have a story focusing on the Freelancers during a mission (which we were semi teased with in Season 14’s trailer but never got), a story about Vanessa Kimball and/or the Lieutenants adjusting to a newly unified Chorus and what that means to and for them, and a follow-up story about Felix and Locus showing how they went from bounty hunters to mercenaries.  There is quite a bit to explore in each of these ideas.  Hell, I’ve read plenty of fan fics about the Freelancers during missions that I actually think would make for interesting episode plots.  And if there’s some hesitation about completely leaving the Reds and Blues out of the picture, do another shorter story about one or two of them.  A Grif and Kai story could be interesting and provide an opportunity to let yet another member of the BGC a chance at development.
There is an amount of risk here, there’s no doubt.  A season consisting of only a handful of short stories focused on “side characters” could be disastrous if even only one of those stories is a bomb.  Long time fans may feel abandoned by suddenly not seeing their favorite red and blue soldiers stumbling through another set of misadventures. However, I believe that instead of introducing completely new characters and using established and well liked characters to expand the universe and explore ideas that have been introduced. Season 14 tried, and ultimately failed, to do this, but I still think it’s an idea worth some attention, especially now that the latest arc has wrapped and fans are left wondering what, where and if there is anything left the show has to offer.

Session Recap 6/1/19: Knife to Meat You
Squall gave the party a list of potential individuals to contact in their investigation -- either because they might have information, or might be suspects. It named a rival merchant named Banquin Andriolo, who dealt in swords of lower quality and envied Quest her success, as well as a former customer named Renya Fountenay who had knowingly bought a cursed blade and been angry when she hadn’t been able to break the enchantment herself.  Squall also made reference to a Watch officer named Poppy Longmarch who had disapproved of their business.
She also gave them a loose timeline of her time in the city since Quest disappeared. She’d last seen her on the 7th of Blomhath (the current month). On the 9th, too ill to keep searching herself, she hired a private investigator named Eckjeth Siek by printing an ad in the city’s proclamation sheets. On the 15th she’d had her altercation at the watchhouse and also fended off the first attack at her old lodgings, an inn called the Dove’s Tail. A second attack occurred just a day later, on the 16th of Blomhath, led by what seemed to be the same mercenaries even after she’d moved to a new room. The final attack, with the constructs, had come the night of the 18th -- right before the party arrived -- and prompted her to move across the city even in violation of curfew in order to seek safety.
As Squall spoke of the attacks, Voski reached out to offer her a Cure Wounds spell. The aarakocra accepted and used her talons to unwrap her bandage. She explained that she had seen constructs like the smaller spider-like one that had entered her room around the city before. They were typically used to deliver messages or do small tasks that individuals wanted to keep discreet, so that they could deny being present if put under the effects of a Truth spell. Apparently there were rumors they were starting to take on more sinister work.
She also explained that in the wake of the Abyssal breach, the marketplace was currently in ruins. Apparently it had broken through on the 31st of Plomés (the month before last), preceded by a plague of laughter, which had caused people to collapse in the street before it gave way to the monsters below. In the days since, the city had struggled to purge demons from its streets, and the weather had been strange and cursed, with sporadic rains of blood and acid and insects falling thickly from the sky. Quest and Squall had only come to the city because of the particular sale with her old client Winstanus, and had intended to make this a short stay. When asked if she thought there was anything else important, Squall insisted that Quest should have had more than enough time to return to the inn before curfew.
Before the party left, Squall asked the party not to use her name in public or to let anyone know where she was staying. The party discussed their own options for lodgings, but the three who’d been to the city before didn’t have any ideas. Ditto mentioned the place she’d stayed before was too small for all of them, Erwyn didn’t have any ideas at all, and Voski said the places she’d stayed before would be “too expensive.” They decided to ask Kenska if she knew of anywhere that was still somewhat secure, and she recommended the Fox and Hellhound, which was located across the city on Keeper’s Row and was far from the site of the incursion.
Leaving the poorer part of town, the party passed through the open part of the city that was currently filled with temporary structures, alongside walls that had been erected around the exclusion zone. There was standing water -- likely from the river, which had burst its banks -- near the elephant statue that Ditto had mentioned, which was decorated with eye and wing motifs. A crack in the ground stretched towards it, but seemingly stopped at the statue itself, which was a little lopsided but in one piece. A temporary watchhouse stood nearby, with people who seemed to be workers and clerics going in and out.
From there they headed towards the north wall of the city, where it was evident that the craftsman’s corridor had been hit hard by the Abyssal breach. The entirety of Bread Row, the area the bakers were concentrated in, fell behind the exclusion wall, along with portions of the arcanists’ shops on Mage’s Row, the tailors on Needle Row, and the blacksmiths and armorers on Blood Row.
The Fox & Hellhound itself did prove to be fairly sturdy-looking for an inn. Inside, the party was greeted by a goliath man named Ben in a nice waistcoat, who had tattoos of little tankards of ale and other things that spoke to his experience as a tavern owner. They paid for two adjacent rooms for a week, plus meals, which cost seventeen gold that Ditto covered herself without second thought. Voski--still introducing herself as Kasia--asked about security measures in the inn, under the guise of hoping for privacy while workshopping some performing material in the room. Ben replied that the inn had a contract with some magic users who could place a Silence spell and other protective wards around the room for an additional fee.
The quality of the rooms turned out to be surprisingly nice. On getting inside, Kriv opened up the demiplane so that Ditto could stow Mynskay away. Erwyn also placed the Abyssal scroll they’d picked up from the Morkorth’s lair inside to keep it hidden away. Before the party headed out, Voski touched up some of her makeup, adding a slightly different sheen to her scales -- apparently, Kasia was a gold dragonborn.
“You look very shiny!” Ditto commented.
“I always do, but thank you,” Kasia replied.
The party headed out to see Linda the butcher, passing through some of the weapon-seller stalls on Blood Row on the way in the hopes of finding Banquin Andriolo. However, it turned out that the exclusion zone cut through the address Squall had given them, and whatever remained of Banquin’s stall was behind the wall on the side where the portal had formed.
As the party passed through the center of town again, they saw a strange little creature hanging around the market that at first looked something like a pigeon, but revealed itself to be a quasit with more bat-like wings and little hands. It snatched a roll from a haggard-looking person selling them, then spat ice at her when she tried to shoo it. Kriv kicked the quasit and it cursed at him in Abyssal, prompting him to let lightning gather around his teeth until it skittered away.
“More of us are coming,” it chittered in Abyssal, so only Erwyn understood it. “You won’t dare kick us then!”
The shopkeeper thanked Kriv and offered him a roll, before mentioning that there was a bounty for dead demons at the watch house. The watch offered payment for anyone bringing in demonic remains (or, it the body dissolved before it could be brought in as proof, for submitting to a truth spell and testifying to killing one). She also mentioned that there were some anti-demon people who had been called in to help deal with the situation, who wore patches with a symbol of a double-headed ouroboros and a dagger on them. Erwyn seemed nervous at their mention. Voski thanked the woman and purchased a loaf from her, tipping a couple extra copper.
Linda the butcher’s shop was easy to find once they reached the Butcher’s Quarter. Inside, there was a smaller amount of stock on display than in many stores, though it did seem to be kept chilled by cold spells. Linda herself was a shortish (for her race) orc woman with buzzed hair and mithril caps on her tusks. She seemed to be mostly a specialty butcher. Voski asked if she had any bones to sell, saying she was thinking of making a stock. This confused Erwyn greatly, who didn’t realize she actually intended to buy them for Squall, until Voski explained when Linda went to fetch them. The orc reappeared a moment later with a nice assortment and she selected some wyvern bones. She tipped an extra silver piece.
Ditto described Quest to Linda and asked if she’d seen her. The orc woman seemed hesitant to disclose anything, as customer privacy was important to her, but Ditto explained they were just trying to help find her. Linda said she’d had a couple people come talk to her about Quest already. She mentioned a half-elf, likely the private investigator, Eckjeth, though she’d mostly just tried to sell her some junk before leaving. She confirmed that Quest had come in the night of the 7th, cheerful and joking. The two of them had talked a little about the sword at the guildhouse before she went on her way, nothing seeming all that suspicious. She’d had to stay at her own shop close to curfew to help out another customer with limited hours they could visit, so she hadn’t seen Quest after that. Linda said that the other person who’d come and asked about quest was a half-orc watch officer, named Marrash, who she’d never seen before but who didn’t seem to be taking the investigation super seriously.
Erwyn asked Linda a little more about the sword at the guildhouse, and she said that it apparently spoke psychically to those who tried to handle it, though it seemed dissatisfied with any so far who presented themselves as its wielder and would burn their hands when they tried. Apparently it had been discovered by a lizardfolk priest down at the Low Temple, who had started having visions that lead her to a tomb. The sword had been moved to the guildhouse for safekeeping, and would be brought to the upcoming Guildhall Gala.
Voski asked a little more about the private investigator and what she’d tried to sell when she’d stopped by. Apparently they were small tinctures of some kind, which she’d claimed were magical as well as a great business opportunity. Linda also said it had been hard to get her to leave.
