Billy Loomis & Stu Macher

Frankly, Stu is actually quite a big fan of body modification, he thinks piercings and tattoos are really neat, so he absolutely loves all of yours – and the fact that you do them yourself mesmerises him

He also takes the chance to finally get a tongue piercing, and he is super happy about it when you do it for him

Billy has never cared much about these things, but he can’t deny that your tattoos and piercings piqued his interest when he first saw you – and when he found out that they were all your own creations, he was just as entranced as Stu was

Whenever you went about giving yourself a new piercing, they’d ask to keep you company and watch you do it – you don’t mind and let them; in fact you really enjoy it

Stu really likes to get involved and help you out with whatever he can – sterilising your utensils, giving you a hand whichever way you may need, while Billy just looks on, smiling to himself

Even though you have plenty of ideas for tattoos that you want to put on your skin, you sometimes ask them both for designs – you love them and their minds, and they come up with such wonderful images, symbols, etc. it only feels right to wear something they made on your body for the world to see (or not, depending on where the tattoo is situated after all)

Bo Sinclair

Your body modifications definitely interest him a lot and he thinks they make you look even more beautiful

Loves kissing you all over your body and running his tongue over your piercings and mouthing at them

Traces your tattoos any chance he gets – it soothes him, so he’ll especially do it when he’s angry

Admires that you do them yourself and enjoys observing the process; he also helps you out however he can – he’ll take any excuse to get his hands on you

He’ll let you tattoo his arms and chest with little designs he’s come up with or seen in your folders that he liked

Lester Sinclair

So in love with you and everything about you – he is super impressed with your skills of turning your entire body into art like that

He really enjoys the way the piercings on your lips feel when you kiss, or when he touches you and feels them against his fingers; it’s so exciting to him

Loves all your tattoos and the different meanings behind them, or how they came to be, what inspired which, etc. – listening to you telling him these things makes him really happy and also feel special

Sometimes he’ll scribble or write something down in a stroke of genius and sheepishly hand it to you as he asks if you would like to either tattoo it on yourself, or on him (or both)

Definitely would ask you to pierce his earlobes – he was always fascinated by earrings especially and now he could get them!

Vincent Sinclair

You’re both artists and he really admires the way you use your body as a canvas

He’s very fascinated by the various tattoos and piercings you’ve got and regularly spends hours just looking at them and touching them gently with such deep appreciation in his eye

Would ask you to tattoo a design he’s had on his mind for a while onto his skin

Really likes the way your piercings look, feel and make you look so much more unique compared to every other person he’s ever seen – it’s strangely soothing, because he obviously looks different too, and it makes him feel less ashamed around you

Will always watch you add to your collection of tattoos and piercings – he just enjoys watching someone else make art for once

Bubba Sawyer/Leatherface

In a way, he sees your body modifications as something similar to his masks – they’re art, you make them yourself, and they’re a part of you

Asks you to pierce his ears, because just like Lester, he’s always been so fascinated by earrings and he always wanted to wear them – especially when he chose to wear his more feminine attire

It’s really stimulating to him to feel you up and stroke his fingers over your piercings

Is absolutely mesmerised by your tattoos – they’re so beautiful and your skin isn’t plain like all the other people’s he’s met, it’s just so exciting all around

Enjoys watching you do it; it’s so nice to just sit there and quietly admire you as you work

Chop Top Sawyer

Super excited about your piercings especially – he really likes to get his mouth on them!

Asks you to pierce his tongue, because he likes the way it feels

Loves to make suggestions for designs or where you should pierce yourself next

He does enjoy watching you do it, but he’ll also try to convince you to let him poke into your skin (you may let him do it once after he’s worn you down enough)

Some day he shows his favourite badge to you and asks you to tattoo it on the two of you, as a symbol for your love – it is so strangely romantic and you really love doing it (especially when it doesn’t stay at just one of these matching tattoos)

Nubbins Sawyer

In contrast to Chop Top, he rather traces all your body modifications with his fingers – it’s a very enjoyable sensation to him

He has an almost hungry look in his eyes when he watches you pierce or tattoo yourself and when you ask him if perhaps he’d like you to do something to him he declines – he just enjoys looking

Some of the animal bones he’s found actually become part of your tattoo designs eventually, because they remind you of him and in a way, they just look gorgeous

He certainly admires the art behind it all and loves to hear you talk about all the different inspirations for tattoos you have, or why you pierced certain areas – even if there is no “real reason” behind it, he enjoys the fact that you just do it

Takes a ton of pictures of your tattoos and piercings up close and decorates his room with them

Charles Lee Ray/Chucky

He really enjoys the fact that you do these body modifications all by yourself

Loves to admire your tattoos and piercings all over your body, especially if they are at places that only he is able to see them up close

He likes to be present when you decide to pierce yourself especially, something about it is just so weirdly soothing, yet exciting, to him

Makes sure he gives you some inspiration for new tattoos (sometimes he’ll even see something on his victims that he think you might enjoy and shows it to you)

Would fucking kill you if you ever told anyone about it, but he loves playing with your piercings and just touching them gently, gingerly stroking his fingers over the jewellery and also your tattoos, just outlining their shapes lazily – this goes in hand with his aforementioned admiration

hiii if your comfortable, could you possibly walk us through what designing a character is like? like the steps you go through? i really admire your cahracter designs and since its something i struggle with, it'd be nice to know your process :]

Oh boy, my process is a bit of a mess, but I'm going to try my best to say what goes through my brain.

I redesigned Lizzie like 5 times in the past few weeks because I couldn't find a design that was appealing, so I think she's a good one to talk about.

Since we already have a base (read: personality), I usually start with a pose that fits their personality, then figure out clothes. I settle on a body type before hand (that's something purely from headcanons, making an original character is more chaotic to do)

The first one that I did has a very awkward pose, the silhouette isn't clear and not really telling of anything on her.

Silhouettes are very important (and why character designers start by doing that first instead of... jumping in like I did)

You should be able to get who it is, and what their personality is just from the silhouettes, plus have it clear enough that you get the pose (empty spaces are really important! it helps the understanding of the picture and pose)

Going back to Lizzie, I restarted all over again (2nd design in that first drawing), got rid of the buns, kept the same dress. Pose is nice, silhouette passes, but I thought the simple dress just?? Did not fit a giant fish goddess... So I took the pose and restarted the clothes all over again (I loved the dress, but its just ehhh on her)

So for clothes inspiration, Pinterest is your best friend honestly. I have a complicated relationship with Pinterest, but for finding inspo it is literally the best thing. (I've also been using ArtStation a bit more lately though). Make pinterest boards for characters, or at least different boards for general vibes . You can also make moodboards for every design you're doing. (I often do these, or at least slap my reference pictures onto the canvas, but I won't show them as I sometimes use art and don't want to repost stuff)

I did a mix of like several clothes / character designs that I found cool, then did put them all next to each other to see which one I liked more.

Now we can jump on the second important thing: shapes!

If you've watched like any youtube tutorial on chara design they will tell you this: cercles are soft and kind, rectangles are rough and sturdy, and triangles have something mischevious (its often linked to evilness as well). When you design a character, you should write down next to them like 2 to 5 words that describes their personality, and associates those traits with those shapes.

Though do not be afraid to mix up shapes (especially if you tend to have a more realistic art style); if your character is kind and generous, them having a few squares isn't going to ruin everything.

My Scott design is very triangular, but he has a few squares and circles to break it a bit.

Fish hybrids would usually be triangular as well, but by giving soft edges to him, he ends up looking much .. well softer.

I won't describe everything there, but you get the idea (I hope).

While I did end up chosing her clothes by asking people, I do think its worth looking at Lizzie's shapes.

I draw her face very round, same for her eyes , and the two bottom rows makes her look too... serious? Like it isn't the Lizzie that tries to scam everyone. I chose the 2nd one mostly because the 1st one had too simple clothes (what I was trying to avoid), but I know many people liked the 1st one better.

I just really like my clothes to have tons of details. Which can be a flaw? But my biggest inspiration lately is League of Legends, so I enjoy adding unnecessary details that would look cool in a splash art I will never draw.

Yay! We got a proper sketch now! Unfortunately my color picking process is extremely chaotic. It consists of finding a base color that I color pick from an art that I like (usually the skin color), then basing my whole palette around it. I can only suggest to not be afraid to color pick from art that you like, and before putting proper base colors, messily put the colors that you want, they might not all end up looking good next to each other and you want to easily change it. I would suggest to learn color theory as well, but I'm not going to lie I've always winged that part lmao

Loving your analyses of Astarion's behaviour and character so far! It has really reaffirmed in my eyes just how much of a bastard he really is. (I say that fondly, of course.) Do you have any thoughts on why the general reaction on tumblr has leaned so much towards woobifying him? After looking at his actual (explicit and implicit) morals in game it seems quite odd that some people are reading him as an edgy soft boi who just needs a hug from the right person to fix him.

Thank you very much! I really enjoy seeing chars in a deep way. It makes me change my opinion on them, sometimes. That's why I like to do these analysis, even though it's a lot of work for a person who doesn't speak English as a native.

Lol, please, I won't be offended. Astarion is a bastard in the whole sense of the word, lol.

However, I find Astarion an interesting evil (evil neutral imo) char to explore the narration of “abuser who found a greater abuser”, with all the topics I talked about in those posts. I would feel a bit disappointed if Larian suddenly changes him into a man who always had a gold heart (because for that, you need to give hints, even in EA, and none of that has been seen so far).

An example of how this is done is with Shadowheart, she is evil and she supports a lot of cruelty that Astarion does too, but we got meta-knowledge (and not so much meta when we see her heavily drunk after killing the tieflings) that gives us enough reasons to believe she has some heart in her, despite Shar and her teachings. I do not support the idea of “she is a softie”, because she is not, but she doesn't have the same level of cruelty nor revels in murder so much as Astarion does. They represent different degrees of evilness. What plays in her favour is her face, which gives the idea of more softness than she truly has; the same happens with Astarion. Lae'Zel is less cruel than Astarion in general, with more logical reasons to be so because her brainwashed culture made her to be more pragmatic than a taster of cruelty, and yet, she receives a lot of more hate in the fandom... and it is clear to me why: she is not “beautiful” in the traditional white euro-centric standard sense.

And this is my point to answer your question (remember all this is personal opinion): I think there are many reasons why people woobify Astarion (not only in tumblr, but also in Reddit or in Larian Forums, it's a big part of the EA fandom).

