SOTUS WAS FORBIDDEN FROM AIRING FOR FORTY-TWO DAYS IN THE MIDDLE OF ITS BROADCAST
"Really???"
YUP.
In 2016, many TV programs in Thailand were suspended to honor a national mourning period for the late king, so that meant viewers were left on a cliffhanger from episode 8 for FORTY-TWO DAYS.
"The first eight episodes aired between 20 August 2016 and 8 October 2016. After the passing of Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the series was ordered to stop airing during the 30-day official mourning period." - SOTUS Wiki
Seriously, watch how this episode ends and think: they didn't get another episode for FORTY! TWO! DAYS!
Holy shit, right? And like, not only did SOTUS keep its audience captivated enough to keep watching, not only was it a success, it revolutionized the entire BL industry and kickstarted the current behemoth it's become.
All hail the simp and his shouty senpai. <3

i hate the “oh they couldn’t cast a blind actress to play toph because it would be too difficult to accommodate them to film”
like yeah imagine a story about a young disabled person who overcomes challenges associated with their disability in order to become successful despite how people might underestimate them or assume them to be helpless. that has no place in avatar the last airbender.
#also imagine how influential of a figure a young performer getting to accurately portray their own disability would be#i think that’s objectively better than unnamed blind people who are ‘advising’ a sighted actor#toph beifong#avatar the last airbender#atla#natla

Famous vs Infamous: What Meeting Means
Who is the most famous or infamous person you have ever met? The narrative explores the nature of fame and influence through the story of an encountered actor and an industrialist during a flight. It emphasizes humility and genuine actions over status, highlighting how true respect is earned through significant contributions to society. Famous individuals like Narendra Modi and Ratan Tata are…

The point shouldn't be to identify for sure 100% what is ai art and what isn't. I keep seeing posts advising one to look out for wonky perspective (as if perspective doesn't routinely trip up even the most experienced artists) or to pay attention to fudged detailing (as if impressionism wasn't one of the most influential artistic movements in history), and I think that's coming from a good place but frankly it's a losing battle. Remember when everyone was on about counting the fingers or counting the teeth, and a week later they had that shit ironed out completely? All you're really doing is giving these people more data points to work with to refine their algorithm. It's just going to be constantly shifting goalposts, and at a certain point real artists are going to get exhausted trying to make their art look as not algorithmically generated as possible. It'll be impossible to keep up.
So what should we do? Honestly, I think old practices are still best practices. Find real artists and follow them. Don't repost art, and dont spread reposted art. If something doesn't have a source, skip it. Support artists you like, either by sharing their work directly or donating. And if someone's work looks suspicious? Maybe give them a second look. See some of their other art before jumping to conclusions.
And yes, that means sometimes, you're gonna be tricked. Some people are going to fly under the radar and pass off ai art as their own. And that sucks, and they're liars, but you can't let the obsession with bad actors police real artists out of their communities, or discourage new artists from entering the scene.

genie: as thanks for freeing me i will grant you three wishes
me: awesome. firstly i wish that paul newman and robert redford had been in a hundred movies together throughout their careers beyond butch and sundance and the sting of varying plots, qualities and dynamics. secondly i wish that paul newman had been in some sort of horror b movie that’s sort of a halloween cult classic and was critically panned at the time but is now considered pretty good and influential for the time and recently got a criterion remaster and release, often chosen by actors in the criterion closet as one of their favourite movies. thirdly i wish paul newman had made that gay movie he wanted to make where he starred as a track coach who fell in love with the athlete he was training or whatever it was that got killed by the studio.
genie: you know you can wish for things not pertaining to paul newman. have another wish to try it out
me: i wish doc hudson from cars was real