The party then started to head towards the Guildhouse, which was nearby, to continue their investigation. Amaranth kept her eyes open for beggar’s marks on the way, noting symbols for “magical defenses” and “off-limits” outside Linda’s shop, as well as several for “good for handouts” and the symbol for “kind owner” outside of another one in the Quarter whose sign was just a picture of a big knife. She also noticed many symbols in the shape of a black triangle with three eyes inside of it, many quickly drawn and scattered all throughout the city. One even seemed to be half-carved into a wall. She asked Ditto if she recognized them, but the gnome didn’t know what they were. Kriv asked Ditto if he could have the Rhymer’s Ring at that point and started to attune to it.
Inside the main hall of the Guildhouse there was a fancy cage with a smug-looking rooster inside, the remnants of a large candle (the “timepiece” used to keep the hours of Candling, Wick’s End, and Cock’s Crow in the city), and the supposedly divine longsword they’d been hearing about. It was covered in feather motifs and had a crossguard shaped like wings, with large gems shaped like eyes in the hilt and pommel. Even without a detection spell, it felt super magical.
Amaranth went and tried to poke at the rooster through the bars of its cage and it started puffing up at her, making angry chicken noises before pecking her finger. A nearby guard asked her to please not bother the rooster, whose name was apparently Roderick III. She pressed him with questions about the bird, trying her best to act interested in the answers, and gestured for the others to snoop around as she provided a distraction. Voski sauntered over and asked a different guard about the sword and was told a similar story to what the party had heard thus far, with the added information that when discovered it had asked to be brought out into the light to bring order and truth to the city.
Kriv eventually joined Voski and asked about the tomb as well. Apparently it was now cordoned off, but at the time of its excavation the sword had been found lying atop a sarcophagus inside. The cleric who’d had the visions leading them to it was apparently not a follower of any specific deity, and more devoted to the general concepts of gods, good, and order. Voski asked the guard if she’d tried to take hold of the sword herself and the guard said no.
While talking about the state of the city, the guard mentioned that they knew there had been some meeting from people outside of the city over philanthropic efforts to help with finances during reconstruction. In particular they spoke of a goliath woman accompanied by a large construct, veined with gold, who had been to the guildhouse several times for meetings with some of the guildmasters as well as the mayor and Watch. Apparently once she’d come specifically to see the sword and had looked at it for a few moments, laughed, and then gone about her business. In parting, Kriv asked the guard’s name, which turned out to be Clouden Greaves.
As the group left the Guildhall, Ditto mentioned that she was interested in checking in on someone she’d known when she lived in the city before, who had a shop in the Butcher’s Quarter. She lead them to the shop with the sign that bore the insignia of a large knife. Inside at the counter was a large, mechanical construct with a bladed hand, cutting meat. When he turned his face to look at Ditto, he stopped and unscrewed his meat cleaver to replace it with a hand attachment. She greeted him enthusiastically, visibly excited to see him, and said she was glad to see that he was okay. While he spoke in a monotone voice, it was clear he was glad to see her as well, and he asked if she’d acquired more names since they last spoke.
Ditto turned to the party and introduced her friend as Knife, telling him the rest of their names -- before pausing at Voski, who again gave her own as Kasia.
“That’s a rad name!” Amaranth said to Knife.
“Thank you. My creator gave it to me before he died,” Knife said, before adding, “I was not involved.”
“So, how did you two meat?” Voski asked. “Get it?”
Though Knife’s face was an expressionless mask, it was clear he had a sense of humor, and a series of monotone laughs followed.
“Kasia, you are very funny.” he said.
“I am,” she replied.
Knife explained that Ditto and her friend used to come through and he would give them meat, though he would pretend that they were stealing from him because it made them feel better. He told Ditto that he had something for her. He said the person who had entrusted it to him had said she would lay many curses on him if he didn’t get it to Ditto, and while he didn’t think she had that power, he felt for many reasons that he should fulfill the duty.
Reaching into an area reserved for storage, Knife pulled out two old packages and gave them to Ditto, saying he had been told that, unlike other humanoids, goblins didn’t like to be interred with items of sentimental value, but preferred that they be given to others as marks of their importance. He added that the one who’d given him the packages had also said to tell Ditto that she didn’t blame her for leaving, though she probably wouldn’t believe it. The gnome started to tear up, and Knife patted her shoulder comfortingly.

Clan Purcell Timeline
1000 BBY:
The Old Republic is dismantled and the Galactic Republic is created in its place.
522 BBY:
The Citadel is created to house rogue Jedi, in order to prevent an future uprisings like the Hundred Year Darkness.
Tumblr media
49 BBY:
Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidious are the latest Sith in Darth Bane's lineage following the rule of two.
48 BBY:
After learning everything he can from his Master, Darth Plagueis, Sidious kills him in his sleep.
47 BBY:
Darth Sidious is publicly known as Senator Sheev Palpatine of Naboo. His end goal is to manufacture a conflict big enough to throw the Republic into chaos and seize political power for himself.
45 BBY:
Sidious meets Mother Talzin and takes her son, Maul as his apprentice.
44 BBY:
Together Sidious and Maul travel to the Sith temple on Malachor where Maul learns the history of the Sith and is instilled with an intense hatred and desire for the destruction of the Jedi.
41 BBY:
Shmi Skywalker gives birth to a fatherless son she names "Anakin" who is conceived purely by the will of the Cosmic Force.
38 BBY:
When Anakin is three, he and his mother become the property of the junk dealer Watto  on the remote desert world, Tatooine.
37 BBY:
The Mandalorian people experience Civil War as the Duchess Satine Kryze tries to shift their culture from that of conqerors to pacifists. The terrorist group know as Death Watch wants to assassinate the Duchess, so Jedi Master Qui Gon Jinn and his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi are tasked with her protection.
Tumblr media
36 BBY:
They are on the run for a year and Obi-Wan and Satine develop feelings for each other, but when the war comes to an end, the Duchess returns to Mandalore to lead her now pacifist people, and Obi-Wan continues his Jedi Training.
35 BBY:
A Jedi Master named Syfo Dias has visions of an upcoming conflict and attempts to warn the Galactic Republic. He Is dismissed as a warmonger and is removed from the Jedi Council. He takes matters into his own hands by commissioning the Kaminoans to create a Clone Army for the Republic, which captures the attention of Sidious.
Tumblr media
33 BBY:
Maul grows impatient of his Master's plans and secrecy and seeks to test his power against a Jedi Padawan known as Eldra Kaitis. He kills her, much to his masters delight.
32 BBY: Sidious begins the first phase of his Master plan by engineering a blockade of his home planet. Qui Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi are sent to end the dispute. They rescue the planet's ruler, Queen Padme Amidala and are forced to retreat to Tatooine where they meet Anakin Skywalker. Recognising his immense yet untrained potential in the force, Qui Gon arranges for Anakin's freedom and takes him back to Coruscant. The Galactic Republic's inability to settle the matter on Naboo reveals the ineffectiveness of the Senate and allows Palpatine to not only vote the Supreme Chancellor out of office, but also seize power for himself. Qui Gon, Obi-Wan, Anakin and Padme return to Naboo to remove the blockade by force. Maul confronts then and cuts down Qui Gon before being dealt a mortal wound himself. Anakin is admitted to the Jedi Order as the Padawan of Obi-Wan. Despite the loss of Maul and the end of the blockade, Palpatine achieved his goal and sets his eyes on Anakin as his replacement, but in the meantime settles for a former jaded Jedi, Dooku.
30 BBY:
Sidious and Dooku arrange for the death of Sifo Dias and secretly take control of the clone army he commissioned.
29 BBY:
Anakin trains with Obi-Wan for three years proving to be incredibly powerful. He falls under the mentorship of the supreme Chancellor, who encourages the boys thought that the Jedi Order are not what he expected.
22 BBY:
Ten years after the blockade of Naboo, Dooku leads a number of star systems in succeeding to the Republic, beginning the conflict that was foreseen by Sifo Dias. The republic Senate is hesitant to create an army. Dooku orders the assassination of Padme Amidala who is a staunch opponent to militarization of the Republic. The assassination fails, Anakin is tasked with her protection and the two fall in love. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan hunts the would be assassins and discovers the Clone Army on Kamino. Fearing they have no other choice, the Senate grants the chancellor emergency powers, gives the Jedi Order command of the clones, and the Clone War begins. Anakin secretly marries Padme, rises to the rank of Jedi Knight and is assigned a Padawan named Ahsoka.
21 BBY:
The Republic discovers plans for a new super weapon in the hands of the Separatists. Palpatine manipulates a small group of scientists and engineers into creating the weapon for themselves, but the super laser proves to be a challenging breakthrough. Dooku takes an apprentice of his own, a Night Sister names Asajj Ventress. Sidious grows wary of ventresses strength and commands that she be killed as a test of Dooku's loyalty. She escapes the attempt on her life and becomes a bounty hunter. Anakin and Ahsoka grow close, but they both see the less noble side of the Jedi when Ahsoka is wrongly accused of murder and kicked out of the order. Anakin clears her name, and she is invited back, but feeling betrayed by those she respected most, she decides to leave.
Tumblr media
20 BBY: Anakin's trust in the Jedi Order is weakened. The true murderer is arrested and announces her belief that the Jedi have lost their way by openly serving in the clone wars. A young Jedi named Caleb Doom begins training under his Master Depa Billaba after thwarting a terrorist attack on the Jedi temple together. The Jedi decide that the quickest way to end the clone wars would be the assassination of Count Dooku. In the midst of a battle, a Clone murders one of his Jedi Generals. An investigation reveals the presence of an inhibitor chip placed on the minds of all clone soldiers. Only two clones learn the whole truth. One is killed by his clone brothers, and the other and the other is captured and placed on stasis aboard a separatist cruiser that becomes lost in hyperspace. However, later on a number of clones learn the truth for themselves, prompting them to remove their inhibitor chips.
