It's always a bit like drinking from a firehose visiting Terry's collection, and last night's visit was no exception. Terry is cooking up an article on an absolutely unique, one-of-a-kind piece of #Fender history for @fretboardjournal��magazine, and asked me to snap a few photos. See Terry's story for some BTS content (you will get a hint of what the article will be about, and even get to see what I look like lol!)

If you don't know Terry Foster, you may have heard of the book he co-authored with Martin & Paul Kelly called "Fender The Golden Age 1946 - 1970", which is essential reading for any vintage guitar afficionado, and the definitive history of the Fender company during it's heyday.

If you *do* know Terry Foster, you will then also know that this photo shows some of the LEAST rare pieces in his vast collection of all things Fender. I can't even begin to describe the depth and breadth of the historical treasures Terry has gathered. He has gone lightyears beyond simply collecting Fender guitars and amps (although he has those too), into Fender ephemera of all types...from production prototypes to dealer signs and chachkas to historical company documents to plans and notes handwritten by company officers to business cards (some spanning specific employees' entire careers with Fender and beyond!) to Fender company Christmas Cards to unseen/unpublished personal photographs of, and taken by, Leo Fender. And this just scratches the surface...the list goes on, and on, AND ON! You have to see what Terry has to believe it, and it will boggle your mind. Hopefully he will write another book someday soon...

Anyhoo...after last night's mind-blowing collection tour, I am completely exhausted. I am going back to bed. Enjoy these lovely offsets for #fenderfriday!😂

To most people, Teresa Foster was an irritant. Even her best friend Will sometimes wished she could quiet her mind for just a moment. But Terry couldn’t. She loved to invent, to constantly experiment. Sometimes, she craved failure because she could learn from it. Failure sprouted new ideas, success let them fester.

‘Do you think,’ Terry asked, arms spread wide as she walked heel-to-toe along a crack in the pavement, ‘mermaids would like space?’ She glanced over at Will, but there was a faraway look in his eyes. His thoughts were somewhere else entirely. Probably, as usual, with his mother. At least, that was what she guessed from the little furrow between his brows; the way his mouth seemed ever so slightly downturned. ‘Will?’

‘Sorry?’ He blinked before looking at Terry, the furrow didn’t ease up even a little. ‘What?’

Terry heaved a deep sigh. ‘Nothing,’ she murmured, carefully lowering her arms and stepping off her makeshift tightrope. ‘We doing homework club at yours?’

Will was shaking his head before she’d even finished her question.

‘All right,’ she said brightly, refusing to let it get her down. Will worked too hard, she wasn’t sure he even realised it. But she also knew he needed to do this. That there was no way he’d relax until he was at home, looking after his mother without the eyes of someone else on them. Even his best friend. ‘Call if you need me, yeah?’

‘Obviously,’ he vowed, shooting her a grateful smile before hurrying home.

‘Liar,’ she murmured, watching her best friend. Her mind was already whirring, trying to desperately come up with the perfect invention to help him; something that would help ease his mother’s anxieties and give him a moment to breathe.

Today is Dungeons & Daddies’s 5th Anniversary!

I haven’t been listening for nearly that long but the podcast and all its characters means a lot to me. Happy Anniversary!!!

Throwing the cropped sections under the cut because there’s a lot of stuff going on and I know Tumblr likes to throw half the pixel quality out the window. And also so I can ramble a bit about this piece!!!

This piece has been months in the making, possibly an entire year. And by that I mean I’ve had a sketch of the comp scribbled on my whiteboard for ages because I wanted to save this specifically for 5th anni art. Now onto design stuff!

(First off a random thought: I really love how the garlic knot came out, I kind of want it as an enamel pin.)

I knew I wanted to make this a stained glass piece since the beginning, but I was also going to add flowers at one point but quickly dropped the idea. It felt like too much and I also didn’t want to fuss over flower language assignments for everyone. I was also going to add Doodler tentacles, but also dropped that idea pretty early. Kind of on accident, right at the end, I figured out how to make it even more stained glass-like but taking a duplicated lineart underneath the regular layer and turning the brightness all the way down, then setting it to overlay and adding a guassian blur. It’s very subtle but it adds that tiny bit of depth that makes it look more real. As for shading on the lineart/gold, I tried adding more highlight on the characters who died but once I evened everything out it wasn’t as noticeable anymore so I’m throwing that thought here so the attempt at least known lol.

The order of characters only changed a little bit from my original comp, I flipped the Wilsons and the Oaks so the rainbow could work. As for the anchors, specifically in season 2, I lined them up to the teens since the season 1 anchors lined up with each dad:

Tony —> Scary: his death was the beginning of Scary’s betrayal arc and also Willy killed him.

Guitar Pick —> Taylor: it’s not really aligned with Taylor at all, but the anchor was with Glenn so I put it next to his blunt.

Scroll —> Normal: was only because it was the last left to give him, but there’s the whole scene of him and Hermie in the Green Room so it still works!

Garlic Knot —> Link: one of two that he broke, but the more significant of the two with him telling Grant he never wants to see him again.

Small notes on the season 1 anchors: I put the layer of mold in the overnight oats but you can’t really tell with the overlay. And to make the supper bowl more interesting I added the fantasy sodas mix they dumped into it. The lure of actually drawn before so I just traced my own art lol.

As for the other smaller triangles, it took me a bit to figure out what I wanted to put there. I didn’t even think of adding the vehicles until two days ago but I’m so glad I did. I don’t really have my own take on the mascot version of the Doodler (yet?) so I borrowed the design from one of the stickers in their merch shop. Teeny was terrifying as just a front facing head so I made him cute again.

In the outer circles, I put what I felt was the most significant quotes for each family. I really wanted to use “It’s okay to be angry, it’s not okay to be cruel” but it was just a little too long.

Small Hands- Radical Face (2/??) Pages 3-4

In honor of the first episode release I'm catching live, here's the first two pages of a S1 Dungeons and Daddies comic.

Can you imagine coming home to this wall every night? This just a small part of @terry_foster's collection but it's enough to make any #Fender afficionado weep tears of pure joy. I snapped this pic last week on a break from our photo session to document something in Terry's collection a thousand times rarer than anything you see in this pic for his upcoming @fretboardjournal article. Stay tuned for that... 😉 On the top shelf you are looking at a selection of early Champions from the late 40s, and Champs from the early 50s, incl. a wide panel tweed on the left and a small box narrow panel on the far right. Wait "small box" Champ...what the heck is that?? Did you know there were two version of the narrow panel Champ? The earlier ones came in a smaller box with a 6" speaker, and the later ones in a larger box with an 8" speaker . I learned that from visiting Terry's collection BTW! 😉 On the second shelf we see not one but THREE 1945 K&F amplifiers! These are PRE-Fender Company Fenders and to see three in one collection is pretty incredible! Speaking of pretty incredible, next to (and below) the K&Fs are FOUR Woodies. The Woodies were the very earliest amps manufactured under the Fender brand name circa 1946/47 and they came in two cabinet finishes (natural and dark stained) with two different grill cloths (red and blue). Looks like we have two Princetons (the smaller ones, 8" speaker) and two Model 26 Deluxes (10" speaker) here. There was also one larger model with a 12" speaker called the "Professional". On the bottom shelf to the right of the blue-grill woodies, we have a couple of TV fronts tweeds (A #Deluxe and a #Princeton I believe?) and on the very bottom is a pair of pristine Princetons, narrow panel tweed (left) from the late 50s, and Brown panel (right) from early 60s.