I visited the world where Gerard Way was visiting family in Minneapolis on 9/11 so he kept his Cartoon Network job instead of becoming a musician.
It's pretty similar to ours. He didn't go into cartoons as you might expect, but he is way more famous in the comic book world.
As for butterfly effects, MCR doesn't exist, so Twilight doesn't exist, which means 50 Shades of Grey doesn't exist. I couldn't find any references to Stephenie Meyer or E. L. James, so either they didn't go into writing or they didn't use those same pen names.
Robert Pattinson was in Harry P*tter and then mainly independent stuff from then on out.
Kristen Stewart is somehow a bigger star than in this world? She was in Red Revenge, 2012 Soviet film about WW3 happening in the 60s and then in the 80s the survivors come over to the US to find out of anything survives of the cowardly US leadership that started the war. (yes, they shoot Reagan. He's out of his mind and it's shot like Old Yeller). She's been in a lot of USSR films since then, as this greatly raised her profile.
Taylor Lautner seems to have become a writer instead of an actor. He wrote one of the later seasons of Firefly, after it went all season-long-arcs. He technically cameo'd in season 6 but it was just as a guy who ran a casino station. He had like three lines, two of which were "get off my station!" and "guards!"
I didn't see any real differences in the music world. Sometimes you take out a band or form a super-group with interdimensional exploration, and it changes the whole field. Like if you take out Nirvana the 90s look very different, or if you help the Back Road Boys form then the 2010s are all about the retro-country revival. Anyway: MCR, as good a band as they are, don't appear to be one of those "linchpin" bands that affect the whole musical landscape.
BTW, the weirdest one of those? Michael Fucking Jackson. He's a super influential musician, inspired so many others, the king of pop, right? NOPE! If his music career is skipped, then it only affects his siblings and the one hit wonder "Somebody's Watching Me" by Rockwell.
Strange, right? There's more downstream time effects on the music industry from taking out David Hasselhoff!

HOW DO I COMPLAIN TO HOYOVERSE?
It's easy, and there are MULTIPLE things you can do! I recommend doing each item on this list.
1. SIGN & SHARE THE PETITION
The petition will be delivered to the appropriate cultural reps, in order to complain to the CCP about the negative impression this is leaving on Chinese companies. Genshin Impact is highly favoured by the government for the positive press it gives the country, and putting pressure on the 'big daddy' is FAR more likely to make Hoyoverse buckle.
As of right now, the petition has nearly 38k signatures.
2. EMAIL HOYOVERSE
Email them directly at [email protected] to state how this has affected your desire to continue playing their games.
3. USE THE IN-GAME SURVEY OR FEEDBACK
Genshin Impact has frequent update surveys, and there is a permanent option to give feedback at any time. You can find it in the Paimon Menu.
4. REVIEW BOMB
Rate Hoyoverse's games, particularly Genshin, with one star on the app store. This has already proven in the past to have an effect, when this caused the team to review the anniversary rewards.
Here is a guide on how to do this!
5. POST IN OFFICIAL HOYOVERSE ACCOUNTS' COMMENTS
Do not be silent! Speak up about your displeasure. It's important that these comments outweigh the rest! Show that we are the MAJORITY.
6. SPEAK UP
Use the tags!
#BoycottHYV #WhyAreTheyWhiteHoyo #GenshinImpact #FixNatlan
Be relentless.
FURTHER DETAILS UNDER THE CUT!
WHAT SHOULD I NOT DO?
The following actions should NOT be taken:
DO NOT spend money on Hoyoverse games.
DO NOT sent threats, to voice actors OR customer service staff.
DO NOT engage with trolls or racists. Block and report.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
It's easy to dismiss this in the face of 'more important' issues in the world at the moment, but Genshin Impact (And by extension, Hoyoverse) is a very influential game and company. It is extremely popular, and directly influences MANY other games and players through this popularity.
This isn't an issue of 'just stop playing'- This is not anger for a game's decisions, it's anger for a precedent. It's a demand that not only should Hoyoverse care about representation, but other, smaller, companies too. If Hoyoverse can get away with it, so can others- But if Hoyoverse is held accountable for their exploitation of culture, then it sets the precedent that other companies have no chance of doing the same.
Like it or not, Hoyoverse has a lot of influence, and the CCP itself values the company for giving China a positive image in other countries. This is bigger than just being mad at character design.
EDIT: It was also pointed out to me that if POC were to simply stop engaging with hostile content, they would have nothing left. 'Just stop playing' isn't fair, plain and simple. POC deserve to play the things that they enjoy WITHOUT being ostracized.
DOES HOYOVERSE LISTEN?
They listen if there's no money lining their pockets, they listen if their reputation is damaged, and they listen if the CCP gets involved. We have direct evidence of this.
Review bombing alone caused Hoyoverse to reconsider the first anniversary rewards.
The CCP forced Hoyoverse to reskin various characters to comply with their laws, which HYV did. (This isn't necessarily a good thing, however, it is still evidence that CCP has influence over them.)
This is by far the largest outcry the company has seen so far, and MANY of HYV's voice actors have spoken out in support for the movement as well. This is not just playerbase complaints, but staff, too.
I recommend following AvenOfStrats on X/Twitter for further updates on the petition's progress, and on other ways to contribute. They also share plenty of resources on why this is important, and guides on how to complain.