19 BBY:
Maul, after surviving his fatal injury on Naboo takes control of Mandalore and the Mandalorian Death Watch. He kills Duchess Satine in front of Obi-Wan as revenge. Maul's actions catch the attention of his former Master who sees him as a potential rival. He puts an end to him by chasing him throughout the galaxy and diminishing his power. And killing his mother Talzin. He takes his few followers back to Mandalore. There he is met in combat by a joint force of Mandalorians and Clones led by Ahsoka. He Is defeated and goes into hiding. As the siege of Mandalore begins, war comes to Coruscant for the first time in one thousand years. Anakin confronts and kills Count Dooku, again leaving Sidious without an apprentice. Padme becomes pregnant with Anakin's child and he begins to have visions of her death. Desperate to save her, he seeks advice from Palpatine who not only reveals he is a Sith Lord, but that he has the power to save Padme. Anakin joins Sidious and takes up the name Darth Vader for a chance to save his wife. He betrays the Jedi Order, kills Mace Windu, and leads an attack on the Jedi Temple. Simultaneously, Palpatine issues a command to all clones that triggers their chips, forcing them to kill the Jedi. Within moments, most of the Jedi Order is destroyed. Anakin is then sent to Mustafar to assassinate the remaining members of the Confederacy of Independant Systems. With their deaths, the Clone Wars come to an end. Having no one left to oppose him, Palpatine transitions the Republic into the first Galactic Empire and proclaims himself emperor of the galaxy. Caleb, Ahsoka, Yoda and Obi-Wan survive  the Great Jedi Purge and the initial attack on the Jedi Order. Yoda confronts Sidious while Obi-Wan confronts Anakin. Yoda is defeated and goes into exile on the planet Dagobah. Anakin is dismembered and badly burned, but left clinging to life by Obi-Wan. Padme dies giving birth to twins she names Luke and Leia. Leia is hidden with Senator Bail Organa of Alderaan. And Obi-Wan takes Luke to his Aunt and Uncle on Anakin's home planet Tatooine. Sidious informs Darth Vader that his wife and children are dead and he is forced to wear a bio-mechanical suit in order to survive, and he takes up his position as apprentice to Darth Sidious. He Is then placed in charge of the Empire's "Jedi Killers" known as the inquisitorious, which is made up of fallen Jedi. They are tasked with hunting and killing any Jedi that survived the Great Jedi Purge. The Super Weapon known as the Death Star continues its construction and the brilliant scientist known as Galen Erso is manipulated into designing the laser.
18 BBY:
Caleb is forced to abandon the ways of the Jedi in order to remain hidden. He changes his name to Kanan Jarrus. Ahsoka hides in the outer rim for a year until she discovers Bail Organa. They join forces to help systems that have fallen under the oppression of the Empire, and she takes up the codename Fulcrum.
Tumblr media
17 BBY:
Galen Erso discovers he is creating a weapon of terrible power for the Empire and escapes to the outer rim with the aid of a rebel and Clone Wars veteran named Saw Gerrera.
14 BBY:
Darth Vader and his inquisitors continue their hunt for remaining Jedi for the next five years. An alien and tactical genius named Thrawn is discovered on the edges of the unknown regions. He Is taken before the Emperor who is so impressed with the man he is admitted to the Imperial Navy.
Tumblr media
9 BBY:
BASE YEAR. PLEASE IGNORE.

Ezra learns that he has abilities in the force and Kanan decides to train him. During that time they discover and visit a Jedi temple on Lothal.
Tumblr media
3 BBY:
Leia Organa becomes a junior legislator of the Imperial Senate and learns that both her adoptive parents are members of an insurgency against the Empire. She begins helping them secretly support the Rebellion and even helps the Ghost Crew on Lothal. Kanan, Ezra and the rest of their crew cause enough problems for the Empire that Darth Vader himself is sent to hunt them down. Ahsoka also joins their crew when their small cell joins the larger growing Rebellion. The three travel to Malachor hoping to find a way to defeat the Sith. There they find Maul who had returned to the planet and he attempts to pull Ezra to the Dark Side before blinding Kanan and retreating. Darth Vader finds them at the Sith temple and confronts Ahsoka, who fights him long enough to allow Ezra and Kanan to escape with a Sith holocron.
2 BBY:
Senator Mon Mothma publicly denounces Emperor Palpatine and rallies the rebel cells into a unified movement. As their organization continues to grow, Thrawn who has risen to the rank of Grand Admiral is tasked with the destruction of Kanan and Hera's specific cell. Maul re-appears and uses the Sith holocron and Ezra to determine that Obi-Wan is still alive. Maul hunts down the old master but is killed by him for good. The Grand Admiral also develops a new type of star fighter, the TIE Defender, Which begins construction on Lothal. The Ghost Crew go back to Lothal to destroy the factory and liberate the planet. They are successful in the destruction of the factory, but Kanan is killed in the process.
Tumblr media
1 BBY: Ezra returns to the Jedi temple on Lothal to investigate Imperial activity there. He finds a portal to a mysterious place know as the world between worlds that exists outside of space and time. He Is able to see Ahsoka's duel with Darth Vader on Malachor, and save her from almost certain death, but each of them have to return to their own time. Ezra leads one final mission against the occupation on Lothal. Not only is he successful at liberating the planet but he also removes Grand Admiral Thrawn as a present danger by jumping to an unknown part of the Galaxy.
Tumblr media
0 BBY:
As the Death Star nears completion, Galen Erso gets a message out to Saw and Jyn who unite on Jedha. He claims to have left a flaw in the Super Weapon's design. She then leads an attack on the Imperial planet Scarif where the Death Star Plans are held. The battle of Scarif is the first open war and conflict between the Empire and a unified Rebel Alliance. Krennic, Jyn and her team are all killed on Scarif, but the plans to the Death Star are successfully passed on to Princess Leia.

How to Stay Updated on the Best Crypto Airdrop Opportunities
In the rapidly evolving world of cryptocurrency, airdrops have become a popular method for projects to distribute tokens and engage with their communities. For investors and enthusiasts, staying updated on the latest airdrop opportunities can lead to significant rewards without the need for financial investment. This blog will explore how to effectively navigate airdrop alerts and ensure you don’t miss out on the best crypto opportunities.
Understanding Airdrops
Airdrops are a marketing strategy used by cryptocurrency projects to distribute free tokens to holders of a specific cryptocurrency or to users who complete certain tasks. This method not only helps projects increase their user base but also allows investors to acquire tokens without financial risk.
Types of Airdrops:
Standard Airdrops: These involve distributing tokens for free to existing holders of a particular cryptocurrency, often based on a snapshot of the blockchain.
Bounty Airdrops: Users can earn tokens by completing specific tasks, such as promoting the project on social media, joining Telegram groups, or referring friends.
Exclusive Airdrops: These are targeted at a select group of users, often based on criteria such as holding a certain amount of a cryptocurrency or participating in a previous token sale.
Why Airdrop Alerts Are Important
Staying updated on airdrop alerts is crucial for several reasons:
Access to Free Tokens: Airdrops provide an opportunity to acquire tokens without any financial investment. By participating in airdrops, you can build your cryptocurrency portfolio without risking your capital.
Early Access to New Projects: Airdrops often involve new projects that are launching their tokens. By participating, you can gain early access to innovative projects and potentially profit from their growth as they gain traction in the market.
Community Engagement: Participating in airdrops often requires engaging with the project’s community, which can provide valuable insights and networking opportunities within the cryptocurrency space.
How to Stay Updated on Airdrop Alerts
To effectively navigate the airdrop landscape, consider the following strategies:
Use Airdrop Aggregator Websites: Several websites specialize in aggregating airdrop information, providing a centralized source of alerts and updates. Platforms like Airdrop Alert, CoinMarketCap’s airdrop section, and Crypto Airdrops offer comprehensive lists of ongoing and upcoming airdrops, along with detailed instructions on how to participate.
Follow Cryptocurrency News Outlets: Stay informed by following reputable cryptocurrency news outlets and blogs. Many of these sources regularly publish articles about upcoming airdrops and provide insights into the projects behind them. Subscribing to newsletters can also help you receive timely updates directly in your inbox.
Join Community Groups: Engaging with cryptocurrency communities on platforms like Telegram, Discord, and Reddit can provide valuable information about airdrops. Many projects announce their airdrops in these groups, and community members often share tips and insights about the best opportunities.
Set Up Alerts: Use tools like Google Alerts or social media notifications to stay updated on specific projects or keywords related to airdrops. This can help you receive real-time updates and ensure you don’t miss out on any opportunities.
Researching Airdrop Projects
Before participating in an airdrop, it’s essential to conduct thorough research on the project. Here are some key factors to consider:
Project Credibility: Research the team behind the project, their experience, and their track record in the cryptocurrency space. A credible team is more likely to deliver on their promises and develop a successful project.
Whitepaper Review: Read the project’s whitepaper to understand its goals, technology, and tokenomics. A well-defined whitepaper can provide insights into the project’s potential for growth and its relevance in the market.
Community Engagement: Evaluate the project’s community engagement on social media platforms. A strong and active community can indicate a project’s potential success and sustainability.