First and foremost, I believe it's his appearance. If he were a bugbear or a goblin, few in this fandom would give a thought about his abuse, his pain, Cazador, etc. They would focus on his “bastard” side and leave it at that (again, Lae'Zel has this treatment). I want to make clear that I'm not questioning people's taste, everyone can like whatever they want to. I'm saying that, for me, there it proof enough to sustain this idea that Astarion is woobified because he is beautiful: when you read that a lot of people in this fandom never had an interest in Larian's previous games, or isometric rpgs, or even turn-based combat games (there are some people who are giving feedback against the game being a turned-based combat one! It's the nonsense because it's basically Larian's style), but they bought bg3 because they saw Astarion, even though they knew nothing about him.... All this, clearly, shows to me that a lot of people approached this game for only one char, for only his design (a big amount of them say it explicitly), and it is not far-fetched to know that people justify more easily beautiful villains than ugly ones. We can explore a lot of examples of this in many fandoms. People can love villains because they have real complex reasons to be so (like Loghain in DAO), but they also can like whimsical villains just because they are “hot”. I feel this is Astarion's case, he is a “beautiful villain” who apparently has always been evil. His reasons for his whimsical evilness is more like “it's always been in his nature”. Unless the family part has a different role in his backstory (mirror option) and it's not a mere line for a player to play a “good aligned” Astarion when picked as Origin. I don't like to read much about it in that scene because the game still doesn't have companion Tags; those options in the mirror can be there just for the player to pick, flavoured with each origin, but not necessarily the three of them are canon. This will be seen once we have the companion tags activated as it happened in DOS2.

What we can say for sure is that Larian knew what they were doing when they picked Astarion's design; they choose a dangerous white guy with white hair and evil alignment: an archetype that catches a lot of people in many fandoms.

Part of his woobyfication process has a deep root there, in my opinion. Again, if he were a bugbear, a goblin, a githyanki, a monster-humanoid... we would not have 90% of the EA fandom collapsed with his image, or Larian focused on him to the point that after 4 patches he had new scenes, lines, corrections, and development, while Wyll is still there, sitting in the bench of “the less developed chars” (with around 2k less lines than the rest of the chars, and his personal quest bugged since the first day). Yes, I don't like the preference on one single companion when I am seeing the “future Beast” (from DOS2) in Wyll.

Second, he is a vampire. Vampires are a great element in any fantasy narrative. You know you will have a lot of fans behind a vampire char. Not by chance Vampire The Masquerade is one, if not the most important product of White Wolf, which keeps still giving them a lot of profit despite being decades old. Vampires are always a good element of personal horror, of lack of control of your own body, and also an allegory of abuse, power, and rape. This concept of “being a monster without control” that they embody helps a bit more for the woobification.

Third, people tend to mix a lot headcanon with what a character gives us as canon. We can have a long useless discussion about which is more worthy: canon or headcanon, or about why one should or should not respect canon, but putting all that discussion aside, and considering the previous two points, I see that a small part of his woobyfication comes from the fact that people love denial and self-projection instead of analysing of what they are given (and let's be honest, we know in tumblr, reddit and others social networks, people lack of reading comprehension skills, which makes analysis all about self projection without a real effort in understanding the character's perspective. It's all about the player unilateral perspective. How can you analyse a char you didn’t play with or explored in all its paths? ).

So if their beautiful character is behaving in a way they don't want to, they start considering him “random” (I read this so much that confuses me, because Astarion has clear patterns for everyone who wants to see them, like the rest of the companions. He is not random, he follows pretty well all what I listed here, that list helps you to predict what he will disapprove or approve) so they end up filling this apparent “randomness” with headcanons and self-projections. Don't get me wrong, I don't despise headcanons, I love them, I have a lot of them and create with them. But I also like honest analysis and separate what I want from what I get from a company (to correctly give them feedback, otherwise I will be giving them my headcanons).

If you don't want an aspect of a given char, and you want to deny it, it's perfectly fine. Do it, it's your entertainment, but be honest with the fandom about it, acknowledge this is a personal denial you enjoy. And mainly, don't use headcanons and self-projections to attack the rest of the chars you don't like in their own tags. We know how aggressive some people in this fandom are, and it's a bit frustrating to see aggression without the slightest effort in understanding the character they hate.

There is also something sad to say, related to self-projection, that contributes to Astarion's woobyfication too: a lot of players are survivors of abuse who connect with him from trauma, and I can understand if denying his past is a way to help them to release any kind of pain or need for vengeance against their abusers. It's a natural and totally understandable projection. The woobyfication, then, ends up in an intense self-projection where they give to the char something that they needed because their own trauma.

This is why I would like Larian to give us other survivor chars that people can project onto, whose stories are really about survivors of abuse who were not evil in the beginning. Because I feel a lot of people approached Astarion as a narration of a “victim who will become a victimiser” or as a “bad behaved victim”, instead of what I think it's shown: an abuser who found a greater abuser (and his story is about punishment of the abuser and the concept of justice in a world which has none), so trauma survivors will end up with disappointment if they think Astarion is something similar to the representation of what they experienced. Plus, vampirism is never good to use as allegories of abusers/victims because the relationship Sire/Childe is too sick and twisted. So, again, this is a mere opinion from all what I've been reading since the game came out.

I hope Larian sticks to the narration they seem to follow with Astarion: an abuser who found a greater one, and now wants to become the next Cazador, and this woobifycation doesn't change the real potential of a dark deep story that I believe they want to give us: not every char is redeemable, and sometimes evilness is capricious. We had chars like these in bg1 and bg2 after all.

Apologies for the late response! Say no more Mizu. I gotchu fam! If I’m beingcompletely honest with you, I don’t have much to say about this episode mostly in the sense that, even after processing it for an entire day, I’m still riding the high of it. I will say overall that I enjoyed this episode so I think for the most part, this time I’m just only going to mention the two key parts that I enjoyed the most about this episode, if that’s okay:

JNPR RISES

First of all, as you’ve probably seen by now from my blog—a wild cute farm boy was sighted in this episode. Naturally this made this squiggle meister very very happy. 

Going in CH5 especially following the last episode, what I mostly wantedout of this new chapter on Oscar’s side was mostly to see him show up. I honestly felt like a mom whose kid went away to summer camp and hasn’t seen them in weeks. I just wanted to see Oscar to be reminded that he’s still in the PLOT (unlike certain other characters *coughsMariacoughs*). But I ended up getting more than I bargained for.

This episode showed Oscar teaming up with JNR in an all fours team battle against an Atlesian huntsmen team I’ve been waiting to make a comeback since V3. 

RWBY BROUGHT BACK THE FNKI! 

Seriously it was SO GREAT seeing Neon and Flynt returning. I was worried that with our heroes spending time mostly with the Ace Ops that we weren’t going to catch them at all. 

Luckily Eddy Rivas came in clutch for us FNKI fans this episode. Myfavourite part of CH5 was the fight between FNKI and JNR with Oscar. It wasso good. Seeing their interactions on the battlefield. Hearing Neon roast Nora and having Nora Harry Pottering herself around the battlefield trying to catch her was awesome.

Since when can Nora use the hammer to fly around like a witch on a broomstick!? This is the first time we’ve seen that and I really really love it! Need more hammer Witch Nora!

Watching Jaune fight Flynt and Ren fight Ivory while Oscar fought the giantKobalt and seeing all three of them kick ass. The fact that FNKI lost to JNPRmade me smile because a) it shows how much JNR has indeed improved since FNKI met them during the Vytal Festival, b) it highlights how much Oscar has been improving on his own without Oz and c) it shows how well Oscar works with JNR.

Seriously this scene gave me more hope for Oscar inevitably joining JNR to revive JNPR because that’s something that this squiggle meister has been hoping for since V5. For me, one thing I’ve always wanted for Oscar is for him to gain his own place on the team beyond his role as Ozma’s current descendant in the cycle and Ozpin’s successor. 

Hence why I fell in love with the theory of him joining JNR to revive their huntsmen team. 

While they’ve done well on their own up until this point, admittedly JNRhas been incomplete since Pyrrha’s death. And one thing I’ve always appreciated about the JNR gang is how they always felt like a family. 

I know Team RWBY is our core protagonist team but I’ve always felt more attached to JNPR and I believed them to have the stronger family rapport than RWBY. 

This is why I was hoping Oscar would eventually join them. Become a part of their little family and give Oscar three brothers-in-arms that he can count on both off and on the battlefield.

I felt like Oscar would fit well with JNR. Not just because they were short one member and his last name coincidentally provides that missing “P” from JNR…but mostly because I figured Oscar would complement Jaune, Nora and Ren just much as Pyrrha did once before. Thus making the young farm boy turned little barn prince fit well within JNR. 

I always liked the idea of Oscar making JNR feel whole again and reviving their group through his growing bond and comradery with each member. 

Beyond that, I wanted Oscar to experience what it was like to be a partof huntsmen team since part of the enjoyment of RWBY for me was watching these characters grow close to one another over the seasons. 

Becoming teammates then friends and then to a greater extent—a family. I wanted the same experience for Oscar because right now, he could really use that. 

He could use more friends. He could use a family. People he could happily call his brothers and sisters. His people and I think JNR can provide that him. No, I know JNR can provide him that. JNR are ¾ of who I believed could become Oscar’s Golden Circle of most trusted confidantes (the final member being Ruby, of course) and I’m not giving up on that headcanon. 

I figured that’s what the Writers were going for last season with the whole Argus subplot between Jaune and Oscar. But…well, we all know how that went. Nonetheless, maybe there’s hope for this season. I’d love for the PLOT to revisit Oscar’s departure last season and I’d like to think it could come back up for the sake of his development to come from this season. But as always we, will see how that goes.

SISTER SISTER 

This episode also confirmed what most of us RWBY Theorists has been theorizing for years. Winter is going to be the next candidate for Winter Maiden. 

According to the episode, Ironwood has not only been grooming Winter to become the next Winter Maiden following the passing of the old one but he’s also been grooming the Winter Maiden to choose Winter as her next successor by having Winter be the only person to interact with the old Maiden. 

That’s an interesting take. I mean, my theory has always been thatIronwood wanted to control the succession of the Maidens but I figured he wouldhave done it using Atlas’ experimental aura technology. Not by literallygrooming the old candidate to pick his designated next one. It’s kind a poor way of doing it because as Oz once put it—”Maidens choose themselves”. 

