Thai opposition MP sentenced to 6 years in prison for insulting monarchy
A 29-year-old opposition MP in Thailand, Rukchanok Srinork, has been sentenced to six years in prison on charges of insulting the monarchy in the Southeast Asian country.
Srinork, a Move Forward Party lawmaker from Bangkok, was found guilty by a criminal court of two counts under the Insult to Majesty Act as well as the Computer Crimes Act, according to local media.
The MP, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, was immediately detained by police under a court order. She was later released on bail by the court, pending an appeal against the sentence. She was asked to refrain from the activities for which she was convicted.
Prosecutors also accused her of publishing reports about the COVID-19 vaccine that expressed “contempt and hatred towards” the country’s king.

The story of the romance between the King of Siam (now Thailand) and the widowed British school teacher Anna Leonowens during the 1860s. Anna teaches the children and becomes romanced by the King. This story departs pretty drastically from the original text and turns into more of a sentimental love story tempered by treasonous activities from within the King’s extended family. The principle performances are both gentle and sensitive, though Jodie Foster’s accent is a little forced, and Bill Stewart puts in a good effort as the dodgy British trader “Mycroft Kincaid”. It is just too far removed from the original for me, but I’d watch it again….

rahu-ketu (cinderella-prince charming)
So after looking into the spoiled brat archetype, which turned out to be Ketuvian, I found another handful of characters who come from old money being portrayed by Mula natives specifically. Coming from Jyestha, the billionaire/fame nakshatra, and into Mula, it explains the aftermath of the massive accumulation of Jyestha.
Remembering that Shatabhisha is also the Cinderella nakshatra (reference > Claire Nakti's Patreon Shatabhisha-Cinderella article), I immediately thought of the film Khoobsurat which I watched ages ago. And there were Cinderella themes surrounding the main female character played by Sonam Kapoor. She is Shatabhisha Moon.
Her love interest is literal royalty, being born into an extremely wealthy family. Expecting Ketu influence, after this list which I keep extending, I checked Fawad Khan's chart, as he plays the prince. And his Mula Moon placement validated this observation of mine even more.
Their pairing made me remember the Chinese drama Meteor Garden. And there, Mula native Dylan Wang plays a typically domineering Ketuvian who runs his entire school. The character was literally born into wealth. His mother is very neglectful and he has no boundaries or self-control at all, being the literal spoiled brat he is.
In the story, he meets a Rahuvian who is the first person to ever stand up against his tyranny. Much like her love interest, she's played by a double nodal native, Shen Yue.
The dynamic is very abusive, so I couldn't finish the drama, but she technically is 'Cinderella'. She comes from a poorer background, much like Sonam Kapoor's character in Khoobsurat.
Then onto the Thailand remake, F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers. It is Mula Sun native Vachirawit Chivaaree playing the same tyrannical spoiled king baby Ketuvian from Meteor Garden.
He was born into extreme riches, and he was raised with zero boundaries, doing whatever the hell he wants as he runs his school. His mother is neglectful, as expected.
And the person who courageously stands up against him is the character played by Tontawan Tantivejakul, she is also Rahuvian.
She comes from a poor family, unlike him. He falls for her first, and her Rahuvian coolness makes him less & less unruly.
Then, in the Cinderella film, Ever After, Shatabhisha Sun Drew Barrymore stars in this retelling of Cinderella. And, Shatabhisha ASC Brandy Norwood also played Cinderella in 1997.
In Ever After, her Prince is portrayed by a Mula Moon native, much like in Khoobsurat.
Mula Moon Dougray Scott plays Prince Henry, heir to the kingdom.