Conclusion
Staying updated on airdrop alerts is a valuable strategy for cryptocurrency enthusiasts and investors looking to capitalize on new opportunities. By utilizing airdrop aggregator websites, following cryptocurrency news outlets, joining community groups, and conducting thorough research on projects, you can navigate the airdrop landscape effectively. With the right approach, participating in airdrops can enhance your cryptocurrency portfolio and provide access to exciting new projects in the ever-evolving digital economy. Bungie Weekly Update - 12/5/19
This week at Bungie, we revealed Season of Dawn.
There has been a lot to learn. Did you miss any of it?
On Tuesday, we released a new trailer to showcase the new stories set into motion by your victories over the Vex. Time is broken on Mercury. It’s up to you to use the Sundial to prevent the Cabal from rewriting history. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to rescue an old friend.
youtube
We followed that up with a livestream packed with additional details on what to expect from Season of Dawn. Didn’t get a chance to watch it live? It’s OK, we taped it on VHS for you. You can watch it here if you don’t have a VCR: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/517034313?t=14m01s
We know you want to plan your best gameplay sessions, so we condensed the big beats for Season of Dawn into this handy-dandy calendar.
Tumblr media
For some more quick details about what to expect next season, check out this Season of Dawn page right here on Bungie.net.
There have also been some spicy videos showing off solar subclass changes coming to Hunters next week.
It’s a trap!
Line ‘em up, Knock em down!
Bet you can’t stick ‘em
We’ll show off some of the changes to Warlocks and Titans in the days to come.
HERE COME THE BULLETS
Here’s a preview of some changes arriving with Season of Dawn. We previously discussed some upcoming subclass changes to solar subclasses here, but we have a few extra tuning notes below. We also have some notes on Exotic Engram changes, powerful rewards caps, bounties, Crucible maps, and more!
Rewards
Increased the drop rate of the “Scourge of the Past” raid Exotic weapon Anarchy from 5% to 10%
The Exotic Engram and the Fated Engram have been collapsed into a single new Exotic Engram item
When opened, it awards a new Exotic if any remain to be collected; otherwise, it contains a random piece of Exotic armor
Note: Contents are still class-specific
Powerful and Pinnacle Reward Caps
Powerful Cap: 960, up from 950
Pinnacle Cap: 970, up from 960
Escalation Protocol
Escalation Protocol wave 7 chest no longer requires a key to open
Chest can be opened upon every successful completion of wave 7
Each time opening the chest awards one piece of EP armor for your character class until you have the full set
After full set is acquired, subsequent opening of the chest awards a random piece of armor
Charged Decryption Keys and Key Fragments are being removed from the game; these items will be removed from player inventories
Armory keys to spawn Valkyrie Javelins are unchanged and will remain
EP weapon drops were not touched and are still cumulative-stream boss drops
Weapon Mods
The cost of slotting a weapon mod has been reduced from 5,000 Glimmer to 500 Glimmer
Fixed an issue where Ada-1 could grant duplicate weapon mods
Bounties
Repeatable bounties have been added to the Gunsmith
Merged strike/Crucible/Gambit objectives on the Gunsmith weekly bounty "Field Calibration" into a single objective that shares progress from all sources
Removed Valor/Infamy and Vanguard tokens from "Field Calibration" as there is no longer a requirement for any of these linked activities
Added new mode-specific daily Crucible bounties (one per day, selected from full-time playlists and active rotators)
Reduced the completion requirements of several daily and repeatable Crucible bounties
Removed grenade and melee bounties from the Crucible bounty repeatable pool
Striker Code of the Missile (Middle Path)
Thundercrash
Increased base damage from 2,700 to 3,200
Increased in-flight damage from 100 to 200
Slightly increased the amount of time you have in the air after activation
Nightstalker Way of the Pathfinder (Bottom Path)
Vanish in Smoke
Added a short period (0.8 seconds) after the invisibility is applied where firing weapons or performing other actions will not break invisibility
This should help prevent allies from accidentally breaking invisibility the moment it’s granted to them if unexpected
Voidwalker Attunement of Fission (Middle Path)
Handheld Supernova
Adjusted grenade charge time so it lines up with the animations and FX; this should make it feel more consistent to activate
Crucible Maps
Added Rusted Lands to appropriate playlists
Added The Dead Cliffs, Legion’s Gulch, Retribution, and Solitude to appropriate playlists
Removed Emperor’s Respite, Equinox, Firebase Echo, and Vostok from all Crucible playlists
These maps are still available for play in private matches
WHAT’S IN STORE?
The past couple seasons of Destiny have brought a lot of change to the Eververse as we look to how we support Destiny on our own as an evolving world. Today we’d like to talk about some of what we’ve heard from you about Season of the Undying, and outline how your feedback is going to impact Season of Dawn.
SILVER-ONLY CONTENT
Offering some amount of Eververse content for Silver only is part of ensuring we are able to fund our ability to keep creating and maintaining Destiny and supporting the team that makes Destiny. That said, we agree with you that we’d also like to see a higher ratio of items that will also be available for Bright Dust. By the end of Season of the Undying, around 50% of Eververse content will have been offered for Bright Dust. In Season of Dawn, we’re going to make around 80% of Eververse content available for Bright Dust at some point during the season.
We’ve also heard you say that you want to know what will be offered for Silver only so you can plan what you are interested in buying.  We agree that providing transparency is vital to making informed decisions. We plan to share on social every week what items will be for Silver only during the season as they appear on the Eververse store.
BRIGHT DUST ECONOMY
In Season of the Undying, we changed Bright Dust from a pay-and/or-play-to-earn currency to a play-to-earn reward. We want all players to be able to acquire a selection of their favorite Eververse content every season just by playing the game, and we’ve been keeping an eye on the Bright Dust economy in Season of the Undying with this in mind. In Season of Dawn, all Dawning Weekly and Repeatable bounties will award Bright Dust in quantities equal to the amount awarded from strike, Crucible, and Gambit bounties (200 per weekly and 10 per repeatable). Crimson Days will do the same for Weekly bounties only, as this event does not include Repeatable bounties.
DUPLICATE PURCHASE PREVENTION
The Eververse store no longer permits purchasing an item that is already in your Collection. Hopefully this makes it much more clear which items you have already purchased and will keep you from spending Silver or Bright Dust on an item you already have.
LOOKING AHEAD
We’re always looking at your feedback, and we’re going to keep being open with you on how that feedback is woven into our overall goals for Destiny and for Bungie. As we’re planning for future seasons, we’re also thinking about the types and themes of content offered through Eververse as well as the role of cosmetic content as a reward for achievement. We’re committed to continually and thoughtfully adjusting the Eververse store to ensure it’s a balanced and optional part of the Destiny player experience while also ensuring that we can support the team creating and evolving Destiny. Please keep the feedback coming, and thanks for all you do to support the team.
GET IT BEFORE IT’S GONE
It’s shopping season. You might be thinking about what’s on your own wish list. Here’s a fact that might help you make an informed purchasing decision when it comes to Destiny…
On December 10, the Digital Deluxe Edition of Shadowkeep will no longer be available. Season of the Undying is almost over. Season of Dawn begins soon. The longer time progresses, the less value you’ll be able to derive from the offering that includes all the Seasons we’re deploying this year—so we’re going to stop selling the bundle.
If you still want it, you have a few days left to grab it for 25% off!*
*retail participation may vary
GHOST OF EXOS PASSED
As we prepare for the changing of the seasons, Player Support has the info you need to know before you go.
This is their report.
SEASONS FLEETINGCurrently, we’re in the final week for Season of the Undying in Destiny 2. All players should be aware that after this Season comes to an end, some activities and loot sources will become unavailable. Here are some notable callouts:
Undying’s free and premium Season rewards—including acquisition for Eriana’s Vow*
Eriana’s Vow catalyst quest*
Vex Offensive matchmade activity
Vex Invasions on the Moon
Vex Weapon Data Seeds from Ikora
The Gatelord’s Eye Seasonal Artifact
Power bonuses granted from the Seasonal Artifact
Season-specific Triumphs, seals, and titles
*Please note that Eriana’s Vow and its catalyst quest will become obtainable through alternative acquisition paths in a future release. Players who have already obtained and begun this quest may complete it after the season ends. Stay tuned for updates.
For an extensive list of tracked items, players should visit this help article.

How to Build a Decentralized Exchange: Interview With DEx.top
May 18, 2018 by Scott
Decentralized cryptocurrency exchanges are one of the community’s most eagerly-anticipated applications. Now DEx.top is set to bring one online in the coming days with several trading pairs, and many more on the way. Built using ERC-20 token architecture, it provides a base with many compatible coins and tokens. Bitsonline got in touch with the team to get more information to share with our readers.

Interview With DEx.top: How Does It Work?
Tumblr media
Scott: DEx.top is a new decentralized exchange, something users have been waiting for. What can you tell us about the upcoming launch?
DEx.top: We are going to be open and transparent. We will open source our code once we launch our product and invite hackers to join the bug bounty program such as “Hackerone Challenge”. We will list quality projects receiving high scores from both our code auditing and voting committee with years of engineering, investment banking & risk management experience in Google, Uber, Temasek, etc. for people to trade. We will also host trading competitions and provide many prizes including popular tokens and an iPhoneX to incentivize and give back to our community.
Being able to quickly and easily exchange ERC-20 tokens means there are many to choose from. DEx.top has selected a solid group to start with with.