The only time this rule has been broken is when Maidens have been killed and their powers end up going to their assailants as opposed to someone they cared about. This also makes me curious as to what would happened should Ironwood’s plan not work with the Winter Maiden.

I remember Qrow mentioned something about the Maidens back in a previous volume regarding what would happen should a maiden not have someone to choose in mind.

I know Ironwood is trying to make the Granny Winter pick Winter but…what if…this doesn’t happen? 

After all, you can’t just make a person care about someone just because she created a controlled scenario for them to force this type of bond. It doesn’t exactly work that way. While Ironwood might succeed in making Granny Winter care for Winter, I doubt he can make her care about her enough to have the powers pass onto her.

Imagine if…it becomes a case where the Winter Maiden had a daughter or a perhaps a granddaughter or great niece? Perhaps the Winter Maiden never had any children of her own since Maidens are usual chosen young. Perhaps Granny Winter has only known the life of a Maiden and has mostly lived it in isolation. However the only exception was her keeping in contact with the last family member that she had before she became a Maiden. Maybe she had a sister? Or a brother who eventually had a child of their own. A daughter. 

What if…the Winter Maiden has young niece or great niece she never met. And she’s been thinking about that person for some time. Especially now that’s she on her death bed. Perhaps…Granny Winter has one dying wish that she confided in Winter? That she wanted to be reunited with her niece.

Perhaps…she confided this in Winter and she’s been keeping that little secret from even Ironwood this entire time. 

Overall, this whole plot point with Winter and Granny Winter is really intriguing. And what’s more cool about is that it puts Winter more into perspective. This is the first time the show has really focused on Winter as a person; highlighting how she feels. We’ve seen Winter display a softer side to her otherwise stoic demenour but it’s usual reserved for her closest family such as her sister, Weiss.

This is the first time we’ve seen Winter show genuine care for anyone outside of her family. I wish we had gotten more time to spend with Winter and Granny Winter. It was nice to see how Winter has accepted her fate. It was also good to see just how much Winter values General Ironwood. It wouldn’t surprise me if part of the reason Winter respects the General is because she sees him as a father figure—at least a better one than her own father. I just really enjoyed that moment between Weiss and Winter. It’s very rare we see the Schnee Sisters interact so it was lovely seeing them have their moment this episode.

I know I call the Winter Maiden Granny Winter, but in actuality, her name is Fria. And one thing I’m curious about is whether or Fria will be based on the Norse Goddess of the same name?

Is Fria related to Nora?

This isn’t really a point of the episode but a theory I have based on what I learnt of the Winter Maiden. To me, the name “Fria” reminds me of “Freya”

According to research, Freya, in Norse mythology, is the Goddess of love but she is also associated with sex, lust, beauty, sorcery, fertility, gold, war and death.It is also stated that Freya shares a connection to Thor. Since Nora is RWBY’s equivalent of Thor and since it’s been teased that us fans will be learning more about Nora’s backstory soon, I’m starting to wonder if there will be an unspoken connection to Nora and Fria---the Winter Maiden.

Technically, the Maidens are the closest thing to goddesses in Remnant given their strong potency in magic. So I’m curious if at some point it will be revealed that Nora is a long-lost relative of Fria---probably her only living family member---who was stolen from her as a child by bandits who then trafficked Nora off to Mistral where she ultimately escaped her captives and wound up in Kunoyuri where she met Ren.

Imagine if...it’s a case where...Nora hasn’t seen Fria in years. Nor does she even remember her since Nora was abducted as a child so all the trauma of being kidnapped from her family forced Nora to somehow repress her past. Perhaps V7 will end on a cliffhanger note with Fria revealing to Winter her last dying wish---

To be somehow be reunited with her beloved granddaughter before she parted Remnant and returned to the Gods. And her granddaughter’s name was Nora Valkyrie.

Imagine if...V7 ends on Nora just learning that she is the granddaughter of the Winter Maiden who desperately wants to see her before she goes. But Nora becomes torn up about it since hearing about Fria causes all the repressed memories of her past to suddenly resurface after so long and for the first time since she first met Ren, Nora becomes a emotionally vulnerable and scared girl again--- unable to cope with this startling revelation and this time, it will Ren’s turn to support Nora on the qualms of her past along with Jaune (and possibly Oscar to since he is connected to the Maidens being the successor to the man who created them). I’m not sure if this will be the case in the serious. 

However I am definitely down for this theory becoming canon if possible.

Nora becoming the Winter Maiden would surprisingly fit given the fact that her fairytale counterpart is an mythological god. Nora will literally become Thor if she rises to Maiden status and thunder is her element of choice.

Just picture Nora like Thor in Thor: Ragnarok. Her crystal blue-green eyes aglow with electricity surging around her body. And Nora using thunder as her element of choice as a Maiden even though she’s supposedly the Winter Maiden still fits since, technically---Cinder is the Fall Maiden and her element of choice is Fire.

Raven is the Spring Maiden and her element of choice was surprisingly Ice of all things. So Nora as the Winter Maiden using thunder. That would be purely badass!

The only gripe that I have with this theory is that Nora rising to Maiden status would put a greater death flag target on her back than her red hair. Theorists are already saying that Nora might be killed by Tyrian since in mythology, Thor was killed by a scorpion. 

I personally don’t want Nora to die at all! I like and care too much about Nora as character. Raven is a Maiden and she lived. So if Nora becomes a Maiden, I expect her to live too. I’d actually be livid if Nora ends up dying especially since she’s been with us since V1. Pyrhha’s death was one thing but Nora’s...I’ll be really pissed if she gets killed off. ESPECIALLY in the event of JNPR being revived through Oscar.

So yeah, while I really want Nora to become the Winter Maiden, I don’t want her to die either. But regardless, for now I’m going to stick a pin in this theory and keep it on the table of possibilities.

Robynn Death Flags + Ace Frames

And that’s pretty much it. That’s all I have to say on CH5, Mizu. As an honourary mention, I did like seeing Robyn Hill. She was cool and I’m intrigued by her and her Happy Huntresses. I’m especially curious about her possible connection to Clover because they seemed to have history. Definitely giving me Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham vibes. But beyond that, there wasn’t much for me to say on the part with Robyn. However I am looking forward to seeing her and her huntresses in action soon.

The title of the next episode---CH6 is titled “Night Out” and our heroes are expected to be attending the Watch party for the election campaign between Jacques and Robyn. 

I have a hunch that CH6 is going to be another “calm before the storm” type of episode just like CH4. 

I have a feeling that Tyrian is going to probably show up during the rally targeting Robyn to kill her. 

Since Tyrian is working with Watts and since Watts was shown eyeballing the Ace Ops in the opening, my theory is that Watts is going to have Tyrian either kill off Robyn or at least target her and make it look as if Clover of the Ace Ops was responsible for the hit on Robyn at the rally.

Thus making the public of Mantle believe that the Ace Ops were the ones behind all the murders of the spokespeople in Mantle like Forest. #FRWBY

I think it’s going to start with Clover first since he’s the leader of the Aces and we’ve seen more of him than his teammates. 

I have a feeling that Watts plan is to use either Clover and/or the Ace Ops as martyrs to further tarnish the General’s public image through a huge scandal with Robyn. 

I think Robyn is either going to die or be believed to have been killed with Clover blamed for her death. 

An Ace Op---one of the General’s personal attack dogs--- accused of killing the key representative for Mantle to keep her from gaining a seat on the governing council---hence keeping Mantle out of Atlas? That’s a good scandal. One that could destroy James even further. 

I still stand by my theory that Jacques plan is to usurp James and through Watts’ aid, I think there’s a huge possibility.

Unless Jacques is nothing but a perfect pawn to Watts for him to pin everything on in the end just to cover his tracks and cause an even worse scandal for Atlas with Mantle.

I dunno. These are all just theories but I’m gonna stick with them for now. In the meantime, I hope this answers your Mizu.

𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐋 & 𝐀𝐑𝐓.

HER ART BACKGROUND:

Rachel’s love of art began at a very early age. Her grandmother (on her mother’s side) would babysit her while her mother was out. Her grandmother was a huge fan of crochet and needle-work herself, and it got Rachel excited about crafts and art. She would watch ART ATTACK, and follow along. And then came the fateful day where her grandmother took her to the MET for the first time. It became a sort of birthday/valentine’s day tradition for Rachel to go there every year. 

She began primarily by sketching only, before transferring onto traditional painting, and immediately fell in love. Rachel completed her first easel painting at the age of eight, and it took five days to complete. It was a painting of her grandmother, and for an eight year old, Rachel’s understanding of color theory was advanced for her age. For the most part, Rachel is self-taught, and everything she has learned has been from art textbooks and her own experience. 

A LOOK THROUGH RACHEL’S PORTFOLIO: 

When Rachel’s grandmother passed away, a large sum of inheritance was passed down to her, accessible when she turned eighteen. So, despite her father’s wishes for her to study something sturdier than art ( this amounted into big arguments often that were never quite resolved but were usually put on hold ), Rachel was able to apply and eventually become accepted into Pratt Institute in NYC, into their BFA in Fine Arts program. ( sidenote: her dad doesn’t know this, but Rachel also considers, and may eventually plan to pursue an undergraduate degree in business eventually. She decides to enroll again in the dual-degree BFA/MA in Arts and Design Education so that she is able to teach at the age of 23. She graduates, a second time, therefore, at the age of 26. ) 

As a result, the portfolio she puts together for her application has these requirements: 

Your visual portfolio should consist of 12-20 (including observational drawings (see below) pieces of your best and most recent work. It should consist of a variety of media and approaches. It can include assignment-based projects, self-directed work and sketchbook work, which often give us information on the applicant’s creative process.  The portfolio does not need to be major-specific and can include any type of work including paintings, drawings, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, etc.  Please do not include work that copies photographs, uses the grid system or directly replicates any other artist's work (including replicating anime drawings, cartoons, or video game character designs).  

In addition to the above, students must submit three to five drawings from observation (part of the 12-20 pieces). Examples of observational work include landscape, still-life, self-portrait, figure drawings, and interior spaces. Please do not submit drawings from imagination or copied from photographs for the observational work. This is fine, however, for pieces other than observational work.

Below are some examples of what you can find in her portfolio. She wanted to include a mix of her favorite pieces. Aside from the observational pieces that are required (4 paintings and 1 charcoal figure drawing), she includes two ceramic pieces, multiple paintings, and three charcoal drawings, as well as a time-lapse video of her painting the landscape below at Camp Halfblood.) 