I figured I might as well make this a little blog series, since there will be more to address in upcoming episodes.
Before we dive into the nitty gritty... I really want to acknowledge the production value of The Loyal Pin and all the hard work that went into making it. The characters, the sets, the wardrobe, the dialect... everything was an honest representation of a historically accurate period drama. The first episode was perfectly curated to establish the series' universe. I was really impressed with Becky in particular because I've been following her since GAP, and I know how much she struggled with reacquainting herself to the language when she moved back home to Thailand from New Zealand. To have the added pressure of maintaining a period accurate dialect was not easy for her. Freen has proudly commented on how hard Becky worked to really learn the script... and it shows. Well done, Bec Bec!!!
Let's Talk Thai Culture...
We'll start off by breaking down Thai Royal Language Terminology (คำราชาศัพท์)
The Savettavarit Royal House Consists of 1) His Royal Highness, The Prince Thai Royal Title: พระองค์ชาย (pronounced phra-ong chai) reserved for direct male descendants of the king
2) Her Serene Highness, Princess Alisa Thai Royal Title: หม่อมเจ้าหญิง (pronounced mom-jao ying) a non-inherited title for being the wife of a prince (abbr. M.C.)
3) His Serene Highness, Prince Anantavut Thai Royal Title: หม่อมเจ้าชาย (pronounced mom-jao chai) a title for male children of a prince, meaning secondary prince (abbr. M.C.)
4) His Serene Highness, Prince Anon Thai Royal Title: หม่อมเจ้าชาย (pronounced mom-jao chai) a title for male children of a prince, meaning secondary prince (abbr. M.C.)
5) Her Serene Highness, Princess Anilaphat Thai Royal Title: หม่อมเจ้าหญิง (pronounced mom-jao ying) a title for female children of a prince, meaning secondary princess (abbr. M.C.)
The Kasidit Noble Family Consists of 1) Her Serene Highness, Princess Pattamika Thai Royal Title: หม่อมเจ้าหญิง (pronounced mom-jao ying) a non-inherited title for being the 'adopted' sister of the prince (abbr. M.C.)
2) Lady Pilanthita Thai Noble Title: หม่อมราชวงศ์ (pronounced mom rat-cha-wong) a title assumed by 'commoner' children of หม่อมเจ้า (M.C.), meaning their ancestry can be traced back to a king (abbr. M.R.) The Common Address: You'll hear certain characters use the term ท่าน (pronounced than). It is the formal address between members of royalty/nobility to acknowledge certain members of higher rank. It essentially means "Your Highness". For example, regarding Princess Pattamika, Pin addresses her 'adoptive' mother (f.) as ท่านหญิง (than ying) and Anil refers to her 'aunt' as ท่านอา (than ah*). *อา (ah) is how one would refer to their father's younger sibling
Another term you might have heard was เพคะ (pronounced phe-kha). It is less formal and used to express familiarity. Both Prik and Lady Pin use this response to address Princess Anil as "Your Highness". Princess Alisa can also be heard using this phrase in conversation with, and to respond to, her husband.
She is considered a Noble 'Commoner', so Lady Pin would be formally addressed as คุณหญิง (khun ying) given her title. However, Pin is depicted as being more reserved and adherent to social structure. This is very telling of her social class amongst the higher ranking royal family who took her in. Pin has a lot more to lose than Anil should she stray from class expectations, and they did a wonderful job establishing that in the first episode. (I'm sure this will come into play even more as the characters age up... and I'm very much looking forward to it.)
Lower ranked servants/attendants (บ่าว - bao) can be heard using the term เจ้า (jao) to indicate their showing of respect when addressing someone of superior status.
Pronunciation and Formality: Without even knowing the Thai language, you might have noticed that the characters heavily enunciate their dialect when speaking. It's an accurate depiction of a "prim" and "proper" royal family. Even how Anil addresses her two brothers is very formal: พี่ชายรอง (meaning second eldest brother) and พี่ชายใหญ่ (meaning eldest brother). If you're going to do a period drama... this is how it's done!!!
Should we discuss the Thai dishes highlighted in this episode? ...Why not?
สองมาลีลอยแก้ว (pronounced song mali loy kaew) is a Thai dessert comprised of watermelon and mamuang dong (มะม่วงดอง - pickled mangoes). The fruit is carved into floral shapes and arranged to "float" in sugar syrup with ice, hence its name... which literally translates to 'Two Flowers Floating in Glass'.
นำ้ปลาหวาน (pronounced nam pla whan) is a Thai dipping sauce comprised of palm sugar, fermented fish sauce, shallots and chili. It's usually paired with firm and tart fruits... like green mangoes. (It's an acquired taste hehe)
The last thing I wanted to mention are Thai night markets and fairs (ตลาดกลางคืน). They are still hugely popular for social outings and, like the series has shown, are comprised of various stalls offering street food, clothes, accessories, attractions, etc. They're very popular amongst tourists, as well.
I hope this wasn't too overwhelming with information... but I just wanted to be as thorough as possible because this series is shaping up to be, what is essentially, a love letter to Thai tradition.