At the very beginning, we will list very limited pairs including Cortex (CTXC), Zilliqa (Zil), Kyber Network (KNC), Loom Network (Loom) and Yee Token (Yee) standing for A.I., sharding, decentralized exchange, games and social apps. We include other decentralized exchanges because we consider nobody as competitors but rather friends building up better community and ecosystem together. We will list more pairs in the future without a listing fee. Welcoming all good projects.
Scott: Could you tell us about some of the development process? How long have you been working on it?
DEx.top: The DEx.top project has been in development for over six months, while the developers have years of experience developing blockchain applications. We have team members from USA, Switzerland, Singapore, Hong Kong, etc. who have designed the consensus algorithm, built up a federal chain and developed a futures decentralized exchange before. We have suffered from some twists of design, but finally we made many unique “firsts” ourselves.
Scott: What features are you the most excited about?
DEx.top: We utilize a ROC mechanism (Replayed on Chain) to provide users with a more secure, instant, and low fee trading experience that no other exchange can compare with. Both ledgers closely synchronize with each other, where all trading activities are recorded on the off-chain ledger and later replayed (executed in the same fashion and order) and confirmed on the on-chain ledger.
We also do not hold users’ private keys, all assets are stored in the smart contract, and therefore users’ assets will never be lost even in the unlikely event of DEx.top getting hacked.
Bucking the Trend: Focus on the Product, Not a Token Sale
It is good that DEx.top is taking security seriously, as we have seen many times in the Ethereum ecosystem many exchanges and ancillary companies keep getting hacked, or leave exploits that expose customers to theft and loss.
Another interesting aspect of DEx.top is they are going to launch with a product first instead of with an ICO. This is bucking a trend which has plagued the industry lately, where so many startups have launched ICOs with promises of great products and services with very little chance of ever delivering what they are offering.
DEx.top also stated during the interview:
“We will not issue any token for financing. We will deliver products rather than a whitepaper. We are a group of people keen on blockchain, just wishing to make a better ecosystem.”
Scott: Is the exchange available in all countries at launch?
DEx.top: No, we are strictly compliant with the relevant regulation. We will have a list of countries we will be available in at launch soon.
Scott: What is DEx.top most looking forward to in the first few months after launch?
DEx.top: First, we wish to see how people accept the concept of the decentralized exchange. They should gradually come to understand, use and enjoy our secure instant trading on chain.
Second, we wish to dig out the star projects world-wide and help these blockchain teams grow better, like Nasdaq for the traditional start-ups.
Third, we wish to cooperate with more partners such as software and hardware wallets such as Bitcome and Ledger to provide a better experience for users. Also we want to include instant messaging and social media apps such as Yeecall and K Site to build up our community. Ethererum and Bitcoin sidechians such as loom and RSK will also be supported in the future to provide users cross-chain transactions.
Lastly, we will design and develop our mobile app since there is still no user-friendly app now. This will allow people to easily trade and keep track of their assets on the go.
Great Potential for Decentralized Exchanges if Done Right
We are looking forward to the coming launch of DEx.top as a working, decentralized exchange is something that has been a long time coming. The potential for growth in this market is huge.
DEx.top looks to have a bright future with the base it is building. By starting out with a working product, it puts them ahead of many of the ICOs who are promising something similar without a single line of code. We will follow the launch and let you know what we find. Stay tuned.
Will truly decentralized exchanges change the landscape for cryptocurrency traders? Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments.

Brutak: Outcast of Iridonia, Part 1 of 2
Born on Iridonia, Brutak Liberatt was an orange Zabrak. His tribe raised him to be independent and to carry on the tradition that Zabraks were famous for: never taking orders from others. His creed would see to it that if someone called to have power over him and ordered him to do something he didn’t want to, he would not do it.
When Brutak was young, his family suddenly became distant with him. He wasn’t sure it was that he had done, but they regarded him with a strange attitude. His parents didn’t treat his brother or anyone else Brutak saw them interact with in the way they treated him. News had come through of a tribe getting ready to leave Iridonia and Brutak’s mother secreted him away. She sent him to join the tribe, telling him that they would raise him to be true and strong.
Brutak left Iridonia to travel with this wandering tribe of Zabraks. It was normal for Zabraks to form tribes and wander out further into the galaxy, the most notable one being the Night Sisters. This one was travelling for different reasons though. They had heard about how the republic had taken care of the Night Sisters and regarded this as good news. They thought it good because the Night Sisters were notorious for their strange experiments on abducted Zabraks. When the republic shifted into the Galactic Empire, they feared the worst and set out. They would learn soon afterwards that they were right, for the Empire sought to bring the species of rebellious aliens under boot.
The tribe was known as the Starspikes and they lived on a space vessel. Few of them would leave the vessel when it was docked planetside to gather supplies and credits. Those who left often were a mercenary company going by the name of Starspikes so that they could work with any bounty hunting guilds that accepted them. As a young man, Brutak would set out with two “brothers'' to work as a trio. It was most often them that formed the Starspikes.
To keep things coherent with any tales told about them, they wore black armor and went by code names. Brutak was known as Ortega while the other two were brothers Gaia and Mash. Gaia often took the lead on the missions since he was the oldest and knew how to best secure deals. Anyone acting as Gaia would have the leadership role, but as far as Brutak knew, no one else ever used the codename Gaia besides his “brother.” Mash was the second oldest and he was the strongest of the bunch, so he served better for intimidation and backed up on those deals. The codenames Mash and Ortega would be used by others, but it was always Gaia and Mash that went to accept missions. Whoever had the codename Ortega would just wait for them to reconvene and hear the plan for the mission. Just as Brutak often did.
Brutak was currently meditating on his past. Meditation was a strange ritual he had seemingly adopted out of nowhere. He picked up on it in their travels and found that it brought him a lot of peace to simply meditate at times. He could swear that if he reached a very deep and calm state of meditation, he could hear the universe trying to speak to him. It was written off by any elders he talked to about it, but sometimes in his dreams he could swear the same thing.
As he reflected back, a specific instance reached out to him. It was one he thought about every so often, feeling a special connection to it. When he was younger on the ship and had started learning how to meditate, he would get strange looks from the other Zabraks in the Starspike tribe. One time he overheard people talking about someone named Koth and how a great tragedy is said to have befell them. He stepped forward into their room to approach them.
“Who is Koth? Was the tragedy on him or from his actions?” Brutak asked with great curiosity.
“Koth? Oh no, we were talking about Hoth, young warrior,” chuckled the older Zabrak.
The other one nervously looked to Brutak, “You just misheard us, kid.”
“What is the tragedy of Hoth?”
“It’s uhm… It was a beautiful world, but now it’s frozen. Shouldn’t you be practicing combat or something, kid?”
Brutak was so certain he had heard them talking of Koth’s tragedy, but none would admit to him such a thing existed.
Brutak was awoken from his meditation as Gaia and Mash returned to the ship. Brutak would get up to greet them and ask how it went. As usual, they’d say it went well enough and now they have work to do. Their latest mission involved spice traders with a secret facility that would need some guarding.
“A leak has informed these smugglers that some Empire scouts will be flying by to check out the area from an anonymous tip,” spoke Gaia. “We’ve been hired to deal with them in any way that ends with their secret base remaining secret.”
Brutak felt ease at hearing the main goal was to keep the base secret. He knew this was partially because he did not like to kill. Gaia was willing to work with him on this “strange nicety” he had developed, though sometimes it was not to be helped if it involved defeating stormtroopers. Mash scoffed as Gaia spoke of dealing with them in “any way.”
“It would be easiest to simply blow up their ships as they pass through,” Mash grumbled.
“But then they might want to send more knowing that something out there took out their patrol. More enemies for the next mission and that’s if we’re here for it,” replied Brutak, better known as brother Ortega to them.
“Ortega, that would just be better business for us and more blood to spill to prove our strength,” Mash said through gritted teeth. “I swear your weakness will be the death of us one day. You’ll show mercy and they’ll show vengeance or trick you in a way that hurts us all.”
“I wouldn’t betray you guys, Mash!” Ortega shouted.
“You know not how to control your emotions and outbursts! You are a fake Zabrak, somehow born into the skin of our kind but truly not one of us!”
“That’s enough, Mash. Ortega can do enough to get the job done. We work together as a great team and the three of us have perfected the Jet Stream Attack formation. So set aside your differences and let’s actually plan how we’re going to earn these credits,” Gaia said with his usual commanding voice.
Despite the booming and gruffness of Gaia, Brutak still felt depressed about what Mash said. It was the usual attitude he expected from Mash, but he felt truth in his words whenever he declared Brutak to be different from everyone else. That something about him was fake. It made him wonder if this was why his parents sent him away. Despite the deep hurt he felt at these comments, he tried to never act on it. Something in him drove him to drive the pain down and show him a neutral grace.
They discussed their plans for how to handle the mission. It was going to be a simple setup. They’d arrive at the space station A Baoa Qu which was disguised as a large asteroid cluster. The disguise would hold up as long as none of the ships actually went to dock on the asteroids for any reason. The Starspikes would set up on the outside and watch for the people coming through. Once they saw them, they’d divert them away and make like they were caught doing an illegal run. After getting the fleet to chase them into an asteroid field, they’d evade the group and pick off any stragglers. If any of them put up a fight further than that, they’d shoot at vital systems on the ships, forcing them to group up to rescue those from the failing ships.