A LOOK THROUGH RACHEL’S SKETCHBOOK:

Unlike her Portfolio, Rachel’s sketchbook is purely self-indulgent. She has an incredible number of them. I’ve mentioned this before but Rachel can be kind of a big spender when it comes to art supplies, so she buys tons of sketchbooks and watercolors, etc. and then is excited by the possibility of filling them all up: and to her credit, she does. She always has two sketchbooks on her: one for watercolors with a 300gsm page density, and the other one with finer paper, and consequently thicker. She will sometimes use gouache or a little bit of watercolor on that sketchbook, but its primarily for ink, charcoal, etc. 

Rachel’s favorite things to paint/draw are real life: real life people and scenes. She’s in love with nature, and is never ever sick of painting sunsets. In her mind, there is no such thing as an identical sunset. She has multiple pages dedicated to the Long Island sound alone, capturing sunsets, multiple dawns and twilights under the stars. She’ll do character studies of her friends if they allow her too, and quick sketches of random people both at camp and back at the city. During her school year at Clarion she will mostly do figure studies and paint/draw from her dreams, but those larger drawings and paintings will usually be in her really large sketchbook which she would keep at home. 

The first photo below shows examples of Rachel’s sketchbook. Sometimes she’ll use washi tape for clean edges and sometimes she’ll enjoy the more free-form look of an open-world study. When it comes to drawing materials, she really enjoys the graphic look gouache can give a piece, while she really also loves using Posca markers for that same aesthetic. She really lets herself experiment with materials, though she is also aware of what works for her and what doesn’t. 

And below here I have some examples of the kind of sketches and drawings Rachel has drawn (with less finesse in her younger years) of the sort of Celtic creatures she’d see in her younger years, which have reappeared in her dreams as she got older, and which meets face to face in her fourth arc. None of these are exactly in her art style: while the drawings of the satyr-like woman and horse are an example of Rachel’s talent, she would perhaps add swatches of watercolor to certain areas herself. 

ANALYSIS OF SKILLS & ART STYLE: 

01. CHARCOAL : When it comes to charcoal drawings, as you can see in Rachel’s portfolio, Rachel likes to use charcoal in a unique way. She doesn’t like hyper-realistic charcoal studies, but rather, she likes the messy quality of the charcoal. It provides her a way to perfectly describe what it feels like to be taken over by the Oracle. When drawing people in charcoal, her gestures and strokes are dream-like and unrestricted. Rachel loves the hazy feeling of charcoal, and instead of attempting to control its messiness, she takes pleasure in it.  02. PAINT : Rachel’s favorite medium and form of art expression ( tied with performance art ). Rachel deeply enjoys working with all kinds of paint supplies, though her favorites are oil paints for easel paintings and water colors for paper paintings. She uses acrylics for her larger easel paintings, such as the ones she did of Luke, which were on four foot easels because she can easily dump out large quantities of paint at a time when she knows she’ll need it, whereas she’s more careful of preserving her oil paints.  03. SKETCH / FINE LINE WORK : Rachel’s preferred form of sketch and fine line work is using Microns and Copic markers. She likes using chicken-scratch like lines and stippling, mixing and melding textures to create unique designs, though she also likes to indulge and use some more traditional methods of shading and blending to create more “polished” drawings.  04. GRAPHIC DESIGN : Rachel’s first experience with Graphic Design is in college, and she’s not horrible at it, but it’s certainly not her favorite. On a sidenote, she does most of her work in person, traditionally, but is not opposed to occasionally using Procreate to create more “polished” pieces, if she’s working on commission.  05. CERAMICS & SCULPTURE : Rachel’s least favorite art form to create herself. She feels clumsy when creating sculpture art, though she’s certainly not terrible at it. Pottery is her least favorite, as she tends to go more towards abstract concepts herself.  06. PERFORMANCE ART : One of Rachel’s favorite art forms. Rachel is inspired by performance art pieces such as Emma Sulkcowicz’s Mattress Performance (Carry The Weight), which are pieces that make statements about social justice issues while provoking thought in an artistic setting or manner. Rachel’s topics usually focus on the preservation of the planet and on the downfall of Capitalism. For a lot of her performance pieces as an adult, Rachel goes under the alias FRECKS, as she doesn’t want her personal life to undermine the message of her pieces. However, once her identity is discovered in her mid-20s, by a reporter attempting to undermine her anti-capitalism message by claiming she is part of the 1%, Rachel steps up and takes responsibility for her message and writes a piece herself that asserts her message is stronger only by the fact that she has seen the damage “the 1%” is capable of. 

INSPIRATIONS: 

Street art and Grafitti, being a huge part of the NYC landscape have always inspired Rachel. She used to want to pursue it one day, but the gentrification of the urban boroughs and her own white privilege have made it clear that she cannot profit of making graffiti “high art” if she were ever to include it in her work, as she understands the art world and how that narrative would be framed. Instead, as a young adult, and when in her 20s, she makes sure to use her privilege for good, though she is sometimes still a little upset at the implication that her art is only valuable or important, etc. etc. because she is white. This is a natural feeling to have, but is still something she struggles with.

Bob Ross is also a major inspiration, as cliche as that may be. Rachel, suffering from both human and Oracle anxiety, watches him as a form of ASMR, and occasionally will follow along. Bob’s soothing tone and life philosophy had a huge hand in feeding Rachel’s love of the natural world and over-all art style. 

MISC HEADCANONS:

Rachel has designed all her tattoos. So far, that’s two. One, a huge paint-like piece of the strawberry fields at camp over dawn. The other is a sketch-like Selkie (a woman who is able to transform into a seal) on her right thigh.

She also uses her graphic design knowledge to take some sketches she’s done of her friends and make stickers occasionally as gifts to them. Her water bottle, computer, etc. are typically covered in these stickers, as well as the occasional paint swatch or small nature study. 

The longest Rachel has spent on a painting is a week. It was a self-portrait, and part of a larger project, a series of self-portraits, with each layer on the same easel being a different phase of her life. She was originally never happy with the first layer, before deciding to turn it into a larger project. She also took photos of every layer. Currently, its of her at the age of twenty-six. The thickness of the paint due to the many layers is easily felt.

Cooking with Tsuneko (Custom MC) Headcanons

Notes: This was a Ko-fi request by @otomemonogatari , she specifically wanted Tsuneko and Mamoru cooking together, but for the sake of headcanon format and ‘cause I thought it’d be fun, I decided to do them all. If you don’t know Tsuneko is my mc in my series Black Market Wonderland. She is my baby and I adore her. And if you’re not reading that series and like her character here, why not give it a chance…..?

Also, I’m still getting a feel for writing Luke and Shuichi, they aren’t in the fic at this point and I haven’t written much for them. So, if it sucks I apologize. Also, no Hikaru cause I haven’t played him yet and I have no how he’d interact with Tsuneko at this point. So. 

Eisuke and Tsuneko can surprisingly work pretty well together, when they want to, they just usually do not want to. They’re both similar in a lot of ways, not that either of them would ever admit this fact. They’re both perfectionist and efficient workers, there will be a lot of snide comments along the way though. Tsuneko and Eisuke cooking together would start with her giving him shit. 

“Can you even cook? I mean, you’ve probably had chefs your whole life, so I doubt you can.” 

“There’s nothing I can’t do.”

“You can’t pet cats or eat peas, but go off my dude.” 

He’s scowling as he makes his way over to the kitchen where Tsuneko is, she’s grinning that it worked. Eisuke washes his hands and ties a white apron over his expensive designer clothes. She’s snickering at how stupid it looks, she’d try to hide it, but she doesn’t care if she hurts his feelings. 

“I’ll sift the cake flour, you get the parchment paper and pan ready; trace the pan on the parchment paper, cut it out then grease the paper and pan.” 

“Because you can’t draw or cut straight.” 

“Draw on the fucking paper.” 

Once she’s sifted through the cake flour enough, she looks over to see Eisuke has finished greasing the pan with shortening, glaring at what sticks to his fingers, like it’s personally offended him. 

“It’s not gonna apologize to you.” 

His glare switches to her and he wipes his hand off on the apron. It continues to go well, both taking tasks and easily able to follow directions, though neither misses a chance to make a snide comment. 

By the end of it the two perfectionists have crafted a downright beautiful looking strawberry sponge cake. They then proceed to destroy it fighting over the strawberry on top. This is why we can’t have nice things.

“Why don’t you just learn to make your own omelets?” 

The look of concern on Soryu’s face makes Tsuneko laugh. She just figures it’s a practical skill, everyone should know how to cook for themselves and rolled omelets aren’t that hard. Soryu isn’t a stupid guy, so, what’s the worst that can happen?

He looks beyond awkward and clumsy as he ties on an apron. Tsuneko is trying her best not to snicker; he’s a complete fish out of water. 

“First, we just need to crack some eggs, very simple,” she says as she cracks one of the eggs into the bowl then gestures at the rest of them. 

Soryu reluctantly grabs an egg; he cracks it and promptly drops about half the shell into the bowl. She stifles a laugh as he awkwardly apologizes and picks out the shell. His cheeks are tinted red and a part of her feels bad, but not enough to stop her from insisting he cracks another. 

He tries to crack it against the counter before dropping the egg into the bowl, maybe he thinks it’ll help. Instead, the egg falls onto the counter instead. She bursts into laughter and his face turns about three shades darker of red.  She takes care of cracking the rest then adding in the mirin, soy sauce, and salt. 

“Okay,” she brushes oil over the pan and pours about a third of the eggs in, “now just let that cook about a minute then we’ll roll it, ‘kay?” 

Soryu takes over the pan while Tsuneko goes to get the spatula; her back is turned for a second before she hear Soryu yell. The kitchen is suddenly hotter. 

She turns around to see flames shooting up from the pan, Soryu’s hand thrown up in defeat as he backs away. Tsuneko grabs a pan lid and covers it, smothering the fire. 

“What the actual fuck happened?!” 

“I don’t know.” 

“My back was turned for less than a second.” 

“This always happens or it explodes.”

“Explodes?!”

Soryu awkwardly scratches the back of his head, cheeks red and avoiding eye contact. 

“You know what, how about you just go read,” she offers, taking off the lid to look at the burnt egg remains. 