I feel like Pattamika is getting some unfair hate. I understand how some (western) people might be put off by her politically incorrect values: the period-accurate internalized homophobia, the corporal punishment, and just her general strictness that can seem over the top to a modern western audience.
But you have to put this into perspective. This isn't modern America, it's 1950s Thailand. 1950s Thai royalty no less. Family honor and reputation is a big deal for anyone, especially the royal family. She is under a huge amount of pressure to maintain a standard of proper behavior and raise her neice accordingly. Gay marriage simply isn't an option. She sees Pin going down the same path that brought her only pain and does what she thinks she has to.
And even then, as awful as the whole wedding arc is, she tries to find small ways to show compassion to Pin and Anin within the rigid societal framework that restricts them. She goes out of her way to let Pin keep the ring Anin gave her even if it makes insecure douchecanoe Kuea feel threatened. She doesn't personally approve of the ring and what it represents, but she's kind enough to compromise on some things to make the horrifying ordeal of comphet as bearable as possible for Anin.
Even the infamous "I want to see if you will stop breathing" line is not motivated by malice but informed by her own trauma. She had to see the woman she loved die without any of the support Pin and Anin have. She shouldn't have taken her trauma out on Pin in that moment, but it is understandable that she would see her problems as melodramatic in comparison.
What I especially love about her is how she responds when operation comphet falls apart. She doesn't double down or blame anyone else. She takes full responsibility for her mistakes and expresses admiration for Anin's bravery in openly declaring her love for another woman, something she never did in her time. She only holds off on apologizing to Pin because she is ashamed to face her after failing her.
She's a wonderful complex character, and she deserves to be appreciated, flaws and all. This is exactly the kind of complex female character we want.
She's also just really hot, guys. I'm sorry if you can't see the apeal of a dommy milf spanking a younger woman but there is beauty everywhere for those with eyes to see it.

Guardian Lion
Cambodia or Thailand, 11th–early 12th century
Guardian lions flanked the main approaches to the sanctuary of most Khmer temples and were also placed along the stairways and on terraces. The lion, representing royalty, strength, and courage, was the personal symbol of the Khmer kings, who were believed to be gods as well. Therefore, the lion as guardian of the sacred precinct suggested the ability to ward off evil through both divine and royal protection.

I really hate fics that pull a “zuko or azula cut their hair because they don’t wanna look like their parents” and I have no clue why.
Probably because hair in the Fire Nation (and cultures which the FN are inspired by) is considered extremely important and sacred culturally, I don't even think we see someone from the FN who has short hair (other than zuko + iroh and their crew in s1, or the sun warriors though their hair is also cultural)
The FN is predominantly based on Chinese, Japanese, and thai culture,
In ancient China, hair (and skin i think) cannot be damaged because they are considered to be given by the parents (i can kind of see why people might think zuko and azula would cut their hair considering their extremly harmful relationship with ozai but i still dont think it would really be that plausable)
In ancient Japan, long hair is associated with status, most nobles would have long hair, considering zuko and azula are royalty that would definitely apply to them
In ancient Thailand men and women would typically keep their hair long, I don't know if this was for any specific cultural reasons but certain hairstyles were considered cultural and still are (zukos phoenix tail from s1 is a thai hairstyle)
I don't think it's ever been confirmed specifically why hair in the FN is considered sacred but it definitely is so it is odd that some fanfic writers will have zuko or azula cut their hair just so they don't look like their parents especially when we see that cutting ones hair is seen as shamefull (zukos hairstyle in s1) I can understand a bit more in modern aus but still it is kind of weird when it is canon hair is extremely important (not even just in the FN we see all cultures in atla have some type of cultural and traditional customs surrounding hair)
i do think its odd that seemingly some people in the fandom will respect other cultures hair customs (the water tribes, the air temples) more than the Fire nations or maybe that's something I've just noticed I don't know, but to me it does seem insensitive when people have zuko or azula cut their hair
(If anything is incorrect pls let me know!! Also i hope this makes sense)