The Starspikes set out their plan and it was all going accordingly. Their ship, a modified Star Courier repainted to black like their armor, was stationed in a hidden spot while they waited. Eventually three Empire scouts piloting Tie Scout ships came into their territory. It was just as the leak suggested meaning they were here to check up on the information that had been given to them. The Starspikes waited for them to pass and then revealed themselves, firing on the ship in the back. Brother Ortega gasped as Mash chuckled heartily, fueled with adrenaline from the upcoming battle.
One of the Tie Scouts seemed to stutter before it began to haphazardly wobble through space, weaving a trail of smoke out from behind it. The secondary Tie Scout followed behind it to rescue the pilot as he made an emergency ejection. The leader of the scouts banked towards the Starspikes’ ship and the chase began. Ortega ran through the ship to the front where Gaia was piloting.
“Don’t start with me, Ortega. Get back there and focus on those scanners,” shouted Gaia as he piloted them through the asteroid field. “The pilot will live. See to it that we do too.”
The two remaining Tie Scouts chased them into the asteroid field. Lasers flew through the area, some of the shots coming close to banking off their wings. Ortega shouted coordinates to Mash of asteroids to shoot while also shouting warnings to Gaia of incoming asteroids. The chase felt like it was lasting forever, each second stretching into eons for Ortega as he watched lasers and rubble fly.
Once through the asteroid field, the Starspikes continued to lead them away farther from the secret space station. The chase continued out in the open space where the danger was far greater than navigating the asteroid fields. Gaia constantly swung the ship back and forth as they performed several rolls and sways. Laser fire would occasionally dart past the ship now that they had no cover to hide behind. Mash was making steady bursts of lasers at the ships, some of his shots barely grazing the enemies but successfully keeping them inaccurate as well. Ortega watched on the scanners with worry as he tried to keep his trust in Gaia’s plan.
“Damn it, if only we held still for a minute, I’d shoot them both out of the sky!” shouted Mash.
“We just need to keep them moving around,” spoke Ortega.
“Sure thing, kid,” he replied sarcastically.
Suddenly the ship rocked violently as a muffled explosion sounded through the ship. Mash began to fire wildly as Ortega ran to investigate. Their engine had been hit and severely damaged. He ran to the front to tell Gaia amidst the alarm going off on the ship.
Gaia was struggling at the controls, fighting against spinning out of control. Ortega rushed to his side to help him as they veered off into space. They heard Mash roar a successful yell from the back, declaring he got one. Ortega could only focus on helping Gaia guide them to a nearby planet.
Their ship made a bumpy crash landing as they slid into a valley amidst a strange mountainous region. Ortega heard the slam of Mash in the back, falling out of his gunner cockpit and into the hall. Gaia and Ortega looked at each other, making a quick scan to see how they were. Gaia’s helmet had been cracked and he was banged up by the landing. Ortega was sore, but overall he was fine. He pulled out a medpac and handed it to Gaia as he went to check on Mash.
In the back he found Mash was unconscious and his helmet had fallen off. The man was a pale yellow Zabrak with small horns and long purple hair. He tried shaking him awake, but the best he got was mumbled words about “got the bastard.” Looking up, Ortega saw one of the Tie Scouts speeding across the sky with a dark voluminous trail of smoke behind it. Ortega looked back to Mash with a scowl and lifted him up to carry him to the cockpit. Ortega wasn’t the strongest of the bunch, but his strength still had a significant difference from the average Zabrak.
“I think they’re making emergency landings on the other side of the mountain,” spoke Ortega as he set Mash on a seat in the back of the cockpit.
Gaia swore under his breath as he applied the contents of the medpac to a wound on his skull. Ortega looked over at him, Gaia had removed his helmet revealing his dark red skin and black hair. It was kept short and in rows between his horns. One of his horns had broken. Ortega knew it would grow back in time, but that there would be shame.
“We have to find them,” he said with a flat tone. “Go do recon while I get Mash back on his feet.”
Ortega nodded and promptly left the ship with some scanning equipment. He headed in the direction of the smoke and wandered into the surrounding mountain. As he moved further in, his equipment started becoming unreliable. Out of nowhere it started to lead him in circles, like he was being drawn back to caves in the sides of the mountain instead of through them towards the pilots.
As he got ready to start navigating without the equipment, he felt a strange sensation. Like he was being drawn to the caves through the calling of an ethereal force. Removing his helmet, he felt he could hear it more clearly. He set his helmet by the entrance of the cave as he listened. Ortega followed, giving in to the strange instinct of his gut, and began to explore the caves. Armed with a simple light he tried his best to not get lost.
Some time later, he found a strange temple. The markings he didn’t recognize, yet he could understand it was a ritual of some kind. There were images depicting robed men of varying species wielding a hilt that emitted a blade of light. He took his light and tried to mimic it, feeling in tune with everything as he did so. He practiced in the cave as he walked through it, feeling like a lesson was being handed down to him. Finally he reached a circular room with a raised platform in the middle.
Taking a deep breath, he went to the middle of the room and sat down. He turned off his flashlight, trapping himself within the darkness of the room. He began to meditate as he had done so many times before, such as before their mission started. Time seemed to drag on as he sat in the dark, simply clearing his mind and opening it to any suggestions.
The room began to glow around him and rocks began to levitate. He could hear the sudden whoosh of a rising wind around him. Ortega remained still as he focused, opening his mind to a sign. He thought about Koth.
“Brutak,” a distant voice whispered.
Brutak began to open his eyes.
“What am I?” he replied.
“Ortega!” a closer voice shouted.
The wind became still, the rocks clattered to the ground, and the glow faded away.
“Ortega, are you lost? You miserable gravel-maggot,” the voice shouted again.
Quickly flicking back on his light, Brutak got up from the podium and dashed out of the temple. A few moments later, he found Gaia and Mash with lights near the front of the cave.
“There you are,” Gaia spoke. “For a moment I thought you got caught in a cave-in.”
“No, sir,” replied Ortega.
Mash jammed Ortega’s helmet into his chest, knocking an “oof” out of him.
“We found your helmet,” Mash barked. “Don’t lose it again unless you don’t want us to find you, gravel-maggot.”
“I thought there was a creature in there,” Ortega lied, “I was trying to make sure it wasn’t something that could ambush us. My scanners show the pilots should be just over the range.”
“Good. Let’s make sure they can’t report back to their command and scrap their parts to repair the Nebula-glaive.”
“What if they’re looking for us? Let’s just wait to bash em when they come through,” spoke Mash.
“Not likely, Mash,” replied Gaia. “No doubt they’re trying to repair their ship now to search for us with air superiority. Let’s not give them the chance.”
Following the smoke and scanners, the Starspikes crew marched through the mountains. On the other side they found another valley, this one having more trees and greenery in its environment. It didn’t take them long to find the crashed ships in a clearing. One of them had holes in it from Mash’s shooting and the other had crashed into trees. Two of them were clearing debris from the ship as the other rested against it. He had bandages around his arm and face.
“Let’s take them out now, we have no choice,” said Mash with glee as he grabbed his blaster.
Gaia laid his hand over the blaster, “Missing crew means reinforcements.”
“We can take them. It’s three to two. Plus no one has beaten our signature move,” remarked Ortega.
“We knock them out and then what? Strand them to await those reinforcements?” spat Mash.
“We’ll knock them out and then keep them aboard the Nebula-glaive. We’ll make like our hideout has been compromised and dump them somewhere they can buy a new ship so to not make enemies with the Empire.”
Ortega nodded. Mash grumbled but then gave a “yes sir” before following orders. The three of them moved in quickly with combat sticks. They fired off their jetpacks and rushed in a straight line. The two pilots looked up in shock as Mash came barrelling down on them. He struck one of them across the head and to the ground. The other dodged to the side, but right behind Mash was Ortega. He lunged at the pilot, but he missed and barrelled past him. Finally Gaia came crashing into the dirt and sweeped his legs up with the combat stick. With the pilots on the ground, Gaia stood over them with his blaster drawn.
“We don’t want trouble with the Empire.”
“Well you’re in for it now! Do you know who that is!?” cried the one clutching his arm.
“Quiet, Gamspen,” commanded the one taken down by Gaia.
“We just need your parts. Then we’ll take you off to the closest port and part ways,” continued Gaia.
“No one has to die today,” Ortega added.
“But I’ll gladly see to it that someone does,” spoke Mash.
“You have the upper hand it seems,” spoke the pilot. “But you will pay for this.”
Mash leaned in to grab the mouthy one by the collar. As he did so, he raised his blaster and fired. They looked to see him shooting at the injured pilot. The man’s face turned white as he dropped the blaster he had been picking up.
“Hajonn, just surrender,” commanded the other one.
The man raised his good arm and stayed where he was. Mash looked back to the one he picked up.
“Why’s the old man so important?” Mash growled.
Gaia was already tying up the older one and handed rope to Ortega to tie up the injured one. They both looked to Mash as the man simply kept quiet. Mash shook the pilot.
“I said, why is he so important, huh!?” Mash shouted.
“I’m Commander Mabarah Revil,” spoke the older one.
“Terrabast! An Empire Commander?!” Mash shouted aiming his blaster.
Ortega panicked as he watched Gaia draw his blaster too.
“That is a problem,” spoke Gaia.
“W-wait,” called Ortega. “Maybe he’s more valuable to us alive.”
“Getting involved with capturing a commander is going to make more trouble for us than a simple hand off at a port,” spoke Gaia.