He nods in understanding before making a beeline out of the kitchen.

Cooking with Baba, did you mean an hour of him flirting with her and then there’s food at the end? 

They’re both good cooks, Baba more so than Tsuneko. In true gentleman fashion, he keeps offering to do some of the more manual stuff for Tsuneko which while sweet can also be irksome.  

“Want me to dice those tomatoes for you, pretty lady?” 

“Don’t annoy me when I have a knife.” 

It’s also worth noting that Baba tends to just know how to cook, he doesn’t need to recheck or look over recipes. This does nothing but stress Tsuneko out as she is someone who triple checks what to do next before she does it. 

“Now to add in the peppers and shallots.” 

“Wait, let me double check, we might need to do,” Baba is already adding them in as she checks the recipe, “and that’s exactly the next step, how do you do that?” 

“Have I managed to impress you?” 

“If I say yes, will you stop winking at me, you fucking weirdo.”

Eventually, the dish comes out virtually perfect and mouth wateringly good. 

“Made with love.” 

“Don’t make me puke.”

Ota was not invited into the kitchen, he just showed up, to the absolute dismay of Tsuneko. Being the grade A little shit that Ota is, he just continuously gets in the way and annoys her.  It’s a constant battle of her batting his hands away from throwing random things into the batter. 

“No, the cookies do not need tomatoes.” 

“Don’t be boring, Koro.” 

“Mustard is not a part of the recipe!” 

“It might be good, you don’t know.” 

“I most certainly do know.” 

“I swear to fuck, if you put one pickle in there I’m smothering you!” 

It’s a constant struggle of smacking away his gremlin hands and making sure he’s not ruining something. The process of making cookies takes about an hour longer than necessary thanks to Ota’s shenanigans. 

Then comes time to decorate them, Tsuneko is suddenly out of her league. 

“What is that?” 

“Depends….what does it look like?” 

“That’s not how that works, Koro.” 

“It’s…supposed to be a bunny…”

“Pfffft, it looks like a sick plant.”

“Shut up, what did you make, art boy?” 

“Look, I drew you.” 

The frosting decoration on the cookie is a floppy eared dog and she promptly smacks it out of his hand.

“Are you gonna help?”  She asks as Mamoru is loitering around the kitchen and grazing, instead of making himself useful. 

“Wasn’t planning on it,” he grumbles as he starts to pop something in his mouth, she smacks his chest, not that it stops him.

“Either help or leave.” 

“Ugh, I’ll try not to get in the way.” 

She rolls her eyes, not quite sure why he isn’t just leaving. He expects her to cook him food, but won’t leave so she can do so in peace, maybe he just likes being an irritant. 

“Wash your hands and you’ll need an apron.” 

“Why do I need an apron?” He grumbles, half-assedly washing his hands. 

“Actually wash them, don’t just run water over them, you gross fuck.” 

She squirts soap over his hands and then goes to find an apron. There’s a couple aprons tucked away in her kitchen, there’s a few that are plain and more that are cutesy.  She decides on a pink ruffly My Melody apron, he wants to be an irritant; she’ll be one right back. 

“There, my hands are- what is that?” 

“An apron.” She tries to keep her tone even, but the way his eyes widen at the apron cracks her up.

“I’m not wearing that.” 

“Seriously, it’s just an apron, so you don’t stain your clothes.” 

“I don’t care that much about these clothes.” 

“That’s like, your one suit that doesn’t have stains, wear the apron.’ 

“Why does it have to be that one?” He glares at it like the pink ruffles have personally hurt him. 

“It’s the only other apron I have.”

“Why can I wear that one?” He points at the apron she’s wearing, dark blue with just a simple black cat, Jiji, peeking out of the pocket. 

“I’m wearing it.” 

“This is ridiculous, I don’t even wanna cook-”

“Too late, put on the apron.” 

He groans and rubs a hand over his face. 

“C’mon, I’m literally the only person who’ll see it; your masculinity can’t be that fragile.” 

Another groan and he yanks the apron from her hands, tying it on. She presses a hand to her mouth and sputters out a laugh; the feminine apron looks so goofy against his gray rumpled suit. 

“Shut up, brat.” 

“Okay, now would you strain the noodles for me,” she finally manages to get focused after a few more giggles at his expense. 

“Fine,” Mamoru grabs the pot by the handles and carries it to the sink with the strainer to pour, “FUCK!”

The pot clatters and topples over, splashing boiling water over Mamoru. 

“Shit, quick!” She grabs turns on the faucet and runs cold water, getting Mamoru’s hands under it. 

“How did you even manage to drop that?” she chastises as Mamoru groans in pain as the water cools his red skin. 

“I don’t know, just happened, fuck.” 

“Come on, the food can wait.” 

Tsuneko gets a cold compress, burn ointment, and bandaids before leading him to the couch. She gently rubs the ointment over his burned skin, earning winces and whines from him. Once that’s done, she carefully places some pink bandaids with My Melody on them over his blisters. 

“They match your apron,” she teases. 

“Haha, hilarious,” he grumbles as she puts the cold compress on his hand. 

“I had no idea you were so accident prone, maybe we should keep you out of the kitchen.” 

“Sounds like a plan.”

Rhion would be so excited to help Tsuneko in the kitchen, but his eagerness doesn’t translate to being skilled at cooking. Thankfully, while a disaster on his own, he follows Tsuneko’s directions well enough to avoid absolute catastrophe.  Though, Tsuneko babies him a bit, not letting him take over the more dangerous or important things. 

“Add in a cup of flour.”

“Got it!” 

“A pinch of nutmeg.” 

“Done!” 

“I’ll take care of the mincing and the oven.” 

He nods in understanding, humming along to the radio as they cook. Occasionally, when there’s a wait time he spins and twirls to the music. He’ll pull at Tsuneko’s hand and try to convince her to dance along. 

“No way, not happening.” 

“Coooooome on Alice,” he says with a pout. 

“Even your puppy dog eyes can’t make me dance, sweetie.” 

He whines when she pinches at his cheek, before continuing his antics. She watches and laughs each time he nearly falls over.

Tsuneko groans, a pain going through her hand. She’s trying to chop up chicken and vegetables to cook. 

“What’s wrong Sexy Bones?” 

“Holy fuck,” Tsuneko practically jumps out of her skin and turns to see Luke suddenly looming over her shoulder, “we need to put a bell on you or something.” 

“Are you hurt?” 

“Oh, I fell and hurt my hand earlier, so it’s hard to cut everything up.” 

“You should relax it.” 

“Yeah, well, I’m trying to cook.” 

Luke steps towards the counter, blocking Tsuneko from moving back towards it. He produces a scalpel from his pocket then uses it to quickly and efficiently cut everything up. It can’t take him more than a minute or two. 

“Is that all you needed cut, Sexy Bones?” 

“Uhhh, yeah, thanks.” 

The eccentric doctor wanders off, properly to read some medical text book and Tsuneko is left confused but thankful.

Shuichi has a tendency to micro-manage and Tsuneko has a tendency to hate that. While they both do well following instructions or recipe to absolute perfection, Shuichi tends to be more prone to breathing down someone’s neck.

about

things seemed like a picture perfect image for the girl when she was young. she helped her family with chores, worked hard in elementary and middle school classes, etc. however, by the time high school rolled around, her relationship with her parents weren’t exactly the same. she realized her dream of becoming a fashion designer, which they didn’t approve on due to how they wanted their daughter to work in the medical field.

at first, she agreed on dropping the dream and went on with doing well in her classes. except, she never gave up on her dream. when she finally graduated high school, she moved out of her parents’ place with saved up money and hardly talked to them since then. she felt guilty for not being who they wanted her to be, but being away felt better than trying to be someone she didn’t picture herself as.

soon, her parents decided to move away too and the relationship between her and them became more estranged. now, she’s in the process of improving her designs while working as a sales associate.

one would think she’s the happiest girl alive with her parents. they would spend a lot of time together, watch layla during her ballet recitals, and eat dinner at the dining table every night. things were immediately different the moment her dad passed away when she was nine years old. since then, her mom began ignoring her because of how much the girl reminded her of her husband. layla learned to take care of herself soon enough.

things were spiraling down from there. once she was in middle school, she started rebelling and causing trouble. she destroyed properties, stole from stores, etc. when she became a high schooler, she started failing classes and took summer school, partied almost every night, drank a lot, and almost got expelled. the only reason she didn’t was because her advisers and teachers gave her a second chance to improve. she ended up taking it. by her junior year, her behavior was improving gradually and worked harder at bringing up her gpa. the reason why she took the second chance was because of her dream to be a best-selling author and to go to college. which she was accepted into.

nonetheless, she may not be a writer at the moment, that doesn’t mean she plans to forget her dream. she just wants to use up more time to improve on her writing. she’s talked to multiple publishers and is just continuing to grow for now.

a girl who was born in las vegas, nv. she had wonderful parents that divorced when she was fourteen. however, she didn’t mind it at all. she was happy as long as they were. plus, she wanted a bigger family, so if they were going to remarry to other people, she was oddly okay with it too. mainly because of how she always wanted a bigger family since she’s an only child. eventually, that was what happened. five years ago, her dad remarried and soon, frankie had a step-mom and step-sibling. at first, she cared about them due to how much family already meant to the girl, but as months became years, she soon grew suspicious over the relationship between her step-mom and dad.

since she was a baby, she was already adopted by mr. and mrs. grayson, a well-known old money family. past generations owned a huge company for properties and built malls across the country. which didn’t seem like such a big deal to the girl growing up. all she cared about was belonging somewhere and being with a family. she was even happier to have grown up with siblings. even her biological parents hardly came to mind because she was happy where she was. however, the older she became, the more chaotic her family seemed. there would be scandals written in articles about her family, secrets being revealed, and it felt dramatic fights happened almost every week. nonetheless, it didn’t matter to the girl. she was extremely loyal to her parents and siblings. she swore she’d do anything for them.

*Mandatory Disclaimer about my headcanons VS the material as it stands, yada yada yada, the paucity of sources on pre-Christian festivals yada yada yada NOW ONTO THE FUN STUFF* 

Bres and Sreng

Funny thing, I was actually TOYING with writing something Halloweeny for these two, so you can get an outline. 

Bres and Sreng are focused purely in Munster, which has mixed emotions for Bres because….Carn úi Neit. Being killed by your arch rival via some bad milk REALLY leaves an impression. But, after a couple centuries living there with Sreng, his main association with it is them. Like, Munster = Sreng and Sreng = Safe Person. And, it’s far enough away from Lugh and a decent number of the other Tuatha dé that he’s perfectly happy as a hermit. 

