“The soldier,” Thanos said. He flinched a little as one of Natasha’s widow’s stings hit him in the side of the head, but brushed it off as if it was nothing more than a mosquito bite. “The man out of…time.”

Thanos let the last word linger there between them. The Stones set across his knuckles glittered in the fading sunlight as he turned his left hand over, thoughtful.

He was a kid playing with a new toy, the kind of boy who burned the wings off flies with a magnifying glass and a sunbeam. Steve knew the exact instant Thanos realized he could use more than one of the Stones at the same time.

March 1945: With the deaths of Johann Schmidt and Steve Rogers only a month old, the SSR has spent the intervening weeks hunting down the last of Hydra’s holdouts. They lay side by side in silence, watching clouds move across the stars overhead.  Eventually, Steve said, “Ever since I woke up here six years ago, all I wanted was to go back there.  And then I did and all I wanted was to come back here.” Bucky took that in, then said quietly, “Why?” “That’s the only question that matters, isn’t it?” Steve said.  He didn’t answer for a while and Bucky didn’t push him, just held the photograph Steve had given him up over his face and studied it in the dim moonlight while Steve thought. “I always thought that if I could ever go back, I’d just…be able to throw myself back in,” he said finally.  “And the thing is – the thing is that’s what everyone there wanted too.  They wanted the guy who’d gone up in the Valkyrie.” “Only you’re not that guy anymore,” Bucky said, his voice soft. “No,” Steve said, equally quiet. “Or, well, I am, I always will be, but – I’m not just that guy anymore.  And I don’t – I didn’t know how to go back, to be just that guy again.  Even if I wanted to.” “Do you?  Want to, I mean.” “I thought I did,” Steve said.  He tried to smile and couldn’t, but Bucky wasn’t looking at him anyway.  “Maybe I could have been if Nat hadn’t been there.  Sometimes I thought that maybe they were right and I had gone crazy.  Sometimes I wished I had.” “Yeah,” Bucky said, so quietly that Steve might not have heard it except for his enhanced healing. “I get that.”

I can't even express how absolutely insane I felt reading these 1 year apart and realizing they smile at each other. Giggling kicking my feet twirling my hair crying into my pillows screaming hooting and hollering etc etc etc I'd wanted to see this scene for YEARS too, when we first got the previews for Conflict and I realized we'd get a flashback to Adam giving Thanos the reality gem it was like Jim Starlin kicked in my door and started eating me alive. The way it's used to bookend the story and highlight the trust between them like AUGHHH THIS IS LITERALLY WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Bang Yourself Mini Bang is a bang type event where writers are paired with artists to create fanworks together. The theme of this event is all kinds of selfcest, all kinds of art is allowed, and both a reverse bang (artists submit works first) and a normal bang (writers submit works first) will be running.

Minimum requirements:

Fanfiction: 2k words.

Art: Lineart or clean sketch, depending on the style.

Edits: Finished edit or manip.

Crafts: A clear photo of a finished item.

Moodboard: 9 images.

Video: 1 minute.

Gifset: 3 gifs.

Be respectful. This is a selfcest event - we’re all a bit freaky here, so no bashing or bullying is allowed. Treat your fellow participants the way you want to be treated.

Your work must include selfcest, naturally. It doesn’t, however, have to be explicit, and if it is, please tag it properly.

Your work must be fully finished by claims but if it went above limit and you need more time, please send us an ask or a message.

Yes, you can submit multiple works. But for the sake of organization, please do them one by one. You can send us a finished piece and then start on another.

It’s fine to make works for both this event and another as long as the other event is fine with it. However, if you participate in claims and want to collaborate with someone, we ask you to not mix it with any other exchanges or bangs, so you aren’t collaborating with more than one person at once.

Older works can be submitted as long as they follow the rules, including works created for events.

Event restrictions don’t apply if you’re creating solo!

FAQ

What is selfcest?

Selfcest is romantic or sexual activity with an alternate version of oneself, such as a clone or a version of oneself from the past, future, or alternate universe.

What is allowed?

All properly tagged content that has selfcest between Marvel characters is allowed. It is also possible to include selfcest with a crossover character played by the same actor. No tags, themes, characters, or tropes are banned.

Do works have to be explicit?

No, all ratings are accepted.

What counts as selfcest?

We don’t want to overanalyze anyone’s submissions. If you feel your concept is true to the concept of “being romantically involved with another version of yourself”, then it’s good enough for us. We do throw much of doppelganger content under this umbrella. And if you’re still unsure, just send us an ask!

Can there be more than the character and their alternate selves?

Yes, you for example two versions of Peter Parker having a threesome with Deadpool, good to go.

marvel preview #4 with his original origin story is obviously a classic. i’d love an updated version of this story cause obviously with it being the 70s and all some things aged kind of badly but overall it’s zany and weird and i like it when pete is a cock.

guardians of the galaxy (2020) #9 was wonderful. i loved how ewing brought that original origin back around while still acknowledging the bendis gotg (2013) #0.1 version of events. also bi pete confirmation 🥰

annihilation: conquest: star-lord #1 (from 2007 i believe) was the first gotg comic i ever read and i’ll always have the softest spot for it. also, it’s good! it gives a good look at peter’s mental state during the annihilation waves and shows the origins of the team <3 plus. Again. peter is kind of a dick here

star-lord (2017) #6. i just like how he gains some self-awareness in this run and i like how it ended! the dialogue is also nice.

the thanos imperative #6. i mean, basically all of his parts in the thanos imperative but the ending just really solidifies who he is imo

“When was V-J Day?” Bruce asked, frowning. “That’s – Victory over Japan Day, right?  End of the war?” “August 15, 1945,” Steve said.  His fingers flexed and he put the paper he was holding down carefully, as if to keep from creasing it.  “Official surrender was in September.  V-E Day is May 8.  They were in Austria then.” It was his war, Natasha remembered, watching him.  He had deserved to see it end, not just read about it on Wikipedia seventy years later. “And – what?” Tony said warily. “What about you and Romanoff?” Steve’s gaze lifted to him.  His eyes were bleak, looking somewhere else, seeing someone else.  Maybe it was Howard, but Natasha thought it was more likely that he was thinking about that last view he had of the lab the previous evening, all of the people whom he had loved and lost and would never see again except in photographs. After a moment he blinked and looked back down at the typewritten papers stacked in front of him, straightening them carefully.  From where she was sitting, Natasha couldn’t read them, but she recognized the signature on the top page as belonging to Chester Phillips.  Steve’s mouth worked silently; he had to lick his lips before he finally said, “I think they really did just forget.”