“We can ransom him back or something. Or maybe the rebels will pay for him.”
Revil kept a stern gaze as they debated his fate. Zabrak took a deep breath and then looked intently at Gaia, feeling a sudden calm guiding him.
“We need him alive,” spoke Brutak.
Gaia stood for a moment as if seriously taking in what was being said.
“We need him alive,” he repeated, lowering his blaster.
“Are you kidding me!?” shouted Mash, tossing down the other pilot. “Am I the only around here who doesn’t have womp rats for brains?”
It was some time later that they managed to get all the parts they needed for the ship. While they did repairs, Ortega would wander off to the caves to try and find the temple again. Once he found it again, he went back in to explore more. He tried to meditate, but it just didn’t seem to click this time. So he spent more time practicing with his flashlight the techniques he saw in the carvings on the wall.
Eventually his comm crackled to life as they radioed in that it was time for them to go. Ortega returned promptly and the Nebula-glaive fired back up. Gaia secretly communicated with their employers to let them know that their mission was successful and they’d be around for their credits in a few days. During this time, they flew off to the closest spaceport. Once there they released the two Empire scouts, stripped of their uniforms. Their best hope was that the men would either abandon their posts or take so long to return their call to the Empire that the Starspikes would be long gone.
Afterwards they picked up their payment from the spice pirates, obviously keeping it a secret that they had a new prisoner of their own. Ortega was assigned to guard duty as Gaia took them to another space port, this time trying to find any rebel contacts to figure out ransoming the Commander. Mash stayed on board incase of any complications to help with guard duty as needed.
A few days later, Ortega tried speaking with the prisoner.
“So, who do you work for?” asked Ortega.
“You know I work for the Empire, serving the glory of our Emperor,” replied Mabarah Revin.
“Yes, but I mean, you must have a higher up, right?” asked Ortega.
“That’s classified information.”
“Who am I going to tell?”
“It’s valuable information.”
“Well I’m really curious as to why they’d send a high ranking Commander like yourself out on a simple scouting mission,” pondered Ortega.
“I wanted to be in the field. The information came by suspiciously and I needed to be there in case of any rebel surprises,” he spoke plainly.
“Oh hey, you do share sometimes,” joked Ortega.
“You seem more relaxed than your colleagues about this.”
“Well… It’s a complicated matter with us.”
“I would really like something to eat.”
Ortega was caught off guard by the request and stared at him for a moment.
“Are you serious?”
“We hadn’t eaten before the mission. Now your leader only allows me a share of a ration per day. Who knows what the rebels will feed me. If they feed me.”
Ortega winced at the idea that they’d be trading him off just for someone else to bring down the metaphorical axe on him.
“Yeah, just… give me a moment,” Ortega said before standing up from his seat.
Ortega went out to the cockpit where Mash was currently sitting. Almost instantly Mash stood up with a blaster in hand.
“The prisoner, did he-?!”
“It’s fine, Mash. I’m just hungry. I won’t be any longer than when I use the bathroom,” Ortega said as he grabbed some food.
Mash glared at him as Ortega left the cockpit and back to the quarters they were keeping Commander Revin in. When he entered, he saw Revin’s eyes light up at the sight of some real food. Ortega set the bread aside as he undid a single and moved it to a nearby pipe. With one hand free, Revin was able to accept and eat the bread.
“This tastes far better than the Polystarch Bread they give us in our ration packs,” remarked Revin.
“I didn’t know there was worse bread than what we have,” remarked Ortega.
“Rear Admiral Jerjerrod says the veg-meat is a test of character for new recruits. Separates the devoted from the pretenders amongst the Stormtroopers.”
“That sounds like valuable information,” spoke Ortega.
“You paid with valuable bread,” replied Revin.
“So is Jerjerrod going to hunt you down and rescue you from those rebels?” asked Ortega.
“I’m sure he’ll send out a crew to find me. They’ll be hunting you, but if you just tell them where I’ve been left at, I’m sure they won’t make trouble for you.”
“I doubt anyone will find us, but if the Empire is as strong as they say, they’ll track you down no problem.”
A little bit later, it was getting to be Mash’s turn for watch over Revin. As Ortega was getting up to get the door for him, Revin coughed and motioned with his free hand.
“Ah right. I’ll need to fix that or he’ll kill me.”
Ortega leaned in and Revin moved his hand back by the cuff. As he undid the cuff around the pipe, suddenly Revin jammed his shoulder into Ortega’s face. Disoriented, he leaned back and then Revin grabbed the key out of his hand. He quickly undid one of the cuffs on his feet and stood up to knee Ortega in the face.
“Pathetic,” he remarked as he rushed to the door.
Ortega quickly got up after him as the door opened.
“Gravel-maggot, what’s takin-” Mash began, cut off by surprise at Revin at the door.
Revin quickly snatched the blaster from his hand and rapidly fired it into Mash’s gut and his leg. He doubled over as Ortega rushed behind Revin. Ortega chased after him until he made out the exit hatch and into the garage hangar they were parked in. He stopped for a moment as he heard the groans of pain behind him. He grit his teeth and turned back to tend to Mash.
He radioed Gaia after patching up Mash and let him know they had trouble with Revin and that he escaped. When Gaia returned he was furious.
“How the hell did this happen?!” he hollered looking over Mash.
“He needs a doctor,” spoke Ortega. “The prisoner he… he got my key and took me by surprise.”
Gaia took off his helmet and threw it across the room before marching up to Ortega.
“Don’t lie to me. How the hell could a man with cuffs around his feet and hands manage to grab a key from you? Even if he got a hand free, how could he get close enough to you without you breaking every bone in his body as a consequence for his foolish actions?”
Ortega looked away and Gaia shoved him into the wall. Ortega was startled and looked up to get a kick in the stomach. He doubled over and Gaia grabbed him by the back of his neck and brought him into the hallway.
“Remove the armor,” he commanded.
Ortega began to remove the armor, feeling anger boil up in him. How could Gaia do this to him? Mash needed help and here he was getting ready to do ritual combat for honor or some other nonsense. It wasn’t his fault that the Empire hires such conniving officers. He felt so betrayed. He showed the man kindness and this was what he did to him? And now his leader was kicking him around with a bunch of sucker punches?
Ortega looked up with anger as he stood in his simple clothes, a pile of black armor next to him. He motioned to Gaia to do the same.
“Oh no, that’s not what we’re doing,” Gaia said as his jetpack fired up.
“What?” Ortega asked with shock as Gaia slammed into him, knocking him onto his back.
Gaia grabbed him by the shirt collar and dragged him to the exit hatch. Ortega felt himself get lifted and tossed, tumbling onto the pavement of the garage. He scrambled to his feet as the hatch closed. He slammed himself against it and banged a fist against the door.
“No wait! I’m sorry, Gaia! Please! I can make things right!”
“Mash needs a doctor,” replied Gaia from the other side as he walked back to the cockpit.
Ortega ran over to the cockpit and began to beat on the glass. Mash groaned and turned, barely opening his eyes to see what was happening.
“I’m going to take him back to see a doctor. It’s unfortunate that you died out here,” Gaia said pausing for a moment to look Ortega in the eyes. “Brutak.”
“I can make things right!” he shouted again, slapping at the glass.
“Piss off, gravel-maggot,” choked out Mash with a grin, then long groans of pain.
The ship’s engines fired up and it rose into the air. Brutak felt the sting of no longer being called his “brother” name. He was officially outcast from the Starspikes mercenary group. But now he was about to lose his family again. Separated from his family back home, separated from his new family on the Starspikes tribe ship, and now kicked from his mercenary brothers.
“Don’t leave me!” he shouted up at them as they rose into the air.
Something welled up inside of Brutak in that moment. That calming sensation he had known before swirled around him like an angry whirlwind in his mind. Thoughts crashing against each other like waves of blood being spilt. He roared as he leap straight up, an unbelievable height, to latch on the bottom of the ship.
“You CAN’T leave me!” he shouted.
“So it’s true,” Gaia said. “You are some kind of freak.”
“There they are. Don’t let them get away,” shouted Commander Revin.
Brutak turned to the garage’s entrance to see a squad of stormtroopers behind him. They opened fire as the Nebula-glaive swung around and began to fly out of the garage’s upper entrance. Brutak tried to hold on as tight as he could, but he could feel the power within him draining away. He felt like there had been a well inside of him and he just dumped the entire thing. His grip loosened and a blaster bolt singed across his back as it grazed him.
He yelled out with pain as he fell to the ground and watched the spaceship dart away into the sky. Brutak limped over to a nearby container as he heard Revin shout and send a man in his direction. Brutak peeked over the crate to see a stormtrooper rushing towards him. He cussed and slinked away, running out into the streets.
Brutak crashed through a crowd that filled with gasps as they saw the wounds on his back. The stormtrooper came running through after him shortly after, shouting for everyone to stand aside. He was gaining on Brutak and time was running out. As he staggered through the streets, he tried to duck into alleys to hide. He found a dumpster and slumped besides it with a hiss of pain. Then he waited.
Hope began to renew in him as the sound of people passing by seemed to suggest he had gotten away. It was just as quickly dashed away as he heard the clunking of stormtrooper armor coming down the alley. He held his position, grit his teeth, and curled his fists as he got ready to fight. The stormtrooper got closer and closer and Brutak simply listened. He steadied his breathing and waited for the steps to get closer and closer. Then, once the stormtrooper was close enough, he lunged to his feet and swung at him.