Samhain is…a DIFFICULT time for Bres, because it’s the anniversary of when he lost the Second Battle of Magh Tuireadh. And it comes shortly after the anniversary of Ruadan’s death. (And I will die on the hill of Bres still DEEPLY feeling that one centuries down the line. Like, there is no getting over that, it’s just getting on.) So, Sreng does his best to distract him, because he knows it might be the only thing he CAN do. Keep Bres distracted by going from place to place, like flashing shiny objects in front of a cat, and by the time he realizes, it might be already past them. 

And, luckily enough, there are a few areas really close by that happen to have some cool stuff going on. Being immortals, they aren’t nearly as affected by the housing crunch as…certain…mortal inhabitants read: Broke American grad students might have, so they keep a place in both Cork City and Limerick for when they stay there. (It’s easier to have anonymity in a big city, and that suits Bres perfectly fine.) 

In the week before Halloween, Sreng takes Bres all around Cork and Kinsale for the Jazz Festival. He’s not overly fond of it himself, thinking that it sounds like a bunch of noise, but Bres likes it, and he likes seeing Bres happy, so they stay out as late as they can to watch the last of the shows, walking back to their place in the very, very late hours and collapsing on their bed in a mass of limbs. At least one of the children, either Indusa or Dui, will usually come as well, taking the opportunity for some family time. (They don’t really say why, and neither Bres or Sreng asks; it’s one of those things that they all get.) They also watch the Dragon of Shandon parade, because MOTHERFUCKING DRAGON. Sreng does NOT talk about the year Bres dressed them up as Louis and Lestat. Also, even though Bres is...Bres when it comes to adults, when it comes to kids? He’s very generous with the candy. (Cue the Dagda being like “I’M BASICALLY A CHILD.” “YOU’RE OVER THREE THOUSAND YEARS, AND AT LEAST 20 YEARS MY SENIOR” “THAT’S CLOSE ENOUGH.”) Sometimes, they’ll also catch a showing of the Rocky Horror Picture show, though Bres isn’t as fond of it as he was when it first came out, since he has an...odd relationship with it, not being particularly binary himself. But, hey, he also gets to lob toilet paper at a big screen, so he’s in heaven. 

The Dagda

The Dagda LOVES modern Halloween, considering it an excuse to have as much alcohol, food, and candy as he could possibly want. And kids LOVE the old “Kill people with the magic staff, then bring them back again” trick. (Parents less so.) Yeah, he might be a little fuzzy on a few of the nuances here and there, yeah, some of the party stories that he tells are slightly NSFW, but it’s the ENTHUSIASM that counts. 

If he’s not partying it up in Newgrange with Aengus (he’s still a little bitter that the little shit STOLE it from him), he’s usually in and around Derry, which is considered to be one of the premiere Halloween hot spots in the world, with a four day festival. And yes, every year, he does SOMETHING to get noticed. 

As part of Bres and the Dagda’s fragile truce (AKA “We have to at least TRY to get along because we’re brothers whether we like it or not, also we both hate Lugh’s guts”), he keeps trying to get Bres to visit with him, considering his refusal to be one more sign of his brother’s lack of fun. (Ruadan isn’t something he even really…puts into the equation, or if he does, he equates it more to Bríg’s loss than something Bres ALSO had to experience.) 

Ogma 

Bram Stoker festival, in Dublin. You know he would. He specializes in telling scary stories to the kids. I wish I could say more, but Bram Stoker festival. Ogma. It’s inevitable. 

Lugh 

On one hand, Lugh HATES modern Halloween. HATES it. He’s not particularly fond of mortals who aren’t immediately connected to him to begin with, and then there’s THIS. It’s gone from a time when strange things happened to mortals who dared to go too close to them, when there was some level of respect for what they were capable of, to...this. 

So, he and Cairpre kick back and do dramatic readings of poorly researched internet articles on Samhain. He does not admit that he has a fun time. Absolutely not. (He does though.) He also has the most immaculately decorated house in...well, if not the WORLD, then in Ireland, both Northern and Southern. Like, it’s not one of those cases where he just bought up everything in the nearest Halloween shop and dropped it in his yard, oh NO, EVERYTHING is specifically designed to be in a particular place. Most of them don’t even come from a STORE, since Lugh considers it beneath his dignity to get something that the masses could buy as easily as him. So many visitors are shocked to see magnificent decorations that they’ve never seen anywhere else, as if they were handmade. (He’s not called “Master of all skills” for nothing, even if he can’t do....any type of manual work.)

The Morrigan 

She volunteers in The Nightmare Realm scarehouse in Dublin. She personally feels like it’s slightly weaksauce compared to REAL blood and gore, but she supposes it works. She’s more interested in seeing OTHER people screaming their heads off, anyway, even if it’s only with fake blood, and visitors to the already terrifying attraction will say, unanimously, that when she’s around, there’s something that makes the entire process that little bit scarier. Eriu thinks this might be the healthiest her sister’s been, as far as only having that affect on people who PAID for it as opposed to randoms in a war.

Bríg

Bríg is much more ascetic, these days, having been thoroughly at ease with the conversion. As such, she observes the traditional vigil for the saints, attends mass, visits the graveyard in St. Brigid’s tries not to think too much of Ruadan and the others near her whose graves have been lost to time, and spends the day in quiet meditation. Sometimes, one of the children who hasn’t gone to be with their father will visit he, or else Áine, her sister, will, and they’ll share a few glasses of wine between them. She’s never alone, that’s for sure, and she’s very generous to any children who come over.

This is the fact that REAL LGBT people watch this show; real NON-WHITE people watch this show; real WOMEN watch this show, and WOMEN are the literal lead characters of this show. But those parts of the audience wind up disappointed with the lack of care, consideration, or prioritization in this weak-ass writing, where only the art and animation salvage it.

Then why are some of the most prominent fans of the community LGBT, Non-white and/or women? I mean, surely if this was handled so poorly they wouldn’t be so prominent. Unless of course, the issue isn’t with the show but a certain group of people with a similar thought process (that being “If it doesn’t pander to me, it’s bigotry!.’)

Diversity isn’t a fucking myth like you think just because you have less social aptitude than a fucking rock, or because you refuse to interact with anyone that isn’t the same as you.

Says the woman who rejects other LGBT/non white people for not thinking exactly like her.

Monty was GENTLY asked in a post-show interview if there’d be LGBT+ rep in RWBY, and he confirmed yes. That was 2014.

And he also fucked over his own show numerous times. He wasn’t exactly a good writer so him saying that would have probably resulted in a ham fisted, out of place moment of gay angst that would never be mentioned ever again.

What Miles Luna, Kerry Shawcross, and Gray Haddock have done, instead of giving us a named PROTAGONIST character to be the first instance of that rep, they made the first openly gay character a VILLAIN. (no, Matte Sky does not count bc the VOICE ACTOR named them, not the creators)

You mean the single sympathetic villain who would later get a redemption arc among the other straight villians who are portrayed as irredeemable and monstrous *cough* ADAM *cough*.

Oh no, how terrible. You get a complex and well written character instead of the edgelord. 

Nothing is groundbreaking about that trash. LGBT+ historians and fandoms have noted that in the media, villains were portrayed as gay, trans, or implied as such for YEARS. (it’s called “queercoding”)

And that’s called ‘bullshit’ because coding is only ever brought up in subjective ways.

Not only that: You were never promised something GROUND BREAKING. Show me where it was said that. 

Monty was GENTLY asked by fans at a convention when more brown characters would be in RWBY. He confirmed that Sun and Velvet have “cool” dark-skinned teammates. That was 2013. (after an animation panel at Supanova)

So no, this isn’t just “rabid tumblrinas” hounding the creators for the sake of being special snowflakes like you fucking think. These are real fucking people who love the soul of this show but don’t actually SEE THEMSELVES IN IT. And Monty, rest his soul, was so excited and earnest in wanting to be inclusive so this show could be shared and loved by more people.

Yeah and Miles and Kerry get death threats over this. That was proven in 2018. I could not care less.

And here’s the deal: If you cannot relate to a character because they do not share the same skin color as you, you do not DESERVE a character to relate to. Because creators are suppose to make compelling characters and skin color is NOT COMPELLING. Expecting me to find a character compelling because they are white is honestly INSULTING to me.

But the fact is that it’s not as inclusive as it could be. Even when he was alive, he made missteps too. And it’s not even like it’d be a big deal to fix. But hateful people go out of their way EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. to make it seem like it’d be such a lorebreaking addition to make a character brown, gay, or trans.

The fact that ‘it’s not as inclusive as it could have be’ is a flaw shows you do not actually care about the show. Because you care SO LITTLE about the show actually being good you try to prioritize something COMPLETELY DIVORCED from quality above all else.

And no one wanted them to just do it because it was not the right fucking time or place. Imagine a character in Berserk went off on a tangent about how gay they are. That’d be pretty cringy right? Now think of that same thing in MHA. Not even bad now is it? Because one is not built to support this and the other CAN support it.

Honestly, the way they handled Illa, from a purely writing standpoint, is the best way they could have gone about it. It’s used to emphasize her pain with Blake and quickly takes a backburner for Illa’s more personal and universal issues. They showed it was athing before moving onto more pressing matters.

It makes absolutely ZERO SENSE how a FANTASY REALM can be lacking so much variety in terms of its inhabitants. And Diversity is an AFTERTHOUGHT. Or a “lorebreaker” (remember the homophobic “how would you show gay characters? just have them make out during the chaos? That’d make no sense!” argument? Fun times!!!)

Damn near every single piece of fanart about Illa emphasizes her being gay, apparently that was an informed guess on their part. And honestly ticks me off since Illa is so much more than that.

How many times do we have to sift through the garbage comments on fanart (FAN ART!!!) of Blake being portrayed as black, as if that’s some huge leap from what she could have represented in the first place?

Representation doesn't matter here, it's the fact that these designs usually look like shit because the people making don’t care about good character design and use dark skin on a design that is built around light skin. It’s like if someone made a light skinned Emerald-it would look fucking awful.

How many times do ppl turn a blind eye to femslash fanart of team RWBY but suddenly complain when someone mentions the notion of one of the characters in team RWBY actually being canonically gay? Or bi? Or pan? Anything outside or in-between?

