The Second and Third Readings of the Marriage Equality Bill in the Upper House took place today, June 18th. (Senator Wanchalerm, who was appointed as one of the members of the 27 person committee deliberating the bill, announced during June 1st's Pride Celebrations that the process was being expedited.)

The Senate voted 130-4 to pass the Marriage Equality Bill!!!

My enthusiasm for GL is really being challenged by the constant reminder of how narrow feminine ideals are in Asia. It's not as imposingly apparent when there are like 5 women in a BL series and three of them are mothers and aunts. But looking at a lineup of 10 women and they're all just... ....I totally realize that BL is The Same. I like Pond and Phuwin and think they look different from each other but pretending that every single branded pair isn't just the same archetype of man would be hypocritical. It seems like in the decade or so that I haven't been living in Asia we have moved only in the direction of making beauty ideals for men stricter instead of making them more relaxed for everyone overall and I find this situation somehow really fucking disheartening.

I don't know that this is a problem I necessarily want a solution to or something that can be solved. I will also very much continue watching GLs. It's just knowing that Thailand - at this point in time - only allows Silvy to be The Fattest girl on screen who is allowed to be sexy is just -