The stormtrooper was startled as the gun was knocked out of his hand, but he quickly drew a tonfa that sparked an electric buzz on the end. He swung it at Brutak, hitting him across the face, and then jammed the electric end into his stomach. Brutak hollered as he fell back onto his injuries. He hollered a second time as his blaster wound hit the sidewalk. He looked up at the stormtrooper.
“It’s over, hornhead scum,” he said with vile.
Suddenly a blue stun blast hit him in the back and the stormtrooper collapsed. Brutak tried to lift himself up to see, but his vision was fading. All he saw was a man in red, then he lost consciousness.
Brutak later awoke in a strange place. It was unkempt and had several people moving around crates of supplies. One of them was using a radio to speak a coded message when he turned to see Brutak. He hung up the radio and introduced himself.
The man was Harc Anbleza, the leader of a small resistance on this planet Pasher. He often dressed in red colors to help signal who he was to other rebels and would-be rebels, though he often switched it up to avoid the imperials on the planet. Brutak wasn’t interested in joining their rebellion, but was thankful that they had saved him. He was only interested in escaping this planet and finding his tribe’s ship so that he could return to his people. He also wanted to find that temple and continue trying to learn what he could about it.
Over the course of the next several months, Brutak would try to repay his debt by helping them with odd jobs but none he found to be putting himself too far out into the open. Overtime he grew to like these rebels and how they treated him as an equal, though at times he was reminded of Anbleza’s authority as leader. It reminded him of Gaia at times.
In his off time, Brutak did what he could for credits. It wasn’t too hard to find grunt work on a desert planet like this, but the better work was enforcer work. Tracking down people who owed debts or taking care of people who had been too unruly in bars. Brutak was beginning to like how he could wield a stun baton and it reminded him of practicing in the strange temple.
Unbeknownst to Brutak, his leap in the hangar had been witnessed by several stormtroopers and Revin. One of those stormtroopers got drunk at the bar and spoke about how he saw the Zabrak make an absolute show of himself. Crying and shouting until he suddenly flew through the air. Most of the patrons ignored it and laughed about it, declaring his senses too addled by the drinks. One of them did not ignore it.
This news went through a specific network until the information reached a very interested party. That interested party then set out to Pasher.
Over the next few weeks, Brutak got a droid and a ship. He was making his final preparations to set out in the coming days, despite the rebels wanting him to stay.
“You should really think about the good you can do if you stay here to help us,” spoke Anbleza. “If you want to go off world so bad, you can join me in the Red Cruiser for supply runs. I’m the deftest pilot in the galaxy, no laser has ever grazed me.”
Brutak felt his back ache and thought about it before laughing it off.
“I can’t stay here forever. Also the credits are non-refundable on my ship.”
Brutak put a hand on Anbleza’s shoulder before continuing, “But I’ll say my goodbyes. Tomorrow’s our last mission together and then I’m off this sand rock.”
It was at this time the interested party was arriving.
The mission was a standard one, grabbing supplies from an imperial trade to injure the occupying forces and strengthen the rebelling. Everything was going according to plan, as it often does under Harc Anbleza’s command. Brutak was waiting to rendezvous with the rest of the team and help cover their escape outside the facility. He often took times like these to meditate as he did now. It was another standard session of meditation when suddenly a voice broke through his mind.
“Found you.”
Brutak fell off the box he had positioned himself on with a crash and looked around. There was no one there. One of the other rebels went to help him up.
“Are you okay?” he asked.
“I’m… not sure,” Brutak replied with hesitation.
He took another breath to clear his mind and tried again.
“You won’t escape me.”
“Who are you?!” he shouted looking around.
The other rebel shakily held his blaster, “Brutak? It’s me, Zerton.”
Brutak looked at Zerton with confusion. He knew she was the Balosar rebel he had been paired with. She appeared human except for the two antennapalps on her head. Was that why she hadn’t heard the voice?
“Did you not hear him?” asked Brutak.
“It’s just us and we gotta keep quiet or a patrol might come by,” she warned, still obviously worried about Brutak’s sanity.
“Something’s not right here…” he said, going to the door.
As Brutak went to open the door, it was flung wide open as two rebels with wounds came running through. Looking inside, he saw a black Twi’lek with many cybernetics fighting with an Aqualish rebel. The Twi’lek gave a toothy grin as he kicked the rebel back and then brandished a red lightsaber and slashed him in two. Brutak gasped. It was the weapon from the carvings.
In the glow of the saber he could see the black Twi’leks abdomen had been modified with cybernetics and so had part of his arm and face. It turned to him and he saw the orange eyes lock on his. The Twi’lek smiled.
“I found you.”
A hand grabbed Brutak and pulled him back as the door was slammed.
“Come on, we need to GO!” shouted Anbleza. “I can’t lose you too Brutak!”
“What happened to everyone else?” he asked as they ran after the other two.
“We took out the guards and everything was going great until he suddenly showed up. He was the mercenary they had hired on, the one we thought we could handle. But he was no mercenary. He was a jedi,” Anbleza said grimly as they ducked into an alley.
They could hear the door being kicked open with tremendous force behind them. They continued to talk as they raced back to the base. Brutak felt great sorrow for his fallen comrades. He had tried to distance himself before, but they all had grown on him. They were his friends and he was supposed to protect them…
“What’s a Jedi?” asked Brutak.
“Are you kidding me? You’ve never heard of the people who can wield the Force?” asked Anbleza.
“No. What’s the Force?”
“I… what? What rock have you been living under? I don’t under the mystic mumbo jumbo, but I thought it was all rumors that the Empire had Jedi, the force users, in their armies. They were like propaganda used by the republic and scary stories used by the Empire. Strange magical men who blades of light that could cut through anything and shield against blasters.”
Before Brutak could go on, the three of them stopped dead in their tracks. The rebel base wasn’t too far ahead of them, but the sight was clearly visible now. It had been totally destroyed and a ruined building stood before them. An arm hung out the window with a singed hole underneath it. They had tried to escape the wrath of this force user.
“How fitting,” spoke the voice from behind them. “A Zabrak cost me my honor. A Zabrak will restore it.”
The three of them turned to face the black Twi’lek, dressed in black and walking towards them.
“Jedi,” spoke Brutak.
“Jedi Hunter,” corrected the Twi’lek. “But something tells me that you’re not a Jedi if you’re making that mistake.”
“What do you want with him?” demanded Anbleza.
“I need him to restore my honor. To show Lord Vader that I, Mazer’kairn, am worthy of the Inquisitors. I can be a brother! I have purged the familiarity that cursed me before, I see the weakness now and it is gone! But I must hunt Jedi to prove my worth.”
He flicked on his lightsaber, the red beam crackling with uncontrolled power. It was a crude device poorly put together out of the remains of others. It matched the patchwork metal of his body.
“Now, are you coming willingly or do I get to chase you some more?” he said with a sinister grin.
“Get out of here!” shouted the Balosar as she began firing her blaster at him.
The blade moved swiftly to block the blaster bolts. One of them was deflected back at her and hit her in the leg. She grunted but continued firing as Brutak and Anbleza ran to the hangar.
“We have to get to the ships. His magic won’t help him in a dogfight,” spoke Anbleza.
“I can barely operate the ship in the first place. It’s why I got the droid,” Brutak warned.
“That’s okay. I’m an ace pilot. Best there is in the system.”
They continued to run until they made it to the hangar. There they got into their ships and set off into the sky. It wasn’t long until another ship was behind them, chasing them out into space. It looked like a heavily damaged and modified RZ-1 A-wing.
Lasers began to fly out into space as it opened fire on the Red Cruiser. Brutak wasn’t sure why, but it seemed like the enemy did not want to shoot him out of the sky. He wanted him alive for some reason.
Brutak let the droid take care of the piloting and dodging any lasers that tended to come his way. Otherwise he watched as the Red Cruiser zipped around through space, making spirals and spins as it dodged the attacks of Mazer’karin. Twin streams of fire burst out of the back of the RZ-1 as he blasted through space trying to catch the Red Cruiser. Harc Anbleza had not been lying or cocky whenever he talked about being such an ace pilot.
They had quite the dogfight as Brutak tried to help in whatever way he could. The droid beeped frantically and warned him to retreat from this senseless violence. The commanding voice of Anbleza came over the ship’s comms as his face appeared on a screen.
“You need to get out of here, Brutak,” he spoke.
“I won’t abandon you guys!” he shouted back.
“Oh please, you were set to leave anyway. I’ll be fine and there’s more of us out there. It’s you he wants, Jedi,” he said with the Jedi carrying an air of sarcasm.
“Harc… You don’t have to do this.”
“If you’re getting sentimental, I’m going to have to laugh at you,” he said with a smile. “Now go!”
The communication channel shut off and the droid beeped at Brutak.
“Yeah yeah… Let’s get out of here, quick.”
Brutak pulled back from the fight and began to fly away. The RZ-1 veered away from the Red Cruiser and sped at him, locking his targeting systems on Brutak’s engine. Just before he could fire, lasers shot through one of his wings. The RZ-1 began to spin out of control as the Red Cruiser zipped around it.
With a deep breath, Brutak steadied himself and darted off into space. He would continue to visit several planets along his journey as he searched for the lost temple of the caves. He tried to learn more about the Jedi and meditation, but was often met with the legends of those who had served in the old Republic. Tales spoken in whispers for those that feared the wrath of the Empire for speaking of the system before.