Never. I have literally never seen that happened. I’ve seen people be called homophobic for shipping straight ships before I say this.

Hateful people are like “u should be thankful” when they’re having a buffet of representation and we only get, not just breadcrumbs, but moldy ones that the ants are crawling on. Then, when we make our own stuff to satisfy us (again: FAN ART! FANFIC! HEADCANONS!!!) they’re suddenly so defensive and wanna police our shit???

A. Nobody has ever just eaten certain foods because of their color,

B. You actively REFUSE to accept any character that isn’t EXACTLY like you and proceed to try to hurt REAL PEOPLE over this. Mold crumbs with ants on them is more than you deserve, honestly STRAVATION is more than you deserve.

C. Making fanart and fanfics that are fundamentally WORSE than canon and calling it ‘fixed’ or ‘improved’ like these people always do is insulting. You are actively pissing people off.

Oh and D. I have seen people ATTACK OTHERS over them not following their headcanons.

RWBY’s first dark-skinned character was a villain. That’s not representation, that reinforces racist beliefs that black people are thugs and thieves that can’t be trusted and need to be put down.

Yes, a dark skinned character with understandable motives, symapethic beliefs and conflcits about her actions.

Meanwhile, the white guy Adam is portrayed as an edgelord monster who seeks genocide and talks like a Nazi.

RWBY’s first openly GAY character is a villain. That’s NOT representation. That reinforces homophobic beliefs that lesbians are predatory temptresses that seduce your daughters and sisters to lead them down a path of hellfire and brimstone.

Yes, the sympathetic lesbian who has shown more love and care and respect for Blake than her straight abusive boyfriend.

Adam pretty much exists to DISPROVE your shit on this front. All the bullshit you complain about in Illa ACTUALLY EXISTS in Adam except WORSE.

RWBY has been making transphobic jokes since volume 1 (Penny’s “*gasp* Is she a man?” reference to Blake) Those jokes reinforce the transphobic belief that trans people wear disguises to bait unassuming people so that they can harm them eventually.

A. Name me a single trans person who said that, let alone enough people for me to even consider that.

And B. Adam is cisgendered and a genocidial Nazi. Good luck beating that.

It’s not rocket science. Rooster Teeth’s animated show, “RWBY” has a problem not just with it’s writing, but with diversity. Pure and simple. And this show has had since 2014 to improve. But you’re still surprised that some of us are fucking mad.

And yet every single example you gave not only doesn’t work but would set a standard for STRAIGHT WHITE PEOPLE to complain about their representation. 

You and everyone in RWDE are mad because you WANT to be mad. It justifies the immoral bullshit you pull on a daily basis...

OUAT 3X03 - Quite a Common Fairy

Well, I’m FAIRY certain we’re in for a good time today, and I hope you’ll agree!

(That pun works in two ways. I’m proud.)

Press Release

In their continuing quest to find Peter Pan’s hideout and save Henry, Hook suggests tracking down Tinker Bell in the hope that she will lead them straight to his camp. Pan reveals to Henry why he has brought him to Neverland and in the Enchanted Forest, Neal has a plan that could transport him to Emma, but it would involve using one of Robin Hood’s most precious possessions. Meanwhile, in the Fairy Tale Land that was, Tinker Bell offers to help Regina improve her life.

General Thoughts - Characters/Stories/Themes and Their Effectiveness

Past

So I like how Regina’s air has really changed in the opening of the flashback. The flashback before this, from what I gather, is “The Doctor” and you can see how the murder she committed there has affected her after the fact. It’s clearly darkened her, as depicted by the way Lana plays it (Her voice and posture, specifically), but what I like is how that affected her. She doesn’t want to be evil and takes a step back to see what she wants.

”He’s dead and I suffered. What you sent me towards wasn’t going to change that.” This line is fantastic because Regina’s right in a way. Meeting something new won’t change the hurt she’s already felt and is likely still feeling over Daniel’s death. That said, it’s appropriately framed as something she absolutely needed to do for her own sake. While the past can’t be changed, there can be a good future if you allow for it to come to pass.

“I no longer believe in you.” I still hold onto my headcanon about Blue not necessarily being evil, BUT by being such a bureaucrat, she sort of became a villain in her own right. Tink, Nova, Dreamy, and countless others all have their hearts in the right place and Blue just can’t (Or won’t) bend the rules to help them. While not completely devoid of redeemability, I can’t fault anyone for hating her. Her character is incredibly annoying, not at all a paragon or even an inspiration of goodness. She’s a Rubix Cube and finding out what circumstances will allow her to give one magic and advice is a puzzle (And not even a fun one). She’s also not especially engaging on other levels, making her importance in the series something of a dead weight.

Neverland

You really see how dark Neverland has turned Tinker Bell. From the costume design to her more flight-or-fight mannerisms portrayed in Rose’s performance, Tink’s character in Neverland is almost unrecognizable here to what we see in the flashback. It’s incredibly effective in showing the consequences of Regina’s decision. I love her wild eyes.

What an amazing episode for Regina! Her characterization here was simply fantastic. The episode doesn’t playing around with the fact that Regina...well, she’s not the greatest person in the world just yet. She eggs Tinker Bell on and makes snippy comments. But her choices are improving and that happens in a natural way. Her test to Tinker Bell is harsh, but Regina does it in a way only Regina would do. The way she challenges Tink’s potential to do bad is effective in showing how she still believes in her, making the tepid resolution they settle on work.

Enchanted Forest

“So because I know what it’s like to lose family, I should risk mine?” This sentiment honestly holds true in this segment so strongly. I get Neal’s frustration, but he is risking a four year old’s safety. The good thing is that it’s framed to give exactly the feelings that it solicits and Neal’s speeches do help a lot with the balance of sympathy. While I didn’t like Neal basically guilting Robin into using Roland to summon the shadow, it does make sense as a desperate move needed for him as a father. I do wish for that reason though that the speeches were more about Henry specifically. It would make the main conflict more of a relation to a father and his son, strengthening his bond with Robin. That said, the discussion of romance was nice and it did give way to Mulan’s storyline.

Insights - Stream of Consciousness

-David, get over your fucking machismo! You literally JUST got poisoned because of it!

-Fuck! A moving map! Pan is dastardly as all hell!

-Who doesn’t like apples?” “It’s a family thing.” Oh come on, Henry! I’m sure they’d be the APPLE of your eye if you just APPLE-y yourself and eat one! XD

-I like how Neal demonstrates the cleverness that helped him survive in Neverland and eventually escape through his deductions with Mulan. It’s a very logical process.

-ROLAND!!! BABY ROLAND! FIRST APPEARANCE! BEST EPISODE EVER!!! AWWWWW!

-Seriously, the casting department found the single most adorable kid in the world to be Roland!

-Neal...are you sure this is a good idea? He’s a baby, Neal.

-Not gonna lie, I’d try roast swan.

-”I’m the queen, but I’m practically a prisoner with a husband whose heart is still with his dead wife, and his insipid daughter.” Regina’s dynamic with Leopold, while undeniably abusive to her, fascinates me. This line makes me wonder if she has tried falling for Leopold and to a degree, succeeded. She’s bothered by Leopold still only holding feelings for his dead wife and being stuck in that position and I’m not sure if the next scene either strengthens this mindset or diminishes it.

-Rumple analogy of the diner and the feast is very interesting to me. It plays the darkness off as something predatory, more of a hunter than something to be sought. It makes sense because Rumple kind of did get stolen by the darkness in that he was unprepared to have to take it on and the consequences of that choice.

-I really appreciate that at least one of the fairies is actively acting as a suicide hotline!

-”But, if I had, here’s to good reasons.” That’s...really fucking dark!

-”It is possible to find love again.” I love this sentiment. Once can never rule out the possibility of new love! <3

-*Henry attempts to shoot Pan in the fucking chest* What a badass!!!

-*Goes to the fairies’ den* Show, you cannot throw that many colors at me AND spin! Talk about sensory overload!

-”My name isn’t green. It’s Tinker Bell.” So fairies have names. What’s Blue’s?

-Blue! Who died and put you in control of the fairies?! Because they were kind of an idiot!

-”Are you out of your mind? He’s four years old!” My sentiments exactly, Robin!

-”What did you do to her?” That line was delivered flawlessly! It’s so chill and it cracks me the fuck up.

-”Operation Henry.” Awwwwww!!!!!

-”Does anyone really own pixie dust?” “The fairies are quite proprietary about it.” Fairies are dicks. Or really, just Blue.

-”The beginning of your happiness.” I really applaud the carefulness of the show with lines like these. Robin isn’t the sole component of her Regina’s happy ending, but he is still part of it.

-I honestly forgot there was a standoff here between Tink and Regina and was thusly as shocked as the audience probably originally was!

-”A complicated history. That’s quite a diplomatic way of describing it.” Well, she is a queen and a bit more refined!

-How was there never an episode called “The Man with the Lion Tattoo?”

-You can see how well Lana plays Regina’s goodbye to Tinker Bell in the flashback. She starts out scared (As Tinker Bell suspected) and hesitant, but you see her Evil Queen persona come in, pulling off a wicked goodbye to ensure that she leaves.

-Blue, you are just the worst.

- “It’s too late for me.” ”Only if you kill me.” I wouldn’t even say that’s the point of no return. Half the people who came to Neverland have killed tons.

-Part of why I love season 3 is I love seeing groups strategize and work together and the payoff that comes with it. It’s such a satisfying sensation.

-So I love how Tink was so clearly gamed for tracking down for Regina but had NO idea about her companions! XD

-Felix says “Baelfire” so freakin’ creepily.

-You didn’t just ruin your life. You ruined his.” I actually hate this line. Robin’s life wasn’t ruined. Derailed, perhaps, but he was genuinely in love with Marian and Roland is the most precious child in the world!

Arcs - How Are These Storylines Progressing?

The Mission to Save Henry - This arc is moving so smoothly along! So far, every episode has progressed this in a natural way that still feels like a lot of progress was made and here is no exception. There’s a real momentum to this season and it’s chugging along well. I feel like we’re taking a big step forward and it’s making for quite the nice walk.

Regina’s Redemption - Regina’s redemption this season is progressing also quite smoothly! Here, she’s a mix of herself -- kind of an asshole at times, but focused and genuinely trying to do better. I feel like Regina’s redemption is starting to come into its own here. It makes sense that there was some turbulence in late Season 2, and now, it’s more settled, making the growth more gradual and at the same time, quick.

Emma Accepting Her Parents - We only get a brief bit of this while exploring Tink’s pad, but it’s incredibly effective to help further bridge the gap between Emma and Snow. Lack, whether it be family or material possessions, is such a big component of Emma’s pre-Storybrooke life and to see how Snow dealt with that in the past was a clever move!

Favorite Dynamic

Emma and Regina. “So what did you do to her?” First and foremost, this line just cracks me in the casual way it’s brought up. Emma’s casual shrug and drinking-buddy tone is honestly funny. But continuing on, Emma and Regina share an amazing scene together. Both ladies have this genuine moment of kindness, all the while completely staying in character. It’s not overly friendly, but it’s friendly enough and focused enough to be believable and powerful at the same time. It also says so much about Regina. Regina’s throwing herself in danger and risking never seeing her son again and so quickly defaults to Emma taking care of him and saving him. It’s really meaningful!

Writer

Jane Espenson is up for her first episode of Season 3, and she does an incredible job here. The writing is smooth. Any episode that has three plots across three different realms has the challenge of balancing and weighing screen time and Jane makes the whole episode feel as smooth as peanut butter. It’s also smooth in the respect that this episode requires the characters to make bold choices and take hard chances (Ex. Regina letting Tink take her, Robin letting Neal use Roland to summon the shadow) and she makes the dialogue work for her so that these decisions don’t feel too harsh on the audience. That’s an admirable trait.

Rating

10/10. This was a really enjoyable episode. Tinker Bell’s introduction and Regina’s character development is great! It’s enjoyable seeing more of the characters working together and getting closer to finding Henry. I used the word “smooth” a lot in this review, and that’s because it’s honestly true. This whole episode feels smooth, from its development to its storytelling, it feels like driving on a freshly paved road, and given the broad strokes of what happened here that wasn’t an easy thing to do.

Flip My Ship - The Home of All Things “Shippy Goodness”

Captain Swan - Regina’s definitely getting those CS feels!!! And why wouldn’t she when there’s a COCONUT sharing between these two?!

Outlaw Queen - It’s interesting that the music playing in the background as Regina sees Robin’s tattoo is something akin to the wedding march. A lot of the same notes are hit, though it’s not a 1:1.

Swan Fire - Neal’s regret in his speech is really heartwarming! He wants so badly to get back together and make things right.

Sleeping Warrior - *Starts crying from the unrequited feels like a baby who just had their candy stolen*

Swan Queen - As said before, I really like Emma and Regina’s scene together! There’s a growing sense of trust between them now and it adds a heartwarming undertone to the scene to the melancholy overtone of Regina splitting off from the group.

Do you think Jay and Evie are possible

Anything is possible WHEN YOUBELIEVE!

I’m sorry, it’s late and I need to be going to sleep soon. Anyway:

Speaking from a purely meta perspective, there is no ship that isnot allowed. You don’t need to have any existing chemistry withinthe show, you don’t need to have any “proof” that they couldwork out, and you definitely do not need to prove this to otherpeople with evidence, powerpoints, and independent peer reviews fromother shippers who do not have any potentially biased views, and/orconflicts of interest with you.

Shipping is not scientific research, it's a fun past time. Andthis is coming from a shipper that has, for reasons of having fun, shipped aLatina scientist with several other female characters across thelines of show, age, timeline, and even species, because they wantedto have a lot of fun making one particular character suffer.

(Honey Lemon with Elsa, Unikitty, Athena, Fluttershy, and GoGo, from Big Hero 6, Frozen, The LEGO Movie, Borderlands, and My Little Pony, for my fic “It’s Not Her Fault She Makes Girls Realize They’re Lesbians.)

From an in universe perspective: yes, it is also possible, and actually my first choice for Evie’s relationship choice if she and Doug don’t work out. (The latter of which is most likely, but I already gave my reasons way back when.)

If you, like me, ignore the book series for the most part, I headcanon that given the inherently small population and lack of choice on the Isle, most every VK has dated each other, or has dated someone else’s current beau and can offer them advice. With Evie in particular, though she was constantly setting her sights at whoever had the most physical goods and luxury (relative to the Isle) she could help herself to, she frequently cheated on them or had a very casual relationship with Jay whenever she wanted someone exciting, manly, and with very agile fingers.

I mean those both literally and as a sexual euphemism: Jay is a master of stealing alcohol, semi-decent food, and candles for romantic dinners, along with what follows if he can eat like a regular human being for about half-an-hour.

Post-Isle of the Lost and the vastly expanded opportunities in Auradon both for dating and just improving their lot in life, I imagine that the two of them will spend a lot of time being happily single, figuring out who they are and what they want in life independent of the influence of other people trying to shape them with their whims and desires, and just generally maturing.

For the purposes of this ship, I’d say Evie will find herself in the fashion world as an “Avante Garde” designer known for her incredibly striking, controversial, and many times risque pieces; or as a scientist for any field--it doesn’t really matter which, the point of it being that she works in a constant high stress environment where money, time, timing, public opinion, and sweet talking is constantly a concern, and she’s likely to butt heads with people who are very determined, very opinionated, and very, very, very unpleasant if you happen to prove that they’re wrong in an objective manner.

Jay, as always, will probably find himself as either a professional Tourney player or as part of the Royal Guard, now relevant once more as the VK population grows and the crime rate steadily ticks up from absolute zero. Basically, a job that is high octane, high stakes, with lots of physical activity, and it’s a question of “when” you are going to get injured on the job not “if.”

The two of them I’d imagine dating within their professional circles (it’s where most people meet their partners and dates, after all) in between rising up in their respective career ladders, but as they begin to carve out their niches, get their private offices, and the managers frothing at the mouth trying to get him to sign onto their teams or the high ranking titles, they start to realize something:

They REALLY don’t want ALL of their lives to just be their jobs, and the ways that their colleagues relax aren’t doing it for them. Evie finds the going out to bars, restaurants, and visiting art galleries just carries more of the schmoozing, gossiping, subtle backstabbing, and politeness that her regular job entails; and as Jay grows older, more mature, and starts to think about his life at large, he starts to realize that it’s NOT so fun to blow off steam by partying, drinking, and having one night stand after one night stand.

Things come to a head in a Romantic Comedy coincidence: someone just happens to make the wrong snide comment at Evie on the Day When Nothing Went Right, and in the process of trying to save a rival athlete/fellow partygoer from his own morning hangover stupidity, Jay gets hit by a car.

Evie has a very public blow-up that has her temporarily excommunicated from the high fashion community/the research facilities and laboratories for fear of scandal/”disruptive and toxic attitude affecting morale”, Jay comes out of the incident with just a mild limp, but is hospitalized and will be confined for the next couple of weeks by order of his boss/manager.

It just so happens that the Rotten Four and most of their AK friends are coming to Jay’s hospital room because they’re worried for him, but because they’re all also high-profile professionals at this point/King of the entire country/freelancers who need more commissions to keep paying for their really nice studio apartment, Evie is the only person left sitting next to him.

“Don’t you have important work that’s ‘going to revolutionize Auradon’ or something?” Jay asks.

“Normally, I would! But, since I just had a major meltdown in front of pretty much everyone who pays me to do it: no, no I don’t,” Evie replies as she’s sunk into the easy chair nearby.

Jay nods sympathetically. “Bad day?”

Evie cringes. “More like a whole string of bad days, bad nights, and bad things all piling up till a REALLY Bad Day lit the fuse.”

“Jesus--E, when was the last time you cut loose and let yourself relax?”

Evie sighs wistfully. “Too long ago. Definitely not last night like you did, though. I really hope that party was worth it.”

Jay cringes. “It wasn’t.”

Evie looks at him in surprise. “You? Not enjoying yourself at a party? How?”

Jay shrugs. “When I started being the combination chaperone/designated driver, I guess.”

The two of them pause.

“EVILNESS, I HATE my job SO MUCH right now!” Evie gripes. “And it’s fucked up, because I LOVE my work, but I have all these people I respect and admire professionally, but then they open their mouths and I have to resist the urge to tell them to just shut the fuck up...!”

“Oh man, I’m like that with the new guys all the time--all these fresh grads who think that just because they’re half my age they’re automatically better than me!”

“You’re not alone. I swear, there’s this one intern who is eying me like a hawk; I can see her imagining herself behind my desk, it’s creepy and annoying!”

“Kinda reminds me of Kingsley--might want to slow down on the ‘friendly suggestions’ there, bud.”

“Hah, at least he’s polite about it,” Evie spits.

The two of them spend another few moments in silence, feeling even worse than before.

“What happened to us, Jay?” Evie whispers quietly. “What the fuck happened to us?”

“We grew up. Life happened.”

“But it shouldn’t THIS bad! I shouldn’t be getting up in the morning excited to go to work then having second thoughts when I remember who I’ll be saying hi to on the way to my desk--”

“Get out,” Jay mumbles.

Evie stops. “Excuse me...?”

“We need to get out of here. This hospital, this city--”

“We need a vacation, stat.” Evie finishes.

Jay hums. “Damn right.” He gets up off his bed.

Evie sits up in her chair. “Woah, Jay, you sure you should be getting up?”

“I’m fine,” Jay says. “Everyone’s being keeping me in the hospital longer and longer since I turned 25, something about ‘being sure’ or some other paranoid bullcrap.”

“And they’re just going to let you walk out like this?”

“Hell no!” Jay replies as he walks over to his regular clothes in the corner. “Which is why I’m breaking out,” he says casually, grinning as he takes off the papergown.

Evie has seen worse several times over, so she’s unfazed. “And how are you going to do that? You didn’t break anything, sure, but you’re still not 100%.”

“Evie, Evie, Evie,” Jay says as he puts his pants back on, “What haven’t I been able to do if I had the perfect accomplice with me?”

Evie stands up from the chair, smiling and feeling genuinely excited for the first time in months. “Just tell me what I have to do...”

So the two of them engineer a hospital break, take off in Evie’s car, and go on a crosscountry roadtrip with the intent of enjoying a full 3 days at the bordertowns in Faraway, raising hell, rediscovering what’s important in their lives, running and hiding away from their bosses who now coincidentally, desperately need them back on the job, and spending a LOT of time learning about all the many ways they’ve changed for the better, and reacquainting themselves with Jay’s very agile fingers...

... Again, literally and as a sexual euphemism.
